I was using a somewhat non-standard vga=0x376 (AMD RS780 chipset graphics),
which is not supported by grub2 (grub2 apparently uses a hardcoded list
of vesa modes for vga= parsing which have nothing to do with the mode which

libtheora currently FTBFS on hurd-i386 and kfreebsd-* due to symbol
versioning. The attached patches fix it by making libtheora use just
the same symbol versioning as on linux, since all of them use the same
GNU linker.
I can't replicate this behavior. Are you sure Pidgin is spiking? Can you
try to get a backtrace in gdb when it's using 100% CPU?
