Hmmm, could you please split this in two patches? One for translations
and another for new tasks?

I think we should not apply these patches for lenny:

- Telugu will not be offerred in D-I
- adding new tasks to tasksel, for languages not supported in D-I, is
fairly useless

Of course, these patches should be applied later, for squeeze
development. So, if tasksel git is branched the patch(es) should by
applied to the squeeze branch.

I understand your sentiment, and it is indeed a "grey" area situation. If I
take policy literary, I think this package is fine in main, but it is not as
simple...

In order to get this bug rolling (and lenny released ;-) ), can you all live
with me splitting up the package in two packages:

1) foo2zjs: this contains everything, and lives in mains, which Suggests:
2) foo2zjs-contrib: this contains getweb

I know a package with just a script is not nice, but it is more in the spirit
of the debian policy indeed.

thanks, Joost

Bug#502949: Upgrading to current upstream svn solved the problem

2008-10-25 Thread Michael Welsh Duggan
As in bug #500157, I followed the directions in
http://wiki.debian.org/de/GRUB2/Anleitung/DebianPaketVonOriginalQuelltext
to rebuild a debian package from the upstream grub2 sources. This
appears to have solved my problem.

I/O ports at a000 [size=128]
Capabilities: [40] Power Management version 2
Capabilities: [50] AGP version 3.0

After some time at the kdm login prompt, the screen locks up - the mouse
will move the cursor but no input does anything.

Also, sometimes new menus or konsole sessions will overwrite the

Bug#479607: please review new lilo debconf question

2008-10-25 Thread William Pitcock
This looks fine. I intended to do this myself, but have not been upload
enabled recently, nor have had enough time to test large-memory on older
machines. My estimate though is that anything P3-era or newer has a new
enough BIOS to handle large-memory.

That said, this looks like the best solution for this bug.

Bug#479607: please review new lilo debconf question

2008-10-25 Thread Paul Wise
Hi all,

[Please reply to myself, the bug and the list]

As part of the bug sprint for cookies, I've been assigned to fix an RC
bug in lilo (#479607 and clones). Since I don't know assembly, my
proposed fix will be to add a debconf prompt asking if the person doing
the upgrade wants to add the large-memory option to their configuration
file. I will also add a NEWS.Debian file so that other sysadmins may
receive information about the issue and a README.Debian entry with full
info about the issue and extra tips for solving it. It would be great if
debian-l10n-english could review the text for these three parts:

NEWS.Debian entry

lilo (1:22.8-6) unstable; urgency=low

lilo may fail to boot with a large kernel+initrd. Please read
README.Debian for ways to work around this problem.

 -- Paul Wise <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sat, 25 Oct 2008 21:24:04 +0800

debconf question:

Template: lilo/add_large_memory
Type: boolean
Default: true
_Description: Do you want to add the large-memory option?
By default lilo loads the initrd file into the first 15Mb of memory
to avoid a BIOS limitation with older systems (earlier than 2001).
 .
Unfortunately with newer kernels the combination of kernel and initrd
may not fit into the first 15Mb of memory and so the system will not
boot properly. It seems that the boot issues appear when the
kernel+initrd combination is larger than 8MB.
 .
If you have a newer BIOS without the 15Mb limitation, you can add the
large-memory option to /etc/lilo.conf to tell lilo to use more memory
for passing the initrd to the kernel. You will need to re-run lilo
to make this option take effect.
 .
If you have an older BIOS you may need to reduce the size of the initrd
*before* rebooting, please see README.Debian for tips on how to do that.

README.Debian entry:

--[ Large initrd files and lilo

By default lilo loads the initrd file into the first 15MB of memory
to avoid a BIOS limitation with older systems (earlier than 2001).

Unfortunately with newer kernels the combination of kernel and initrd
may not fit into the first 15MB of memory and so the system will not
boot properly.

If you have a newer BIOS without the 15MB limitation, you can add the
large-memory option to /etc/lilo.conf to tell lilo to use more memory
for passing the initrd to the kernel. You will need to re-run lilo
to make this option take effect.

If you have an older BIOS you will need to reduce the size of the initrd
*before* rebooting.

If you are using initramfs-tools, you should replace MODULES=most with
MODULES=dep in your configuration and regenerate your initrd file:

sed -i -e s/MODULES=most/MODULES=dep/ /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf
update-initramfs -u

If you are using yaird or any other initrd generator, please consult
the documentation for your initrd generator.

Bug#503444: debsums: shows "never" default option instead of selected option

2008-10-25 Thread Arthur Marsh
Package: debsums
Version: 2.0.39
Severity: normal

When updating debsums I received the following dialogue, but showing the
difference between the old and new config files showed the default
setting for the new config file "never" instead of the option I had just
selected "weekly".

The difference displayed should be between the new config file with the
option
selected against the old file, *not* the default config file in the new
version without the option selected applied against the old file.

Even better would be to interpret what option had been set in the old
/etc/default/debsums, show it to the user with a message suggesting a
new default checking option and then present the user with
the alternative options daily/weekly/monthly/never.

Bug#502751: downgrade to "normal" or gracefully fail in postinst?

2008-10-25 Thread Kees Cook

Hi!

How about just allowing a download failure in the postinst instead?
This wouldn't compromise the ability for "update-eicar" to do its job,
but would allow the package to install if an external network was not
available.

Thanks,

-Kees

That's apparently just a warning. The example actually works for me but
just closes the notification so fast it can't be seen.

Try adding a sleep statement between show() and close().

Bug#502447: strange library versions?

Alexander, can you double-check your versions of libwxbase2.6-0 and
libwxgtk2.6-0? Your versions of those libraries aren't in Debian.
Also, when it crashes, what are the first few lines of output? You can
catch them by running audacity with:

LIBC_FATAL_STDERR_=1 audacity >/tmp/crash.log 2>&1

I ignored nothing. This does not mean I will come to the same conclusion.

I guess I should ask, do you have an less issues less relevant waiting in
the wings? While more speed is good, that is worthless if it is badly
broken.

> thread);
>  - this patch have to change internals of apt;
>  - this patch can break apt API and ABI (don't checked);

>  - this patch definitely requires thorough review and testing;

Here it is a matter of the weightings. The flipside is without this
fixed:

 - Almost certainly a significant number of users will run into this
issue during the lifetime of Lenny (the history is 5-10 bugs/year; plus
an unknown and likely large number of people who do not report it since
they see it has already been reported and therefore presume work has
already begun on fixing it).
 - This complicates debugging, as it escalates otherwise harmless issues
to major severity (see #400768; while certainly an otherwise unrelated
bug, if the MMap issue wasn't present, this bug would never have caused
any problems).
 - It is quite likely that upon upgrading to a version of Debian after
Lenny, APT will again break due to this issue and again have to include
a major warning in the release notes.

 - As far as actual impact of the change we still do not know. Despite
knowing about the first problem for at least 5 years (#178623 is the
oldest report I have found), and knowing that it was still very
definitely an issue for a minimum of nearly 2 years (#400768); we still
do not have anything but rough guestimates. It might be that this is the
time your estimate is wildly wrong, but we do not know since no patch has
ever been tried. Why not try this in experimental? Then we would have
real experience to judge how much work it will take to fix.

> I don't think this would be acceptable by release team.

Too a point I think I can summarize your position as: It is too dangerous
to fix this in Lenny.

Correspondingly I can summarize my position as: It is too dangerous NOT
to fix in Lenny.

There is no clearly right answer here. The issue is which will damage
Debian more; delaying the release, or releasing with another serious
issue?

> Elliott, reason for this bug is apt architecture. Do you think we can easily
> change architecture of the core package at freeze stage?

I have made no such claims. I am merely stating that this is a serious
bug. Severe enough to seriously consider delaying the release. This is
what the release team gets to decide, which is worse (neither option is
good)?

Yet, since you've got an initial patch, why not put that out in
experimental? It might be found that fixing it isn't anywhere near as bad
as you thought. Even though it changes the API/ABI, if no one has ever
touched that field, the impact on other packages will be zero. Perhaps
the release team will decide it is worth delaying the release, in which
case a head start in testing will be of great value. Perhaps some other
issue will force a delay of the release, in which case the extra time
might allow sufficient testing.

Bug#498243: xine-lib: multiple heap overflows

2008-10-25 Thread David Moreno
tags 498243 + upstream
severity 498243 important
stop

Issues 3A-3G haven't been addressed yet by Xine, not even in release
1.1.15, tagging upstream.

As Reinhard Tartler suggests, the severity can be downgraded now; the
remaining issues subjected "unexpected process termination and other
issues" are not considered to be grave-wise anymore since they are not
representing security holes exposing user data or data loss, but only
random different problems prone to unexpected crashes or segmentation
faults: 'important' severity.

2008-10-25 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
[Ben Hutchings]
> This bug is not fixed; the init script is still broken.

I had a look at the script in unstable, and it seem to me that it
isn't using pidofproc() from /lib/lsb/init-functions as I believed,
but pidof:

  case "$1" in
start)
log_begin_msg "Starting portmap daemon..."
pid=`pidof portmap`
if [ -n "$pid" ] ; then
  log_begin_msg "Already running."
  log_end_msg 0
  exit 0
fi

Thus the 'start' option isn't using the pid file. This should be
fixed.

Happy hacking,

There are very few cases in which a root process should fail to be able to
change uids. The main one is a ulimit restriction.

Have you restarted samba from your shell at some point prior to this? If
so, what does 'ulimit -u' show when run from your shell?

attached to the build-in SATA controller, bound together usind mdadm RAID.

If the BIOS option "SATA AHCI Mode" is set to "AHCI", then at least short
(haven't tried the others) self-tests get stuck, sitting at 90% remaining for
weeks. I think they complete eventually.

If option is set to "Disabled", then short self-tests complete in a minute or
two, as the drive predicts.

Interestingly, Seagate SeaTools (run off a bootable CDROM) does not see the
disks at all unless the setting is "Disabled".

Please let me know what additional information I can provide.

Thanks for your hard work on Debian.

Bug#503438: cupsys: ipp printing leaves job in queue

2008-10-25 Thread Karl O. Pinc
Package: cupsys
Version: 1.2.7-4etch5
Severity: normal

Hi,

I'm running a thin-client. The box running the apps sends print jobs
(and graphics to the Xserver) to the box on my desk. The box
on my desk has a hp laserjet 1100 connected via parallel port.
The box running the apps is running the printer driver, whatever
it is that does all the processing, and sending raw print output
via ipp to the box on my desk for printing. (Both running cups
of course.)

When I use xsane to "copy", producing a print job, the job seems
to print correctly but remains in the queue. FWIW, something
simple like 'echo foo | lpr' prints and disappears from the queue,
as does printing a text document with nothing in it but 'foo'
from OpenOffice.

/var/log/cups/error_log says:

E [25/Oct/2008:06:28:52 -0500] PID 29137 (/usr/lib/cups/backend/ipp) crashed on

The jobs below have all printed, successfully as far as I can
tell.

On the box running the apps:
 Device: ipp

On the box on the desk:
 Device: LPT #1
 Make: HP
 Model/Driver: HP Laserjet 1100 -- CUPS+Gutenprint v5.0.0 (en)

So, all the heavy processing appears to be done on the box
running the apps, and the box on the desk just prints.

Let me know if you need further information.

Thanks.

Bug#473892: desktop-base: about debian item in the gnome system menu

They don't appear here either because you install them in completely the
wrong directory for them to be seen by freedesktop-compliant desktop
systems like KDE/GNOME/XFCE/etc. They also don't contain any categories,
which are needed to put them in the right place in the menu.

I imagine the stuff in /usr/share/desktop-base/profiles is completely
the wrong place too, unless xdg and kde are patched to look there.

It is possible that the fix I used for the "lvalue required as increment
operand" error is quite wrong, since it doesn't increment the pointer,
and a result of that might be the crash. Here is a random google result
about the error:

http://groups.google.com.bz/group/comp.lang.c/msg/bde1c31e563e26c3

I'm using the mingw packages from Debian lenny:

dpkg -l | grep mingw
ii mingw32 4.2.1.dfsg-1 Minimalist
GNU win32 (cross) compiler
ii mingw32-binutils 2.18.50-20080109-1 Minimalist
GNU win32 (cross) binutils
ii mingw32-runtime 3.13-1 Minimalist
GNU win32 (cross) runtime

Newer GCC versions are generally stricter with bad C syntax.

Thanks for this.
However FSlint already has a full German translation, as can be seen at:
https://translations.launchpad.net/fslint/trunk/+pots/fslint/

Unfortunately the debian mentors project seems deficient,
and updated versions of FSlint are not getting into debian.
Thus you may be seeing an old version FSlint.

If you have any improvements, please update launchpad,
and they will be included in the next release.

thanks again,
Pádraig.

This is _still_ a problem in 3.0pl1-100, as I just watched it happen
(CEST -> CET end of daylight savings time).
If there has been a patch for 2 years, and it's confirmed fixed upstream
for half a year now, why is there not a fixed version in Debian?

Epiphany-webkit is consistantly crashing trying to load google calendar

I note i have to put in my login details, so I'm assuming that -webkit
and -gecko use different login storing databases.

-gecko auto inserts my details into the login screen and successfully
logs in.

I'm cautious about attaching a backtrace, as it may include my
authentication details, but i'm willing to try and attach a cleaned
backtrace.

The latest virtualenv (1.3) has a "--relocatable" option that does
pretty much what you want. I've merged it in my Bazaar repo, but
haven't uploaded packages for it yet. If you're impatient, you can pull
it from here:

Bug#503434: Iceweasel default homepage gives false "outdated" warning

2008-10-25 Thread maybeway36
Package: iceweasel
Version: 3.0.3-2
Severity: minor

The default start page of Iceweasel in Debian lenny and sid is
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/granparadiso/, the Gran Paradiso start
page. This page was intended to be used for the alpha version of
Firefox 3. As such, it now displays a warning:

This version is now obsolete. For your own safety and security, please
install an updated version.

This message is clearly intended for users of the alpha version, while
Debian uses up-to-date stable version 3.0.3.
I suggest the default start page be changed, either to one hosted on
Debian servers or simply www.debian.org.

I was having crash-on-startup issues with Iceweasel 3 on PowerPC,
especially the RC builds from Experimental. Happily, these crashes
seemed to go away about the time that Iceweasel 3 was added to Unstable.

Checking some logs, it seems that my bug was #482415 and I got it
working in message 188:

Bug#503433: Dependency on php5

2008-10-25 Thread Franck Joncourt
Package: zabbix-frontend-php
Version: 1:1.6-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

In debian control, the dependencies for the zabbix-frontend-php package
are as following:

..., php5 | php5-mysql | php5-pgsql, ...

Thus having none of them installed on my system, I only get php5
installed, although I have zabbix-server-mysql setup. However, what I
need in order to run the zabbix frontend is php5-mysql.

Debconf allows me to choose either a mysql or a pgsql database, so I
think one of php5-mysql or php5-pgsql should be installed, and php5
should be removed from the dependencies.

What do you think ?

Regards,

Bug#503432: grub aborts with "no module name found"

2008-10-25 Thread Robert Millan
Package: win32-loader
Version: 0.6.8
Severity: serious

Builds of win32-loader using latest grub-pc from lenny abort with
"no module name found".

The problem depends only on the version of grub-pc used to build it, and
has been introduced at an undetermined time after win32-loader 0.6.6,
which I believe used grub-pc 1.96+20080429-1 to build.

It went undetected because 0.6.7 and 0.6.8 were only tested on win98 (which
is unaffected as it doesn't use grub).

I'll be doing a regression test to trace this down.

Charles Plessy wrote:

Yes, the latest iceweasel (3.0.3-2) crashes on the Alpha architecture. I am running an up-to-date
Lenny system.

I've CCed this to Bob Tracy since he has done quite a bit of work trying to track down the problem,,
that is reported in the debian-alpha mail list. He may wish to comment further.

Bob compiled vanilla 3.0.3 firefox sources, and I compiled 3.0.3-g1 icecat sources for testing
(mainly because iceweasel was still back at 3.0.1 at the time). These also crash. For me the
symptom is that the browser window opens on the screen and then immediately disappears again with
the crash.

Both Bob and I got working versions of firefox and icecat, respectively, with a static link of the
xul stuff, using --no-relax in the link stage, and disabling optimisation. The following messages
from debian-alpha mail list discussion are the most relevant.

Can you save the output of the command 'dpkg -l' on your system, send it to me
(in private if you want to preserve your privacy), and tell me if you installed
third-party software?

Yes, I have quite a lot of self-compiled software, mainly multimedia stuff, installed in /usr/local
directories.

Bug#502550: Kernel Parameter 'nosmp' makes the cow fly

2008-10-25 Thread Peter
Hi Kernel team,

I tried different kernel parameter, the 'nosmp' addition made the system

It has a T3200 processor, all I found out about ut is:

The Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual-Core Mobile Processor T3200 is a dual core

family.
CPU speed: 2.00GHz

Sorry for not replying before. The reasons for not including this are:
- it adds hard dep on dbus, which we don't want(ed) for 4.4
- upstream didn't want it, for the reason above, and because it needed
to be rewritten anyway.

But this feature will be added in 4.6 (based on the ubuntu patch, fwiw),

Bug#503401: More info about the exploit. Current status.

2008-10-25 Thread Raúl Sánchez Siles
  Hello All:

Jan, thanks a lot for this bug report. Indeed the problem is present in
3.4.0 but not in 3.4.2. Unfortunately, 3.4.2 was not released in time to
include it into Lenny.

A fix was applied meanwhile: https://svn.kvirc.de/kvirc/changeset/1997
fixing a bug, https://svn.kvirc.de/kvirc/ticket/97 which apparently was a
different problem and wasn't tagged as too serious.

Anyway, this bug just applies in the case that kvirc would be the default
irc handler. So far, I think this is not the case in Debian, possible due to
another bug. I'm still researching how this bug affects to Debian and it's
severity. Up to now I haven't seen anything strange, but I guess I'm not
triggering the bug yet.

Having said this, I'm working in a patch for the bug, which I hope could be
uploaded soon.

  Thanks.

Bug#501423: please unblock loudmouth 1.4.2-2 / reschedule gossip 1:0.31-1

2008-10-25 Thread Stefano Zacchiroli
Hi,

loudmouth 1.4.2-2 is needed in testing to let gossip (which is in
testing already) have all its needed build-deps. See #501423.

There was an additional bug blocking loudmouth, #494940, which has
been fixed by Löic 5 days ago. Since then loudmouth has been rebuilt
everywhere and is apparently read to transition.

Can you please unblock loudmouth 1.4.2-2, so that build-deps of gossip
get satisfied in lenny, and then reschedule building in testing of
gossip/1:0.31-1?

FWIW, I do have tried building gossip in lenny against loudmouth
1.4.2-2 and it worked fine.

TIA,
Cheers.

Bug#473892: desktop-base: about debian item in the gnome system menu

2008-10-25 Thread Yves-Alexis Perez
I guess we could ship a .desktop file with a link to some descriptive
text. Currently we ship three .desktop files with links to debian
homepage, security and reference. They don't appear in my Xfce system
but maybe they appear in GNOME menu?

Bug#503430: shorewall-perl: Fails to recognise short FQDNs in rules

2008-10-25 Thread Chris Carr
Package: shorewall-perl
Version: 4.0.14-1
Severity: normal

Hi there,

When parsing /etc/shorewall/rules, shorewall allows this one:

ACCEPT net:something.myserver.org fw tcp 993

but not this one:

ACCEPT net:myserver.org fw tcp 993

The error message in /var/log/shorewall-init.log is:

   ERROR: Unknown Interface (myserver.org) : /etc/shorewall/rules
(line 400)

For some reason it is treating one-dot FQDNs as interface names, and
two-dot FQDNs as normal.

Regards,

Chris

Bug#501969: details and possible patch

2008-10-25 Thread Kieran Maclean

The issue is present on machines such as this using lilo as the bootloader.

It can also be reproduced on the same hardware by installing the etch.5
kernel onto a clean etch install.

The issue seems to be that the initramfs init script is passed the
device number for the disk by lilo as the root= argument and creates a
node in /dev (/dev/root) based on this.

It then proceeds to attempt to mount this device as /root.
Since the kernel has not yet finished detecting all devices this fails.
The kernel then finishes detecting all devices and detects the root device.

When using a clean install of lenny on the machine, the machine
successfully boots, since the race condition is avoided by the default
lilo.conf containing the argument
append="rootdelay=10"
which delays the attempt to mount the root device.

A more preferable work around is to specify in the lilo config
append="root=/dev/sda1"
which overrides the lilo supplied root= argument, and causes a different
path to be followed though the init script, this path detects that the
/dev/sda1 device has not yet been created by udev and waits for that to
happen, before then successfully mounting the root device and continuing
to boot.

Since this behaviour is explicitly more stable as it removes the race
condition by waiting for the device to be created, I have created a
patch to the init scripts provided by initramfs-tools which emulates the
above behaviour but supporting the lilo root= argument type.

The patch waits for a device to be created which matches the device
number passed in by lilo when the device is created, it sets the root
device to the device it has detected to allow that to be mounted.
Further should the device not be created within the specified delay it
will create the device and allow the mount to be attempted on that.

AFAICT, the bug you were referring to from #501423 was #494940, which
now is fixed. Is that correct?

Hence, gossip just need a hint to enter testing, it was needing just 2
days, 4 are elapsed, but of course it is blocked by the freeze.

Bug#476891: Man page doesn't include new options about Recommended packages

2008-10-25 Thread Alberto
severity 476891 seriuos

*Alberto* wrote:
> Please update the man page of APT, including the new behavior about

In my humble opinion this lack in the manpage of apt would have to be
considered very important, because the man is the primary source of
information of the command line options/switches of a computer program.
In addiction, apt is one of the most important parts of a Debian
system. Then, it should be documented well.
Moreover, the new default policy about recommended packages could
surprise an old Debian user, accustomed with the previous behaviour.
For this reason, I think could be a good idea to include even only a
little sentence about this in the man.
Even if the apt-get program works well, I think that this bug should be
considered carefully for a stable version as the upcoming lenny. In
this sense, I think that this problem is a "soft" release blocker.
Currently, I'm not able to modify a manpage, but I can help the
maintainers to write the new parts to be included in the man of
apt-get.
Feel free to contact me directly for this reason. I will try to help
you as I can to fix this issue.
Thank you for your time.

P.S.: I searched the web, but I was not able to find the complete
explanation of the "--fix-policy" switch.

Bug#503426: usplash-theme-debian: theme stops after 2 seconds fall back on text

2008-10-25 Thread Daniel Gasser
Package: usplash-theme-debian
Version: 4
Severity: important

The usplash theme starts working for about 2-5 seconds. After that, the
animation on the debian text first stops moving, the picture gets a
littel distorted as well, then the splash theme disappears. After that
booting continues on text console like without any splash theme set.
Last boot messages shown on the splash theme are:
waiting for /dev to be fully populated
starting ALSA card 1
starting ALS card 0

The theme perfectly works on shutdown, though.

If i add vga=xxx on the grub boot line, the splash theme breaks at the
same point. After that, no text console is shown. The screen just shows
some bumping green squares. This happens, no matter what screen
resolution is set in the vga parameter. Adding "splash" on the boot line
doesn't help either.

My system is a IBM R32 laptop. Graphics card is (lspci output):
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M6 LY

It's not like it crashes after every request or every day so I cannot

Please remove swfdec0.7 from the archives, currently on experimental, it has
been superseded by swfdec0.8, 0.7 version was only a development series, 0.8
is the version that has evolved from it and has already been uploaded and is
waiting to be installed.

We still have version 0.6 (the old stable version) around because some of
the packages using 0.6 have not yet been ported to 0.8, please leave it
there for now, I'll ask for its removal when all packages depending on it
have been ported to 0.8.

Regards.

Bug#503422: cabber: does not set the correct terminal mode on error exit

2008-10-25 Thread Russell Coker
Package: cabber
Version: 0.4.0-test5-2.1
Severity: normal

When I have cabber configured for the wrong password it will abort without
fixing the terminal mode. Echo is turned off and blind typing "reset" is
necessary to get the terminal working again.

Also displaying a fragment of XML to report a basic error such as
unauthorised is not good for usability.

Bug#496506: Known bug in Ubuntu?

2008-10-25 Thread Colin Turner
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi,

I've hit this problem myself.

I found Ubuntu seems to be looking at this

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/coherence/+bug/278790

and refers to a workaround here:

http://coherence.beebits.net/wiki/RhythmBox#JontysNotesJuly13th2008

I've done this and can confirm gupnp tools now see rhythmbox. I can also
see and play tracks across the network with my n800. However, what I
was really looking for was for rhythmbox to detect other upnp servers
and offer to play material on them. That still seems not to work, but it
is hard to know since I have no idea what I should see.

Thanks for all your work,

CT.

Bug#492185: caudium: new package available that closes this bug

2008-10-25 Thread Henrik Andreasson
Package: caudium
Version: 3:1.4.12-11

I tried to upload to mentors but I think the newer upstream version already

So I've put the newer 1.4.12 at:

So this is the version I'd like help to sponsor/upload (it also closes #503223

Bug#503419: etch->lenny: libvte-common not upgraded because of unmet dep for libvte4

2008-10-25 Thread Giovanni Rapagnani

Package: libvte4
Version: 1:0.12.2-5

System: Xen image - i386 - Kernel 2.6.18-6-xen-686

Hi,

During the upgrade form etch to lenny (aptitude full-upgrade), the following
situation occurs:

- libvte-common is not upgraded for not breaking the dependency needed by
libvte4
- libvte4 remains installed
- libvte9 is installed

After doing a second 'aptitude full-upgrade', the following situation occurs:
- libvte4 is deinstalled
- libvte-common is then upgraded.

I don't know if libvte9 is a full replacement for libvte4. In this case, maybe
adding the info 'Replaces: libvte4 (<=1:0.12.2-5)' in the package libvte9 will
in the first 'aptitude full-upgrade' run :

- remove libvte4
- install libvte9
- upgrade libvte-common

Giovanni.

Mark,

I downloaded kipi-plugins_0.1.6-1_amd64.deb, installed fine into Lenny. The
issue of not being able to create albums with spaces in the names is fixed now.
You can still only create and add to public albums still however. Choosing to
create a private album fails and they can not be seen to add photos to.

Bug#497789: security bug on iceweasel

2008-10-25 Thread Luca Bruno
Ciao,

In particolare sotto quali condizioni hai riscontrato
illustrarmelo meglio?

Grazie, Luca

(Basically asking for a more complete report in Italian, hoping that's
easier to understand)

Bug#449497: foo2zjs: application depends on non-free firmware

2008-10-25 Thread Michael Gilbert
severity 449497 serious
tag 449497 -wishlist
thank you

ok, my point is that dependencies on external data/files are
potentially dangerous. if the maintainer of the upstream site makes
changes (as has been done in the past with foo2zjs), then the package
no longer works as intended. if someone replaces the upstream files
with malicious code, then you have a security issue. both of these
problems are normally considered grave, and for good reason -- hence
this is a grave problem as well. why would you risk exposing users to
these problems if you can take steps now to eliminate them?

debian main should have no external dependencies (that is what contrib
is for). and maybe the text of the debian policy doesn't make this
100% clear right now, but it is within its spirit. if it is too easy
to misinterpret the intent, then the wording should be updated for
clarity.

it is my belief that the getweb script must be removed from the package.

Bug#503416: wmifinfo: [PATCH] improper usage of struct timeval

2008-10-25 Thread Julien BLACHE
Package: wmifinfo
Version: 0.09-4
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Hi,

A bug report on lkml shed light on a programming error in wmifinfo, see

The tv_usec member of struct timeval must be in [0; 100[, and wmifinfo
currently sets it to 100. (was 500 in the case reported above)

Patch attached, please apply.

Also, please drop x-dev from the Build-Depends; it's unneeded and actually
doesn't pull in anything useful for the build of wmifinfo, it's just cluttering
the Build-Depends and forces more packages to be fetched and installed than is
necessary.

Thanks,

JB.
