I've made a new upload with this fix. (I just noticed that I
hadn't patched the stop action previously. So I've moved things
around a bit.) Hopefully this finally solves the problem. Let me know if
it doesn't.

You would hope so, but you would be disappointed. As far as gettext is

to write your own little scripts to make things match again.

Bug#273957: min delayed 1

   this.

  Well, that should already be possible. It's just not documented in the
  manpage or the help output. :-)

 Ah well, than it makes sense to document it :)

I think I've already changed at least the help message. But Thomas and I
will check it, when we make a new release.

   As for the maximum value, why imposing an arbitrary restriction? Just
   accept
   any value as long as the target queue accepts it.

  At least I believe that dput should impose a restriction with respect to
  the maximum value for delayed uploads. In my opinion dput should only
  allow values that are supported by the official delayed upload queues.
  It has been a tradition for me to have such checks in dput and I don't
  think this should be changed. But let's see what Thomas thinks about
  this one.

 The official delayed queue that run on ftp-master is not there anymore.

Well, but it's possible that official queues will be created again. At
least there are enough hosts maintained by Debian where an official
queue could be set up. But that's a topic for -devel and not the log of
this bugreport.

 Anyone can run a queue with whatever insane value per wants, so it doesn't
 make sense to impose a restriction in dput.

Sure, but dput doesn't and won't support a queue set up by anyone. The
decision which queues are supported will be made by us. Therefor it
makes sense to impose a restriction as we will only support the maximum
delayed days that sound reasonable to us. And I've yet to see a damn
good argument for a delayed upload to a 30-days. (I even think that
21-days is too much.)

 If you don't want dput's backend to fail with unexistant directory errors,
 then I suggest that you check for existance of directory before uploading.
 But in the case of password-based authentication this requires typing the
 password twice, which is a bit annoying.

And that's one nice reasons why it's a lot easier to check the command
line argument for uploading against a defined list of allowed values.
That way dput will never fail because the directory is missing. And
nobody will ever have to type his password twice.

Bug#293425: libgtk2-ruby: With new libgtk2.6 there are problems in Gtk::EntryCompletion

 Could you provide some code which demonstrates the bug? I'd like to try
 to pin down what's happening rather than just relying on GTK 2.6 to fix
 it. 2.4 and 2.6 should work interchangably, as I understand it.

 Here you have a little script:

-
#!/usr/bin/ruby

require 'gtk2'

class Combo  Gtk::ComboBoxEntry
def Combo.valor_defecto
nil
end

def initiaze
super()
end

def make_list(vals)
@vals = vals

model = Gtk::ListStore.new(String)
@vals.each do |v|
append_text(v)

iter = model.append
iter[0] = v
end

comp = Gtk::EntryCompletion.new
child.completion = comp

comp.model = model
comp.text_column = 0
self
end
end

Gtk.init

ventana = Gtk::Window.new
ventana.set_title(Problem with Gtk::ComboBoxEntry)
ventana.signal_connect('delete_event') {exit}

vbox = Gtk::VBox::new(true, 10)

combo = Combo.new.make_list(['uno', 'dos', 'tres', 'cuatro', 'cinco'])
vbox.pack_start(combo, true, true, 0)

boton = Gtk::Button.new('_close', true)
boton.signal_connect('clicked') do exit end
vbox.pack_start(boton, true, true, 0)

ventana.add(vbox)

ventana.show_all

Gtk.main

 If you type c in combo, it should show a list with two options:
 cuatro and cinco, but doesn't work. With Gtk2.4 same example worked
 without problem.

Bug#293741: debian-installer-manual: PDF output it ugly, inconsistent with other Debian documentation

 After switching from debiandoc to jadetex, the Debian Installer manual
 PDF became rather ugly and different from the consistent look of other
 Debian documents such as the Debian Reference. In particular, it is
 using different fonts, the Table of Contents is not hyperlinked, the
 title page is Just Plain Ugly, and the page header runs well into the
 top margin.

This is being worked on. The problem is actually, that there is no
DFSG-free software out there that is capable of batch-generating PDFs in
good quality in all languages we'd like to support. The only feasible way
might be using LaTeX, for which I have some scripts in beta. However, the
problem is still not solved completely, even if we have some nice looking
PDFs for most latin-based languages now

To the matter of format change: as I see it, DebianDoc is an SGML format
while DocBook we are using currently is XML. I hope that we can produce a
good solution for PDFs soon, then we might as well propose a change
for the Debian Reference and the other documentation.

Bug#293975: mozilla-firefox: vulnerable to IDN spoofing problems

2005-02-07 Thread pabs
Package: mozilla-firefox
Version: 1.0+dfsg.1-4
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

advisory: http://www.shmoo.com/idn/homograph.txt
demonstration: http://www.shmoo.com/idn/
highlights:
 I.Background

 International Domain Name [IDN] support in modern browsers allows attackers
 to
 spoof domain name URLs + SSL certs.
 III.  The details

 Proof of concept URL:

 http://www.shmoo.com/idn/

 Clicking on any of the two links in the above webpage using anything but IE
 should result in a spoofed paypal.com webpage.

I confirm that this works on my sid machine.

 V.Workaround

 You can disable IDN support in mozilla products by setting
 'network.enableIDN'
 to false.

I can confirm this works, but the domain not found message says
http://www.paypal.com; cannot be found, so it isn't exactly a great
workaround.

 VI.   Vendor Responses

 Mozilla: Working on finding a good long-term solution; provided clear
 workaround for disabling IDN.

Bug#293976: gv: does not quote or handle filenames given to the shell when printing

2005-02-07 Thread Tobias Stefan Richter
Package: gv
Version: 1:3.6.1-5
Severity: grave
Justification: user security hole

gv does not handle filenames correctly.
When trying to print a file with a space in it, I get:

$ gv 24\ stundenprotokoll.ps
Warning - Cannot open file '24', No such file or directory
Warning - Cannot open file 'stundenprotokoll.ps', No such file or directory
lp: nothing to print
Warning - Cannot open file '/home/tsr/gv_42073222_1_24', No such file or
directory
Warning - Cannot open file 'stundenprotokoll.ps.tmp', No such file or directory
lp: nothing to print
$

The first message is from 'Print All' the second is a 'Print Marked'.

Using specially crafted filenames it is also possible to launch
arbitrary programs under the invoking user's id. This is a security risk.

Bug#293974: icewm is not using the configuration created by icepref

2005-02-07 Thread Jonas
Package: icepref
Version: 1.1-17
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

icepref creates ~/.icewm/preferences
Icewm is not by default using that file, so configuration changes are
not visible, and therefore icepref is practically useless for normal
users.

I use debian unstable.

I suggest the icepref package is removed and replaced with for example
icewmcp (icewm control panel) or icepref2.

I'm doing testing packages in Ubuntu's hoary repository, they build against

put it in Debian proper though. Didn't want to dump experimental stuff in if

Bug#287189: #287189 still a bug?

2005-02-07 Thread Thomas Hood
Was #287189 closed by mistake? The original report (now reassigned to
initrd-tools) is that mkinitrd looks for /bin/discover. According to
the changelog, the discover program is now at /sbin/discover. So
presumably mkinitrd may still need to be fixed?

Bug#293008: Sarge Installation Report: succes, but strange tasksel behavior

 I have tried to reproduce this using both RC2 netinst and daily (20050205)
 netinst CDs (medium priority).
 Whatever combination of tasks I select, I never get asked this question:
 installation just proceeds:
 - the info on packages to be installed/upgraded is shown (none deleted,
   some held back)
 - no question is asked
 - the download of the first package starts

Saturday 5 Feb 2005, after running apt-get upgrade on another sarge PC
I also tried tasksel and even when I ask tasksel to
install/remove/install/remove the Fileserver packages (that is samba, nfs,
apple), aptitude never asked for any confirmation before installing or
removing packages, which I find strange ...

So, I also was unable to reproduce that problem on another computer.

 The situation that may trigger the question could be if a package were to
 be deleted, but as I said I can't reproduce that.

 Peter: if you can, we will need extremely exact information on:
 - what architecture you use
 - what installation method you use, exact version of the installer
 - priority of the installation
 - what you select as sources for apt in second stage
 - what tasks (and/or manual selection) you select in tasksel

 A copy of the base-config log would be useful as well.

I will try to provide that on Wednesday 7 Feb (from the Dutch-language
computer).

I plan to continue to use the exact original CD image (iso 1) that I
downloaded on 22 Jan 2004 from the official site, or rather should
I download a new CD image ?

Maybe this afternoon, I will be able to give more info from another
install I plan to execute from this CD.

Thanks for your time,

Peter

 FJP

Bug#293983: Wrong variable name (old-passwords) in my.cnf

2005-02-07 Thread Patrice Pawlak
Package: mysql-common-4.1
Version: 4.1.9-2

The configuration file /etc/mysql/my.cnf for MySQL 4.1 comes with a wrong

Not having this variable set prevent older clients from connecting to the
server, which can be quite blocking in some configurations.

Bug#247057: still create logfile in /

2005-02-07 Thread Wiesiek
Hi
I just create new server with razor/dcc/spamassassin soft.
But razor still create logfile in /
Man page: # man 5 razor-agent.conf
says:

ATTRIBUTES
  Following attributes can be specified:
  razorhome
  Directory where Razor Agents look for files. All files in
razor-agent.conf without a full path will be relative to
  razorhome. The default is /etc/razor/ for root, and
~/.razor/ for every other user. If razorhome does not
  exist, it will be created.

  logfile
  Log file for the Razor Agents. The default is razor-agent.log.

That suggest logfile only filename without path.
I change my config file to this:
# cat razor-agent.conf

# See razor-agent.conf (5)
# Change this to 5 for safer classification of MIME attachments. This will
let more spam through
logic_method = 4
# Uncomment the next line for logging via syslog
#logfile = sys-syslog
logfile = /var/log/razor-agent.log
---

And now razor create logfile in /var/log/

I din't know that mkstemp compiling errors should be reported with

Btw, it would be nice if the policy manual would point people to a
document that would list examples; what kind of errors could/should be
reported as security violations. There could be section like
compiling and mkstemp mentioned.

Bug#293984: Typo and a wrong URL

2005-02-07 Thread Uwe Zeisberger
Package: svn-buildpackage
Version: 0.5.12
Severity: minor
File: /usr/share/doc/svn-buildpackage/HOWTO.html

Hello,

in section 4.3 (Working with source) of the svn-buildpackage HOWTO is
stated, that dpkg-buildpackage won't let you proceed if there are
suspicious files. This should read svn-buildpackage won't

In Chapter 6, section 1 Various links the local link to the subversion
book is broken, as (at least in/since subversion 1.1.3-1) the filename
is svn-book.html and not book.html. I think it is sound to correct the
link, because subversion 1.1.3-1 is already in testing, but maybe filing
a bug report against subversion is sensible, too.

Regards
Uwe

This is most likely caused by a number of offset problems, or even

seeing that the iputils package predates it.

Bug#293853: galeon-common: Please split the package into galeon-common and galeon-help

2005-02-07 Thread Cyril Bouthors
On 7 Feb 2005, Loc Minier wrote:

 Let me know if you understand this decision

Not quite.

What would be the real cost of splitting the package into
galeon-common and galeon-help?

Here's my guess:

 - put usr/share/gnome/help into debian/gnome-help.dirs;

 - add mv debian/gnome-{data,help}/usr/share/gnome/help to
   debian/rules;

 - add a Recommends: (...), galeon-help to debian/control;

 - add a galeon-help section to debian/control based on gnome-data
   (copy/paste).

Bug#289470: totem

2005-02-07 Thread Guilherme de S. Pastore
This bug doesn't happen to one person only. I'm sorry, it had been
happening to me for some time, but only today did I have time to write
a bug report (and, well, notice someone had already reported it).

This bug's severity should, IMHO, be at least 'serious'.

If there's any useful information I can provide (that hasn't been
provided yet, heh), just ask =)

Best regards,

 The license for the Python profiler[0] does not allow it to be copied or
 modified independently of other Python programs. This is a violation of
 DFSG #3 (and also is just stupid). This bug affects likely every version

ok, I'll address this upstream.

 Howeer, /usr/share/doc/python2.4/copyright does not include this

 http://www.python.org/doc/current/lib/node822.html are included. At
 least http://www.python.org/doc/current/lib/node826.html also looks
 non-free.

will add the licenses to the 2.3 and 2.4 pacakges.

Bug#293996: po-debconf: Doesn't work with fakechroot

2005-02-07 Thread Piotr Roszatycki
Package: po-debconf
Version: 0.8.18
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

Hi. I've tried to build my package in fakechroot environment. The build process
hangs up on po2debconf and question about mv command. It is probably the problem
with fakechroot because it is just a hack but there is very easy workaround
for po2debconf.

The message from debuild:

po2debconf --podir=debian/po 'debian/tmp-php5-common/DEBIAN/templates'
'debian/tmp-php5-commo
n/DEBIAN/templates.merge'
Warning:Outdated PO file: debian/po/cs.po, running
  debconf-updatepo --podir=debian/po
mv: overwrite `/tmp/po2debconf.8Omd53', overriding mode 0600?

The output from ls:

-rw---  1 root root0 Feb  6 06:25 /tmp/po2debconf.WdJiYP

Bug#208700: Bug#256680 confirmed fixed

2005-02-07 Thread Helge Hafting
Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you
have further comments please address them to [EMAIL PROTECTED],
and the maintainer will reopen the bug report if appropriate.
I can confirm that the problem is solved. I installed netbase from
unstable. Then I rewrote nsswitch conf to try ldap lookups first.
There were no hang during shutdown - the problem really is solved.
Thanks a lot!

Bug#261753: workaround for the konqueror file associations problem

2005-02-07 Thread Ji Volf

Hi,
I had the same problem - I could not permanently associate e.g. mpg with gmplayer.

Workaround which worked for me:

konqeror / setup / file associations / video / mpeg / add
then manually write gmplayer (if you use app from menu, it is owned by root and cannot be changed)
then press modify/change/?? button ( I dont know, since my labels are in Czech)
choose application tab
add mime types you want
press advanced properties
deselect run / allow response ... (this supress the running clock utem on taskbar, playing mpg from konqueror)

I hope this works not only for me...

Nice day, Jiri Volf

Bug#293989: xsl stylesheet does not work anymore

 Package: db2latex-xsl

 I am suddenly getting this on every run:
..
 xsl:template: error duplicate name 'question.answer.label'

A few weeks ago there was an identical bug report (289183) reported by Nikolai
Prokoschenko [EMAIL PROTECTED]. Together we figured out that this was
due to changed handling of duplicate templates in the newer versions of
xsltproc.
So I guess you are using xsltproc from experimental?

A workaround for the time being is to use xsltprc from sarge.
A general solution requires upstream modifications. Unfortunately up to now I
didn't get any response from upstream about this issue :-(

Bug#293994: libgtk2.0-0: gedit starts in right-to-left mode (?)

 When version 2.6.1-2 of libgtk2.0-0 is installed, gedit starts with
 the cursor on the top right of the window (instead top left). When
 typing letters, the cursor jumps to the left, when typing numbers, it
 stays on the right. Anyhow, with version 2.4.14-2 of libgtk2.0-0
 everything behaves as expected.

Hi,

Does it happen in gtk-demo or in other applications ? What locale and
input method are you using ?

Bug#294010: php-imlib: phpapi revision requires a new upload in sid

2005-02-07 Thread Adam Conrad
Package: php-imlib
Severity: grave

Due to recent changes in the php4 packages, your package has become
uninstallable
in sid (as of today's dinstall run, installing php4_4:4.3.10-3). We are now
building php4 with Zend Thread Safety which both changes the ABI and changes
the directory that extensions should be installed into.

To build a new package, you need to do three things:

1) build-dep on php4-dev (= 4:4.3.10-3) (you can pull it from incoming to get
   a head start. The buildds already do)
2) ensure that your phpapi dependency has -zts tacked to the end of it.
   for examples on how to do so, see the debian/rules in php4-pgsql_3:4.3.10-1
3) Make sure that your extension installs to the correct directory
   (you do use `php-config --extension-dir`, don't you?)

That should be it.

Due to the simplicity and non-intrusiveness of these changes, if I don't see
uploads in the next 24 hours, I will happily NMU to fix the affected packages.

Package: evince
Version: 0.1.3-1

Since evinces description claims it to be a DVI viewer as well, not
being able is a bug. But perhaps just the description should be changed.

Bug#294012: php4-apd: phpapi revision requires a new upload in sid

2005-02-07 Thread Adam Conrad
Package: php4-apd
Severity: grave
Tags: sid

Due to recent changes in the php4 packages, your package has become
uninstallable
in sid (as of today's dinstall run, installing php4_4:4.3.10-3). We are now
building php4 with Zend Thread Safety which both changes the ABI and changes
the directory that extensions should be installed into.

Furthermore, it has come to my attention while investigating these bug reports
that your package doesn't correctly depend on phpapi-$(version), as it should.
Please see php4-pgsql for an example of how this is supposed to be done.

Bug#165635: [Bug java/8608] segmentation fault on compiling bad program

--- Additional Comments From rmathew at gcc dot gnu dot org 2005-02-07

The simplest testcase that reproduces this bug with
the current mainline is:

class Foo
{
  void bar()
  {
int a;
int i;
for(i=a;;);
  }
}

If the int i is removed and the for loop
is changed to for(int i=a;;);, the ICE
disappears.

Bug#293481: kernel-image-2.6.8-2-686: Cannot open root device

2005-02-07 Thread Nigel Stephens

Thiemo Seufer wrote:
Nigel Stephens wrote:

So what could be preventing the new kernel from even running the linuxrc
script, or at the very least preventing it from showing the output from
the extra echo line which I added to it.

This might point to a missing or invalid /dev/console. (At least with
udev-managed devices that's not a completely unlikely theory.)

I was a bit worried about this message when I diffed my initrd-2.6.6 and
initrd.2.6.8

 File initrd-2.6.6/dev/console is a character special file while file
initrd-2.6.8/dev/console is a character special file

Looking in detail I see:
 shoreditch.root /tmp 2# ls -l initrd-2.6.6/dev/console
 crw-rw  1 root root 5, 1 Jan  1  1970 initrd-2.6.6/dev/console
 shoreditch.root /tmp 2# ls -l initrd-2.6.8/dev/console
 crw---  1 root tty 5, 1 Jan  1  1970 initrd-2.6.8/dev/console
So the permissions are different, but I can't imagine that would make
any difference at this stage of the bootstrap, which must surely be
running with a uid of root.

Of course udev may be overwriting this and screwing it up, since I think
that 2.6.6 didn't have udev, while 2.6.8 does - is that right? Is there
anything that I could add to the boot command line to control udev, or
to help diagnose the problem?

Bug#281758: glabels: glabels file type not correctly recognised by nautilus

2005-02-07 Thread Roland Turner (Debian)
Hi Andrew,

 Are you using the extension .glabels on the end of your files? If so,

(embarrassment) Apparently Nautilus is case-sensitive wrt filename
extensions, the extension on the file in question was .gLabels which
wasn't matching. Not a glabels bug.

Thanks.

Bug#294026: horde2: PHP applications should never depend on phpapi-12345

2005-02-07 Thread Adam Conrad
Package: horde2
Severity: important

Due to incorrect packaging on your part, your package has become partially
broken in sid, as of today's dinstall run. I wish I had caught this earlier,
but I don't make a habit of reviewing all PHP apps. Sorry.

In your dependency line, you list 'phpapi-20020918' as a dependency, however you
should NEVER do that for PHP applications. That virtual package exists
specifically so that binary PHP extensions (like php4-pgsql, for instance) can
depend on the precise API/ABI they were built against.

If your intention was to use this as a catchall to depend on all the PHP SAPIs,
please use this instead:

Depends: php4 | php4-cgi

(You may have minimum versions specified as well, if your application demands
specific features, for example, (= 4:4.3.0-1))

Due to the simplicity involved in fixing this RC bug, if I don't see an upload
within the next 24 hours, I will NMU.

Thanks,
