Bug#522604: hpijs: Cannot print borderless on 4x6 paper anymore

2009-04-05 Thread Julien Valroff
Package: hpijs
Version: 3.9.2-3
Severity: normal

Hi,

I used to be able to print borderless on 4x6 paper using my PSC2610 printer.

I could do this directly from The GIMP using a custom paper size and choosing
the
correct printout mode and quality.
Before that, I had to export my picture to PS and use lp to send the PS to a
special
print queue, with 4x6 papersize and correct printout mode selected in the CUPS
options.

Now, none of these methods work any more. The printer begins printing at the
end of the
4x6 paper (on a +/-1cm band only), all the rest of the paper is blank.

This happens with both methods.

Printing a 4x6 picture on DIN-A4 paper (8.5x11) work perfectly.

I have no idea what other information I can provide to try and debug this
issue, and I am
not even sure this is a problem with hpijs. I have already tried downgrading to
the etch versions:
hplip/hpijs, cups, libgnomeprint with no success (not alltogether though, which
might help?).

Cheers,
Julien

Bug#520789: [hplip] hp-toolbox needs package python-qt4-dbus

2009-04-05 Thread Julien Valroff

Utility hp-toolbox needs package python-qt4-dbus to be installed,
otherwise following error will be thrown:
[...]
hplip suggests hplip-gui which depends on python-qt4-dbus, this dependency is
 obviously too week.

hplip should depend on hplip-gui or directly on python-qt4-dbus.

I am not sure to understand what you mean as hp-toolbox is part of the
hplip-gui package which depends on python-qt4-dbus.

However, even with python-qt4-dbus installed, I have the same problem:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File /usr/bin/hp-toolbox, line 246, in module
from ui4.devmgr5 import DevMgr5
File /usr/share/hplip/ui4/devmgr5.py, line 45, in module
from dbus.mainloop.qt import DBusQtMainLoop
ImportError: No module named qt

I have tried installing python-qt4-dbus from experimental, but same problem.

I guess this bug should be moved to hplip-gui and retitled - I let this
up to the maintainers' choice.

Cheers,
Julien

Bug#522605: xserver-xorg-video-mga: Fatal server error: xf86MapDomainMem(): mmap() failure

2009-04-05 Thread Shaddy Baddah

Package: xserver-xorg-video-mga
Version: 1:1.4.9.dfsg-1
Severity: important

I've got a Sun Ultra 10 and am trying to throw up a second GDM login/X
display via a Matrox Millennium (rev 1) PCI card I've inserted into a
free PCI slot.

I've configured GDM to start a second X server (please see included
gdm.conf file) and set debugging to be enabled (all via gdmsetup, just
to be clean).

However, I cannot get the second X server to run, either on boot up, or
/etc/init.d/gdm restart. The /var/log/Xorg.1.log (full file included
below) craps out with (I have deliberately included the warning, as it
seems pertinent):

...
(==) MGA(0): MMIO registers at 0x10
(--) MGA(0): BIOS at 0x100
(II) Attempted to read BIOS 128KB from
/sys/bus/pci/devices/:02:03.0/rom: got 0KB

(WW) MGA(0): Video BIOS info block not detected!

Fatal server error:
xf86MapDomainMem():  mmap() failure

--

At the sane time this occurs, I see the following error repeat on the
console:

PCI: Cannot allocate resource (bogus alignment) 6
1ff0100:1ff0100] (flags 6200) of :02:03.0

---

My understanding from
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=500358 is that X on
sparc was basket-cased except for the builtin cards of various 64 bit
sparc systems. However, I really hope that a case-by-case approach is
taken to work through all these types of problems.

Bug#522498: doesn't allow offline messages/impossible to comunicate with invisible contacts

There is a button on the chat window toolbar called Allow Offline
Messaging, which should help you do that. In any case, I guess we
either should be enabling that by default or at least detect if
someone who is offline (i.e. invisible) has messaged us and then
enable the offline chat button accordingly.

Do you mean the button with the tooltip Allow? :P
(the icon is a pencil writing on a paper)

You could definitely improve that tooltip, and enabling it by default
would make more sense, people do indeed message people who are offline
(they might be invisible).

BTW, I notice that some buttons are too small to show the entire text
(ex. Preferences... - Sound - Files: the buttons show only the first 4
letters and half of the fifth, the Cancel button shows only Cance and
the text is not centered vertically -- too low).

I'm using Xfce 4.6 (default theme), but it was the same under 4.4.2
(also default theme).

letters and half of the fifth, the Cancel button shows only Cance and
the text is not centered vertically -- too low).

I agree, a lot of work still needs to be done on the UI front. I'm
trying to clean up things one at a time. I'll include this as well in
my TODO list (which seems to only be growing at the moment).

Thanks

Bug#522593: Acknowledgement (mod-security-common: ModSecurity requires mod_unique_id to be installed.)

2009-04-05 Thread Todd A. Jacobs
Just to clarify, things work as expected if I manually run a2enmod and
select unique_id. However, most of the other Apache 2.x modules either
automagically install themselves, or prompt the administrator to enable
them.

The point is that there's a functional dependency on mod_unique_id that
should be made clear (or better yet, resolved) during package
installation, rather than at runtime.

Bug#522607: ayttm: Insert Smiley button does nothing

Yes, this is a known issue. Smileys will not load till you start
chatting with your buddy. This is because ayttm uses the concept of
fallback messaging, which transparently switches protocols to use the
most suitable one for chatting between two contacts. This means that
the first time you open a window to chat with a friend, ayttm doesn't
know which protocol to use till you send your first message. I guess
we should be selecting the protocol earlier or at least load a default
smiley set.

Send one message to your buddy and then click on the smileys button.
That should work.

Well for starters, if you can make pretty smiley pixmaps/icons in PNG
as opposed to the XPMs we already have, that would be great. We also
need some serious UI guys to look at the user interface.

Of course, these bug reports help a lot as well, so keep them coming

flag to configure to either force or suppress a direct link to the
Kerberos libraries and the result is therefore dependent on the build
 environment.

I guess this is --with-gssapi.

I'm not sure whether we want this on or off. If no one has missed this
before now, I guess the generic SASL GSSAPI interface works just fine and we
should probably disable it?

So it works fine only for root.

This is true. It doesn’t only affect fgconsole, but also chvt, openvt
and any other kbd utility which tries to get a console file descriptor.
These programs do their job by trying to open/ioctl these files (in this
order):

/proc/self/fd/0 (is a pseudo tty in your case)
/dev/tty(also PTY)
/dev/tty0 (only accessible to root)
/dev/vc/0 (doesn’t exist nowadays)
/dev/console(root)
std{in,out,err} (PTY)

As none of these is able to respond to a VT_GETSTATE ioctl, fgconsole
and friends fail. I’m afraid this situation won’t change.

Have a look at sudo if you need unprivileged users to run these
utilities in a secure manner.

All the best,

This was when printing from the Gimp. Custom paper size set for 4x6

I cannot use a pre-defined paper size as choosing either Photo or 4x6
inch index card or Photo with tear-off tab doesn't allow me to print
a 4x6 photo (might be another bug, as the print size is limited to
4.411x2.117 inches, and I can only see a part of the photo in GIMP print
preview).

Cheers,

I am not sure these are related, but prefer stating it here anyway.

Bug#521293: sdcc-nf: New upstream release

2009-04-05 Thread Gudjon I. Gudjonsson
Hi again
I have been working on the package but it will most probably take another
week. I do have an unofficial package on my private server

deb-src http://195.198.146.229/debian/ source/
deb http://195.198.146.229/debian/ i386/

Please use it for testing. I will remove it as soon at it is uploaded to
Debian.

Bug#468328: urjtag status

2009-04-05 Thread Matt Taggart
Any update on the status of the urjtag ITP?

I have also been looking at the HairyDairyMaid jtag utility available from

http://downloads.openwrt.org/utils/

It seems to support more chips than the old openwince-jtag does, but do you
know if urjtag can do the same things?

Either way it might be useful to have both in the archive.

Bug#522226: xserver-xorg-video-intel: screen briefly flashes/flickers a few times an hour

2009-04-05 Thread David Härdeman

On Sat, Apr 04, 2009 at 08:13:52PM -0400, Sanjoy Mahajan wrote:

I'm pretty certain that what you're seeing is already reported upstream:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17805

I just read through that thread. It looks similar but I'm not too sure.
The reports there were of the whole display blanking for a (short)
while. Mine doesn't go blank. Instead a portion of it jitters rapidly
sideways, then recovers (all under 0.1 seconds). Seen out of the corner
of the eye, it looks like a flash.

I'm guessing that the exact behaviour is dependent on the display
hardware. I've seen the same problem manifest itself in slightly
different ways when I've had the same computer (with the same driver)
hooked up to a couple of different TV's via HDMI. Some react like the
HDMI cable had been physically disconnected and reconnected while at
least one TV never showed any (visible) problems at all...

I'll either wait for a new driver to make it into Debian unstable, or
compile 2.5.1 + patch myself. Is it reasonable to try the version in
'experimental'? That seems like it would be a big change to the xorg
file or package layout, so I was a bit worried about using those
packages.

I'm using the intel driver from the experimental repo on a system
otherwise using unstable without any ill effects. The problem is that
even the experimental version is too old (2.6.1). Upstream has had a
large number of bug fixes since then (most importantly to me - XV
tearing fixes and the sync fixes we're discussing right now), so I'm
hoping a more recent version will appear in experimental or unstable
soon.

Bug#522615: network-manager: mobile broadband connection not shown in menu

2009-04-05 Thread Paul Menzel
Subject: network-manager: mobile broadband connection not shown in menu
Package: network-manager
Version: 0.7.0.99-1
Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***

Dear Debian folks,

I try to set up an Option UMTS modem [1].

The driver hso is loaded

$ lsmod
Module Size Used by
hso35092 0
rfkill 11908 2 hso

and the devices are created

$ ls -l /dev/ttyH*
crw-rw 1 root dialout 249, 0 5. Apr 11:41 /dev/ttyHS0
crw-rw 1 root dialout 249, 1 5. Apr 11:41 /dev/ttyHS1
crw-rw 1 root dialout 249, 2 5. Apr 11:41 /dev/ttyHS2

I created a mobile broadband connection right clicking the applet,
choosing mobile broadband, add, insert some values, apply. This
connection is shown then in the connection editor. But left clicking on
the applet this connection is not shown in contrary to [1].

The user is in the dialout group, but not netdev, but PolicyKit is
installed so according to README.Debian this should not be the problem.

Do you have an idea, what might be causing this bug?

Thanks,

Paul

Altough there's a link for it, in the Enum class and in the Bounded class.

this is a haddock bug, and due to the fact that they share a type

It seems it has been fixed by upstream’s haddock as used on hackage:

Bug#522266: Gnome-Keyring problem

2009-04-05 Thread Joachim Breitner
Hi,

I can confirm this problem. Although gnome-keyring-manager --start is
executed by the gnome session manager, which can be seen
in .xsession-errors by this entry:
GNOME_KEYRING_SOCKET=/tmp/keyring-kqwr1i/socket

the daemon seems to quit itself right afterwards. Other programs, in my
case mail-notification, will spit error messages like
** (mail-notification:6248): WARNING **: couldn't connect to daemon at
$GNOME_KEYRING_SOCKET: /tmp/keyring-kqwr1i/socket: Verbindungsaufbau abgelehnt
** (mail-notification:6248): WARNING **: couldn't communicate with gnome
keyring daemon via dbus: Failed to execute program gnome-keyring-daemon: Success
and not work properly.

Starting gnome-keyring-manager also gives these error messages. For some
reason, dbus can not start the gnome-keyring-daemon, it seems.

OTOH, starting gnome-keyring-daemon --start manually from a terminal
makes it work properly. Applications still say
** (gnome-keyring-manager:6737): WARNING **: couldn't connect to daemon at
$GNOME_KEYRING_SOCKET: /tmp/keyring-kqwr1i/socket: Verbindungsaufbau abgelehnt
but it seems they manage to talk to the running daemon via dbus.

I’d rate this bug as important, as it severely impacts the usefulness of
the package.

Greetings,
Joachim

Bug#522350: Pidgin Crashes Immediately on open

2009-04-05 Thread Geoffrey Sisson
I'm seeing the same problem. I did a dist-upgrade of unstable on
April 3rd and now any attempt to start a jabber session causes pidgin
to SEGV in __xmlRaiseError in libxml2 (2.6.32.dfsg-5). Specifically, at
line 612 of error.c in libxml2, schannel is called with what appears to
be a bad function pointer. As a workaround, I set a breakpoint at
line 611, set schannel = 0 on each break, and pidgin goes on to
run normally. Here's a backtrace of the SEGV (using libxml2-dbg,
libgtk2.0-0-dbg, libglib2.0-0-dbg, libssl0.9.8-dbg and pidgin-dbg).
I can't really go any further with this but hopefully this will be
of help.

2009-04-05 Thread Eduard Bloch
#include hallo.h

Based on the patch of Josh Triplett, I made some adjustments (mostly to
remove lintian warnings). I uploaded it to http://mentors.debian.net.

It could be nice to have a review and an upload, as it'll fix most of
the bugs of mkvtoolnix on the bug tracker.

Wanna get it into main? Upgrade to 2.6.x and I will NMU it.

Regards,
Eduard.

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I intend to orphan the kpogre package, it is currently mantained inside the
kde extras team but it lacks of a proper primary maintainer.

You do not need to maintain it inside the kde extras team, but it is usually
better to maintain packages inside a team.

The package description is:
KPoGre is a GUI tool for PostgreSQL, using libpqxx library.
 .
 Features:
  * Browsing through PostgreSQL system catalog
  * Wizards for create, modify and drop database objects
  * Wizards for database administration tasks (backup, restore, vacuum, analyze)
  * Wizards for changing access privileges
  * SQL Query/result windows, for editing and executing SQL
statements and viewing result
  * Datatable windows for edit database tables content
  * Executor windows for run database functions
 .
libpqxx is the official C++ client API for PostgreSQL.

Bug#522529: New Results

2009-04-05 Thread Christoph Egger
After digging around a bit I noticed the traces are largely
useless as there is a lot of inlining happening at the affected
code. If placing noopt into DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS there seems to be no
crash anymore.

Manually following the actions indicate some problem in
DoSPZone - (AIR)PORT -- I'll follow up later

Bug#522594: Reproducible

Hi,

I can reproduce this bug, even with a recompiled package. You can
circumvent it by deleting /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstladspa.so
library, but you will lose its functionality.

Bug#522623: lintian: false positive incorrect-libdir-in-la-file when using python-central

2009-04-05 Thread Jonas Smedegaard
Package: lintian
Version: 2.2.9
Severity: important

When using python-central to handle Python packages potentially targeted
for multiple Python versions, library files are moved to a central
location and replaced with symlinks at install time.

Lintian complains with the following:

E: python-sugar-toolkit-0.84: incorrect-libdir-in-la-file
usr/share/pyshared/sugar/_sugarext.la /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/sugar !=
/usr/share/pyshared/sugar

I believe that error is wrong, as python-central adds symlinks at
install time which makes the .la file paths work properly at runtime -
even if they are missing in the package itself.

Setting severity as important, as ftpmasters reject packages based on
this lintian judgement (i.e. sugar-toolkit on april 1st).

essential, because more and more MoBo coming up without serial I/O and more
people using addon IO Cards. On the other hand perhaps a good HAL part for

Hello Cody,

Anyway, the next couple of reboots worked fine, until I tried to run a
bootchart. I added init=/sbin/bootchartd to the appropiate place in menu.lst
in /boot/grub/ and rebooted (a note, bootchart was running fine before the
hal reinstall) - I can't get past booting now, X, gdm, hal and pretty much
every other package fail to initialize in a massive string of errors most of
which say 'rm: cannot remove .

This sound like bootchart.

(I can't ever see the .. it scrolls away too quickly).

You can press Ctrl+s to stop the messages and Ctrl+q to reenable them.

Which version of bootchart do you use?

Do you use an initrd?

What's your shell, i.e. where points the link /bin/sh to?

I can't find any of these messages in any of the log files in /var/log/ and
have no idea what I can to try and fix this - nor do I have any idea which
log I should submit to assist with investigating this. I've run a live USB
install which has allowed me to remove the init=/sbin/bootchartd from grub,

Doesn't grub allow you to give the init command at the promt, i.e.
start the kernel with init=/sbin/init?

 but this makes no difference...

So, that's not a problem of bootchart. If you disable bootchart and
still have problems, it might something else that causes your problems.
But let's see.

Bye, Jörg.

Bug#522625: system-config-lvm: Doesn't start, related to modprobing dm_mod

2009-04-05 Thread Wolf Wiegand
Package: system-config-lvm
Version: 1.1.4-3
Severity: normal

Hi,

system-config-lvm does not start anymore:

# system-config-lvm

That's it, nothing else happens. This seems to be caused by /sbin/modprobe
dm_mod /usr/share/... and the use of su-to-root:

# su-to-root -X -c /sbin/modprobe dm_mod echo modprobe succeeded
#

Whereas:

# /sbin/modprobe dm_mod echo modprobe succeeded
modprobe succeeded

So if I start s-c-l like this:

# /sbin/modprobe dm_mod /usr/share/system-config-lvm/system-config-lvm.py

everything works alright.

Bug#522626: iceweasel-firebug: Making it work again

2009-04-05 Thread Tobias Frost
Package: iceweasel-firebug
Version: 1.3.3-1
Severity: normal

I just switched to another computer, and there it was reproduceable.
Maybe the additional informations are helpful:

- Iceweasel thoguht, that it has Version 1.07 installed.
- Uninstalling firebug with dpkg did not help. Iceweasel still thought it had
1.07 installed.
- Then I Uninstalled via iceweasel - AddOns, the entry was removed from the
installed AddOns page.
- Purgind and Reinstallation of the debian package finally then fixed the
issue. Now it works.

Maybe the most important hint is, that Iceweasel thought it had another version
installed.
Why, I don't know.

I only installed firebug only from debian packages.

taken to work through all these types of problems.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'case by case approach'. What exact
kernel are you running (contents of /proc/version)?

First up, contents of /proc/version:

Linux version 2.6.26-1-sparc64 (Debian 2.6.26-13lenny2)
(da...@debian.org) (gcc version 4.1.3 20080704 (prerelease) (Debian

In terms of case by case approach, I followed the bug around the time
that it was raised/addressed. Here is a summary of my understanding:
 * from message #119, Bastian Blank of the kernel team downgraded the
severity of a let's call it generic X.org on sparc problem, stating:

'There is only a small fraction of machines affected, so this is not RC.'

 * my reading is that he was persuaded to give the bug a greater
severity when it was intimated that MACH64 being broken on lenny was
going to cause a problem for (paraphrasing) a large fraction of Sun
Ultra 5/10 owners, because that is the onboard video card.
 * but for this exception, it read that X.org brokenness on sparc
seemed to be not a critical issue to any stable Debian release.
 * my scenario does not fall within the exception. I am trying to (as
message #126 words it) assemble a unique set of components will not work
together well.
 * except that I believe that as xserver-xorg-video-mga is provided for
sparc, I should be able to expect that adding a MGA card is a reasonable
thing to do. It doesn't have to work first go, I'm not having a whinge
about that. I am just pre-empting the bug being considered not important
because of what I read as a blanket policy. That's what I mean by case
by case consideration.

Actually, I am sorry to have started off on the wrong foot, and would
like to apologise. I am happy not to pre-empt anything and just let the
collective you handle it appropriately.

Thanks in advance,
Shaddy

Bug#522632: libglib2.0-0: SIGBUG in g_utf16_to_utf8

2009-04-05 Thread BERTRAND Joël
Package: libglib2.0-0

Justification: renders package unusable

Hello,

I'm trying to build seamonkey 1.1.15 from sources (I don't like
iceweasel,
I prefered iceape, and note that iceweasel hangs with a SIGBUS too).

I have fixed some misalignments in seamonkey sources (specially in
nsTextFrame.cpp). Now, when I launch seamonkey, I obtain a beautiful SIGBUS that
comes from libglib :

weird, i would have expected things to work with that version, since the
problematic kernel change was reverted for lenny. maybe it's a
different bug after all?

because of what I read as a blanket policy. That's what I mean by case
 by case consideration.

so here's a summary of my understanding:
- Xorg 1.5 handles access to the pci bus all by itself
- that code has a bug, which got exposed by a kernel change which was
necessary to make pci-express based sparcs work
- Xorg = 1.5 let the kernel handle access to the pci bus, so the bug
doesn't apply to newer versions
- the kernel change was reverted for lenny r0 to make X work again, but
will be reinstated for r1 because breaking pci-express machines is not
acceptable, and X will fall back to the fbdev driver instead of going
through pci, in an attempt to start up anyway.

So your case with 2 X servers is probably not going to work with that
workaround, and I'm not sure how to make it work with the X version in
lenny, unfortunately. Patches welcome, though...

Cheers,
Julien

TF The plugin for iceweasel does not work, as iceweasel deactivates it,
tellinf it is not compatible to iceweasel 3.0.7-1.

TF If installed from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1843, the
plugin works.

Bug#522626: iceweasel-firebug: Making it work again

TF Package: iceweasel-firebug

TF I just switched to another computer, and there it was reproduceable.
TF Maybe the additional informations are helpful:

TF - Iceweasel thoguht, that it has Version 1.07 installed.
TF - Uninstalling firebug with dpkg did not help. Iceweasel still thought it
had 1.07 installed.

I think that you use firebug which was installed as user's plugin.
Please try to create a new profile for iceweasel (You can temporary
remove/rename your ~/.mozilla directory).

TF - Then I Uninstalled via iceweasel - AddOns, the entry was removed from
the installed AddOns page.
TF - Purgind and Reinstallation of the debian package finally then fixed the
issue. Now it works.
see above :)

TF Maybe the most important hint is, that Iceweasel thought it had another
version installed.
TF Why, I don't know.

Plugins which were installed by user into the ~/.mozilla directory are
act plugins which were installed by root. This is not a bug, this is
feature of iceweasel/firefox :)

TF I only installed firebug only from debian packages.

Bug#522608: hal: loosing keyboard settings, apparently not updating the cache

I had very similar issue, only a

Should be fixed.
We have a dpkg file trigger which will automatically refresh the cache
whenever a new fdi file under /usr/share/hal/fdi is installed.

I'm not sure, what more we can do about this within hal.

Do you remember if this hal trigger was activated or not?

Or did you manually edit a file in /usr/share/hal/fdi?

Please describe your problem more detailed.

Thanks,
Michael

Bug#521494: libpci 3.1 dependency

2009-04-05 Thread Natanael Arndt
Sascha Herrmann wrote:
The current version of pommed in squeeze won't start because of an to old
libpci3 package. Starting pommed fails with the message:

pommed: /usr/lib/libpci.so.3: version `LIBPCI_3.1' not found (required by
 pommed)

The pommed package depends on libpci3, which actual version in squeeze
 (1:3.0.3-2) only provides libpci.so.3.0.3.

Julien, could you change the dependency to 3.1, so pomme will not update
automaticly until libpci 3.1 is in testing?

be blessed

this is a regression, since the link is gone.

Right, the original bug report and the entirety of the subsequent
provided patch seems bogus. Barry, could you do an upload reverting the
whole diff from this report?

thanks,

Done, sorry about that.

 more eyeballs is certainly appreciated.

Sounds good. I use all cdbs for all my packages, so it will get some
testing both with those that do and don't use desktop files.
