Bug#294740: /usr/bin/php4: preg_match() throws pcre_fullinfo() errors

After upgrading php4 packages today, I'm left with a setup that refuses
to run preg_match() in PHP scripts. The resulting error message is
Warning: preg_match: internal pcre_fullinfo() error -3 in [file]
 on line [line].

I cannot reproduce this with a trivial invocation of preg_match() from
php4-cli 4.3.10-3. Please provide a sample script that can be used to
reproduce this problem.

Bug#291945: eleventh-hour transition for mysql-using packages related to apache

No, we should simply not be linking libmysqlclient against OpenSSL. The
exemption was needed because there exists software that uses both
libmysqlclient and libssl, but making libmysqlclient itself use libssl just
because we now have the exemption will cause licensing problems for
applications which currently do *not* depend on libssl.

That's clear, I meant simply that if program A links libB which links libC
which links libssl, than both A, libB and libC should add the exception,
isn't it? That's independently from having A using libssl functions
directly or not.

Hi, there was some issue with my email server, i'm replying again.

 Any news on xfce4-goodies adoption?

Yes

It's been a while since you said you are going to work on these
 packages.
If the problem is lack of sponsor then I'm willing to upload
 packages for
 you.

We are currently working on them with the Debian xfce team[0], and it

probably
we'll need it, if you are interested I invite you to join the group.

Only rebooting my IBM laptop solves this problem as far as I can see.

You can find the boot messages of kernel 2.6.8-686 and 2.6.9-686 here:

  http://www.morbitzer.de/tmp/boot-2.6.8-686.txt

As I said, suspending and resuming my laptop with 2.6.8-686 works fine.

 Hi,

 Thanks for the bug report.

I took a quick look and unfortunately there seem to
be quite a lot of changes to atkb.c between 2.6.8 and 2.6.9.
It is a bit hard to tell which change might have caused this
 problem.

The only thing I found that may help is
 http://ozlabs.org/pipermail/linuxppc64-dev/2004-March/001315.html
but it seems like a long-shot at best.

I have CCed the maintainer + linux-input mailing list in
 the hope of some help.

Does this still happen with 2.6.10 or 2.6.11-rc3? If yes, please use
i8042.debug=1 on the kernel command line to get a trace of the
communication with the keyboard in the kernel messages.

Bug#294898: After installing with Sarge-Netinst-RC2(i386) all i get is GRUB GRUB GR GRUB

2005-02-12 Thread Anonymous

Package: grub
Version: all

After installing with Sarge-Netinst-RC2(i386) all i get upon first reboot is
GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB (ad infinitum)

I tried with the linux and linux26 kernels too. Same.

Slackware 10.1 successfully installs.
So the error might be in:
a) The Debian installer's partitioner
b) The fact that it DOES NOT REBOOT AFTER MODIFYING THE PARTITION TABLE, THUS
NOT LETTING LINUX REREAD IT!

I wonder if ANYONE can install Debian :(
Please read the manpage and fdisk and make the installer reboot after modifying
the partition table (and before formatting the new partitions, etc). THIS IS
REALLY IMPORTANT.

:\ Thanks...

Bug#294899: Grip crashes reproducibly when retrieving freedb.org data for specific CDs

2005-02-12 Thread Andreas Neudecker
Package: grip
Version: 3.2.0-3
Severity: normal

Hi.

With specific CDs grip will crash every time when trying to retrieve
a CD info from freedb.org. I found closed bug #280744 which describes
this for automatic retrieval being switched on. Now I find that this
is irrelevant. The error I get is like the one reported there:

Xlib: unexpected async reply (sequence 0x132d)!
Speicherzugriffsfehler

The second line translates as memory access error. In this case the GNOME
bug report tool did not start up, grip simply disappeared. Usually bugbuddy
would start up.

I have UTF-8 set as encoding for freedb data. One CD I have this problem with
is
Lenny Kravitz (2000) Greatest Hits. Virgin Records America Inc.

Kind regards

Andreas

Bug#294134: hylafax-server: email notification of completed fax fails

2005-02-12 Thread Giuseppe Sacco
Hi,
here some answers to your questions:

1. The setup.cache used to include references to /usr/local. This is the
suggested behaviour from upstream, but I recently managed to map
everything to debian dependencies, so you shouldn't need them.
The only new /usr/local path is related to DPSRIP that isn't used in
Linux, since it is an IRIX PS converter.

2. The font path is finally correct. Hylafax now uses enscript to
convert ascii files to ps. So the only path you really need is the
enscript font directory.

3. Every time you restart hylafax, it will copy changed configuration
files from /etc/hylafax to /var/spool/hylafax/etc. So the latter should
be up to date.

4. All warnings you get while running faxsetup are referring to some
feature that you aren't using like having a getty on the same line you
use for faxing.

Back to the original problem, I really cannot find any peculiar
configuration in your system, but I cannot reproduce the error.
So, here are my questions:

A. could you please try the next package version I will upload?
http://eppesuigoccas.homedns.org/~giuseppe/hylafax-server_4.2.1-2_i386.deb
http://eppesuigoccas.homedns.org/~giuseppe/hylafax-client_4.2.1-2_i386.deb

B. could you please use a high servertracing value in you config file
and send me the relevant part of the syslog?

C. Could you please also send the control file created by hylafax
in /var/spool/hylafax/doneq?

Thanks,
Giuseppe

Bug#294900: gtk-gnutella: Deleting corrupted files instead of saving them

2005-02-12 Thread Benoit T.
Package: gtk-gnutella
Version: 0.95.0-0
Severity: wishlist

Sometimes, it is necessary to download a file dozens of times before
having it not corrupted. This takes many storage space.

I'd like these corrupted files being deleted instead of saved in a
special directory.

It's not possible to choose /dev/null as this directory yet.

Bug#269952: dcgui-qt: Strange window, can't change settings

2005-02-12 Thread Jesse van den Kieboom
Package: dcgui-qt
Version: 0.3.2-2
Followup-For: Bug #269952

Since I ran an update yesterday I get really strange behaviour and
dcgui-qt is unusable. When I start dcgui-qt the splash screen background
is filled with little ghosts. The window thereafter is very very small
and must be stretched to do something. No settings are displayed or can
be saved and nothing really works.

When I remove my ~/.dc directory dcgui-qt just starts as it should, but
as soon as I change some settings, close dcgui-qt and start it shows
again the same behaviour as stated above...

Bug#294517: wmaker treats multiple instances of same application as one

2005-02-12 Thread Nyerlothep (TMC)
Marcello,

'rm -rf $home/GNUstep' solved the issue.

I also dicovered that I also had a directory called '~' in my $home.
Only contents of that was GNUstep directory.

Close or stall the bug, and I will hunt through the settings to find
the one that breaks things. Tha will hapen as soon as I set up a test
box. Will let you know as soon as I have a result. Will ref this bug
number.

I just hope its not one of those gremlin type never to be repeated bugs.

and openoffice now works too, the icon shows up...

Using your config I can reproduce the described problem.

Using the default config (rm -rf ~/GNUstep; start wmaker) I can't, so

The OpenOffice bug is there, yes. It's something about OpenOffice (I
think it's doing something not actually allowed by the standard)

You could back up your ~/GNUstep/Defaults, remove it, start window
maker again and try to work out what's the problematic setting. I'll
do this as soon as I get a change, but it's rather time-consuming.

I think the problem is not with tao_idl (libtao-dev) but with gperf-ace.
This version of gperf does not seem to come from the ACE distribution
since that one does honor the -V option.
Hello Anders,
you're right, the problem is with gperf-ace. In package version
5.4.2.1.0-2, gperf-ace is a dangling symlink instead of a real
executable. If you happen to have installed gperf, then gperf-ace points
to it, therefore gperf -V fails.
Thank you for investigating this, and thanks to Peter for reporting.
I'm working on a fix.

Bug#294740: Bug against wrong package

2005-02-12 Thread Samuel Mimram
Hello,
It *might* be the case that the bug #294740 was mistakenly reported
against php4-cli instead of libapache2-mod-php4. The author namely seems
to speak about apache2.

On my box, this script works perfectly (with the cli):
#!/usr/bin/php4
?php
preg_match(/([ab]+)/, zabaaccazerazer, $matched);
echo $matched[1].\n;
?
BUT this one does not when ran with php4's apache2 module:
html
head
/head
body
p
?php
preg_match(/([ab]+)/, zabaaccazerazer, $matched);
echo $matched[1].\n;
?
/p
/body
/html
I get the error
Warning: preg_match: internal pcre_fullinfo() error -3 in
/var/www/test.php on line 7

This bug also seems to be the same as #294673.
I hope this helps.
Regards,
Samuel.

I'm planning to upload aspell 0.60 Real Soon Now. Since the binary
format of the dictionaries has changed in 0.60, this dictionary must be
rebuilt. Attached is a patch to properly support aspell 0.60.

Please let me know if you wish to make a maintainer upload with this
patch, and I'll add it to my staging area. Otherwise, I'll NMU this
package when I make the aspell 0.60 upload.

Bug#294903: Missing quotation mark () at end of line 116 in de_CH

2005-02-12 Thread Mathias Payer
Package: locales
Version: 2.3.2.ds1-20

Filename: /usr/share/i18n/locales/de_CH

The problem is, that line 116 of this file is not ended by a quotation mark.
This causes an error when generating the locale!
This problem also exists in the stable branch.

So you habe to change line 116 of this file from:

Bug#294908: Wrong mime-type for xsl-stylesheets in freedesktop.org.xml keeps mozilla-firebird system-wide from working with all xsl-stylesheets

2005-02-12 Thread Mathias Payer
Package: shared-mime-info
Version: 0.15-1

The problem is, that mozilla cannot display any xml-files wich use a
stylesheet. The error mozilla-firebird gives is null.
It lookes like mozilla uses only local mime-type information and discards the
correct information from the web-server.

After you change the mime-type text/x-xslt in
/usr/share/mime/packages/freedesktop.org.xml on line 5338 to
application/xml everything runs absolutly fine!

So it would be fine, if this line was changed, so that mozilla-firebird will
be able to display xml-files with stylesheets :)

You could also think about the mime-type for xsl-fo, if text/x-xslfo is the
correct one (onl ine 5321), but I'm not sure about this one.

When I try to open a tunnel with fshd (or using fsh directly), the
tunnel is immediately closed, because my .zshenv file writes some
information to stderr. This bug prevents me from using fsh.

In fact, when I have

[[ $SHLVL -eq 1 -n $SSH_CONNECTION ]]
  echo 123456789012345 2

in my .zshenv (on the server side), or with more characters in the
echo string, I get a Tunnel closed. message on the client side.
when I have

[[ $SHLVL -eq 1 -n $SSH_CONNECTION ]]
  echo 12345678901234 2

in my .zshenv, or with fewer characters in the echo string, I get a
Connection established message on the client side, and the tunnel
is still open.

Bug#294906: fails to access resource without meaningful errormessage

2005-02-12 Thread Ulrich Eckhardt
Package: kaddressbook
Version: 3.3.1-3

I can't exactly tell since when this happens, but it's been at least a month
in testing.
What I do:
- open kmail
- click tools|address book
(kaddressbook opens)
- click the new contact button
(KAddressbook says: The resource '/home/uli/.kde/share/apps/kabc/std.vcf' is
locked by application ''.)

Note the two single quotes after 'application', obviously the detection who is
locking this file fails.

Further notes:
- This also happens if I run kaddressbook on its own and first killed every
other kde-related program.
- I'm not running the KDE desktop but just a windowmanager.
- This affects editing anything, not just creating new contact entries.
- The same error message pops up when closing kaddressbook, followed by a
second one: Unable to save to resource 'resource-name'. It is locked..
Again, the name of the resource seems to be determined falsely.

thanks

Uli

hello,

according to http://burbon04.gmxhome.de/linux/CDREncryption.html the
patch for cdrtools to burn encrypted cds and dvds has reached release
candidate status, patch version 1.0-rc1 for cdrtools 2.01 has been
released on 5. Feb 2005.

the patch seems to be quite stable, and i see no objections against
patching the debian cdrools (any maybe even dvd+rw-tools) for one more
usefull feature.

Bug#294901: glade-2: [arm] FTBFS: missing X11 library path.

2005-02-12 Thread Loïc Minier
Hi,

Loïc Minier [EMAIL PROTECTED] - Sat, Feb 12, 2005:

glade-2 build failed by missing X11 library path on arm buildd (and
  maybe on other archs).

I couldn't figure out the exact problem, -lX11 should work since
libx11-dev and libx11-6 are installed and enough place seems to be
available on the buildd, I checked:

http://packages.debian.org/cgi-bin/search_contents.pl?searchmode=filelistword=libx11-devversion=unstablearch=arm
 and:

http://packages.debian.org/cgi-bin/search_contents.pl?searchmode=filelistword=libx11-6version=unstablearch=arm

I don't understand why xfree86 4.3.0.dfsg.1-10 would be involved since
it's from december and built other packages fine.

 My /etc/ld.so.conf includes /usr/X11R6/lib correctly...

 Any thoughts? Buildd problem?

Whops, thy's behaviour was changed during the 0.8 releases, to run as
the user who started it, instead of 65534 (the uid of nobody is
different between GNU/Linux distributions, not to mention the BSDs), but
the manual page was not updated.

I'll correct that in the next release.

Thanks for catching this!

Bug#294123: Info received (was Bug#294123: udev: Bad parsing of regular expressions in *.rules)

2005-02-12 Thread Ricardo Galli
Sorry, I didn't see your post, so I'm asnwering a little late. Hope still
helps.

I have the following rule in /etc/udev/rules.d/palm.rules:

  BUS=usb, SYSFS{manufacturer}=Palm. Inc., KERNEL=ttyUSB[024],
  NAME=%k, SYMLINK=pilot

What is that supposed to do? One symlink name for multiple devices?
Every second Palm interface should overwrite this symlink?

Palm creates two devices, but only the first one is usable (at least by
Kpilot). The only one just blocks the sync software.

Another contsraint is that the devices may change over time (depending on
other devices). Sometimes may bye ttyUSB0 and 1, but next time ttyUSB2
and ttyUSB3. So only 0 and even numbers are useful, that was solved with
the rule, it created a symlink to the even numbered ttyUSB.

symlink to /dev/ttyUSB1 instead of /dev/ttyUSB0

 What does:
   udevinfo -q all -p /class/tty/ttyUSB0

 print in the failure case?

udevinfo -q all -p /class/tty/ttyUSB0
P: /class/tty/ttyUSB0
N: ttyUSB0
S: pilot

udevinfo -q all -p /class/tty/ttyUSB1
P: /class/tty/ttyUSB1
N: ttyUSB1
S: pilot

By changing to KERNEL=ttyUSB[135] it creates the right links.

Hmm, we didn't change anything in the matching logic and it worked for a
long time without any known problems. I expect something different as
 the problem.

Can't you match against some interface attributes in sysfs, which are
telling you which one is the first interface of this device?

 You may compare:
   udevinfo -a -p /class/tty/ttyUSB0
   udevinfo -a -p /class/tty/ttyUSB1

if you find a difference between both interfaces to match against, that
is not dependent on the kernel device name.

I did it but found only the device numbers/Ids:

2005-02-12 Thread mschoechlin
Package: imp3
Version: 3.2.6-3
Severity: important

Hi !

Many thanks for maintaining this debian-package.

After upgrading to this version i got the following error-message
on every imp-window.

---
Warning: Division by zero in /usr/share/horde2/login.php on line 94
---

After watching the source i detected that the variable $pref_num_columns
has no value. It seems that the call to the prefs-object in line 84
gives no result.

$prefs-getValue('summary_columns');

After analyzing the values in /etc/horde2/prefs.php i discovered that
also other variables read out from the $prefs-object are not defined
though they are defined in /etc/horde2/prefs.php.
(i.e. $prefs-getValue('summary_refresh_time');)

I suppose that the prefs-object is not correnetly initialized.

Best regards

Marc Schoechlin

Bug#263835: slapd: I'm working on the GnuTLS patch for OpenLDAP 2.2

2005-02-12 Thread Modestas Vainius
2005 m. February 12 d., Saturday 01:53, js rate:
Hi Torsten,

You know that the OpenSSL compat layer has nearly identical issues to
the OpenSSL lib itself? The old patch did not use it because of them.
The only problems I'm aware of are licensing issues. Compat layer is licensed
under GPL, isn't it? Are there any other issues?

Actually, compat layer is quite crappy by itself. I've just taken some ideas
from it.

Nice! But as I said the compat layer will pose a problem. And - I am
working on a patch for current OpenLDAP CVS as well together with
somebody from univention.de. I'd rather use something I can fix instead
of using third party code again and trying to keep it alive later.
What direction are you going? Are you rewriting tls.c and other parts of
OpenLDAP code implementing OpenSSL API or try to simulate OpenSSL behavior
(produce compatibility layer)? I've gone the latter way although some
functions are almost impossible to simulate.

Your help is of course very welcome, I'd like to join forces to get this
 up and running.
No problem. I could help.

I could move my current working tree to svn.debian.org
 or something if needed.
This would be grate.

Regards,
Modestas

Bug#294819: tinc: broadcasts don't work in switch mode

In switch mode Tinc doesn't write received broadcasts to the local TUN/TAP

makes the whole switch mode mostly unusable. I believe the bug affects hub
 mode too.

Both versions 1.0.3-1 and 1.0.3-4 have this bug. The bug is fixed in the SVN
repository, from which I've created a patch that I included here. The patch
 fixes the problems for me.

Well, since I'm both the upstream and downstream maintainer at the
moment, I won't fix the Debian package but will try to create a new
upstream release when I have some time.

Bug#294914: libpango1.0-0: 1.8.0-3 breaks fixed font colors in Sarge

2005-02-12 Thread Gerald Hochegger
Package: libpango1.0-0
Version: 1.8.0-3
Severity: important

Hello,

after a dist-upgrade of my Sarge system on 2005-02-11, the colors of my
eclipse fonts (I'm using Fixed 13) were completely broken.
Instead of the usual black, green, blue colors I've four flavours of
red fonts, what makes the code quite unreadable.

The problem does not affect all fonts (true type fonts are ok) and is
visible in other related packages also. (gvim - when you select an
fixed font) screenshot: http://www.uni-klu.ac.at/~ghoch/gvim.png

After spending some time trying to find the culprit, I upgraded an older
Sarge system gradually and after installing libpango1.0-0 1.8.0-3 and
libpango-common1.0-0 1.8.0.3 I could see the problem.

Downgrading to 1.6.0-3 (thanks snapshot.debian.net) fixes the problem, so I
assume something went wrong with 1.8.0-3

Greetings,
Gerald

Bug#294915: key combination for modify tool

2005-02-12 Thread martin f krafft
Package: dia
Version: 0.94.0-4
Severity: wishlist

It seems like all tools can be selected by keys... except for the
modify tool. If I create a lot of objects, I turn on the keep
tool selected after creation option on. But then I always have to
use the mouse to select the modify tool if I need to move an object
in between.

My suggestion: make Alt-Y select the magnification tool and change
Alt-M to select modify.

I can't seem to reproduce this.

Can you please tell me what function you are trying to plot, and exactly

Are you able to plot the default function of sin(x)?
To test this, start labplot and choose

don't change anything in that dialog, and click ok.
Do you get a plot of sin(x) ?

I can't plot the default function, that was what I tried, I also tried this

2005-02-12 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
Just to make it clear, I would recommend changing the type of the last
argument (string) from 'char *' to 'const char *' too. Please change
this in the debian package, and try to convice upstream to do the
change too.

Bug#263835: slapd: I'm working on the GnuTLS patch for OpenLDAP 2.2

2005-02-12 Thread Torsten Landschoff
Hi Modestas,

On Sat, Feb 12, 2005 at 02:26:10PM +0200, Modestas Vainius wrote:
You know that the OpenSSL compat layer has nearly identical issues to
the OpenSSL lib itself? The old patch did not use it because of them.
The only problems I'm aware of are licensing issues. Compat layer is licensed
under GPL, isn't it? Are there any other issues?

I am not a lawyer. I only remember that debian-legal found out that we
can't link OpenLDAP against OpenSSL and that the GnuTLS compat layer is
also not a solution.

Basically I don't think we need a compat layer anyway as tls.c is all in
OpenLDAP that knows about TLS (not counting that few hacks in other
places) and it does not use much of OpenSSL. Therefore I think the best
idea is to just use GnuTLS directly.

Actually, compat layer is quite crappy by itself. I've just taken some ideas
 from it.

Good.

What direction are you going? Are you rewriting tls.c and other parts of
OpenLDAP code implementing OpenSSL API or try to simulate OpenSSL behavior
(produce compatibility layer)? I've gone the latter way although some
functions are almost impossible to simulate.

I am going the first way. I think simulating OpenSSL via GnuTLS creates
more problems than it solves. Therefore I am accessing GnuTLS directly.

Your help is of course very welcome, I'd like to join forces to get this
  up and running.
 No problem. I could help.

Fine!

I could move my current working tree to svn.debian.org
  or something if needed.
 This would be grate.

Done. It is available at

svn://svn.debian.org/svn/pkg-openldap/projects/ldap-tls/trunk

I can enable write access if you got an alioth account.

Greetings

Torsten

Bug#294931: new upstream version 2.2.9 available

2005-02-12 Thread Max Alekseyev
Package: pari-gp
Version: 2.1.6-3
Severity: normal
There is a new version 2.2.9 availble at the official website
http://pari.math.u-bordeaux.fr/download.html
Although it called Development version, it's the only precompiled version
currently offered to windows users, and so it should be well suitable for
Debian testing/unstable as well.
Current stable version 2.1.6 is quite outdated and misses many features.
Thanks,

 2. Microsoft Windows XP Homé Edition (UTF-8 encoded)

I've committed a patch to os-prober that will make d-i fall back to a

wouldn't dropping the 'any other characters' make more sense?

2005-02-12 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: mimedefang

All debconf templates should have a short description, placed in the same
line than the Description: line.

I attach a new templates file, with some reformulation for making the
template more compliant with the Debconf Templates Style Guide (see
Developer's Reference).

This was found while Christophe Masson ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) was working
on the french translation. If you intend to fix this bug, please do not
upload the package immediately but first run debconf-updatepo in your
package source tree after changing the debian/templates file and then send
the debian/po/templates.pot file to Christophe. He will then need 2-3 days
for working on the French translation and he will send it as a bug report.

Doing so will save an upload round

Feel free to contact me in case you have some questions about this.

Bug#294934: daapd: Unacceptable server startup time at boot (scanning files takes hours)

2005-02-12 Thread Jari Aalto
Package: daapd
Version: 0.2.3d-4
Severity: important

ENVIRONMENT

Host A Host B
- daapd - audio files

   - The connection between A-B is WLAN/11Mbps (effective speed about 2-3Mbps)
and host A accesses B's direcctories via NFS.
   - Total shared files from B is about 2000-3000 (not counted exactly)

PROBLEM

After starting daapd (for the first time), the whole process just hangs.
I assume it is scanning the files and /etc/init.d/daapd is waiting
it to end.

  Starting DAAP music sharing server:
(... and it goes on, on and on)

I killed the process after 2 hours due to lack of indication that the
process would ever end by itself.

Due to this hour(s) long hang up, the daapd is unusable in the
presented environment. I assume it might work with fast 1G ethernet
connections, but that's knot the typical home environment.

SUGGESTION

The daapd code needs restructuring to make it usable in any other
environment than localhost (files at host A). It is not uncommon that
files being too big to fit in server A, the data files are shared
through other hosts (like B in my case).

I haven't looked at the source, but I dare to make some suggestions
for the code flow:

- Do not try to scan all files at startup, but divide the task
  into chunks:

  A. Collect the directories to scan to a LIST. This should be fast.
 (easy recursive task)

  B. Store this LIST to disk as checkpoint X.
= At this point return ok code to the caller, so that
calling program can continue (in this case: /etc/init.d/daapd start
 process)

  C. Start examining the LIST one DIR at a time.
= After processing one DIR, write checkpoint to disk and
 serve files collected so far.

  D. Continue repeating C, as long as there are still entries in LIST.

Letzte is too long and always wrapped around to the next line,
regardless of screen width. It looks to me like 5 characters are
reserved for the option but 6 are needed.

quick and dirty fix: in filter.c:filter_menu() increase len by 3
(estonian values are even longer), e.g.:
len = cCOLS - 33;
instead of
len = cCOLS - 30;

right thing would be some dynamic space calculation depening on the
length of the longest translated value...

That is, rzip fails for most files that it is designed for.

I'm guessing that the problem is the amount of memory you have
available. rzip will copy into memory up to 900MB of the file at a
time (see the man page, section COMPRESSION ALGORITHM); how much RAM
+ swap do you have available?

Comments/Problems:

Booting from the default 2.4 kernel failed to detect the cdrom, whereas the 2.6
kernel had no problems with detection.

Rebooting mostly worked, except all interaction with the system clock seemed to
hang. I.e. during the Setting system clock using hardware clock as reference
or something to that effect, the boot sequence would just sit there, until i
hit ctrl+c at which point it would proceed. The same thing happened during the
second stage installer after I was prompted for whether the system clock was
set to GMT.
Switching to another console, and installing the 2.6.10 kernel image and
rebooting caused the base-installer to work as expected.

Install logs and other status info is available in /var/log/debian-installer/.

Bug#294940: mysql-client-4.1: the option -h localhost doesn't use network connection

2005-02-12 Thread Alberto Ruffato
Package: mysql-client-4.1
Version: 4.1.9-4
Severity: minor

a very little thing:
if no -h hostname option is specified the program uses the local unix
socket
to talk to the server. if -h 127.0.0.1 is given it talks to the server using
the
network. but if -h localhost is given it talks to the server using the socket
instead
of the network. on a local machine this is no problem, but this confuses the
user for
example if he is using a ssh tunnel to connect to a mysql server.
i don't know if mysql-client has the same behaviour.
thanks

Bug#293741: PDF output it ugly, ...

2005-02-12 Thread W. Borgert
Try db2latex-xsl. It uses standard XSL to convert DocBook/XML
into LaTeX, similar to docbook-xsl which converts to HTML, FO,
CHM etc. European languages such as English or Russian work
well, however I did not succeed with Hebrew and did not try
Arabic or Farsi.

See http://cvs.debian.org/ddp/refcard/?cvsroot=debian-doc for
the sources and Makefiles and
http://people.debian.org/~debacle/refcard/#availability for
the result output.

and the strace (sorry, 3.3MB) is at

Bug#146305: Current status of celestia problem?

Hello Mika,
what is the current status of this bug? You said you would forward it
upstream, but the bug status does not indicate so.

The debug-issue is fixed?

I think I was not able to reproduce the locale-problem. (right now my
alpha has serious troubles, hence I cannot check there).

Bug#188448: Suggest to reupload with 32bit archs

2005-02-12 Thread Helge Kreutzmann
Hello,
given that the last email is from 24 Sep 2004 and that abuse-sdl seems
to be fundamentally broken on 64bit archs I suggest removing abuse-sdl
from sarge and re-uploading with only the 32bit archs Debian supports.
Then this bug can be downgraded to important and the 32bit archs will
re-enjoy abuse (well, since I've never been able to play it, I hope ...)

Then, probably post-Sarge, you can find all those 32bit assumptions,
fix them and re-enable the 64bit archs.

The other option would be to uploaded the fixed package ASAP, if you
already did correct the errounous 32bit assumptions ...

What do you think?

Greetings

Bug#275668: Suggest to remove from Sarge

2005-02-12 Thread Helge Kreutzmann
Hello,
given that this package is currently not able to install the non-free ccc
compiler, that gcc is available and improving while ccc is essentially
dead upstream and that the number of people doing serious number crunching
on alpha is (unfortunately) strongly decreasing I suggest removing
this package from sarge. Further the maintainer has not yet even
acknowledged this bug (MIA?).

If you (the maintainer) already have a fix in your pipeline, please
upload it ASAP (and in the meantime, tag this bug pending).

Greetings

Helge

Asterisk exists with Illegal Instriction on VIA CPUs. This is because
I build packages on an i686 system and the makefile sets:

   PROC=$(system uname -m)

The attached patch replaces i686 with i586. It should be applied after
 the makefile patch.

What is the impact of this on the performance of Asterisk on different
 i686 systems?

IMHO we should use i386, as everythng in Debian is compiled for that
target. But I would like to see any permormance test using different
architectures. Not sure how to do it... any ideas? Mark?

If LD_LIBRARY_PATH is set, fakeroot will fail the dh_testroot test (I
guess for similar reasons as why suid executables conflict with that
 variable).

Not for me.

The following commands all work:

a) fakeroot dh_testroot
b) LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib fakeroot dh_testroot
c) LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/nonexistent/directory fakeroot dh_testroot

Could you unset LD_LIBRARY_PATH and try those three?

I suggest that symlinks to directories will be ignored. Better yet,
ignore _all_ symlinks (or special files like devices etc., but I have not
tested such files). On the other hand such a change might not be backward
 compatible.

Well, ignoring symlinks to directories would seem to safe. I wonder
about the utility of running/listing symlinks to other files though.

Hello,
did you have a chance to look at this problem (i.e., entering umlaute
during login disturbes session). Do you need any more info? Or should
I report this elsewhere?

Greetings

Bug#292290: XFS corruption under 2.6.8

2005-02-12 Thread Grant Diffey
I installed a system on XFS deciding to try the new shiny efficient
filesystem now availible in DI.

I started having issues where the system would no longer be able to
exec programms but all running programs would work fine

So I'd reboot peek at the logs which didn't have anything useful. and
go about doing my normal computing stuff until it happened again rinse
repeat until today about a fortnight after I install when XFS decices
it can't repair the filesystem and prints gobs and gobs into my kernel
log.

so. I now have to re-install and then install a new kernel-image. :(

Bug#293207: bogofilter: last two versions caused db errors

2005-02-12 Thread Clint Adams
 Well, normally there is
 http://www.backports.org/debian/dists/woody/bogofilter/binary-i386/
but, it doesn't have any other versions.

Based on past reports, I would say that using any bogofilter debs from
backports.org is a surefire way to introduce corruption.

Bug#293879: debianutils: which should cannonicalize the path

2005-02-12 Thread Clint Adams
Any reason this could be *bad* (and not just 'failing to be good')?
It changes the result of a command, but I hope nobody relies on it
 much.

If, for some reason, I put /usr///bin in my PATH, I would want `which
which' to return '/usr///bin/which'... I think.

Yes, I know. It's IIRC even documented this way and MySQL refuses to change
this behaviour. There's another wontfix bug report regarding this
issue.
But thanks for taking time to report an issue :)

Bug#294655: fakeroot: Warn if LD_LIBRARY_PATH is set

 Not for me.

 The following commands all work:

 a) fakeroot dh_testroot
 b) LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib fakeroot dh_testroot
 c) LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/nonexistent/directory fakeroot dh_testroot

Could you unset LD_LIBRARY_PATH and try those three?
Why unset it? I tried those three commands and they all did nothing
with $?==0.

To reproduce, add this as the second line of debian/rules:
  export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/

I need LD_LIBRARY_PATH set because my source package builds shared
libraries and then links executables against them; I want the
executables to be linked against the copy in the compile-tree, not
against a copy that might be in /usr/lib, and I don't want to
build-conflict with myself.
