Bug#395093: Also crashes on other sites with Complex Unicode titles

2007-09-18 Thread Anuradha Ratnaweera
Hi there,

After applying the fix described in:

http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg16015.html

FVWM 2.5.21 that comes with Debian Lenny doesn't crash anymore. This
fix is already in upstream (2.5.23 I think), but isn't it possible to
backport?

Thanks in advance?

Bug#443048: abiword: crash on startup

2007-09-18 Thread G. Milde
Package: abiword
Version: 2.4.6-2.1
Severity: normal

Since upgrading abiword to the 2.4 series, when I start abiword, the splash
screen appears for a second, then it aborts with::

  # abiword
  Aborted

In the working dir, an emergency file Unbenannt1.abw.SAVED is left.

This pertains both, abiword and abiword-gnome in versions 2.4.5* and 2.4.6*

As this problem seems not too common, I suspect is has to do with my setup
or some cruft, however I'm using a mixed testing/unstable system and I am
not aware of something special. Upgrading all dependencies to the latest
version did not help.

thanks

Bug#443044: x11-xserver-utils: xmodmap run at X startup no longer takes effect

When starting X, running xmodmap from e.g. ~/.xsession no longer
changes any mappings. Strange thing is, running xmodmap from a
terminal after X has started still works.

This could be due to a server reset which happens whenever the last
client disconnects. A server reset is usually noticeable due to the
server re-programming the video mode. You can avoid resets by starting
the Xserver with the -noreset command line option or by keeping a client
running in the background.

Bug#432755: flashplugin-nonfree: Still old version in repository

2007-09-18 Thread G.P. Burth
Package: flashplugin-nonfree
Version: 9.0.31.0.1
Followup-For: Bug #432755

Hi!
I still have the old 9.0.31 version of the package shown to me in aptitude
although
there should be an update according to this bug list -- so i still get the md5
error.

My sources.list:
deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ etch main non-free contrib
deb-src http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ etch main non-free contrib

deb http://security.debian.org/ etch/updates main contrib non-free
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ etch/updates main contrib non-free

deb http://volatile.debian.org/debian-volatile etch/volatile main contrib
non-free

Do i need additional deb lines in there? In the current state this
package is unusable! The new version is exactly 1 month old now...

Another idea:
Wouldn't it be better to re-write this package like the package that gets (got)
the
Microsoft TrueType fonts: so the person who installs it can download it
beforehand and
just give the location? OK, md5 sum would not be automagically checked this
way...

Bug#442028: freeguide: Displayed time offset

2007-09-18 Thread Andy Balaam

Hi Pascal,

We've seen problems with times being offset in the past, and it has
sometimes turned out to be some kind of strange behaviour with the way
Sun Java handles time zones. There is some debate about the best way to
fix it.

I believe the fix you found (opening the date/time dialog in GNOME and
setting the time zone) probably touched a file that Sun Java looks at to
determine what time zone you are in.

This thread is a good place to start investigating further:

http://www.nabble.com/Problem-with-time-in-FreeGuide-TV-tf1732683.html#a4784596

and the Ubuntu bug which is linked from there might also be helpful.

Please do keep us informed if you make any progress.

Thanks very much,

Andy

Starting with 0.10.5 I've a 4 hours time offset.
Pressing View Now brings me at the right place, these are the current

e.g. Right now, it's 11h52, but time displayed is 15h52.

It believe this belongs upstream, but since i've already sent a message

Bug#442854: hex-a-hop: [m68k] FTBFS: packfile.h:57: error: size of array 'static_assert1' is negative

2007-09-18 Thread Jens Seidel
Hi m68k porters!

Could you please help me resolving a problem on the m68k architecture?
I'm the maintainer of hex-a-hop, a funny SDL game, which was mainly
written for i386. During my attempts to make it big endian clean I also
added a static assert test which aim was to check for proper alignment
of a data structure.

I think my test sizeof(Entry)==8 is wrong as it failed on m68k.
Nevertheless I'm nearly sure that this platform doesn't align a char[1]
array on 64 bit boundaries so the code should work :-)

Some parts of the code need to rewritten to properly support all (or at
least more) architectures. But for now I just want to know whether the
current code works.

Can someone please compile and start the attached C program? It just
collects some basic system properties such as sizeof() and tests the
suspicious code fragment. Please send me the output.

You may also directly test hex-a-hop, except the affected test
sizeof(Entry)==8 (I suggest to comment this line out in
debian/patches/endianess.patch) it should compile and run fine (I hope).

Bug#309198: Define a special action when stopping the firewall

2007-09-18 Thread Andrew Schulman
shutting down my firewall I want all network traffic to an from the
 internet blocked.

Current situation is, that shutting done the firewall nothing is blocked.

Although this bug is 2 years old, I agree that it's a serious problem that
deserves to be fixed. I noticed it right away when I installed firehol:
the normal shutdown sequence of '/etc/init.d/firehol stop' allows all
traffic to pass until the interfaces are brought down.

The proposed patch is simple and would solve the problem. I would go even
further however, by

* setting the default STOP_ACTION to 'panic' instead of 'stop'.

* inserting a warning into /etc/default/firehol, warning users not to use
STOP_ACTION=stop.

Thanks,
Andrew.

This looks better. Can you add a 'Virtual 1600 1600' line to the
Display subsection of your Screen section, and then after X is up run
xrandr --output VGA --mode 1600x1200?

Cheers,

I can test that tomorrow, not local anymore.

   SubSection Display
   Depth 24
   Modes 1600x1200
   Virtual 1600 1600

EndSection

Will let you know tomorrow, thanks!

Yes this works, hmm, what is the recommended way to make this happen at KDM
time?

# A program to run before the greeter is shown. Can be used to start an
# xconsole or an alternative background generator. Subject to word
splitting.

# Default is
Setup=/etc/kde3/kdm/Xsetup

This works, thanks again, is this problem/solution documented anywhere
btw?

Also, the Virtual was not needed, I removed that from the config, re-ran
the xrandr, it worked fine.

it builds just fine; so I can only guess that you have used a broken
chroot for your tests. Can you please verify if you still can reproduce
this FTBFS with an up-to-date chroot?

Since we don't even know for sure what command line you used that caused
you a problem, I can't really help with that. I can tell you that I use
dd all the time and don't have issues anything like you described.

Bug#443054: po4a: [man] suggest a way to hide strings from po4a

2007-09-18 Thread Colin Watson
Package: po4a
Version: 0.31-1
Severity: wishlist

I recently started adding po4a support to man-db for its own manual
pages. In general I was very impressed with its parsing, but of course
there were a few cases where I wanted to hide strings from po4a (such as
environment variable names used as headings rather than in the middle of
sentences), and I spent a little while trying to think of a convenient
and reasonably clear way to suppress this. The best I came up with was
to use -o groff_code=verbatim and say:

  .if !'po4a'hide'

So, for example:

  .B \-q, \-\-quiet

becomes:

  .if !'po4a'hide' .B \-q, \-\-quiet

There may be a better way that uses a dedicated macro so that we can
just say -o untranslated=Ph or something, but I only had a small amount
of time to work on this and so didn't get that far.

Perhaps it would be useful to document my suggestion or an improvement
on it in Locale::Po4a::Man(3pm) (of course with a warning that it should
not be used in the middle of sentences such that it would break up
something that should be translated in one piece)?

Thanks,

 Not much better :(

Splitting the documentation part of the package will solve this problem.
I have a patch ready for this, but we first wanted to fix all the RC
bugs before introducing such a fundamental change.

If someone is inclined to try it out, the patch is in svn
texlive-new/patches/doc-splitting.patch. It works.

Best wishes

Yes, you're right. All official Debian architectures support IPv6.
That's why I set the severity to wishlist. I'm trying to port Debian to a new
architecture, which doesn't support IPv6. See

http://www.debian-interix.net/ for more details.

Thanks for consideration

Yes this works, hmm, what is the recommended way to make this happen at KDM
 time?

In the Screen section, add:
Option Monitor-VGA my vga monitor
Then add a new section like this:
Section Monitor
Identifier my vga monitor
Option PreferredMode 1600x1200
EndSection

This is from memory, so I might have misremembered something; see
xorg.conf(5) for the details.

Bug#443052: Galeon goes into an infinite loop saving a page that contains #8230;

2007-09-18 Thread Martin Guy
Package: galeon
Version: 2.0.2-4

Saving the page http://www.apexonline.com/melodybar/cataf~1.htm to a
local file, galeon goes into an infinite loop consuming 100% CPU.
strace reveals that it is doing:
write(24, , 0);
write(24, , 0);
write(24, #48;, 5);
repeatedly, and the output file contains an infinite repetition of
#48; from the point where an ellipsis character ('...', so to
speak) should be.

A minimal sample file that provokes the behaviour is

htmlhead/headbody
page 10#8230; (JC)
/body/html

which you can also load as
http://martinwguy.co.uk/martin/debian/bugs/galeon-8230.html
Reproduce the behaviour by loading that page with galeon and saving
the file as something.

Environment:
Debian etch for i386 under X server sis and fvwm 2.5.18 (not gnome)
on dual AMD Athlon

Ran a couple of quick compile tests, gcc-4.0 works gcc-4.1 and gcc-4.2

generated code is though.

In the short term, can the build famr be forced to use gcc-4.0 ?

This is technically the same issue as 442059. Both is due to R_LastvalueSymbol
having been removed (or rather it's just no longer visible in libR.so) in R
2.6.0 (alpha).

A fixed version will be uploaded, soon.

Bug#443056: openssh: ssh -w tunnel example

2007-09-18 Thread Justin Pryzby
Package: openssh
Version: 4.3p2-9.1
Severity: wishlist

ssh(1) includes some documentation for ad-hoc ipsec vpn with ssh -w,
but refers to a script /etc/netstart.sh. Apparently this is a
bsdism [0]; I think Debian's docs should include instead an example
that works for under its own OS.

For reference, I used the following command:
sudo env SSH_AUTH_SOCK=$SSH_AUTH_SOCK ssh -f -F `pwd`/.ssh/config -vw
0 [EMAIL PROTECTED] ifconfig tun0 10.0.50.1 pointopoint 10.0.50.2 ; sudo
ifconfig tun0 10.0.50.2 pointopoint 10.0.50.1

The env and pwd bits are due to changing environment/home. -w 0
might not be right (should be 0:0 or such). Note the unfortunate
spelling of pointopoint.

In my Desktop environment I have a number of volumens presented to all users
which I would like to hide or filter from their Desktop view. There is no
documentation on why specific volumes are shown and/or filtered, and googling
I've found that I could use gconf-editor to modify
 apps/nautilus/desktop/volumes_visible to hide them.

¿Could it be possible to hide/unhide volumes using an option in the context
menu for devices? It would be much easier for users to hide them than using
 the gconf-editor.

Hi,

I'm afraid that if we start adding such options, we are going to fill
the context menus with tons of things that serve once every two years
for a small number of users.

I think it would be more valuable to improve the heuristics that
determine whether a specific volume should be displayed or not. Feel
free to open bugs about volumes that are displayed with no usefulness
for the user.

Ideally, GNOME would simply have a way to catch all wall messages
(such as those issued by 'reboot') and to display them via the

I'm not 100% sure, but it should be feasible with notification-daemon.
Ideally, the shutdown command should send notifications by dbus when it
is available, and notification-daemon should display them.

Could the notification daemon perhaps acquire a feature to listen to
wall messages and display them, then? Likewise, this could be used to
catch attempts to contact the user via deprecated UNIX tools based on
concepts similar to wall e.g. talk and to display the output via the
 notification area.

If you feel that this wishlist bug would be more appropriate for
another package like notification-daemon, zenity or other parts of the
Galago project, feel free to reassign.

I think this issue is both up to the galago and bsdutils maintainers.
First, a dbus interface should be defined for sending such messages.
Then, wall could call dbus-send when available, and notification-daemon
would have to listen to this interface.

If the bsdutils maintainer disagrees, the solution will imply
notification-daemon (or an intermediate process) using a pseudo-tty only
for this matter, and it sounds quite hackish.

Yes, that could be useful. The dialog should appear if JabRef can read
the version number from the file, and it is 2.2 or less, and the
specifics of the dialog depend on whether the bib file has any ps/pdf
links, and on your settings for showing the file icon table column
(IIRC). There must be something fishy in these conditions that
determine whether the dialog should be shown.

your version of mplayer is very old, and never uploaded in Debian
proper; to upgrade, you must first remove by hand (due to a change in
 the version number scheme), using

 # dpkg -r mplayer

Note that with the version 1.0~rc1-12etch in Debian/etch the bug does
 not occour.

For example, when I play an 'mp3' with mplayer, and there is a problem
opening the sound device, then mplayer prints a warning and then
Starting playback and then a bunch of realtime statistics like it's
  playing the song.

I tried this, on a notebook with crappy audio, I opened xmms and played

It would be great if you could find the time to do the same and report

In the meantime (and working under the assumption there are no serious

knows how was to go ahead and check it in ;).

These are the packages it builds:

It would have been better if you had asked if you can take this, so now
there is duplicate work beeing done! Actually my package *is* ready and
is jut waiting for my sponsor to upload it.
I would have asked before starting on the package but I figured since it
was nine months since you submitted your ITP and you had not posted any
updates or reasons why it was taking so long, it was unlikely that you
were actively working on it.

Even though my package is not needed, building it wasn't a complete
waste of time for me: it gave me an opportunity to get familiar with the

Bug#422292: libgtkhtml3.14-19: Strings are not translated

So the translations are installed (at least for me on both i386 and
amd64 with the newest unstable version) - but not used.

Yes, same on my (amd64) setup.

Is there a specific program in which you can't see the translated
strings? This so I can reproduce the problem and go from there.

Sure, just compose a new email in evolution, and see the formatting
toolbar. There is a Normal/Preformat/Bulleted list/... combo box, and
it isn't translated, despite the translations for it being present in
the .mo file.

Joey Hess wrote
Currently in unstable there are three packages left that use xaw6:

   xkbsel
   snake4

If all of these were updated, then we could drop the package and close
 this bug.

All these three packages now use libxaw7.

However, screenkast now exists, and uses libxaw6. I'll file a bug against it.

Bug#443061: please rebuild against libxaw7

2007-09-18 Thread Drew Parsons
Package: screenkast
Version: 0.1.4-2
Severity: serious
Tags: security

Hi, screenkast currently has a Build-Depends: libxaw6-dev, and
therefore a Depends: libxaw6 in the binary package.

libxaw6 is deprecated, superseded by libxaw7, and it contains a
security flaw where passwords are shown in plain text, see Debian bug
#172890 [ http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=172890 ]

Could you please therefore rebuild screenkast using libxaw7 rather
than libxaw6?

screenkast is the last package using libxaw6. After fixing this bug we
will be free to remove it from Debian altogether.

Thanks,

Drew Parsons

Bug#441948: [Pkg-net-snmp-devel] Bug#441948: AES fixed in 5.4.1 (in experimental)

2007-09-18 Thread Jochen Friedrich
Hi Brendan,

I installed snmp 5.4.1 from experimental onto a Lenny box and the AES
seems to be compiled in, so I guess this bug should be closed.

How soon can we get snmp 5.4 into testing ???

It's an overdue issue anyways. Thomas and me already decided to get
5.4.1 into lenny, we just didn't do it because of several ongoing
library transitions at that time.

I'll try to get it out this week as I'm on holidays later.

Thanks,
Jochen

Lucas, you already reported this as #439468, and I already reassigned
it and merged it with the other FTBFS that gjdoc is causing. I don't
suppose your scripts could refrain from filing further bugs on the
subject? If you feel there should be a serious bug filed against my

rather than filing new ones.

Hi,

/usr/bin/make-googleearth-package reports that it does'nt know Google

So when using the command :

# /usr/bin/make-googleearth-package --force

It reports a false positive. The debian package is not created. See
below for a transcript.

I also noticed that an old version of the GoogleEarthLinux.bin is
downloaded(4.1.7076.4458), using this program. I manually downloaded the latest
version (4.2.198.2451) and tried that too, which also fails to build the
Debian package.

Bug#437518: libsdl-pango-dev: inconsistent line ends in SDL_Pango.h (DOS/Unix)

I really like the functionality of api_additions.patch and need it for
hex-a-hop. Nevertheless I wonder why it was added to Debian and not to
upstream. Did upstream rejected this patch? I want to be compatible
 with it ...

I'm under the impression that SDL_pango is unmaintained upstream...
