Bug#409244: initramfs doesn't include the udev firmware helper

2007-02-01 Thread Josip Rodin
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.85e

Hi,

The other day I tried to boot a Sun Fire 280R that works nicely with kernel
2.4.30; however, it didn't work, because the qla2xxx driver can't find
the firmware image, and it fails to load properly, meaning I can't access
the hard disks in the machine, and... flop. :)

I worked around this by including the proprietary file downloaded from the
URL provided in kernel config help, ql2200_fw.bin, using a hook file.

It was necessary to load qla2xxx *after* init-premount, because it needs
udev to load in order to access firmware helper.

But, for udev to actually use the firmware helper, it sounds like this is
also needed:
copy_exec /lib/udev/firmware.agent /lib/udev/

After that, the hook file that installs into /lib/firmware also needed:
mkdir -p ${DESTDIR}/lib/firmware

Those two problems are more general; another cp/copy_exec for the actual
file is probably a matter for another package, with license issues sorting
and all that.

Cf. http://lists.debian.org/debian-sparc/2007/01/msg00074.html and
http://lists.debian.org/debian-sparc/2007/02/msg2.html

Bug#409245: Keybindings to scroll/pan image [instead of mouse clicking and dragging]

2007-02-01 Thread Don Armstrong
Package: feh
Severity: wishlist
Version: 1.3.4-2

The ability to scroll/pan an image in feh using the keyboard would be
really useful to me. [It's really the only minor annoyance I have with
feh, which otherwise is the best image viewer I've ever used.]

I don't know what would be the best keybindings for it, but
control+arrowkeys could work.

2007-02-01 Thread Dominique Dumont
Sean Kellogg [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

Would it be better to just keep the binary package as libmtp so that
end users don't have to hunt around for the correct package should
upstream continue to be a moving target?

The problem is that between end user and libmtp, you have an
application (like amarok for instance) which expects a specific soname.

Your proposal would need amarok to depend on libmtp version B while
other package may still require version B. In other words, you'd need
to synchronise the release of new version of libmtp with new version
of *all* application that use libmtp. This would be a nightmare.

This is well beyond the remit of normal Debian package maintenance.

Please disable the initial slash screen that appears in the middle of

HD), takes more than 15 minutes.

The appearing dialogs are also very hard to access during this initial
boot due to splash screen.

The screen resolution in this laptop is 1024 and some of the dialogs
do not even fit into the screen unless resized.

Hi,

The splash screen is NOT intrusive, and can be disabled very easy in
Konfigurator as already stated many times in
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=358664

Current KDE nor Krusader is intended to work on old hardware, as i
already mentioned before. You can always use a lightweight software (
e.g. Midnight Commander ) , or something else. There are many
commanders available.

I don't understand why you are so aggressive against the solution
provided as already mentioned before.

AFAIK there is only _one_ of many many many users who has a problem
with this issue.

There are much more important issues than continuing to argue about
this issue, it's a waste of precious time.

btw. Krusader is not developed by KDE people, but we are using the
KDE/Qt framework, we are a project that works independently from KDE.

phpBB on top of PHP5 using either the mysqli or mysql functions (but as
far as I can tell, only mysqli.so is actually loaded). The segfaults

Hi,

I've created a patch adding adduser to the depends and NMU'ed it to
DELAYED/0 according to

  http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2006/09/msg00020.html

In order to be as minimal invasive as possible I did not touch the
postrm as Masami did in his proposed patch.

Cheers,

Bastian

Bug#397904: [php-maint] Bug#397904: Another confirmation of this bug reproducing

2007-02-01 Thread Ondřej Surý
There is inneed some ABI incompatibility with libmysqlclient from
experimental. Downgrade your libmysqlclient15off to version from
unstable and you should be fine. This is in fact not a PHP bug, but
MySQL bug, but since Sean is in mysql team as well, I'll let him handle
this.

 Hi, all.

I'm getting similar segfault symptoms on this end from an installation
of Mediawiki on top of PHP5 using mysqli, and from an installation of
phpBB on top of PHP5 using either the mysqli or mysql functions (but as
far as I can tell, only mysqli.so is actually loaded). The segfaults
occur mid-request, but before any data can be sent to the client and I
can generally pin them down to specific function calls in the PHP
 scripts being compiled/run.

 Thanks,

 Elizabeth Fong

there was still an UI for this...

yes, it is set at 0 and indicated by FF to be changed by me.

We probably should set the default value to 0 instead of -1... it would
use system settings instead of system settings of 96, whichever is
greater.

the default of browser.display.screen_resolution or layout.css.dpi

layout.css.dpi. browser.display.screen_resolution is the older one and
is not used anymore.

understood. The latter is still accessible via the GUI (about:config), right?

Bug#409250: Rebuild with egg support

2007-02-01 Thread Julien Danjou
Package: python-flup
Version: 0.2126-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

In the last upload, it seems that egg support was desactivated because
the package was not built with python-setuptools installed.

This is easily fixable by changing build-depends to:

Build-Depends: debhelper (= 5.0.37.2), python-support (= 0.3), python-dev,
python-setuptools

Bug#203942: xfree86-common: [Xsession] want more flexible ssh-agent invocation

 Hi,

About 4 years ago, you reported a bug to the Debian BTS regarding
ssh-agent not being invocated flexibly enough by Xsession.
Did you reproduce this problem recently? If not, I will close this bug
 in the next weeks.

As far as I know nothing has changed since then.
The 90x11-common_ssh-agent tweaks $STARTUP so that ssh-agent is not
started until it is exec-ed in 99x11-common_start. So no script between
90 and 99 benefits from the ssh-agent context.

Bug#408116: dictionaries-common: some dictionaries appear incorrectly in /var/cache/dictionaries-common/ispell-dicts-list.txt

Please, tell me if the sqspell.php file that I attached to my last message
really suits the needs ofr your SquirrelMail pacakge. If the other
dict-common developers do not disagree, I will commit the changes.

But just using 'ispell -a -d' will miss some possibly important things,
here is what ispell-wraper calls for spanish,

ispell -w ñáàéèíìóòúùüÑÁÀÉÈÍÌÓÒÚÙÜ -T latin1 -B -d castellano zz.data

The -w part is redundant here (although for other languages might not be
redundant) as well as the -T part [although it was not originally, since
castellano default encoding was tex-shorthand ('a - á), something I
changed some time ago], which again might not be redundant for other dicts.
-B is OK here.

Thijs, did you try my last patch (using ispell-wrapper) to
plugins/squirrelspell/sqspell_config.php? If working I am more in favour of
something like that since it would require no changes in
dictionaries-common.

Meh. I'd seen this bug, but missed the fact it was RC somehow; I've
been holding off on uploading anything that wasn't of an RC nature in
the vain hope that we might actually release and the less changes the
better to achieve that.

Minimal changes you've made look fine; I'll include them when I next
upload.

Ah, okay.

I checked the upstream X code. They still generate and read localized

Yes, I think that's right, see my analysis at [1].

 So I don't think it
will change soon, especially if we ask them because we want to fix a
 dead package :)

Before, using thunderbird, I could drag and drop emails to move them

work. I can still right-click on an email and select the move to menu,
but this isn't as intuitive for rearranging mails between folders. This

It's great to see someone who knows what they are doing pick this up and run

 the right course of action.

I refer you to the following post on the libmtp mailing list:
 http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=31351176forum_id=48918

While obviously a joke, I don't know if upstream has decided on a
consistent so name, er, strategy. Would it be better to just keep the
binary package as libmtp so that end users don't have to hunt around for
the correct package should upstream continue to be a moving target?

Well, in the libmtp mailing list post you refer above, the developers seem
to be correctly coping with the SONAME now. It should not be a problem in
the future.

In any event, calling the binary package libmtp is against Policy:

http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-sharedlibs.html
http://www.netfort.gr.jp/~dancer/column/libpkg-guide/libpkg-guide.html#naminglibpkg

As a final thought, it would be great to get a package that includes all of
the example tools that are distributed by upstream... things like
mtp-detect, and so on. Any change you could put together a mtp-tools
 package?

This is a good idea and creating the new mtp-tools package is a no-brainer.
However, in order to be Policy-compliant we will have to provide man pages
for all those commands. Painful...

Bug#408446: (no subject)

2007-02-01 Thread Per Larsson
Well, after swapping all the CPU modules around (modules which also hold
the memory for each CPU)
it still comes up RED State Exception with the daily installer from
31st of January:
I'm no expert, but I assume that since each CPU and memory have changed
place another CPU/memory than previously
is used for booting. Since it still comes up faulty it indicates to me
that at least it's not a CPU or memory error ?
And if I go back to Solaris it works fine, and with Debian
testing/unstable netboot image initial boot works fine.
(With Debian testing/unstable it croaks with the Oops in the Cassini
driver..)
Please let me know if there are more things I can test, the SunFire box
is available for testing for quite a while :-)

Your patch has been applied and a new version uploaded (with minor

It would be great if you could test the new version and let us knows if it
works correctly. It should be available in the next daily built image,

 Thanks,

Tested with daily built from Feb 01 2007. Works correctly :-)

This is a good idea and creating the new mtp-tools package is a no-brainer.

Indeed, adding a mtp-tools package was straightforward. See [1].

I also fixed a problem with the udev rules file. The most recent
debian/changelog entry reads:

libmtp (0.1.3-0.2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Non-maintainer upload
  * Created package mtp-tools containing the programs distributed in the
examples directory
  * debian/control: Added my name to Uploaders

- Instead of installing debian/libmtp.rules, change the libmtp.rules
generated at build time to follow the Debian standards (MODE=660,
  GROUP=audio)

However, in order to be Policy-compliant we will have to provide man pages
 for all those commands. Painful...

Lintian yells several times when checking the package. I still have to fix
this.

Bug#409258: wordpress: attempt to create a link into /srv/www/, directory which may not exist

2007-02-01 Thread Hervé Eychenne
Package: wordpress
Version: 2.0.6-1
Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***

 Hi,

/usr/share/doc/wordpress/examples/setup-mysql tries to create a
symbolic link into /srv/www/, but the link creation fails if
/srv/www/ does not exist (which was the case for me).

[ -d /srv/www ] || mkdir -p /srv/www
should probably be added in the script just before
ln -s /usr/share/wordpress /srv/www/$DOMAIN

Thanks,

 Herve

Bug#409153: Add functionality which allows single entries to be exported

2007-02-01 Thread schönfeld / in-medias-res

Hi,

Stefan Völkel schrieb:

Hi,

please do explain this maybe-workaround. Cause i cannot see how XSLT can
be a workaround to not having the functionality to export a single entry
instead of the whole directory. A workaround is to export it to XML and
edit it. But thats not practibable if you do have about several hundreds
of accounts in your directory.

Bug#409259: German Translation Addition (tray icon menu)

2007-02-01 Thread Joachim Breitner
Package: gaim
Version: 1:2.0.0+beta5-9
Severity: normal
Tags: patch l10n

Hi,

the German translation misses a line at a very prominent place (“Blink
on new message” in the menu icon tray). This is quite ugly, as the rest
of gaim is very well translated. Could you please upload a gaim package
with the attached patch to unstable?

The freeze allows for updates that only change translations and I think
you can even raise the urgency.

Thank you,

Joachim

Bug#409260: audacity: FTBFS on GNU/kFreeBSD

2007-02-01 Thread Petr Salinger

Package: audacity
Severity: important
Version: 1.3.2-1
Tags: patch

Hi,

the current version of audacity has unsatisfied Build-Depends
on libasound2-dev under non-linux ports.

This package is able to use OSS under GNU/kFreeBSD,
with small tweaks it builds fine without libasound2-dev installed.
Please use attached patch to fix debian/control and to add
debian/patches/kfreebsd.patch with tweaks.

It would also be nice if you can ask upstream
to include changes in debian/patches/kfreebsd.patch.

Thanks in advance

Bug#407800: Bad interaction with gpg-agent

2007-02-01 Thread Vincent Danjean
severity 407800 important
thanks

  Hi,

I also hit this bug. With comments from Neil Williams, I 'solve'
it on my system by removing the gnupg-agent package and restarting
my gnome session.
However, making seahorse conflicting with gnupg-agent would not
be a correct fix : on a multi-users system, we should be able to
install both packages (not all users run under gnome : some may
want to use gpg-agent).

  Best regards

PS: I set the severity to 'important' but I would be very
unpleased if this package reach etch as it is. The current version
in testing is far better from my user point of view.

Bug#409244: initramfs doesn't include the udev firmware helper

2007-02-01 Thread maximilian attems
On Thu, Feb 01, 2007 at 08:56:12AM +0100, Josip Rodin wrote:

 Cf. http://lists.debian.org/debian-sparc/2007/01/msg00074.html and
 http://lists.debian.org/debian-sparc/2007/02/msg2.html

did you try to use firmware-qlogic?
afaik it has the necessary hooks.

This is strange, I cannot reproduce this in an up-to-date sid

Are you sure this is not a problem at your side? Is there something you

Bug#387717: fixed + NMU

2007-02-01 Thread Bastian Venthur
tags 387717 patch
stop

Hi,

I've created a patch and NMU'ed it to DELAYED/0 according to

  http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2006/09/msg00020.html

The patch is attached.

The problem was, that upstream renamed a few releases ago the binary
from tnftp to ftp -- but the maintainer forgot to adjust the postinst
and prerm scripts accordingly.

In order to keep my patch as non intrusive as possible I simply renamed
the binary back from ftp to tnftp. Installing and Purging the package
now works like a charm.

Cheers,

Bastian

and clean-up of src/gui/main.cpp.

The RAW colides with macro with the same name,
but as variable ttystate is static and write-only,
this can be simply deleted.

It would also be nice if you can ask upstream
to include this changes.

Thanks in advance

Petr

For good timing, MusE needs to set the real time clock (/dev/rtc) to a
higher clock rate, and raise its scheduling priority. Usually, only the root
user is allowed to do so. MusE can be installed \suid-root\, so that it
always runs with superuser capabilities. This is convenient, but programming
errors in MusE likely present a hazard for system security in this setup.

Para una buena temporización, MusE necesita que el reloj de tiempo real

Bug#409082: hard to get right device for hidups -- use a different device name

2007-02-01 Thread Arnaud Quette

Hi Joey,

2007/1/30, Joey Hess [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

Package: nut-usb
Version: 2.0.5-1
Severity: normal

My computer has several usbhid devices:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc/udev/rules.dls -l /dev/usb
total 0
crw-rw 1 root root 180, 96 Jan 30 14:26 hiddev0
crw-rw-r-- 1 root nut 180, 97 Jan 30 14:36 hiddev1
crw-rw 1 root root 180, 98 Jan 30 14:26 hiddev2
crw-rw 1 root lp 180, 0 Jan 30 14:26 lp0

It's impossible to predict what the device will be to hardcode it for the
hidups driver in in ups.conf. And newhidups with its probing doesn't seem
 to work.

There's a really easy fix for this, if you know udev. Just add this to the
end of 025_nut-usbups.rules, just before the ending LABEL:

GROUP==nut, NAME=ups%n

Now UPSes show up as /dev/ups1 etc.

Please consider doing this by default. Even systems that arn't bitten by
it currently can be: as soon as a second USB hid device is plugged in, their
nut can easily stop working at the next reboot. That can be bad.. Of course
there is an upgrade path issue, but I think it can be done.

If you decide not to do it by default, please at least document how to do it
in the package so that people who don't grok USB have a chance of getting
it working. Thanks..

well, newhidups is the way to go, since hidups (and its /dev/hidevX)
will be superceed in nut 2.2 release.

Though your proposition is interesting (and I've already thought about
the same when I made the initial hotplug 2 udev transition), newhidups
already offers the means (regex matching) to address the right unit,
using ie:

  vendor=regex
  product=regex
  serial=regex
  vendorid=regex
  productid=regex
  bus=regex

 Examples:

 -x vendor=Foo.Corporation.*

 -x vendorid=051d (APC)

 -x product=.*(Smart|Back)-?UPS.*

for more info, have a look at the newhidups manpage.
Note that I've not, for the moment, considered this approach since it
is a less stable way to address an exact unit than the regex way
above.

Anyway, I'll leave this bug open for further investigation.

thanks for your report,
Arnaud

Bug#409080: 025_nut-usbups.rules does not work for my back-ups rs 800

2007-02-01 Thread Arnaud Quette

Hi (again) Joey,

pleased to have you hard testing these packages ;-)

2007/1/30, Joey Hess [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

Package: nut-usb
Version: 2.0.5-1
Severity: normal

I have an APC Back-UPS RS 800:

Bus 001 Device 007: ID 051d:0002 American Power Conversion Back-UPS Pro
500/1000/1500

This device matches the APC rule in 025_nut-usbups.rules, but this rule was
not firing -- the device was owned by root.root:

SYSFS{idVendor}==051d, SYSFS{idProduct}==0002, MODE=664, GROUP=nut

I fixed this, and got the file owned by root.nut by commenting out this line:

#SUBSYSTEM!=usb_device, GOTO=nut-usbups_rules_end

The subsystem seems to be usb, not usb_device, so I was also able to
change it to this and have it work:

SUBSYSTEM!=usb, GOTO=nut-usbups_rules_end

Theory: It used to be usb_device, but is usb now. Looking at the libgphoto
rules file, it must have had the same issue, since it does this:

SUBSYSTEM==usb_device, GOTO=libgphoto2_rules_real
SUBSYSTEM==usb, GOTO=libgphoto2_rules_real
BUS!=usb, GOTO=libgphoto2_rules_end
...

thanks for this report. I'll upload -2 asap.

Bug#409081: rob focus when mouse fly over the inactive freemind window's node

2007-02-01 Thread Eric Lavarde - Debian
Hi,

can you please check if the issue appears as well with other Java/Swing
applications? One good possibility is http://jedit.sf.net/
What is your mouse over setup? (i.e. does focus change when you move
your mouse over a new window without clicking?)

Eric

LI Daobing said:
 Package: freemind

 Hello,

 1. How to reproduce:

 a. open freemind, and insert serveral node on it
 b. open a program (for example xterm), move/scale window to make it not
hide freemind's node
 c. make xterm's window active and on the top, freemind's not active and
on the bottom

 d. when you move mouse over(don't click) the node on one node of
freemind, you will find that freemind got active and become the top,
and xterm's window lost active and become the bottom

 2. It should

I don't think freemind should response to the mouse hover when it's not
active, so how about fix this bug or disable this feature, thanks.

Did you also try strace to see if ekiga can find the plugins?

So if there are some Debian Linux users running AMD64 unstable with an
up-to-date and working 64bit Ekiga, then my bugreport can be removed
 without question.

Andreas Henriksson replied to your bug report and says Ekiga works
without problems on his AMD64 system.
See http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=408407

I don't think your bug report should be removed, but as it doesn't seem
to affect all AMD64 users I think the severity should be lowered to
important as this is an RC bug otherwise.

Bug#409031: Sage new upstream

2007-02-01 Thread Alan Woodland

Hi,

The version of sage currently in etch should work with iceweasel/
ff2.0 as it stands. I applied a small patch for this.

My original plan was to delay updating sage until after etch
released. With all the delays though that's not looking like such a
good idea anymore, so I will probably look to making another upload
shortly once I've reviewed the feed sanitizing code.

Should you mean 1.3.6-5 together with 2.0.0.1+dfsg-2 please have a look
at the Feed Item List Toolbar in the Sidebar. The buttons there are
labelled and thus don't fit very well in the size a sidebar usually has.
Thus, the Mark All as Read etc. buttons are not visible.

I don't know if this is easy to fix, I just know that this was different
with FF1.5 and that my newer Sage on FF2 on Windows doesn't have this
problem.

Thanks for your work regards

Bug#407717: Steps to reproduce the bug

2007-02-01 Thread Alan Krempler
I found out that the crash does not occur if locale is selected under
Edit/Preferences/DateTime. Any setting other than locale crashes the
program when trying to display a register - even if the selected setting
would result in the same format as locale.

I will wait until the latest gnucash release appears in debian to see whether
the bug has been fixed in mainline. If not, I will post a bug report to
gnucash.org.

Bug#409153: Add functionality which allows single entries to be exported

2007-02-01 Thread Stefan Völkel
Hi,

you can export revelation data to an xml file:

?xml version=1.0 encoding=utf-8 ?
revelationdata version=0.4.7 dataversion=1

entry type=shell
namefoo/name
description/description
updated1170341697/updated
field id=generic-hostnamefoo/field
field id=generic-domaincom/field
field id=generic-usernamebar/field
field id=generic-passwordnfebDm2B/field
/entry
/revelationdata

Now you could create an XSLT file filtering by name, creating a new XML
file which you could import using revelation.

Its manual, but might be a workaround. Not sure how much work this will
create or save though.

Stefan

please do explain this maybe-workaround. Cause i cannot see how XSLT can
be a workaround to not having the functionality to export a single entry
instead of the whole directory. A workaround is to export it to XML and
edit it. But thats not practibable if you do have about several hundreds
 of accounts in your directory.

Bug#409269: icewm-common: No preferences file installed? No debian menu?

2007-02-01 Thread Neil Pilgrim
Package: icewm-common
Version: 1.2.28-4
Severity: normal

There does not seem to be a preferences file installed in /etc. I was
wondering why there was no debian menu present (even with menu
menu-xdg packages installed) - maybe this is related?

I know there has been a preferences file installed with a previous
version of icewm. If the intent is that an unchanged preferences file
in /etc is equivalent to a sample one in /usr and using default
compiled-in behaviour, then this seems reasonable except for it not
being clear *what* default values are being used.

Also, if the lack of a preferences file is related to no debian menu,
this is truely a bug.

Bug#406646: Reproducing segfault

2007-02-01 Thread Matthew Falls
Hi --

rafkill saves to the working directory. If you start it via the menu, this is
the home directory. But if you start via the command line, it's whatever
directory you happen to be in. You can reproduce the bug by starting in a
directory to which you don't have write permission.

I don't know if this is exactly the problem that the submitter is having, but
in any event the loadsave.cpp file should probably be patched to always save
files in ~/ or /var/games or wherever policy dictates.

Bug#407882: nut-usb from 2.0.4 doesn't work with nut 2.0.5, and vice versa

2007-02-01 Thread Arnaud Quette

hey Charles,

2007/1/22, Charles Lepple [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

Package: nut-usb
Version: 2.0.4-3
Severity: normal

The base nut package should probably conflict with nut-usb_2.0.4, and
nut-usb should depend on nut = 2.0.5 (due to the change in socket
names). Otherwise, users could easily upgrade the core package but miss
the other driver packages.

The same might be true for nut-snmp, but I don't have a SNMP-enabled UPS
to test that theory.

fully right, I've completely forgotten that one.

afaik it has the necessary hooks.

Oh, nice, thanks. It does all the same. Someone should have told me about
it; I should file a bug on that package for having a completely useless

Description: Binary firmware for QLOGIC
This package contains the binary firmware for QLOGIC.

apt-cache search qla2xxx returns nothing, and that's really easily fixable.

But, the existence of that package doesn't really help the installation
system, or any other driver which uses udev firmware.agent. It would be good
if at least the firmware helper was added by default - it's trivially small
overhead, and it helps reduce confusion for people trying to roll in their
own firmware images and whatnot.

Bug#401916:

2007-02-01 Thread David Härdeman
Looking at:
http://cvs.mandriva.com/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/gi/tools/draklive?revision=1.116view=markup

there's an interesting line which sleeps while the usb storage scanning
kernel thread is running (search the page for usb-stor-scan).

The usb scanning thread is called usb-stor-scan and the scsi scanning
threads are called scsi_scan_NUM (AFAIK).

So, as a workaround for Etch until this is fixed (presumably by upstream
changes to udev and/or the kernel), how about changing the following lines
in the udev initramfs script:

  udevtrigger
  udevsettle || true

to something like this:

  udevtrigger
  udevsettle || true
  while ps | grep -q [usb-stor-scan]; do
  sleep 1;
  done
  while ps | grep -q [scsi_scan_.*]; do
  sleep 1;
  done
  udevsettle || true
