Bug#440004: security team not informed by dak about manual uploads to security-master anymore

2007-08-29 Thread Luk Claes

Package: ftp.debian.org

Quoting from an eMail of a security team member:
When packages are uploaded manually, the security team is not informed,
due to a bug or change in dak (we were sent 'foo accepted' mails in the
past). Thus, the security team cannot react as expected from the
  uploader.

can that be fixed on security-master.debian.org please?

Cheers

Luk

I am having the same problem with apt-get install xfonts-100dpi in a

I inserted the set -x command into the xfonts-100dpi.postinst script
and found the culprit to be laptop-detect.

I also searched for this problem associated with laptop-detect and found
 this bug report http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=417802.

The original report looks old compared to the first report date of this
problem, but it sure looks like the same problem.

Thanks a lot for the explanation. I am reassigning/merging those bugs then.

We should really stop calling laptop-detect in all our maintainer
scripts since it's actually only used in one of them (see #438098).

Bug#440006: CVE-2007-4565: Denial of Service attack in Fetchmail

2007-08-29 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
Package: fetchmail
Severity: important
Tags: security

Hi!

A DoS attack in fetchmail has been publicised:

fetchmail before 6.3.9 allows context-dependent attackers to cause a denial
of service (NULL dereference and application crash) by refusing certain
warning messages that are sent over SMTP.

This upstream URL has details and references which commit fixes it:
http://mknod.org/svn/fetchmail/branches/BRANCH_6-3/fetchmail-SA-2007-02.txt

Please update your package, and mention CVE-2007-4565 in your changelog. It
would be good if you could assess the severity of this attack in the light of
updating stable/oldstable.

rejected, the source of doc/*.html is missing. If you look into the

 to wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GuideML) thats a
meta-language used to generate files out of it.

I've asked in an old mail the author about the HTML and the patches,
he told to me that he wrote all the html with vi... I've learned
another issue, to check html fles for generator metatags... :)

I didn't expect the presence of tags to override a statement in the
packaging that the HTML files had since been edited and had become the
source. Maybe that needs to be clarified rather than phrasing it as
can accept patches as HTML.

Now I write a mail to the author asking for the sources...

or to use perl or sed to remove all the generator tags.

So we need to wait for another release? the 3.6... :|

Please explain why you think this is not a release critical bug.

You seem to have gone and changed, mostly lowered, the severity of
various bugs on packages. As far as I can see, you're not the
maintainer of those packages. So I'm just going to set the severity of

Bug#378227: xine-ui: Can't skip in flacs

2007-08-29 Thread Reinhard Tartler
Matthias Heinz [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

 Package: xine-ui
 Version: 0.99.4-2
 Severity: normal

 Hi,

first i thought it could be a bug in amarok, but since it uses the
xine engine to playback i tried playing flacs with xine directly and
it's the same behaviour, so i guess it's a xine problem.

Long story, short conclusion: I'm unable to skip parts in flac audio files.
(and i can't tell you more about it, maybe it's a xine bug and not
debian related and should be forwareded to the xine devs)

I've forwarded your bug report to sourceforge [1], where a xine developer
has written this:

Date: 2007-06-21 07:27
Sender: dgp85
Logged In: YES
user_id=60011
Originator: NO

FLAC files needs seekpoints in the metadata to be seekable. The metaflac
command can be used both to inquiry and to create the seek table.

and

Date: 2007-06-04 16:10
Sender: dgp85
Logged In: YES
user_id=60011
Originator: NO

That particular sample seems to be truncated, please try with some other
FLAC file, and make sure it has valid seekpoints.

Can you confirm this analysis? Can this bug be closed, or can you
provide another, non-broken flac file where you are unable to seek?

Bug#430079: closed by Krzysztof Burghardt [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Re: 'scantv -h': Segmentation fault)

Krzysztof Burghardt [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Its somehow strange, because quicktime support was disabled in the
past. I have reenabled it in 3.95.dfsg.1-5, so 3.95.dfsg.1-4 should
 not even be using quicktime.

Odd -- did I give the wrong version? lets double check which version I was
running up to the time of my last post. According to the BTS my last
post was dated 'Mon, 27 Aug 2007 01:28:05 -0400', which means local
time 1:28AM. My system's 'dpkg' log says:

% grep 'status installed scantv' /var/log/dpkg.log.1 /var/log/dpkg.log
/var/log/dpkg.log.1:2007-07-31 01:22:04 status installed scantv
3.95.dfsg.1-4
/var/log/dpkg.log:2007-08-27 02:34:24 status installed scantv
3.95.dfsg.1-5

Apparently I'd upgraded just an hour after writing the message. Maybe
I can downgrade and test it again. Did it, and v3.95.dfsg.1-4 calls
libquicktime:

% dlocate -s scantv | grep Vers
Version: 3.95.dfsg.1-4

# more detailed 'strace'
% strace -s 256 -fFv -o /tmp/scantv_1-4.log scantv -h

24446 close(3) = 0
24446 --- SIGSEGV (Segmentation fault) @ 0 (0) ---
24446 +++ killed by SIGSEGV +++

Could you try 3.95.dfsg.1-5 (there was a patch for quicktime applied)?

# after upgrading again.
% dlocate -s scantv | grep Vers
Version: 3.95.dfsg.1-5

% scantv -h ; echo $?
Segmentation fault
139

Attached is a more detailed 'strace -s 256 -fFv -o /tmp/scantv.log
scantv -h', as well as the 'strace' for v3.95.dfsg.1-4.

Which version of libquicktime you have?

% dlocate -s libquicktime0 | grep Vers
Version: 2:0.9.10+debian-0.3

Are you familiar with gdb? Can you debug this?

Not unless it's easy, where easy means having small source code
requirements. A dialup ISP connection's low bandwidth sometimes
makes compiling a small C code package difficult; at least in cases
where the code needs large libraries, header files, etc. (Running
'strace' with options to increase the level of detail is easy.)

You seem to have gone and changed, mostly lowered, the severity of
various bugs on packages. As far as I can see, you're not the

 this one back.

Ok. /etc/environment is not a shell script, it's a list of variable

symbols later on, as can be seen on the build logs at
http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=openh323ver=1.18.0.dfsg-4arch=mipsstamp=1187867576file=log
http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=openh323ver=1.18.0.dfsg-4arch=mipselstamp=1187890191file=log

The buildds were running binutils 2.17cvs20070804-1, and I can reproduce the
problem with the current binutils from sid (2.18~cvs20070812-1).

openh323 1.18.0.dfsg-1+b1 is the last version that build properly on mipsen,
and that was with binutils binutils 2.17-3.

Thanks,

JB.

Bug#440017: ITP: irssi-plugin-xmpp -- XMPP plugin for irssi

2007-08-29 Thread David Ammouial
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
X-Debbugs-CC: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

   Package name: irssi-plugin-xmpp
Version: 0.13
Upstream Author: Colin Didier [EMAIL PROTECTED]
URL: http://cybione.org/src/irssi-xmpp/
License: GPL
Description: XMPP plugin for irssi
An irssi plugin to connect to the Jabber network, using the XMPP protocol.
 .
Its aim is to provide a good integration in this text-based irc client and a
 good support of XMPP.
 .
 Current main features are:
  - Sending and receiving messages in irssi's query windows
  - A roster with contact's ressources tracking (contact list)
  - Contact management (add, remove, manage subscriptions...)
  - Contact's JIDs, ressources and commands completion (TAB key)
  - Multiple accounts support (in different connection)
  - Unicode support (UTF-8)
  - SSL support

Given that the program is still quite young, I'm not sure whether there should
be a Debian package for it yet. The developer is very active though.

I'm hosting an experimental version of the package here:
http://da.weeno.net/code/debian/pool/main/i/irssi-plugin-xmpp/

I would like some advice about whether irssi-xmpp should make it into unstable
yet, as well as some feedback about the package itself.

Thanks.

The fix is in the upstream released 1.3.13p1 package.

I'm currently Debian computer less after my move to Ireland (I should
have updated my VAC on -private sorry).

I have a new computer ordered and should be able to provide a new
package within 2 weeks, however please feel free to NMU before then.

2007-08-29 Thread Guus Sliepen
Package: libpam-modules

When trying to use rlogin to log in to a server running in.rlogind from
either the rsh-server or the rsh-redone-server package, the login
process seems to hang and in.rlogind is using 100% CPU time. Strace
reveals that $HOME/.rhosts is opened and read, but it seems not to
notice the end of the file, and continously tries to read in more. I
have attached the .rhosts file and the relevant output of strace.

Bug#440020: daemon=no should be the default

2007-08-29 Thread martin f krafft
Package: pdns-recursor
Version: 3.1.4-4

pdns_recursor has daemon=yes as default configuration, it seems.
This means that it's not possible to debug it from the command line
without changing the configuration:

seamus# /usr/sbin/pdns_recursor --trace

The behaviour is the same whether daemon=yes is set, or daemon= is
commented out in /etc/powerdns/recursor.conf. Since it makes little
sense to say daemon=no in the configuration file, I suggest that
pdns_recursor should, by default, *not* daemonise.

plugins, like bug no #439475. Please handle that by just removing the
comma, since it compiles with the pedantic flag that way.

the xserver-xorg-video-i810 *source* package in experimental (version
2:1.7.4-1) doesn't build any debs; the xserver-xorg-video-i810 binary
package is now built from xserver-xorg-video-intel.
Please remove that source package.

Thanks,
Julien

Yes, the package should build-depend on netbase for /etc/protocols.
Frank, could you please try a rebuild with netbase included? If it
works, I'll upload this single change as a new version.
I don't think there's any need for checking this on the buildds: I can
reproduce the test failure on amd64 without netbase installed, and
including netbase indeed fixes it for me.

Sounds like this could be fixed in svn and uploaded?!

Yes, doing it. Didn't do it before as I'm still on my Vienna
VAC. (Expect a report from YAPC soon-ish)

Thanks!

Bug#439730: [Pkg-openmpi-maintainers] Bug#439730: Bug#439730: Bug#439730: Please shut up libibverbs

I'd vote for actually 'Debian patching' the config file to set ^openib, and
adding a line there comment out if you have infinit band and want to use it.

I checked in a patch that modifies the config and documents the issue in
README.Debian. I wasn't able to test it yet, so I'm not tagging this bug
as pending.

Nevertheless, while patching I started not feeling very comfortable with
this, for the following reason: If one has InfiniBand, it will not be
working anymore, maybe without warning. To enable it again, one has to
do so on all nodes. If one doesn't have InfiniBand, all one gets is a
quite annoying warning but that doesn't influence the behavior at all.

So the question I asked myself is: Isn't it more reasonable to comment
out the configuration setting and add a line uncomment if you want to
shut up libibverbs. This would not influence the runtime behavior at
all. Opinions?

Best regards

Hi !

Contrary to the work done by Roland in bug #426429, I have made a
new package for SimpleParse 2.1.0a1 based on the actual
package. Therefore, it still uses CDBS. The result is lintian
clean and works fine for me. I have changed debian/control to put
Debian Python Modules team as maintainer, just in case you don't
have time to maintain this package any more (in this case, I can
seek sponsorship for this package in the team).

Feel free to use this diff.gz.

Bug#439392: [backup-manager] Fix proposed upstream

2007-08-29 Thread Alexis Sukrieh

Hello,

A fix has been proposed and is waiting for approval by the development
team upstream. We welcome very much the Debian's point of view of the
solution submited here.

patch:
  http://bugzilla.backup-manager.org/cgi-bin/attachment.cgi?id=64

use private temp file for passing the password to b-m-u

This way we hide the password in a file which is readable only by the
user who launched backup-manager, and saved in his home directory.
backup-manager-upload is passed the path to that file instead of the
  password itself.

Feel free to comment on.

When python2.4 and python2.5 is installed python2.4-pysqlite2 does not

2.5). So Gajim uses python2.4,which has no pysqlite available and

 Hi,

Thanks thomas for the analysis of the problem.

this causes gajim to fail to start in the common case where both
python2.4 and python2.5 are installed when gajim is installed. Also, if
the user does some housecleaning with deborphan, aptitude or debfoster,
it will cause python2.4-pysqlite2 to be removed.

I think this warrants severity: serious.

the only solution I see is to forbid people to use python2.5 and
strictly depend on python2.4 and python2.4-sqlite ...

Bug#440028: python-kde3: new upstream version fixes at least one crash

2007-08-29 Thread Adeodato Simó
Package: python-kde3
Version: 3.15.2+20060422-3
Severity: important

Hello.

Please package PyKDE 3.16, which has been out for many months. It fixes
at least one crash related to session management. See [1] for details.

  [1] http://www.riverbankcomputing.com/pipermail/pyqt/2007-August/017052.html

Ubuntu has already packaged 3.16, so you may want to check their package
to see the needed changes. I also built it locally myself, and the main
issues I found were:

  * configure.py does not like being run from a build-2.X subdirectory

  * make install wants to run ldconfig, can be easily commented out

  * make install wants konsole to be present in order to link against
libkonsolepart.so, can be easily added to build-depends, but:

  * it wants to link against /usr/lib/libkonsolepart.so, whereas the
file lives in /usr/lib/kde3/libkonsolepart.so; make install tries to
create a symlink, I guess it can be fixed by adding a -L/usr/lib/kde3
argument to the link call instead

I would muchly appreciate if this could be uploaded soonish, let me know
if you'd like some help.

Cheers,

Bug#439790: Assumes MSF offset is always 150

2007-08-29 Thread Martin Michlmayr
* Eric Gillespie [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2007-08-27 14:31]:
I suppose this patch should fix it? Not tested, but I think it
matches your original patch. I'm not sure why you removed the
first TRACK 01 AUDIO line, but neither am I sure why it's there.

I removed it but at the same time I decreased the counter, so the for
loop would start with track 01 rather than 02. i.e. I simply removed
the hard coded TRACK 01 AUDIO line in favour of printing it in the
for loop. I did this because the hardcoded line always print 00:00
whereas my new code would take the offset into account (and in my case
print TRACK 01... INDEX 00:00:32.

Anyway, since the cue sheet specification wasn't clear how to handle
this situation, I tried Exact Audio Copy, which is apparantly taken as
a standard for cue sheet by many. It generates the following cue
sheet:

REM DISCID E5108212
REM COMMENT ExactAudioCopy v0.95b4
PERFORMER Unknown Artist
TITLE Unknown Title
FILE Range.wav WAVE
  TRACK 01 AUDIO
TITLE Track01
PERFORMER Unknown Artist
INDEX 00 00:00:00
INDEX 01 00:00:32

Hmm. This is because mailx(1) is merely a symlink to mail(1), while
mailx(1posix) is a real page; man prefers the real page. I'll think
about this and see whether the logic ought to be adjusted to prefer the
one without the sectional extension.

Thanks,

Bug#439984: Acknowledgement (libpam0g: Bad item passed to pam_*_item())

2007-08-29 Thread Vladimir Stavrinov
Hi!

I didn't receive Your replies to my report for unknown reason,
but I read it on the site. So, here is my summary comments for
your and numerous related messages about last upgrade of pam
system

I am serve a lot of debian servers, but only one machine (which is
my home computer) has the problem I am reported. But at this
moment it is not accessible for me, and thus I can't give You
more info right now, but some time later. The reason caused
problem and pointed out by Soeren look like fantastic, but it
rather likely it is my case too, because I am never touch pam
configuration anywhere, but as usual edit environment.

There is some number of reports about many services needed to
restart after upgrading pam. I should add one more to this list:
it is samba too, that should be restarted. And reasonable question
is: is this list closed, or there are other daemons to restart?

And finally, rhetorical question: is it possible to catch bugs,
like this, that cause the earthquake, before upload?

I am running fluxbox, not KDE.

In the recent past, I was able to start konsole, hit Ctrl-Space, then
type Chinese directly into konsole. Now when I hit Ctrl-Space nothing
happens, ie. the SCIM window does not pop up.
Would you mind tell me more details:
1. How did you configure your SCIM?
2. Which version qt are you using now?
3. Have you installed scim-qtimm?

Bug#440032: postinst (almost) overwrites existing ssl cert/key

2007-08-29 Thread martin f krafft
Package: dovecot-common
Version: 1.0.rc15-2etch1
Severity: minor

I thought at first this would be grave, but it fortunately isn't.

I have two separate cert files both based off the same key for
dovecot imap and pop:

  protocol imap {
ssl_listen = *

ssl_cert_file = /etc/ssl/certs/imap.madduck.net.pem
ssl_key_file = /etc/ssl/private/seamus.madduck.net.key
  }

  protocol pop3 {
ssl_listen = *·

ssl_cert_file = /etc/ssl/certs/pop.madduck.net.pem
ssl_key_file = /etc/ssl/private/seamus.madduck.net.key
  }

The postinst can't deal with that:

  ++ egrep -s '^[^#]*ssl_cert_file' /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf
  ++ cut -d= -f2
  + SSL_CERT=' /etc/ssl/certs/imap.madduck.net.pem
  /etc/ssl/certs/pop.madduck.net.pem'
  ...
  + '[' -f /etc/ssl/certs/imap.madduck.net.pem
/etc/ssl/certs/pop.madduck.net.pem ']'
  /var/lib/dpkg/info/dovecot-common.postinst: line 28: [:
/etc/ssl/certs/imap.madduck.net.pem: binary operator expected
+ echo 'Creating generic self-signed certificate:
/etc/ssl/certs/imap.madduck.net.pem
  /etc/ssl/certs/pop.madduck.net.pem'

So this would overwrite the existing certs. Fortunately, I was saved
by openssl:

+ openssl req -new -x509 -days 365 -nodes -out
/etc/ssl/certs/imap.madduck.net.pem /etc/ssl/certs/pop.madduck.net.pem -keyout
/etc/ssl/private/seamus.madduck.net.key /etc/ssl/private/seamus.madduck.net.key
+ echo 'Warning : Bad SSL config, can'\''t generate certificate'

So, nothing happened.

If you can't figure out how to handle multiple certs, be safe and
simply do nothing if more than one cert is present, as then it's
moderately safe to assume that the admin knows what s/he's doing.

Also, I'd really change the if statement. Now it creates self-signed
certs if the if is false, which may be the case if there's an error
(-f should actually not be true on symlinks). I suggest to revert it
such that certs are only created if

  [ ! -e cert ] [ ! -e key ]

else nothing happens.

Cheers,

Bug#438335: [Fwd: Bug#438335: dtach -n error - tcgetattr: Inappropriate ioctl for device]

2007-08-29 Thread debian-bugs-2007
I edited my crontab to explicitly define the path to the special file,
however it still fails to create a dtach instance:

~$ crontab -l | grep irssi
@reboot /home/bb/bin/dtach -n /home/bb/.dtach/irssi irssi 21
~/.dtach/irssi.cron
~$ ls -l ~/.dtach/
total 0
-rw-r--r-- 1 bb bb 0 2007-08-29 11:15 irssi.cron
~$ cat ~/.dtach/irssi.cron
~$

The fact that ~/.dtach/irssi.cron is created, but is empty, suggests
that the crontab entry was executed but without any error message
generated.

Fwiw, I would expect dtach to issue an error if the ~ was not
expanded, and indeed it does:

~$ /home/bb/bin/dtach -n '~/.dtach/irssi' irssi /dev/null

Bug#412922: [PATCH] win32-loader integration

2007-08-29 Thread Robert Millan
retitle 412922 win32-loader integration
thanks

The attached patch integrates win32-loader in the build system, to include
it with cdrom and hd-media builds (and netboot, when it comes to mini.iso)

Acknowledging the concerns Frans stated before about making it too easy for
unaware win32 users to run D-I and wipe their system, my patch doesn't generate
any autorun.inf file.

I do think it might be a good idea to explore that possibility later, but
having the feature at all is more important IMHO. So let's postpone that and
please let me know what you think about the current patch.

Thanks!

I'm not that creative with names, but if you are going to fork it, you

Bug#440031: apache2: fails to start with SSL enabled (ports.conf)

2007-08-29 Thread Pascal A. Dupuis
Package: apache2.2-common
Severity: normal

Hello,

here's a snippet of ports.conf shipped with the package:
---
Listen 80

IfModule mod_ssl.c
## Listen 443
/IfModule
--

if the second 'Listen' directive is uncommented, starting apache2
(/etc/init.d/apache2 [start|reload]) fails with:
(98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:443
no listening sockets available, shutting down
Unable to open logs

otherwise, everything run fine. A 'netstat -apn' doesn't show any
process bind to port 443.

A strace of 'apache2ctl start' reveals, for one of the child process,
the following problem:

open(/var/run/apache2.pid, O_RDONLY|O_LARGEFILE) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or
directory)
setsockopt(4, SOL_SOCKET, SO_REUSEADDR, [1], 4) = 0
setsockopt(4, SOL_SOCKET, SO_KEEPALIVE, [1], 4) = 0
setsockopt(4, SOL_TCP, TCP_NODELAY, [1], 4) = 0
bind(4, {sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(80), sin_addr=inet_addr(0.0.0.0)},
16) = 0
listen(4, 511) = 0
setsockopt(6, SOL_SOCKET, SO_REUSEADDR, [1], 4) = 0
setsockopt(6, SOL_SOCKET, SO_KEEPALIVE, [1], 4) = 0
setsockopt(6, SOL_TCP, TCP_NODELAY, [1], 4) = 0
bind(6, {sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(443), sin_addr=inet_addr(0.0.0.0)},
 16) = 0
listen(6, 511) = 0
setsockopt(9, SOL_SOCKET, SO_REUSEADDR, [1], 4) = 0
setsockopt(9, SOL_SOCKET, SO_KEEPALIVE, [1], 4) = 0
setsockopt(9, SOL_TCP, TCP_NODELAY, [1], 4) = 0
bind(9, {sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(443), sin_addr=inet_addr(0.0.0.0)},
 16) = -1 EADDRINUSE (Address already in use)
write(2, (98)Address already in use: make..., 77) = 77
close(9)= 0
write(2, no listening sockets available, ..., 46) = 46
write(2, Unable to open logs\n, 20) = 20

Now, the funny part:
1) remove 'Listen 443'
2) restart apache2
3) netstat -ap | grep apache
tcp0 0 *:www *:* LISTEN
22079/apache2
tcp0 0 *:https *:* LISTEN
22079/apache2

So ... it seems the 'Listen 443' is automatic with a2enmod ssl ? I
guess the problem is a bad interaction between the
/etc/apache2/ports.conf and some of the installation scripts.

Best regards

Pascal Dupuis

Bug#440035: awstats: nested includes always fail with Perl versions before 5.6 cannot handle nested includes

2007-08-29 Thread Nick Leverton
Package: awstats
Version: 6.5+dfsg-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

I attempted to create a multi-site config which makes use of two levels
of Include config files:

Site config awstats.mysite.conf
which first Includes awstats.default.conf (a copy of awstats.conf as issued)
which itself Includes awstats.conf.local

Awstats rejects this with the message Perl versions before 5.6 cannot
handle nested includes even though I am running on Perl 5.8. I don't
see any test for the Perl version in the section of code that produces
this message (line 1203 in my awstats.pl).

The code appears to be trying to handle nested includes OK but bails
out in the middle due to this test, which I therefore think is erroneous.

I could move the Includes around but it would suit me better to use multi
level Includes as it avoids editing the standard awstats.conf on updates.
I can simply copy it (after review of course) to awstats.default.conf.

I've attached a patch for your review. This allows nested includes
(up to awstats' predefined limit of 10 levels) and on my 2-level testing
they appear to work fine under Apache 2.2, mod_perl and Perl 5.8.

Nick

Bug#440036: CC to different bug will fail

2007-08-29 Thread jidanni
Package: bugs.debian.org
Severity: minor

How could this be?
$ w3m -dump http://bugs.debian.org/439960|grep 438980
Report forwarded to ... [EMAIL PROTECTED],
$ w3m -dump http://bugs.debian.org/438980|grep 439960
$

That's because any CC, X-Debbugs-CC, To, will get hijacked
by a Subject: with a bug number in it. Which is indeed
documented I recall, but at least don't say Report
forwarded to above, when it is not true.

Solution perhaps: simple: just don't let Subject override
To, etc., just like mail acts in the first place.

OK, I cloned the above bug instead now.

$ reportbug ...
Enter any additional addresses,
but not ones with bugs.debian.org!:-)

Bug#440037: fail2ban: Does not match on 'last message repeated n times' entries

2007-08-29 Thread Stephen Gran
Package: fail2ban
Version: 0.7.5-2
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

I think the subject is fairly clear. The problem is that syslog will
omit logging a repeated line if it repeates too quickly, so you can end
up missing a real attack if it happens quickly enough.

Very rough patch attached. It seems to do what it should, but my
python is fairly awful, so I would give it a careful review before
considering merging it.

Thanks,

Bug#259340: man-db: 'apropos' lacks a logical 'AND' for strings

A prefix '-a' would be okay, I was thinking an infix notation would allow

Perhaps the long spelling should be '--and'? 'all' wouldn't distinguish
 whether we're looking for:

 1) all strings with 'cd' OR 'dvd', or
 2) all strings with 'cd' AND 'dvd'.

Fair point. I've implemented this now, so it will be in man-db 2.5.0:

Bug#440010: emacs22: please enable cut-and-paste between Emacs and X clipboard by default

2007-08-29 Thread Marcus Better
We provide stuff in /etc/emacs that does a lot of things, and that's not
considered deviating from documented behaviour. This is more about providing
a sensible default configuration that does what I'm sure any user would
expect in a windowing system. If I can cut and paste between, say, oowriter
and KWrite, why should Emacs be different?

Upstream may well have good reasons for keeping the current behaviour. For
example they may not want to introduce behaviour that is dependent on a
specific platform or windowing system. Debian has different goals, that
include making the desktop a better integrated total experience.

Perhaps this customization would fit better in some X11 package that could
drop a config file in /etc/emacs?

Regards,

Marcus

Bug#440038: Autoconf of snooper

Package: snooper
Version: 19991202-4
Severity: minor

I have tested the source including latest patch, on a non debian system
(SuSE-10.0). Everything worked as expected but
i noticed that autoconf does not check for liblockdev properly. I did not have
lib lockdev but i was included. The same goes for
libcurses (what is called ncurses with suse). it was used without proper
checking.

removing the HAVE_LIBLOCKDEV and the lib shows that liblockdev is not a
requirment (in contrast to libcurses).

btw: while checking the log i noticed 2 indirect checks for libcurses (what is
not found) but obviously no conclusions are drawn.

Bug#438335: [Fwd: Bug#438335: dtach -n error - tcgetattr: Inappropriate ioctl for device]

2007-08-29 Thread debian-bugs-2007
I have repeated the crontab entry using bash instead of irssi. It is
clear there is some difference in the behaviour of irssi:

~$ crontab -l | grep dtach
@reboot /home/bb/bin/dtach -n /home/bb/.dtach/irssi /usr/bin/irssi 21
~/.dtach/irssi.cron /dev/null
@reboot /home/bb/bin/dtach -n /home/bb/.dtach/bash /bin/bash 21
~/.dtach/bash.cron /dev/null
~$ ls -l ~/.dtach/

-rw-r--r-- 1 bb bb 0 2007-08-29 11:41 bash.cron
-rw-r--r-- 1 bb bb 0 2007-08-29 11:41 irssi.cron
~$

This suggests irssi quits without an error message when executed in
this way. It requires some further investigation as to the behaviour
of irssi and whether or not this is induced by dtach.

Cheers,

This means you have another Listen 443 somewhere. Use

So ... it seems the 'Listen 443' is automatic with a2enmod ssl ? I
guess the problem is a bad interaction between the

Yes, I'm quite confident that your bug is the same as the problem on
Soeren's system. I have a fix now in svn that should be uploaded with -4 in
the next couple of days.

When you get access to your system, you can fix it by removing any lines
from /etc/environment that are not of the form VARIABLE=VALUE or
export VARIABLE=VALUE. Any other lines in /etc/environment are still
errors, my fix will just make it so that these errors are not fatal.

There is some number of reports about many services needed to
restart after upgrading pam. I should add one more to this list:
it is samba too, that should be restarted. And reasonable question
is: is this list closed, or there are other daemons to restart?

The -3 upload already includes code to restart services on upgrade, and
samba is included in the list. It's possible that there are some services
still missing from the list, and I'm happy to receive bug reports if you
find such a service.

And finally, rhetorical question: is it possible to catch bugs,
like this, that cause the earthquake, before upload?

No, it's impossible to prove that there are no bugs in a given upload of
such a piece of software. I certainly did as much QA before uploading as I
could, but the bug you found has only been reported by two people, out of
hundreds or thousands that track unstable.

That's why we have separate unstable, testing, and stable suites -- to catch
the bugs that one person alone isn't going to be able to find.

2007-08-29 Thread Lars Luthman
Package: linux-image-2.6-amd64

Justification: renders package unusable

I recently installed Debian Lenny AMD64 from the first installer DVD.
The installation went fine, and the system started OK. But when I
tried to use the CD/DVD writer, I discovered that the kernel didn't
detect it - it was as if there was nothing there. The only SATA or IDE
devices reported are /dev/sda and its partitions (which is the
harddisk). Loading ide-cd didn't help, loading ide-generic printed the
output

Probing IDE interface ide0...
Probing IDE interface ide1...

but still nothing happens, no device files, no output in dmesg.

When I boot from the installer and start the shell, I see a /dev/hdb
device file and /proc/ide/ide0/hdb/model says TSSTCorp CDDVDW
SN-S082H (this file does not exist when I run the installed kernel).

I have tried upgrading to the newest 2.6-amd64 kernel and also tried
building my own 2.6.22.5 kernel, it's the same no matter what.

Bug#440041: request-tracker3.6: sub Redirect() in ./lib/RT/Interface/Web.pm assumes wrong port when used via proxy

2007-08-29 Thread Robert Sander
Package: request-tracker3.6
Version: 3.6.1-4
Severity: minor

Hi!

We have been using RT with apache behind an apache-ssl proxy.
The proxy was doing SSL on port 443, and RT was running on port 80.

The sub Redirect() in ./lib/RT/Interface/Web.pm now always returned a
wrong URL because it got the port number from the apache environment.
The environment contained 80 as port number as this was the port the
proxy spoke to, but the user's web browser was talking to the proxy on
port 443.

The browser now got an URL redirect to https://rt.company.com:80/ and
failed as it was not able to speak SSL on port 80.

We have solved that issue by moving the RT installation to the
apache-ssl server running on port 443, removing the proxy situation.

I am creating this bug report because I think the logic in this function
has to be reviewed for situations like we encountered.

Bug#372769: patch aborts with pch.c:622: intuit_diff_type: Assertion `i0 != NONE' failed. (fwd)

2007-08-29 Thread Eddy Pronk

The assert looks like a you should never get here condition.
It tries to figure out which filename should be used for the output.
At the point of the assert (or assume) it assumes at this point it
should be clear which filename to use.
This fails because we try to revert the patch but the file to apply it
to is not found. So there is nothing to revert to. In this case it is
fine to ignore the hunk.

My patch look very similar. I removed the assert because if it is part
of the if condition the assert condition can never be false.

I used a smaller file to reproduce it:

$ cat test.patch | patch -d . -R -E --dry-run -p2
missing header for unified diff at line 4 of patch
patch_: pch.c:622: intuit_diff_type: Assertion `i0 != NONE' failed.
Aborted (core dumped)

with the patch (see attachment reverse_bug.patch) it says:

missing header for unified diff at line 4 of patch
can't find file to patch at input line 4
Perhaps you used the wrong -p or --strip option?
The text leading up to this was:

Bug#437754: Info received (Have similar problem)

2007-08-29 Thread Ola Lundqvist
Hi

This is indeed strange, especially because they all share the same codebase...

I solved my problem by simply removing the acroread plugin. What I realized
then was that there are some other pdf handler already available in galeon.
Maybe the problem is a conflict between two different handlers?

Best regards,
