It is indeed working now, and gpsdrive correctly displays my altitude as
a result.

Thanks very much,

Can you provide a (regularly updated) file which list sources packages for
which there are open issues? Maybe with a count of open issues and a list
of CVE?

source count CVE-XXX ...

The PTS usually only provides some link when there's something
intesresting to watch behind the link.

Bug#447260: live-helper: resolv.conf should be removed from cache/stages_bootstrap/etc

2008-01-16 Thread Daniel Baumann
Hi,

assume we build chrooted, then the 'real' chroot (the one which ends up
in the live system) is already copied to chroot/chroot. the 'unreal'
chroot (the one which contains the build-tools such as squashfs-tools)
needs network access to install the build-tools.

that means, that the 'taining' of chroot/etc/resolv.conf is legimit and
will not end up in the live system.

assume we build non-chrooted, then the chroot is not touched at all, and
the live-system is build with the host tools.

that means, that the chroot/etc/resolv.conf is not touched because it is
not needed to be touched, and this is what ends up in the live system.

Assumed that people always build 'in order' (by calling lh_bootstrap,
lh_chroot and lh_binary; and not individual helpers directly), then,
there is as far as I can see still no possibility that resolv.conf is
tainted in any way. Do you see any?

Regards,
Daniel

Hello Jose,
I did this test:
# export LC_ALL=it_IT

and this is an excerpt from the trace file:

open(/usr/share/locale/locale.alias, O_RDONLY) = 3

mmap(NULL, 4096, PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE, MAP_PRIVATE|MAP_ANONYMOUS, -1, 0)
= 0x2b0e600fc000

read(3, # Locale name alias data base.\n#..., 4096) = 2586
read(3, , 4096) = 0
close(3)= 0
munmap(0x2b0e600fc000, 4096)= 0
open(/usr/share/locale/en_IT/LC_MESSAGES/awffull.mo, O_RDONLY) = -1

ENOENT (No such file or directory)
open(/usr/share/locale/en_GB/LC_MESSAGES/awffull.mo, O_RDONLY) = -1

So awffull is trying to open the file
/usr/share/locale/en_IT/LC_MESSAGES/awffull.mo while I suppose it should
be instead /usr/share/locale/it/LC_MESSAGES/awffull.mo .

Wouldn't it be possible to patch chkrootkit not to ignore certain

Bug#453908: libxine1: Please recommend plugin libraries rather than depending on them

2008-01-16 Thread Reinhard Tartler
Adam C. Emerson [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

Well, specifically I want to remove libxine1-console. But libxine1
depends on both libxine1-console and libxine1-x specifically, rather
 than as alternates.

This was indeed the idea. However, this would lead to breakage wrt
partial upgrades: Consider libxine1 being upgraded to lenny, but keeping
the packages from etch. This will lead in a loss of some plugins and
keeping the user in the dark what caused the visible regression.

We will drop these dependencies when lenny is released. Until then,
hopefully all packages correctly depend on the plugin packages they need.

I can confirm that in my case the crash is due to an OpenGL call, usually

Err, does this happen with all your DVDs? I don't see the relation of
DVDs (which are mpeg encoded) and wavpack (which is a container format
that has nothing to do with DVDs AFAIK).

Bug#461000: packages.qa.debian.org: Status report bug list only links to one bug

2008-01-16 Thread Raphael Hertzog
On Wed, 16 Jan 2008, Kapil Hari Paranjape wrote:
 Package: qa.debian.org

 Hello,

The entry Testing status refers to the list of bugs that are
holding back a package. This entry is a hyperlink but links to only
one of the bugs even when there is more than one bug that is
 holding back the package.

Indeed: http://packages.qa.debian.org/c/cron.html

Anyone who want to look at the issue can check www/bin/excuses_to_xml.py.
The XML conversion has not been designed to handle mutiple URL per lines.
Maybe it should just copy over raw HTML in that particular case. (It's
just parsing update_excuses.html.gz)

Cheers,

Bug#452939: still not fixed

2008-01-16 Thread di dit
Hi,

Sorry, but this bug isn't fixed.
I've been unable to test the fix earlier. Sorry for the long delay.

Testing with a current unstable system (which means that parts of the
xserver have been updated since the original report) returns the
following error on my amd64 setup with the radeon Xorg driver, trying
to save a PNG:

$ gcrystal /usr/share/doc/gcrystal/examples/nickel.gcrystal
The program 'gcrystal' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter)'.
  (Details: serial 13551 error_code 9 request_code 145 minor_code 7)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

I'll send another email later regarding my other i386/unstable machine.

Regards,

didit.

Bug#460985: tex4ht: htlatex can't cope with shell metacharacters in the file name (first arg)

2008-01-16 Thread Reuben Thomas

On Wed, 16 Jan 2008, Kapil Hari Paranjape wrote:

I do not understand the precise difficulty. Could you give an
example?

htlatex an example.tex

This does not work.

1. The expansion of shell meta-characters should be done by the shell.

That's exactly the problem: it is. Hence, it thinks that an example.tex is
two arguments, an and example.tex. Similar problems would occur with
files called london paris.tex, or a 'funny' example.tex.

2. htlatex works on only one document at a time so you cannot give
multiple file names to the command.

There's no problem with this.

That's exactly the opposite of what the paragraph says. It says that this
guarantee no longer holds if follow or follow_fast are *not* set (my
emphasis). Hence, presumably this guarantee (that one can rely on _) *does*
hold if follow or follow_fast *is* set. Indeed, it means that one can rely
on _ *only* when using follow or follow_fast.

Right sorry, I overlooked a not. Still, that bit of duplicated
information doesn't hurt, in particular when it explains that the remark
also applies to follow_fast (which is a separate option, so one can't
remove this sentence without loosing some useful information).

I beg to differ. First, you managed to misread it, and I'm sure others will.
Secondly, there is no information loss, as the paragraph is introduced with
these words:

If either follow or follow_fast is in effect:

To me it therefore seems both redundant and confusing.

Yes, this should be possible. I will think a bit abot it end try to
write some code to implement this. It will be easier if we also include
resolved security issues in the count (otherwise, it's hard to express
the state in a single number).

The PTS usually only provides some link when there's something
intesresting to watch behind the link.

The drawback is that the link only appears after the next PTS update.

Bug#461035: prime: uninstallable: Depends: ruby ( 1.9)

Package: prime
Version: 1.0.0.1-1

Hi,

prime: Depends: ruby ( 1.9) but 4 is to be installed

ruby switched to a versioninig scheme which avoids confusing with the
real ruby version. Please Depends on ruby1.8 instead of depending on
ruby (1.9) (which is wrong, btw. You probably meant 1.9).

Thank you,

Bug#460634: Use of qtengine theme breaks  flash-plugin v. 9.0 r115 in konqueror : some tests

2008-01-16 Thread Andrea Iacovitti
Hi!
thanks for the patch, i made some tests.

-Debian sid:
I applied the patch to gtk-qt-engine making flash works, but with no theme in
gtk right-clicking the flash video results in no highlighted menu that's very
not user friendly
However flash works even with default gtk theme that's more usable: simply
start konq with `export GTK2_RC_FILES=;konqueror`
I think it's better the second solution probably making it possible to
launch 'nspluginviewer' with GTK2_RC_FILES= (hardcoded ?)

-Debian etch:
I backported kde-3.5.8 from sid to etch and patched the stable version of
gtk-qt-engine.
Same results as above but sometimes flash fail to start (gray box displayed)
or nspluginviewer crash!: how can i debug this? probably this is due to etch
version of gtk.

regards.
Andrea.

Bug#460983: PTS: Please link to Security Tracker

Well, to PTS end it is enough to have a file containing the needed
information to decide whether or not the link should be put. If to you
it's easy to generate a list of vulnerabilities affecting the various
packages, with information whether they are resolved or not that's fine
for the PTS. In addition, given that you are asking for adding the
link, you're probably the most titled guys to know which kind of
information are needed to decide whether or not to add the link :-)

The PTS usually only provides some link when there's something
intesresting to watch behind the link.
The drawback is that the link only appears after the next PTS update.
(We could AJAX to create the link. 8-P)

Patches welcome :-P but anyhow that is totally unrelated with the point
above, even with AJAX you would need to decide whether or not to add the
link. You can only gain that you can do a query on a per-package
resource to check whether it should be added (besides of course being
more up to date, but that was not the topic of discussion here).

Cheers.

Bug#461019: pointer hidden during typing is not quite (hidden)

2008-01-16 Thread Paul Collins
Package: xterm
Version: 231-1

The cursor xterm uses for the hidden mouse pointer has a non-empty mask,
so when I start typing, the I-bar is replaced with a black dot, which I
find quite distracting. With this patch, the pointer's cursor has a
blank image and mask and so when it is used nothing is visible.

That's exactly the opposite of what the paragraph says. It says that this

hold if follow or follow_fast *is* set.

Bug#461046: uw-imapd: SSL/TLS certificate detection broken with ipv6

2008-01-16 Thread Nick Burch
Package: uw-imapd
Version: 7:2006j2.dfsg-3
Severity: important

With uw-imapd, when you connect for ssl or tls, it first checks for a
certificate based on the ip address connected to, then falls back to a
default certificate.

For an ipv4 connection to 192.168.1.5, it checks for:
/etc/ssl/certs/imapd-192.168.1.5.pem
/etc/ssl/certs/imapd.pem
picking the first one that it finds.

For ipv6 with 2006f.dfsg-1, it correctly checked for a certificate based
on the ipv6 address connected to, then fell back to the default one. So,
for a connection to 2001:8b0:c5:1::21, it checked:
/etc/ssl/certs/imapd-2001:8b0:c5:1::21.pem
/etc/ssl/certs/imapd.pem

With 2006j2.dfsg-3, this has been broken. For ipv4 connections, things
work as before. For an ipv6 connection to 2001:8b0:c5:1::21, it checks:
/etc/ssl/certs/imapd-NON-IPv4.pem
/etc/ssl/certs/imapd.pem

So multi-homing with ssl/tls continues to work fine for ipv4, but is
broken for ipv6, as the wrong certificates are handed out

Bug#461047: qa.debian.org: For saving a few pixels…

2008-01-16 Thread Charles Plessy
Package: qa.debian.org
Severity: wishlist

Greetings, PTS maintainers,

Using a laptop with a small screen, I was trying to think how to save a
few pixels so that more information fit into it:

 - The [DM] tag could be placed on the same line as the PTS and Pool
links: when there are many packages, often one has a longer name than
the '[PTS] Pool' characer chain, and adding [DM] to the name makes
   the Source Name column broader.

 - The popcon score could be a link itself, instead of having a More
link, which is broader than numbers of three digits (I do not have
the honor of maintaining packages for more than a thousand persons).

This saves maybe a dozen of pixels or two, but sometimes it would make
the difference wether I see the color of the watch version numbers or
not.

Have a nice day,

Bug#461048: smbfs: This utility only unmounts cifs filesystems

2008-01-16 Thread Paolo
Package: smbfs
Version: 3.0.24-6etch9
Severity: important

Seems last upgrade broke umount.cifs:

% # mount -t cifs
//linux/share on /home/user/share type cifs (rw,mand)

% # umount /home/user/share (or umount.cifs /home/user/share)
This utility only unmounts cifs filesystems

and the volume isn't unmounted.
And it's stale, so I'd need to umount+mount but seems my only option is
to reboot (can't do now, remote multi user system).

system is apt-updated Etch, except kernel which is
2.6.22.14-toi3.0rc3-dm-sa-k7.3

Not sure it's last codefix though: I tried 3.0.28 from a Slackware system
with same result. What's up then with {smb, cifs}fs?

thanks

4GB file and the program ends with:

strerror: No error

Therefore, I suppose the bug can be closed.

Bug#448471: Wrong rendering of multiline form input

I retried it with evince 2.20.2-1 and poppler 0.6.2-1 (both are in

I have been using the multiline form examples from this document, and it

With this PDF it works fine.

If this happens with a specific file, it would be great if you could
provide a link or attach it to the bug.

I can't do that since the University does not allow me to publish this

If you do

dd if=somebigfile | dd count=100 of=/dev/null

both dd's should report that they copied 100 records. This worked in
debian sarge. Debian Etch, the first dd stopped reporting the number
of records copied. The script I wrote then stopped working.
(The above is an example, my script of course used something else
than dd count=100 to limit the size copied.)

Bug#427958: fontconfig-config depends on msttcorefonts

2008-01-16 Thread Josselin Mouette
Hi,

I don’t understand the purpose of this bug report. The msttcorefont
dependency is proposed as an alternative, and the default installed font
package is ttf-dejavu.

Nothing in the policy prevents such things, and the Java runtime
dependencies are the best example of such things.

The only bug here is that you *can* end up with a circular dependency if
the user has installed non-free packages.

yes. This change doesn't harm: in C, char is a byte and in POSIX,
char is 8 bit. So I take a smaller NMU. But reading the code it
seems ok to do this conversion.

I've some other minor stylistic C correction, i.e. 0x;
is wrong, it should have a u postfix. (and ul if we care
about real C, but anyway POSIX int is 32-bit or more.),
but for this I think I (or you) should contact upstream author.

Bug#460814: [Yaird-devel] Bug#460814: yaird: PATCH: get yaird working on 2.6.23 (BUG #443821)

2008-01-16 Thread Jonas Smedegaard

I'm sorry I have created new bugreport. I don't exactly know debian
bugtracking interface (it was my first attempt to submit bug with this
interface). Maybe I should read more documentation ... :-)

That's ok with me. I am just telling you, so you may do a better job
next time - even without the tedious task of reading docs ;-) .

Also, it seems that your patch is done against plain ypstream yaird
without the many other patches already applied to the package in
Debian, and duplicating some of them.

Patch has been done against Debian version of yaird, downloaded with
apt-get source yaird. So I think I have fresh sources.

Yes. This is a bit tricky: Some Debian packages apply patches as part of
unpacking the source package, but the preferred method - which is used
with yaird - is to store them as patches below debian/ and apply them as
part of the build process.

The following would give you the source with Debian patches applied (but
true, there was no way to easily guess that):

   fakeroot debian/rules apply-patches

I think it is very easy to separate:

- yaird-0.0.12/perl/Plan.pm part of diff is the first patch for newly
  created bug http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=460818
(ignore non-root encrypted device with keyfile)

- rest is the second patch for
  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=443821

Well, it seems that the part of your patch that fixed bug#443821 for
you was that you changed the error to a warning. The patch also changes
IdeDev and InputTab parsing which seems unrelated, and at least the
InputTab part was done already in another Debian patch.

Again, I tell you this to help you get a better understanding - as you
may have noticed the bug is now fixed, using a different approach than
the one you came up with.

Oh, and another small note: There's a shorter way to write the URL for
bugreports: http://bugs.debian.org/443821 (and to get all bugs for the
package: http://bugs.debian.org/yaird ).

Thanks for your help with this!

Bug#461054: dnsmasq: bogus-priv option could exempt forwarding to private nameservers

2008-01-16 Thread Tim Retout
Package: dnsmasq
Version: 2.35-1
Severity: wishlist

We have nameservers handling separate private subnets, and 'server'
lines in dnsmasq.conf to forward requests to them, like:

server=/2.168.192.in-addr.arpa/192.168.2.1
server=/company.lan/192.168.2.1

However, to get reverse lookups working for this private subnet, I have
to turn off the 'bogus-priv' option. I expect this means that reverse
lookups for other private ranges could get forwarded to external DNS
servers.

It might be better if the bogus-priv option took account of any 'server'
in-addr.arpa lines for private subnets, and allowed forwarding in these
cases.

There was a similar request on the dnsmasq-discuss mailing list in 2005:

echo search ${new_domain_search//\\032/ } $new_resolv_conf

(note the double /)

it'll replace all occurrences, and the resulting resolv.conf will work.

Bug#436642: codeville has unmet recommends on some archs

2008-01-16 Thread Adeodato Simó
* Robert Lemmen [Wed, 08 Aug 2007 12:21:39 +0200]:

the easiest way would be to change the
 recommends into a Recommends: python-psyco [i386].

I don't *think* that syntax works at all (only in Build-Depends). But
even if I'm mistaked on that, codeville is an arch:all package, which
would make it impossible for it to work as intended.

Robert, do apt or aptitude complain badly if you try to install
codeville in !i386, with the Install-Recommends option on?

Bug#457196: vlan interface created with _rename suffix

getting back to you earlier; from your data above, it seems like it is

older ones only with some recent kernels (which is more logical).

I've been looking around a bit and I came up with the following:
http://www.wlug.org.nz/UDev
and
http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/7316
To be clear: I do not use udev on any of my servers, so I cannot
test it myself.
But from the config from lionel I guess people are making the
mistake into thinking that mac-addressess are unique, but they
are not.
The only correct method which will probably support *all*
variants of pci cards that have the same mac-address (like the
sparc), or none at all (there are a lot of cards that came
without a valid mac-address, or where it simply isn't possible to
look it up, like the lp486e):
The match should be (in most cases):
BUS=pci, ID=00:0b.0 ... and none of that mac addresses,
please :-).

In other busses than pci there probably is another valid item, or
it is not needed at al.

I assume it wil also fix vlan being incorrectly renamed.

Ard

Hi!

It is forseable that lenny will have volatile and backports too... Some
of those will be probably worked on under lenny itself, so I was
wondering: why not adding support for those target under the debian
changelog syntax file before lenny is released? Here is a patch that
does it! Thanks!

 It looks like:
 - you're running on amd64 on an amd64 install and kernel

I have Intel Pentium 4 CPU and amd64 version of Debian

 - you're not running the packaged eclipse program but a local one;
perhaps you should use the packaged eclipse for amd64?

I have installed packaged eclipse for amd64. It is working (on
sun-java5-jre/jdk) but it is an older version 3.2. Current version of
Eclipse (3.3) significantly enhances the previous one.

 - you seem to be trying to run a local eclipse download for 32-bits
instead of a 64-bits one; perhaps you can download a 64-bits one?

I am trying to run eclipse downloaded from the project site. There is
only download for Linux with no possibility of choice between 32- and
64-bit version.

 - if you insist on running a non-Debian 32-bits eclipse under amd64,
you'll probably need ia32-libs-gtk which contains a set of 32-bits
library copied from i386 but installable under amd64 systems; this
   should solve the link errors

It is the best solution. I can run downloaded/local Eclipse (v. 3.3) on
java jdk/jre downloaded from the Sun web site.

I am not sure of the influence of the JRE you're using, as Josselin
pointed out, it's best to use Debian's (which is is sun-java5-jre).

Debian's java is a little bit old. The newer version (sun-java6-jre/jdk)
is available only as an unstable package.

 In all cases, this is more a support request than a bug against libgtk;
let us know what of the above steps fix your problem. The only bug I
see in libgtk is that we could provide a 32-bits libgtk under amd64; I
prefer not implementing bi-arch since we have support for ia32-libs-gtk
in place already and multiarch should make bi-arch obsolete.

Thank you very much for your help. Installation of 'ia32-libs-gtk'
solved the problem.

Andrzej Buchowicz

Bug#461062: iso-codes: Old/incorrect documentation

2008-01-16 Thread Christoph Burgmer
Package: iso-codes
Version: 1.8-1
Severity: minor

First of all you have a typo in usr/share/doc/iso-codes/README.gz:
The official IS0-639 maintenance agency should obviously spell ISO-639.

Then for ISO-639-3 you still call it a draft, though it is officially out
since summer last year.

I suggest you update the whole ISO 639 part as now two (well three)
authorities are active in ISO 639 development.

Further more the changelog states:
- Dec 17th 2007: added 'Pashto' as alternative for ps
but the relevant file usr/share/xml/iso-codes/iso_639.xml
still states:
Status: ISO 639-2:1998 + additions and changes until 2007-08-08

Bug marked as minor as all of that is just missing consistency in the
documentation.

Bug#461061: xinetd.conf should not require spaces around = operator

2008-01-16 Thread Olivier Berger
Package: xinetd
Version: 1:2.3.14-5
Severity: normal

Having something like :
defaults
{

bind = 157.159.110.88

}
works whereas :
defaults
{

bind=157.159.110.88

}
won't, in /etc/xinetd.conf

That's a bit stupid as it gets reposted in /var/log/syslog, but xinetd starts
anyway.

So either it's a mistake, and IMHO xinetd shouldn't start with a buggy conf
file, or otherwise, a less strict syntax is supported, which leads to easier
configuration...

Hope this helps,

Best regards.

Bug#461065: make --debug-all print IP of keyserver instead of hostname

2008-01-16 Thread martin f krafft
Package: gnupg
Version: 1.4.6-2
Severity: wishlist

For debugging purposes, it would make sense to have gnupg log the IP
instead of the hostname it uses as keyserver in the following line:

gpg: requesting key A63B16A8 from hkp server subkeys.pgp.net

Thanks,

It just occurred to me: how is running under gnome determined? As I said, I
 do get
  *** Gnome Registry Session: no.

OK fine ... then the browser configured in /etc/icedove/icedove.js
should be used. what entry do you have there? The default is
x-www-browser.

what do you get for:

 update-alternatives --config x-www-browser

and

 update-alternatives --config gnome-www-browser

... and which browser is actually used?

Please ping me in case you need the NMU.
Kind regards
