Bug#484890: I've no idea
Quick summary: maybe this is two bugs, not one? Please skip to end for explanation. On Tue, 24 Jun 2008 12:01:27 +0200 Patrick Winnertz [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: retitle 484890 mc: Please change mc's search mask Two contrary fixes: 1) Easy: don't change functions, refine the interface. (draw boxes around stuff) 2) Harder: Upgrade a function, so the current interface needn't be changed. (add regex 'Filename' search) I've no idea how to fix this issue. People who are well known to mc would be confused by a layout change. Fix #1: New users have it worse; inconsistent interfaces can only be learned by slow trial error. (Consistent standard interfaces reward experience.) Longtime users have the smaller labor of learning about a small improvement. Fix #2 requires no change in layout. New users might be confused by this layout now. As I think this is no severiy normal I changed the bug to whishlist and retitled it. Do you have a good idea how to fix this? The best idea would be a patch ;-) I now think this is two bugs that got rolled into one by mistake. Rephrasing the above fixes as problems gives us these bugs: 1 (normal/minor) vague interface for Filename search. 2 (wishlist) make Filename search regex. Bug#493494: graphviz: tred removes all edges
Thanks! I think the tred program is quite useful. Strange thing is that it used to work before. I can't recall which version, I used it a lot about a year ago. Wouter Cyril Brulebois wrote: Wouter Koolen-Wijkstra [EMAIL PROTECTED] (02/08/2008): It is supposed to remove only edges implied by transitivity. With kind regards, Wouter Koolen-Wijkstra Hi, hanks for the report, I didn't even run this program before. It looks like no similar report is open on upstream's bugtracker, I'll forward your report to them in a few minutes. Bug#493548: Please default PROMPT to 0 in pxelinux.HEAD
Package: di-netboot-assistant Version: 0.36 Tags: patch Severity: wishlist Hi, Please default PROMPT to 0 in pxelinux.HEAD - it seems a little silly to me for di-netboot-assistant to construct a pretty menu and then ask the user to randomly press enter 99.9% of the time, especially as that screen is full of technical PXE debugging output, etc. The attached patch does this, as well as adds a note to the commented out sample entry indicating what they must do to use it if it was uncommented. (It seems reasonable to me that anyone using entries like that should alter PROMPT--unless they plan on holding Shift or Alt whilst booting--for the benefit of the default users who do not add entries there who get to avoid the aforementioned strange prompt.) The package also FTBFS if built twice in a row because after a build the clean target prompts for user input. I this can be fixed by removing unpatch from the dependencies of the clean target and adding debian/rules unpatch to the end of the clean target. Bug#453940: bacula - default label format does not match documentation
The documentation was not correct in that it did not take into account the fact that volumes may be deleted from the pool. In fact, what the code attempts to do is to create unique volume names without reusing old ones. I have updated the manual to say: If no variable expansion characters are found in the string, the Volume name will be formed from the {\bf format} string appended with the a unique number that increases. If you do not remove volumes from the pool, this number should be the number of volumes plus one, but this is not guaranteed. The unique number will be edited as four digits with leading zeros. For example, with a {\bf Label Format = File-}, the first volumes will be named {\bf File-0001}, {\bf File-0002}, ... This will appear in version 2.4.3 and later versions. A number of changes have been made to the algorithm in between your version and the current 2.4.2 version. Note, the unique number is not necessarily the MediaId as the MediaId pertains to all pools. Bug#475139: Inconsistencies should not cause a tape to be marked in error
Whenever Bacula marks a tape in error, it clearly prints that fact and why in the Job Report, so it is not quite accurate to say that it is impossible to distinguish between such a case and a case of a /real/ tape error.. Note, more recent versions of Bacula permit logging job reports to the database and easy access to that info using the GUI bat program. Just the same, having an additional state such as Inconsistent is a possibility. I will add it to our TODO list, but have not really decided whether or not to do it. In any case, it is a good deal of work to add a new state, including a major update of the database, so even if it is approved, don't count on it any time soon. Bug#493109: ITP: json-static -- JSON validator and converter for OCaml
Shouldn't the package name include ocaml somewhere? Doesn't ocaml have some sort of standard package/library package-naming convention? Something like this is pretty clearly language specific (many languages have json i/o libraries). Including ocaml in the package name would both be much more convenient for the user (when searching for something like a json support library, often one must wade through a lot of inapplicable packages), and safer against future name collision to include ocaml. Bug#492348: libpam-devperm: Breaks execution of at jobs
[Petter Reinholdtsen] So, I see two problems here - The pam module fail when there is no tty, and thus listing it as required in /etc/pam.d/common-session will fail with the current implementation. This is still an issue, and I suspect it need to be solved in the pam configuration, ie /etc/pam.d/current-session. It could be argued that a pam module that only work when a tty is available should not be required if you want pam to accept sessions without a tty. On the other hand, perhaps the module should accept to do nothing if no tty is available? On second thought, I believe the proper way to configure pam is to only use pam-devperm for the services providing ttys, and to _not_ list it in /etc/pam.d/current-session but in /etc/pam.d/login, /etc/pam.d/gdm, etc. Then at will not try to use the module and this work properly. Bug#493389: update-grub: uses wrong ordering algorithm (sorts 1.2.3-foo before 1.2.3.1-foo)

The change seems to be introduced in v0.97-29 since up to v0.97-28 has the same ordering. I've written change not bug since I'm not sure it is a problem. That is because `update-grub' is supposed to create a list with a descending ordering. This means that there is a char comparison and the one with a higher value should go first, for example -openvz-amd64 would go before -amd64 ('a' char vs 'o' char). Bug#493109: ITP: json-static -- JSON validator and converter for OCaml
Hi Miles ! Le Sunday 03 August 2008 11:41:50 Miles Bader, vous avez écrit : Shouldn't the package name include ocaml somewhere? Doesn't ocaml have some sort of standard package/library package-naming convention? Something like this is pretty clearly language specific (many languages have json i/o libraries). Including ocaml in the package name would both be much more convenient for the user (when searching for something like a json support library, often one must wade through a lot of inapplicable packages), and safer against future name collision to include ocaml. There is a difference between the source package name and the binary package name. The source package name is usually not seen by the end user, and I believe it's good when it is closed to the original project's name. But the binary package, the one that will be installed by the user will be called libjson-static-camlp4-dev, so I think it answers your question. Bug#493407: networking initscript no-longer brings up interfaces if /etc/network/options exists due to new upload of lsb
retitle 493407 lsb-base: bashism in init-functions + kills networking on reboot on systems where /bin/sh = /bin/bash thanks Aha, just found this bug. This is actually bad for people using bash as /bin/sh too with -e set. Your innocent looking changes to the logging system include: log_warning_msg () { -if log_use_fancy_output; then -YELLOW=`$TPUT setaf 3` -NORMAL=`$TPUT op` -/bin/echo -e ${YELLOW}*${NORMAL} $@ -else -echo $@ +if [ -n ${1:-} ]; then +log_begin_msg $@ fi +log_end_msg -1 } /etc/init.d/netbase is run with: #!/bin/sh -e and then does: process_options() { [ -e /etc/network/options ] || return 0 log_warning_msg /etc/network/options still exists and it will be IGNORED! R ead README.Debian of netbase. } This finds the file on my system (yes I should have removed it ages ago) and then that function returns with -1 here and the script exits without bringing up interfaces breaking unrelated software. Adding || /bin/true to the end of log_warning_msg line works around this in netbase but what else has this broken? :( Simon. -- Just another wannabie | To infinity and beyond!| Just another fool --++--- This message was brought to you by the letter R and the number 10. htag.pl 0.0.24 -- http://www.earth.li/projectpurple/progs/htag.html -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#461507: New panel-flipping behaviour
It's not just that the distance-from-edge-to-flip-panel has changed. I think the nature of the panel concept has changed too. In the old days, whenever the panel flipped from (0,0) to (0,1) you got one particular view of (0,1). Now your view of (0,1) is different depending on whereabouts you entered it. Enter from slightly lower down and you'll get a bit of what would have been (1,1) thrown in too. This really messes up detections. This is connected with the inclusion of bigscreen code, and is not related to the new maintainer's purge of options. I've been playing since 2.9.0 and there was never an option to set the exact distance from the screen edge before flipping. There was always the option to centre on the player, but you could choose only that or regular panel behaviour. Anyway, just wanted to say hi and note that I'm the one reader of RGRA who regularly watches Debian bugs. I saw this bug a while ago but didn't experience it myself until recently (was playing variants). My view is that this bug would be best solved by using the detection memory code from Oangband. Then it doesn't matter what you can or can't see on the screen, as the game warns you when you're leaving a detection zone (traps, monsters etc.). The days of offscreen death are over because a subwindow shows you all monsters your character can see including offscreen ones. Of course you can still be killed by things you can't see, but that's not related to the screen/panel issue. Regards, CC -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#493577: Wrong probability of survival in FAQ 4b
Package: mdadm Version: 2.6.7-3 Severity: minor Hi, /usr/share/doc/mdadm/FAQ.gz question 4b says: 4b. Can a 4-disk RAID10 survive two disk failures? [...] In half of the cases, yes [0], [...] 0. it's actually 1/(n-1), where n is the number of disks. I am not a mathematician, see http://aput.net/~jheiss/raid10/; I do not think any of these numbers are correct. If you have a four-disk RAID10 array, the probability of it surviving two disk failures should be 2/3. The reason is simple. Let's use the same example as in the FAQ: you have two pairs of disks, A,B and C,D. Disk A fails. There are now three disks left that can fail (three possibilities). In the case that either C or D fails, the array survives (two possibilities). That gives a survival chance of exactly 2/3. I think the number from the web page quoted is the chance of the array *failing*. Indeed, it says: The chance of system failure in a RAID 1+0 system with two drives per mirror is 1/(n - 1). -- Pelle -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#493567: linux-image-2.6.26-1-amd64: /dev/rtc* not created with 2.6.26, rtc_cmos module must be manually loaded.
Package: linux-image-2.6.26-1-amd64 Version: 2.6.26-1 Severity: normal Hi, When booting the 2.6.26 kernel from unstable on Lenny, hwclock complains during boot that it can not read the hardware clock using any known methods. When I look in /dev, the /dev/rtc* device is not there. The device was working OK with the 2.6.25 kernel. It seems CONFIG_RTC is no longer set in the 2.6.26 config? It seems is was unset to fix #476970 to allow more specific modules to load. When I loaded the rtc_cmos driver, hwclock worked OK. Should the kernel/udev not load this/the correct module automatically? Bug#442185: Debian Bug report #442185 bacula: configuration files in the Debian manner
In re-reading my response to your requests, I realize that I misunderstood. Sorry. What you are requesting is indeed possible. From the upstream point of view, the problem I have is that although, it is a very good way of organizing the conf files for larger organizations, it complicates the install/configuration for new users, and it does not correspond to the current documentation examples. I will consider adding documentation of this kind of a configuration setup in a future version and even possibly adding an alternate default configuration file that uses it (on TODO list). However until that is done, upstream, we cannot make this change. Of course, the John might consider it appropriate for the Debian package. Bug#493560: uswsusp: LFS.patch should be applied directly
Package: uswsusp Version: 0.8-1 Severity: normal Hi Tim, debian/patches/LFS.patch modifies debian/rules and sets CFLAGS/LDFLAGS. As the patch is applied *after* debian/rules has been called, they will not have any effect. The general rule of thumb is, that changes to debian/ should be applied directly and changes to the upstream sources should be applied via distinct patches in debian/patches/. Bug#493540: linux-image-2.6.25-2-686-bigmem: fails to copy files/directories on USB storage media
Hi Teodor, As suggested, I've installed the 2.6.26 kernel using the linux-image-2.6.26-1-686-bigmem_2.6.26-1_i386.deb package from unstable, unfortunately with identical results. For testing purposes I even switched the video-driver from nvidia to nv to avoid any potential conflicts. Same results. I'm afraid even the latest 2.6.26 kernel does not resolve the problem. Regards, Stefan Test if this is also the case with 2.6.26 which was uploaded to unstable. This is the version that will probably be released in lenny. Bug#492348: libpam-devperm: Breaks execution of at jobs
tags 492348 + patch thanks [Petter Reinholdtsen] The back trace look like the function pointer __write_message is NULL, and thus a call to the function fail. But as far as I can see, it isn't a function pointer but a real function. Perhaps the dynamic linker is confused? I managed to track down the crash. It happen within __write_message(). This patch solve the issue: --- pam-devperm-1.6.orig/src/support.c +++ pam-devperm-1.6/src/support.c @@ -70,8 +70,9 @@ conv = (struct pam_conv *) conv_void; if (retval == PAM_SUCCESS) { - retval = conv-conv (1, (const struct pam_message **)pmsg, - resp, conv-appdata_ptr); + if (conv-conv) + retval = conv-conv (1, (const struct pam_message **)pmsg, +resp, conv-appdata_ptr); if (retval != PAM_SUCCESS) return retval; } The call to notify the user application do not check if there is a function to call, and thus fail. So, I see two problems here - The pam module fail when there is no tty, and thus listing it as required in /etc/pam.d/common-session will fail with the current implementation. - The pam module crashes when trying to write messages. No idea why. This is solved with the above patch. I plan to upload a new version of this package, and orphaning in the process, as the current maintainer seem to be missing and have not uploaded a new version since 2003. The lib fails creating the ods file. I sent an email to upstream and kindly he solved the bug in a new version, 0.0.16. We have in debian an old version ;-) (0.0.13). Bug#493583: Display bugs that affect this package even when assigned to another
Package: bugs.debian.org Severity: wishlist It would be really neat if you could designate that a bug that is assigned to another package, affects this one. It's quite common as a maintainer to assign bugs to another package especially libraries but visitors to your package's bugs page then won't know about the other bug and may file duplicates/be confused. A solution to this is to have new functionality that declares that a bug affects a certain package. I guess I see it working something like: * Have a command that lets you say that this bug affects this package and gives a short description of how with a severity e.g. affects 123456 baz serious baz is currently broken by the new upload of libfoobar which fails to include /usr/lib/libfoobar* * Store these somehow. I imagine it's easy to store in the buglog for the particular bug but you would also want a per-package-it-affects index so that you can... * Display them. Have the web interface trawl the per-package-it-affects index for itself/its source package name and display the severity and reason with a link to the bugs on other packages that affect this one. * Update the storage When a bug is closed it should be removed from the per-package-it-affects index. Optionally you could notify people on the [EMAIL PROTECTED] alias that you had done so. I included the severity to give a human indication of how bad it is but also because you could potentially feed things back into testing migration. I see the severity being the severity this bug has for the affected package not necessary the same as that of the bug that has been reassigned. I was thinking about this today because of http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=493407 and its effect on netbase but in general lots of the xfce stuff is based on common libraries (e.g. libvte, libxine etc) and it'd be nice to keep track of those bugs on the index page for our packages in the BTS. It is similar in concept to blocks but not the same. I wouldn't file a bug on netbase about that issue and if I did I'd expect it to get merged to the existing bug on lsb. This encourages more users to file more bugs and then they all get merged onto a package noone is looking at when reporting the bug. Currently a maintainer could file a placeholder bug on a package and set it blocking on the other bug and then manually close it at the same time the other one gets closed but that seems like a lot of work that the BTS could just do for us. Anyway, hope this makes some sense. Simon. -- But Granny had spent a lifetime bending recalcitrant creatures to her bidding and, while Esk was a surprisingly strong opponent, it was obvious that she would give in before the end of the paragraph. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Very weird--it might make sense if upgrading nfs-utils broke the mount itself, but here it seems the mount is succeeding and subsequent file access (which I'd expect to only involve the in-kernel client code) is failing. Maybe there's some difference in the mount options? What does /proc/self/mounts say? I assume these are all v2 or v3 mounts? I'm guessing v4 and that idmapd is causing problems. The same way -2.6.26-1-amd64 has precedence over -2.6.25-2-amd64 (25 vs 26). Thanks Teodor. This seems to come from #422759, which didn't make it to etch. That explains why people are surprised about the change. I'm tagging this bug wontfix unless someone can convince me otherwise.
