seems my previously mail arrives later.. i tested the package in debian with debian sid installation (to make more confortable to bugs re1uest) when i donload the JUG mod (quake 2 juggernaut) and try to load as u'r suggested way simon, fail to load now either using quake2 or directly the binary

Package: yamagi-quake2 Version: 5.30~dfsg1-1 Severity: grave debian oficial yquake set base directory to binary installed engine at /usr/lib/yamagi-quake2/ but last 5.30 release already set that as changelog describes.. so i think this cause a problem, with debian package 5.21 or my own build of
