Bug#417396: quotatool: sometimes fail to read correct block device

2007-05-14 Thread Vincent . McIntyre

just to folow up on this.

I did some tests with real filesystems on block devices, instead of
loopback devices, on an etch system that previously exhibited the bug.
(nis 3.17-6, libc6 2.3.6.ds1-13)

While the system still showed the bug with ext3 filesystem images mounted
via /dev/loopN, it did not occur with ext3 filesystems on real block
devices like /dev/hda8.

It appears this issue is confined only to loopback devices and in
some circumstances. I could not see any obvious errors in the C code
that handles such devices but I only made a brief inspection.

Cheers
Vince

Are you sure you want to keep your own language.dat? This creates the
problems, I am quite sure.

There may be other deads in the .texmf-var directory. If you do NOT want
to have user adaptions to the system files, please remove (or save to
another place) the two directories
.texmf-config
.texmf-var
in your home dir. Then rerun the configure step and it should work.

Bug#423425: xserver-xorg-input-evtouch: stack corruption on touch

   There is some bug in the evtouch driver that causes X to lock up;
attaching gdb remotely (or running X inside gdb) shows stack
corruption with no backtrace available. It happens when I first
physically touch the screen; it does not seem to happen on move. It is
otherwise unpredictable -- i've had it not crash for as few as ~30ish as
well more than several thousand before breaking.

by the way, as the evtouch driver is the same as etch/lenny/sid, did you
eventually notice the problem also with earlier versions of X.org?
I've been using the driver for a long time without much problem, I just
started having those random freezes one month ago (but I can't really
tell if they are due to an xserver-xorg upgrade...)

This definitely didn't happen with Xorg 7.0, and I'm moderately
confident the upgrade to 7.2 is to blame -- but calibration drift
issues made me not stop using the touchscreen regularly so I can't be
confident 7.1 was crash-free.

My aptitude log implies that most of 7.2 was rolled out on 30 Apr,
with some libraries leaking in starting on 9 Apr.

I'm confident it's not kernel related.

Before 7.0 I was using the (unpackaged) usbtouch driver instead, but
I can't compare it any more because of a dramatic ABI change.

 - robert jacobs

P.S. I'm currently in desperately writing thesis mode -- i'll try
rolling back to 7.1 using snapshot.debian.net in 3 weeks when
deadlines aren't looming over my head.

AFAIK this can be handled by a binary NMU, thus Cc:ing Steve, and
 closing the bug.

Steve, can you schedule a binNMU of smc on i386? I checked that smc's
dependency on smc-data is versioned with = ${source:Version}, so this
 should work.

Done.

Bug#423730: xterm: Default options prevents to run ncurses applications like aptitude, with russian koi8 encoding

2007-05-14 Thread Roman Galeyev
Package: xterm
Version: 222-1etch2
Severity: important
Tags: l10n patch

While trying to run aptitude in default installation of etch with system
locale set to KOI8-R it runs, but shows immidiatly help window,
and there is no way to exit it, pressing keys just reopen help window
again and again.

It could be easily fixed with -k8 option in xterm,
or setting *AllowC1Printable: true resource in
/etc/X11/app-defaults/XTerm.

But it took so much time for me to figure it out,
so I guess it should be the system default.

Under what circumstances would they be able to check this using this

By portscanning the host.

Btw - has #156378 mtr busy-waits when paused been closed? It seems to be

I meant to write that *bugs.debian.org/mtr* doesn't show it.

 yes, this bug still exists.

You still haven't explained why the app needs GLUT_ALPHA.

I noticed also that the error

(EE) MGA(0): Static buffer allocation failed, not initializing the DRI
(EE) MGA(0): Need at least 22500 kB video memory at this resolution, bit depth

is unexpected and it also occurs if I reserve 256MB in the BIOS.

I assume you're referring to the AGP aperture size here, whereas the
above is about the amount of video RAM on the card. As the error
indicates, the only ways to overcome that are to reduce the virtual
resolution or depth (or to solder more video RAM onto the card ;).

first of all I would like to say thank you for your work, the amavis

Naturally it works without problems if dspam is not installed, but

Thank you and regards...

Bug#423739: libgl1-mesa-dri: banding in rendering when using blending for transparency

2007-05-14 Thread Dan Torop
Package: libgl1-mesa-dri
Version: 6.5.2-4
Severity: normal

When using blending for transparency, banding occurs in the output and colors
have a greenish cast. This can be seen via indirect rendering or with r200 DRI.

Attached is a program to demonstrate this and a makefile. Two images show the
banded (buggy) and 50% gray (expected) output.

Here is a breakdown of the behavior for various versions of Mesa curently in
Debian, and the last two vanilla Mesa versions:

versionindirect renderingr200 DRI on
   --
Debian 6.5.1-0.6 banding 50% gray
Debian 6.5.2-4 banding banding
Debian 6.5.3~rc3-1 banding banding

released 6.5.3 (DRI) banding 50% gray
released 6.5.3 (xlib) 50% gray n/a

Unless I'm totally making a hash of diagnosing this, it seems that:

- Somehow the Debian-compiled versions of Mesa exhibit a bug which
vanilla version of Mesa does not exhibit??

- There is an inconsistency between indirect and direct rendering (at
least for the R200) in Mesa. I can't speak to cards besides the
  R200.

I'm reporting this against libgl1-mesa-dri, though perhaps it could
as easily be against libgl1-mesa-glx or the mesa source package?

Please excuse me if I am utterly flubbing the testing of this and it
isn't a real bug. I'd be very excited if it were reproducible on
another computer...or if it turned out to not be reproducible and
was a result of a silly error here.

As explained in [1], Lenny will ship with the latest PostgreSQL only,
which is currently 8.2. Recently, the last reverse dependency of

I also filed bugs against the reverse dependencies of postgresql-8.1.
This will still take a while, I'll track the progress.

Bug#422830: binutils: ld segfaults when linking (C++?) PIC object with non-PIC object

2007-05-14 Thread Sven Neumann
Same problem here, the linker crashes with a segmentation fault.
Downgrading to binutils 2.17cvs20070426-4 fixes it.

The severity of this bug should better be increased so that it doesn't
hit lenny.

Bug#423709: Chokes on .css/.js with Content-Encoding: gzip

2007-05-14 Thread Daniel Richard G.
On Mon, 2007 May 14 08:40:22 +0200, Mike Hommey wrote:

Could you install mozilla-livehttpheaders, open tools-live http
headers, and check out the headers the server sends and post them here ?

Oh, f***... the server is sending Content-Encoding: gzip, gzip, which
apparently means that mod_gzip is compressing the already-gzipped CSS and
Javascript content. (These live as static .css.gz/.js.gz files on the
server, and are served using a non-mod_gzip content-negotiation mechanism.)

So that's it, then. My server provider has a misconfigured mod_gzip. The
whole problem goes away when I explicitly disable mod_gzip with
mod_gzip_on No.

Sorry for not catching this sooner---this behavior did not show up with
text/html (see below), nor with lynx -head, which was what I was using to
test the server response.

(FWIW, Opera and Safari did load the page correctly, which leaves open the
question of whether gzip, gzip should be handled in a more graceful way.)

Bug#396993: xserver-xorg-video-nv: Xserver crashes machine completely

2007-05-14 Thread Hadmut Danisch
Hi,

sorry, I am currently on vacation in Australia. I'll deal with the problem
when I'm back in Germany, because the computer with that particular
problem is there.

regards
Hadmut

 Hi,

Several months ago, you reported a bug to the Debian BTS regarding a
crash of the X server with the nv driver. Did you reproduce this problem
recently? With the latest xserver-xorg-core 1.3 and
xserver-xorg-video-nv 2.0.2 from unstable? I don't see any backtrace in
your logs, there should be one in the server is crashing.

 Thanks,
 Brice

Bug#423774: aptitude: Asssertion failed and /var/cache/apt/pkgcache.bin trashed

2007-05-14 Thread Tobias Frost
Package: aptitude
Version: 0.4.4-4
Severity: important

Now it happend a second time within a week, so time to file it as a bug.

I invoked aptitude update; aptitude -i and after the update, the
following assertion failed:

Nicht gefangene Ausnahme:
../../../src/generic/problemresolver/problemresolver.h:2216:
generic_problem_resolverPackageUniverse::generic_problem_resolver(int,
int, int, int, unsigned int, int, const PackageUniverse) [with
PackageUniverse = aptitude_universe]: Assertion
bd.broken_under(solution::root_node(initial_broken, universe,
weights)) failed.

After this, the pkgcache.bin seems to be in a very bad shape. Aptitude
refuses to start, and apt-get is panicing too, saying that about every
package installed has dependecny problems.

Removing the file pkgcache.bin cures the problem (unfortunatly I did not
preserve the offending file, but the next occurence, I will)

Bug#423771: numactl: built on hppa, s390, but no support in kernel?

2007-05-14 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: numactl
Version: 0.9.11-3
Severity: important

Hi Ian,

I see in the numactl changelog that as of 0.9.10-1, the package is only
being built on those architectures that support the numa syscalls. But is
that really the right set of architectures to build on? From what I can
see, neither s390 nor hppa has support for CONFIG_NUMA in the kernel, so
perhaps numactl shouldn't be built for these archs either?

Also, it looks to me that mipsel is missing from the arch list, since mips
in the kernel includes both mips and mipsel.

Cheers,

Bug#423775: xserver-xorg-core: Xorg freezes on a powermac7,3

2007-05-14 Thread Charles Plessy
Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.1.1-21
Severity: normal

Dear X11 task force,

I am afraid that I can not provide much more information to this bug.
Can you give me instructions about what to do before or after the next
freezing?

When Xorg freezes, the machine is still accessible by ssh, the mouse
pointer still moves, but the keyboard is ignored: not only crtl-alt-F1
do not swich to the console, but the caps lock led is not swiched on
when pressing the caps lock key. Nothing except the mouse pointer moves
on the screen.

I tried to kill suspects (firefox-bin, nautilus, ...), but nothing
happened until I killed Xorg, which was eating 99% of the CPU.

The freezes happen unexpectedly. In the past I suspected network access
to samba shares to be the cause, but this time, they were not mounted.

.xsession-errors was unchanged for 40 minutes before the crash.

What can we do to understant better the causes of these freezes ?

Have a nice day,

Bug#423780: /usr/sbin/smbd: does not log warning when login is tried with non-existent users

2007-05-14 Thread Marc Haber
Package: samba
Version: 3.0.24-6
Severity: minor
File: /usr/sbin/smbd

I do not have too much experience with samba and have just called
smbpassword on my user account to set a password (which succeeded
without warning) and then spent the next 30 minutes debugging why no
login was possible. smbpasswd -a mh (as root) was necessary.

In these situation, with log level 5, all that was found in the log
file was that smbd was trying to log me in as root. It neither said
that I was trying to log in as mh, nor that the user I was trying to
log in as was not existent or not activated. This should be improved.

Greetings
Marc

Bug#423182: numactl: should compile libnuma.a

2007-05-14 Thread Brice.Goglin
Hi,

I agree with Samuel's request. A good reason to go against upstream
wishes is that upstream is wrong :) Static libs are definitely very
useful, and even sometimes required (when you want to link against a
program that for some reason cannot be dynamically linked). And there is
nothing specific in libnuma that could justify that almost all other lib
packages provide static libs while libnuma does not. For instance,
libnuma does not depend on the kernel interface as much as libc6 does,
but libc6-dev does provide libc.a.

If we send a patch, would you apply it?

Brice

Bug#423784: Missing dependency problem: libkrb53, libkrb5-dev

Package: libkrb53

libkrb53 and libkrb5-dev packages have missing dependency problem to
libkeyutils and libkeyutils-dev respectively. This leads to FTBFS bugs
on unstable branch for packages like balsa and libgnome-vfs2.

Please fix the problem.

Bug#423014: console's last three lines become inaccessible once xdm start up

2007-05-14 Thread Edward Welbourne
Interestingly, when aptitude fires up the console-graphical package
configuration tool, during installation of new packages, it manages to
put the OK selector where I *can* see it, even though aptitude itself
fails to show me its last three lines. (For example, when asking me
to hit return to continue, it does so where I can't see it; I have no
way to know whether it's showing that prompt or just taking a long
time to install some package that it's mentioned on a line I can't
see.)

Check your device.map. If it's broken, check if your newly modified

I tried to kill suspects (firefox-bin, nautilus, ...), but nothing

Those are typical symptoms of a GPU lockup.

Does the X server come up again after killing it though? If so, it's
unlikely a lockup but could be related to #179647.

If not, it's probably a video driver bug and disabling the DRI should
work around it. Other than that, you could try if disabling Option
UseFBDev makes a difference.

Bug#423789: mpt-status: FTBFS: linux/compiler.h (and wrong architecture list?)

2007-05-14 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: mpt-status
Version: 1.2.0-3
Severity: serious
Tags: patch

Hi Steffen,

Is there a reason that mpt-status is marked as being specific to i386/amd64?
As near as I can tell, at least some of the relevant LSI devices are
available as PCI cards which should work on any architecture, and driver
support for MPT is built on most archs in the Debian kernels.

A small patch is needed to make the package build in unstable though,
because linux/compiler.h is no longer provided with the switch from
linux-kernel-headers to linux-libc-dev. Please find this patch attached
(including the suggested change to the arch list).

Bug#417333: Too bad it happened again

2007-05-14 Thread Olivier Berger
FYI, the machine reports recoverable ECC memory errors... so I'm
suspecting problems with the memory...

But I'm not completely sure the mem is faulty though.

There were no reports of ECC problems with the Dell diagnostic tools
when that happened.

We're trying to solve the memory problems with the Dell support, and
hopefully this will go away ?

Best regards,

Bug#423487: export requires build dependencies

It seems that using svn-buildpackage --svn-export requires the build
dependencies to be satisfied. I don't think that makes sense.

I agree.

Actually, this dependency issue is not singular to export. It is (was?) needed
for tag operations.

I think the whole check for features/needs could be redesigned so that a check
can be done at the begining, but is taken
into account only when needed.

The way I think it could be done is to not fail on the initial checks, but to
cache the results for the different checks
that are done and only when a requirement needs to be fulfilled do a check on
the cached result and fail then.

Since code sometimes speaks better, here is some pseudocode:

svnbpinit:

svnbptag:

checktagsurldefined or die tags url not defined

Bug#423796: ddccontrol_0.4.2-2 (alpha/unstable): FTBFS: wrong architecture list

2007-05-14 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: ddccontrol
Version: 0.4.2-2
Severity: serious
Justification: packages must be supported on all architectures where it is
reasonable

Hi Roberto,

According to the changelog for ddccontrol, the package's architecture list
is currently restricted to i386 and amd64 in response to bug #385812. But
this is not a proper fix for that bug, because the package previously built
successfully on ia64, alpha, and arm, and only now fails to build there
because of your change.

In the log of #385812, upstream claims:

ddcpci (the part that causes some problems to build on some archs) use at
least one x86-specific function (ioperm), so I don't think this part of
the code will work on alpha and ia64.

This is false, ioperm is *not* x86-specific. If it were x86-specific, the
package would not have built on these other architectures in the first
place!

I can't check that ddcpci works on my alpha, because it only works on cards
from a limited number of vendors (my alpha's card is a Matrox Millennium II,
which is not supported), but I don't see any code in here that's
x86-specific. Please re-enable building ddccontrol on ia64, alpha, and arm,
or at least check with the porter lists for confirmation that the package
doesn't work there.

Hi,

I continue bet that it still doesn't compile in a OOo2 environment (as
it didn't in at the time you filed the bug, and as the author
appaarently doesn't care about getting it to build in something
non-ancient).

Hmm, OK, I am sorry, I oversaw the following part on
http://dba.openoffice.org/drivers/postgresql/index.html:

[...]
# Version 0.7.3

* The driver now builds also in OOo 2.x build environment.

And it indeed does. (with some patches for using Debians libpq and some
stl/gcc4 buildfixes)

I might add it in one of the next packages (not decided yet whether in -base
or in an extra package.

Severity: serious
Justification: packages must be supported on all architectures where it is

Hi Sune,

Why is mga-vid only being built for amd64, hppa, i386, ia64, powerpc, and
sparc? The package is a driver for a class of PCI cards, and all
architectures except for s390 (and m68k?) have PCI support. The driver
builds fine for me on alpha after changing the architecture line. Unless
you know of a reason not to do so, please enable building this package for
alpha, arm, mips, and mipsel in addition to the architectures it's currently
being built for.

There was a missing Build-Depends on the xnest server, leaving the

Hello,

Indeed, I was totally wrong in my previous mail, ``wget_wch()'' returns
ERR in no-delay mode when no input is waiting, but the uptsream author
doesn't check for timeout in this case.

I have attached a patch which fixes this problem and seems to work fine
(with netenv or by using ``dialog --timeout 5 --menu Title 20 68 12
foo bar''). Thanks to Manuel Menal for his review ;).

maybe, in the mean time, you could change the scripts that generate the
webpages to just not display any bugs that Will be archived today? I'm
willing to help if you're short on time or need testers.

Those are not yet the bugs that are going to be archived. I will make
an announcement to -d-a when those bugs are listed correctly, and will
  begin archiving them shortly thereafter.

Yes, you said that almost a month ago as well. So, when will this be?
Tomorrow? Next week? Next year? And if it will take some time, what is
 the reason for that?

I have to write code so that it is possible to know at what time a bug
has been closed in specific architectures. I have not yet had time to
complete it; you will know when I have because there will be an
announcement made about it, and this bug will be marked pending.

Haranguing me about isn't helpfull.

 Hi Sune,

Dear user,

I have now changed the control file to reflect a bit more architectures along
with some other minor fixes.

I have placed my current packages on alioth on
http://alioth.debian.org/~pusling-guest/mga-vid_2.6.20-2/mga-vid_2.6.20-2.dsc

or if you have ssh access to alioth and prefer it that way, it is in
~pusling-guest/public_html/mga-vid_2.6.20~2/mga-vid_2.6.20-2.dsc

Now I start looking for someone to sponsor my upload.

Bug#423812: pdns: Slave nameserver doesn't accept NXDOMAIN from supermaster

2007-05-14 Thread Bas van Schaik
Package: pdns
Version: 2.9.20-8
Severity: normal

When a zone gets deleted from a (MySQL backended) supermaster
nameserver, the accompanying slave nameservers (also configured with a
MySQL backend) get confused when doing a periodic retrieve/refresh of
the zone:
 May 14 06:37:25 callisto pdns[17268]: Error trying to retrieve/refresh
'mydomain.nl': Remote nameserver reported error: RCODE=2

The supermaster reports that it's not authoritative, which is correct:
 May 14 06:37:25 helios pdns[31590]: Not authoritative for 'mydomain.nl',
 sending servfail to 123.123.123.123

This bug causes the slave nameserver to continue serving this zone,
which is absolutely not desirable and in fact renders the
slave/supermaster infrastructure unusable. The slave nameserver will
probably stop serving the domain after the configured expire-period
(SOA, usually 2-4 weeks).

Note that in in some countries you are obligated to remove a zone from
your nameservers within a few days, otherwise the domain won't be
released by the domain registration authority (for example, the .nl
cctld). This bug forces you to manually update the slave nameserver
configuration, which is obviously not the idea behind the
slave/supermaster setup! I think the slave nameservers should remove a
zone from their databases when a supermaster starts throwing
NXDOMAIN-errors on retrieve/refresh.

Bug#422933: Icon 'drawer' not found

2007-05-14 Thread strazer
If I add a new drawer, the warning message immediately appears and the
drawer gets a yellow, diamond-shaped icon with a black border and a
question mark in the middle.

If I manually assign another icon to the drawer, the warning message
disappears. It seems that just the default icon for the drawer is
somehow missing.

There is no gnome-panel-drawer.png on my system and I can find no
package in the database that contains this file so no, assigning that
path results in the same warning sign icon.

I'm using Testing, by the way.

gnome-panel upstream developers said that the name of the icon is not

customized drawers (for example where you set the icon manually) are
affected; I don't think we will fix these, and hence I'm closing this

But there is one thing to fix: add a conflict against older gnome-panel
versions, which won't work with the new gnome-icon-theme.

This is an internal sanity check in the BIND 9 memory manager, and the

I don't know how to reproduce it. It's quite likely that it happened in

doesnt work, ferm doesnt like the array of saddr/daddr. Why?

Only keyword parameters can be put in an array; this is a design
decision which will not be changed soon, however it might change once
we overhaul ferm's internal data structures.

To emulate the rule you might want to create, you could use custom
functions:

 def addr($a) = { saddr $a; daddr $a; }
 chain INPUT ACCEPT addr($SOMETHING);

Note that the function call to ADDR() must be the last specification
in this line, since it contains curly braces.
