Bug#522604: hpijs: Cannot print borderless on 4x6 paper anymore
Package: hpijs Version: 3.9.2-3 Severity: normal Hi, I used to be able to print borderless on 4x6 paper using my PSC2610 printer. I could do this directly from The GIMP using a custom paper size and choosing the correct printout mode and quality. Before that, I had to export my picture to PS and use lp to send the PS to a special print queue, with 4x6 papersize and correct printout mode selected in the CUPS options. Now, none of these methods work any more. The printer begins printing at the end of the 4x6 paper (on a +/-1cm band only), all the rest of the paper is blank. This happens with both methods. Printing a 4x6 picture on DIN-A4 paper (8.5x11) work perfectly. I have no idea what other information I can provide to try and debug this issue, and I am not even sure this is a problem with hpijs. I have already tried downgrading to the etch versions: hplip/hpijs, cups, libgnomeprint with no success (not alltogether though, which might help?). Utility hp-toolbox needs package python-qt4-dbus to be installed, otherwise following error will be thrown: [...] hplip suggests hplip-gui which depends on python-qt4-dbus, this dependency is obviously too week. hplip should depend on hplip-gui or directly on python-qt4-dbus. Bug#522498: doesn't allow offline messages/impossible to comunicate with invisible contacts
On Sun,05.Apr.09, 09:46:56, Siddhesh Poyarekar wrote: in the message window. ayttm should not care about this, sending messages to offline contacts is not unusual, especially if some of them are invisible. The most annoying thing about it is that you can't even communicate with a contact who just wrote you something from invisible mode. There is a button on the chat window toolbar called Allow Offline Messaging, which should help you do that. In any case, I guess we either should be enabling that by default or at least detect if someone who is offline (i.e. invisible) has messaged us and then enable the offline chat button accordingly. Do you mean the button with the tooltip Allow? :P (the icon is a pencil writing on a paper) You could definitely improve that tooltip, and enabling it by default would make more sense, people do indeed message people who are offline (they might be invisible). BTW, I notice that some buttons are too small to show the entire text (ex. Preferences... - Sound - Files: the buttons show only the first 4 letters and half of the fifth, the Cancel button shows only Cance and the text is not centered vertically -- too low). I'm using Xfce 4.6 (default theme), but it was the same under 4.4.2 (also default theme). Regards, Andrei -- If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough. Yes, this is a known issue. Smileys will not load till you start chatting with your buddy. This is because ayttm uses the concept of fallback messaging, which transparently switches protocols to use the most suitable one for chatting between two contacts. This means that the first time you open a window to chat with a friend, ayttm doesn't know which protocol to use till you send your first message. I guess we should be selecting the protocol earlier or at least load a default smiley set. Send one message to your buddy and then click on the smileys button. These programs do their job by trying to open/ioctl these files (in this order): /proc/self/fd/0 (is a pseudo tty in your case) /dev/tty(also PTY) /dev/tty0 (only accessible to root) /dev/vc/0 (doesn’t exist nowadays) /dev/console(root) std{in,out, err} (PTY) As none of these is able to respond to a VT_GETSTATE ioctl, fgconsole and friends fail. It looks similar but I'm not too sure. The reports there were of the whole display blanking for a (short) while. Mine doesn't go blank. Instead a portion of it jitters rapidly sideways, then recovers (all under 0.1 seconds). Seen out of the corner of the eye, it looks like a flash. I'm guessing that the exact behaviour is dependent on the display hardware. I've seen the same problem manifest itself in slightly different ways when I've had the same computer (with the same driver) hooked up to a couple of different TV's via HDMI. Some react like the HDMI cable had been physically disconnected and reconnected while at least one TV never showed any (visible) problems at all... I'll either wait for a new driver to make it into Debian unstable, or compile 2.5.1 + patch myself. Is it reasonable to try the version in 'experimental'? That seems like it would be a big change to the xorg file or package layout, so I was a bit worried about using those packages. I'm using the intel driver from the experimental repo on a system otherwise using unstable without any ill effects. The problem is that even the experimental version is too old (2.6.1). Upstream has had a large number of bug fixes since then (most importantly to me - XV tearing fixes and the sync fixes we're discussing right now), so I'm hoping a more recent version will appear in experimental or unstable soon. -- David Härdeman -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#522266: Gnome-Keyring problem
Hi, I can confirm this problem. Although gnome-keyring-manager --start is executed by the gnome session manager, which can be seen in .xsession-errors by this entry: GNOME_KEYRING_SOCKET=/tmp/keyring-kqwr1i/socket the daemon seems to quit itself right afterwards. Other programs, in my case mail-notification, will spit error messages like ** (mail-notification:6248): WARNING **: couldn't connect to daemon at $GNOME_KEYRING_SOCKET: /tmp/keyring-kqwr1i/socket: Verbindungsaufbau abgelehnt ** (mail-notification:6248): WARNING **: couldn't communicate with gnome keyring daemon via dbus: Failed to execute program gnome-keyring-daemon: Success and not work properly. Starting gnome-keyring-manager also gives these error messages. For some reason, dbus can not start the gnome-keyring-daemon, it seems. OTOH, starting gnome-keyring-daemon --start manually from a terminal makes it work properly. Applications still say ** (gnome-keyring-manager:6737): WARNING **: couldn't connect to daemon at $GNOME_KEYRING_SOCKET: /tmp/keyring-kqwr1i/socket: Verbindungsaufbau abgelehnt but it seems they manage to talk to the running daemon via dbus. I’d rate this bug as important, as it severely impacts the usefulness of the package. Bug#522350: Pidgin Crashes Immediately on open
I'm seeing the same problem. I did a dist-upgrade of unstable on April 3rd and now any attempt to start a jabber session causes pidgin to SEGV in __xmlRaiseError in libxml2 (2.6.32.dfsg-5). Specifically, at line 612 of error.c in libxml2, schannel is called with what appears to be a bad function pointer. As a workaround, I set a breakpoint at line 611, set schannel = 0 on each break, and pidgin goes on to run normally. Here's a backtrace of the SEGV (using libxml2-dbg, libgtk2.0-0-dbg, libglib2.0-0-dbg, libssl0.9.8-dbg and pidgin-dbg). I can't really go any further with this but hopefully this will be of help. $ gdb ../../pidgin/pidgin-2.5.5/build/pidgin/.libs/pidgin GNU gdb 6.8-debian Copyright (C) 2008 Free Software Foundation, Inc. This sound like bootchart. (I can't ever see the .. it scrolls away too quickly). You can press Ctrl+s to stop the messages and Ctrl+q to reenable them. Which version of bootchart do you use? Do you use an initrd? What's your shell, i.e. where points the link /bin/sh to? I can't find any of these messages in any of the log files in /var/log/ and have no idea what I can to try and fix this - nor do I have any idea which log I should submit to assist with investigating this. I've run a live USB install which has allowed me to remove the init=/sbin/bootchartd from grub, Doesn't grub allow you to give the init command at the promt, i.e. start the kernel with init=/sbin/init? but this makes no difference... Package: iceweasel-firebug Version: 1.3.3-1 Severity: normal I just switched to another computer, and there it was reproduceable. Maybe the additional informations are helpful: - Iceweasel thoguht, that it has Version 1.07 installed. - Uninstalling firebug with dpkg did not help. Iceweasel still thought it had 1.07 installed. - Then I Uninstalled via iceweasel - AddOns, the entry was removed from the installed AddOns page. - Purgind and Reinstallation of the debian package finally then fixed the issue. That's what I mean by case by case consideration. so here's a summary of my understanding: - Xorg 1.5 handles access to the pci bus all by itself - that code has a bug, which got exposed by a kernel change which was necessary to make pci-express based sparcs work - Xorg = 1.5 let the kernel handle access to the pci bus, so the bug doesn't apply to newer versions - the kernel change was reverted for lenny r0 to make X work again, but will be reinstated for r1 because breaking pci-express machines is not acceptable, and X will fall back to the fbdev driver instead of going through pci, in an attempt to start up anyway. So your case with 2 X servers is probably not going to work with that workaround, and I'm not sure how to make it work with the X version in lenny, unfortunately. Patches welcome, though... Its main intent is to be used with Ruby on Rails applications for offloading long-running tasks. Since a Rails application blocks while serving a request it is best to move long-running tasks off into a background process that is divorced from http request/response cycle. I shall test the package with iceweasel 3.0.7 next week because now my laptop is damaged :( But version from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1843 and version from the package are the same (You can try apt-get source firebug and look into the created directory: it contains xpm which was downloaded from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1843) On 13:58 Sun 05 Apr , Tobias Frost wrote: TF Package: iceweasel-firebug TF Version: 1.3.3-1 TF Severity: grave TF Justification: renders package unusable TF The plugin for iceweasel does not work, as iceweasel deactivates it, tellinf it is not compatible to iceweasel 3.0.7-1. Bug#522626: iceweasel-firebug: Making it work again
On 14:12 Sun 05 Apr , Tobias Frost wrote: TF Package: iceweasel-firebug TF Version: 1.3.3-1 TF Severity: normal TF I just switched to another computer, and there it was reproduceable. TF Maybe the additional informations are helpful: TF - Iceweasel thoguht, that it has Version 1.07 installed. TF - Uninstalling firebug with dpkg did not help. Iceweasel still thought it had 1.07 installed. I think that you use firebug which was installed as user's plugin. Please try to create a new profile for iceweasel (You can temporary remove/rename your ~/.mozilla directory). TF - Then I Uninstalled via iceweasel - AddOns, the entry was removed from the installed AddOns page. TF - Purgind and Reinstallation of the debian package finally then fixed the issue. Now it works. see above :) TF Maybe the most important hint is, that Iceweasel thought it had another version installed. TF Why, I don't know. Plugins which were installed by user into the ~/.mozilla directory are act plugins which were installed by root. This is not a bug, this is feature of iceweasel/firefox :) TF I only installed firebug only from debian packages. We have a dpkg file trigger which will automatically refresh the cache whenever a new fdi file under /usr/share/hal/fdi is installed. I'm not sure, what more we can do about this within hal. Do you remember if this hal trigger was activated or not? Or did you manually edit a file in /usr/share/hal/fdi? Please describe your problem more detailed.
