Bug#481953: lseek does its job very slow
Dirk Griesbach [EMAIL PROTECTED] (19/05/2008): The versions of mutt after 1.5.17-1 do need much more time to initially read a mail. Header caching is enabled. I did some testing with time and strace. The folder I tested the stuff with is an maildir with roughly 37000 Mails. Hello, could you please give 1.5.18 a shot so that I know whether I should report that to upstream? I could be testing on a several 10k mbox, but I don't really want to downgrade to 1.5.17 since I rely on .18+custom features for my day to day work. That'd be appreciated. Bug#499897: preventing replay attacks against the security archive
Quoting Eugene V. Lyubimkin ([EMAIL PROTECTED]): doesn't allow seeing previous Release files while deciding accept or decline just downloaded one - apt ABI bump may be needed. And this is also another pain for Christian, we just done last (we hope) translation changes for apt. Well, between a potential security issue and pain for APT localizers, I think the choice is clear. In short, don't count APT localization as a blockr for this issue if it is wished for lenny. I will of course appreciate to have the opportunity to give translators a translation update window. I propose that what we currently have in the debian-sid bzr branch is uploaded for lenny, then, *if the prevent replay attacks patch is chosen for lenny* to immediately apply it in that debian-sid bzr branch and I launch a short translation update round for the 10 days needed for the former version to reach testing. I came back on the proposed patch after Joerg revived the discussion about this bug. Quoting Thomas Viehmann ([EMAIL PROTECTED]): + if (_config-FindB(Acquire::Check-Valid-Until, true)) { + if (time(NULL) MetaIndexParser-GetValidUntil()) { + _error-Warning(string(Release file expired, ignoring +RealURI).c_str()); + return false; + } + } + WRT i18n, the patch is incorrect, imho. It assumes that the ignored URL is to come after the ignoring word. Strings concatenation is nearly always a bad idea as the sentence structure might be different in other languages. My programming skills are low enough to not allow me to produce the right patch, but I think that something using %s in the localizable string would make it. Hopefully, everybody reading this will understand what I mean here..:-) It would also be good to put a translators comment to explain translators that %s is a URL. + if (! The mask stays rwx as for directory and file is executable what is bad in my opinion - why files created in Windows should be executable? getfacl test.txt ### Empty text file created in Windows # file: test.txt # owner: hrubsa # group: hrubsa user::rwx group::rwx group:tls:rwx group:ptls:r-x mask::rwx other::--- Relevant part of smb.conf: read only = No create mask = 0666 security mask = 0666 inherit acls = Yes map acl inherit = Yes map archive = No map readonly = no store dos attributes = Yes wide links = No After setting inherit acls = No, the create/security mask were applied to standard unix permissions, but not on ACL entries. getfacl test2.txt # file: test2.txt # owner: hrubsa # group: hrubsa user::rw- group::rw- group:tls:rwx group:ptls:r-x mask::rwx other::rw- -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-6-amd64 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#506222: open-vm-toolbox: vmware-user does not work correctly, mouse trapped, in vmware window
Tong, You only have the 'open-vm-tools' package installed, which does not include X11-specific features. Try again after installing 'open-vm-toolbox' package and making sure the vmware-user application is running in your X11 session; does this fix the problem? As for the mounting problem, what happens if you try mounting hgfs using the regular mount binary instead of calling vmware-hgfsmounter directly? Try something like mount -t vmhgfs .host:/ /mnt/hgfs; does that work? If not, can you confirm that the 'vmhgfs' kernel module is located somewhere in your kernel tree (in /lib/modules/`uname -r`) and that 'modprobe vmhgfs' finds and loads the module? Also, double check that you've got the 'open-vm-source' package installed and that its kernel modules have been built via module-assistant. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#506740: libwbxml2-0: SyncML with embedded DevInf has wrong DevInf version
Package: libwbxml2-0 Version: 0.9.2-6 Severity: normal SyncML sometimes need to embed the device information into a message. The device information is an own document. The actual package always embeds the device information document with version 1.2. The resulting document is simply wrong if the wrapping document is not SyncML 1.2. Several devices like all actual Nokia S40 models and several Sony-Ericsson mobiles with the proprietary OS from Sony-Ericsson fail on such documents. This means that the library does not work for more than 50 percent of the potentially usable mobiles. So the severity of this bug is serious. Please notice that reportbug downgraded the severity automatically because I don't know the Debian policy manual section IDs. Bug#504233: Reproducable in this case
# Jan, I take your mail as a confirmation of the bug # Next time you should do it yourself :-) tags 504233 confirmed thanks 2008/11/24 Jan Hauke Rahm [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Hi, I was able to reproduce this issue with your package. As it turns out svn sets the file on Ignore and I don't know why yet, or how to avoid. If I recall correctly, svn doesn't ignores hidden files by default (nor vim's temporary files). Ansgar, Jan, what does this command return? grep global-ignores ~/.subversion/config If that has an ignore pattern that matches your ignored file then we found the cause. If that is NOT true, probably the issue is that some shell command used is skipping hidden files by default (e.g.: grep does this). Not sure which one would that be, 'though. So I don't have a solution but maybe it's enough for others to just point me in the right direction... :) Let's see if we can do that now :-) . -- Regards, EddyP = Imagination is more important than knowledge A.Einstein -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#506482: [Pkg-lyx-devel] Bug#506482: Regression: shift+select no longer works in math mode
Sorry forgot the attach. Also, apologies for the bug expiring but I don't always get to these as quickly as I'd like. I noticed it with a wide variety of files. Attached is a simple file. I open it from the command line. The cursor starts at the far left. I hold shift and press End. It then correctly selects the math and the text after it. Without releasing shift, I type leftarrow. It deselects everything. Now I hit HOME then LEFT, to get back to the start. Pressing RIGHT once, I get inside the math expression. From there, I can hold SHIFT and hit End. The result is correct, it selects all the math but not outside it. Still holding shift, hit LEFT. Instead of deselecting one char, it again loses all selection. I also notice that I can no longer use arrow keys in just plain files without math mode, to do selection with SHIFT. In that I was in the middle of a set, upgraded everything for an unrelated reason, restarted LyX, and the problem started, I'm quite certain the behavior changed. It seems that SHIFT + home/end works just fine but the arrows don't. Let me know if you need anything else to reproduce it. Alex Georg Baum wrote: Am Sonntag, 23. Bug#506482: [Pkg-lyx-devel] Bug#506482: Bug#506482: Regression: shift+select no longer works in math mode
On Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 03:49:48AM -0800, Alex Roper wrote: Hi, I noticed it with a wide variety of files. Attached is a simple file. I open it from the command line. The cursor starts at the far left. I hold shift and press End. It then correctly selects the math and the text after it. Without releasing shift, I type leftarrow. It deselects everything. It's only deselecting the last character here and works fine (aswell as the rest). I'm wondering if there's maybe something fishy in your local configuration. Maybe you can move away your ~/.lyx and let LyX 1.6 create a fresh one. Bug#499629: Is it possible to move the -doc packages in texlive-latex-extra to Suggests?
Hi, we're currently suggesting texlive-latex-extra for LyX but with the latest version the LyX the documentation requires parts of texlive-latex-extra to work. We're now considering to at least Recommend texlive-latex-extra but that would get most people to pull in the 76MB texlive-latex-extra-doc aswell since apt and aptitude pull in recommends automatically these days. This is a bit unfortunate even today with broadband internet and cheap disks. Is there a special reason for you to recommend the -doc package? Similar problem with other packages from texlive-extra but there the -doc packages are not that big. Do you see a chance to move the -doc packages down to suggests? Bug#506711: kernel-package: [sparc] no longer produces compressed kernels for linux-2.6

Now, what kernel-package thinks is the architecture is taken from either a) user specified value, b) dpkg-architecture -qDEB_HOST_ARCH_CPU If the architecture contains the string sparc, then we arrange to gzip the image. If this is not happening, we need to determine if it tried to compress, but compressed the wong file, or it did not try to compress it at all, or if the actual image is in some other place. If the build logs for the kernel image show which of these scenarios it is, it can be easily fixed. So the build log of the kernel image would be useful. The latest log is at http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=linux-2.6;ver=2.6.26-10;arch=sparc;stamp=1226181471 but beware; it contains binary data not well handled by (at least my) iceweasel. Bug#501688: dh-make-perl ignoring build_requires in Makefile.PL
-=| Damyan Ivanov, Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 09:28:46PM +0200 |=- I'll review the two commits and merge them in out tree. Done. There were a couple of merge conflicts as there were changes in the code. Also, I managed to screw some of the merges. A test suite would have been indeed handy. Additionally, for Git-loving parties, there is a Git mirror of dh-make-perl at http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-perl/apps/dh-make-perl.git The mirror updates in the Subversion post-commit hook (only if a change in dh-make-perl is detected). Note that the mirror is intented to be used as a read-only source. git-svn should be used for committing in the subversion repository from your local git clone. The 'master' branch tracks Subversion trunk. Note to debian-perl: this is just for convenience. You can safely continue to use the subversion repository, which remains the cannonical place to work with. Experiments with the git clone are welcome of course :) -- damJabberID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#506746: e16: critical Event propagation problem with BBO
Package: e16 Version: 0.16.8.13-4 Severity: normal Hello, with current e16 version there is a critical Event problem, with the BBO window launched through Wine. Everything was ok with e16 previous version. Bug#506734: Support for fast shutdown in dnsmasq daemon
Simon Kelley wrote: AFAICS that is the the only difference between the Ubuntu and Debian packages, is that still correct? Yes, I just merged 2.46-1 and that's the only delta left. There's a theoretical worst-case that sees dnsmasq take 3.5 seconds to respond to SIGTERM. Is that likely to be a problem? sendsigs apparently waits 10 seconds after SIGTERM before sending SIGKILL to the remaining processes, so I'd say that's not an issue. BTW, Thierry, I have a fix to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dnsmasq/+bug/291186 which is in http://thekelleys.org.uk/dnsmasq/test-releases/dnsmasq-2.47test1.tar.gz Cool, thanks for the pointer ! keep up the great work, -- Thierry -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#506747: udev causes several hundred lines of noise
Package: aide Version: 0.13.1-10 Severity: normal Tags: patch Hi, after every reboot aide reports 400 changed files. These have the form: changed: /dev/.udev/names/vcsa6/\x2fclass\x2fvc\x2fvcsa6 since recent udev stores the path to the devices sysfs representation there. Attached patch fixes this by escaping the backslashes in the find expression of 70_aide_dev properly. Additionally it escapes dots to not cause false matches. The bug probably deserves higher severity since it makes aide mostly unusable in lenny on systems using udev. Unfortunately, this does not seem to be possible. It would make mutt even better if this feature could be added. could you be a bit more specific? All those operations seem to work fine with my 'postponed' Maildir. Any weird setup maybe? not that I'm aware of. I have no settings in my .muttrc that pertain to postponed. As I said, I can not search my postponed folder. Eg. I press 'm' to write a new mail, then I get asked if I want to recall one from my postponed folder. If I say 'yes' to this question, I get a listing of mails in my postponed folder, but except for navigating to one of them and selecting it, no other operation is possible. Eg. I can't first filter for all mails I ever started to write to you, but have to manually sift through the folder until I recognize your name or email address (often shortened in the display), or the subject. I can then press 'enter' to select that message, and be thrown into my editor to manipulate the message, or quit and chose to postpone it again (or throw it away). But the usual searching and/or limiting of messages that is possible when I regularly visit a folder, is not possible this way. Of course, I can search the folder if I enter it with eg. $ mutt -f postponed -- Kind regards, --Toni++ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#506740: libwbxml2-0: SyncML with embedded DevInf has wrong DevInf version
Hi, On Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 12:36:04PM +0100, Michael Bell wrote: SyncML sometimes need to embed the device information into a message. The attached patch fixes the problem and sets the DevInf version according to the version of the wrapping SyncML message. Thanks for the patch. My current plan is to upload a new wbxml2_0.9.2-7 to unstable targetted for lenny/5.0 and reverting the patch 08-maxsize-translation-table.patch from the last upload (which is not yet in lenny/5.0). Rationale for this is that 08-maxsize-translation-table.patch would also needed to be acked by the release team, but (as I understand it) is not a critical patch. So we would essentially just have 09-devinf-doctype.patch to get acked. A new upstream release including 08-maxsize-translation-table.patch will then hopefully soon get uploaded to unstable. If you believe that 08-maxsize-translation-table.patch is indeed critical (or very important) as well, and can write up some rationale for it, I will try to get both acked for lenny/5.0. Bug#505249: original root cause found
Stumbling upon #506373 led me to find the root cause: my calendars are were corrupt (from the point of view of utf-8 cleanliness) because of the fact that Evolution processes correctly the various MIME parts that make up a foreign invitation, EXCEPT the charset part. This is the reason why the calendars ended up with a mixture of utf-8 and latin9. The proper fix for this bug, of course, is to bleach again any entry about to be copied. I suggest that each ticket gets validated from the point of view of utf8ness, and if fails, the default encoding (as applied in the mail view preferences) be attempted instead. Official unknown character characters should be put in place if all fails, so that the copy receives only valid utf-8 (as it should be). Alternatively, another way of seeing the proper fix is to treat the copy operation as a stricly GIGO operation, letting the correction of the mess up to better times. Point is, there should NEVER be silent aborts like currently. -- Cyrille -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
