Bug#340988: emacs-snapshot: paragraph breaks disappearing in outgoing mail

2005-11-28 Thread Romain Francoise
Jay Berkenbilt [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

Well, the problem doesn't happen for me with a vanilla setup, so it
must be something in my environment.

That's a valuable piece of information.

This is, by the way, why I used to always run pretest versions --
before I started doing that, there was never an emacs release in which
all my customizations worked together, and my init files used to be
 littered with version-specific workarounds.

Heh. Thanks again for using emacs-snapshot, your bug reports are very
useful!

Being able to run regularly updated snapshots on this one machine (my
main home development system) is great because it means I will always
have a stable emacs everywhere else, and with your rapid responses,
things never stay broken for very long. :-)

Sorry for the occasional breakage -- I do my best to make emacs-snapshot
as stable as any Emacs release but even though I read emacs-diffs daily,
read the debdiff of each snapshot, and test each version thoroughly
(with my setup), some changes still slip under my radar (like the
hi-lock bug last week, or this filling issue).

Back to this bug: I grepped through your configuration, and it could be
caused by any (or both) of the following customizations:
- next-line-add-newlines set to t (it's nil here)
- this substitution in q-message.el:

  (substitute-key-definition
   'next-line 'mail-abbrev-next-line
   message-mode-map global-map
   )

Let me know if I hit the mark.

 Great news!

Yeah, and Ubuntu has switched to the experimental packages in dapper, so
hopefully it will get some more extensive testing. I really hope that
you will upload the packages to unstable soon.

Björn Any chance of getting KCM enabled by the way?

 Err... What is KCM?

Bug#341074: manpages: Please follow DevRef best practice for nonpristine tarballs

2005-11-28 Thread Justin Pryzby
Package: manpages
Version: 2.10-1
Severity: minor

Section 6.7.8.2 in the Developer's Reference includes best practices
for upstream source, including:

  4. _should_ use `packagename-upstream-version.orig' as the name
of the top-level directory in its tarball. This makes it possible
to distinguish pristine tarballs from repackaged ones.

Bug#341050: cannot resume from -a encode

When I was not online, I ran abcde -a encode on some CDs, hoping it
would let me resume later when I was online (but didn't have the CDs)
and finish the tagging and moving steps. This didn't work, the -a encode
runs created abcde.xx directories containing untagged ogg files and
 various other info, and:

 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/lib/sound/local/newabcde -C 9b0a520c
[INF] The disc does not contain any tracks. Giving up...

Did you do the initial ripping with a version of abcde lower than 2.3.99? The
older versions created a file with the number of tracks, while 2.3.99 stores
the info inside abcde.$DISCID/status :

cdparanoia-audio-tracks=X

Adding that line will help resuming the encoding process.

It is documented in the non-released 2.3.99.1, unfortunatelly.

Cheers,

Bug#341071: libgdome2-ocaml-dev: encoding support

2005-11-28 Thread YANG Shouxun
Package: libgdome2-ocaml-dev
Version: 0.2.3-2
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

After submitting the bug report, I've tried to add the functionality. Based on
the parallel functions without Enc, I found the addition is quite
straightforward.

The following statements work for me:

di#saveDocumentToFileEnc ~doc:doc2 ~name:fn2 ~encoding:GB18030 ~indent:true
();
di#saveDocumentToFileEnc ~doc:doc2 ~name:fn2 ~encoding:UTF-8 ~indent:true
();

Please find attached the patch for this.

Since the patch has been manually edited, please let me know if it does not
work for you.

My own bindings (ALT-F1/F2 etc) are working fine.

Did anything else get upgraded at the same time that hadn't been

Bug#341079: bacula-director-mysql: director hang after first job

2005-11-28 Thread Vladimir Stavrinov
Package: bacula-director-mysql
Version: 1.36.3-2
Severity: normal

I have 23 jobs configured. There are not tapes. Every volume is file and
every device is directory while there are 9 such devices: about 2-4 jobs
for every device. Every job backup data into separate volume. File
daemon and Storage daemon both are configured for 20 concurrent jobs, while
director and every job are configured for 10 concurrent jobs. All of them
are working well, if I run them consequently manually. But when they run
scheduled all at the same time, backup stop on the first job and
director don't respond, nobody can connect to director, including
console.

I look at bug track on bugs.bacula.org and find the description of this
problem.

http://bugs.bacula.org/bug_view_advanced_page.php?bug_id=331nbn=4#bugnotes

There are code available to solve it. I look at changelog and see that
it is older then this page. Please, apply this patch and upload the
fixed packages. This may help.

Bug#340809: asks whether to create devices instead of telling

2005-11-28 Thread Steve Langasek
So in 0.7.1pre2-11, this bug has changed: instead of always asking the user
before creating the device nodes, now the code *never* asks the user,
because the debconf .config script has been dropped. Of course, looking at
the script in question there was definitely *lots* of room for improvement,
but by dropping it completely there is now no proper handling of the debconf
questions at all, so all debconf questions will end up with defaults. This
also means the user is *not* being notified that device nodes are being
created. :)

Bug#340809: asks whether to create devices instead of telling

2005-11-28 Thread Amaya
Hi there, Steve.

Sorry I could not get back to you sooner regarding this bug.

Lirc packaging is going through a major rewrite, with invaluable
assistance from Hector ([EMAIL PROTECTED]).

We are still considering sereral issues, but lirc is basically being
repackaged almost from scratch, being migrated to module-assistant,
upgraded to latest upstream version, and we expect major improvements.

Of course, all this is going to take some time. But looking at lirc the
way it is now is a major waste of time. Please bear with us while we
keep working on this.

Trabajamos para usted, disculpe las molestias - As seen in Madrid's

Un abrazo y gracias!

Bug#338828: Another solution

2005-11-28 Thread Ivailo Stoyanov
Another solution is to remove all (except the default) applets from the
bottom panel. When an newly added applet is removed, these messages
appear once again on next login but on subsequent logins everything is
OK.

I have experimented with my most used applets and evey time when I place
one of them on the bottom panel I get the mentioned error on next
logins.

Greets,
Ivailo

P.S. It seems that this bug is related to #331063

Bug#340370: rain: Generates bad TCP packets

2005-11-28 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
Tommi Virtanen [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
In conclusion, it doesn't quite work as advertised.

So it seems. I recall packaging rain because of the --sim features.
In over 3.5 years, upstream has not released a new version, so I
think one can safely assume this piece of software is forgotten.

You may be interested in isic (specifically, tcpsic) or scapy instead.

Hey Tommi,

Considering upstream is dead, the package hasn't been updated since
woody, it's (RC) buggy and alternatives exist which you recommend using
instead, do you think that it might be better to remove this package
from Debian? Or is there still a need to keep it?

If you think it's right to remove it, please reassign this bug to
ftp.debian.org.

thanks,

urggs indeed, will need another high urgency upload,

No devices in /dev lead to failure to find root and no boot.

initramfs-tools 0.40 works with udev 0.74,
for 0.76 we need to invoke it differently.
fix was discussed with udev Maintainer and is on its way.

To get up and running again I had to build a new initrd on a remote
system and copy it over using a live-cd.

yaird seems to have no problems with the same kernel (2.6.14-2-k7) and
 udev (0.76-2)

baah sorry for that mess.
in the middle term udev initramfs-tools hooks will be maintained
by the udev maintainer so we shouldn't run that badly out of sync.

This file is part of the upstream tarball, but is not shipped in the

it does.. if you don't mind I'll close this bug.

Bug#337100: xscreensaver: Fails to power off laptop screen

2005-11-28 Thread Jamie Zawinski
I'm afraid I don't know what to do about this. Note that
xscreensaver never explicitly powers off the screen: it merely tells
the X server what the DPMS timeouts are, and assumes the server will
power down the monitor(s) when the time comes. So, this sounds like
the X server itself is powering off one monitor and not the other? I
don't know why that would be...

Alternatively splitting libapt into a library package would do the

Bug#319319: new version, still 'setgroups: Operation not permitted'

2005-11-28 Thread Jamie Zawinski

when I compile and run this, I get:
setgroups: Operation not permitted

Note that xscreensaver (4.23) only calls setgroups if it needs to: if
the group list already contains only the one group that is intended,
it doesn't call it. So a setgroups failure really is a problem.

Perhaps one has to call setgid before setgroups? If so, reversing
the order of the calls around line 137 in setuid.c might fix it?

Ralf, can you verify that this program does work on your system, and
maybe direct me to the real problem?

Also see the test-uid.c program in xscreensaver/driver/.

Bug#324358: preview-latex with emacs-snapshot

2005-11-28 Thread OHURA Makoto
  Hi.

From: David Kastrup [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: Bug#324358: preview-latex with emacs-snapshot
Date: Wed, 23 Nov 2005 14:50:46 +0100
I have no idea how the AUCTeX and preview-latex Debian maintainers are
planning to deal with it. Personally, I don't think it makes much
sense to keep preview-latex unbundled as it is now: that was the
reason for bundling the stuff upstream.

AUCTeX Debian maintainer is planning to upload new AUCTeX
package bundling preview-latex. I've talked with him privately
and tested his package. Probably, emacs-snapshot will be
supported in it.

  Thanks.

it turned out that some local path settings in texmf.cnf broke the

removing the config file by hand, and re-installing tetex-bin. I didn't
have time to thoroughly test it, but cursory checks didn't reveal any
errors.

Thanks!

Bug#341087: sysctl.conf: incorrect ipv6 forwarding example

2005-11-28 Thread Brendan O'Dea
Package: procps
Version: 1:3.2.6-2
Severity: minor

The example in sysctl.conf for ipv6 forwarding is incorrect.
You probably want:

  # Uncomment the next line to enable packet forwarding for IPv6
  #net/ipv6/conf/all/forwarding=1

For consistency you may also want to change the ipv4 example to match (I
believe that conf/all/forwarding is equivalent to ip_forward):

  # Uncomment the next line to enable packet forwarding for IPv4
  #net/ipv4/conf/all/forwarding=1

Wishlist: consider using . rather than / as a delimiter, since this
is what sysctl uses on output. If nothing else, choosing one style over
the other, rather than mixing the two:

  #kernel.domainname = example.com
  #net/ipv4/icmp_echo_ignore_broadcasts=1

I've attached it to this email.

I can't find anything bad in your install.log file.

1. Are there any files in /usr/share/xemacs21/site-lisp/gnus? Do
you have *.elc files there?

2. How about running this command?

# dpkg-reconfigure gnus

Bug#341090: filenames longer than 161 are truncated

2005-11-28 Thread Robert Millan
Package: amule
Severity: normal

Hi!

I've found something weird when using the search function. It seems filenames
longer than 161 are truncated to this length.

The search function itself doesn't seem to operate on the truncated part of the
filename, so any words you were using to search that are in that part of the
name will not be considered. Also, the file extension is lost, so amule won't
be able to determine the file type. So if the user was looking for Videos,
and this file is a video, it won't appear either.

I'm not sure if this problem is in the uploader or downloader client, but in any
case it's an aMule bug since both sides were running aMule on my tests :) (in
fact, both sides were the same one).

I think one should expect at least 255 char filenames to be supported, since
this is what NTFS supports on Winblows platforms.

Bug#341091: emacs-snapshot-gtk: Function of locally installed No Gnus overridden by the one of integrated Gnus

2005-11-28 Thread Ralf Angeli
Package: emacs-snapshot-gtk
Version: 1:20051124-1
Severity: normal

On my system I have No Gnus installed in
/usr/local/share/emacs/site-lisp/gnus and No Gnus is also used when
doing `M-x gnus RET'. However, when trying to display an article by
typing RET in the summary buffer I get a backtrace like this:

`

The problem seems to be that `mm-charset-to-coding-system' is used
from mm-util.elc which is shipped with emacs-snapshot and not the one
from mm-util.el(c) of No Gnus.

Doing `C-h f mm-charset-to-coding-system RET' results in this:

,
| mm-charset-to-coding-system is a compiled Lisp function in
`/usr/share/emacs/22.0.50/lisp/gnus/mm-util.elc'.
| (mm-charset-to-coding-system charset optional lbt)
`

Doing `M-x locate-library RET mm-util RET' however results in this:

,
| Library is file /usr/local/share/emacs/site-lisp/gnus/mm-util.elc
`

Is the function preloaded, autoloaded or dumped in some way? I
grepped through the sources and startup files to no avail. The only
suspicious statement I found was gnus/mm-util.el being mentioned in
loaddefs.el.

As a hint, the problem does not occur if I start Emacs with
`--no-site-file'.

As a workaround I moved the /usr/share/emacs/22.0.50/lisp/gnus
directory somewhere else but it would be nice to let the No Gnus
installation override the integrated one without moving directories
around. Unfortunately I don't know how.

Cheers,
Ralf

Bug#328276: Confirm Behaviour - Some insight

2005-11-28 Thread danni
Same problem here - Occurs when Application is compiled by GCC-4.0 -
Interestingly gdb indicates that the crash does not happen inside
Freewheeling but somewhere else in the system.

This behaviour goes away when the application is compiled using GCC-3.3 but I
am having onther issues with this... (might be related to application using
different gcc to libs). Tracking down the source of the problem would be very
helpful.

I get a simular issue with ICE at startup -- If this helps

Bug#340699: firestarter breaks nis

Subject: firestarter breaks nis
Package: firestarter
Version: 1.0.3-1.1

Justification: breaks unrelated software

Firestarter is a firewalling tool; nis is a network application. These are
not unrelated software.

Given that you can break *any* network application by means of a
misconfigured firewall, and given that your stated solution for this bug
was

to make a change to your *nis* config, not to your firestarter config, I
don't see any reason to treat this as a grave bug, either.

This is a workaround, not a solution.

In fact installation/start of firestarter breaks an otherwise working
configuration in nis. The really annoying part of the problem is that no
hints of what gets wrong is displayed by firestarter; no events etc.

The firewall is set up correctly, allowing all connections to the
desired private network. I would prefer to change the configuration via
firestarter, not nis. How should one set up firestarter to allow
broadcassting to 192.168.0.255 for a nis server apart from allowing all
connections to and from 192.168.0.0/24?

Presumably, allowing outbound broadcast packets to 192.168.0.255/32 on an
appropriate destination port and incoming udp packets from 192.168.0.0/24
on an appropriate source port would be correct?

As far as I know, YES.

I've never personally used firestarter, so I don't know whether it's
reasonable to expect all blocked inbound or outbound packets to generate
logging events. The package description says there's a real-time hit
monitor that shows attackers probing your machine; if it's the outbound
traffic that's being blocked, then that doesn't qualify as an attacker
probing the machine, so *I* don't have any expectation that such traffic
would generate log events. You may have a different expectation; if so, it
would help me to know why your expectation is different from mine.

To sum it up: the firewall is configured correctly,

This is patently false. If the firewall were configured correctly for your
application, the application would not fail. If you mean that the firewall
*cannot* be configured correctly, that would be a more serious bug, but I
haven't gathered that this is actually what you're saying.

Let's try to word it precisely: Firestarter is a front end gui
configuration tool for some scripts that set up the firewall. If you use
this front end to configure the firewall and set it up to allow *all*
outgoing connections plus all incoming connections on 192.168.0.0/24,
then nis on that subnet is broken. (Not 100% sure, but presumably either
the broadcast or its reply are blocked.) Therefore it appears indeed
that it is impossible to configure the firewall by firestarter in a way
that the default settings of nis work (ie. without the workaund).

Maybe the correct wording would be: The way the scripts set up the
firewall are apparently different from what is selected from the gui.

shows no logs

which could warrant a release-critical severity, depending on what the
normal logging policy is for firestarter.

According to the documentation found at
http://www.fs-security.com/docs/tutorial.php

`On the events page you will see all connections that the firewall has
terminated since you started the program.'

This is evidently not the case as far as nis is concerned. This is
precisely the reason, why it took me so much effort to find out the
reason for the unexpected failure of nis starting correctly.

This is not a definition, this is only an explanation of one type of package
relationship that *disqualifies* a bug for being of critical severity. :)
Software may be related in other ways than through dependency fields --
like I said, a firewall and a network application are another case of
related packages.

I see this now, sorry.

Of course I would like to help you in tracking down the problem; so if
you need more information or configuration or log files, please just let
me know.

Thanks,

Johannes

Comments/Problems:

The network setup worked very fine. Especially the hostname and domainname
detection through dns.

I changed to a smp kernel and got problems with the clock running much
too fast. I found some kernel options in some forums which solved the problem:
notsc no_timer_check

http://groups.google.de/group/linux.debian.ports.x86-64/browse_frm/thread/4aae438ff566835a/d3db60cab325acc6?lnk=stq=linux+amd+dual+core+clockrnum=6hl=de#d3db60cab325acc6

I added two SATA disks configured as RAID 1. After manual
configuration with mdadm the RAID was working like expected. After
reboot it disappeared. I had to add sata_nv to /etc/modules
manually to solve this.

Install logs and other status info is available in /var/log/debian-installer/.

Bug#341097: initscripts: Double output of Done checking root file system in checkroot.sh during bootup

2005-11-28 Thread Alexej Sveshnikov
Package: initscripts
Version: 2.86.ds1-6
Severity: minor

During bootup the checkroot.sh produces the following output:

Will now check root filesystem.
result of the check
Done checking root file system
* Done checking root file system

This is caused by a typo in the script, where construction 'if [condition]
action1 then action2 fi'
is used instead of 'if [condition] ; then action1 else action2 fi'.
Additionaly, the FSCKCODE should be
set to $? before this 'if' sentence and immediately after the fsck command.
Currently it is set to $? after
the output of 'Done checking root file system' message and represents in fact
the result of 'echo' command,
which is always zero. Thus, the subsequent tests of FSCKCODE variable do not
perform the correct action.
The patch to the checkroot.sh script follows:

The only thing out of the ordinary that I can think of is that I'm
playing omega in a 101x37 xterm. I was playing with an old .omegarc
file for a while, and it was much worse, then, but since I deleted it
and recreated it it still crashes quite a bit, almost always when I go
down a stairway or through a door or in some other way require it to
 generate a new area.

Do you still have this problem? I still haven't been able to reproduce
it, and noone else has filed bugs about this. I need more information
(for example, savegames right before a situation where it crashes),
otherwise I will close this bug.

 But if I rename /etc/rcS.d/S40ifrename to /etc/rcS.d/S40aifrename
to make it run before hotplug, it works.

I haven't responded to this bug, because there was some discussion at
that time about ifrename, hotplug and udev, but forgot about this bug
afterwards. Anyway, hotplug at some point ran ifrename itself, and
people are saying that hotplug and/or udev will do the renaming itself.

From the original Eclipse build I saw that the missing class MemoryRealm is

Maybe this is because it uses Tomcat5 instead of Tomcat4 like the original?

Bug#341102: RFA: trophy -- A 2D car racing action game

2005-11-28 Thread Guus Sliepen
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the trophy package.

The package description is:
Trophy is a single-player racing game for Linux. Even though the goal is
basically to finish the laps as the first, Trophy is an action game which
offers much more than just a race. Lots of extras enable unusual features
for races such as shooting, putting mines and many others.

Trophy is a nice but limited game. Upstream is not working on this game
anymore, and there are a number of open bugs, mostly about memory leaks
and segmentation faults. These problems are becoming more and more
evident, I guess it is bit rot taking place. This package needs a
developer with C++ knowledge that wants to find the bugs in the source
code and keep the package in shape, despite the inactive upstream. If
noone wants to adopt this package, I will request for its removal from
Debian.

No, that doesn't work:

would mark bug#123456 (in some other package) as found in version

I think that the bts command should continue to provide a 1:1 mapping
with bug manipulation commands in the BTS. If you find the BTS's choices

 get it fixed there first.

Sounds almost reasonable, but I do like the idea of bts providing a

Bug#341104: linux-patch-debian-2.6.14: dropping EXTRAVERSION from official kernel patches

2005-11-28 Thread Pascal A. Dupuis
Package: linux-patch-debian-2.6.14
Version: 2.6.14-4
Severity: minor

Hello,

I've just compiled a new kernel from
linux-patch-debian-2.6.14_2.6.14-4_all.deb,
and I noticed this includes the official patches 2.6.14.1 up to
2.6.14.3, except from the extraversion. So, by default the new kernel
will be called vmlinuz-2.6.14, possibly overriding a previous
2.6.14. Furthermore, it is difficult to tell which version you
run exactly. The fix is to run make-kpkg as:
make-kpkg --added-patches debian --append-to-version .3 kernel-image
 modules-image

Is there some good reason to drop the EXTRAVERSION from official
patches ? Why not keep it, or even modify it as something like
.3-debian so that a 'uname -a' will make clear that the actual
kernel is a 2.6.14, patched up to interim revision .3, and with
specific debian patches ?

sounds nice (and it is similar to the way 'svn commit' or 'cvs commit'

also, bts done #bugnumber would ask for a version if it was not

The point is, the proper use of the Version: pseudo-header

and that is not a place people will easily look at.

I acknowledge that http://www.debian.org/Bugs/Developer talks about

misunderstand it, may forget about it , or downplay the importance of it.

Whereas a command such as

After all, that is the reason why I (we) prefer to

Bug#341091: emacs-snapshot-gtk: Function of locally installed No Gnus overridden by the one of integrated Gnus

2005-11-28 Thread Romain Francoise
Ralf Angeli [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

Doing `C-h f mm-charset-to-coding-system RET' results in this:

 ,
 | mm-charset-to-coding-system is a compiled Lisp function in
 `/usr/share/emacs/22.0.50/lisp/gnus/mm-util.elc'.
 | (mm-charset-to-coding-system charset optional lbt)
 `

That indicates that mm-util from emacs-snapshot was loaded before
load-path was set to the Gnus installation in /usr/local. Perhaps via
an autoload... (This command uses load-history.)

Doing `M-x locate-library RET mm-util RET' however results in this:

 ,
 | Library is file /usr/local/share/emacs/site-lisp/gnus/mm-util.elc
 `

That means that load-path was correct when you called locate-library,
and it found the version in /usr/local. (This command uses
locate-file.)

Is the function preloaded, autoloaded or dumped in some way?

Not as far as I know.

As a hint, the problem does not occur if I start Emacs with
 `--no-site-file'.

Probably because the emacsen-common scripts play with load-path...

Could you send me your config files? In particular, how do you set
load-path to point to the Gnus installation in /usr/local? Or do you
have a subdirs.el file in /usr/local/share/emacs/site-lisp? (With a
default emacs-snapshot installation, it shouldn't be picked up
automatically by just installing it in /usr/local.)

As a sidenote, are you aware that the gnus package in Debian is No Gnus
as well?

Thanks,

kdelibs has now been uploaded and passed NEW for the allocator transition,
thus making dbus uninstallable, and halting the upload of kdebase, etc. You
should either now rebuild against the latest kdelibs, or (better yet)
remove the kdelibs dependency altogether.

Hopefully you'll be able to upload soon.

Bug#341101: eclipse-platform-common: Eclipse Help not working - Solution?

2005-11-28 Thread Markus Bauer
I just found out that the missing class
(org/apache/catalina/realm/MemoryRealm)
is located in catalina-optional.jar instead of catalina.jar.
But this jar file is not referenced in the manifest.mf, so eclipse does
not know about it.

So I added catalina-optional.jar to
plugins/org.eclipse.tomcat_4.1.30.1/META-INF/MANIFEST.MF
and *wow* it worked - the help system is running!

Bug#337619: rebuilding ipw2200 on 2.6.14-3

2005-11-28 Thread Holger Levsen
Hi,

I cannot confirm this (What DID work was).

With linux-source-2.6.14-3 I had to disable the ipw2200-driver and the
ieee80211-subsystem, build the kernel, build the modules from the
ieee80211-source and ipw2200-source packages until I had a working
ipw2200-driver again.

As it's not sensible to disable the ieee80211-subsystem in debians kernel, I
would like to ask whether the latest ieee80211-driver as well as the
ipw2200-driver can/will be integrated into the debian kernel sources if
they're not included in the upstream kernel source fast enough...

regards,
Holger

 Hello,

I've just compiled a new kernel from
 linux-patch-debian-2.6.14_2.6.14-4_all.deb,
and I noticed this includes the official patches 2.6.14.1 up to
2.6.14.3, except from the extraversion. So, by default the new kernel
will be called vmlinuz-2.6.14, possibly overriding a previous
2.6.14. Furthermore, it is difficult to tell which version you
run exactly. The fix is to run make-kpkg as:
 make-kpkg --added-patches debian --append-to-version .3 kernel-image
  modules-image

Is there some good reason to drop the EXTRAVERSION from official
patches ? Why not keep it, or even modify it as something like
.3-debian so that a 'uname -a' will make clear that the actual
kernel is a 2.6.14, patched up to interim revision .3, and with
 specific debian patches ?

Please have a look at /proc/version, which should have all the info you need :

Bug#328442: same here...

2005-11-28 Thread Holger Levsen
Hi,

wavemon used to work with 2.6.12 and ieee80211-1.1.5 and ipw-1.0.6, after I
switched to 2.6.14 and ieee80211-1.1.6 and ipw-1.0.8 it stopped working (with
the above errormessage). Recompiling the wavemon-package from sid sources
didnt help.

Bug#341091: emacs-snapshot-gtk: Function of locally installed No Gnus overridden by the one of integrated Gnus

2005-11-28 Thread Ralf Angeli
* Romain Francoise (2005-11-28) writes:

Could you send me your config files?

I hope we don't need this because I'd have to clean it up quite
extensively. (c; The problem even occurs if no user init file is
loaded.

If you start Emacs with `emacs -q' a subsequent `C-h f
mm-charset-to-coding-system RET' will show that the function is
already defined and that the version of the integrated Gnus is used.

If you start Emacs with `emacs -q -no-site-file' it won't be defined.

In particular, how do you set
load-path to point to the Gnus installation in /usr/local?

I do this with a

(add-to-list 'load-path
 (expand-file-name /usr/local/share/emacs/site-lisp/gnus))

statement in my .emacs file.

 Or do you
 have a subdirs.el file in /usr/local/share/emacs/site-lisp?

No.

As a sidenote, are you aware that the gnus package in Debian is No Gnus
 as well?

I seem to remember you mentioning it on emacs-devel but probably
forgot about it in the meantime. And a version string of
5.10.6-1.NO.20051020-1 doesn't really indicate that the package
contains No Gnus.

Anyway, traditionally I build it myself and am reasonably happy with
it. Traditionally I build Emacs myself as well but the fan on my
notebook died last Friday and the temporary replacement machine does
not have the resources for building Emacs. So for that I am using
emacs-snapshot right now. BTW, thanks for providing it. (c:

Bug#341037: phpgroupware has four circular Depends

2005-11-28 Thread Thomas Viehmann
Hi Bill,

Bill Allombert wrote:
Circular dependencies are known to cause problems during upgrade
between stable releases so we should try to get rid of them.
I don't think your analysis completely applies to this case.

One possible solution to this would be to fold the dependencies into one
package.

Kind regards

Bug#341110: tetex-extra: Should remove /var/lib/texmf/web2c/mpost.mem on purge | remove?

2005-11-28 Thread Kevin B. McCarty
Package: tetex-extra
Version: 3.0-10
Severity: minor

Hello,

Pursuant to bug #340890, I found that it is possible to run MetaPost
after installing and then purging tetex-extra, but not if tetex-extra
was never installed. This behavior is dependent on the history of the
system so I feel it is undesirable.

The specific file that permits MetaPost to run after purging tetex-extra
is /var/lib/texmf/web2c/mpost.mem , which is apparently created when
tetex-extra is installed, but not deleted when the package is removed.
Therefore I think that this file should be deleted in the prerm or
postrm of tetex-extra on purge or remove.

The failure to delete this file seems to be a regression. Previous
versions of tetex-extra did remove the file; see for instance
http://lists.debian.org/debian-tetex-maint/2004/08/msg00305.html
If we look at the postrm file for tetex-extra 3.0-10, we find this
function:

remove_formats(){
  for format in $EXTRA_FORMATS; do
rm -f /var/lib/texmf/web2c/$format
basename=${format%.*}
rm -f /var/lib/texmf/web2c/$basename.log
  done
}

but $EXTRA_FORMATS is never defined in the script.

Bug#341113: mozilla-firefox: /usr/bin/firefox script could create file with name 2. instead of printing error message

2005-11-28 Thread Alexej Sveshnikov
Package: mozilla-firefox
Version: 1.0.7-1
Severity: minor

If user runs firefox through sudo and the home directory for the sudo user is
not specified in /etc/passwd,
then /usr/bin/firefox script creates file with name 2. containing the error
message and possibly overwrites
file with the same name. The typo is on line 33:

echo Could not find the correct home directory. Please use the -H option of
sudo. 2.

The final dot should be deleted:
