Bug#291945: eleventh-hour transition for mysql-using packages related to apache
On Sat, Feb 12, 2005 at 12:39:58AM -0800, Steve Langasek wrote: Nice, so we should check that any linked GPL library directly (obviuolsy) or indirectly (with N=1,2,3... levels of indirection) linked against openssl adds the exception. No, we should simply not be linking libmysqlclient against OpenSSL. The exemption was needed because there exists software that uses both libmysqlclient and libssl, but making libmysqlclient itself use libssl just because we now have the exemption will cause licensing problems for applications which currently do *not* depend on libssl. That's clear, I meant simply that if program A links libB which links libC which links libssl, than both A, libB and libC should add the exception, isn't it? That's independently from having A using libssl functions directly or not. -- Francesco P. Lovergine -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Hi, Thanks for the bug report. I took a quick look and unfortunately there seem to be quite a lot of changes to atkb.c between 2.6.8 and 2.6.9. It is a bit hard to tell which change might have caused this problem. The only thing I found that may help is http://ozlabs.org/pipermail/linuxppc64-dev/2004-March/001315.html but it seems like a long-shot at best. I have CCed the maintainer + linux-input mailing list in the hope of some help. Does this still happen with 2.6.10 or 2.6.11-rc3? Bug#294899: Grip crashes reproducibly when retrieving freedb.org data for specific CDs
Package: grip Version: 3.2.0-3 Severity: normal Hi. With specific CDs grip will crash every time when trying to retrieve a CD info from freedb.org. I found closed bug #280744 which describes this for automatic retrieval being switched on. Now I find that this is irrelevant. The error I get is like the one reported there: Xlib: unexpected async reply (sequence 0x132d)! Speicherzugriffsfehler The second line translates as memory access error. In this case the GNOME bug report tool did not start up, grip simply disappeared. Usually bugbuddy would start up. I have UTF-8 set as encoding for freedb data. Bug#294134: hylafax-server: email notification of completed fax fails
Hi, here some answers to your questions: 1. The setup.cache used to include references to /usr/local. This is the suggested behaviour from upstream, but I recently managed to map everything to debian dependencies, so you shouldn't need them. The only new /usr/local path is related to DPSRIP that isn't used in Linux, since it is an IRIX PS converter. 2. The font path is finally correct. Hylafax now uses enscript to convert ascii files to ps. So the only path you really need is the enscript font directory. 3. Every time you restart hylafax, it will copy changed configuration files from /etc/hylafax to /var/spool/hylafax/etc. So the latter should be up to date. 4. All warnings you get while running faxsetup are referring to some feature that you aren't using like having a getty on the same line you use for faxing. Back to the original problem, I really cannot find any peculiar configuration in your system, but I cannot reproduce the error. So, here are my questions: A. could you please try the next package version I will upload? http://eppesuigoccas.homedns.org/~giuseppe/hylafax-server_4.2.1-2_i386.deb http://eppesuigoccas.homedns.org/~giuseppe/hylafax-client_4.2.1-2_i386.deb B. could you please use a high servertracing value in you config file and send me the relevant part of the syslog? C. Could you please also send the control file created by hylafax in /var/spool/hylafax/doneq? Thanks, Giuseppe -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#294338: gperf-ace: gperf is the villain
Anders Oreback a écrit : Package: gperf-ace Version: 5.4.2.1.0-2 Followup-For: Bug #294338 I think the problem is not with tao_idl (libtao-dev) but with gperf-ace. This version of gperf does not seem to come from the ACE distribution since that one does honor the -V option. Hello Anders, you're right, the problem is with gperf-ace. In package version 5.4.2.1.0-2, gperf-ace is a dangling symlink instead of a real executable. If you happen to have installed gperf, then gperf-ace points to it, therefore gperf -V fails. Hello, It *might* be the case that the bug #294740 was mistakenly reported against php4-cli instead of libapache2-mod-php4. The author namely seems to speak about apache2. Bug#294908: Wrong mime-type for xsl-stylesheets in freedesktop.org.xml keeps mozilla-firebird system-wide from working with all xsl-stylesheets
Package: shared-mime-info Version: 0.15-1 The problem is, that mozilla cannot display any xml-files wich use a stylesheet. The error mozilla-firebird gives is null. It lookes like mozilla uses only local mime-type information and discards the correct information from the web-server. After you change the mime-type text/x-xslt in /usr/share/mime/packages/freedesktop.org.xml on line 5338 to application/xml everything runs absolutly fine! So it would be fine, if this line was changed, so that mozilla-firebird will be able to display xml-files with stylesheets :) You could also think about the mime-type for xsl-fo, if text/x-xslfo is the correct one (onl ine 5321), but I'm not sure about this one. Bug#294906: fails to access resource without meaningful errormessage
Package: kaddressbook Version: 3.3.1-3 I can't exactly tell since when this happens, but it's been at least a month in testing. What I do: - open kmail - click tools|address book (kaddressbook opens) - click the new contact button (KAddressbook says: The resource '/home/uli/.kde/share/apps/kabc/std.vcf' is locked by application ''.) Note the two single quotes after 'application', obviously the detection who is locking this file fails. Further notes: - This also happens if I run kaddressbook on its own and first killed every other kde-related program. - I'm not running the KDE desktop but just a windowmanager. - This affects editing anything, not just creating new contact entries. - The same error message pops up when closing kaddressbook, followed by a second one: Unable to save to resource 'resource-name'. It is locked.. Again, the name of the resource seems to be determined falsely. thanks Uli -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Hi, Loïc Minier [EMAIL PROTECTED] - Sat, Feb 12, 2005: glade-2 build failed by missing X11 library path on arm buildd (and maybe on other archs). I couldn't figure out the exact problem, -lX11 should work since libx11-dev and libx11-6 are installed and enough place seems to be available on the buildd, I checked: http://packages.debian.org/cgi-bin/search_contents.pl?searchmode=filelistword=libx11-devversion=unstablearch=arm and: http://packages.debian.org/cgi-bin/search_contents.pl?searchmode=filelistword=libx11-6version=unstablearch=arm I don't understand why xfree86 4.3.0.dfsg.1-10 would be involved since it's from december and built other packages fine. Bug#294123: Info received (was Bug#294123: udev: Bad parsing of regular expressions in *.rules)
Sorry, I didn't see your post, so I'm asnwering a little late. Hope still helps. I have the following rule in /etc/udev/rules.d/palm.rules: BUS=usb, SYSFS{manufacturer}=Palm. Inc., KERNEL=ttyUSB[024], NAME=%k, SYMLINK=pilot What is that supposed to do? One symlink name for multiple devices? Every second Palm interface should overwrite this symlink? Palm creates two devices, but only the first one is usable (at least by Kpilot). The only one just blocks the sync software. Another contsraint is that the devices may change over time (depending on other devices). Sometimes may bye ttyUSB0 and 1, but next time ttyUSB2 and ttyUSB3. So only 0 and even numbers are useful, that was solved with the rule, it created a symlink to the even numbered ttyUSB. symlink to /dev/ttyUSB1 instead of /dev/ttyUSB0 What does: udevinfo -q all -p /class/tty/ttyUSB0 print in the failure case? udevinfo -q all -p /class/tty/ttyUSB0 P: /class/tty/ttyUSB0 N: ttyUSB0 S: pilot udevinfo -q all -p /class/tty/ttyUSB1 P: /class/tty/ttyUSB1 N: ttyUSB1 S: pilot By changing to KERNEL=ttyUSB[135] it creates the right links. Hmm, we didn't change anything in the matching logic and it worked for a long time without any known problems. I expect something different as the problem. Can't you match against some interface attributes in sysfs, which are telling you which one is the first interface of this device? You may compare: udevinfo -a -p /class/tty/ttyUSB0 udevinfo -a -p /class/tty/ttyUSB1 if you find a difference between both interfaces to match against, that is not dependent on the kernel device name. Bug#263835: slapd: I'm working on the GnuTLS patch for OpenLDAP 2.2
2005 m. February 12 d., Saturday 01:53, js rate: Hi Torsten, You know that the OpenSSL compat layer has nearly identical issues to the OpenSSL lib itself? The old patch did not use it because of them. The only problems I'm aware of are licensing issues. Compat layer is licensed under GPL, isn't it? Are there any other issues? Actually, compat layer is quite crappy by itself. I've just taken some ideas from it. Nice! But as I said the compat layer will pose a problem. And - I am working on a patch for current OpenLDAP CVS as well together with somebody from univention.de. I'd rather use something I can fix instead of using third party code again and trying to keep it alive later. What direction are you going? Are you rewriting tls.c and other parts of OpenLDAP code implementing OpenSSL API or try to simulate OpenSSL behavior (produce compatibility layer)? I've gone the latter way although some functions are almost impossible to simulate. Your help is of course very welcome, I'd like to join forces to get this up and running. No problem. I could help. I could move my current working tree to svn.debian.org or something if needed. This would be grate. Regards, Modestas pgplLCl0Wkaim.pgp Description: PGP signature

Bug#263835: slapd: I'm working on the GnuTLS patch for OpenLDAP 2.2
Hi Modestas, On Sat, Feb 12, 2005 at 02:26:10PM +0200, Modestas Vainius wrote: You know that the OpenSSL compat layer has nearly identical issues to the OpenSSL lib itself? The old patch did not use it because of them. The only problems I'm aware of are licensing issues. Compat layer is licensed under GPL, isn't it? Are there any other issues? I am not a lawyer. I only remember that debian-legal found out that we can't link OpenLDAP against OpenSSL and that the GnuTLS compat layer is also not a solution. Basically I don't think we need a compat layer anyway as tls.c is all in OpenLDAP that knows about TLS (not counting that few hacks in other places) and it does not use much of OpenSSL. Therefore I think the best idea is to just use GnuTLS directly. Actually, compat layer is quite crappy by itself. I've just taken some ideas from it. Good. What direction are you going? Are you rewriting tls.c and other parts of OpenLDAP code implementing OpenSSL API or try to simulate OpenSSL behavior (produce compatibility layer)? I've gone the latter way although some functions are almost impossible to simulate. I am going the first way. I think simulating OpenSSL via GnuTLS creates more problems than it solves. Therefore I am accessing GnuTLS directly. Your help is of course very welcome, I'd like to join forces to get this up and running. No problem. I could help. Fine! I could move my current working tree to svn.debian.org or something if needed. This would be grate. Done. It is available at svn://svn.debian.org/svn/pkg-openldap/projects/ldap-tls/trunk I can enable write access if you got an alioth account. Greetings Torsten signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Starting DAAP music sharing server: (... and it goes on, on and on) I killed the process after 2 hours due to lack of indication that the process would ever end by itself. Due to this hour(s) long hang up, the daapd is unusable in the presented environment. I assume it might work with fast 1G ethernet connections, but that's knot the typical home environment. SUGGESTION The daapd code needs restructuring to make it usable in any other environment than localhost (files at host A). It is not uncommon that files being too big to fit in server A, the data files are shared through other hosts (like B in my case). I haven't looked at the source, but I dare to make some suggestions for the code flow: - Do not try to scan all files at startup, but divide the task into chunks: A. Collect the directories to scan to a LIST. This should be fast. (easy recursive task) B. Store this LIST to disk as checkpoint X. = At this point return ok code to the caller, so that calling program can continue (in this case: /etc/init.d/daapd start process) C. Start examining the LIST one DIR at a time. = After processing one DIR, write checkpoint to disk and serve files collected so far. D. Continue repeating C, as long as there are still entries in LIST. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.9-1-686 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ISO-8859-1) (ignored: LC_ALL set to en_US) Versions of packages daapd depends on: ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-20 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libgcc1 1:3.4.3-9GCC support library ii libhowl00.9.8-2 Library for Zeroconf service disco ii libid3tag0 0.15.1b-3ID3 tag reading library from the M ii libstdc++5 1:3.3.5-8The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii mdnsresponder 0.9.8-2 Howl Rendezvous/mDNS service respo ii zlib1g 1:1.2.2-4compression library - runtime -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#294802: tin: line-wrap in German filter menu

Package: mysql-client-4.1 Version: 4.1.9-4 Severity: minor a very little thing: if no -h hostname option is specified the program uses the local unix socket to talk to the server. if -h 127.0.0.1 is given it talks to the server using the network. but if -h localhost is given it talks to the server using the socket instead of the network. on a local machine this is no problem, but this confuses the user for example if he is using a ssh tunnel to connect to a mysql server. i don't know if mysql-client has the same behaviour. thanks -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.10-1-686-smp Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages mysql-client-4.1 depends on: ii debianutils 2.11.2 Miscellaneous utilities specific t ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-20 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libdbd-mysql-perl 2.9003-3 A Perl5 database interface to the ii libdbi-perl 1.46-6 Perl5 database interface by Tim Bu ii libmysqlclient144.1.9-4 mysql database client library ii libncurses5 5.4-4Shared libraries for terminal hand ii libreadline44.3-15 GNU readline and history libraries ii libstdc++5 1:3.3.5-8The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii mysql-common-4.14.1.9-4 mysql database common files (e.g. ii perl5.8.4-6 Larry Wall's Practical Extraction ii zlib1g 1:1.2.2-4compression library - runtime -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#188448: Suggest to reupload with 32bit archs
Hello, given that the last email is from 24 Sep 2004 and that abuse-sdl seems to be fundamentally broken on 64bit archs I suggest removing abuse-sdl from sarge and re-uploading with only the 32bit archs Debian supports. Then this bug can be downgraded to important and the 32bit archs will re-enjoy abuse (well, since I've never been able to play it, I hope ...) Then, probably post-Sarge, you can find all those 32bit assumptions, fix them and re-enable the 64bit archs. The other option would be to uploaded the fixed package ASAP, if you already did correct the errounous 32bit assumptions ... What do you think? Greetings Helge -- Dr. Helge Kreutzmann, Dipl.-Phys.
