Bug#443404: ARM: DES key for N4100Plus
Sorry Martin, I know you got this already, but I forgot to CC: the BTS. and /app/manifest.txt probably says type n4100pro and producer THECUS, right? /app/manifest.txt: typeN4100Plus producerTHECUS No idea why it's inconsistent with the scheme used by the other ones. As far as I can tell, the hardware in the N4100+ is the same as in the N4100, except the second optional ethernet interface is always present. Bug#443647: xkb-data missing some characters in gurmukhi (gur) keymap
Package: xkb-data Version: 1.0~cvs.20070721-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable *** Please type your report below this line *** Hello, xkb-data 'gur' keymap is missing two characters (there may be more, however, that I may have not come across yet!) from Gurmukhi making it impossible to correctly type an article. The two characters are: 1) Unicode character: 0A72 (addak), which is ੱ 2) Unicode character: 0A5C (Rharha), which is ੜ To get (2) above by typing SHIFT+A30 (I am not sure where it should go according to the standard based on which others are placed on a keyboard, but I am guessing it can be put as SHIFT+A30), line no. 50 in /etc/X11/xkb/symbols/gur may be changed to the following: key AC07 { [], [ 0x1000A30, 0x1000A5C ] }; The first one is a bit tricky. It appears that it should be mapped to the key X on the US querty keyboard. Here is one way to get this, by modifying line 58 of xkb-data package to the following (this key already has two chars. assigned to it, so addak will have to typed using the modifier key): key AB02 { [], [ 0x1000A02, 0x1000A70, 0x1000A71 ] }; The above two are just suggestions on how get around the problem. The maintainer, of course, is free to research if a better method, or a correct one, exists to solve this problem. Bug#443625: Help needed with diagnosis...
First, I'm the GNUnet maintainer (upstream, not Debian). I think this is the same bug as what was reported at: https://gnunet.org/mantis/view.php?id=1278 The main problem is that I'm unable to reproduce the problem on my systems (and I'm running Debian unstable). I've tried with guile-1.8 from stableunstable as well as using i386 and AMD64-bit systems without luck. If you could do the same thing *with* debug symbols enabled (you'll need to compile by hand), we would get a line number for the segv, which would be great. Also, check if running gnunet-setup with the -d option works -- maybe it is a problem in the Scheme/Guile code, and -d would use the Scheme specification for the daemon, which is different. Thanks for reporting, sorry I can't provide an immediate fix. Christian -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bug#443648: openslp: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review
Package: openslp Version: N/A Severity: normal Tags: patch Dear Debian maintainer, On Wednesday, September 05, 2007, I notified you of the beginning of a review process concerning debconf templates for openslp. The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates, and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report. Please review the suggested changes are suggested, and if you have any objections, let me know in the next 3 days. Please try to avoid uploading openslp with these changes right now. The second phase of this process will begin on Wednesday, September 26, 2007, when I will coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates. The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will receive an updated PO file for their language. Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to the debian-i18n mailing list. Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with. The call for translation updates and new translations will run until about Wednesday, October 17, 2007. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or changed debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of course, other changes are safe. Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact that I simultaneously work on many packages. Around DAY25, I will contact you again and will send a final patch summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates, updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations). No ;-) It is supposed that including a #include header.h will not break C code. You suppose wrong. There are lots of ways that this can break, including setting an incorrect -I option that results in pulling a header from a subdir under the wrong name. If the pkg-config --cflags freetype2 is required, you should move the ft2build.h from /usr/include/ to /usr/include/freetype2/ so that the file will be found only if the right pkg-config is found. Well, I don't see any reason that ft2build.h needs to be in /usr/include directly, but I also don't find any reason that it needs to be moved into the subdirectory. So I'm not going to make any particular effort to move this header, unless you see that the placement is somehow a Debian-specific bug that I can fix by /removing/ code. Otherwise, please discuss the placement of this header with upstream if you think it needs to change. BTW, the header states at the top: /* This is a Unix-specific version of ft2build.h that should be used */ /* exclusively *after* installation of the library. */ /* */ /* It assumes that `/usr/local/include/freetype2' (or whatever is*/ /* returned by the `freetype-config --cflags' or `pkg-config --cflags' */ /* command) is in your compilation include path. */ So at least the current placement doesn't appear to be accidental. BTW, personally I find pkg-config only hacks for local installations, but a distribution IMHO should already install and put together things in a better way, but maybe this will be a future step. No, it won't be. There are many libraries where pkg-config is the standard upstream convention used to specify include/library paths, and applications which want to use these libraries portably will always need to use pkg-config. And pkg-config is far better than all preceding solutions anyway. Cheers, -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. (It seems that any limit we'd choose is arbitrary and an override of the upstream value, so I'm not particularly bothered by the number, just wondering if there's a rationale for this cutoff.) I think that 0 being the default AND a way to disable usershares, we need to setup a limit if we want to activate the feature. Indeed, upstream's default is a bit strange here. I would more expect one setting to activate usershares and another one to specify the maximum number (with 0 meaning no limit). Something like: usershare = yes usershare max shares = integer The current design completely prevents setting no limit at all except by setting the limit to an outrageously high number. It's easier to add more groups to the list of default permissions for single-user systems than it is to split a group after the fact. Sure, I more or less had the same feeling. Bug#443660: libc6: dgettext not thread-safe
Package: libc6 Version: 2.6.1-5 Severity: important Tags: l10n Hello, Recent version of libc6 seems to include a libintl that regularly crashes when gettext is invoked from different threads simultaneously. This renders gettext mostly unusable on multi-threaded software. I had been suspecting a bug in VLC and banging my head around, but it appears that this can be reproduced with code as simple as the piece above. It triggers a segmentation fault on a very time-dependant basis. It seems a lot easier to reproduce under valgrind, though I also get segfaults when run without debuggers: #include stdio.h #include pthread.h #include locale.h #include libintl.h static void *run (void *dummy) { (void)dummy; for (;;) printf (Translation code: %s\n, dgettext(vlc, C)); } int main (void) { unsigned i; setlocale (LC_ALL, ); bindtextdomain (vlc, /usr/share/locale); pthread_t threads[300]; for (i = 0; i sizeof (threads) / sizeof (threads[0]); i++) pthread_create (threads + i, NULL, run, NULL); run (NULL); return 0; } When the problem occurs under valgrind, it complains: ==3535== Thread 3: ==3535== Invalid read of size 4 ==3535==at 0x4063F0B: _nl_find_msg (dcigettext.c:862) ==3535==by 0x4064A41: __dcigettext (dcigettext.c:639) ==3535==by 0x4063972: dcgettext (dcgettext.c:53) ==3535==by 0x406399F: dgettext (dgettext.c:54) ==3535==by 0x80484DD: run (in /home/remi/a.out) ==3535==by 0x402D2D2: start_thread (pthread_create.c:296) ==3535==by 0x41124ED: clone (in /usr/lib/debug/libc-2.6.1.so) ==3535== Address 0x418C91C is 0 bytes after a block of size 12 alloc'd ==3535==at 0x4024862: realloc (vg_replace_malloc.c:306) ==3535==by 0x4063FF1: _nl_find_msg (dcigettext.c:876) ==3535==by 0x4064A41: __dcigettext (dcigettext.c:639) ==3535==by 0x4063972: dcgettext (dcgettext.c:53) ==3535==by 0x406399F: dgettext (dgettext.c:54) ==3535==by 0x80484DD: run (in /home/remi/a.out) ==3535==by 0x402D2D2: start_thread (pthread_create.c:296) ==3535==by 0x41124ED: clone (in /usr/lib/debug/libc-2.6.1.so) There appears to be a similar issue with strerror_r() also. Bug#443576: Strict aliasing problem
Phil Endecott [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: I think I found a bug in gcc-4.2 int i, j; printf(%d %d\n, j, (void *)(j)); This looks like a strict-aliasing issue to me; you're casting from an int to a void*, which is undefined. Casting from int to void* is not undefined, but implementation defined. Also, this clearly has nothing to do with aliasing, since aliasing is about accessing objects using an lvalue of a bad type, and not about casting. I would rather guess this is the same problem as #440545 (caused by a bug in SCEV). -- Falk -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#443230: Enable net usershare

Only members of the group +# owning the path will be able to use the net usershare command. + usershare path = /var/lib/samba/usershares Could this be better addressed by fixing the built-in default in the binary instead of requiring an override in smb.conf? (The current default seems to be /var/run/samba/usershares, which is simply wrong.) I agree here. We should propose a patch to upstream as I don't see any reason to have a default to /var/run/samba/usershares ahem better make it part of the fhs patch submission then, since that's ultimately where this comes from. :) +# Maximum number of usershare. 0 (default) means that usershare is disabled. + usershare max shares = 100 Why 100 as the max shares limit? (It seems that any limit we'd choose is arbitrary and an override of the upstream value, so I'm not particularly bothered by the number, just wondering if there's a rationale for this cutoff.) I think that 0 being the default AND a way to disable usershares, we need to setup a limit if we want to activate the feature. Yes, clearly so. Indeed, upstream's default is a bit strange here. I would more expect one setting to activate usershares and another one to specify the maximum number (with 0 meaning no limit). Something like: usershare = yes usershare max shares = integer I'm not sure that we would want the share count to be unlimited by default either, though? On Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 10:50:01PM +0200, Christian Perrier wrote: A first concern comes with the dedicated group name. Should we use smbshare and then still advertise that obsolete acronym (SMB) which is however known by nearly everybody? How about sambashare or samba-share? Bug#406457: Me too
Just saw this myself. Standard etch install (upgraded from sarge), 2.6.18-5-686 kernel, gdm. I added console=ttyS0,9600n8 and later console=tty0 console=ttyS0,9600n8 to the boot options in the hope of getting some info to diagnose an infrequent system freeze. In both cases, When gdm came up after the reboot it was unresponsive to keyboard input (mouse fine) until either I - ssh-ed into the machine and restarted gdm or - used the mouse to click to the XDMCP chooser (which was observed to respond to keyboard) then cancel back to the login prompt (which then accepted keyboard). -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. There's no reason to /expect/ mount.cifs to use settings in smb.conf, but the reason to /want/ mount.cifs to use them is for an improved user experience, providing consistency between the userspace tools and the kernel mount interface. Bug#442425: debian-el: suggest apt-utils-show-package defer package name completions
Kevin Ryde writes: But I couldn't test on xemacs, it seems to take ages building the package lists (without me doing anything to it yet :-), 20 minutes and still going. I suspect split-string is taking quadratic time somehow. If true it's xemacs's problem, though you might consider having apt-utils-build-completion-table directly build a list instead of going through a buffer (there's other split-strings, so that isn't a complete fix). Hi Kevin, Thanks for the updated patch. Looks good with initial testing. I'll check it into CVS in a couple of days. I can't remember why split-string is used in apt-utils-build-completion-table; maybe there is no good reason. The problem remains with the use of split-string in apt-utils-build-package-list, with quadratic time, or whatever the dependence is, is confined to mule variants IIRC, the nomule variants working OK. Bug#436536: xserver-xorg-video-ati: Xorg does not start on a PowerMacintosh 9600/300 with an ATI Mach64 PCI video card

It is worth noting that I am not able to get millions of colors in Mac OS 8.6 either (but the other color depths work). One final note. I'm using Ben Herrenschmidt's Mac OS utility BootX to boot Linux on this machine. If I select the No Video Driver option in BootX (which is equivalent to passing video=ofonly, i.e. using Open Firmware video settings) I get 1152x870 on the Linux console. If I don't use that option, I get something like 640x480 on the console. However, this in no way affects the behavior of the X server, it does not work either way. Maybe this issue is unrelated, but I thought that reporting it couldn't hurt. Please let me know if there are any other tests you want me to perform. Testing xserver-xorg-video-ati 6.7.193 currently in experimental would be nice (or 6.7.192 if 193 is not build on powerpc yet). Bug#440918: xserver-xorg-video-ati: supertux lost its textures after hibernation

Sorry for the delay then... 1:6.7.192-1~7.2 is not a package version from Debian, please test with an official package, especially 1:6.7.193-1 currently in experimental. You'll have to upgrade to xserver-xorg-core 1.4, it might matter for suspend-related problems. when I play supertux (OpenGL mode is on), hibernate and resume the computer, supertux display is completely garbled (it seems like it has loast its textures, so everything looks like a rectangle), see screenshot. Apart from the dirty image, is the game apparently still playable? No lockup or so? If you exit supertux and restart it, do you get dirty textures again? What desktop environment are you running? Nothing compositing such as compiz, kwin, or enlightenment? Same problem if you start X using startx /usr/bin/xterm, launch twm and supertux in there? Please send the whole output of /usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg/script 31 (without gzipping it, please :)) Could you also show the difference between the Xorg log before and after suspend/resume? Brice

Bug#443405: Bug#437508: debarchiver now _always_ warns: Loading config file /etc/debarchiver.conf:\n^I\n^I in syslog, even if no error condition
tags 443405 + unreproducible help thanks Hi Julian I have now tried to reproduce your problem, but failed. The current code that cause the warning looks like this: if (-e $etcconfigfile) { my $t = do $etcconfigfile; unless ($t) { pdebug(3, Loading config file $etcconfigfile:\n\t$!\n\t$@); } } So I created the following test code: my $t = do test.conf; unless ($t) { print [EMAIL PROTECTED]; } And then copied your config file to test.conf. I did not get any output. This means that you must have some local problem, or that this is a bug in perl for the version you are using. I have also copied in your version to the debarchiver.conf file with a new installation of debarchiver, and I can not get the same fault as you. Do you have any special version of perl, or other things that can cause this problem? As expected, it did not make the warning go away. The ^I part is the error output from perl. It should contain the error code and error string. I do not know why it is ^I in your case. Odd. Bug#428154: Fix for londonlaw not working with current python-twisted
Hans de Goede [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Hi all, I'm a Fedora contributer and today I've been working on packaging londonlaw. While searching for a problem for the server not starting with recent python-twisted bug, I found the Debian bug report. I've managed to fix this issue now and I would like to share my fix with you, see the attached patch. Regards, Hans Thank you very much for your patch. A first test confirmed that I could start a server. I'd like to adress the other issue in the debian BTS and do a quick gametest to see that the package actually works and will make an upload to debian. Btw, do you happen to know what happened to Paul (londonlaw upstream)? He doesn't respond to my emails, so he seems to have fallen of the planet to me :( Anyway, thanks for your patch! -- Gruesse/greetings, Reinhard Tartler, KeyID 945348A4 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#443666: package problem?
Maybe it's problem of packaging and dependencies. After installing libgnustep-base-dev. At least the program could be compiled. But according to the GNUstep pages, one has to do the following to install all what is needed: apt-get install gnustep gnustep-devel gnustep-games but gnustep-devel does not load the -dev libraries But even if that is overcome the next problem still is there. I just can tell I had reported it to the GNUStep people around 3-6 months before. I will open a new bug on that... I found out, this is, when many changes in the content of a browser or a picture appear (somebody wrote about this, too). The package is definately NOT in the nvidia-kernel-source, nor in the kernel itself, it can be proved to be in nvidia-glx. There is also no log available, where you can see, what is happening. This bug can be found in versions 100.14.11 and 100.14.19, see also bug number 432182. It has been reported, this behaviour is on other distributions, too (I heard of Arch-Linux). The workaround is, to switch back to 100.14.09, which is running stable and without no errors. Please contact me, if I can help you. Best regards Hans-J. I have no difficulty on my system making this work, and so I can't diagnose the problem. My guess--and it's only a guess--is that your window manager is doing something unpleasant with the window. Bug#443675: libwmf0.2-7: should not depends on libgtk
On Sun, Sep 23, 2007, Cyrille Berger wrote: libwmf shouldn't depends on libgtk. It's not a gui library, further more it's a dependency for graphicsmagick which in turn is a dependency for Krita a KDE/Qt application, and I don't really see why I should have libgtk installed to use a KDE/Qt application. The libwmf Gdk provider module depends on the Gtk ABI to ensure compatibility; it really needs that depends, but the Gtk module should be split out. The problem is that splitting is not enough to ensure that Gtk programs depending on libwmf get the Gdk module, so I'm not sure how this is going to be fixed for the next stable release. I guess one way would be to stop depending on the gtk ABI virtual provide and hope that the Gtk ABI doesn't change until the next stable release. -- Loïc Minier

Bug#428154: Fix for londonlaw not working with current python-twisted
Reinhard Tartler wrote: Hans de Goede [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Hi all, I'm a Fedora contributer and today I've been working on packaging londonlaw. He doesn't respond to my emails, so he seems to have fallen of the planet to me :( I don't know what happened to him, I just started looking at londonlaw today. It would be great if you could try this version and see if the bug is gone. I'm waiting for it to reach testing. Please ping me if I don't answer it shortly after it reached testing. Bug#443638: bug-buddy: Failed to load module gnomebreakpad
reassign 443638 gnome-session thanks, On Sun, Sep 23, 2007 at 04:07:52PM +1200, Ian McDonald wrote: Today when I went to use gvim I get this error message: Gtk-Message: Failed to load module gnomebreakpad: libgnomebreakpad.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory gvim runs fine though. I suspect that this is to do with parts of gnome being upgraded to 2.20 and this package not yet but I'm not sure. This is causes by gnome-session 2.20 which adds gnomebreakpad to GTK_MODULES iff bug-buddy is installed. reassigning Sjoerd -- What the world *really* needs is a good Automatic Bicycle Sharpener. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. It's the same error! It only means that _nl_find_msg from dcigettext.c:862 tries to read at an address right after the end of a realloc() done at line 876 in the same file, as far as I understand. yes, speculative is that. As libc knows that memory can be read outside from an allocated block as soon as you don't go after the end of a page, it sometimes reads outside from the buffer to be able to compute lengths of strings or string comparisons, so I wouldn't care a lot. THe second block _is_ probably the issue, because the realloc could be performed in many thread at a time, hence corrupt the struct. I already reported the bug upstream, we'll see what Uli will say. -- ·O· Pierre Habouzit ··O[EMAIL PROTECTED] OOOhttp://www.madism.org pgpp24zpvRvJ3.pgp Description: PGP signature
