I tried moving kde to .kde-old, and logging in again but that didn't help.
I finally tracked down the problem: XDG_DATA_DIRS environment variable was
empty which caused a number of applications to not function correctly in KDE
(pidgin not finding its icons, openbox not findings the themes, etc.).

Hello,
I have similar problem with "Nimbus Sans L" font, which is always
displayed condensed only (and also worked before fine). Trying to change
it in the Format->Character->Font, it only offers the condensed variants.
But other programs in my system see the regular format of that font.

It should be possible to reproduce the bug in 1.7.6.3-1 that that
patch fixed by simply reinstalling git 1.7.6.3-1
I found out I have ibus-daemon (with anthy) launched on both machines
which suffer from bug. And when I kill ibus-daemon those freezes disappears.
`top' launched in backgroud shows large cpu usage of both mousepad and
ibus-daemon.
Tests attached.
