Please do use it (eg: depend on it, and use it in your rules file). I will not sponsor any new package that isn't using it because of a valid reason. It is otherwise too hard to maintain in a consistent way. Note also that we believe using pkg-php-tools should be a release goal for the team. Unfortunately, PECL support in pkg-php-tools is not ready (#706980). Help is welcome: I want a proper solution that run phpize and then let core debhelper (Debian::Debhelper::Buildsystem::autoconf) do the usual configure/make/make install (see [pecl-phpize]). This requires changing the sourcedir. [pecl-phpize]: http://www.php.net/manual/en/install.pecl.phpize.php Besides this, you don't need to do a case in your postinst and postrm. if [ ${1} = configure ] || [ ${1} = reconfigure ] ; then is enough, IMO, if you don't use the other values (your script will be shorter, so easier to read). Checking for unknown arguments has very little value. Anyway, pkg-php-tools must be taking care of that, no? (I have never packaged nor reviewed PECL extensions... others may tell more about it) Haven't thought about that, but yes: pkg-php-tools should add the a2enmod/a2dismod snipset on PECL packages. Bug#709846: synaptic: Download status column vanishes when downloads begin
On Sat, May 25, 2013 at 08:14:02PM -0400, Alex Vanderpol wrote: Package: synaptic Version: 0.80.1 Severity: minor Thanks for your bugreport. Dear Maintainer, I suspect recent GTK3 updates may be the cause of this issue. After the recent updates, when viewing the download progress of individual files, the Status column where the progress bars for the individual files would appear vanishes the moment the first file begins downloading, however it can be seen briefly during the short span of time between applying changes (or reloading the package lists) and when the first file actually begins downloading. This happens regardless of what GTK3 theme I use, including the default (Adwaita) theme. I'm not sure if this is a bug specifically in Synaptic or if it affects any GTK3 application that draws progress bars in columns, as I don't know of any other GTK3 applications that do such a thing to check if this problem affects them as well. (The only application I'm aware of that does this on my system uses GTK2 and still works fine.) The GTK3 widget factory application in gtk-3-examples does not appear to demo this particular widget. I wasn't able to reproduce this here in my (not fully up-to-date) box. Attached is a small gtk3 python app that will show a progress bar, let me know if that works for you. Now I installed Debian 7.0.0 amd64 and the speed drops below 1x if I burn more then one Bluray at the same time. For a Test I install Debian 7.0.0 i386 minimal without X11 and I get the same. regards Winfried root@bluray:/mnt/etc# lsscsi [0:0:0:0]diskATA ST31000524AS JC45 /dev/sda [1:0:0:0]cd/dvd HL-DT-ST BD-RE BH10LS30 1.01 /dev/sr0 [2:0:0:0]diskATA MAXTOR STM325082 3.AA /dev/sdb [3:0:0:0]cd/dvd HL-DT-ST BD-RE BH10LS30 1.01 /dev/sr1 [4:0:0:0]cd/dvd HL-DT-ST BD-RE BH10LS30 1.01 /dev/sr2 [5:0:0:0]cd/dvd HL-DT-ST BD-RE BH10LS30 1.01 /dev/sr3 -- System Information: Debian Release: 7.0 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-4-686-pae (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages dvd+rw-tools depends on: ii genisoimage 9:1.1.11-2 ii growisofs7.1-10 ii libc62.13-38 ii libgcc1 1:4.7.2-5 ii libstdc++6 4.7.2-5 dvd+rw-tools recommends no packages. Bug#700287: [neverball] French: Save Replay translated to Sauver un film
Regarding replay, I'd rather not replace it with film but you should ask the French people of Neverball's community. film is the current translation. I am not against changing it, but if we change it, other strings will have to change too. I believe we should wait for more input at this point. Oops. Indeed I do prefer replay. Typing replay+fr on google.fr shows that that word is broadly used by French speakers. I'm ok with waiting for more input. Bug#708996: supertuxkart keeps crashing randomly and one of the sprites is mangled

Also one of the sprites/karts the monkey Suzanne is horribly mangled. In like June of last year I was using Debian Sid with supertuxkart version 0.7.3 and it worked just fine without any issues. Maybe consider recompiling a slightly older/newer patch of version 0.7.3 and replacing it with what's now in Wheezy. This is a known issue, see #619071, #677609, #695747 (and the dozen or so bugs on launchpad, for ubuntu) for the crashes and #679837 for Suzanne being incorrectly rendered. I'll prepare a backport of stk 0.8 for wheezy users soon. Of course, if you're willing to dig into this further, I'd gladly accept non-intrusive patches (i.e. acceptable for a stable update) to fix whatever's causing this issue in irrlicht/stk. Regards, Vincent Like in early June of 2012 when I used STK 0.7.3 from Sid it worked perfectly. Wouldn't the simplest solution be to just replace the current version of STK 0.7.3 with the one that was in Sid in like June 2012? Or are there dependency or security issues I'm missing here? It took a few months for anyone to discover stk 0.7.3 had any stability issues and to report it (I certainly didn't, and wouldn't have uploaded stk 0.7.3 if I had caught this in my testing). FWIW, the diff between 0.7.3-1 and -2 is misleadingly large; the only change that took place between the stk version that I uploaded to Sid in June 2012 (0.7.3-1) and the current version in wheezy (0.7.3-2) is that the build system was switched from autotools to cmake, which I highly doubt caused this issue. In other words, I feel fairly confident in saying that it's only a matter of time before you hit the same issue with stk 0.7.3-1. Regards, Vincent I never had any problems with 0.7.3-1 or whatever the version was circa May/June 2012. As far as the switch from autotools to cmake I also sincerely doubt that has anything whatsoever to do with it. My guess is that more likely you got a corrupted download from somewhere upstream and perhaps may not have verified it properly. This is probably no fault of your own nor of the Debian infrastructure as I'm not sure if the STK site provides checksums or signatures you can use to verify the download. It could also be quite possible they pushed out a buggy 0.7.3 but I had no problems with it either with Debian Sid nor from Fedora Rawhide so I'm not sure what to think. No, it's not a corrupted download. I always check any tarballs I download from SourceForge with the checksums they provide, i.e. you'll see that the md5 hashsums at [1] (click on the i icon next to supertuxkart-0.8-src.tar.bz2) and [2] match. My point still stands; I'm quite sure that supertuxkart 0.7.3 as was uploaded to sid in May of 2012 was also affected by this issue. You can even run a diff between 0.7.3-1 (first version uploaded to sid in may) and 0.7.3-2 (current version in wheezy) if you'd like, and you'd see that there weren't any major changes aside from the switch from autotools to cmake (which is why the diff is so bloated). The root issue is likely something to do with irrlicht, but since upstream now refuses to support building with a system copy of irrlicht (they now only support the use of the embedded/forked copy of irrlicht in their source tarball), I'm afraid there's nothing I can do about this. Supertuxkart 0.8 should show up in wheezy-backports soon though. :) Regards, Vincent [1] http://sourceforge.net/projects/supertuxkart/files/SuperTuxKart/0.8/ [2] http://packages.debian.org/source/unstable/supertuxkart -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#709926: icu
Upstream is working on config. options to enable/disable ICU ( probably Graphite2) support, hence we would be able to build the normal deb with those two, and the udeb without them. We can apply something like the attached patch (untested) since the icu sources are only built conditionally. Then we need to build harfbuzz twice, once for the udeb with --with-icu=no, and one for the deb flavor. The debian-installer page seemed like a better (initial) place to advert it. Yes, this was my first thought, too. But on the debian-installer page, we also don't have the live images listed for example. While on the distrib page, they are listed. So the distrib seems a bit more generic IMHO and therefore I thought it fits for the win32 installation method as well. Bug#709106: [Pkg-alsa-devel] Bug#709106: [alsa-utils] speaker-test, aplay fail cryptically (unable to open slave)
* Filipus Klutiero chea...@gmail.com [2013-05-26 18:02 -0400]: reopen 709106 thanks Hi Elimar, [...] A bug report should only be closed when the bug has been resolved. To be honest, which bug? I cant figure out a bug in alsa-utils. If you don't know how to fix a bug, simply leave the report open. Some users don't know how to report æ bug. If you believe a bug cannot be fixed, the report can be tagged wontfix (which is very rarely appropriate). There is no bug to fix. In this case, there are apparently 2 ways to make progress: 1. If, as your reply implies, the chip is not supported, support can be introduced. As an experienced Open Source user you must know that package mainatiners are not responsible for writíng new drivers. You must ask alsa-devel when and in which kernel version the mentioned chip will be supported. I can support you if you let me know which chip type is affected. I can then give you some hints on how to ask alsa-devel when support will be available. As it is a driver problem we can reassign your bug to Debian kernel package as a whishlist item but that won't force the development of a driver. 2. In my case, where the problematic chip is not the only one and another chip works fine, another chip can be made the default. How to do that is briefly described in the Debian documentaion of the alsa-base package which was pointed out 2 times in the past. Hello, On Mon, May 27, 2013 at 10:40 AM, Hilko Bengen ben...@debian.org wrote: The run_jar() function in /usr/lib/java-wrappers/java-wrappers.sh contains the following lines: if locate_jar $1; then shift run_java -jar $@ else java_fail Unable to find jar $1 in $JAVA_JARPATH fi If locate_jar() finds the specified JAR file, it places the path into $found_jar, but its result is not used. A lot of Ubuntu packages emit this warning on build: dpkg-deb: warning: 'package/DEBIAN/control' contains user-defined field 'Original-Maintainer' dpkg-deb: warning: ignoring 1 warning about the control file(s) In Ubuntu we encourage the use of XSBC-Original-Maintainer, thus we shouldn't warn about it. I thought this was Ubuntu specific, but was told that I should file a bug upstream for inclusion instead. So I'm sending a patch to add Original-Maintainer as a known header field in debian/control. -- David Henningsson, Canonical Ltd. https://launchpad.net/~diwic -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#705364: perl-5.18-transition?
Why is this bug tagged perl-5.18-transition (cf. http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?tag=perl-5.18-transition;users=debian-p...@lists.debian.org )? The buildd errors (as well as the mentioned commits to upstream source) are in the Ruby bindings (and were actually caused by changes to the Subversion core). Cheers, Roderich

* Andreas Beckmann a...@debian.org, 2013-05-27, 05:49: From the attached log (scroll to the bottom...): Preparing to replace python-gsw 3.0.1-1 (using .../python-gsw_3.0.1-2_all.deb) ... Unpacking replacement python-gsw ... dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/python-gsw_3.0.1-2_all.deb (--unpack): unable to install new version of `/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gsw-3.0.1.egg-info/dependency_links.txt': No such file or directory Errors were encountered while processing: /var/cache/apt/archives/python-gsw_3.0.1-2_all.deb This is a rather unusual instance of dpkg won't replace symlinks-to-directories with directories problem. It's unusual, because if you look at each package separately, there are only symlinks to files, which are supposed to be safe: 3.0.1-1 ships: /usr/share/pyshared/gsw-3.0.1.egg-info /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gsw-3.0.1.egg-info - ../../../share/pyshared/gsw-3.0.1.egg-info 3.0.1-2 ships: /usr/share/pyshared/gsw-3.0.1.egg-info/ /usr/share/pyshared/gsw-3.0.1.egg-info/dependency_links.txt /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gsw-3.0.1.egg-info/ /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gsw-3.0.1.egg-info/dependency_links.txt - ../../../../share/pyshared/gsw-3.0.1.egg-info/dependency_links.txt This is what happens then dpkg upgrades 3.0.1-1 - 3.0.1-2: 1) It replaces /usr/share/pyshared/gsw-3.0.1.egg-info (a regular file) with a directory. 2) It DOESN'T replace /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gsw-3.0.1.egg-info with a directory, because it's now a symlink to a directory. 3) It follows the symlink when creating /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gsw-3.0.1.egg-info/dependency_links.txt. So you end up with two files (/usr/share/pyshared/gsw-3.0.1.egg-info/dependency_links.txt and /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gsw-3.0.1.egg-info/dependency_links.txt) installed under the same name. This makes dpkg unhappy. Okay, so why .egg-info suddenly became a directory? It's because of this fragment of setup.py: | try: | from setuptools import setup | from setuptools.command.sdist import sdist | except ImportError: | from distutils.core import setup | from distutils.command.sdist import sdist Setuptools creates .egg-info as a directory (putting some extra metadata there), while distutils always creates .egg-info as a file. Apparently 3.0.1-2 was built in a non-minimal environment which had python-setuptools installed. -- Jakub Wilk -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#476707: Requesting removal of aterm from Debian?
Hi, I suggest to remove aterm from Debian: * Orphaned since 2008 * No more upstream-development (Upstream writes[1]: aterm is deprecated and in a maintenance mode only; there will be no further updates.) * No UTF-8 or Unicode support * Upstream recommends[1] to use rxvt-unicode instead (which is what replaced aterm for me, too) The only reason which prevented me from filing the removal request immediately is aterm's Popcon values[2], which raised from 600 to 1000 half a year ago, after steadily going down for years. Bug#709997: RM: remember-el -- ROM; obsoleted by emacs23
Package: ftp.debian.org Severity: normal The remember-el package's main purpose is to ship remember.el, an Emacs add-on that is part of Emacs itself since version 23. It also ships an assortment of glue add-ons for planner-el, bbdb, etc but these are likely to be outdated as the last upstream upload was in 2006. So I think we should remove this package from the archive. Note: I'm not the maintainer but a previous sponsor, and also the last person to NMU this package (in 2009). As far as I know, both listed uploaders have been inactive in Debian for years. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#709947: move libunwind7 to / on ia64/wheezy?
Hi, in stable, fsck.ext* fails on ia64 when /usr is not on the / filesystem[0]. One option to fix this would be moving the lib from /usr/lib* to /lib* on ia64. If you agree that is a good option, could you, Daigo and/or Matthieu, prepare an upload for stable and coordinate an update with the stable release folks?
