vnStat 1.12 isn't aware of the link speed of your interface. The configuration file /etc/vnstat.conf has the "MaxBandwidth" keyword that defines a failsafe value for the link speed of all interfaces. The default value in the 1.12-2.1 package is 100 (Mbit) which is far too high for a usual ppp
