Thanks for getting back to me again Carsten.  Well, all I know is that no extra steps with the terminal are needed with the similar language package of libreoffice-l10n-en-gb.  It just works.  I'm just letting you know that.

Hello Carsten.  Thanks for your response.  Here is some feedback. Locale: LANG=en_CA.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_CA.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=en_CA:en Your local language ist set to en_CA, not en_GB. Thunderbird is using this locale setting from the system. No, Thunderbird is not using en_
