I'm not positive that this is a bug (the man page for grep does warn about
character ranges in locales other than C) but it produces very surprising
results in grep.
Presumably this is realated to bugs #506784 and
(the default); offset should be zero or positive
* 1 -- current stream position; offset may be negative
* 2 -- end of stream; offset is usually negative
Return the new absolute position.

I expected the Augeas lens for sysctl.conf to ignore files not named *.conf in
/etc/sysctl.d.
Marking everything in README.sysctl in /etc/sysctl.d as comments with '#'
works around the problem.
