This bug is still present in Etch, so perhaps it should get tag etch rather
than being closed altogether. Ideally, it should be fixed in stable, as well,
but if that is too much to ask, then at least this bug report should be kept
open during etch's lifetime, since it contains the workaround.

I played with this a bit more and I found how exactly to reproduce this bug.
If you start wxmaxima when there is a _default_ .wxMaxima present in your
home directory, you won't be able to run maxima from wxmaxima any more.
If .wxMaxima sits (for example) empty in your home dir, everything
