As mentioned in the Ubuntu report [1], there appears to be a one-line fix [2] (cherry-picked from upstream work and distinct from that attached by Michael Shuler). The
Ubuntu bug is unfortunately marked as medium importance, even though the vpnc package for Oneiric appears to be unconditionally

Justification: screws up routing, thus makes package unusable.
Note that things seem a bit more complex, as the iproute command grew
*more* unrecognised output options, see email from David Woodhouse
including git patch at

Since the previous report did not contain any details, I'll use this for the
connection issue I just encountered and found a fix for. I'm not really sure
if this is the identical problem Pedro found, but perhaps.. :-)
