Bug#451765: of course [space] does _not_ work
Hi Michelle, I am not stupid. I am on Unix for 25 years. And since 0.95a I've got Linux on my desktop. Of course I tried the [space] and [enter] keys to select and deselect items in the preferences menu. But it doesn't work. Using the mouse in an xterm does work, but on the console I don't have mouse support installed. I can reproduce this for i386 and amd64 using aptitude 0.4.9-2. BTW, using [Shift-D] to hide the lower part of the Preferences screen doesn't work, either. I can use the arrow keys to scroll through the preferences options. though. Bug#452574: [Pkg-hpijs-devel] Bug#452574: spurious version numbering for hpijs packages
On Friday 23 November 2007, Fabian Greffrath wrote: Since version 2.7.x, both hplip and hpijs do have the same version number, making combined version numbers like '2.7.10+2.7.10-2' redundant. Additionally, it looks silly. ;) Please consider introducing a consistent version number for all hplip and hpijs related packages. Fabian, Thanks for your report. As you maybe aware we have a large amount of fixes to get hplip into a stable state before I would be happy for release with Debian. The consistency of version numbers whilst a presentation issue, doesn't detract from the functionality so will be looked at, but with a low priority. Bug#453783: apache2: CVE-2007-4465
Package: apache2 Severity: grave Justification: user security hole Seems to me that Debian (sarge or etch or even sid) apache packages are not yet patched against http://nvd.nist.gov/nvd.cfm?cvename=CVE-2007-4465 http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2007-4465 Seems to me that the obvious workarounds of turning Indexes off or having an index.html everywhere, protects just fine; and wonder why Apache does not say so. Liferea picks up its (default) rendering engine implementation from /usr/lib/xulrunner, thus this default configuration means there's no flash support in feeds. I'm CC:ing xulrunner's maintainer in case he knows a reason. There is somewhat a reason : we need a central directory where all plugins would be installed, and every application supporting NPAPI plugins would pick in this directory. Where this should be has not been decided. I wonder if /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins shouldn't be enough, though it's kind of unfair for konqueror and others. severity 453783 normal tags 453783 security found 453783 2.2.3-4 fixed 453783 2.2.6-1 thanks Hi, On Saturday 01 December 2007, Paul Szabo wrote: Seems to me that Debian (sarge or etch or even sid) apache packages are not yet patched against http://nvd.nist.gov/nvd.cfm?cvename=CVE-2007-4465 http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2007-4465 Seems to me that the obvious workarounds of turning Indexes off or having an index.html everywhere, protects just fine; and wonder why Apache does not say so. This is actually a bug in MSIE, see CVE-2006-5152. Sid and lenny have the workaround, but there is currently no plan to backport it to sarge and etch (as it is of low impact). Besides switching directory indexes of, setting AddDefaultCharset also protects from the issue. AddDefaultCharset is on in the default configurations in sarge and etch. Bug#453809: links should be absolute if browser is invoked on the filesystem
Package: dhelp Version: 0.6.0 Severity: normal Hi there, if I invoke dhelp on the console it fires up a browser with `file:///usr/share/doc/HTML/index.html', fine so far. If I retrieve the section overview now the links are absolute to the document root (i.e. `/doc/foo'). Thus in the browser it gets converted to `file:///doc/foo', which is just broken. The documentation isn't really surfable due to this issue. On an unrelated note I somehow got `System/Administration/' in the index which isn't generated (in the section overview it's a child of `Applications'). Bug#453783: apache2: CVE-2007-4465
Dear Stefan, This is actually a bug in MSIE, see CVE-2006-5152. Not a bug in IE only, I have a demo that exploits it under Firefox. (In fact my demo does not seem to work for IE, yet...) Not really related to CVE-2006-5152. In fact that is a non-issue: the CVE references my posts, but fails to reference my retraction http://lists.grok.org.uk/pipermail/full-disclosure/2006-October/049828.html ... no plan to backport ... it is of low impact. I do not think that XSS and cookie theft (thus access to all data protected by web login) is of low impact. ... setting AddDefaultCharset also protects from the issue. AddDefaultCharset is on in the default configurations ... Thanks for that other workaround: yes it seems to protect my machines. Now I am puzzled why AddDefaultCharset was commented out in my configs. Still puzzled why Apache did not mention these workarounds. Bug#453812: cpp: package provides a dangling symlink: FAQ.gz
Package: cpp Version: 4:4.2.1-6 Severity: minor Tags: This bug involves more then one package. I'm reporting this on package cpp, but package gcc contains the link, while package gcc-4.2 is missing the relevant file. I was unable to report a bug on package gcc since the package is a dependancy package (but dpkg -L gcc lists the dangling link, not cpp). Problem: symbolic link /usr/share/doc/cpp/FAQ.gz is pointing to ../gcc-4.2/FAQ.gz which does not exist. 2 solutions: - add /usr/share/doc/gcc-4.2-base/FAQ.gz to package gcc-4.2 (like in gcc-4.1). - remove symlink from package gcc. but IMHO: Cross package symboling links can never be very solid, and are asking for trouble. The problems is the use of popen() if an image is displayed which needs to be converted by imagemagick: if (NULL == loader) { /* no loader found, try to use ImageMagick's convert */ snprintf(command, sizeof(command), convert -depth 8 \%s\ ppm:-,filename); if (NULL == (fp = popen(command,r))) return NULL; loader = ppm_loader; } Since fbi is not suitable for non-interactive use and the filename would need to contain the commands to be executed I don't consider this a security problem. Still, it should be fixed. CCing upstream. Gerd, the popen() call needs to be sanitised or replaced. Cheers, Moritz -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#452875: xmlgraphics-commons: please build with free java implementation

Bug#453783: apache2: CVE-2007-4465
Hi Paul, On Saturday 01 December 2007, you wrote: This is actually a bug in MSIE, see CVE-2006-5152. Not a bug in IE only, I have a demo that exploits it under Firefox. (In fact my demo does not seem to work for IE, yet...) If you can exploit that with Firefox, Firefox should be fixed. Can you give more details? I would be very interested. Not really related to CVE-2006-5152. In fact that is a non-issue: the CVE references my posts, but fails to reference my retraction http://lists.grok.org.uk/pipermail/full-disclosure/2006-October/049 828.html Any broswer that interprets ascii as utf7 without being told to do so is severely buggy. And CVE-2006-5152 is about MSIE, not about Apache. Your retraction was about Apache. ... no plan to backport ... it is of low impact. I do not think that XSS and cookie theft (thus access to all data protected by web login) is of low impact. If it affects only one buggy browser, it's low impact. And since the patch for the workaround is not that small (and is changing default behaviour and is adding a new config directive), I didn't want to backport it to stable. If it affects more browsers, I might reconsider. ... setting AddDefaultCharset also protects from the issue. AddDefaultCharset is on in the default configurations ... Thanks for that other workaround: yes it seems to protect my machines. Now I am puzzled why AddDefaultCharset was commented out in my configs. Still puzzled why Apache did not mention these workarounds. AddDefaultCharset has some often unwanted side effects. It overrides the charset in meta http-equiv tags. See http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=397886 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=415775 It is not the default anymore in lenny and sid. Bug#453048: (no subject)
This is even more important because if you loop it enough times, the strncat ends up overflowing the paperswitch static allocated space and it ends up crashing, my suggestion would be to init paperswith to empty and also check if strlen is 0 on the if, and then doing the strncat of both the switch and the paper name. Bug#451767: reason why libicu36 depends on lib32icu36
(This is just a note for the bug report; not explicitly copying submitters.) Okay, I've figured out the exact mechanics of why this bug is happening. Both lib32icu36 and libicu36 have shlibs files, and both packages contain multiple shared libraries, some of which reference other ones. This causes dh_shlibdeps for each package to make a reference back to first package whose shlibs file satisfies the requirement. Both lib32icu36 and libicu36 decide that the needed libraries are contained in lib32icu36. For lib32icu36, dh_shlibdeps (or dpkg-shlibdeps) filters out the reference to itself, but this obviously doesn't work for libicu36 since lib32icu36 is not libicu36. Doing things in the normal way will always make one of these packages depend on the other. My solution is going to be to just filter the substvars files between dh_shlibdeps and dh_gencontrol. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. Bug#450725: rkhunter: Spurious message: gpg: WARNING: unsafe ownership on configuration file `/home/user/.gnupg/gpg.conf'
The cron job produces this every day, but the file in question has permissions 0600. It seems this happens because rkhunter runs gpg as a user (presumably root) other than the owner of gpg.conf. This warning isn't issued by rkhunter but by GnuPG itself. This is linked to the *ownership* (and not permissions) of gpg.conf. I would guess your file is owned by another user as yours (which is a potential security risk), either resulting from moving this file from another user or running gpg with sudo. sorry, i meant to say that the gpg file is owned by the correct user (user:user) rather than saying it has mode 600, which is clearly not relevent here :) I get this warning when using 'sudo gpg --version', as gpg still considers its home to be /home/user/.gnupg/ (try 'sudo echo $HOME' to understand why). aha, thanks, i undersatnd now: I am using anacron, and restartiog it via hibernate, which was called with 'sudo hibernate', this means all the anacron jobs inherit HOME=/home/user instead of /root which causes the problem. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#453827: mutt: Deletion of attachments from signed messages is unsupported
Package: mutt Priority: minor Tags: upstream Hi, mutt says: | Deletion of attachments from encrypted messages is unsupported. but it is only a signed message, not a encrypted one. Please support deleting attachments from signed messages or at least fix this error-message. Of course you would lose the signature, but mutt users should know what they do (at least after Are you really sure, this will ...[yN]?). Trying to delete the signature leads to the same error message. My mutt version is 1.5.16-2~heyc1, which is a, propably rather outdated, backport from experimental, including the glorious chdir-patch. Bug#452994: Unable to enable the Debian menu in the GNOME panel
I'm unable to enable the Debian menu: I right-click the Program menu. I choose Edit Menus. I go through all menus listed in the left pane of the UI and verify that everything I can check is checked. Everything is checked. There is no mention of any Debian menu. How do I enable the Debian menu? I have gnome-menus 2.20.1-1 and gnome-panel 2.18.3-2 installed. Bug#453833: GeoIP.dat doesn't get updated very often
Package: libgeoip1 Version: 1.3.17-1.1 Hi, I've seen that the /usr/share/GeoIP/GeoIP.dat file belongs to the libgeoip1 package and thus gets rarely updated. I would suggest splitting this package into libgeoip1 and libgeoip1-data (or similar, architecture-independent package) and updating the -data package each month or so.
