Bug#471588: aptitude: Please support a scroll margin around the cursor
Package: aptitude Version: 0.4.10-1+b2 Severity: wishlist Currently, aptitude only scrolls if moving down from the last line on the screen or up from the first line on the screen. I'd like to see a minimum scroll margin around the cursor, so I can see the subsequent packages when scrolling down without having to scroll past where I want the cursor and then scroll back. Among other things, this makes it easier and faster to perform the same action on a number of packages by scanning ahead visually. This would work by having the screen scroll if moving down with fewer than $MARGIN lines below the cursor, or moving up with fewer than $MARGIN lines above the cursor. Please also consider having a default scroll margin other than zero. I would suggest at least 4, preferably more. Bug#471590: please register tex docs with doc-base
Package: texlive-doc-en Version: 2007-3 Severity: wishlist Hi, there are a vast range of TeX documention provided by texlive-doc-en and related packages. It would be handy if some (if not all systematically) could be registered with Debian's doc-base (not texlive-doc-base!) so that it's easier to get at the docs using tools like dhelp. Registering /usr/share/doc/texlive-doc-en/english/catalogue/index.html, for example, would be a good start since it would provide access to docs for all the TeX packages available. More comprehensively, it would be good to create and register a top level index page (e.g. /usr/share/doc/texlive-doc-en/english/index.html) which contains links to all the other index.html pages provided by texlive-doc-en. Bug#471589: confusing sentence about pride in security support termination announcements
Package: debian-www Severity: minor This report is about the same sentence as the one discussed in #468765. I'm starting a new report because #468765 was closed (apparently by error) and to show the summary below prominently (the first report got long). I also propose an alternative solution. --- Summary According to http://www.us.debian.org/News/2008/20080229 One year after the release of Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 alias 'etch' and nearly three years after the release of Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 alias 'sarge' the security support for the old distribution (3.1 alias 'sarge') is coming to an end next month. The Debian project is proud to be able to support its old distribution for such a long time and even for one year after a new version has been released. The last sentence is confusing or doubtful. --- Discussions Frank Lichtenheld requested to discuss the topic on a mailing list. I started by asking the security team whether it was proud of the duration of oldstable's security support in http://lists.debian.org/debian-security/2008/03/msg9.html There was no answer from the security team, however Joerg Jaspert in http://lists.debian.org/debian-security/2008/03/msg00039.html and Don Armstrong in http://lists.debian.org/debian-www/2008/03/msg00096.html each indicated more or less clearly that they were proud of it. MJ Ray stated in http://lists.debian.org/debian-www/2008/03/msg00101.html that he was not proud of it. --- So it's not clear how proud the project is, but I am not willing to ask debian-project since just the discussion on debian-security was awfully noisy and time-consuming. As I wrote at the beginning, I consider that being useless to users is a good enough reason to remove the sentence. Since the discussions suggest that it is also wrong/inaccurate, I still recommend to remove it. However, the discussions also showed that several people like the sentence, so I'm not sure it will go. Therefore, I now ask to either remove the sentence or clarify/fix it. It's hard to make sense of the sentence, but after looking at it for a minute, the most likely meaning IMO is (splitting the sentence in two): The Debian project is proud to be able to support its stable distribution. The Debian project is also proud of being able to support oldstable for one year after a new version has been released. If this isn't the real meaning, please clarify. If it is, please fix it (at least removing the first sentence of my rewrite). The rewrite removes the for such a long time. MJ Ray suggested another phrasing which also removes it: The Debian project is proud of its security team volunteers' support of 3.1 for a year after the release of the next version. This assumes that the pride expressed comes from the volunteer nature of security support. I agree that this is a likely meaning, considering various interventions in #468765 and the debian-security thread. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. For example the call to set the VERSION variable (set -x; set-v output): xsltproc --nonet --novalid --param Element /package/release/version ${PREFIX}/share/dh-make-php/xslt/common.xsl package.xml ++ xsltproc --nonet --novalid --param Element /package/release/version /usr/share/dh-make-php/xslt/common.xsl package.xml + VERSION= Could this be because the package.xml layout has changed? I'm no expert with xml parsing. That could be and newer versions of dh-make-pecl are much more robust when reading the package.xml file. Actually, they don't use xsltproc anymore but a php script which used the pear class for reading package.xml files. That class should handle all possible flavours. I have a suggestion for the dh-make-pecl script; could it not check for unset or blank variables before charging on and making a mess in the working directory, with directories named 'php--' and so on? I've attached a patch that does what I would like to see, perhaps it needs expanding and/or applying to dh-make-pear. Perhaps it would be better to do the test in eval_package and return a failure if variables that should always have a value are blank? Though I suspect that your problem is fixed with a newer version of dh-make-pecl, it sounds like a good idea to do some more error handling. I'll see if your patch still make sense for newer verions. I'm reporting that as serious because freetennis will be uninstallable on some architectures in testing soon, and the correct solution to this depends on the answer to that question. on architectures with a native ocaml compiler, freetennis is an elf binary, so dpkg-shlibdeps fills in the Depends field. on other architectures, freetennis is a bytecode executable run by /usr/bin/ocamlrun, which dlopens the needed libraries; freetennis should thus depend on libcamlimages-ocaml, liblablgl-ocaml, liblablgtk2-ocaml and libsdl-ocaml on those architectures. another option would be to link with ocamlc -custom, which will embed ocamlrun in the binary and produce an elf executable (but then you have to be careful about dh_strip). Bug#471523: console-data: use keymap codes instead of keymap names for choices
Quoting Frans Pop ([EMAIL PROTECTED]): Additional suggested changes for the en.po file: - de-latin1-nodeadkeys: add (no dead keys) for consistency with the mac variant (mac-usb-de-latin1-nodeadkeys) - mac-us-std, mac-us-ext, mac-de2-ext, mac-fr2-ext, mac-fr3: remove Mac; from the descriptions as other Mac keyboards don't have them either ACK'ed I also suggest we replace U.S. English by American English for consistency. I'm not fond (indeed, I hate) of the US of A calling themselves America but when it comes along with English I think that using the American adjective is not that untrue and indeed very common practice. Bug#471581: git-buildpackage: clean command is run in the non-exported directory when using --git-export-dir
Version: 0.4.20 when I run git-buildpackage --git-export-dir=../build-area/ I expect git-buildpackge to export the source tree to the build-area and run the clean command in the exported directory. This is quiet on purpose since we want to make sure the working copy is clean - the export will be anyways (or once we export the index or the full wc doesn't have to be). It's still way better than having no editor. Perhaps more thought is actually needed. I really don't like the idea of asking maintainers to switch on $1. That always goes wrong. But we could ask them to pass their $1 to u-a ? debhelper postinst snippets tend to check $1 for most operation, I don't see a big problem in mandating their usage. Another solution is to define the alternatives in some debhelper configuration file (debian/package.alternatives) and let debhelper create the right postrm/postint snippet. Only 3490 and 349F are treated as success in capifax.c and the detailed descriptions of 3400 and 3480 are missing in c20msg.c . Regarding the 3400 status code some more information is given on http://help.netop.com/support/communication/isdn/capi_error_codes.htm where it says: 34xx Abort by network, low order 8 Bit contain the cause value, the MSB is used to signal an error, but is not set by all ISDN-CAPI 2.0 implementations Additionally, 3400 was the code for Normal termination from the network in CAPI 1.1 (german ISDN 1TR6) which might be the reason that it is still used. The attached patch fixes these problems. It would be nice if the default Debian package could include this fix as well as the patch from #354830 . Ch. Bug#471601: qpxtool: FTBFS related to qmake
Package: qpxtool Version: 0.6.1-3.1~local0 Severity: normal Tags: patch When trying to build a local package with the patch from #463886 applied (which works for me too btw), I had two problems. First, qmake is called, which is an alternative and points to qmake-qt4 on my system. It seems that qmake-qt3 should be called explicitely here. Second, 03-0.6.1.1.dpatch changes qpxtool-gui/Makefile.qmake. Since the build system recreates that file with qmake afterwards, the patch may not unapply cleanly (and did not in my case). The included patch fixes those two issues. Bug#471602: Missing manual pages
Package: pssh Version: 1.3.1-5 Severity: normal Cut from Policy §12.1: Each program, utility, and function should have an associated manual page included in the same package. It is suggested that all configuration files also have a manual page included as well. Manual pages for protocols and other auxiliary things are optional. If no manual page is available, this is considered as a bug and should be reported to the Debian Bug Tracking System (the maintainer of the package is allowed to write this bug report themselves, if they so desire). Do not close the bug report until a proper man page is available. Thanks, dam -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#470299: bubblemon: Unexpectly dies
Le 17.03.2008 07:06:58, Johan Walles a écrit : When you press CTRL-C, bubblemon terminates (as it should), but since it doesn't deregister itself from the Panel before terminating GNOME thinks it has crashes. After a (quite long) while I get the prompt back. So I think the above thing could work, we just need to wait for it to actually crash while being run from the terminal. It crashed, I didnt get any core file. What kind of network setup do you have? Do you usually enable / disable network interfaces during runtime? Do you plug in any PCMCIA network cards or something while your system is running? Can you do send me the output of /sbin/ifconfig? I use an ethernet link without. Hotplug devices are USB keys, scanner, ... But I get the problem without having doing anything like that. I use a nameif instruction in pre-up for the interface in /etc/network/ interfaces: pre-up nameif livebox 00:11:2F:C6:5A:38 The reason I'm asking is that the network interface detection code is what's changed between 2.0.7 and 2.0.9, so I'm wondering if the crash could be related to that somehow. Bug#471605: libfontconfig1: since upgrade digits are displayed in a mix of serif/sans
Package: libfontconfig1 Version: 2.5.0-2 Severity: normal I am not sure where to file this bug, but I had some upgrade orgy recently (after being away for 3 weeks) and now browser displays rubbish. But at the end I get a mixture of sans and serif fonts for the digits 2 and 8 are displayed correctly as sans serif font 0,1,3,4,5,6,7,9 are displayed in a serif font I attach a screen shot Thanks and all the best Norbert -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.25-rc6 (SMP w/2 CPU cores; PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=en_US.ISO-8859-15, LC_CTYPE=en_US.ISO-8859-15 (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages libfontconfig1 depends on: ii fontconfig-config 2.5.0-2 generic font configuration library ii libc6 2.7-9 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libexpat1 1.95.8-4 XML parsing C library - runtime li ii libfreetype6 2.3.5-1+b1FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-11 compression library - runtime libfontconfig1 recommends no packages. -- no debconf information attachment: screenshot.png

Package: egroupware-core Severity: serious Your package includes a copy of FCKEditor, which also is packaged as fckeditor in the archive. You need to fix your package to use the system-wide editor. Bug#471601: qpxtool: FTBFS related to qmake
Hi, First, qmake is called, which is an alternative and points to qmake-qt4 on my system. It seems that qmake-qt3 should be called explicitely here. I would replace should by could in your sentence. We build packages inside clean chroot using pbuilder or on build daemon. At this point, only on Qt version is installed. If you decide to build your local package on a non-clean environment, you'll face issue like this one. You could update the alternative (update-alternatives). Many packages in the archive call qmake without appending Qt version explicitely. Second, 03-0.6.1.1.dpatch changes qpxtool-gui/Makefile.qmake. Since the build system recreates that file with qmake afterwards, the patch may not unapply cleanly (and did not in my case). The proper fix must be to fix the qproject target in qpxtool-gui/Makefile file. my 2cts. cheers, Fathi -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Hello, LaMont Jones wrote: I suppose it's possible that fdisk could clamp heads at 255 in passing the geometry down, but the real solution is to allow more heads in the geometry ioctl. fdisk also happily accepts my larger value when I re-enter cylinder/head/track information. On the xen-dom0 I have the iscsi lun available and pass it to my Xen virtual domain. sfdisk also has problems reading out my geometry. I reports nothing. Discussion of the issue: http://lhealy.livejournal.com/9795.html Root bug in Debian (I think): http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=469058 It looks like 2.6.25 will fix this, and we might have a backport to 2.6.24 even (though it's a critical bug and the patch was posted almost 2 weeks ago and there's been no apparent action since). - Ken -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Due to a (Canon) driver needs, I had to switch lprng - cups. OOo2 automatically sees the avai printers, but forgets all the available 'printers' already configured. Also, spadmin now offers only the possibility to add either a fax or a pdf converter. This is both bad and wrong: bad) since all user's (config/setup/customization) work is wiped away!! wrong) since 'printer' is a generic output device/queue which not necessarily is available via cups (eg filters that popup gui to hylafax)! Now I've re-setup the hylafax 'printer', which is listed as a PDF filter instead of a fax (which would insist on asking for the fax# while that's the purpose of the filter/gui) or the usual generic 'printer' icon. Hope OOo is not going to try to become as too-smart as mozilla does ... This is intended behaviour and won't be changed upstream. If CUPS is there it's used (which *IS* correct, if you use CUPS you should add your printers in CUPS. It does not make sense to bypass your standard print system...) And because I havent replied to a question I cant answer you think it's temporarily?? If I dont reply, why don't you ask again, like Petter did yesterday? Also, I dont understand how keeping 1.43 out of testing helps to address this issue in a better way. Quite the opposite, if 1.43 would be in testing (which has a workaround) and 1.41 (which has the bug) in stable, you could try other approaches easily in unstable?! Can you please close this bug, so that the release team has one bug less to worry about? regards, Holger pgp5z3UHjlfVV.pgp Description: PGP signature
