Bug#417396: quotatool: sometimes fail to read correct block device
just to folow up on this. I did some tests with real filesystems on block devices, instead of loopback devices, on an etch system that previously exhibited the bug. (nis 3.17-6, libc6 2.3.6.ds1-13) While the system still showed the bug with ext3 filesystem images mounted via /dev/loopN, it did not occur with ext3 filesystems on real block devices like /dev/hda8. It appears this issue is confined only to loopback devices and in some circumstances. I could not see any obvious errors in the C code that handles such devices but I only made a brief inspection. It happens when I first physically touch the screen; it does not seem to happen on move. It is otherwise unpredictable -- i've had it not crash for as few as ~30ish as well more than several thousand before breaking. by the way, as the evtouch driver is the same as etch/lenny/sid, did you eventually notice the problem also with earlier versions of X.org? I've been using the driver for a long time without much problem, I just started having those random freezes one month ago (but I can't really tell if they are due to an xserver-xorg upgrade...) This definitely didn't happen with Xorg 7.0, and I'm moderately confident the upgrade to 7.2 is to blame -- but calibration drift issues made me not stop using the touchscreen regularly so I can't be confident 7.1 was crash-free. My aptitude log implies that most of 7.2 was rolled out on 30 Apr, with some libraries leaking in starting on 9 Apr. I'm confident it's not kernel related. Before 7.0 I was using the (unpackaged) usbtouch driver instead, but I can't compare it any more because of a dramatic ABI change. - robert jacobs P.S. Bug#423709: Chokes on .css/.js with Content-Encoding: gzip
On Mon, 2007 May 14 08:40:22 +0200, Mike Hommey wrote: Could you install mozilla-livehttpheaders, open tools-live http headers, and check out the headers the server sends and post them here ? Oh, f***... the server is sending Content-Encoding: gzip, gzip, which apparently means that mod_gzip is compressing the already-gzipped CSS and Javascript content. (These live as static .css.gz/.js.gz files on the server, and are served using a non-mod_gzip content-negotiation mechanism.) So that's it, then. My server provider has a misconfigured mod_gzip. The whole problem goes away when I explicitly disable mod_gzip with mod_gzip_on No. Sorry for not catching this sooner---this behavior did not show up with text/html (see below), nor with lynx -head, which was what I was using to test the server response. (FWIW, Opera and Safari did load the page correctly, which leaves open the question of whether gzip, gzip should be handled in a more graceful way.) http://example.com/ GET / HTTP/1.1 Host: example.com User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070310 Iceweasel/2.0.0.3 (Debian-2.0.0.3-1) Accept: text/xml,application/xml,application/xhtml+xml,text/html;q=0.9,text/plain;q=0.8,image/png,*/*;q=0.5 Accept-Language: en-us,en;q=0.5 Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate Accept-Charset: ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7 Keep-Alive: 300 Connection: keep-alive HTTP/1.x 200 OK Date: Mon, 14 May 2007 06:59:07 GMT Server: Apache/1.3.37 (Unix) mod_throttle/3.1.2 DAV/1.0.3 mod_fastcgi/2.4.2 mod_gzip/1.3.26.1a PHP/4.4.7 mod_ssl/2.8.22 OpenSSL/0.9.7e Vary: Accept-Encoding Cache-Control: max-age=60 Expires: Mon, 14 May 2007 07:00:07 GMT Last-Modified: Sun, 13 May 2007 23:50:43 GMT Etag: 472034f-a67-4647a453 Accept-Ranges: bytes Content-Length: 2663 Keep-Alive: timeout=5, max=100 Connection: Keep-Alive Content-Type: text/html; charset=UTF-8 Content-Encoding: gzip Content-Language: en-US -- http://example.com/common/foo-icon.png GET /common/foo-icon.png HTTP/1.1 Host: example.com User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070310 Iceweasel/2.0.0.3 (Debian-2.0.0.3-1) Accept: image/png,*/*;q=0.5 Accept-Language: en-us,en;q=0.5 Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate Accept-Charset: ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7 Keep-Alive: 300 Connection: keep-alive HTTP/1.x 200 OK Date: Mon, 14 May 2007 06:59:07 GMT Server: Apache/1.3.37 (Unix) mod_throttle/3.1.2 DAV/1.0.3 mod_fastcgi/2.4.2 mod_gzip/1.3.26.1a PHP/4.4.7 mod_ssl/2.8.22 OpenSSL/0.9.7e Cache-Control: max-age=14400 Expires: Mon, 14 May 2007 10:59:07 GMT Last-Modified: Tue, 30 Jan 2007 01:42:58 GMT Etag: 329cf73-eb-45bea2a2 Accept-Ranges: bytes Content-Length: 235 Keep-Alive: timeout=5, max=100 Connection: Keep-Alive Content-Type: image/png Content-Language: en-US -- http://example.com/common/foo.css GET /common/foo.css HTTP/1.1 Host: example.com User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070310 Iceweasel/2.0.0.3 (Debian-2.0.0.3-1) Accept: text/css,*/*;q=0.1 Accept-Language: en-us,en;q=0.5 Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate Accept-Charset: ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7 Keep-Alive: 300 Connection: keep-alive Referer: http://example.com/ HTTP/1.x 200 OK Date: Mon, 14 May 2007 06:59:07 GMT Server: Apache/1.3.37 (Unix) mod_throttle/3.1.2 DAV/1.0.3 mod_fastcgi/2.4.2 mod_gzip/1.3.26.1a PHP/4.4.7 mod_ssl/2.8.22 OpenSSL/0.9.7e Vary: Accept-Encoding Cache-Control: max-age=3600 Expires: Mon, 14 May 2007 07:59:07 GMT Last-Modified: Mon, 14 May 2007 06:58:40 GMT Etag: 329cf7d-c42-464808a0 Accept-Ranges: bytes Content-Length: 3138 Keep-Alive: timeout=5, max=99 Connection: Keep-Alive Content-Type: text/css Content-Encoding: gzip, gzip Content-Language: en-US -- http://example.com/common/foo.js GET /common/foo.js HTTP/1.1 Host: example.com User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070310 Iceweasel/2.0.0.3 (Debian-2.0.0.3-1) Accept: */* Accept-Language: en-us,en;q=0.5 Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate Accept-Charset: ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7 Keep-Alive: 300 Connection: keep-alive Referer: http://example.com/ HTTP/1.x 200 OK Date: Mon, 14 May 2007 06:59:07 GMT Server: Apache/1.3.37 (Unix) mod_throttle/3.1.2 DAV/1.0.3 mod_fastcgi/2.4.2 mod_gzip/1.3.26.1a PHP/4.4.7 mod_ssl/2.8.22 OpenSSL/0.9.7e Vary: Accept-Encoding Cache-Control: max-age=3600 Expires: Mon, 14 May 2007 07:59:07 GMT Last-Modified: Mon, 14 May 2007 06:58:46 GMT Etag: 4c0b2a0-22d-464808a6 Accept-Ranges: bytes Content-Length: 557 Keep-Alive: timeout=5, max=99 Connection: Keep-Alive Content-Type: application/x-javascript Content-Encoding: gzip, gzip Content-Language: en-US -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#396993: xserver-xorg-video-nv: Xserver crashes machine completely
Hi, sorry, I am currently on vacation in Australia. I'll deal with the problem when I'm back in Germany, because the computer with that particular problem is there. regards Hadmut Hi, Several months ago, you reported a bug to the Debian BTS regarding a crash of the X server with the nv driver. Did you reproduce this problem recently? With the latest xserver-xorg-core 1.3 and xserver-xorg-video-nv 2.0.2 from unstable? I don't see any backtrace in your logs, there should be one in the server is crashing. Thanks, Brice
Bug#423774: aptitude: Asssertion failed and /var/cache/apt/pkgcache.bin trashed
Package: aptitude Version: 0.4.4-4 Severity: important Now it happend a second time within a week, so time to file it as a bug. I invoked aptitude update; aptitude -i and after the update, the following assertion failed: Nicht gefangene Ausnahme: ../../../src/generic/problemresolver/problemresolver.h:2216: generic_problem_resolverPackageUniverse::generic_problem_resolver(int, int, int, int, unsigned int, int, const PackageUniverse) [with PackageUniverse = aptitude_universe]: Assertion bd.broken_under(solution::root_node(initial_broken, universe, weights)) failed. After this, the pkgcache.bin seems to be in a very bad shape. Aptitude refuses to start, and apt-get is panicing too, saying that about every package installed has dependecny problems. Bug#423771: numactl: built on hppa, s390, but no support in kernel?
Package: numactl Version: 0.9.11-3 Severity: important Hi Ian, I see in the numactl changelog that as of 0.9.10-1, the package is only being built on those architectures that support the numa syscalls. But is that really the right set of architectures to build on? From what I can see, neither s390 nor hppa has support for CONFIG_NUMA in the kernel, so perhaps numactl shouldn't be built for these archs either? Also, it looks to me that mipsel is missing from the arch list, since mips in the kernel includes both mips and mipsel. Bug#423775: xserver-xorg-core: Xorg freezes on a powermac7,3
Package: xserver-xorg-core Version: 2:1.1.1-21 Severity: normal Dear X11 task force, I am afraid that I can not provide much more information to this bug. Can you give me instructions about what to do before or after the next freezing? When Xorg freezes, the machine is still accessible by ssh, the mouse pointer still moves, but the keyboard is ignored: not only crtl-alt-F1 do not swich to the console, but the caps lock led is not swiched on when pressing the caps lock key. Nothing except the mouse pointer moves on the screen. I tried to kill suspects (firefox-bin, nautilus, ...), but nothing happened until I killed Xorg, which was eating 99% of the CPU. The freezes happen unexpectedly. In the past I suspected network access to samba shares to be the cause, but this time, they were not mounted. .xsession-errors was unchanged for 40 minutes before the crash. Bug#423182: numactl: should compile libnuma.a
Hi, I agree with Samuel's request. A good reason to go against upstream wishes is that upstream is wrong :) Static libs are definitely very useful, and even sometimes required (when you want to link against a program that for some reason cannot be dynamically linked). And there is nothing specific in libnuma that could justify that almost all other lib packages provide static libs while libnuma does not. For instance, libnuma does not depend on the kernel interface as much as libc6 does, but libc6-dev does provide libc.a. If we send a patch, would you apply it? A small patch is needed to make the package build in unstable though, because linux/compiler.h is no longer provided with the switch from linux-kernel-headers to linux-libc-dev. Please find this patch attached (including the suggested change to the arch list). Bug#423487: export requires build dependencies
Peter Eisentraut wrote: Package: svn-buildpackage Version: 0.6.18 Severity: normal It seems that using svn-buildpackage --svn-export requires the build dependencies to be satisfied. I don't think that makes sense. I agree. Actually, this dependency issue is not singular to export. It is (was?) needed for tag operations. I think the whole check for features/needs could be redesigned so that a check can be done at the begining, but is taken into account only when needed. The way I think it could be done is to not fail on the initial checks, but to cache the results for the different checks that are done and only when a requirement needs to be fulfilled do a check on the cached result and fail then. Since code sometimes speaks better, here is some pseudocode: svnbpinit: cachedepssatisfied cachetrunkurldefined cachetagsurldefined cacheorigdirexists svnbptag: checknopending or die pending modifications checktagsurldefined or die tags url not defined dotagstuff svnbpexport: if checkusesmerge checkorigdirdefined or die merge is used, but no orig dir Comments are welcome -- Regards, EddyP = Imagination is more important than knowledge A.Einstein signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature
Bug#423796: ddccontrol_0.4.2-2 (alpha/unstable): FTBFS: wrong architecture list
Package: ddccontrol Version: 0.4.2-2 Severity: serious Justification: packages must be supported on all architectures where it is reasonable Hi Roberto, According to the changelog for ddccontrol, the package's architecture list is currently restricted to i386 and amd64 in response to bug #385812. But this is not a proper fix for that bug, because the package previously built successfully on ia64, alpha, and arm, and only now fails to build there because of your change. In the log of #385812, upstream claims: ddcpci (the part that causes some problems to build on some archs) use at least one x86-specific function (ioperm), so I don't think this part of the code will work on alpha and ia64. This is false, ioperm is *not* x86-specific. If it were x86-specific, the package would not have built on these other architectures in the first place! I can't check that ddcpci works on my alpha, because it only works on cards from a limited number of vendors (my alpha's card is a Matrox Millennium II, which is not supported), but I don't see any code in here that's x86-specific. Please re-enable building ddccontrol on ia64, alpha, and arm, or at least check with the porter lists for confirmation that the package doesn't work there. -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. Bug#423812: pdns: Slave nameserver doesn't accept NXDOMAIN from supermaster
Package: pdns Version: 2.9.20-8 Severity: normal When a zone gets deleted from a (MySQL backended) supermaster nameserver, the accompanying slave nameservers (also configured with a MySQL backend) get confused when doing a periodic retrieve/refresh of the zone: May 14 06:37:25 callisto pdns[17268]: Error trying to retrieve/refresh 'mydomain.nl': Remote nameserver reported error: RCODE=2 The supermaster reports that it's not authoritative, which is correct: May 14 06:37:25 helios pdns[31590]: Not authoritative for 'mydomain.nl', sending servfail to 123.123.123.123 This bug causes the slave nameserver to continue serving this zone, which is absolutely not desirable and in fact renders the slave/supermaster infrastructure unusable. The slave nameserver will probably stop serving the domain after the configured expire-period (SOA, usually 2-4 weeks). Note that in in some countries you are obligated to remove a zone from your nameservers within a few days, otherwise the domain won't be released by the domain registration authority (for example, the .nl cctld). This bug forces you to manually update the slave nameserver configuration, which is obviously not the idea behind the slave/supermaster setup! I think the slave nameservers should remove a zone from their databases when a supermaster starts throwing NXDOMAIN-errors on retrieve/refresh. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-3-xen-686 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages pdns depends on: ii pdns-recursor 3.1.4-1PowerDNS recursor ii pdns-server 2.9.20-8 extremely powerful and versatile n pdns recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. If I add a new drawer, the warning message immediately appears and the drawer gets a yellow, diamond-shaped icon with a black border and a question mark in the middle. If I manually assign another icon to the drawer, the warning message disappears. It seems that just the default icon for the drawer is somehow missing. There is no gnome-panel-drawer.png on my system and I can find no package in the database that contains this file so no, assigning that path results in the same warning sign icon.
