Bug#124098: bzip2: bzless: behaves differently as less (as documented)
On Thu, 3 Jan 2002, Antos Andras wrote: Your script can be summarized into this (simplier) script: Yes, I just wanted to keep the generality of the original script. The problem is that the user might already have LESSOPEN defined. I do not think using LESSOPEN is a good idea because it will interfere with the user's LESSOPEN, which might do other things than uncompressing the file. I see. This is a problem. But this idea is in less' man page. Perhaps LESSOPEN could be used at least when it was empty/unset ? Another problem with these scripts is that LESSOPEN is not effective when viewing standard input. We've been using zless for years which overrides LESSOPEN, so what's wrong with doing the identical thing in bzless? If you haven't personally overridden LESSOPEN yourself, then it makes sense to use bzless. If it makes sense to use bzless, then why would you care if bzless overrides LESSOPEN? FWIW, on my own systems, I just copied zless, changed gzip to bzip2 and was happy. It works. Less behaves like less always behaves. Supply multiple files on the commandline, and you can view them all with :n and :p which you can't do with the normal bzless. -- TimC It's the _target_ that supposed to go F00F, not the processor. -- Mike Andrews, on Pentiums in missiles -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#533037: gnome-terminal: Incorrectly positions cursor when printing to lower right corner
Package: gnome-terminal Version: 2.22.3-3 Severity: minor First of all, I'm not sure if this bug is in gnome-terminal or really in some other package. Please reassign if needed. When running aptitude in gnome-terminal, many of the progress counters in the lower right corner (which should be counting from 0 to 100%) are shifted one character, probably because of the strange cursor handling that the lower right corner needs (delayed scrolling). Some numbers are correctly printed, but some are shifted one character to the right, so it looks something like this (through time): 0% 10% 120 130 This assumes that it should have been counting in steps of 10%. This is a serious bug since, as explained, your package is unusable without a new 'Depends' item. Please fix it and we will be done. Bug#525769: mirror submission for mirrors.ucr.ac.cr
Hello, We have not been in touch since around 3 weeks now. Since your mirror cannot be added as is (outdated for more than week as of today), please find hereafter a couple of questions / remarks. We don't get now the iso images, we download only the jigdo and torrent files now. Considering getting the netinst and businesscard isos, though. The list is mainly used to display a list of mirrors when users can find ISO files. So I suggest you submit an update later in case you mirror ISO files as well. For the moment the biggest files provided by your debian-cd mirror are the ones of debian-live : http://mirrors.ucr.ac.cr/debian-cd/5.0.0-live/i386/usb-hdd/ and http://mirrors.ucr.ac.cr/debian-cd/5.0.0-live/i386/web/ You may want to provide only i386 ISO instead (that may be more useful to Debian users in your country). Anyway, it's up to you, but tell us what you decide. Use a proper source http://debian.org/mirror/ftpmirror#wherefrom (you should use an push-primary or push-secondary mirror, while mirrorservice.org is a leaf) RSYNC_HOST=ftp.ca.debian.org Ok. Pretty heavy usage in work hours (CST), though (UCR has about 4 people). * Not global blockings nor bandwidth limitations (at 4-7 a.m. you can download at about 1.5/2.0 Mbytes/second) * About 6.3 TB disk space free at this moment * All Debian and Debian-Volatile is replicated * Replicating under debian/ and debian-volatile/ * HTTP, FTPand Rsync can be used as stated * Debian and Debian-volatile are replicated with ftpsync running under a dedicated user: user debian por Debian, user debianv for debian-volatile We need to check the freshness for a couple of weeks before giving any ftp.CC.debian.org. Hi Håkon Nessjøen In Debian BTS we have a bugreport regarding the multirow pushing not working [1]. [1] http://bugs.debian.org/402906 Indeed the following example does not work if I pass an 4x3 array: -- #!/usr/bin/perl use Text::ASCIITable; $t = Text::ASCIITable-new(); $t-setCols('one','two','three'); $t-addRow([ [ 1, 2, 3 ], [ 4, 5, 6 ], [ 7, 8, 9 ], [ 0, 0, 0 ] ]); print $t-draw(); -- It produces the following output: Received too many columns at ./ansi-example.pl line 5 .---. | one | two | three | +-+-+---+ '-+-+---' Removing the [0, 0, 0] indeed gives: .---. | one | two | three | +-+-+---+ | 1 | 2 | 3 | | 4 | 5 | 6 | | 7 | 8 | 9 | '-+-+---' The Bugreporter notices that the problem should: The problem is that the check for the right number of columns in addRow() checks the first dimension of the passed array, which is correct if you pass a single row but incorrect if you pass an array of rows. Therefore, this only happens to work if you pass less rows than columns. Could you please have a look into it? Bug#533042: tomboy-latex: Becomes incredibly slow with larger notes
Package: tomboy-latex Version: 0.5-1 Severity: normal Hi! With larger notes tomboy (with LaTeX-plugin enabled) becomes really slow. I can often type whole sentences without any feedback from tomboy (no cursor movement, no charachters appearing, and tomboys windows don't redraw if I drag another window over it). When I'm finished typing and wait for about 30-60 seconds, the typed stuff will appear all at once. My impression is that there is some O(n^2) behaviour there, where n is either the total size of the note or the number of equations in it. A sample note is attached. Bug#521325: ivman replacement
Hi! I googled a bit. ivman development has slowed down to stagnation, so there's a replacement: apt-get install halevt I'm not running the system daemon (START_DAEMON=no in /etc/default/halevt) and simply replaced ivman in my .xsession by halevt. It's pretty much a drop-in replacement, so I don't care about ivman anymore. ;) HTH -- mail: a...@thur.de http://adi.thur.de PGP/GPG: key via keyserver -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#512763: virus download dir in /tmp
tags 512763 moreinfo thanks Hi, The default configuration uses /tmp/dgvirus to download and check downloaded content for viruses. / is often configured with little space, leading to a fragile setup. Relocating this directory to /var/tmp/dgvirus seems like an easy fix, as /var is tipically sized for larger files. Doesn't setting filecachedir to /var/tmp work? Bug#532805: dh_auto_build: prevents make jobs from being run simultaneously
* Joey Hess jo...@debian.org, 2009-06-13, 20:43: make relies on submakes being called via $(MAKE) in the make file in order to support parallel builds. Since the rules file runs a submake via a debhelper command, even though that command then runs $MAKE, make will not do its parallel magic (specifically, it won't leave the jobserver FDs open when running the debhelper command). You can see the same result with this simple case: build: foo bar foo: echo foo bar: echo bar FAKE=$(MAKE) debian_rules_build: $(FAKE) If you run 'make -j2 debian_rules_build', it will not parallelize. If the last line is changed to use $(MAKE), it will. Or, you can change it to +$(FAKE); this causes make to treat the line as a sub-make invocation. So, there's nothing debhelper can do to help here; it's up to your rules file. Thanks for clarification. If you want to work around this make limitation, you will have to ensure your rules file calls $(MAKE) directly, with something like this: override_dh_auto_build: $(MAKE) Well, that looks promising but does not actually fix anything. Or, modify the call to dh_auto_build or dh to be prefixed with a +: %: +dh $@ That one is fine, thanks. Maybe examples in /usr/share/doc/debhelper/examples/ and dh(1) should be fixed to take this issue into consideration? -- Jakub Wilk -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#532746: apt-forktracer: Probably lacks a dependency on lsb-release?
retitle 532746 add recommends on lsb-release tag 532746 +confirmed thanks On Thu, Jun 11, 2009 at 11:16:53AM +0200, Cyril Brulebois wrote: thanks for your verbose changelog entry (0.2), and due to it, I'm wondering whether you aren't lacking a dependency (or a recommendation) on lsb-release (probably versioned). AFAICT you only depend on python-apt, which in turn depend on lsb-releae, with no version info. So you probably won't pull in the “recent” lsb-release (= 3.2-21 AFAICT) package you could take advantage of, I think. When looking for a distributor's ID, the code tries the lsb_release module, the lsb_release command, the /etc/lsb-release file in order until one is found, falling back to just Debian. Therefore the package is not strictly necessary for operation. OTOH lsb-release is not a large package (especially compared to such dependency as python) so the main downside of depending on its given version would be the additional (small) obstacle/confusion with backporting apt-forktracer to older/other distros. So I think a versioned Recommends: should be fine. Bug#532656: [Pkg-octave-devel] Bug#532656: octave3.2_3.2.0-1(mips/unstable): FTBFS on mips. Segfault in regression test.
* Rafael Laboissiere raf...@debian.org [2009-06-13 09:15]: So, even if log2 returns a wrong value, the bug happens elsewhere. At any rate, the following works as expected: complex (NaN, NaN) complex (0, NaN) complex (NaN, Inf) I am puzzled with this problem and I cannot really debug it, since I am not versed in GDB. The bug arises at line 1442 of pr-output.cc, in function pr_complex(): pr_imag_float (os, i, i_fw); I think I found the culprit but I am stuck with the debugging (see below). If I set a breakpoint at line 703 of pr-output.cc, I see the following when I launch complex(NaN,0) at the octave prompt under gdb: Breakpoint 4, set_complex_format (x_max=2147483647, x_min=0, r_x=2147483647, inf_or_nan=true, int_only=0, r_...@0x7facdd70, i_...@0x7facdd74) at pr-output.cc:703 703 int prec = Voutput_precision; On my amd64 system I see the following, instead: Breakpoint 6, set_complex_format (x_max=0, x_min=-2147483648, r_x=-2147483648, inf_or_nan=true, int_only=0, r_...@0x7fffd1dd6afc, i_...@0x7fffd1dd6af8) at pr-output.cc:703 703 int prec = Voutput_precision; I think that the different values of x_max and x_min explain the bug on the mips system. I guess that this is caused by the following lines in pr-output.cc (function set_format): int x_max = max_abs == 0.0 ? 0 : static_castint (floor (log10 (max_abs) + 1.0)); int x_min = min_abs == 0.0 ? 0 : static_castint (floor (log10 (min_abs) + 1.0)); However, I cannot debug the problem because the variables are not visible from gdb and many things seem to be inlined. Would it be possible to write a simple C++ test program that would expose the problem on mips? -- Rafael -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#487546: [Build-common-hackers] Bug#487546: cdbs: class/langcore.mk should set CC=gcc if CC is not set
On Sunday 22 June 2008 18:11:39 Martin-Éric Racine wrote: class/langcore.mk sets -g -Wall -O2 without checking whether CC can actualy process these options. For instance, -g produces output that is partially GDB-specific. On most GNU software, autotools perform these check for us and set CC=gcc autogamically. On other software, CC is often left unset. This is mostly okay on a Debian system, because the presumption is that CC=gcc, but we can never be sure of what parallel compilers, etc. someone might run, so it would be desirable for class/langcore.mk to set CC=gcc is it is unset. Bug#532926: xserver-xorg-video-ati: XRandR multi-monitor: slowness on one screen, acceleration on the other
Alex Deucher wrote: Rotation uses the 3D engine so the largest desktop size that can be rotated with hardware is limited to the max texture size: 2048x2048 for your card. For desktops larger than that, software is used for rotation. 1280 + 1920 2048. Ah, I see. That does explain the speed difference between the monitors. I take it that xv does not use the 3D engine then. I'll have to go hunting for a new (AGP) videocard, then. And fall back to using one monitor in the meantime. Due current architectural limitations, the max size is per-desktop rather than per monitor. Since I'm thinking about testing the whole kms-thing anyway as soon as it's in the mainline kernel, is there any chance that the radeon-rewrite driver does not have this limit? Bug#521732: mutt tls_socket_write error -- core, tcpdump, debug
Hi Steven, I had a look and we are nearly there, unfortunately the debug file does not contain time/date indication so it is difficult to correlate certain events to the tcpdump stream; I've opened a CR upstream for this. The tcpdump file is not showing any sign of connection closure, neither on the client side or the server side, probably it is incomplete? Can you try to collect the tcpdump again? this time don't stop it immediately when the tls_socket_write error happens but wait one or two minutes without doing anything on mutt, sometimes tcpdump buffers its output. Additionally it would also be great to have the output of netstat -na | grep 993 when the problem happens and the same output when you stop the tcpdump stream (1 or 2 minutes after, as I said) Can you also please provide us with your tar.gzipped .mutt directory so I can have a look at your conf (obviously please scramble any sensible data, if any? So, a summary of what I need 1) a tcpdump stream to your imap server stopped after 2 minutes that the problem happens, remember not to do anything with mutt in the meantime 2) two files containing the output of netstat -na | grep 993, one taken immediately when the problem happens, another one taken when you stop tcpdump 3) the content of your ~/.mutt directory (and your .muttrc if any) Sorry to ask you many things but I want to be extra-sure about what is going on, so we can fix it quickly. Bug#531976: bluez: Occasionally the kernel freezes while connecting bluetooth mouse

In fact the freezes started to occur after I upgraded to 2.6.29. I discovered this by doing some tests during the past week: bluez 4.40 + linux 2.6.29 - freezes bluez 3.36 + linux 2.6.29 - freezes bluez 4.40 + linux 2.6.27 - ok bluez 3.36 + linux 2.6.27 - ok bluez 4.40 + linux 2.6.30 - ok I am now running the last combination, a custom 2.6.30 kernel and bluez 4.40 and I have no other problems except that the mouse doesn't connect automatically with the first invocation of hidd (or with bluetooth-applet), but I can work this around for now. So, I am reassigning this bug to linux-image-2.6.29-2-amd64 (which is the kernel that freezes), as this seems to be a kernel bug and will be fixed in debian when the kernel packagers package linux 2.6.30 or later. Notice the version of the package i was referring to which does not have your comments. It's usually better to close a bug with a version if it is already fixed. Sorry, I forgot to mention that I just exactly uploaded the fixed package around the time I wrote my message. Which i'm not fully agree with because you break for example unattended updates that use debconf frontend 'noninteractive' and --force-confold presumably. Not sure what --force-confold does, but it sounds like Shooting yourself in the foot in 5 minutes to me. And if people really prefer such a setting, they'll probably be fine with such a comment missing. Maybe it's better to not use /etc/default/bitlbee at all? Problem is, how do I still make the port# configurable? One thing I could do is grep bitlbee.conf for ^DaemonPort= and if it exists (so without a #) don't supply the -p flag. Getting a bit hackish now.. but it may be nice to do. Isn't ucf capable to handle bitlbee.conf? Not sure what ucf does, and I'd really prefer to spend the little amount of time I have on upstream development of BitlBee, not on its packaging. :-) If you're fluent with ucf and could show me something nifty, I'm open for patches! Bug#505328: [Build-common-hackers] Bug#505328: Add support for parallel builds
On Saturday 30 May 2009 13:34:12 Felipe Sateler wrote: Attached is a patch that gets the number of parallel jobs, and adds support for parallel building in the makefile, autotools, qmake, permodule and cmake classes. The problem I see is that probably for a very significant number of packages, parallel make won't work, meaning the upstream build system isn't robust enough to support it. So we can't turn this on by default, or we will break potentially hundreds of packages. Policy says that the package maintainer should decide whether applying parallel builds is safe and appropriate for a given package. So the best we could do, I think, is to add some code for parsing DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS, and make the user set a variable to enable parallelism, such as DEB_BUILD_PARALLEL = yes PS: why do all these classes override the default DEB_MAKE_INVOKE? This had me wondering why it didn't work for a while. Yeah, it's a bit weird. I applied a small patch to make this easier. PPS: I don't think the make invocation should have a +, because if the configure stage creates stuff that the makefile needs for running, calling debian/rules -n doesn't work anymore (which is the case in cdbs itself). I think this is actually an artifact of a previous variant of parallel make support, in which you passed -j from the environment to debian/rules. We can remove this once we have the new support in place. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#471065: problems with the zziplib package of Debian
Hi Guido, I am the new maintainer of zziplib packages of Debian. I packaged the zziplib version 0.13.54 and found the following problems: 1. The default installation directory of man pages is /usr/local/doc/man/man3/man3. I think they should be installed in /usr/local/doc/man/man3. 2. In some man pages, for example __zzip_fetch_disk_trailer.3: \. make the size of the head bigger I think it should be: .\ make the size of the head bigger 3. The function definitions in some manpages are so long. They will cause the warning of man. Would you fix them in the next release of zziplib? Besides, there is also a bug report in the BTS of Debian. The URL is: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=471065 I think the -lz is used by zziplib. Should it be removed? Thanks for your time. Looking forward to hearing from you. Bug#505328: [Build-common-hackers] Bug#505328: Add support for parallel builds
El domingo 14 de junio, Peter Eisentraut escribió: On Saturday 30 May 2009 13:34:12 Felipe Sateler wrote: Attached is a patch that gets the number of parallel jobs, and adds support for parallel building in the makefile, autotools, qmake, permodule and cmake classes. So the best we could do, I think, is to add some code for parsing DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS, and make the user set a variable to enable parallelism, such as DEB_BUILD_PARALLEL = yes Ehm, my patch does just that. You have to set DEB_ENABLE_PARALLEL_BUILD to actually enable it. The name is changeable, of course. Saludos, Felipe Sateler signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.

The start of the file currently says: # This file is sourced by update-grub, and its variables are propagated # to its children in /etc/grub.d/ It seems to me that that's a bit oblique about the correct way to deal with editing that file. How about prefacing that with something like this: # If you change this file, run 'update-grub' afterwards to update # /boot/grub/grub.cfg. Thanks, Thanks Colin, just applied it. Now people can even test the 3-way merge feature of ucf. Worked fine for me.
