Bug#124098: bzip2: bzless: behaves differently as less (as documented)

2009-06-14 Thread Tim Connors
On Thu, 3 Jan 2002, Antos Andras wrote:

  Your script can be summarized into this (simplier) script:

 Yes, I just wanted to keep the generality of the original script.

  The problem is that the user might already have LESSOPEN defined. I do
  not think using LESSOPEN is a good idea because it will interfere with
  the user's LESSOPEN, which might do other things than uncompressing the
  file.

 I see. This is a problem. But this idea is in less' man page.
  Perhaps LESSOPEN could be used at least when it was empty/unset ?
 Another problem with these scripts is that LESSOPEN is not effective
 when viewing standard input.

We've been using zless for years which overrides LESSOPEN, so what's wrong
with doing the identical thing in bzless?

If you haven't personally overridden LESSOPEN yourself, then it makes
sense to use bzless. If it makes sense to use bzless, then why would you
care if bzless overrides LESSOPEN?

FWIW, on my own systems, I just copied zless, changed gzip to bzip2
and was happy. It works. Less behaves like less always behaves.

Supply multiple files on the commandline, and you can view them all with
:n and :p which you can't do with the normal bzless.

Bug#533037: gnome-terminal: Incorrectly positions cursor when printing to lower right corner

2009-06-14 Thread Bas Wijnen
Package: gnome-terminal
Version: 2.22.3-3
Severity: minor

First of all, I'm not sure if this bug is in gnome-terminal or really in
some other package. Please reassign if needed.

When running aptitude in gnome-terminal, many of the progress counters
in the lower right corner (which should be counting from 0 to 100%) are
shifted one character, probably because of the strange cursor handling
that the lower right corner needs (delayed scrolling). Some numbers are
correctly printed, but some are shifted one character to the right, so
it looks something like this (through time):
  0%
 10%
 120
 130
This assumes that it should have been counting in steps of 10%.

Thanks,
Bas Wijnen

Bug#532432: This is not a wishlist

2009-06-14 Thread Xavier Maillard
Hi,

I was checking my bug reports and I saw you changed severity of
this one to whishlist without any explanation.

I do not agree. This is a serious bug since, as explained, your
package is unusable without a new 'Depends' item.

Please fix it and we will be done.

 It seems you either use anonftpsync or plain rsync.
 Thanks in advance for using the recommended ftpsync scriptset :

Still applies, and that is necessary (because ftpsync ensures the
archive is consistent even during the update).

 Why not ftp for ISOs ?

 Are you pushed from cdimage.debian.org ?
 You should have a look at http://debian.org/CD/mirroring#jigdomirror
 that allows you to build the ISO using your local mirror (less bandwidth
 consummed, and so ISO mirror updated more quickly)

Still applies.

Bug#525769: mirror submission for mirrors.ucr.ac.cr

2009-06-14 Thread Simon Paillard
Hello,

We have not been in touch since around 3 weeks now.

Since your mirror cannot be added as is (outdated for more than week as
of today), please find hereafter a couple of questions / remarks.

Thanks for your answer and best regards.

   You may use http://debian.org/CD/mirroring/#jigdomirror in order to
   build ISOs from your packages mirror.

  We don't get now the iso images, we download only the jigdo and torrent
  files now. Considering getting the netinst and businesscard isos, though.

 The list is mainly used to display a list of mirrors when users can find
 ISO files.
 So I suggest you submit an update later in case you mirror ISO files as
 well.

For the moment the biggest files provided by your debian-cd mirror are
the ones of debian-live :
http://mirrors.ucr.ac.cr/debian-cd/5.0.0-live/i386/usb-hdd/ and
http://mirrors.ucr.ac.cr/debian-cd/5.0.0-live/i386/web/

You may want to provide only i386 ISO instead (that may be more useful
to Debian users in your country).

Anyway, it's up to you, but tell us what you decide.

   Use a proper source http://debian.org/mirror/ftpmirror#wherefrom (you
   should use an push-primary or push-secondary mirror, while
   mirrorservice.org is a leaf)

  RSYNC_HOST=ftp.ca.debian.org

 Ok.

   Concerning being official ftp.CC.debian.org, see
   http://debian.org/mirror/official#criteria

  Regarding the criteria:

  * It's registered now.
  * Have a 24-hour cycle and has had quite heavy loads without problems
like a high load avg. or such.
  * Has a 90 Mbits/sec. link. Pretty heavy usage in work hours (CST),
though (UCR has about 4 people).
  * Not global blockings nor bandwidth limitations (at 4-7 a.m. you can
download at about  1.5/2.0 Mbytes/second)
  * About 6.3 TB disk space free at this moment
  * All Debian and Debian-Volatile is replicated
  * Replicating under debian/ and debian-volatile/
  * HTTP, FTPand Rsync can be used as stated
  * Debian and Debian-volatile are replicated with ftpsync running under a
dedicated user: user debian por Debian, user debianv for
debian-volatile

We need to check the freshness for a couple of weeks before giving any
ftp.CC.debian.org.

For example, the last successfull update occured 9 days ago:
http://mirrors.ucr.ac.cr/debian/project/trace/

 There are some files that should not appear in /debian/ :
 -rw--- 143 2009/05/24 21:14:31 .bash_history
 -rw--- 915 2009/05/24 21:14:11 .viminfo

 -rw-r--r-- 5409922 2009/05/24 05:16:20 ls-lR.gz
 -rw-r--r--  145190 2009/05/24 05:16:17 ls-lR.patch.gz
 drwxr-xr-x4096 2008/11/08 14:56:43 bin
 drwxr-xr-x4096 2009/05/04 07:35:22 etc
 drwxr-xr-x4096 2009/02/07 01:33:26 tools

 (same kind of remark concerning for debian-volatile)

Not exactly the same now, but :
* in debian-volatile: etc/ bin/
* in debian: log/

  * Push-mirroring: we wish to contact our upstream for that (I would like
to know how often and how much bandwidth is used for this).

 4 times a day, concerning the size, see at bottom of
 http://debian.org/mirror/size it gives around 2GB min / day

 ftp.ca.d.o is composed of several mirrors, you can check which is the fastest
 one for you:
 debian.mirror.iweb.ca ftp3.nrc.ca debian.mirror.rafal.ca

Did you select one of them ?

Hi,

a bit late but thank you for you links.

Concerning my ITP, is it alright ? I mean, is it good practice to
put a previously dropped package into Debian again ?

As said, I am the new maintainer and I fixed many small bugs thus
making it a lot more stable than it was before.

I am also offering to maintain the Debian package if you want (it
is already in the bazaar repository).

Thank you for your answers.

Bug#489866: mirror submission for mirror.transact.net.au

2009-06-14 Thread Simon Paillard
Dear mirror.transact.net.au admins,

Hi,

I get a segmentation fault, when trying to do strace on a cp -a

Bug#402906: multirow pushing not working?

2009-06-14 Thread Salvatore Bonaccorso
Hi Håkon Nessjøen

In Debian BTS we have a bugreport regarding the multirow pushing not
working [1].

 [1] http://bugs.debian.org/402906

Indeed the following example does not work if I pass an 4x3 array:
--
#!/usr/bin/perl
use Text::ASCIITable;
$t = Text::ASCIITable-new();
$t-setCols('one','two','three');
$t-addRow([
[ 1, 2, 3 ],
[ 4, 5, 6 ],
[ 7, 8, 9 ],
[ 0, 0, 0 ]
]);
print $t-draw();
--

It produces the following output:
Received too many columns at ./ansi-example.pl line 5

.---.
| one | two | three |
+-+-+---+
'-+-+---'

Removing the [0, 0, 0] indeed gives:

.---.
| one | two | three |
+-+-+---+
|   1 |   2 | 3 |
|   4 |   5 | 6 |
|   7 |   8 | 9 |
'-+-+---'

The Bugreporter notices that the problem should:
The problem is that the check for the right number of
columns in addRow() checks the first dimension of the passed array,
which is correct if you pass a single row but incorrect if you pass
an array of rows. Therefore, this only happens to work if you pass
less rows than columns.

Could you please have a look into it?
Many thanks for developing this nice Perl module,

Kind regards
Salvatore

 gnutls26's link problem is not caused by a convenience library. It is
 caused by direct linking, and I tried to provide a self-contained
 explanation in
 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=405239#39

 Is that with a Debian version of libtool, or with the upstream
 version? Did you try with the current version in
 testing/unstable? The Debian version has been patched for a long
 time not to add that depedency, except in that case of convience
 libraries.
[...]

Recent versions of gnutls indeed are not using Debian libtool anymore.
When using Debian's patched libtool some unnecessary linkage is
removed, but libgpg-error stays. However afaict the problem used to be
masked by a libtool problem, but currently is not a libtool problem
anymore. The culprit seems to be that this test

  AC_LIB_HAVE_LINKFLAGS(gcrypt,, [#include gcrypt.h],
[enum gcry_cipher_algos i = GCRY_CIPHER_CAMELLIA128])
  if test $ac_cv_libgcrypt != yes; then
AC_MSG_ERROR([[
***
*** libgcrypt was not found. You may want to get it from
*** ftp://ftp.gnupg.org/gcrypt/libgcrypt/
***
]])
  fi
---
gives us checking how to link with libgcrypt... /usr/lib/libgcrypt.so
/usr/lib/libgpg-error.so, since AC_LIB_HAVE_LINKFLAGS recursively
expands la files. We therefore end up with

/bin/bash ./libtool --tag=CC   --mode=link cc  [...] gnutls_psk_netconf.lo
gl/liblgnu.la x509/libgnutls_x509.la -L/usr/lib -lz -L/usr/lib -lgcrypt
-L/usr/lib -lgpg-error   openpgp/libgnutls_openpgp.la opencdk/libminiopencdk.la

So libtool is not *adding* something.

Sorry Simon, I did not see this before.

Hmm, you were in fact right. It was an accident that clamd support is
disable. I was fooled by a comment in the configure that clamd support will
be builtin always. But anyhow my recommendation to libclamav still counts for
most cases because dansguardian is able to config more things from inside the
library.

If you want I can provide you with a lenny package with reenabled clamd
support. I also plan to provide some recent dansguardian packages for
lenny-backports which will also have clamd support enabled..

Bug#533042: tomboy-latex: Becomes incredibly slow with larger notes

2009-06-14 Thread Jö Fahlke
Package: tomboy-latex
Version: 0.5-1
Severity: normal

Hi!

With larger notes tomboy (with LaTeX-plugin enabled) becomes really slow. I
can often type whole sentences without any feedback from tomboy (no cursor
movement, no charachters appearing, and tomboys windows don't redraw if I drag
another window over it). When I'm finished typing and wait for about 30-60
seconds, the typed stuff will appear all at once. My impression is that there
is some O(n^2) behaviour there, where n is either the total size of the note
or the number of equations in it.

A sample note is attached.

Thanks,
Jö.

For the edge basis we have the following properties, which fully determine them:
listlist-item dir=ltrEach shape function \[\psi_i\] is linear.
/list-itemlist-item dir=ltrEach shape function maps from \[\mathbb R^n\]
to \[\mathbb R^n\], where \[n\] is the dimension.
/list-itemlist-item dir=ltrFor each shape function holds \[\psi_i(\mathbf
x)\cdot\mathbf t^j=\delta_{ij}\quad\forall\mathbf x\in\Gamma^j\], where
\[\Gamma^j\] denotes edge \[j\] and \[\mathbf t^j\] denotes a tangential unit
vector to that edge./list-item/list
We use the following numbering of edges and vertices:
monospace| edge # | vertex 0 # | vertex 1 # |
|0   | 0  |  1 |
|1   | 0  |  2 |
|2   | 1  |  2 |/monospace
From that follow the following definitions for the tangential unit vectors
\[\mathbf t^i\] and edge lengthes \[\ell^i\], where \[x^i\] are the coordinates
of vertex \[i\]:
listlist-item dir=ltr\[\mathbf t^0=(\mathbf x^1-\mathbf x^0)/\ell^0\],
\[\ell^0=||\mathbf x^1-\mathbf x^0||\]

/list-itemlist-item dir=ltr\[\mathbf t^2=(\mathbf x^2-\mathbf
x^1)/\ell^2\], \[\ell^2=||\mathbf x^2-\mathbf x^1||\]/list-item/list
Since the shape functions are linear, we write them in the following way:
listlist-item dir=ltr\[\psi^i(\mathbf x)=\mathrm A^i\mathbf x+\mathbf

Evaluating the shape functions at the three vertices and taking the scalar
product with the two adjacent tangential vectors \[\psi^i(\mathbf

the following six conditions:

Bug#533041: rubber: please add nomencl support

2009-06-14 Thread Flavio Grossi
Package: rubber
Version: 1.1-1.1
Severity: wishlist

Current rubber version in debian doesn't support nomencl package.
However development version here http://iml.univ-mrs.fr/~beffara/darcs/rubber/
does.

Since the fix is trivial, it would be nice to have it in debian, taking the
code from the darcs repository.

Thanks for your work.

 Hi, README.Debian currently ships with libsbuild-perl because the sbuild
 source package builds multiple binaries, thus, since README.Debian is not
 prepended by a packagename it is installed in the first binary package in
 the control file. I believe this is incorrect, README.Debian should ship
 in the sbuild package because it is explicitly mentioned in man 1 sbuild.

 ~/Work/local $ for i in *.deb; do dpkg -c $i | grep README.Debian; done
 -rw-r--r-- root/root  1527 2009-05-17 13:47
 ./usr/share/doc/libsbuild-perl/README.Debian

 So a simple:

 mv debian/README.Debian debian/sbuild.README.Debian

 would fix this.

Done.  Thanks for noticing this!

Bug#521325: ivman replacement

2009-06-14 Thread Adrian Knoth
Hi!

I googled a bit. ivman development has slowed down to stagnation, so
there's a replacement:

   apt-get install halevt

I'm not running the system daemon (START_DAEMON=no in
/etc/default/halevt) and simply replaced ivman in my .xsession by
halevt.

It's pretty much a drop-in replacement, so I don't care about ivman
anymore. ;)

thanks

Hi,

 The default configuration uses /tmp/dgvirus to download and check
 downloaded
 content for viruses. / is often configured with little space, leading to
 a
 fragile setup.

 Relocating this directory to /var/tmp/dgvirus seems like an easy fix, as
 /var is tipically sized for larger files.
Doesn't setting filecachedir to /var/tmp work?

Alex

btw. you tagged the report patch, but there is no patch attached.

 These fonts will be co-maintained via the Alioth pkg-fonts team
 (http://pkg-fonts.alioth.debian.org/) and will be be split into
 ttf-foundry-fontfamilyname packages.

Is this actually going to happen anytime soon?
I'd like to do a QA upload of gw-fonts-ttf removing the fc-cache call from
postinst as that is not needed anymore.

 It's not.

  If your link is already congestionned while your mirror is not in the

Hello,

this is the first time I use reportbug so excuse me if something is
wrong and please correct this.

I'm using live-helper from live.debian.net/debian/ repository,
stable-live version in an updated lenny 5.0.1 live system build.

After login in, the system starts to be loaded with cron jobs. I was
going to create a hook to stop cron execution and, while I was digging
live-initramfs for examples to how to do it, I've found it was already
made in /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/live-bottom/25configure_init:

# This has the nice side effect of the
cron.{daily,weekly,monthly} jobs in
# /etc/crontab remaining disabled, yet also not run by anacron
if [ -x /root/usr/sbin/anacron ]
then
chroot /root dpkg-divert --add --rename --quiet
/usr/sbin/anacron
ln -s /bin/true /usr/sbin/anacron
fi

From what I see the link isn't working because it's not linking in the
/root filesystem. I guess it should be:

ln -s /root/bin/true /root/usr/sbin/anacron

Bug#453348: SSL client certificate support

2009-06-14 Thread Emmanuel Bouthenot
Hi Jan,

 I've already created a patch that achieves this (which proved to be a bit
 tricky because gnutls won't select self-signed client certificates on its
 own and has to be made to), but I haven't yet glued the code to server-
 specific configuration variables, which would be the optimal solution IMHO.
It would be nice if you could attach your patch to this bug report
even if it is not fully functionnal. It could help upstream developers
to add this feature more quickly.

Hi,

The package works as expected. Most dekstop environment relies on HAL
which runs as root to mount removable medias.
I do not see any reason to add a useless group for more than 95% of
ntfs-3g users.
Moreover, using the fuse group may lead to security flaws n your system
because the user will be allowed to R/W any fuse based filesystem, not
only ntfs-3g.

Regards, Adam.

Bug#525274: privoxy: lack of disabling IPv6

 Wouldn't it be a better solution to fix your IPv6 problems generally
 instead of modifying privoxy? Did you think about removing the IPv6
 default route, if your ISP doesn't support IPv6? This should solve
 your IPv6 problems for all programs.

http://www.ipv6style.jp/en/news/20070226/ntteast.html
 FLET'S .NET, an IPv6 closed network service currently offered by NTT East,
 will continue operation as well.

It is closed IPv6 network for own service.
Definitely, I disable IPv6 and needless to modify privoxy.

 I don't think that an option to disable IPv6 in privoxy would be the
 right way trough IPv6 (and we have to migration to IPv6 in the near
 future, since we run out of IPv4 addresses).

It is true. But we use IPv4 now and for a while.

 I'm not sure whether it would be possible to fall back to IPv4 after
 some timeout if the IPv6 address doesn't answer. But on the otherhand
 the broken of www.apache.org just showed, that it is necessary to
 bring IPv6 into the minds of all administrators. Without someone
 running into trouble with broken IPv6, the IPv6 setup will never been
 fixed and the migration will take forever...

Iceweasel, wget, w3m and so on, has disabling IPv6 (IPv4 only) option.
So, it is better that privoxy also has it, I think.

The bug URL is:

   What is this 2.0 version?
 I am sorry for the mistake. It is the 0.13.54-1 version.
 Currently it exists in Debian unstable or you can download from
 http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/z/zziplib/

   Just check if `zzip-config --libs` does _not_ include '-z' and you'll
   see if the bug is fixed :)
 There is no program called zzip-config in the 0.13.54 version. I am
 new user to the zziplib. Could you give me any hint about that?

AFAICS upstream switched to pkgconfig. However the issue seems to
remain:

  $ pkg-config zziplib --libs
  -lzzip -lz

I see that I'm not using zziplib in my package anymore (it was used to
retrieve resources from a bundled, executable-appended .zip, but
Debian's build system strips executables at the wrong moment and
strips the resources along the way, preventing using this technique).
Thus I can't test improvements to the zzip packaging.

Bug#533006: masqmail: segfaults with connection method pipe

thanks

[2009-06-13 19:56] Andreas Hoenen andr...@hoenen-terstappen.de
 Package: masqmail
 Version: 0.2.21-6
 Severity: important

 After upgrading masqmail 0.2.21-5 to 0.2.21-6, masqmail segfaults when trying
 to
 deliver queued mails:

 Jun 13 19:33:05 manetheren masqmail[16167]: Starting queue run.

 Reverting to 0.2.21-5 resolves the problem, as well as rebuilding 0.2.21-6
 with
 the 0.2.21-5 version of file online.c. When looking at the changes between -5
 and -6 for this file, it seems that masqmail tries to determine the length of
 an
 uninitialized string (l.39):

 25  static
 26  gchar *detect_online_pipe(const gchar *pipe)
 27  {
 28pid_t pid;
 29void (*old_signal)(int);
 30int status;
 31FILE *in;
 32gchar *name = NULL;

 33old_signal = signal(SIGCHLD, SIG_DFL);

 34in = peopen(pipe, r, environ, pid);
 35if(in != NULL){
 36  gchar output[256];
 37  if(fgets(output, 255, in)){
 38g_strchomp(g_strchug(output));
 39if (strlen(name) == 0) {  /* - !!! SUSPICIOUS !!! */
 40  logwrite(LOG_ALERT, only whitespace connection name\n);
 41  name = NULL;
 42} else {
 43  name = g_strdup(output);
 44}
 45  } else {
 46logwrite(LOG_ALERT, nothing read from pipe %s\n, pipe);
 47name = NULL;
 48  }

Thanks for this excellent bug report!

I'm deeply ashamed for this bug. The length must get determined from
`output' instead of `name'. Unfortunately, the bug appeared during a
by-hand code transfer, sorry. Next time I better create a patch and
apply it, even for few lines.

Bug#532805: dh_auto_build: prevents make jobs from being run simultaneously

2009-06-14 Thread Jakub Wilk

* Joey Hess jo...@debian.org, 2009-06-13, 20:43:

make relies on submakes being called via $(MAKE) in the make file in
order to support parallel builds. Since the rules file runs a submake
via a debhelper command, even though that command then runs $MAKE,
make will not do its parallel magic (specifically, it won't leave
the jobserver FDs open when running the debhelper command). You can
see the same result with this simple case:

build: foo bar

foo:
echo foo
bar:
echo bar

FAKE=$(MAKE)
debian_rules_build:
$(FAKE)

If you run 'make -j2 debian_rules_build', it will not parallelize.
If the last line is changed to use $(MAKE), it will.
Or, you can change it to +$(FAKE); this causes make to treat the line
as a sub-make invocation.

So, there's nothing debhelper can do to help here; it's up to your rules
file.

Thanks for clarification.

If you want to work around this make limitation, you will have to
ensure your rules file calls $(MAKE) directly, with something like this:

override_dh_auto_build:
$(MAKE)

Well, that looks promising but does not actually fix anything.

Or, modify the call to dh_auto_build or dh to be prefixed with a +:

%:
+dh $@

That one is fine, thanks.

Maybe examples in /usr/share/doc/debhelper/examples/ and dh(1) should be
fixed to take this issue into consideration?

* Package is orphaned. (Orphaned in Dec 2007).
* Package is buggy.

Your commitment should solve 4 of those.

 thanks for your verbose changelog entry (0.2), and due to it, I'm
 wondering whether you aren't lacking a dependency (or a recommendation)
 on lsb-release (probably versioned). AFAICT you only depend on
 python-apt, which in turn depend on lsb-releae, with no version info. So
 you probably won't pull in the “recent” lsb-release (= 3.2-21 AFAICT)
 package you could take advantage of, I think.

When looking for a distributor's ID, the code tries the lsb_release
module, the lsb_release command, the /etc/lsb-release file in order
until one is found, falling back to just Debian.

Therefore the package is not strictly necessary for operation. OTOH
lsb-release is not a large package (especially compared to such
dependency as python) so the main downside of depending on its given
version would be the additional (small) obstacle/confusion with
backporting apt-forktracer to older/other distros.

So I think a versioned Recommends: should be fine. I'll add it on next
upload.

Bug#532656: [Pkg-octave-devel] Bug#532656: octave3.2_3.2.0-1(mips/unstable): FTBFS on mips. Segfault in regression test.

2009-06-14 Thread Rafael Laboissiere
* Rafael Laboissiere raf...@debian.org [2009-06-13 09:15]:

 So, even if log2 returns a wrong value, the bug happens elsewhere. At any
 rate, the following works as expected:

 complex (NaN, NaN)
 complex (0, NaN)
 complex (NaN, Inf)

 I am puzzled with this problem and I cannot really debug it, since I am
 not versed in GDB. The bug arises at line 1442 of pr-output.cc, in
 function pr_complex():

 pr_imag_float (os, i, i_fw);

I think I found the culprit but I am stuck with the debugging (see
below). If I set a breakpoint at line 703 of pr-output.cc, I see the
following when I launch complex(NaN,0) at the octave prompt under gdb:

Breakpoint 4, set_complex_format (x_max=2147483647, x_min=0,
r_x=2147483647, inf_or_nan=true, int_only=0,
r_...@0x7facdd70, i_...@0x7facdd74) at pr-output.cc:703
703   int prec = Voutput_precision;

On my amd64 system I see the following, instead:

Breakpoint 6, set_complex_format (x_max=0, x_min=-2147483648,
r_x=-2147483648, inf_or_nan=true, int_only=0,
r_...@0x7fffd1dd6afc, i_...@0x7fffd1dd6af8) at pr-output.cc:703
703   int prec = Voutput_precision;

I think that the different values of x_max and x_min explain the bug on
the mips system. I guess that this is caused by the following lines in
pr-output.cc (function set_format):

  int x_max = max_abs == 0.0

? 0 : static_castint (floor (log10 (max_abs) + 1.0));

  int x_min = min_abs == 0.0

? 0 : static_castint (floor (log10 (min_abs) + 1.0));

However, I cannot debug the problem because the variables are not
visible from gdb and many things seem to be inlined.

Would it be possible to write a simple C++ test program that would expose
the problem on mips?

 Note that the values didn't change much, but the german locale uses a

Looks like the same problem as in #509359.

Bug#533052: pidgin crashes when XMPP server SSL cert is self-signed

2009-06-14 Thread Stefan Sperling
Package: pidgin
Version: 2.4.3-4lenny2
Severity: important

See upstream bug http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/7013
there's a patch there, too.

Note that this is *NOT* the problem related to libxml which
has been reported oh so many times already. That is unrelated
and was tracked by upstream in http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/8830

Rather, it's a problem with 25_ssl-nss.patch which was
applied in this change:

 -- Ari Pollak a...@debian.org  Tue, 24 Sep 2008 20:48:03 -0400

pidgin (2.4.3-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Apply patch from Miron Cuperman to fix path to CA certificates in
00_debian-ca-certs.path
  * debian/patches/25_ssl-nss.patch:
- Apply patch from upstream to add SSL certificate checking to the NSS
  plugin, which we use (CVE-2008-3532) (Closes: #492434)

I got that exact same trace as in the upstream bug report on Lenny
when trying to connect to an XMPP server using a self-signed SSL certificate,
ending in strcmp() called by x509_signed_by() in the ssl-nss code.

Dropping the upstream patch which I quote below into
debian/patches/33_ssl-nss-self-signed-crash.patch
and rebuilding the package and reinstalling piding
and libpurple from the resulting packages fixed the problem for me.

Hi Kapil,

This bug has been fixed[1] upstream and the fix will be available in the
next release (0.3.0). This new release is almost a complete rewrite of
the core of WeeChat. Some release candidates will be avalable soon and
we will upload them to experimental.

 This is mostly okay on a Debian system, because the presumption is that
 CC=gcc, but we can never be sure of what parallel compilers, etc. someone
 might run, so it would be desirable for class/langcore.mk to set CC=gcc is
 it is unset.

Do you have a concrete counterexample where the current code does not work?

Ah, I see. That does explain the speed difference between the monitors.
I take it that xv does not use the 3D engine then.

I'll have to go hunting for a new (AGP) videocard, then. And fall back
to using one monitor in the meantime.

 Due current architectural limitations,
 the max size is per-desktop rather than per monitor.
Since I'm thinking about testing the whole kms-thing anyway as soon as
it's in the mainline kernel, is there any chance that the radeon-rewrite
driver does not have this limit?

Thanks for the info,
Arno

Bug#521732: mutt tls_socket_write error -- core,tcpdump,debug

2009-06-14 Thread Antonio Radici
Hi Steven,
I had a look and we are nearly there, unfortunately the debug file does not
contain time/date indication so it is difficult to correlate certain events to
the tcpdump stream; I've opened a CR upstream for this.

The tcpdump file is not showing any sign of connection closure, neither on the
client side or the server side, probably it is incomplete? Can you try to
collect the tcpdump again? this time don't stop it immediately when the
tls_socket_write error happens but wait one or two minutes without doing
anything on mutt, sometimes tcpdump buffers its output.

Additionally it would also be great to have the output of netstat -na | grep
993 when the problem happens and the same output when you stop the tcpdump
stream (1 or 2 minutes after, as I said)

Can you also please provide us with your tar.gzipped .mutt directory so I can
have a look at your conf (obviously please scramble any sensible data, if any?

So, a summary of what I need
1) a tcpdump stream to your imap server stopped after 2 minutes that the problem
happens, remember not to do anything with mutt in the meantime

2) two files containing the output of netstat -na | grep 993, one taken
immediately when the problem happens, another one taken when you stop tcpdump

3) the content of your ~/.mutt directory (and your .muttrc if any)

Sorry to ask you many things but I want to be extra-sure about what is going on,
so we can fix it quickly.

Cheers
Antonio

 idea to do in Debian as well.

libtoolize -i affects the following files, as far as I can tell: config.guess,
config.sub, install-sh. cdbs already handles the first two, and the last
should be unnecessary to update. So what is the use case?

Bug#531976: bluez: Occasionally the kernel freezes while connecting bluetooth mouse

2009-06-14 Thread George Kiagiadakis
reassign 531976 linux-image-2.6.29-2-amd64
thanks

On Friday 05 of June 2009 14:53:04 George Kiagiadakis wrote:
 This has happened to me twice, one time with a custom 2.6.27 kernel and the
 second time with debian's 2.6.29-2 kernel. The logs don't write anything
 about it. Ask me if you need any further information.

It seems I was wrong about that. I didn't remember well the situation about
the 2.6.27 kernel. In fact the freezes started to occur after I upgraded to
2.6.29.

I discovered this by doing some tests during the past week:
bluez 4.40 + linux 2.6.29 - freezes
bluez 3.36 + linux 2.6.29 - freezes
bluez 4.40 + linux 2.6.27 - ok
bluez 3.36 + linux 2.6.27 - ok
bluez 4.40 + linux 2.6.30 - ok

I am now running the last combination, a custom 2.6.30 kernel and bluez 4.40
and I have no other problems except that the mouse doesn't connect
automatically with the first invocation of hidd (or with bluetooth-applet), but
I can work this around for now.

So, I am reassigning this bug to linux-image-2.6.29-2-amd64 (which is the
kernel that freezes), as this seems to be a kernel bug and will be fixed in
debian when the kernel packagers package linux 2.6.30 or later.

George

Try CXXFLAGS, it will be picked up by configure and used at build time.

 Package: alsa-utils
 Version: 1.0.20-1
 Severity: normal

 Hi,

 /etc/init.d/alsa-utils unconditionally tries to reset the 'pcsp'
 card from sanify_levels(). This is done either when called with the
 'reset' argument to the init script or when restoring fails when
 called with 'start' during the runlevel change
 (e.g. when /var/lib/alsa/asound.state does not yet exist)

 Running a kernel without the pcsp driver this leads to lots of
 error messages. This following snipped is from output of

sh -x /etc/init.d/alsa-utils start

I can't reproduce this behavior either with 'none pcsp' kernels nor
with 'pcsp' ones. It seems to be the same problem as described in
#523291. So what shall we have to do?

Elimar

 Notice the version of the package i was referring to which does not have
 your comments. It's usually better to close a bug with a version if it
 is already fixed.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I just exactly uploaded the fixed
package around the time I wrote my message.

 Which i'm not fully agree with because you break
 for example unattended updates that use debconf frontend
 'noninteractive' and --force-confold presumably.

Not sure what --force-confold does, but it sounds like Shooting
yourself in the foot in 5 minutes to me. And if people really prefer
such a setting, they'll probably be fine with such a comment missing.

 Maybe it's better to not use /etc/default/bitlbee at all?

Problem is, how do I still make the port# configurable?

One thing I could do is grep bitlbee.conf for ^DaemonPort= and if it
exists (so without a #) don't supply the -p flag. Getting a bit hackish
now.. but it may be nice to do.

 Isn't ucf capable to handle bitlbee.conf?

Not sure what ucf does, and I'd really prefer to spend the little amount
of time I have on upstream development of BitlBee, not on its packaging.
:-) If you're fluent with ucf and could show me something nifty, I'm
open for patches!

Cheers,

2009-06-14 Thread Adrian Bunk

davfs2 uses libneon27, which is linked with OpenSSL.

This is OK, since it has a proper GPL exception.

But other applications mistakenly linked with libneon27 instead of
libneon27-gnutls without such a GPL exception are a constant source
of GPL violations.

Getting libneon27 phased out in the long term would therefore be
a good thing, and having davfs2 moved would be one step of decreasing
it's usage.

Bug#505328: [Build-common-hackers] Bug#505328: Add support for parallel builds

2009-06-14 Thread Peter Eisentraut
On Saturday 30 May 2009 13:34:12 Felipe Sateler wrote:
 Attached is a patch that gets the number of parallel jobs, and adds support
 for parallel building in the makefile, autotools, qmake, permodule and
 cmake classes.

The problem I see is that probably for a very significant number of packages,
parallel make won't work, meaning the upstream build system isn't robust
enough to support it. So we can't turn this on by default, or we will break
potentially hundreds of packages.

Policy says that the package maintainer should decide whether applying
parallel builds is safe and appropriate for a given package. So the best we
could do, I think, is to add some code for parsing DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS, and make
the user set a variable to enable parallelism, such as

DEB_BUILD_PARALLEL = yes

 PS: why do all these classes override the default DEB_MAKE_INVOKE? This had
 me wondering why it didn't work for a while.

Yeah, it's a bit weird. I applied a small patch to make this easier.

 PPS: I don't think the make invocation should have a +, because if the
 configure stage creates stuff that the makefile needs for running, calling
 debian/rules -n doesn't work anymore (which is the case in cdbs itself).

I think this is actually an artifact of a previous variant of parallel make
support, in which you passed -j from the environment to debian/rules. We can
remove this once we have the new support in place.

Bug#533067: libc6-dev-i386: strange conflicts

2009-06-14 Thread Alexey Salmin

Hello! I can't dist-upgrade my sid distribution

Conflicts: fakechroot (= 2.9-1), fakeroot (= 1.12.2),
fglrx-glx-ia32 (= 1:9-5-1), gnu-efi (= 3.0e-2),
ia32-libs (= 2.7), ...

But 2.7 version of ia32-libs seems to be the newest.

It's also strange that dependencies of libc6-i386 are
different:
sal...@salmin:~$ apt-cache show libc6-i386 | grep -m1 Conflicts
Conflicts: fakechroot (= 2.9-1), fakeroot (= 1.12.2),
fglrx-glx-ia32 (= 1:9-5-1), gnu-efi (= 3.0e-2),
ia32-libs (= 1.5), ...

Looks like a typo or something like that to me.

Bug#471065: problems with the zziplib package of Debian

2009-06-14 Thread LIU Qi
Hi Guido,
I am the new maintainer of zziplib packages of Debian. I packaged the
zziplib version 0.13.54 and found the following problems:

1. The default installation directory of man pages is
   /usr/local/doc/man/man3/man3. I think they should be installed in
   /usr/local/doc/man/man3.
2. In some man pages, for example __zzip_fetch_disk_trailer.3:
   \. make the size of the head bigger
   I think it should be:
   .\ make the size of the head bigger
3. The function definitions in some manpages are so long. They will cause
   the warning of man.

Would you fix them in the next release of zziplib?

Besides, there is also a bug report in the BTS of Debian. The URL is:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=471065
I think the -lz is used by zziplib. Should it be removed?

Thanks for your time. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,
Qi

 - for the default apache2 on lenny, it is necessary to include a port
   number in the Virtualhost directive, e.g. VirtualHost *:80 rather
   than just VirtualHost *

Yes, specifying the port should be bullet proof.

 - the static alias should be moin_static171 and not just static

Using static would of course be much simpler, but it isn't recommended
because it doesn't allow aggressive caching (One can't force the client
to flush cashed pages, when using agressive caching).
Whereas moin_static$VERSION allows using agressive caching.

Thank you for reporting the bug.

 Of course, it could be either cp or strace that have the bug (e.g.
 memory corruption).

If the problem only appears when using strace, it is more likely a bug
in strace. Reassigning the bug.

Bug#505328: [Build-common-hackers] Bug#505328: Add support for parallel builds

  Attached is a patch that gets the number of parallel jobs, and adds
  support for parallel building in the makefile, autotools, qmake,
  permodule and cmake classes.

 The problem I see is that probably for a very significant number of
 packages, parallel make won't work, meaning the upstream build system isn't
 robust enough to support it. So we can't turn this on by default, or we
 will break potentially hundreds of packages.

 Policy says that the package maintainer should decide whether applying
 parallel builds is safe and appropriate for a given package. So the best
 we could do, I think, is to add some code for parsing DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS,
 and make the user set a variable to enable parallelism, such as

 DEB_BUILD_PARALLEL = yes

Ehm, my patch does just that. You have to set DEB_ENABLE_PARALLEL_BUILD to
actually enable it. The name is changeable, of course.

Bug#533026: grub2: more straightforward direction in /etc/default/grub

 I think it might be useful to have some slightly more straightforward
 direction in /etc/default/grub. The start of the file currently says:

 # This file is sourced by update-grub, and its variables are propagated
 # to its children in /etc/grub.d/

 It seems to me that that's a bit oblique about the correct way to deal
 with editing that file. How about prefacing that with something like
 this:

 # If you change this file, run 'update-grub' afterwards to update
 # /boot/grub/grub.cfg.

 Thanks,

Thanks Colin, just applied it. Now people can even test the 3-way merge
feature of ucf. Worked fine for me.
But I wonder if we should keep update-grub there or change it to
grub-mkconfig which now actually generates the config.
update-grub is now just a stub arround it.
