device of stdin. Could it be that you are using a pty in /dev/pts/
when bootlogd fail?
What is the output from the 'tty' command before the call to bootlogd

As far as I can see, this is a bug in libnss-ldap, failing to return
quickly when the network is down or the ldap server is unavailable.
It can not be soled in sysvinit, as sysvinit is just calling the
required glibc functions to do its job.

The extra \ next to the s in the URLs used by cddb-tool also breaks
the Musicbrainz freedb server. I arrived at the same patch and MB
