Bug#426488: evolution-data-server: package description is misleading
Package: evolution-data-server Version: 1.6.3-5 Severity: minor The Debian package description says that the data server manages address books and calendars. There are parts of this package (e.g., camel) that manage the main email functionality of evolution. I'm not sure exactly what the scope of the package is, but it seems to be greater than implied by the description. This caused me some confusion when trying to track down the sources for evolution's mail handling. Part of the package may be a data server component that acts as advertised; the statement in the package description may be true, but incomplete. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (50, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-4-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages evolution-data-server depends on: ii evolutio 1.6.3-5 architecture independent files for ii libavahi 0.6.16-5Avahi client library ii libavahi 0.6.16-5Avahi common library ii libavahi 0.6.16-5Avahi glib integration library ii libbonob 2.14.0-4Bonobo CORBA interfaces library ii libc62.3.6.ds1-13GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcamel 1.6.3-5 The Evolution MIME message handlin ii libcomer 1.39+1.40-WIP-2006.11.14+dfsg-2 common error description library ii libdb4.4 4.4.20-8Berkeley v4.4 Database Libraries [ ii libebook 1.6.3-5 Client library for evolution addre ii libecal1 1.6.3-5 Client library for evolution calen ii libedata 1.6.3-5 Backend library for evolution addr ii libedata 1.6.3-5 Backend library for evolution cale ii libedata 1.6.3-5 Utility library for evolution data ii libegrou 1.6.3-5 Client library for accessing group ii libgconf 2.16.1-1GNOME configuration database syste ii libgcryp 1.2.4-2 LGPL Crypto library - runtime libr ii libglib2 2.12.4-2The GLib library of C routines ii libgnome 2.16.0-2The GNOME 2 library - runtime file ii libgnome 1:2.14.2-7 GNOME virtual file-system (runtime ii libgnutl 1.4.4-3 the GNU TLS library - runtime libr ii libgpg-e 1.4-2 library for common error values an ii libkrb53 1.4.4-8 MIT Kerberos runtime libraries ii libldap2 2.1.30-13.4 OpenLDAP libraries ii libnspr4 1.8.0.11-2 NetScape Portable Runtime Library ii libnss3- 1.8.0.11-2 Network Security Service libraries ii liborbit 1:2.14.7-0.1libraries for ORBit2 - a CORBA ORB ii libpopt0 1.10-3 lib for parsing cmdline parameters ii libsoup2 2.2.100-1 an HTTP library implementation in ii libtasn1 0.3.9-1 Manage ASN.1 structures (runtime) ii libxml2 2.6.27.dfsg-1 GNOME XML library ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3-13 compression library - runtime evolution-data-server recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#426452: user-setup: Should allow preseeding to avoid adding initial user into local device groups
Quoting Petter Reinholdtsen ([EMAIL PROTECTED]): Package: user-setup Version: 1.11 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch In a large installation, it does not scale to add all users to the groups granting access to local devices on each machine. In such configurations it is better to assign that access dynamically at login, using the pam_group and pam_foreground pam modules. This is a longstanding discussion and, up to now, no perfect answer to this has been found. We particularly had to fight with this while maintaining shadow. However, the mention you make about pam_foreground is new to me. Where does this module come from? It seems that it could be the one module that is OK to give access to local devices to the person who's sitting in front of the machine. Which package does it belong to? After all, we could more generally have an option in D-I to install the system with that module activated unless disabled. Our current hardcoded list of useful groups sucks anyway. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#425083: Password expire bug not fixed in samba 3.0.25a-1
I might be able to provide a tcpdump, but I don't understand why a tcpdump is really needed, because the reason why samba denys the login is quite obvious. Well, I may have overread Jeremy's request in the bug report but this is what he felt was needed. However, as you point later, this may have been another issue, indeed. So, the tcpdump is probably no longer needed. But after reading the man page a bit, I found this: First with version 3.0.24: # pdbedit -P maximum password age account policy maximum password age description: Maximum password age, in seconds (default: -1 = never expire passwords) account policy maximum password age value is: 356 The password expire time is 356 seconds? But on 3.0.24 and before my user has a expire time of 30 years and I never had any problems with this. So upstream seems to have a none working password expire validation check for e very long time. My debian sid box with samba is running for at least 4 years! Weird. PhyloGrapher is a drawing tool that generates custom graphs for a given set of elements. In general, it is possible to use PhyloGrapher to visualize any type of relations between elements. Used in conjunction with tcl_blast_parser, PhyloGrapher can represent the results of a BLAST search as a graph. . Homepage: http://www.atgc.org/PhyloGrapher/PhyloGrapher_Welcome.html I just started to use tcl_blast_parser and PhyloGrapher today, and they are useful tools to analyse BLAST biological sequence alignment reports (BLAST is provided by Debian's blast2 package). I think that phylographer would be an easy package to prepare. Maybe the longest part of the work would be manpage writing. This is the reason why I did not file an ITP: I already have a long queue of manpages to write... I would recommend to add the standalone script tcl_blast_parser to the source package, and to distribute it as a separate binary pacakge (it does not require a window manager, in contrary to PhyloGrapher). I am enquiring about the license of tcl_blast_parser parser to its author. http://www.atgc.org/BlastParser/Blast_Parser.html I am quite confident that this pacakge would easily find a sponsor if needed. The other packages had to be downgraded due to dependencies. Will report if any new errors occur, otherwise all is fine with me regrading this bug report. After this I successfullly reinstalled jadetex (3.13-8) and docbook-utils (0.6.14-1), but removing them in the first place does not seem necessary, since version 3.13-8 is dated May 2. Bug#419091: More information on RelaxNG validation bug
I have compiled libxml2 with RelaxNG debugging (change the #if 0 to #if 1 in relaxng.c) and produced a debugging log[0] with DocBook 5.0CR4 on the test document. The interesting part (for this bug) comes around line 11832, where it claims that Validating element imagedata failed. The group db.imageobject.content can contain three types of imagedata: db.imagedata, db.imagedata.mathml, and db.imagedata.svg. libxml2 proceeds to try validating against the last of these, fails because it does not contain an svg:svg, and promptly gives up. Unfortunately, there are two other alternatives that it neglected to consider in totality, the first of which is the valid one. HTH. Bug#426491: ucf: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates review
Package: ucf Version: N/A Severity: normal Tags: patch Dear Debian maintainer, On Friday, May 11, 2007, I notified you of the beginning of a review process concerning debconf templates for ucf. The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates, and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report. Please review the suggested changes are suggested, and if you have any objections, let me know in the next 3 days. Please try to avoid uploading ucf with these changes right now. The second phase of this process will begin on Friday, June 01, 2007, when I will coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates. The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will receive an updated PO file for their language. Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to the debian-i18n mailing list. Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with. The call for translation updates and new translations will run until Wednesday, June 13, 2007. After this I successfullly reinstalled jadetex (3.13-8) and docbook-utils (0.6.14-1), but removing them in the first place does not seem necessary, since version 3.13-8 is dated May 2. What do you infer from the date of jadetex? Nothing, I saw that -8 is the new version even since it is dated May 2. Maybe you also saw the -7.1 works, at least with base-bin-7 and base-6. Ah, well. jadetex seems to have a couple of bugs, I'm not sure whether they're related. Thanks for the pointer; I've removed the configure flag from the vino package in SVN following upstream's default and recommendation. Yes, thanks for the pointer, and thanks for removing it. It's also worth noting that if you do have a password set in gconf (base64 encoded) it will use this before checking gnome-keyring. This is probably why there haven't been more complaints about it - if you are upgrading and already had this setup then you'll still be using the gconf password, so not have seen the problem. I deleted pretty much ~/.g* as I'd been through many versions of gnome on my system and thought it was worth resetting at this new release, hence I hit the problem. But lockPref() options in/etc/iceweasel/pref/iceweasel.js will be ignored, only pref() settings will be processed. I tested it with various lockPref settings.. /etc/iceweasel/pref is the only location I found where I can set iceweasel prefs for all users, that would'nt be overwritten due an update. Due to the fact that there isn't another file to set securely lockPref settings, I assume that this is a bug. What you can do is add a .js file in /etc/iceweasel/pref to set the general.config.filename preference to another file name than iceweasel.cfg and create this file in /usr/lib/iceweasel, containing whatever lockPrefs you want. Thank you, this works :) But it should be also possible to set lockPref settings in /etc/iceweasel/pref. Bug#415239: 2.6.21-1-amd64 untainted report
Here is vanilla 2.6.21-1-amd64 with no out-of-tree modules crashing. I also had it lockup with no messages logged at all previously. In this case I set the governor to userspace and set the frequency to 1GHz manually, rather than using 'ondemand'. The crashes seem to be essentially random so perhaps I should be looking for a hardware fault. However it's totally stable (for months now) at 2.2GHz. Bug#412289: linuxlogo: does not create /var/run/linuxlogo at installation
When freshly installing linuxlogo on a system, I have to manually crate the /var/run/linuxlogo directory. This should be done in the postinst script, I suppose. Probably I misunderstod the problem at the time. Anyway, what I observe now is that on systems (like Ubuntu) which mount /var/run at boot time on tmpfs, the /var/run/linuxlogo directory does not exist at boot, and consequently /etc/issue.linuxlogo is a dangling symlink and the linux logo is not shown on the console login screen. This patch partially solves the problem: *** /etc/init.d/linuxlogo~ 2006-11-24 12:04:50.0 +0100 --- /etc/init.d/linuxlogo 2007-05-29 11:35:46.0 +0200 *** *** 24,29 --- 24,30 case $1 in start|restart|force-reload) log_action_begin_msg Updating the ${DESC} + mkdir --parents /var/run/linuxlogo $DAEMON -f /etc/issue.linuxlogo $DAEMON -a -f /etc/issue.linuxlogo.ascii for F in /etc/issue.linuxlogo /etc/issue.linuxlogo.ascii however, it does so only after one has logged in and out, because the first getty for each terminal is called when the /etc/issue.linuxlogo file is still a dangling symlink. I think the easiest way out is to get rid of symlinks and just create the files under /etc. This would only require a change in the install/remove scripts. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. I think two bug-reports got mixed up... I never had the 64-bit time_t on 32-bit system problem. But trying to lookup the policy for the password expiration time helped a lot. Agreed, these are not the same bug. Dropping the 'forwarded' tag. Knowing that 3.0.24 and before seems to ignore the max password age and simply using 30 years for all users, and 3.0.25 for the first time really uses this value I changed that with pdbedit: Yes, I don't understand why this wasn't used previously; but: I am not sure where (my) default of 356 seconds came from, but when it's the default on every debian machine with samba, then you probably should change that to never / -1 for samba = 3.0.25. It's not the default on every Debian machine with samba. I have Debian systems with samba installed where the pdb was first created with samba 3.0, and systems where it was created with samba 3.0.24; and none of my systems show this issue. So I would say that, given that the current behavior appears to be correct, this is not a bug and the report can remain closed. Bug#426138: Good idea!
Hi, I think this is a good idea. CPU frequency scaling should be enabled by default, it seems like the Right Thing to do. I believe Ubuntu has had it enabled by default for a long time now, so it should work. -- Pelle -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble?
