(for the bug report) As Moray expected, a GPE release has been made (during DebConf), which is good news. No need for the SVN stuff outlined at the start of this bug report. Bug#428785: [pkg-wpa-devel] Bug#428785: wpasupplicant: losing WiFi connectivity Connection to wpa_supplicant lost - trying to reconnect
Reinhard Tartler [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Sebastian Niehaus [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: For some reason, wpa_supplicant sometimes loses the connection to wpa_cli and wpa_supplicant seems to crash. It's rather the other way round: wpa_supplicant seems to crash for you, and wpa_cli looses therefore the connection. Please try to find out why it crashes for you. Please try to retrieve a coredump and backtrace. Tried to get e backtrace after recompile but I did not succeed, whatever I tried. Then I hypothesized wpa_supplicant could be stopped by some different process. I started fiddeling with whereami and ifplugd. Deinstalling whereami did not solve my problem so I modified the configuration of ifplugd which was ,[ /etc/default/ifplugd ]-- | INTERFACES=all | HOTPLUG_INTERFACES=all | | ARGS=-q -f -u0 -d10 -w -I | SUSPEND_ACTION=stop ` Now it is ,[ /etc/default/ifplugd ]-- | INTERFACES=eth0 eth1 | HOTPLUG_INTERFACES=eth0 | | ARGS=-q -f -u0 -d10 -w -I | SUSPEND_ACTION=stop ` where eth0 is my (wired) ethernet and eth1 the Intel Wireless LAN Adapter. I did not test the ethernet but WLAN runs fine for nearly 24 hours without wpa_supplicant disappearing somehow. I will test this setting longer ... Actually, I believe, the problem I reported is not a bug of wpa_supplicant, but a bad interaction of wpa_supplicant and ifplugd causing wpa_supplicant to be killed during bad WLAN connecticity. If others can reproduce this behaviour it may be useful to add this to the package's documentation. Mainly because there has not been any discussion by Robert about adding them with the rest of the D-I team and the D-I release managers in particular. As we do always try to limit the size of the installer, having udebs for which we do not have an actual use-case is not very desirable. Hi Frans, I'm sorry. I didn't know adding new udebs without getting them installed in D-I required approval of the D-I team (or the release team!). My purpose was only to be able to manually apt-install them (they do have a use-case when user wants to edit GPT partitions like I had to in a recent install). It's up to you if you'd prefer to remove the udebs again for now, but my suggestion would be to wait for the result of the discussion on the debian-boot list. Bug#273269: sysklogd: Resolving may lock the system
Package: sysklogd Version: 1.4.1-20 Followup-For: Bug #273269 Please consider changing the severity of this bugreport. There is a remote bug that can freeze the system when using -r: To reproduce it: * Set as nameserver 127.0.0.1 * Start syslogd with -r * Have a remote system log messages (1 per 2-3 seconds is enough) * Start a local named (this will freeze) * Try to login This will freeze the system because syslogd uses gethostbyname() to do the lookups which blocks it. Bind has already binded at port 53 but is not able to perform lookups yet since it waits for some messages to be logged to the syslog. syslog keeps trying to resolve the remote hostname and still gets messages from it. Sending spoofed syslog packets amy keep the system from actually booting. There is no need to use a local named for it. When using a remote nameserver that is not responding, syslog will be blocked. A blocked syslogd results in blocking all processes that try to log something. su, login, etc, all try to log something and thus you're not able to login to the system until about 30 seconds have passed. At least add a note to the /etc/default/sysklogd script to warn users that when using -r they should have the appropriate entries in /etc/hosts. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (150, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.22-v2-v (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages sysklogd depends on: ii klogd [linux-kernel-log-daemo 1.4.1-20 Kernel Logging Daemon ii libc6 2.5-9+b1 GNU C Library: Shared libraries sysklogd recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#432953: kid3 not allowing creation of new export/import formats
Package: kid3 Version: 0.9-1 Severity: normal I'm in the middle of ripping a 1000+ CD collection and kid3 is being invaluable to organize the tags of the massive number of MP3 files. I tried all ID3-taggers available in my distribution (Debian Lenny) and settled down finally to easytag and kid3. kid3's import/export features are unmatched. However, I'm not being able to create new import/export formats. I tried: 1) Adding them through the import/export dialogs, by editing the custom format and saving the settings. When I start kid3 next, the formats I created are gone. 2) Adding them directly to kid3c: ExportFormatHeaders ExportFormatNames ExportFormatTracks ExportFormatTrailers ImportFormatHeaders ImportFormatIdx ImportFormatNames ImportFormatTracks but the same thing happens: when I start kid3 next, the formats are gone. I tried to add them to the beginning, middle of end of each list, but the result is the same. I took the care of updating Headers/Names/Tracks/Trailers in sync. I thought that the *Idx section would control the number of formats, so I increased them, but no joy: the new format would be discarded. It seems like kid3 is always resetting export/import formats to their original values. Am I doing something wrong or perhaps missing something, or is this really a bug in kid3 ? Bug#432932: metasend: Slightly exploitable MIME type setting
The mime type setting isn't the only one. -A 'xxx; foo=xxx echo headshot' headshot also works nicely. It is several lines of eval ctype${multipart}=\$ctype\ and similar that shows these. Just search for eval in the code and almost all of them does this. But unless mime types is added by untrusted people, it isn't a real problem. /Sune -- Do you know how may I doubleclick on the gadget? Bug#432961: Remove the /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/default link from the package
Package: nginx Version: 0.5.26-1 Severity: normal The /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/default link is reinstalled on each upgrade of the nginx package, making all the upgrades fail on installations that have other program listening on the port 80 or starting a server on this port when I don't want to. Could you please remove the link from the debian/links file and decide what to do on the package postinstall script? IMHO the only sane default is to create the link on new installs, if the link is missing on an upgrade it is something that the local admin has decided to do, usually because he does not want to use it. Another option is to comment out the /etc/nginx/sites-available/default file, but it is marked as a conffile, and then the user is asked about the file on upgrades. Bug#431191: cyrus-sasl2: don't allow trailing CR/LF/CRLF in base64 data
Going forward with this. Only packages depending on libsasl2-2 can call sasl_decode64. So we run apt-cache rdepends libsasl2-2 on a sid system to get all those packages. (79 binary packages) Then, we download the source for each of those. (38 source packages) Now we have a set of candidates. To qualify, a package's source code has to call sasl_decode64, so we look for files with that string in them. (64 files in 12 source packages -- and one of them is cyrus-sasl2 itself) So here are the packages that have code calling sasl_decode64: beepcore-c-0.2+cvs20030603 cyrus-imapd-2.2-2.2.13 cyrus-sasl2-2.1.22.dfsg1 cyrus21-imapd-2.1.18 hotway-0.8.4 kolab-cyrus-imapd-2.2.13 libetpan-0.49 mail-notification-4.1.dfsg.1 mutt-1.5.16 nmh-1.2 nufw-2.2.2 postfix-2.4.3 I'm going to contact each maintainer separately, explain the situation and ask for their input. -- Fabian Fagerholm [EMAIL PROTECTED] signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part
Bug#378243: grub-reboot even with `default saved' has problems, bad update of default
Package: grub Version: 0.97-27 Followup-For: Bug #378243 Hi, I experiment with grub-reboot and found thing, that is already reported here. Configuration of default entry in menu.lst must be set do `saved'. I found another problem with the saving of defult entry, probably in grub loader itself (no grub-reboot). The whole log follows, but a shortened chart this: To short typing I wrote the value from /boot/grub/default as /boot/grub/default=value. 1. /boot/grub/default=0 grub-reboot 1 (no real reboot) /boot/grub/default=0:1 reboot 2. grub loaded entry 1 /boot/grub/default=0:1 reboot 3. grub loaded entry 0 /boot/grub/default=0:1 reboot 4. grub loaded entry 0 /boot/grub/default=0:1 grub-reboot 1 (no real reboot) /boot/grub/default=1:1 reboot 5. grub loaded entry 1 /boot/grub/default=1:1 reboot 6. grub loaded entry 1 /boot/grub/default=1# followed by '\0' and several '\n' There must be some other place, where grub saves, that next reboot is `once only'. In round 2 and 3 grub loaded correctly entries 1 and 0 afterwards. Entry in /boot/grub/default was not updated back to 0 anymore. This is a problem on next usage of grub-reboot! Bug#410190: ipp error message
Package: cupsys Version: 1.2.11-3 Same problem here. I have several printers, the effect only shows with the HP 4050, so it seems to matter. When I submit print jobs faster than the printer prints them, i.e. more than one job in the queue, it stops printing with printer in error state. The printer has to be manually enabled, then it prints one job and stops at the next. I suspect a misunderstanding in the ipp communication between cups and the printer. In order to debug that further, I'd like to get a more verbose feedback from the ipp backend than just a return code of 1. Bye, Joerg signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#423899: util-linux: please use libvolume-id instead of libblkid
in Ubuntu we have used libvolume-id instead of libblkid for util-linux since release 6.06 (dapper). This makes mount, umount, and swapon work with labels and UUIDs, the library is better maintained, and as a bonus this gets rid of the libdevmapper dependency. This patch was stolen from the SuSE package. I second this request. If I'm not mistaken though, using libvolume-id in util-linux requires a more recent version than the one, currently in unstable. docs/v2.13-ReleaseNotes (of util-linux in exp) says it requires libvolume_id (udev = v110). I CCed Marco, maybe he can comment on if he intends to upload a newer udev version in the foreseeable future. Bug#432977: ipconfig fails to get ip configuration from dhcp-server
Package: klibc-utils Version: 1.4.34-1 As we are using FAI to install our computers, the ipconfig binary in the klibc-utils package is used to obtain the IP configuration from a DHCP server at boot time, when installing a computer. A normal DHCP process looks like this: DHCPDISCOVER (client-server) DHCPOFFER (server-client) DHCPREQUEST (client-server) DHCPACK (server-client) Using the ipconfig tool in the klibc-utils, the procedure looks like this: DHCPDISCOVER (client-server) DHCPOFFER (server-client) DHCPREQUEST (client-server) The DHCPACK is missing, an there is never an IP configuration obtained. Bug#429351: Patch for Newt
Hi, Thanks for the patch; I will test it out, and possibly include it in newt. I'm wary about changing the API for newt, even for additions: I'd prefer to get it adopted upstream first. However upstream has not included the Bidi patches so far, I'd like to see why. Do you have some good testcases for Hebrew (and screenshots for the non-Hebrew speaking) so that I can test Bidi changes? I'm rewriting the Bidi patches for new upstream newt version. Bug#432980: evolution: sends each message in a separate SMTP session
Package: evolution Version: 2.6.3-6etch1 Severity: minor When offline, I sometimes accumulate messages in the outbox which are waiting to be sent when I go online. However, Evolution sends each message in a separate SMTP session, which is quite slow when using SMTP AUTH and SSL/TLS. It would be better to have an SMTP batch sender that would check if there are further messages to be sent in the outbox when a message has been successfully sent, and sends the next message in the already open SMTP session. Of course, things like several accounts with separate outgoing servers etc. need to be considered. Bug#432986: lvm utilities complain about fds 2
Package: lvm2 Version: 2.02.06-4 The lvm utilities apparently whinge if they inherit any fds other than 0,1,2. This is quite unreasonable. There is nothing wrong with executing a program with some inherited fd 2 and there are many reasons why one might want to do so. If lvm needs to fork off a daemon or some such then fine, it ought to close them, but it should do so silently. Ian. Bug#432984: ickle: not binNMU safe
Package: ickle Version: 0.3.2-6 Severity: important Tags: patch Please apply the attached patch to make your package binNMU safe. More details at http://wiki.debian.org/binNMU. Bug#432782: electricsheep: Problems with Gnome Integration
Sean wrote: electricsheep.desktop file for gnome-screensaver in the /usr/share/gnome-screensaver/themes directory. However, electricsheep did not appear in the gnome-screensaver preferences as an option. I ran pkg-config --variable themesdir gnome-screensaver and found that my theme directory was /usr/share/applications/screensavers. Upon copying the electricsheep.desktop file to /usr/share/applications/screensavers, and rebooting the system, electricsheep appeared as an option in gnome-screensaver. Thanks for the report. I've just uploaded a new package that fixes those issues. Regars, -- Alexis Sukrieh -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
