Bug#409244: initramfs doesn't include the udev firmware helper
Package: initramfs-tools Version: 0.85e Hi, The other day I tried to boot a Sun Fire 280R that works nicely with kernel 2.4.30; however, it didn't work, because the qla2xxx driver can't find the firmware image, and it fails to load properly, meaning I can't access the hard disks in the machine, and... flop. :) I worked around this by including the proprietary file downloaded from the URL provided in kernel config help, ql2200_fw.bin, using a hook file. It was necessary to load qla2xxx *after* init-premount, because it needs udev to load in order to access firmware helper. But, for udev to actually use the firmware helper, it sounds like this is also needed: copy_exec /lib/udev/firmware.agent /lib/udev/ After that, the hook file that installs into /lib/firmware also needed: mkdir -p ${DESTDIR}/lib/firmware Those two problems are more general; another cp/copy_exec for the actual file is probably a matter for another package, with license issues sorting and all that. Sean Kellogg [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Would it be better to just keep the binary package as libmtp so that end users don't have to hunt around for the correct package should upstream continue to be a moving target? The problem is that between end user and libmtp, you have an application (like amarok for instance) which expects a specific soname. Your proposal would need amarok to depend on libmtp version B while other package may still require version B. In other words, you'd need to synchronise the release of new version of libmtp with new version of *all* application that use libmtp. This would be a nightmare. There is inneed some ABI incompatibility with libmysqlclient from experimental. Downgrade your libmysqlclient15off to version from unstable and you should be fine. Well, in the libmtp mailing list post you refer above, the developers seem to be correctly coping with the SONAME now. It should not be a problem in the future. Well, after swapping all the CPU modules around (modules which also hold the memory for each CPU) it still comes up RED State Exception with the daily installer from 31st of January: I'm no expert, but I assume that since each CPU and memory have changed place another CPU/memory than previously is used for booting. Bug#407800: Bad interaction with gpg-agent
severity 407800 important thanks Hi, I also hit this bug. With comments from Neil Williams, I 'solve' it on my system by removing the gnupg-agent package and restarting my gnome session. However, making seahorse conflicting with gnupg-agent would not be a correct fix : on a multi-users system, we should be able to install both packages (not all users run under gnome : some may want to use gpg-agent). Best regards PS: I set the severity to 'important' but I would be very unpleased if this package reach etch as it is. The current version in testing is far better from my user point of view. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bug#409244: initramfs doesn't include the udev firmware helper
On Thu, Feb 01, 2007 at 08:56:12AM +0100, Josip Rodin wrote: The other day I tried to boot a Sun Fire 280R that works nicely with kernel 2.4.30; however, it didn't work, because the qla2xxx driver can't find the firmware image, and it fails to load properly, meaning I can't access the hard disks in the machine, and... Cf. http://lists.debian.org/debian-sparc/2007/01/msg00074.html and http://lists.debian.org/debian-sparc/2007/02/msg2.html did you try to use firmware-qlogic? afaik it has the necessary hooks. best regards -- maks -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#387717: fixed + NMU
tags 387717 patch stop Hi, I've created a patch and NMU'ed it to DELAYED/0 according to http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2006/09/msg00020.html The patch is attached. The problem was, that upstream renamed a few releases ago the binary from tnftp to ftp -- but the maintainer forgot to adjust the postinst and prerm scripts accordingly. In order to keep my patch as non intrusive as possible I simply renamed the binary back from ftp to tnftp. Installing and Purging the package now works like a charm. Bug#409262: fwbuilder: FTBFS on GNU/kFreeBSD
Package: fwbuilder Severity: important Version: 2.1.8-1 Tags: patch Hi, the current version fails to build on GNU/kFreeBSD. It needs entry in configure.in/confiure and clean-up of src/gui/main.cpp. The RAW colides with macro with the same name, but as variable ttystate is static and write-only, this can be simply deleted. It would also be nice if you can ask upstream to include this changes. Thanks in advance Petr -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#409082: hard to get right device for hidups -- use a different device name
Hi Joey, 2007/1/30, Joey Hess [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Package: nut-usb Version: 2.0.5-1 Severity: normal My computer has several usbhid devices: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc/udev/rules.dls -l /dev/usb total 0 crw-rw 1 root root 180, 96 Jan 30 14:26 hiddev0 crw-rw-r-- 1 root nut 180, 97 Jan 30 14:36 hiddev1 crw-rw 1 root root 180, 98 Jan 30 14:26 hiddev2 crw-rw 1 root lp 180, 0 Jan 30 14:26 lp0 It's impossible to predict what the device will be to hardcode it for the hidups driver in in ups.conf. And newhidups with its probing doesn't seem to work. There's a really easy fix for this, if you know udev. Just add this to the end of 025_nut-usbups.rules, just before the ending LABEL: GROUP==nut, NAME=ups%n Now UPSes show up as /dev/ups1 etc. Please consider doing this by default. Even systems that arn't bitten by it currently can be: as soon as a second USB hid device is plugged in, their nut can easily stop working at the next reboot. That can be bad.. Of course there is an upgrade path issue, but I think it can be done. If you decide not to do it by default, please at least document how to do it in the package so that people who don't grok USB have a chance of getting it working. Thanks.. well, newhidups is the way to go, since hidups (and its /dev/hidevX) will be superceed in nut 2.2 release. Though your proposition is interesting (and I've already thought about the same when I made the initial hotplug 2 udev transition), newhidups already offers the means (regex matching) to address the right unit, using ie: vendor=regex product=regex serial=regex vendorid=regex productid=regex bus=regex Examples: -x vendor=Foo.Corporation.* -x vendorid=051d (APC) -x product=.*(Smart|Back)-?UPS.* for more info, have a look at the newhidups manpage. Note that I've not, for the moment, considered this approach since it is a less stable way to address an exact unit than the regex way above. Anyway, I'll leave this bug open for further investigation. thanks for your report, Arnaud -- Linux / Unix Expert - MGE UPS SYSTEMS - RD Dpt Network UPS Tools (NUT) Project Leader - http://www.networkupstools.org/ Debian Developer - http://people.debian.org/~aquette/ OpenSource Developer - http://arnaud.quette.free.fr/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#409080: 025_nut-usbups.rules does not work for my back-ups rs 800
Hi (again) Joey, pleased to have you hard testing these packages ;-) 2007/1/30, Joey Hess [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Package: nut-usb Version: 2.0.5-1 Severity: normal I have an APC Back-UPS RS 800: Bus 001 Device 007: ID 051d:0002 American Power Conversion Back-UPS Pro 500/1000/1500 This device matches the APC rule in 025_nut-usbups.rules, but this rule was not firing -- the device was owned by root.root: SYSFS{idVendor}==051d, SYSFS{idProduct}==0002, MODE=664, GROUP=nut I fixed this, and got the file owned by root.nut by commenting out this line: #SUBSYSTEM!=usb_device, GOTO=nut-usbups_rules_end The subsystem seems to be usb, not usb_device, so I was also able to change it to this and have it work: SUBSYSTEM!=usb, GOTO=nut-usbups_rules_end Theory: It used to be usb_device, but is usb now. Looking at the libgphoto rules file, it must have had the same issue, since it does this: SUBSYSTEM==usb_device, GOTO=libgphoto2_rules_real SUBSYSTEM==usb, GOTO=libgphoto2_rules_real BUS!=usb, GOTO=libgphoto2_rules_end ... thanks for this report. Bug#409031: Sage new upstream
Hi, The version of sage currently in etch should work with iceweasel/ ff2.0 as it stands. I applied a small patch for this. My original plan was to delay updating sage until after etch released. With all the delays though that's not looking like such a good idea anymore, so I will probably look to making another upload shortly once I've reviewed the feed sanitizing code. The buttons there are labelled and thus don't fit very well in the size a sidebar usually has. Thus, the Mark All as Read etc. buttons are not visible. Bug#407717: Steps to reproduce the bug
I found out that the crash does not occur if locale is selected under Edit/Preferences/DateTime. Any setting other than locale crashes the program when trying to display a register - even if the selected setting would result in the same format as locale. I will wait until the latest gnucash release appears in debian to see whether the bug has been fixed in mainline. If not, I will post a bug report to gnucash.org. Bug#409269: icewm-common: No preferences file installed? No debian menu?
Package: icewm-common Version: 1.2.28-4 Severity: normal There does not seem to be a preferences file installed in /etc. I was wondering why there was no debian menu present (even with menu menu-xdg packages installed) - maybe this is related? I know there has been a preferences file installed with a previous version of icewm. If the intent is that an unchanged preferences file in /etc is equivalent to a sample one in /usr and using default compiled-in behaviour, then this seems reasonable except for it not being clear *what* default values are being used. Also, if the lack of a preferences file is related to no debian menu, this is truely a bug. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-3-amd64 Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) icewm-common depends on no packages. Bug#406646: Reproducing segfault
Hi -- rafkill saves to the working directory. If you start it via the menu, this is the home directory. But if you start via the command line, it's whatever directory you happen to be in. You can reproduce the bug by starting in a directory to which you don't have write permission. Bug#401916:
Looking at: http://cvs.mandriva.com/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/gi/tools/draklive?revision=1.116view=markup there's an interesting line which sleeps while the usb storage scanning kernel thread is running (search the page for usb-stor-scan). The usb scanning thread is called usb-stor-scan and the scsi scanning threads are called scsi_scan_NUM (AFAIK). So, as a workaround for Etch until this is fixed (presumably by upstream changes to udev and/or the kernel), how about changing the following lines in the udev initramfs script: udevtrigger udevsettle || true to something like this: udevtrigger udevsettle || true while ps | grep -q [usb-stor-scan]; do sleep 1; done while ps | grep -q [scsi_scan_.*]; do sleep 1; done udevsettle || true -- David Härdeman -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
