Bug#768012: unblock: quassel/0.10.0-2.1

2014-11-05 Thread Salvatore Bonaccorso
Hi Release Team, hi Thomas

This unblock request cannot be done this way anymore as there was a
new upstream version upload to unstable, which also does not seem to
contain the fix, see https://bugs.debian.org/766962#68 (commit
8b5ecd226f9208af3074b33d3b7cf5e14f55b138 upstream is only after the
0.11.0 release).

I would like to see this fixed also in Jessie, as we did already
DSA-3063-1 for wheezy.

Can you either accept and unblock of another upload of quassel to
unstable, say 1:0.10.0-2.1 (or prepared by Thomas, so not using a NMU
version numbering) or would you prefer an upload trough tpu?

I'm also Cc'ing Thomas Mueller maintainer of quassel.

Regards,
Salvatore

Andreas,

both opendnssec-enforcer-sqlite3 and opendnssec-enforcer-mysql uses
dpkg-maintscript-helper to replace the symlink with directory:

ondrej@lettie:~/Projects/pkg-nlnetlabs/opendnssec/debian (master)$ cat
opendnssec-enforcer-mysql.maintscript
symlink_to_dir /usr/share/doc/opendnssec-enforcer-mysql/

symlink_to_dir /usr/share/doc/opendnssec-enforcer-sqlite3/
/usr/share/doc/opendnssec-common/ 1:1.4.6-2~ -- "$@"

Is there anything else I can do? Or is there something else wrong? I am
not sure what to do better here.

Bug#768256: vim-gui-common: GNOME's "open with" menu displays a huge vim icon rendering the menu unusable

2014-11-05 Thread Raphaël Hertzog
Package: vim-gui-common
Version: 2:7.4.488-1
Severity: important

On a freshly installed Jessie system where you install "vim-gnome" (and/or
likely vim-gtk too), when you right click on a text file in nautilus and
then open the "open with" sub-menu, you will see a huge vim icon taking
almost the full screen and rendering the sub-menu useless.

I believe that the problem lies in the fact that you ship a .desktop
file vim "Icon=vim" but you don't ship any icon for that in the
standardized place:
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/*/apps/vim.png
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/vim.svg

Here are the files present on my system:
$ dpkg -S vim.png
gnome-accessibility-themes: /usr/share/icons/HighContrast/22x22/apps/vim.png
gnome-accessibility-themes: /usr/share/icons/HighContrast/24x24/apps/vim.png
gnome-accessibility-themes: /usr/share/icons/HighContrast/16x16/apps/vim.png

gnome-accessibility-themes: /usr/share/icons/HighContrast/32x32/apps/vim.png
$ dpkg -S vim.svg
vim-gui-common: /usr/share/pixmaps/vim.svg

Please fix this for Jessie as it really looks unprofessionnal.

Bug#768121: laptop-mode-tools: Ethernet module should check for carrier before changing link speed

That part is executed only if you instruct LMT to completely disable the
ethernet, when you switch to battery. The setting for it is:
DISABLE_ETHERNET_ON_BATTERY=1

No. That's why I said. I believe I have the same hardware.
0f:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.
RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 0c)

But honestly, I haven't used the ethernet since the last time I
installed on the laptop.

Yeah!! I need to investigate the cause. But like you know, many a times
it is the device drivers' bugs that end up reporting the wrong status.

I don't see that working. Did you check the report back with ethtool ?
It still says the old speed and settings.

I am really confused here. But I'd be willing to take a patch if you

I noticed that #767945 didn't come with a debdiff as requested by the
freeze policy, so attaching a diff between the version in testing
(340.46-3) and in sid (340.46-4).

Yes, apt seems to be missing that on some of the file descriptors it
sets up. See below for a test case:

You can also feel free to commit straight to Git.

I just uploaded your changes. I'll wait for updating the bug against
release.d.o to make sure all will be fine. Since I'm a bit AFK the next
three days feel free to ping yourself release.d.o that the package is OK
now and they might consider unblocking.

Thanks for your work on this package

Bug#746054: Linking Twinkle against OpenSSL

2014-11-05 Thread Rolf Leggewie
Dear Michel,

thank you for providing twinkle as a FOSS software. My name is Rolf
Leggewie, I've been a long-time user and for many years it has been the
only software that was actually working with my setup while others
consistently failed.

I contact you with regards to https://bugs.debian.org/746054 The easy
fix for that is to add libssl-dev to the compile-time dependencies to
make sure the software can be compiled against OpenSSL. Debian as a
project is of the opinion that linking GPL-licensed software against
OpenSSL is a copyright violation. You are the copyright holder of
twinkle and if you are OK with your software being compiled against
OpenSSL and the results distributed under GPL, then there is no problem
and nothing further to be done. May I ask what is your position on this
matter?

https://www.openssl.org/support/faq.html#LEGAL2

Regards

Rolf

thanks to you.

> (At 'critical' severity, should that be aged a bit or left to test?)

By nature this package is not heavily tested since you do not create
metapackages every day. The problem also only occures if it happens
that you keep non-free or unstable in your sources.list.d dir -
otherwise everything is fine (the problem did not showed up for years).

So I do not see any reason for an additional waiting period.

Thanks for your work on the Debian release

   Andreas.

Bug#768250: RM: php-symfony-icu -- ROM; Deprecated upstream, features included in symfony

2014-11-05 Thread David Prévot
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Hi,

symfony 2.3.21+dfsg-1 dropped the (build-)dependency on php-symfony-icu,
making this package now useless. Furthermore, it’s deprecated upstream:
“[DEPRECATED] This repository only exists for BC compatibility with old
versions of Symfony. Recent versions comes with ICU data.”

Thanks in advance for removing this package.

Bug#764557: extra info

2014-11-05 Thread Nikolaus Rath
Update: when running sufficiently long, journalctl eventually prints
something, but it is *very* slow. The strace output is:

mmap(NULL, 4198400, PROT_READ, MAP_SHARED, 6, 0x528000) = 0x7f46ace1a000
munmap(0x7f46ab617000, 8388608) = 0

Additionally, it seems that my journal grows without bounds. Currently,

This is indeed cosmetic. No one shares /usr/share across different

it.

I added this as part of my pull request to the upstream:

Very cool! You'll probably want to ensure that [this bug][1] gets
resolved, as the version of GNOME shell in Jessie and Sid is 3.14.

Bug#768247: burp-dbg: unhandled symlink to directory conversion: /usr/share/doc/PACKAGE

2014-11-05 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Package: burp-dbg
Version: 1.3.48-4
Severity: serious
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: piuparts

Hi,

an upgrade test with piuparts revealed that your package installs files
over existing symlinks and possibly overwrites files owned by other
packages. This usually means an old version of the package shipped a
symlink but that was later replaced by a real (and non-empty)
directory. This kind of overwriting another package's files cannot be
detected by dpkg.

This was observed on the following upgrade paths:

  wheezy -> jessie

For /usr/share/doc/PACKAGE this may not be problematic as long as both
packages are installed, ship byte-for-byte identical files and are
upgraded in lockstep. But once one of the involved packages gets
removed, the other one will lose its documentation files, too,
including the copyright file, which is a violation of Policy 12.5:
http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-docs.html#s-copyrightfile

For other overwritten locations anything interesting may happen.

Note that dpkg intentionally does not replace directories with symlinks
and vice versa, you need the maintainer scripts to do this.
See in particular the end of point 4 in
http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-maintainerscripts.html#s-unpackphase

It is recommended to use the dpkg-maintscript-helper commands
'dir_to_symlink' and 'symlink_to_dir' (available since dpkg 1.17.2)
to perform the conversion, ideally using d/$PACKAGE.mainstscript.
See dpkg-maintscript-helper(1) and dh_installdeb(1) for details.

Bug#768244: qemu-system: leaves alternatives after purge: /usr/bin/qemu = /usr/bin/qemu-system-i386

2014-11-05 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Package: qemu-system
Version: 2.1+dfsg-5
Severity: important
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: piuparts

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package left unowned files on
the system after purge, which is a violation of policy 6.8:

http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-maintainerscripts.html#s-removedetails

The leftover files are actually alternatives that were installed by the
package but have not been properly removed.

While there is ongoing discussion how to remove alternatives correctly
(see http://bugs.debian.org/71621 for details) the following strategy
should work for regular cases:
* 'postinst configure' always installs the alternative
* 'prerm remove' removes the alternative
* 'postrm remove' and 'postrm disappear' remove the alternative
In all other cases a maintainer script is invoked (e.g. upgrade,
deconfigure) the alternatives are not modified to preserve user
configuration.
Removing the alternative in 'prerm remove' avoids having a dangling link
once the actual file gets removed, but 'prerm remove' is not called in
all cases (e.g. unpacked but not configured packages or disappearing
packages) so the postrm must remove the alternative again
(update-alternatives gracefully handles removal of non-existing
alternatives).

Note that the arguments for adding and removing alternatives differ, for
removal it's 'update-alternatives --remove '.

Filing this as important as having a piuparts clean archive is a release
goal since lenny.

>From the attached log (scroll to the bottom...):

1m33.1s INFO: Warning: Package purging left files on system:
  /etc/alternatives/qemu -> /usr/bin/qemu-system-i386not owned
  /usr/bin/qemu -> /etc/alternatives/qemunot owned

This was observed after an ugrade from wheezy to jessie. If these
alternatives are obsolete, they should be removed by the postinst script.

cheers,

Andreas

Bug#766418: Needlessly causes systemd-modules-load.service to fail on desktops

2014-11-05 Thread Christian Hofstaedtler
Control: severity 766418 important

Installing the ipmitool command line utility should not enable a
daemon, and it should not cause unrelated stuff to fail.

While I welcome ipmievd in principle, it should be in its own package
and the modules should probably only get loaded when ipmievd is
enabled.

Bug#768243: heimdal-clients: leaves alternatives after purge: rcp, rsh, telnet

2014-11-05 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Package: heimdal-clients
Version: 1.6~rc2+dfsg-8
Severity: important
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: piuparts

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package left unowned files on
the system after purge, which is a violation of policy 6.8:

http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-maintainerscripts.html#s-removedetails

The leftover files are actually alternatives that were installed by the
package but have not been properly removed.

While there is ongoing discussion how to remove alternatives correctly
(see http://bugs.debian.org/71621 for details) the following strategy
should work for regular cases:
* 'postinst configure' always installs the alternative
* 'prerm remove' removes the alternative
* 'postrm remove' and 'postrm disappear' remove the alternative
In all other cases a maintainer script is invoked (e.g. upgrade,
deconfigure) the alternatives are not modified to preserve user
configuration.
Removing the alternative in 'prerm remove' avoids having a dangling link
once the actual file gets removed, but 'prerm remove' is not called in
all cases (e.g. unpacked but not configured packages or disappearing
packages) so the postrm must remove the alternative again
(update-alternatives gracefully handles removal of non-existing
alternatives).

Note that the arguments for adding and removing alternatives differ, for
removal it's 'update-alternatives --remove '.

Filing this as important as having a piuparts clean archive is a release
goal since lenny.

>From the attached log (scroll to the bottom...):

*sigh* Thanks for catching this: it wasn't mentioned because I
didn't make this change (AFAIK) and was unaware of it concerning this
upload; I believe what I uploaded to mentors.debian.net for 1.2.8-1
was this:

   ftp://ftp.coredump.us/debian-packages/mumble/mumble-1.2.8/

but I see that indeed the package now in unstable contains this file,
and a debdiff between that and the package linked to above shows the
debian/mumble-server.init (and no other differences).

At one time I had accidentily included a debian/mumble-server.init
(in a prior version) because it's something upstream includes in
their PPA package for Ubuntu so I was testing using the file but had
not committed it to git. I had also configured git-buildpackage with
"export = WC" to export the working copy rather than only what's in
git to allow doing a debuild of things I'm not sure I want to commit
yet, so the file got included in one of the uploads -- I removed
it on the next upload which is why 1.2.8~7~g76f6870-2 in Jessie
doesn't contain it. I'll double-check with my package sponsor to see
if he has any insight on what happened in this case.

Other than that, do you have a suggestion as to how I should proceed
from here?

Yes I see that (Johnathan -- thanks for the links). Ugh. Sorry I
missed this, but now that we've caught an error in thie upload, I'm
sort of glad that I did.

Note that dpkg intentionally does not replace directories with symlinks
and vice versa, you need the maintainer scripts to do this.
See in particular the end of point 4 in
http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-maintainerscripts.html#s-unpackphase

It is recommended to use the dpkg-maintscript-helper commands
'dir_to_symlink' and 'symlink_to_dir' (available since dpkg 1.17.2)
to perform the conversion, ideally using d/$PACKAGE.mainstscript.
See dpkg-maintscript-helper(1) and dh_installdeb(1) for details.

Bug#768236: ffcall: FTBFS on ppc64el: No rule to make target 'avcall-powerpc64le.lo'

2014-11-05 Thread Fernando Seiti Furusato
Source: ffcall
Severity: normal
Tags: patch
User: debian-powe...@lists.debian.org

Dear Maintainer,

The package ffcall fails to build from source on ppc64el because some
definitions
were missing for the platform.

I have created a patch, mostly copying powerpc64 .c and .s files and making
some changes
to *powerpc64le.s files to support ELFv2 (basically changing .opd section usage
by .localentry,
since the former is not in ELFv2 ABI).

Just removing the line that uses '.opd' section allows the package to build,
but I assumed
it needed an entry point definition, so I just changed it according to what can
be found on ELFv2
ABI specs at https://wiki.debian.org/ppc64el in ABI Documentation section.

I also added the entries to Makefile.in files. I could have used the same .c
files that are in use
for powerpc64, but I had rather copied them so there won't be any confusions.

The package still lacks dh-autoreconf usage so configure files are updated but
as it builds without
it and its mere addition causes the build to break, I prefered to do that in a
separate work.

I am not an expert on this subject, so I apologize in advance for any messing
up I could have
done with the patch. So please let me know if you have any comments.

Thanks and regards.
Fernando

++containing floats or doubles are passed in FP registers?!
++

Yeah, that looks like a good idea, thanks. Did you actually test it?

I'm tempted to upload a patched package to sid and let people toy with
daily builds before considering backporting the patch to stable (which
is the usual way of dealing with such things anyway).

BTW: It looks like ntpservers have a max value as well but array
boundary checks seem present (dhcp.c's netcfg_dhcp).

Hm, would there be downsides to defaulting to RemainAfterExit=false
for sysvinit scripts? Apart from the obvious one of changig established
behaviuor and potentially breaking compatiblity with older systemds.
This would indeed seem to match sysvinit behaviour more closely, and
would also make sysvinit scripts more similar to normal units, which
default to RemainAfterExit=no.

Bug#768225: plymouth: Plymouth makes console inaccessible on shutdown

2014-11-05 Thread Nikolaus Rath
Package: plymouth
Version: 0.9.0-7
Severity: normal

When *not* passing "splash" in the kernel command line, I can execute
"systemctl reboot" (or "systemctl shutdown") and access the text console
during the shutdown process. In particular, I can use Ctrl+Alt+Fx to
interact with the systemd debug shell on tty9, or see system log

However, when passing "splash" to the kernel, this is no longer

Bug#768215: unblock: owfs/2.9p8-4

2014-11-05 Thread Vincent Danjean
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: unblock

Please unblock package owfs

Hi,

I uploaded a new version of owfs (2.9p7) in unstable on 2014-10-17.
Talking with upstream, he tells me there is a important bug, so I uploaded
the new upstream version (2.9p8) that fixes it on 2014-10-20.
And here, I missed the fact that 2.9p8 introduced a problem on FreeBSD
until 2014-10-25 (a FreeBSD porter signaled the problem to me). And it took me
3 days (until 2014-10-27) to correctly fix it. And, of course, I missed the
deadline by one day :-(

I would be very pleased if you accept to unblock this package whereas the
reason is not correct according to the freeze policy (ie, I know I ask you to
overule the policy, not to apply it).

I do not add the debdiff here because it is really important (the current
version in testing is 2.9p5-1.1, ie several upstream releases before)

  A few remarks:
* owfs has a RC bug : #768115
It is only missing a Breaks/Replaces relation. But, as this bugs is already
present in the current testing version (2.9p5-1.1), I'm waiting for your
decision here to know if I must prepare the fix on top of 2.9p5-1.1 or
2.9p8-4 (probably with an epoch to go through unstable)
* going back to the current testing version will reopen the important bug
#765371 but this bug will be easy to fix
* even if owfs produces library packages, this is a leaf package: to my
knowledge (and apt-cache rdepends results), no other packages depend nor
  build-depend on this one.

  Regards,
Vincent

Well, that's the plan. 486 is mostly two dozen years ago now...

Sorry for your 486 systems, Debian won't support them any more.

Bug#768204: RFS: w3c-markup-validator/1.3+dfsg-2 [RC][QA]

2014-11-05 Thread Jean-Michel Nirgal Vourgère
Package: sponsorship-requests
Severity: important

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package "w3c-markup-validator"

 Package name: w3c-markup-validator
 Version : 1.3+dfsg-2
 Upstream Author : W3C
 URL : http://validator.w3.org/about.html
 License : W3C-Software
 Section : web

It builds those binary packages:

  w3c-markup-validator - W3C Markup Validator

To access further information about this package, please visit the
following URL:

http://mentors.debian.net/package/w3c-markup-validator

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command:

  dget -x
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/w/w3c-markup-validator/w3c-markup-validator_1.3+dfsg-2.dsc

Changes since the last upload:
* QA upload:
  - Update maintainer to Debian QA.
  - Drop uploader.
* Switch Vcs to alioth collab-maint.
* Update copyright file for lintian:
  - Remove spaces in licence short names.
  - Pack copyright information for mootools-1.2.5-core-nc.js. There can be
only one license per file.
* debian/rules: Ask lynx to directly outputs UTF-8, rather than assuming it
outputs latin1 and then converting it with iconv. (Closes: #738426)
* Transition to apache 2.4 (Closes: #670973) :
  - Use apache2-maintscript-helper to enable modules and conf files.
  - Also enable cgi module.
  - Remove obsolete file /etc/apache2/conf.d/w3c-markup-validator.conf.
  - Rewrite permission_override.patch for new authentication directives.
  - Update validator_conf_debianize.patch comments for new location.
  - Change Depends:apache|httpd-cgi to Recommends.
  - New no_ap_expr.patch to enable SSI legacy expression parser.
* Bump policy to 3.9.6: No change required.
* Refresh lintian overrides.

Note that this package will not be available in jessie.

Regards,
 Jean-Michel Vourgère

Bug#766943: systemd: server no longer gets networking after switching to systemd

2014-11-05 Thread Christoph Anton Mitterer
Hey guys.

Probably nothing new here, right?

Since this seems to be a quite serious bug, i.e. no networking (which
makes the nodes completely unreachable/unusable) when systemd is used
which is the default init system in jessie... I'd say that this
qualifies to be a RC bug.

Unless you disagree (please explain why), I'd bump the severity
accordingly.

Cheers,
chris.

Actually comparing fsck.ext4 vs. cfdisk, with cfdisk we pretty much know

Bug#766718: Release-critical

2014-11-05 Thread Francois Marier
While I hesitate to bump the severity of this bug to the highest one, it
does break unrelated software (spamassassin). As it stands, several features
of SpamAssassin are broken in sid and jessie due to the unusual version
number.

The SpamAssassin upstream have said that this is not a bug in SA but that it
comes from the fact that a pre-release version of Net::DNS was uploaded to
Debian.

I assume this can be fixed by uploading the next upstream release of
Net::DNS?

I found a workaround: record normally, but replay with
--force-core-replay. I haven't looked deeply into why this works. The
recorded file has events from the 'Virtual core pointer' and from the
'Synaptics Touchpad'. Removing one or the other doesn't fix it, but
passing that option does.

getting this working? I can see that the mouse motions are indeed

they look right), but the playback just goes to the origin and stays

Bug#768201: phabricator: pot debconf file. Inconsistencies

2014-11-05 Thread Markus Hiereth
Package: phabricator
Version: 0~git20141101-1
Severity: normal

Dear Richard,

I am about ot translate the po-debconf file of phabricator into
German. See

  https://lists.debian.org/debian-l10n-german/2014/11/msg2.html

There was one pair of inconsistent messages in the english original:

#. Type: select
#. Description
#: ../phabricator.templates:6002
msgid ""
"Please select the web server for which Phabricator should be automatically "
"configured."

#. Type: select
#. Description
#: ../phabricator.templates:6002
msgid "Select \"None\" if you would like to configure the web server manually."

The first mentions phabricator to be configured, in the second it is web
server that needs to be configurated.

Besides, I would recommend to refer in literally the same form when
talking about the login at the MYSQL server. The present messages
vary: E.g. one time, "MySQL server administrator" is used, another
time "MySQL administrator" As far as I can see, the point is simply to
use an account having the right to create a new database. This is
explained in the end and regrettably not right a the start.

#. Type: string
#. Description
#: ../phabricator.templates:2001
msgid "Mysql administrator username:"

#. Type: string
#. Description
#: ../phabricator.templates:2001
msgid ""
"Please enter the username of a Mysql server administrator. This account must "
"have enough privileges to create phabricator_* databases."

#. Type: password
#. Description
#: ../phabricator.templates:3001
msgid "Mysql administrator password:"

#. Type: password
#. Description
#: ../phabricator.templates:4001
msgid "Mysql administrator password confirmation:"

#. Type: password
#. Description
#: ../phabricator.templates:4001
msgid "Please enter your Mysql administrator password again for confirmation."

Best Regards
Markus

The debdiff you attached would be fine in principle, but unfortunately the
version in Jessie is 14.1-2, not 15.2-1. With

 271 files changed, 52206 insertions(+), 33080 deletions(-)

I'd rather have a targetted fix for the documentation bug through tpu
please. Downgrading the bug is also an option, though I feel slightly
uncomfortable shipping a package with a license inaccuracy.

Bug#768178: systemd: sysvinit wrapper breaks newly-installed services

Take another example: even if my script did work perfectly according to the
LSB, a service might stop *itself* a short time after "service x start"
completes with return code 0. systemd will be unable to detect this [1], and a
subsequent "service x start" will not work under systemd (because it thinks
it's active, and treats the "start" subcommand as a no-op), even though this
would work under plain sysvinit.

X

[1] without providing metadata in a pseudo-header - but we're working under the
assumption that initscript writers should not have to care about systemd.
