Bug#489249: tuxpaint: Incorrect KDE menu entry showing up in Lost and Found [nb]

2008-07-09 Thread Ben Armstrong
Petter,

Is the problem still present in 1:0.9.20? It has an all-new desktop
file, so it should be solved, but since you reported the problem in a
norwegian locale which I do not use, I thought I had better ask first
before closing this one.

Thanks,
Ben

the user should be able to use the slider to seek within videos as they

 yet to download).

There are several upstream bugs about this. 361793 is about feedback,
and using the slider to show this. 524771 is about seeking in streaming
videos (seems to be GStreamer specific), the bug mentions Flash videos
specifically, but from a duplicate bug it seems to also be about
streaming in general.

434027 is also about seeking problems in streaming videos. It seems to
be the best match for what you describe above. It's set as NEEDINFO so
you should probably add your examples in a comment.

It's not really already :) but yes, it fixes most of the bug that I

But, I see one part of the bug left over in it: in the case where
pdns_recursor isn't killed because it's not found, it doesn't show the

that it will always exit with code 0 (because of --oknodo).

The main issue here is interaction with the bootloader (syslinux).

Is there any way to edit the parameters on the ISO image so that it
forces the loader AND the kernel to ignore the VGA hardware and work
 via the serial port?

You should be able to change the syslinux config so that it
1) does not wait for enter, but just boots using a preset set of
   options
2) uses the serial console

A CD-based install is possible but probably not the most suited for that
as it requires remastering of the CD image. I'd try either netboot or
boot from USB stick (using hw-media image). See the installation guide
for details.

Bug#490108: linux-2.6: please enable CONFIG_X86_P4_CLOCKMOD

2008-07-09 Thread Yves-Alexis Perez
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.25-6
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

desktop x86 cpus before Core 2 Duo don't have (enhanced) speedstep, so they
can't use acpi-cpufreq nor speedstep-centrino to do frequency scaling.

However, they can use p4-clockmod to do frequency throttling, which is not as
good as frequency scaling but still can be useful.

http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/kernel/cpufreq/hardware.html has a list
of which hardware is supported for which module.

So it'd be nice if CONFIG_X86_P4_CLOCKMOD (and CONFIG_P4_CLOCKMOD on i386 I
guess) could be enabled.

Cheers,

Bug#490111: fai-client: fai-do-scripts confused by new file output: PERL

2008-07-09 Thread Andrew Ruthven
Package: fai-client
Version: 3.2.8
Severity: grave
Tags: patch
Justification: renders package unusable

Hello,

Almost a repeat of bug report 416616 where the output from file has changed.
But in this case it is for Perl scripts which have -w on the shebang line.

The output used to be:

/tmp/foo.pl: perl script text executable

Now it is:

/tmp/foo.pl: a /usr/bin/perl -w script text executable

So now fai-do-scripts will refuse to run any Perl scripts with -w.

The attached patch to fai-do-scripts resolves this issue.

Cheers!

Bug#490095: lsb-base: init-functions pidofproc(), status_of_proc()

This patch fixes a couple of minor issues with pidofproc() and reverts a
 patch to status_of_proc().

 pidofproc():

 * If a pidfile is available, but the euid is not that of the
process owner (or root), the kill -0 call will fail with
Operation not permitted. This patch adds an elif block that
uses ps to check for a matching process in the process table.
Note that in cases where the pidfile is not available
and /bin/pidof is used, such an ownership check is *not*
performed.

 * The /bin/pidof call needs to || status=$? in order to be
set -e safe. This is a patch that Ubuntu is carrying and
should be applied to Debian.

 * Also, per [1], pidofproc() should probably return 3 if the
program is not running. At least it does at one point in the
function, but not in the last return. Ubuntu has also been
carrying this patch for some time.

 status_of_proc():

 * So this patch reverts my last one for Bug #483285 (sorry!).
That fix was to solve the problem that pidofproc() required
privileges to do the kill -0. At the urging of Matt Zimmerman
and Steve Lanagasek, I fixed the problem in pidofproc() instead
of hacking around it in status_of_proc().

 [1]
 http://refspecs.linux-foundation.org/LSB_3.1.0/LSB-Core-generic/LSB-Core-generic/iniscrptact.html

Is this the right patch? It appears to be relative to 3.2-12 (or
earlier), not 3.2-13.

Bug#403335: gdebi: new upstream version, bugfix

2008-07-09 Thread Mert Dirik
Hi Rafael,
I've had a conversation with Amaya Rodrigo Sastre ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) today and
she said she will sponsor me if I prepare new upstream version. If you have
another ideas, please share them before I prepare the package.

I think gdebi-kde is broken by changes in python-kde3, may be we have to wait
for a port to KDE4 by upstream to can use gdebi-kde in Debian.

How gdebi-kde is broken? And how will KDE4 port will help? (Lenny will use KDE
3.5)

But I could build a new version of gdebi, and i think i can fix bug 403335
doing a small modification in gdebi code:

 Original code is:
 if res.upper().startswith(_(Y)):
 debi.install()

 I can add:
 if res.upper().startswith(_(Y)):
 debi.install()
 if res.upper().startswith(_(S)):
 debi.install()

I think it is brain-dead idea. We can't add conditions for each language! And
also, it is from the changelog:

 gdebi (0.2ubuntu9) feisty; urgency=low

   [ Michael Vogt ]
   * fixed i18n in yes/no question

I don't know how he did it but I guess this bug can be closed with the upload.

Thanks

Bug#490114: live-helper: Please detect buggy LH_BOOTSTRAP_{IN,EX}CLUDE variables

2008-07-09 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Package: live-helper
Version: 1.0~a47-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi,

currently, if one sets one of the LH_BOOTSTRAP_{IN,EX}CLUDE variables to
something space-separated, that leads to:
| $ sudo lh_build
| P: Begin caching bootstrap stage...
| P: Begin bootstrapping system...
| E: No such script: lenny

With the attached patch:
| $ sudo lh_build
| P: Begin caching bootstrap stage...
| P: Begin bootstrapping system...
| E: LH_BOOTSTRAP_EXCLUDE is comma-separed, not space-separated

One might also want to echo the contents of the offending variable at
that moment.

One might even want to fix this by running a sed command on the
variable, but I'm not sure it's a nice thing to do.

The same might apply for cdebootstrap, but I didn't check.

Cheers,

--
Cyril Brulebois
Check LH_BOOTSTRAP_{IN,EX}CLUDE are a single word, and specify they have to be
comma-separated.

It would be great if tuxmath had a lang option too :-) It's quite a FAQ...
best if --help would also tell me which languages are available.

to answer the original question:

Can you try the attached patch against xulrunner ? (not tested ; I /think/

This patch was lacking a definition for one virtual member of
nsMIMEInfoImpl. The newly attached patch does this, and some other stuff
that should fix your issue, and some others that I saw at the same time.

I've just got back home from a whirlwind tour of several cities. I will
likely package and upload it tomorrow.

Thanks already, do you also take care of the upload to volatile?

Yes, of course. I always do. This looks like it will be one of the few
releases of clamav where I won't also be doing a backport and upload to
etch/security :/

How gdebi-kde is broken? And how will KDE4 port will help? (Lenny will use
 KDE 3.5)

I have figured it out. It tries to import konsolePart from kparts, but
konsolePart isn't there since it is an Ubuntu specific patch.

Since we can't fix python-kde3, I'm in favor of removing gdebi-kde. Version in
Etch doesn't have gdebi-kde, so we aren't abandoning anybody.

(Amaya, what do you think? Can/Should we remove it?)

Bug#490119: vegastrike: starts with Error: no rooms found

2008-07-09 Thread Thomas Knott
Package: vegastrike
Version: 0.5~svn12126-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

NOTE: The following description is copied from
https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=30533
My experience is exactly the same tho the output is different. The error
messages are the same but of course I included the original output my install
gave me. (esp since the mandriva-one is about 0.4.3)

When Vegastrike starts, it opens with a simple graphic of a ship and a message
error: no rooms found. The usual graphics for the base interiors are missing;
there's just a single screen providing access to Ships, Upgrades, Cargo, etc.
Dynamic aspects like Missions and News are blank. The ship can be launched and
can navigate to other locations, but they are also missing the usual interior
graphics. No other ships are generated for ship-to-ship interaction. You're
bascially alone in the universe.

Starting from the command line, I get the following:

SyntaxError: invalid syntax
Compiling python module modules/dj.py
  File /home/myusername/.vegastrike-0.4.x/modules/dj.py, line 1
import dj_lib

This is repeated a lot of times. Then:

This one is against 3.2-13. Sorry about that!

I changed the way status_of_proc() supports pidfiles, to match the -p
$pidfile syntax used elsewhere for the sake of consistency.

Could you please detail why do you think that this tool would be useful to

Bug#488275: [Pkg-samba-maint] Bug#488275: samba and winbind: initscript miss 'status' option

2008-07-09 Thread Dustin Kirkland
Here is a patch that provides the status action functionality for nmbd,
smbd, and winbindd. I developed this against Ubuntu and am submitting
this for inclusion in Debian. Thanks to Steve for his copious feedback
on IRC.

Note that the hunk dealing with the debian/control file may need to be
tweaked based on the acceptance of the patch for [1] being accepted into
lsb-based and released.

Bug#339770: darcs-server: Package name conflicts

2008-07-09 Thread Nathaniel W Filardo
*** Please type your report below this line ***

As mentioned earlier, the name darcs-server conflicts with the
software at http://www.equational.org/darcs-server/ and seems to be
entirely a Debian invention:
  1. Darcs internally calls this darcs.cgi, so perhaps darcs-cgi
would be a better package name.
  2. Further, darcs.net's related software page
 (http://wiki.darcs.net/DarcsWiki/RelatedSoftware) calls the
equational.org package darcs-server, so people coming from that
page to their Debian systems, like yours truly, are likely to
 be confused.

I'd like to package equational.org's software, but this package has
usurped that package's name.

Thanks.

Well, if you do you'll have to provide a bit more useful information than
this...

Please send us the syslog (gzipped!!) and hardware-summary for your
install. You can get them by using the Save debug logs option in the
main menu of the installer after the failure. Use the webserver in the
installer or copy them /var/log/ somehow.

You can also start by checking the syslog yourself for obvious problems.

Bug#490123: dnsmasq: appears to be vulnerable to cache poisoning attack CVE-2008-1447

2008-07-09 Thread Hamish Moffatt
Package: dnsmasq
Version: 2.42-4
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

dnsmasq appears to be vulnerable to CVE-2008-1447, the DNS cache
poisoning exploit. From my reading of the source code and observation
with tcpdump, dnsmasq doesn't do any source port randomisation.

dnsmasq binds a UDP socket for each of the forwarding name servers when
they are added (on startup, or configuration change), then uses those
sockets forever. The source port doesn't change between queries. tcpdump
confirms this.

thanks
Hamish

Why is every problem with wpasupplicant Severity: important ... ;-)

Yesterday I tried to setup WEP encryption but failed (reported #489948)
and today tried WPA and also failed (reported this). So I assumed that
wpa_supplicant is completely broken for ad-hoc mode and I find this
important. If you disagree then please change the severity.
Btw. I usualy report this kind of bugs directly to the upstream but their
bugzilla requires me to get an account and I don't want to register.

I understand, was just making a cheeky remark based on the severity of last
dozen or so bug reports.

I tried to setup WPA in Ad-Hoc mode but failed. On the other hand in
  windows
this works fine which means that other peer is configured properly.

  http://lists.shmoo.com/pipermail/hostap/2008-July/018036.html

 Yes, I think I saw that. There's a 2.6.26-rc9 package on kernel
buildserver so I only need recent git pull of the supplicant.

You can try something from:
http://sidux.net/kelmo/debian/pool/main/w/wpasupplicant/

Or wait for next upload I guess.

Thanks, Kel.

Bug#490124: warn that require-mppe-128 option is no longer the default

2008-07-09 Thread Joe Nahmias
Package: pptp-linux
Version: 1.7.2-1
Severity: normal

Hello,

After upgrading from 1.7.0, I discovered that I could no longer connect
to my company's VPN. After a quick debug session on IRC with Quozl, it
was determined that this was due to the require-mppe-128 option no
longer being the default.

It would be nice if this were mentioned in a NEWS.Debian so that others
who encounter such upgrade (eg. etch-lenny) issues have something to help
them out.

Thanks,

Bug#489190: ps/2 not working in 2.6.24

2008-07-09 Thread Guillaume Morin
FWIW, I am having exactly the same problem. The mouse is not detected
with the 2.6.24 and 2.6.22 amd64 kernel packages in Lenny. 2.6.18 works
just fine though. The 2.6.18 kernel in etch works too..

Any information I can provide about this?

I found this: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10382

But this is a regression *from* 2.6.24. I decided to mention it
because you might have picked a patch from the broken tree.

Package: horde3
Version: 3.2.1+debian0-1
Severity: important

Coin,

Version 3.2.1 contains a very nasty MIME handling bug, which dumps
quite annoying errors and may impact mail listings. Happily this is
fixed in 3.2.2. See the following ticket for a more detailed
explanation with a patch:

  http://bugs.horde.org/ticket/6930

Thanks.

CentOS 5.1 and CentOS 5.2 both detect the SATA Raid volume set up in

 prefer to install Debian.

Cheers,

Installed kbd and reconfigured console-data so that it would
reinstall the br-abnt2 keymap, and it's fine.

And what happens when you re-re-install console-common?

After apt-get --reinstall install console-common

Bug#490127: libwebkit-1.0-1: CVE-2008-2307 javascript memory corruption security issue

2008-07-09 Thread Michael Gilbert
Package: libwebkit-1.0-1
Version: 1.0.1-1
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

the webkit packages in fedora were recently updated to fix a
memory corruption issue in the javascript handler [1].

i'm not sure if this affects sid since the webkit package no longer
indicates the svn version number, but this should be looked at. it looks
like webkit svn 34655 includes fixes for the problem.

thanks for the hard work.

Bug#443564: Me too

2008-07-09 Thread David Tulloh

I just wanted to stick my hand up for a 'me too' on this bug.

The bug occurred when I upgraded apt and friends to testing (apt
0.7.14+b1). dpkg was an old testing version, I'm afraid I don't have
the version number. apt and all the other related packages were stable
(apt 0.6.46.4-0.1)

I haven't tried to resolve/fix the bug yet and have no urgent need to
get apt back up. So I'm happy to provide any further information or tests.

Bug#476710: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the netselect package

2008-07-09 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear maintainer of netselect and Debian translators,

Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the netselect Debian
package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation
update in the BTS.

I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization
bug as well as all other pending translations.

The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in two
weeks, so I will proceed with the NMU.

The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail.

The package is currently translated to:
bg cs de es eu fi fr gl it ja nb nl pt pt_BR ru sv vi

Among these, the following translations are incomplete: pt_BR sv

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get
ANOTHER mail with the translation to update.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations
for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report
against the netselect package so I can incorporate them in the build.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Saturday, July 19,
2008. If you
are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS.

The POT file is attached to this mail.

If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU
and send him/her all updates I receive.

Otherwise the following will happen (or already has):

Wednesday, July 09, 2008 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
 the package maintainer.
Thursday, July 10, 2008 : send this notice
Thursday, July 17, 2008 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation
updates
Friday, July 18, 2008 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/2-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Sunday, July 20, 2008 : NMU uploaded to incoming

Thanks for your efforts and time.

When Vegastrike starts, it opens with a simple graphic of a ship and a
message error: no rooms found. The usual graphics for the base interiors
are missing; there's just a single screen providing access to Ships,
Upgrades, Cargo, etc. Dynamic aspects like Missions and News are blank. The
ship can be launched and can navigate to other locations, but they are also
missing the usual interior graphics. No other ships are generated for
ship-to-ship interaction. You're bascially alone in the universe.

Try issuing the command 'vegastrike explore_universe.mission'. You can
actually replace 'explore_universe.mission' with any mission file in the
directory '/usr/share/games/vegastrike/mission/'.

This is fixed in SVN packaging of 0.5.

Bug#490129: debian-edu-install: [INTL:fr] French debconf templates translation update

2008-07-09 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: debian-edu-install
Version: N/A
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch l10n

Please find attached the french debconf templates update, proofread by the
debian-l10n-french mailing list contributors.

If you do not already use it, you might consider using the
podebconf-report-po utility, which helps warning translators about
changes when you modify some debconf templates in your packages.

The usual policy when using it is sending a warning to translators
when you plan to upload a version of your package with debconf
templates changes (even typo corrections). Then leave about one week
for them to update their files (several translation teams have a QA
process which requires time).

podebconf-report-po will take care of sending the translators the
needed material as well as getting the translators adresses from the
PO files. All you have to do is just using the utility..:-)

Example use (from your package build tree):

$ podebconf-report-po

This will go through debian/po/*.po files, find those needing an
update, extract the translators data from these files and prepare a
mail to send to these translators (you can also use the
--languageteam switch to also mail the mail addresses listed in
Language-Team field).

You can also use this utility to request for new translations:

$ podebconf-report-po --call

This will send a mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with all the
needed information and material for new translators to add new
languages to your supported languages.

If you apply this policy, please forget about these remarks, of
courseThis message is generic..:-)

Bug#490130: bmpx: equaliser doesn't, and causes pops during playback

2008-07-09 Thread Michael Deegan
Package: bmpx
Version: 0.40.14-1
Severity: normal

Enabling the equaliser doesn't seem to make an audible difference, except
to cause loud pops between tracks. I also notice that the bars on the
spectrum analyser max out during silence. There is also glitching noise
when seeking.

So, even though we only have one fuzzy string (fixed in #483835 for

This week - possibly even tonight.

Waiting enough allowed Catalan to send an update. But now, are you
ready for the upload ? I don't really want to start an l10n NMU for
postfix which is so well maintained..:-)

Bug#490132: audacious: plugin package dependency not sufficiently tightly versioned

I tried audacious for the first time, today and was a little bit
disappointed at being presented with a SEGV before I'd even got as far as
playing a song. :P

About 60% of the time, enabling the status icon plugin resulted in
something like:

Further investigation suggests that it was probably due to differing
versions of audacious and audacious-plugins in lenny at the moment, as
upgrading the plugins package to the version in unstable cures this
particular problem.

If plugins really do depend on a specific build of audacious (or vice
versa), then this should be reflected in the packages' dependencies.

Anyway, and given that I've been packaging beta versions (from upstream's

build your package from mentors.d.o, and I'm afraid it FTBFS due to a wrong
dependence on python-gconf, which doesn't exists within Debian and should be
 replaced by python-gnome2.

Bug#487475: xsane: Control/menu selection problem with epson backends via net driver [patch]

2008-07-09 Thread Brad Sawatzky
On Sun, 22 Jun 2008, Julien BLACHE wrote:

[ . . . ]
Anything in the option descriptor can change after the backend tells
the frontend to reload the options, and I think that's what you're
seeing with gdb when the net backend refreshes the option
descriptors. But the memory allocated by sanei_wire for the option
descriptors and their content should not get overwritten unless
 there's been a call to sane_get_option_descriptor().

The code flow looks roughly like this:

frontend calls sane_get_option_descriptor() for first option
net backend loads option descriptors (fetch_options())
frontend calls sane_get_option_descriptor() a few more times to load all
 options
frontend sets an option value by calling sane_control_option()
net backend forwards to underlying backend
underlying backend replies with info containing SANE_INFO_RELOAD_OPTIONS
net backends marks local copy as invalid, forwards to frontend
frontend calls sane_get_option_descriptor() for first option
net backend loads option descriptors (fetch_options())
frontend calls sane_get_option_descriptor() a few more times to reload all
 the options

I've been trying to understand the net backend code this evening.

I see where fetch_options() iterates over the option list and makes a local
copy in net.c:
   memcpy (s-local_opt.desc[option_number], s-opt.desc[option_number],
   sizeof (SANE_Option_Descriptor));
However, this memcpy does not duplicate the .constraint member of the
associated SANE_Option_Descriptor. It copies the pointer stored in the
opt.desc structure but not the underlying data.

The sanei_w_* code still confuses me a bit, but doesn't fetch_options()
clear s-opt right near the top of the function? I'm looking at
   sanei_w_set_dir (s-hw-wire, WIRE_FREE);
   s-hw-wire.status = 0;
   sanei_w_option_descriptor_array (s-hw-wire, s-opt);
Drilling into this last function we get to sanei_w_array() where the
memory associated with s-opt[] gets free()'d. Now the pointer that was
stored in menu_item[0].label =
   s-local_opt.desc[44].string_list[0] =
   s-opt.desc[44].string_list[0]
but that memory just been deallocated. The menu will still work correctly
if that memory is left untouched, or if s-opt happens to be restored
exactly as it was when the menu was initially constructed. (And if it's
the latter, why bother making the local copy in the first place?)

What is the intent of duplicating s-opt into s-local_opt? If it is to
provide a stable local version of the scanner descriptors then shouldn't
the .constraint union (*string_list, *word_list, or *range) be duplicated
as well?

Bug#490133: Doesn't play command-line arguments on first invokation

2008-07-09 Thread Chris Lamb
Package: audacious
Version: 1.5.1-1
Severity: minor

Audacious doesn't play command-line arguments on first invokation. For
example, executing:

  % audacious foo.mp3

.. with no instance of audacious running will start audacious with the saved
playlist from the *previous* invokation and begin playing it. Running the
command again from a different terminal (or similar) begins playing foo.mp3.

(Specifying -p causes a SEGV, but I think this already filed elsewhere;
regardless, it is not clear it would be necessary as the above command does
indeed begin playback, just with the old playlist.)

I can reproduce this with the version in upstream's Mercurial tree (r4718:)
