Bug#508985: ITP: libmysqlcppconn-dev -- MySQL C++ Connectivity library
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Rene Engelhard r...@debian.org * Package name: libmysqlcppconn-dev Version : 1.0.2 snapshot Upstream Author : MySQL AB, Sun Microsystems Inc. * URL : http://forge.mysql.com/wiki/Connector_C++ * License : GPL v2 with FLOSS exception Programming Lang: C++ Description : MySQL C++ Connectivity library MySQL Connector/C++ is a MySQL database connector for C++. . It mimics the JDBC 4.0 API. OpenOffice.org will somewhen include a native driver for MySQL - which uses mysqlcppconn - they already have experimental stuff there. MySQL people: I already did some work on it and have a preliminary package of 1.0.2~2008121 here (yet without the shared lib as API still changes, we also could wait till I upload it or just package the static lib - which I think we should do anyway for now). But should I just maintain it myself or shoudld I (imho better) put this under pkg-mysql-maint? Bug#508988: mutt: reading header cache on ext3 with dir_index is dead slow with maildir due to missing inode sort
Package: mutt Version: 1.5.18-4 Severity: normal Hi, mutt doesn't seem to sort the inode list of a maildir if a header cache file is found and maildir_header_cache_verify is unset: #if USE_HCACHE if (option(OPTHCACHEVERIFY)) { DO_SORT(); ret = stat(fn, lastchanged); } This leads to insane long time to open a maildir with a lot of mails (like 2) if the header cache is not in the FS cache (like right after boot). It reads the header cache with the unsorted inode list, which causes pretty random seeks in the header cache file. To reproduce: 1. open a large maildir ( 2 mails) on ext3 with dir_index enabled (should be on by default since may years) to make sure that the header cache is created 2. unset maildir_header_cache_verify in ~/.muttrc 3. echo 7 /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches 4. open the maildir again It should now take very long to open the maildir. Without step 2, it is quick again. For reference, here are 2 strace excerpts, one taken with ext3, one taken with XFS. I created them before I discovered the real cause of the slowness, and only saw that it is slow on ext3, but fast on XFS. Just look at the timestamps. XFS takes 3 seconds, ext3 takes 18 seconds: http://tikei.de/mutt_hcache_ext3.txt http://tikei.de/mutt_hcache_xfs.txt You can also see that the seek offsets are somewhat linear for XFS, but pretty random for ext3. The latter is the real cause: the hard disk is seeking to death. Regards, Tino -- Package-specific info: Mutt 1.5.18 (2008-05-17) Copyright (C) 1996-2008 Michael R. Elkins and others. Bug#509024: php-xajax: XSS issue (incomplete patch for CVE-2007-2739)
Hi, * Steffen Joeris steffen.joe...@skolelinux.de [2008-12-17 17:53]: The patch for CVE-2007-2739 seems to be incomplete as already discussed via private mail. Just using htmlspecialchars(), instead of the replace calls should do the trick. I've requested a new CVE id for this and will paste it here as soon as I get it. Why do you think it is incomplete? You can't do an XSS just with and without the other characters that are escaped. Just because the patch doesn't escape anything htmlspecialchars does doesn't mean it's incomplete. I suggest you downgrade this bug to normal as there is no reason to fix this with some selfmade hack. Bug#508897: Can not reproduce this bug
I have failed to reproduce this bug both using Sid (an update from clean Etch install under QEMU running the i386 arch) and Etch (on a hardware i686 platform), which seems to have the same versions of libtk8.4 and libxcb1 as those in Sid at the moment. Presence or absence of tkxwin (which is not in Debian proper) also didn't affect anything in both cases. Since Sergei Golovan has also failed to reproduce this (in cdebootstrap's chroot on i386), I tend to suppose there's some unknown factor effecting this behaviour. So the question is: do you have some unusual setup? For instance, tkabber being run on a host different from the local one, forwarded X11 connection, something interesting in LD_PRELOAD, etc. Also it would be very interesting to know whether the problem occurs when you run tkabber under Tcl/Tk 8.5. You can install tcl8.5 and tk8.5 and safely remove them afterwards -- in they don't conflict with packages from Tcl/Tk 8.4. To run tkabber under Tcl/Tk 8.5 you can either temporary diverge /usr/bin/wish to point to /usr/bin/wish8.5 using # update-alternatives --config wish or run tkabber like this: $ wish8.5 /usr/share/tkabber/tkabber.tcl -name Tkabber -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#509015: ifplugd waits more than the specified delays
Package: ifplugd Version: 0.28-12 Tags: patch According to ifplugd's manual, when passed the options -u0 and -d0, ifplugd should up and down the interface as soon as it detects the cable was connected or disconnected. For example, if running with options -t10 -u0 -d0, one would expect the interface to get up or down at any time within 10 seconds of the cable being connected or disconnected. However, ifplugd actually defers this for an extra polling cycle - in my example, any time between 10 and 20 seconds after the cable is (dis)connected. This is easily fixed by replacing 't time(NULL)' with 't = time(NULL)' in the test for the action processing, thus allowing the action to be processed if the target time t is equal to time(NULL), which is the case for a newly detected event with -u and -d options equal to 0. Also, I'm proposing to shorten the polling delay when an action is scheduled to happen before the delay expires: for example if we just detected that the cable was unplugged, and we want to down the interface in two seconds, but the usual polling delay is 10 seconds, we should use a select timeout of two seconds just for the current polling cycle. The attached patch implements these two suggestions. I've been running it with options -M -t300 -u0 -d2. The long poll cycle allows my CPU to go sleep. The monitoring option allows ifplugd to be notified of plug and unplug events right when they happen. ifplugd ups the interface right away (within a quarter of a second) when the cable is connected, and waits two seconds before downing the interface when the cable is disconnected. Works very well for me ! -- Michel Walken Lespinasse A program is never fully debugged until the last user dies. diff -ru ifplugd-0.28.orig/src/ifplugd.c ifplugd-0.28/src/ifplugd.c --- ifplugd-0.28.orig/src/ifplugd.c 2008-12-17 03:27:34.0 -0800 +++ ifplugd-0.28/src/ifplugd.c 2008-12-17 04:26:00.0 -0800 @@ -468,6 +468,14 @@ tv.tv_sec = polltime; tv.tv_usec = 0; +if (t) { +int delay = t - time(NULL); +if (delay 0) +tv.tv_sec = 0; +else if (delay tv.tv_sec) +tv.tv_sec = delay; +} + if (select(FD_SETSIZE, qfds, NULL, NULL, tv) 0) { if (errno == EINTR) continue; @@ -573,7 +581,7 @@ } } -if (t t time(NULL)) { +if (t t = time(NULL)) { t = 0; if (action(status) 0)
Bug#508812: Reusing python-btsutils for bts-link

Are the debianbts-python bindings supposed to go into an extra package, will we reuse python-debianbts or is it supposed to go into python-debian? Depending on the answer we can open or use the appropriate mailinglist. My initial idea (years ago) was to *merge* it into python-debian. Still, I care more about integration (if there is margin to do that) and marketing of the bts lib, that were the two main reasons for proposing the merge. Similarly, why you just have a fulltext? It is a fulltext of what? The whole buglog? That should be better accessed with some (possibly pre-existing in the python stdlib) mailbox-like abstraction. Also, but possibly as a more long term goal, it would be really nice to provide some (heuristic and optional) parsing of each message in the bug log, especially the first one. Could develop into a potential CSRF, don't have an exploit here. Should be properly fixed. Bug#509006: network-manager: Loses wired connection upon upgrade (from 0.6.6-2+b1 to 0.7.0~svn4191-1)
Michael Biebl bi...@teco.edu (17/12/2008): And nm-applet reports the wired network is unsupported. ^^^ It says unmanaged, not unsupported. Unmanaged means, that you have configured that device in /etc/network/interfaces OK, got caught by l10n: the French translation is ambiguous, since “n'est pas gérée” can be understood both ways; and it's usual to do “supported” → “géré” rather than “supporté” (which is considered as an anglicism). Let me know if I can send you more input, or test other versions (source packages are OK). Could you describe in more detail, what your actual problem is? It's actually more subtle than I thought: nm reports that there's no connection, so liferea, epiphany, etc. went in disconnected mode; since I called “dhclient eth0”, I've got a connection back. To check nm does its job, I down'd the interface (“ifconfig eth0 down”), and restarted nm, but nm doesn't look like wanting to re-up it. I could try after a fresh restart if you like, but it really sounds like nm isn't considering the interface. What does your /e/n/i look like? Do you have other network interfaces (other than eth0) which are managed by NM? ,-- | auto lo | iface lo inet loopback | auto eth0 | iface eth0 inet dhcp `-- I also tried to remove all eth0 references, and restart nm, but it's not going any better (nm-tool reports exactly the same as in my initial report). Bug#509006: network-manager: Loses wired connection upon upgrade (from 0.6.6-2+b1 to 0.7.0~svn4191-1)
Michael Biebl bi...@debian.org (17/12/2008): It's the same underlying issue. Alright. What has changed though between 0.6 and 0.7 is the way, how NM determines when to mark a device managed or unmanaged (see the 0.6 README.Debian and the new README.Debian). That's why you see this regression with 0.7. (It actually isn't a regression, as you can now controll more easily when to mark a device managed/unmanaged) Well, for people who want it to “just work” (and AFAICT that's the aim of network-manager people), it was previously working, and is no longer without tweaking a configuration file, hence my calling it a regression (from an very-end-user point of view). I agree that having more flexibility isn't a regression, though. Cheers, -- Cyril Brulebois signature.asc Description: Digital signature

I have reproduced the same problem in the attached file using openoffice.org version 1:2.4.1-12. What causes the bug (in the attached file) is the character that looks like a non-breaking whitespace. Bug#508812: Reusing python-btsutils for bts-link
Hi, just a quick question. Are the debianbts-python bindings supposed to go into an extra package, will we reuse python-debianbts or is it supposed to go into python-debian? Depending on the answer we can open or use the appropriate mailinglist. Anyways to make a start the discussion, here's what debianbts uses as datastructure for a single bugreport. It fits the needs of reportbug-ng so far, but maybe not others. Feel free to discuss: class Bugreport(object): Represents a bugreport from Debian's Bug Tracking System. def __init__(self, nr): self.nr = unicode(nr) self.summary = None self.submitter = None self.status = None self.severity = None self.fulltext = None self.package = None self.firstaction = None self.lastaction = None self.tags = None def __str__(self): s = Bug: %s\n % self.nr s += Package: %s\n % self.package s += Summary: %s\n % self.summary s += Submitter: %s\n % self.submitter s += Status: %s\n % self.status s += Severity: %s\n % self.severity s += Tags: %s\n % self.tags s += Firstaction: %s\n % self.firstaction s += Lastaction: %s\n % self.lastaction s += Fulltext: %s\n % self.fulltext return s def value(self): Returns an 'urgency value', the higher the number, the more urgent the bug is. Open bugs generally have higher urgencies than closed ones. return STATUS_VALUE.get(self.status.lower(), 200) + SEVERITY_VALUE.get(self.severity.lower(), 20) nr: is the bugnumber summary: is the subject line of the bugreport submitter: is the submitter of the bugreport status: is the bugstatus severity: ... fulltext: should hold the full bugreport but rng just displays the html of our bts instead package: is the package first and lastaction: are dates tags: ... the value method helps to numerically sort bugreports, where open bugreports have a higher value as closed ones and packages with a higher severity have a higher number than bugreports with a lower one. One could improve that by introducing a __comp__ method. At least debian can patch it in its kernels even if the rest of the world carries this around forever. Obviously impossible for 10.2 since it's not on the 99.0/24 network. This is tested with 2.6.17-2-vserver-k7 and 2.4.22-ac2 (which I spose is not strictly debian), but the bug has been in the source since linux 2.2 as mentioned. NM didn't do the later here yet tough. I agree, that this situation is less than ideal (and thanks for the nice writeup). With 0.7 the situation will be better, as NM can handle more different use case (static ip etc.), but the underlying problem still exists. A short term fix could be, to assume the network status to be online for unmanaged devices, rather than offline. This way apps wouldn't go into offline mode. What you will get though eventually, is unsuccessful network connection attempts (but that wouldn't be a regression with regard to old ifupdown). Cyril Brulebois cyril.bruleb...@kerlabs.com (17/12/2008): it'd be nice to be able to specify both -F/-M through environment variables, instead of having to use a wrapper; supporting both CCACHE_MAX_FILES and CCACHE_MAX_SIZE shouldn't be very hard to implement, I guess. Oh, OK, those options actually set the limits permanently. I didn't notice this at first sight since I didn't find any obvious settings under ~/.ccache, but looking at the implementation (stats_set_limits() in stats.c), the setting is stored in the “stats” files. Bug#509006: network-manager: Loses wired connection upon upgrade (from 0.6.6-2+b1 to 0.7.0~svn4191-1)

It's actually more subtle than I thought: nm reports that there's no connection, so liferea, epiphany, etc. went in disconnected mode; since That's a known issue. For unmanaged devices, NM assumes the state to be offline. I'm merging this with the existing bug reports. See e.g. #491826 for more info. There are some unofficial Ubuntu patches, which make NM always consider the state to be online, for unmanaged devices. This also has some downsides, but is probably more sane than to assume a offline state. (at worst, apps will try to establish a internet connection and fail) I called “dhclient eth0”, I've got a connection back. You need to restart the system settings service (see the README.Debian file I referring to in my previous email [1]) sudo killall nm-system-settings After that, NM should pick up you eth0 interface. An alternative is to configure eth0 via /e/n/i and set [ifupdown] managed=true Cheers, Michael [1] http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-utopia/packages/experimental/networkmanager/debian/network-manager.README.Debian?op=filerev=0sc=0 -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth? signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

There is already an upstream bug report for this: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=418745 Upstream doesn't seem to be interested in fixing false network online status reports or even deleting default routes in that case. Ubuntu ships a patch for exactly that, and I could pull it from there Sounds like a plan! Currently I just disabled Network Manager altogether. I just use it when I use wifi and at home and work I have port replicators for my ThinkPads. Bug#509027: hal: overloads the machine - have to reboot
Package: hal Version: 0.5.11-6 Severity: important On my laptop, if I have the DVD drive in place (hda), after some time I notice that the system is not responding. The KDE system monitor on the panel shows 100% kernel CPU time (I have core2 duo, and 100% means both cores are working hard). When this happens, the system appears to be frozen, when I move the mouse, the pointer reacts several seconds later. For a long time when this condition happened, all I could do was to switch off the power. Now I have found out that if I start shut down of the machine (keyboard combination, because the mouse is unusable), the system actually shuts down, but it takes like 15 minutes. (Actually today I had to switch off twice, keyboard shutdown did not work) When X is not running anymore, and I see the console, I see these messages printed (or similar, I copy these from syslog): Nov 7 10:09:18 karvaly kernel: [ 7613.343967] hda: status timeout: status=0xd0 { Busy } Nov 7 10:09:18 karvaly kernel: [ 7613.343967] ide: failed opcode was: unknown Nov 7 10:09:18 karvaly kernel: [ 7613.343967] hda: drive not ready for command I'm not sure if I see the status timeout on the console, but I see the failed opcode and the drive not ready. Then very slowly the shutdown procedure is running, sometimes I can see a message printed on the console among the continuous flow of hda error messages. When the system stops hal, there are no more hda error messages, and the rest of the shutdown process is completed fast. So I assume that hal is trying to do something that overloads the machine. I would expect that if there is a condition that causes this behaviour, this condition could be treated differently... Bug#402710: Loop mount of XFS on DVD-RW fails on Debian, works on SUSE

This works correctly on SUSE 10.0 but fails on Debian 2.6.17-2. Summarizing what I think we have found out so far: - DVD has a fixed block size of 2048 bytes - mkfs.xfs created a filesystem with block size of 4096 bytes - Debian kernel (2.6.17) is unable to loop mount it from the DVD - SUSE 10.0 kernel (2.6.13 ?) is able to loop mount it - Encryption makes no difference This suggests that an unknown difference exists between the SUSE and Debian kernels. I'm not sure where to start looking for this; perhaps someone on the kernel team can suggest how to continue. If my understanding of the problem is correct, you should be able to work around this problem by telling mkfs.xfs to create the filesystem with a block size that matches the block size of the DVD (something like mkfs.xfs -b 2048 /dev/loop0). This is not possible anymore, and the shares are only show in Computer when they are mounted. this is still a current issue with latest packages from experimental. The system has a DVD burner set as master on the second IDE interface, and a hard disk connected to the first SATA II port. The SATA II port can be set in the BIOS to work in either IDE or AHCI mode, but the problem appears in both cases. The problem is that the hard disk appears both as /dev/hdg (initially) and /dev/sda (when the SATA driver gets loaded), but accessing it via /dev/hdg generates lots of I/O error messages, as shown in the attached dmesg (lspci and dmesg outputs refer to the SATA II ports set to AHCI mode in the BIOS). Passing ide2=noprobe ide3=noprobe hdg=noprobe or similar options to the kernel (the system is set up with GRUB) has no effect, so it seems to be not possible to disable the (non-functional) PATA acccess to the SATA II disk. Bug#509040: transmission-gtk: you can only view the announce statistics for the first tracker in a .torrent
Package: transmission-gtk Version: 1.40-3 Severity: minor When you are viewing the Tracker tab for a multi-tracker .torrent in transmission-gtk, under the announce section, you can only view the information (reponse code, last announce at, next announce in, etc) for the first tracker on a .torrent. Also, I'm not sure about this, but I think that the Scrape information is only relevant for the first tracker in a torrent as well. In the GUI, right above these stats is a list of trackers, and individual trackers can be put in focus. transmission-gtk should follow that focus and give you the specific scrape/announce information for the tracker you have selected. My justification for making this minor instead of wishlist is that the top tracker on the list is not always the most important, and so this information is being misrepresented if you look at the .torrent as a whole. But that bug has been reported against 0.6.6-2 and previous versions (unstable's) were working fine for me, so (IMHO) that looks like a regression from previous versions. It's the same underlying issue. What has changed though between 0.6 and 0.7 is the way, how NM determines when to mark a device managed or unmanaged (see the 0.6 README.Debian and the new README.Debian). That's why you see this regression with 0.7. (It actually isn't a regression, as you can now controll more easily when to mark a device managed/unmanaged) You need to restart the system settings service (see the README.Debian file I referring to in my previous email [1]) Asudo killall nm-system-settings After that, NM should pick up you eth0 interface. FWIW, it didn't. (I checked the daemon restarted, and invoke-rc.d restarted network-manager as well afterwards.) Bug#507021: helpdeco: 507021: status update
I've made a fair bit of progress on this issue but I keep finding more issues as I progress towards a full solution. I'm not yet at the point where the .hlp file mentioned in the initial port can be decompiled on amd64, but I am getting closer. Based on the issues I found and fixed in upstream SVN last year with the zzuf input fuzzer, I don't think the current version should be allowed into lenny on any architecture, so I won't be re-uploading it restricted to i386. I really shouldn't have gotten this uploaded to Debian in the first place and I'm sorry for having done so. For any release team members who see this: if this bug is holding up the release, please just remove helpdeco from lenny and I'll provide a lenny backport when the fixes are complete. Bug#410857: NFS breaks down because of errors in connection tracking
On Tue, Feb 13, 2007 at 11:14:17PM +0100, Georg Mainik wrote: Package: linux-image-2.6.18-3-686 Version: 2.6.18-7 Severity: normal Hello, this is my first bug report and I am trying my best to submit it in a correct way and to give enough information for solving the problem. After installing and configuring a firewall, (Shorewall) I observed that NFS broke down on the clients after a reboot -- not always, but in 80% of all cases. With some help from a friend, I could find out that there was an inconsistency in connection tracking: although the NFS connection was established by the client, the NFS packages sent by the server did not pass the sequence number check. After adding a log target to Shorewall's dropInvalid chain (there is none by default), I saw the following in the syslog: - [..] - With some more help, I got a workaround for that: echo 1 /proc/sys/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_conntrack_tcp_be_liberal After including this line into Shorewall's post-init script, the NFS connection did not break down any more. I don't know whether the origin of the problem is in the netfilter or in the nfs server or in the connection tracking on the client or server (maybe the server does not notice the client reboot and goes on with sequence numbers from the old connections?), but it is in the kernel -- the firewall rules are correct and the packages are not recognized as a part of the existing connection. Does this error still occur with more recent kernel versions? Cheers, Moritz -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? File diversions or a Replace relation are another possibility. This bug will be assigned to both packages. Bug#509044: transmission-gtk: ability to see where your peers came from
Package: transmission-gtk Version: 1.40-3 Severity: wishlist The peers tab in transmission-gtk allows you to see what peers you are connected to and other basic information about them. Bug#409011: When booting: 38 sec. delay at Attempting manual resume
On Mon, Jan 29, 2007 at 04:16:24PM -0800, David Lawyer wrote: Package: linux-image-2.6.17-2-486 Version: 2.6.17-9_i386 Please merge my bug report 365266 into this as they are at least partially the same bug. When I submitted the 365266 bug report I thought that the delay in booting was due to probing ide0 which is broken on my PC. But now it doesn't seem to probe ide0 anymore but the delay still exists. Here's from dmesg at the point of delay. Note that I've put debug and time on the kernel command line (using lilo). [ 46.324557] hdd: cache flushes not supported [ 46.325131] hdd: hdd1 hdd2 hdd3 [ 84.007425] Attempting manual resume [ 84.353163] kjournald starting. Commit interval 5 seconds What is going on? resume must mean resume from a suspend, but there is no suspend in dmesg. The Attempting manual resume message is found in /linux-2.6.x/kernel/power/disk.c in the function resume_store(). I don't have source code on my PC but found it on the Internet at: http://www.gelato.unsw.edu.au/lxr/source/kernel/power/disk.c#L12 According to this site, the function name that issues this message (resume_store) only appears in the definition of this function, In other words the function is defined but never used (if this site indexing is correct). cat /sys/power/resume results in 22:67 which is hdd3, the swap partition on my backup drive. Apparently the image being restored comes from there and it happens just after hdd3 prints in the dmesg output. Yet I don't see S1SUSPEND on hdd3 which is the SWSUSP_SIG (sinature). There is a document, swsusp, in the power directory of the kernel documentation and it says that it's not good to use suspend if the ide driver is a module (as it is with this package). But is suspend being used at all? David Lawyer Does this error still occur with more recent kernel versions?
