Hi there, After applying the fix described in: http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg16015.html FVWM 2.5.21 that comes with Debian Lenny doesn't crash anymore. This fix is already in upstream (2.5.23 I think), but isn't it possible to backport? Thanks in advance? Bug#442028: freeguide: Displayed time offset
Hi Pascal, We've seen problems with times being offset in the past, and it has sometimes turned out to be some kind of strange behaviour with the way Sun Java handles time zones. There is some debate about the best way to fix it. I believe the fix you found (opening the date/time dialog in GNOME and setting the time zone) probably touched a file that Sun Java looks at to determine what time zone you are in. This thread is a good place to start investigating further: http://www.nabble.com/Problem-with-time-in-FreeGuide-TV-tf1732683.html#a4784596 and the Ubuntu bug which is linked from there might also be helpful. Please do keep us informed if you make any progress. Thanks very much, Andy Pascal Giard wrote: Package: freeguide Version: 0.10.5-1 Severity: normal Starting with 0.10.5 I've a 4 hours time offset. Bug#442854: hex-a-hop: [m68k] FTBFS: packfile.h:57: error: size of array 'static_assert1' is negative
Hi m68k porters! Could you please help me resolving a problem on the m68k architecture? I'm the maintainer of hex-a-hop, a funny SDL game, which was mainly written for i386. During my attempts to make it big endian clean I also added a static assert test which aim was to check for proper alignment of a data structure. I think my test sizeof(Entry)==8 is wrong as it failed on m68k. Nevertheless I'm nearly sure that this platform doesn't align a char[1] array on 64 bit boundaries so the code should work :-) Some parts of the code need to rewritten to properly support all (or at least more) architectures. But for now I just want to know whether the current code works. Can someone please compile and start the attached C program? It just collects some basic system properties such as sizeof() and tests the suspicious code fragment. Please send me the output. You may also directly test hex-a-hop, except the affected test sizeof(Entry)==8 (I suggest to comment this line out in debian/patches/endianess.patch) it should compile and run fine (I hope). At least it does a type conversion on a char array which is bad style. an array of type Entry. I knew that this could cause trouble so I added the Jens #include stdio.h #include stdint.h #include string.h typedef struct Entry { int32_t len; // could there be an alignment gap here? char name[1]; } Entry; int main(void) { int *int_ptr; void *void_ptr; int (*funct_ptr)(void); printf(sizeof(char): %ld bytes\n, sizeof(char)); printf(sizeof(short):%ld bytes\n, sizeof(short)); printf(sizeof(int): %ld bytes\n, sizeof(int)); printf(sizeof(long): %ld bytes\n, sizeof(long)); printf(sizeof(long long):%ld bytes\n, sizeof(long long)); printf(--\n); printf(sizeof(float):%ld bytes\n, sizeof(float)); printf(sizeof(double): %ld bytes\n, sizeof(double)); printf(sizeof(long double): %ld bytes\n, sizeof(long double)); printf(--\n); printf(sizeof(*int_ptr): %ld bytes\n, sizeof(int_ptr)); printf(sizeof(*void_ptr):%ld bytes\n, sizeof(void_ptr)); printf(sizeof(*funct_ptr): %ld bytes\n\n, sizeof(funct_ptr)); printf(sizeof(Entry):%ld bytes\n\n, sizeof(Entry)); char tmp[10]; int i; for (i=0; i10; ++i) tmp[i] = i; Entry *e = (Entry*)(tmp[0]); printf(e.len=%d, e.name[0]=%d\n, e-len, e-name[0]); printf(Expected len (little endian): %d , 0+1*(18)+2*(116)+3*(124)); printf((big endian): %d , 3+2*(18)+1*(116)+0*(124)); printf(name[0]: 4\n\n); strcpy(e-name, Hi\n); for (i=0; i10; ++i) printf(%d , tmp[i]); printf(\n); printf(Expected:\n0 1 2 3 72 105 10 0 8 9\n\n); // Now try the same if *e is differently aligned (could be forbidden?) Bug#309198: Define a special action when stopping the firewall
shutting down my firewall I want all network traffic to an from the internet blocked. Current situation is, that shutting done the firewall nothing is blocked. Although this bug is 2 years old, I agree that it's a serious problem that deserves to be fixed. I noticed it right away when I installed firehol: the normal shutdown sequence of '/etc/init.d/firehol stop' allows all traffic to pass until the interfaces are brought down. The proposed patch is simple and would solve the problem. I would go even further however, by * setting the default STOP_ACTION to 'panic' instead of 'stop'. * inserting a warning into /etc/default/firehol, warning users not to use STOP_ACTION=stop. Bug#443054: po4a: [man] suggest a way to hide strings from po4a
Package: po4a Version: 0.31-1 Severity: wishlist I recently started adding po4a support to man-db for its own manual pages. In general I was very impressed with its parsing, but of course there were a few cases where I wanted to hide strings from po4a (such as environment variable names used as headings rather than in the middle of sentences), and I spent a little while trying to think of a convenient and reasonably clear way to suppress this. The best I came up with was to use -o groff_code=verbatim and say: .if !'po4a'hide' So, for example: .B \-q, \-\-quiet becomes: .if !'po4a'hide' .B \-q, \-\-quiet There may be a better way that uses a dedicated macro so that we can just say -o untranslated=Ph or something, but I only had a small amount of time to work on this and so didn't get that far. Perhaps it would be useful to document my suggestion or an improvement on it in Locale::Po4a::Man(3pm) (of course with a warning that it should not be used in the middle of sentences such that it would break up something that should be translated in one piece)? Bug#433836: nautilus: No documentation on which volumen devices icons are shown and which filtered
tag 433836 wontfix thanks Le jeudi 19 juillet 2007 à 21:16 +0200, Javier Fernández-Sanguino Peña a écrit : Package: nautilus Version: 2.18.1-3 Priority: minor In my Desktop environment I have a number of volumens presented to all users which I would like to hide or filter from their Desktop view. There is no documentation on why specific volumes are shown and/or filtered, and googling I've found that I could use gconf-editor to modify apps/nautilus/desktop/volumes_visible to hide them. ¿Could it be possible to hide/unhide volumes using an option in the context menu for devices? It would be much easier for users to hide them than using the gconf-editor. Hi, I'm afraid that if we start adding such options, we are going to fill the context menus with tons of things that serve once every two years for a small number of users. I think it would be more valuable to improve the heuristics that determine whether a specific volume should be displayed or not. reassign 433960 notification-daemon,bsdutils thanks Le samedi 21 juillet 2007 à 16:12 +0300, =?UTF-8?Q? Martin-=C3=89ric?= Racine a écrit : Ideally, GNOME would simply have a way to catch all wall messages (such as those issued by 'reboot') and to display them via the notification area. I'm not 100% sure, but it should be feasible with notification-daemon. Ideally, the shutdown command should send notifications by dbus when it is available, and notification-daemon should display them. Could the notification daemon perhaps acquire a feature to listen to wall messages and display them, then? Likewise, this could be used to catch attempts to contact the user via deprecated UNIX tools based on concepts similar to wall e.g. talk and to display the output via the notification area. If you feel that this wishlist bug would be more appropriate for another package like notification-daemon, zenity or other parts of the Galago project, feel free to reassign. I think this issue is both up to the galago and bsdutils maintainers. First, a dbus interface should be defined for sending such messages. Then, wall could call dbus-send when available, and notification-daemon would have to listen to this interface. If the bsdutils maintainer disagrees, the solution will imply notification-daemon (or an intermediate process) using a pseudo-tty only for this matter, and it sounds quite hackish. Cheers, -- .''`. Yes, that could be useful. reassign 443039 gjdoc merge 439468 443039 thanks Lucas, you already reported this as #439468, and I already reassigned it and merged it with the other FTBFS that gjdoc is causing. I don't suppose your scripts could refrain from filing further bugs on the subject? If you feel there should be a serious bug filed against my package, could you assign the existing ones back, with justification, rather than filing new ones. Bug#443059: GDM and the keyboard freezes while trying to load xwindows

With the video driver vesa there is no problem. It happens since I upgraded xserver-xorg-video-ati (and many other xorg packages due to yesterdays upgrade). Please run '/usr/share/bugs/xserver-xorg-core/script 31' and send the output to this bug. Cheers, Julien

Hello, I can confirm this bug, although it is quite hard to reproduce it (I was able to reproduce it only on one machine out of several almost identical ones). I was able to track down the bug to the diff between svn revisions 743 and 744 (The svn diff is attached). Indeed, after reverting this change, everything works. Bug#443062: googleearth-package does not create a debian package
Package: googleearth-package Version: 0.0.4 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Hi, /usr/bin/make-googleearth-package reports that it does'nt know Google Earth, version 4.1.7076.4458 and fails to build the debian package. So when using the command : # /usr/bin/make-googleearth-package --force It reports a false positive. The debian package is not created. See below for a transcript. I also noticed that an old version of the GoogleEarthLinux.bin is downloaded(4.1.7076.4458), using this program. I manually downloaded the latest version (4.2.198.2451) and tried that too, which also fails to build the Debian package. ... ... ... dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: format of `NEEDED ./libIGUtils.so' not recognized dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: format of `NEEDED ./libIGOpt.so' not recognized dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: format of `NEEDED ./libIGExportCommon.so' not recognized Package: googleearth Version: -1 Section: non-free/science Priority: optional Maintainer: Architecture: i386 Depends: ttf-dejavu | ttf-bitstream-vera, libc6 (= 2.3.6-6), libfontconfig1 (= 2.4.0), libfreetype6 (= 2.2), libgl1-mesa-glx | libgl1, libice6 (= 1:1.0.0), libsm6, libx11-6, libxcursor1 ( 1.1.2), libxext6, libxft2 ( 2.1.1), libxrender1 Description: Google Earth, a 3D map/planet viewer Package built with googleearth-package. dpkg-deb: parse error, in file `/root/googleearth-deb/DEBIAN/control' near line 10 package `googleearth': empty value for version Success!
