Bug#447260: live-helper: resolv.conf should be removed from cache/stages_bootstrap/etc
Hi, assume we build chrooted, then the 'real' chroot (the one which ends up in the live system) is already copied to chroot/chroot. the 'unreal' chroot (the one which contains the build-tools such as squashfs-tools) needs network access to install the build-tools. that means, that the 'taining' of chroot/etc/resolv.conf is legimit and will not end up in the live system. assume we build non-chrooted, then the chroot is not touched at all, and the live-system is build with the host tools. that means, that the chroot/etc/resolv.conf is not touched because it is not needed to be touched, and this is what ends up in the live system. Assumed that people always build 'in order' (by calling lh_bootstrap, lh_chroot and lh_binary; and not individual helpers directly), then, there is as far as I can see still no possibility that resolv.conf is tainted in any way. Do you see any? Hi, Sorry, but this bug isn't fixed. I've been unable to test the fix earlier. Sorry for the long delay. Testing with a current unstable system (which means that parts of the xserver have been updated since the original report) returns the following error on my amd64 setup with the radeon Xorg driver, trying to save a PNG: $ gcrystal /usr/share/doc/gcrystal/examples/nickel.gcrystal The program 'gcrystal' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter)'. (Details: serial 13551 error_code 9 request_code 145 minor_code 7) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) This paragraph is here to explain that one can usually rely on _ but not when the follow or follow_fast option is used. That's exactly the opposite of what the paragraph says. It says that this guarantee no longer holds if follow or follow_fast are *not* set (my emphasis). Hence, presumably this guarantee (that one can rely on _) *does* hold if follow or follow_fast *is* set. Indeed, it means that one can rely on _ *only* when using follow or follow_fast. Right sorry, I overlooked a not. Still, that bit of duplicated information doesn't hurt, in particular when it explains that the remark also applies to follow_fast (which is a separate option, so one can't remove this sentence without loosing some useful information). I beg to differ. First, you managed to misread it, and I'm sure others will. Secondly, there is no information loss, as the paragraph is introduced with these words: If either follow or follow_fast is in effect: To me it therefore seems both redundant and confusing. -- http://rrt.sc3d.org/ L'art des vers est de transformer en beautés les faiblesses (Aragon) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#460634: Use of qtengine theme breaks flash-plugin v. 9.0 r115 in konqueror : some tests
Hi! thanks for the patch, i made some tests. -Debian sid: I applied the patch to gtk-qt-engine making flash works, but with no theme in gtk right-clicking the flash video results in no highlighted menu that's very not user friendly However flash works even with default gtk theme that's more usable: simply start konq with `export GTK2_RC_FILES=;konqueror` I think it's better the second solution probably making it possible to launch 'nspluginviewer' with GTK2_RC_FILES= (hardcoded ?) -Debian etch: I backported kde-3.5.8 from sid to etch and patched the stable version of gtk-qt-engine. Same results as above but sometimes flash fail to start (gray box displayed) or nspluginviewer crash!: how can i debug this? probably this is due to etch version of gtk. regards. It will be easier if we also include resolved security issues in the count (otherwise, it's hard to express the state in a single number). Well, to PTS end it is enough to have a file containing the needed information to decide whether or not the link should be put. If to you it's easy to generate a list of vulnerabilities affecting the various packages, with information whether they are resolved or not that's fine for the PTS. In addition, given that you are asking for adding the link, you're probably the most titled guys to know which kind of information are needed to decide whether or not to add the link :-) The PTS usually only provides some link when there's something intesresting to watch behind the link. The drawback is that the link only appears after the next PTS update. (We could AJAX to create the link. 8-P) Patches welcome :-P but anyhow that is totally unrelated with the point above, even with AJAX you would need to decide whether or not to add the link. You can only gain that you can do a query on a per-package resource to check whether it should be added (besides of course being more up to date, but that was not the topic of discussion here). Bug#460925: perl-doc: Lack of clarity in File::Find(3)
On Wed, 16 Jan 2008, Reuben Thomas wrote: I don't think so. This paragraph is here to explain that one can usually rely on _ but not when the follow or follow_fast option is used. Bug#461046: uw-imapd: SSL/TLS certificate detection broken with ipv6
Package: uw-imapd Version: 7:2006j2.dfsg-3 Severity: important With uw-imapd, when you connect for ssl or tls, it first checks for a certificate based on the ip address connected to, then falls back to a default certificate. For an ipv4 connection to 192.168.1.5, it checks for: /etc/ssl/certs/imapd-192.168.1.5.pem /etc/ssl/certs/imapd.pem picking the first one that it finds. For ipv6 with 2006f.dfsg-1, it correctly checked for a certificate based on the ipv6 address connected to, then fell back to the default one. Bug#461047: qa.debian.org: For saving a few pixels…
Package: qa.debian.org Severity: wishlist Greetings, PTS maintainers, Using a laptop with a small screen, I was trying to think how to save a few pixels so that more information fit into it: - The [DM] tag could be placed on the same line as the PTS and Pool links: when there are many packages, often one has a longer name than the '[PTS] Pool' characer chain, and adding [DM] to the name makes the Source Name column broader. - The popcon score could be a link itself, instead of having a More link, which is broader than numbers of three digits (I do not have the honor of maintaining packages for more than a thousand persons). This saves maybe a dozen of pixels or two, but sometimes it would make the difference wether I see the color of the watch version numbers or not. I am just telling you, so you may do a better job next time - even without the tedious task of reading docs ;-) . Also, it seems that your patch is done against plain ypstream yaird without the many other patches already applied to the package in Debian, and duplicating some of them. Patch has been done against Debian version of yaird, downloaded with apt-get source yaird. So I think I have fresh sources. Yes. This is a bit tricky: Some Debian packages apply patches as part of unpacking the source package, but the preferred method - which is used with yaird - is to store them as patches below debian/ and apply them as part of the build process. The following would give you the source with Debian patches applied (but true, there was no way to easily guess that): fakeroot debian/rules apply-patches I think it is very easy to separate: - yaird-0.0.12/perl/Plan.pm part of diff is the first patch for newly created bug http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=460818 (ignore non-root encrypted device with keyfile) - rest is the second patch for http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=443821 Well, it seems that the part of your patch that fixed bug#443821 for you was that you changed the error to a warning. The patch also changes IdeDev and InputTab parsing which seems unrelated, and at least the InputTab part was done already in another Debian patch. Again, I tell you this to help you get a better understanding - as you may have noticed the bug is now fixed, using a different approach than the one you came up with. Oh, and another small note: There's a shorter way to write the URL for bugreports: http://bugs.debian.org/443821 (and to get all bugs for the package: http://bugs.debian.org/yaird ). Bug#461056: dhclient-scripts break resolv.conf if multiple domain-search is given
Package: dhcp3-client Version: 3.1.0-1 If domain-search contains multiple options separated by spaces, the resulting resolv.conf has the ending domains separated by \032 instead of spaces. The problem is in /sbin/dhclient-script, in make_resolv_conf(): echo search ${new_domain_search/\\032/ } $new_resolv_conf only replace the first \032 occurrence. If you replace it with: echo search ${new_domain_search//\\032/ } $new_resolv_conf (note the double /) it'll replace all occurrences, and the resulting resolv.conf will work. Bug#457196: vlan interface created with _rename suffix
Hello, On Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 10:21:15AM +0100, Lo??c Minier wrote: Thanks for your report and detailed information, and sorry for not getting back to you earlier; from your data above, it seems like it is either an udev or a kernel bug. I'm tentatively reassigning this to udev seeing that with the latest udev you always get the bug, and with older ones only with some recent kernels (which is more logical). I've been looking around a bit and I came up with the following: http://www.wlug.org.nz/UDev and http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/7316 To be clear: I do not use udev on any of my servers, so I cannot test it myself. But from the config from lionel I guess people are making the mistake into thinking that mac-addressess are unique, but they are not. The only correct method which will probably support *all* variants of pci cards that have the same mac-address (like the sparc), or none at all (there are a lot of cards that came without a valid mac-address, or where it simply isn't possible to look it up, like the lp486e): The match should be (in most cases): BUS=pci, ID=00:0b.0 ... and none of that mac addresses, please :-). In other busses than pci there probably is another valid item, or it is not needed at al. I assume it wil also fix vlan being incorrectly renamed. I am trying to run eclipse downloaded from the project site. There is only download for Linux with no possibility of choice between 32- and 64-bit version. - if you insist on running a non-Debian 32-bits eclipse under amd64, you'll probably need ia32-libs-gtk which contains a set of 32-bits library copied from i386 but installable under amd64 systems; this should solve the link errors It is the best solution. I can run downloaded/local Eclipse (v. 3.3) on java jdk/jre downloaded from the Sun web site. I am not sure of the influence of the JRE you're using, as Josselin pointed out, it's best to use Debian's (which is is sun-java5-jre). Debian's java is a little bit old. The newer version (sun-java6-jre/jdk) is available only as an unstable package. In all cases, this is more a support request than a bug against libgtk; let us know what of the above steps fix your problem. The only bug I see in libgtk is that we could provide a 32-bits libgtk under amd64; I prefer not implementing bi-arch since we have support for ia32-libs-gtk in place already and multiarch should make bi-arch obsolete.
