Bug#206364: Erwerben Sie soviel wie, Sie konnen! Schutzcode:JY-0742

2005-06-30 Thread Yan Hoffmann
Lieber Freund,
ganz typisch. Lassen Sie mich Ihnen drei Grunde vorlegen, warum Sie diesen

Was wichtig fur Sie zu
konnen Sie Ihr Geld ohne besondere Bemuhungen bekommen!

Keine Erfahrung brauchen Sie dafur.

Bug#316477: apache2-mpm-worker fails to execute any CGIs!

Package: apache2-mpm-worker
Version: 2.0.54-4
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

With mpm-worker and cgid, CGIs can't execute, because somewhere compiled
into the code is that path /var/run/cgisock which is quite different
from the /var/run/apache2/cgisock that comes specified in the cgid.conf
file! Without doing an strace, I would never have been able to figure
it out. Strace output, abreviated ~:^)

Hello,

I discovered the -b switch which allows to edit the text "as-is". This
is a workaround but not a good one (because sometimes you want to edit
gzip files or so but with charset detection).

This all _may_ work with an appropriate augroup...

Well, given that you filed three bugs all about the same issue, yes, two of
them would seem to be duplicates.

Ok. Do I get it right that aboot doesn't display any messages at all ?
(not even 'aboot: Linux/Alpha SRM bootloader version ') ?

I have done (am doing this) for other bootloaders. Should be doable for
aboot as well.

I think it might be good to interpret booted_osflags the same way for
netboot then for disk/cd boot. Ie as the aboot.conf entry to use for
booting. This would require a small aboot.conf to be included in the
netboot image.

Yep. Although SRM seems to be a reasonably well behaved firmware in my
experience.

Bug#61111: looks bogus for me

2005-06-30 Thread Eduard Bloch
Package: vim-gtk
Version: 1:6.3-078+1
Followup-For: Bug #6

Hello,

as maintainer of rxvt-unicode and daily VIM user, I can say that I
cannot not reproduce this, nor had I seen that bug in the last years.

Currently, it works with "rxvt" as well as with "rxvt-unicode" as well
as with "Eterm" as TERM value. I suggest closing this bug report.

Regards,
Eduard.

Bug#316476: kernel-source-2.6.11: Fails to boot since 2.6.11-4

2005-06-30 Thread Pascal Giard
Package: kernel-source-2.6.11
Version: 2.6.11-4
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

(Sorry if this is a dupe, i had filled it against
kernel-image-2.6.11-amd64-generic).

Since kernel-image-2.6.11-amd64-generic 2.6.11-4, the kernel-image won't
boot.

The first error message says something like:
" Can't load shared object file libc.so.6 "
The second error message says it can't find sda1.

My hypothesis is that the necessary modules for my onboard SATA
controller are no longer included in the initrd image.

I HAVEN'T modified /etc/mkinitrd/mkinitrd.conf.

I've a pretty common Asus K8V-X motherboard which SATA ctrler
requires at least scsi_mod, sata_via and libata to work.

Booting with the current kernel-image-2.6.8-amd64-generic image works fine.
I'm happy i kept my very old image before upgrading 2.6.11!!

Bug#316475: convert: trigger error on invalid -depth

2005-06-30 Thread Dan Jacobson
Package: imagemagick
Version: 6:6.0.6.2-2.4
Severity: minor
File: /usr/bin/convert
Tags: upstream

If the docs say
  -depth
  depth of the image

This is the number of bits in a color sample within a pixel. The
only acceptable values are 8 or 16.

Then one should get an error when using
$ convert -depth 1 -trim ribcage.ps ribcage.png
instead of just doing something else.

Bug#316473: convert: -trim -monochrome used together made empty image

2005-06-30 Thread Dan Jacobson
Package: imagemagick
Version: 6:6.0.6.2-2.4
Severity: normal
File: /usr/bin/convert
Tags: upstream

I had to do this in two steps:
$ convert -trim a.ps a.png
$ convert -monochrome a.png a.png
as this made an empty image:
$ convert -monochrome -trim a.ps a.png
convert: geometry dimensions are zero `ribcage.ps'

Same happens with convert -resize 100x100 -trim .

I see, the only safe way to do it is one step at a time:
convert ribcage.ps ribcage.png
convert -trim ribcage.png ribcage.png
convert -monochrome ribcage.png ribcage.png
convert -resize 100 ribcage.png ribcage.png
convert -monochrome ribcage.png ribcage.png
with some steps indeed repeated.

Bug#315923: Workaround

2005-06-30 Thread Everett Lipman
Here is a workaround that appears to solve all of the
problems I mentioned in the initial report. This
is necessarily specific to a Dell Dimension 8400 with
similar BIOS (mine is version A01 of 07/17/04).

1. Before booting the install disk, enter the
   BIOS "System Setup".

2. Using the menu, select "Drives".

3. From the resulting submenu, select "SATA Operation".

4. From the 4 operation modes offered, select

   RAID Autodetect / ATA .

   The other three options are

   RAID Autodetect / AHCI
   RAID On
   Combination

5. Boot the install disk.

6. At the prompt, enter "expert26".

The rest of the installation went fine, and both the hard
drive and CDROM were found after bootup once installation
was complete.

Currently, bootclean.sh uses both "find -exec" and "xargs" when deleting
files and directories. Dince findutils-4.2.3, find has had a -delete
action which we can use to replace both of these. In the general case
this is more secure because it's less exposed to race conditions, but
that's not relevant here. More usefully for us, it avoids us relying on
the existence of xargs, and it's neater. It's also more efficient but
the difference would probably be difficult to measure. Lastly, it's
less vulnerable to problems with very deep directory hierarchies (which
both xargs and -exec would suffer from).

I enclose a patch.

Bug#316467: please include GNU ddrescue or perhaps package it separately

2005-06-30 Thread Ryan Underwood
Package: ddrescue
Severity: wishlist

There is a different ddrescue by GNU which can be found here and has
different recovery behaviors:
http://www.gnu.org/software/ddrescue/ddrescue.html

I would like to see a package of this. In the meantime, the description
for this package should be changed to make it obvious that this is
Garloff's version and not GNU.

Bug#316466: bpalogin must not be stopped during upgrade

2005-06-30 Thread kk87
Package: upgrade-reports
Severity: serious
Method: aptitude over ssh
Upgrade date: Sat July 11th 2005 (started, not finished until the
following week)
uname -a: Linux tyreth.homelinux.org 2.4.26 #1 Mon Jul 26 17:03:33 EST
2004 i686 GNU/Linux

I tried to upgrade a computer from Woody to Sarge remotely via SSH, but
it failed during the ugprade process because dpkg stopped bpalogin.
bpalogin is an unofficial login client for cable and ADSL connections on
Telstra Bigpond, one of Australia's largest ISPs.
Without a login client running, no internet traffic can pass to or from
the machine.

Once bpalogin stopped, my SSH session froze and the upgrade stalled at
the next configuration question. The computer was disconnected from the
internet for several days until the owner returned and was able to
restart bpalogin at the console. After that, I was able to complete the
upgrade and all services are now operating normally.

Bpalogin must be treated the same way as SSH and other essential
services: it must not be left in a stopped state while other packages
are upgraded. I understand it may not be possible to fix this problem
for Sarge; if that is so, then a warning should be added to the release
notes.

For some truely weird reason, MessageParser.pm has split the *single* email in
three place, not only at the correct "From" header, but also at the
"X-From-Line:" header and also the "X-Draft-From:" header.

These headers appear in the source code in three places:

--- cut /usr/share/perl5/Mail/Mbox/MessageParser.pm ---
# Detects whether an ASCII file is a mailbox, based on whether it has
# a line whose prefix is 'From' or 'X-From-Line:' or 'X-Draft-From:',
# and another line whose prefix is 'Received ', 'Date:', 'Subject:',
# 'X-Status:', 'Status:', or 'To:'.
--- cut ---

and

--- cut /usr/share/perl5/Mail/Mbox/MessageParser/Config.pm ---
# X-From-Line is used by Gnus, and From is used by normal Unix
# format. Newer versions of Gnus use X-Draft-From
  'from_pattern' => q/(?x)^
  (X-Draft-From:\s|X-From-Line:\s|
  From\s
# Skip names, months, days
(?> [^:]+ )
# Match time
(?: :\d\d){1,2}
# Match time zone (EST), hour shift (+0500), and-or year
(?: \s+ (?: [A-Z]{2,3} | [+-]?\d{4} ) ){1,3}
# smail compatibility
(\sremote\sfrom\s.*)?
  )/,
--- cut ---

and

--- cut /usr/share/perl5/Mail/Mbox/MessageParser/Grep.pm ---
@grep_results =
`$Mail::Mbox::MessageParser::Config{'programs'}{'grep'}
--extended-regexp --line-number --byte-offset --binary-files=text
"^(X-Draft-From: .*|X-From-Line: .*|From [^:]+(:[0-9][0-9]){1,2}
([A-Z]{2,3} [0-9]{4}|[0-9]{4} [+-][0-9]{4}|[0-9]{4})( remote from
.*)?)\r?\$" "$filename"`;
--- cut ---

(note: wrapped to one line)

I am not sure about the first two references, but the last reference is
WRONG! Yes, gnus does use the headers (as shown above), but is does not
use them to split emails.

In fact, it looks like Gnus renamed the From header to "X-From-Line" so
splitting would *not* *occur* at that point.

Why X-Draft-From is used is beyond me, it is unrelated to the From
header.

I recommend deleting *all* instances of X-Draft-From and X-From-Line headers,
it would appear that whoever wrote this code didn't understand that they don't
serve the same purpose as the From header, and cannot be used to split email.

No. You can't mount the filesystem that scripts are going to be executed
in noexec, and expect to have it work. There have been long discussions
about it, and the best recommendation I have heard so far is to remount
/tmp rw before installing a package or upgrading. Since it's trivial to
work around a noexec /tmp anyway (think 'perl /tmp/rootme.pl'), it doesn't
seem to be worth the work to the debconf maintainers to work around it.
If you want to keep the bug open, I'll reassign it to debconf. If you
feel that there are enough of these bugs already open on debconf, then
we can close it. Just let me know.

Take care,

That is true. The debconf stuff is not set up to handle extremely
complicated setups like that. Fortunately, whenever 0.90 comes out, it
will start using boolean options, so debconf can put
ScanArchive 0

and this will work again.

it works in sid already (and is documented in the man page there, too)
and will certainly in etch. But you are right
that it won't work for woody and sarge chroots. I still believe it would
be wrong to use --force-yes since that may override many valid errors
while --allow-unauthenticated will only override the one error we're
seeing. Perhaps we can detect wether we need the option, somehow?

While repackaging, we've got many
"Compatibility levels before 3 are deprecated."

so a:
echo "4" > debian/compat
should be interesting. I'm not aware of packaging problems on other
platforms, but it might be ok on all of them.

Then this line in debian/rules:
$(MAKE) install DESTDIR=`pwd`/debian/tmp
isn't working anymore, please then consider this new one:
$(MAKE) install DESTDIR=$(CURDIR)/debian/apt-move

And the package can be created without any kind of warning.
(I didnt't tried with pbuilder since it's broken by now.)

Lintian reports:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/chroot/build/apt-move-4.2.23$ lintian -i -I
../apt-move_4.2.23_i386.deb
E: apt-move: duplicate-conffile /etc/apt-move.conf
(+informations, which leads to the following solution)

Removing this file:
debian/conffiles
makes it lintian-clean.

Sorry if I'm that far away from the bug topic, but I thought that
repackaging should be done as soon and as clean as possible. Then I
suggest an all-in-one repackaging method.

It would be nice if there was such an option, but I see no hint of it
in 'man apt-get' or 'apt-get --help'.

pbuilder needs to work with multiple releases, so if there was such a
new option that did not work in woody, sarge, etch and sid it souldn't
be used. (or pbuilder could be comlicated to test for it...)

Bug#316375: arch2darcs: darcs diff shows changes after import

2005-06-30 Thread John Goerzen
Hi everyone,

I got a strange report over at http://bugs.debian.org/316375 that I'm trying
to track down. I'm not sure if this is a bug in darcs or tla, but I'm
leaning towards darcs as the culprit. There seems to be a
non-deterministic difference in behavior of darcs diff on a repository
converted from arch to darcs using arch2darcs (which is nothing more
than a thin wrapper that invokes both tools via their respective
command-line interfaces).

Any help any of you could provide would be great.

Thanks,

Bug#316460: aptitude: should backup pkgstates

2005-06-30 Thread Gustavo Noronha Silva
Package: aptitude
Version: 0.3.2-4
Severity: normal

Hey,

I was bitten today by a crash while aptitude was saving its extended
state info. XFS happily filled pkgstates of binary crap instead of
its usual contents and then I now lost all the info about what packages
were automatically installed to fulfill depends (in which I highly
relied, btw).

A backup everytime pkgstate is being written, at least, would be very
useful and wise IMO =).

Thanks!

IMHO the right fix would be to use --allow-unauthenticated instead
of --force-yes ...

Bug#316459: groff: in LANG=ja_JP.eucJP env., hyphenation character \% does not prevent hyphenation

2005-06-30 Thread Michael Smith
Package: groff
Version: 1.18.1.1-8
Severity: important
Tags: l10n

Greetings from Tokyo.

Bad news: Handling of \% in LANG=ja_JP.eucJP environments is borked.

In a LANG=C environment, a word preceded by a \% character does
not get hyphenated under any circumstances. That is good. It is
the expected behavior.

But n a LANG=ja_JP.eucJP environment, if a word preceded by a
hyphen ends up falling at the end of a line in rendered output, it
may unexpectedly get hyphenated. That is bad.

The groff info docs make it clear that \% prevents hyphenation:

To tell `gtroff' how to hyphenate words on the fly, use the `\%'
escape, also known as the "hyphenation character". Preceding a
word with this character prevents it from being hyphenated [...]

Here is a minimal document that can be used to see the problem:

.TH "EXAMPLE" 7 "2007\-09\-04" "Version 1" "Controlling hyphenation"
  .\"
  .SH "NAME"
  .\"

  .\"
  .SH "DESCRIPTION"

  .PP
  Values for the \%version, \%recovery, \%debugging, \%timing,
  \%output, \%repeat, \%compression, \%insert, \%formatting,
  \%encodings, \%catalogs, \%automation, \%register, \%validate
options may be set in the configuration file as well as via the
  command line.

Can you please specify exactly where do you mean it has to be corrected?

Do you mean this question:

If so, well, somebody else made the proper changes and did not close the
bug, or you mean other specific section.

Bug#316457: w3m-el: package description include shimbun etc

2005-06-30 Thread Kevin Ryde
Package: w3m-el
Version: 1.4.4-1
Severity: wishlist

It'd be nice if the package description mentioned shimbun, I didn't
know w3m-el was more than just w3m within emacs, until I started
nosing around.

Maybe a few of the other extra features could be mentioned too, like
the weather and perldoc lookups.

All windows of the GNUstep applications share the same WM_CLASS
property. This includes even the menu and makes impossible for the user
to configure properly the window manager. If the user decides to make
the menu not a member in the window list then all application windows
will be outside the window list. If a user decides to make the
Inspector of GWorkspace a floating (to stay always over the other
windows) then all windows of GWorkspace will be floating.

When I tried to use the GNUstep application remotely on a diskless X
terminal I noticed that the contents of the windows is drawed very
slowly - pixel by pixel, row by row, so that the whole process of
drawing is clearly visible. The non-GNUstep windows draw fast.

If I try to select a few files in the Viewer (in Icon mode) by enclosing
them in a rectangle (with the mouse) the rectangle resizes unacceptably
slow. Notice that the rectangle in the root window of Window Maker
draws very fast.

This same problem happens when pbuilder tries to install build

Bug#220786: xmms: ALSA does not support master volume control instead of PCM

2005-06-30 Thread Takeshi Hakamata
With xmms 1.2.10+cvs20050209-2 on a sid box, I can properly configure
the ALSA output plugin to use the master volume as the mixer device for
xmms. You have to restart xmms to take the change into effect, but
that's another issue if it's not acceptable. I think this bug can be
closed.

Yes that is why I suggest you use the settings in the official
Aspell dictionary package. If the Debian dictionary maintainer thinks
otherwise I would appreciate an email to that effect.

You need to be sure to specify the correct language ie "aspell clean
strict -l " the set of warnings should be the same as when compiling
the word list, if not you did something wrong. If the language data file
is not installed in the expected location you might need to add
"--local-data-dir=".

Bug#316454: fetchmail: Puts "localhost" into Received header instead of hostname

2005-06-30 Thread Roger Lynn
Package: fetchmail
Version: 6.2.5-12
Severity: normal

When adding a Received: header to a message, Fetchmail puts "localhost"
instead of the name of the host Fetchmail is running on. This tells you
nothing about where the message has been received, which is the point of
the header, and is misleading and unhelpful. If every mail server did
this following email headers would be much harder.

For example:

Received: from pop3.demon.co.uk
by localhost with POP3 (fetchmail-6.2.5)
for [EMAIL PROTECTED] (multi-drop); Thu, 30 Jun 2005 00:14:08 ++0100
(BST)

Fetchmail is running on rilynn.demon.co.uk, and should say so.

There is a similar problem with delivery status messages produced by
Fetchmail. The messages contain the line:

Reporting-MTA: dns; localhost

which is fairly pointless and unhelpful, especially as exim gives the
name of the host thinks it is running on during the SMTP session:

reading message [EMAIL PROTECTED]:1 of 1 (1683 octets)
fetchmail: passed through [EMAIL PROTECTED] matching rilynn.demon.co.uk

2005-06-30 Thread Pascal Giard

Package: kernel-image-2.6.11-amd64-generic
Version: 2.6.11-4
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

Since 2.6.11-4, the kernel-image won't boot.

Bug#316456: gnumeric: SVG export for chart does not retain series patterns

2005-06-30 Thread Jeffery von Ronne
Package: gnumeric
Version: 1.5.2-1
Severity: normal

When I export an SVG of chart (using the "Save Image As" option in the
context menu), the resulting SVG does not retain the "pattern" of any
of the bars or in the legend. (Or if it does, it is ignored by both
karbon and inkscape. I can't tell from the SVG file itself.) This
makes it very difficult to get a high-quality black & white chart that I
can include in a latex paper.

Bug#316452: openoffice bash completion doesn't deal with directories or .csv files

2005-06-30 Thread Liam O'Boyle
Package: openoffice.org-debian-files

The bash completion functions listed
in /etc/bash_completion.d/openoffice do not correctly deal with

are not listed as possible completions.

Bash version: 3.0-16

Solution: see diff file attached. Summary below
 - use option "-o dirnames" with the complete function call
 - add .csv to oocalc and openoffice extensions

Fine, I added today support for *.cwl.gz files to our aspell-autobuildhash

long as they have that extension.

This seems something to be decided in a per dict basis and delegated on dict
maintainers. For some dicts the replacements code might suffice, but for
some others real phonetic code is needed. Not to mention sizes. When we
played with an aspell version of the catalan dictionary, the hash file went
over 100MB (yes, not a typo), but in my experiments with affix compression,
I think it went below 4MB (not have the dict here). The choice at that time
was to severely strip down the dictionary so the hash was manageable
(I think was ~10MB).

Brian, we should write something about this so dict maintainers have a clue.

But that is for building the hash, that is usually done by dict package
maintainer. In our case hash will be built by each user, so each user is
forced to have bzip2 installed. The vast majority will have it, but I am
rather reluctant to force that.

And from other message,

Thanks,

I only added "--dont-validate-affixes", I tested only gl-minimos and ca,
and catalan dict has some useless flags. Piping through
"aspell clean strict" gave me a lot of errors on the
'point in the middle char' that is used in catalan as part of words,
and I think that I had errors even on flag slashes in the affix
compressed ispell wordlist.

Cheers,

Package: argus-client

Hi,

OpenBSD has started reporting packet timestamps with
subsecond precision. ragraph fails when given tcpdumps
with this extra precision.

Debian Sarge
argus-client Version: 2.0.6.fixes.1-2
librrds-perl Version: 1.0.49-1

$ ragraph bytes -M 1s -r xl0tiny.argus

I figure the problem is in argus rather than librrds-perl
as it's up to argus to call the rrd API appropriately.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Anything I can do to work around this?

Thanks.

Bug#316446: fetchmail: Sends delivery status notifications with non-null reverse-path

2005-06-30 Thread Roger Lynn
Package: fetchmail
Version: 6.2.5-12
Severity: important

When the local SMTP daemon rejects a message, Fetchmail generates a
bounce messages with a non-null reverse-path, in violation of RFCs. In
addition, the username it uses (FETCHMAIL-DAEMON) does not exist, so any
responses will themselves bounce. This is likely to generate mail loops.

Also the message it sends has no subject, which is very unhelpful.

fetchmailrc:

In addition to generating a bounce, the original mail is forwarded to
postmaster, as can be seen on the last couple of lines above. My
understanding of the man page is that either a bounce should be
generated *or* it should be forwarded to the postmaster address, but not
both.

Thanks,

Roger

Looking at svk, I wanted to investigate why "svk mirror" does not work
for me, so I start with simple vcp operations, like copying from a

The problem comes from an invalid call to cvs, as shown in the log:

What is strange, is that Source::cvs.pm says:

   my $cvs_name = $self->SUPER::denormalize_name( $r->source_name );
   ## Use SUPER:: to avoid getting the leading '/'

Obviously SUPER::denormalize_name() does not ensure this in any way.
The following patch addresses this:

This is however not sufficient:

A quick investigation seems to show that dest::cvs::commit(), when
calling $self->cvs(), ignores stderr, and expects something on stdout,
but gets nothing on stdout.

I'll get a deeper look at it later, if noone beats me to it.

I wanted to be able to export a chart from gnumeric to EPS and I

GNOME and gnumeric (from the versions in Sarge) hoping it would
have better export functionality. Instead after teh upgrade,
gnumeric just crashes everytime I try to export a chart or

Bug#316437: circular dependency between libgnomevfs2-common and libgnomevfs2-0

This one is even more complicated than GConf. Here are the contents of
libgnomevfs2-common:

* modules configuration: can stay in this package;
* example binaries: can probably be moved to a separate libgnomevfs2-bin
package;
* /usr/lib/gnome-vfs-2.0/modules/: this directory is already versioned
and can probably be moved as is to libgnomevfs2-0. It's probably still
possible, though, that upstream changes the SONAME without changing the
modules interface. The modules would thus stay in the same directory.
Moving this to libgnomevfs2-0 is thus risky.
* /usr/lib/gnome-vfs2/gnome-vfs-daemon: can be moved
to /usr/lib/gnome-vfs-2.0, with the same caveats;
* /usr/lib/bonobo/servers/: can stay in this package;
* documentation: can (should) be moved away;
* schemas, l10n, default applications: can stay in this package;
* /usr/lib/bonobo/monikers/libmoniker_gnome_vfs_std.so: this file is
impossible to move, as the directory depends on libbonobo. We'd have to
check whether it is possible to rename it. However I don't feel like it
_at all_.

While I'd be tempted to make the move for gconf2, as applications
shouldn't be affected, I'm currently not convinced the benefits of doing
it for libgnomevfs2 outweigh the risks.

does work fine with gcj here, too. (Although I have both installed.
Hmm. No, works also when removing the Blackdown JDK..)
Do you have java-gcj-compat installed?

How does it crash?

Bug#316360: Please update magyar.ldf

2005-06-30 Thread Szabo Peter

Hi!

please update /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/babel/magyar.ldf to the new
version available from
http://www.math.bme.hu/~pts/cvsget.cgi/u=magyar/p=/M=lakk/c=f1/n=/lakk/texmf/tex/generic/magyar/magyar.ldf

The proper URL is http://www.math.bme.hu/latex/ , which contains the link
above. There is also a .deb package of MagyarLateX (containing magyar.ldf)
which I've created to make installation to Debian systems simpler.

- the mathematicians tell me many things don't work correctly with the old
one. I can ask them to elaborate if necessary.

I can confirm this. Too many packages (such as graphics,
hyperref, amsart) conflicting with the old one to list here. That's why
I've created the new one.

Ah, interesting. What kind of repository is this, and what is the lakk
module?

The repository is my private CVS repository. The lakk module our private
module which contains a lot of software and a book we've written about
LaTeX. The newest version of magyar.ldf and other files of MagyarLaTeX are

publicly available from the lakk module.

teTeX is usually made from CTAN, therefore it would be best if you ask
Peter Szabo to upload the file (together with magyar.dtx) to CTAN.

No, I won't upload it, because I don't have time to re-upload after each
bugfix. Since it is free software, anybody can freely upload it anywhere.
If you think it should be on CTAN, please upload it there.

Furthermore, he should add again the license statement that was in the
earlier version.

I've added a license statement a few minutes above. Please tell me if it's
OK.

I hope that this is in fact a newer version, and not a fork -- the file
in our package says that Arpad Biro and Joszef Berces own copyright from
work until 2004 and doesn't mention Peter Szabo, while the file at the
above link says that Peter was working on it since 2003, and Joszef
stopped working in 2001. This should really be cleared up --
unfortunately I don't have an e-mail address of any of them.

They are not working on it -- 1.4 appeared in 2001, and only a few minor
bugfixes after that. Version 1.5 incorporates those bugfixes, any many
more. I don't have their address, either.

Best regards,

Péter

Bug#316441: exim4-base: tls_on_connect_ports config field does not accept the service name rather than port.

2005-06-30 Thread Alexander Myodov
Package: exim4-base
Version: 4.50-8
Severity: normal

The field tls_on_connect_ports in the configs accepts only port number, and not
the service name.
I.e., the line "tls_on_connect_ports = 465" is correct, while the line
"tls_on_connect_ports = ssmtp" or "tls_on_connect_ports = smtps" causes Exim to
generate the log lines like

  2005-07-01 02:15:26 tls_on_connect_ports contains "ssmtp", which is not a
port number: exim abandoned
  2005-07-01 02:18:35 tls_on_connect_ports contains "smtps", which is not a
port number: exim abandoned

Documents indeed do not describe that this field should accept the service
name, though it is strange, as this field is very close by its meaning to
daemon_smtp_ports which allows the settings like "daemon_smtp_ports = smtp :
ssmtp".

Bug#316440: FTBFS: build-depends not strict enough

2005-06-30 Thread Christian T. Steigies
Package: policycoreutils
Version: 1.24-1
Severity: important

policycoreutils failed to build on my m68k box, as on all other arches. It
has since been tried again on s390 (unlike checkpolicy, the rebuild on ia64
failed), where it succeeded to build. When looking at those build-logs, it
seems that the successsful build used libsepol1-dev 1.6-1, while the failed
builds used libsepol1-dev 1.4-1. Your build-depends say libsepol1-dev (>=
1.4-1), maybe you should change that to >= 1.6-1. Alternatively you could
ask for the build to be retried on all remaining arches, which would
probably work. But if libsepol1-dev 1.4-1 is buggy, the cleaner solution
would be to tighten the build-deps, IMHO.

Good idea, however what about if the user sets the 'RunAsDaemon'
option in mrtg.conf (i.e. with cfgmaker ) and then wonders why it
still does not work? Perhaps not introducing any more config files
than the package already provides might be best? This is why I have
been trying to get the script to check for that option - transparent
as far as the user is concerned.

I think I need sleep now 8-|

attached is a joyously useful program that makes up for the lack of
print reporting in fwbuilder.

it's a dog, it's hacked, it works. i wouldn't recommend making python a
dependency because of it, but i _would_ recommend dumping it in the
/usr/share/doc/fwbuilder/examples directory and referencing it in the
README.

Bug#316436: mozilla-firefox: firefox should honor /etc/ssl/certs/

Package: mozilla-firefox

Hi,

as a site admin I tend to place my local root certificate in
/etc/ssl/certs on all my systems. wget and w3m use this directory and
now accept certs signed by my CA without checking back with the user.

I think firefox too should accept certificates placed by the admin in
/etc/ssl/certs.

Ideally it would use those exclusively. If the admin wants they can
still install ca-certificates to get all the silly certs by the big
ssl cert businesses.

I think the best way is just add /etc/default/mrtg file with option,

# uncomment to run as a daemon
#
# RUN_AS_DAEMON="true"

Then have in /etc/init.d/mrtg,

. /etc/default/mrtg
test "x$RUN_AS_DAEMON" == "xtrue" || exit 1;

and something similar in the mrtg cronjob to prevent running if
RUN_AS_DAEMON is set to true.
