Bug#573214: locales: sv_SE.ISO8859-1 locale suddenly invalid(?)

2010-03-10 Thread Peter Krefting

Hi!

The settings are correct, but it looks like the locales generation has
failed last time the package has been installed. Could you try to run
dpkg-reconfigure locales, and send the possible error messages that
happens during locales generation?

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I did run that to make sure, and the
problem remained.

I see the same problem on another of my machines, also running Lenny, but
this time i386 instead of amd64.

It checks for POLLIN (aka for readable things) before writing the

Oh, and the timeout error should include the port, otherwise it is
impossible to distinguish two backends on the same ip.

In 2.3.33 aufs does not work and it is not mentioned in the config file,
not even as disabled.

This means debian-live cannot boot from 2.6.33.

This is a regression since 2.6.32 which included in-kernel aufs.

aufs is a dirty hack and we will not support it beyond squeeze. Valerie
Aurora is working on union mounts which should go upstream in time for
squeeze+1.

This means no live CDs for testing KMS and other new stuff that might
pop up eventually.

Oh well.

Hope that the new union fs solution goes well and lasts a bit longer ;-)

Thanks

Bug#546586: Re: Bug#546586: xorg: X server lockup in int10 when booting a secondary card

2010-03-10 Thread Mader, Alexander (N-MSR)

Hello Cyril,

some more remarks ;-)

Am 20:59, schrieb Mader, Alexander (N-MSR):

The configuration is as described in

http://...

The configuration is archived in the first email of this bug report as well.

The restart with the upgraded packages gave me the GDM login screen. I
was able to logon successfully but everything was a bit slow. The reason
for this was that *everything* was *simultaneously* on *both* seats! In
other words a separate login was not possible any more. Finally both X
server froze at some point.

As mentioned in my last post the single X server grabs all the input
devices although there are explicitly configured ones. In the log this
can be found when the events 2 and 4 are registered in addition to the
configured ones (3 and 5).

Is the observation of simultaneous logins just the result of all input
devices being automatically registered with all X servers? In other
words: Did I really login with both X servers? Would effectively
separating the input devices allow distinct logins again? If so, how
could I achieve this?

I could not find anything at the end of the
Xorg*log files but will send them asap.

Unfortunately, I deleted one of the logs during my experiments. So I
have to reproduce the dual seat stuff :-( I am sorry, please, stay tuned ;-)

Best regards,

Bug#573264: Hangcheck timer elapsed... is back with i915 + 2.6.33

2010-03-10 Thread Adrian von Bidder
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.9.1-2
Severity: Important
Justification: Frequent crashes on specific hardware

Heyho!

Opening a new bug since errors are slightly different from what I've seen
reported with earlier kernel/X.

Symptom:
X suddenly goes black during some (unspecified) actions (opening menus,
resizing windows, ...); this time instead of a mouse counter there is a text
cursor (non-blinking underline) top left of the screen.

Changing to text console is not possible. ssh is fine, restarting X is not
possible.

Messages:
dmesg ends with:

kernel is 2.6.33-1~experimental.2
X is 2:1.7.5-1 (xserver-xorg-core); rest of the system is a fairly up to

Now trying with mem=400M (on a 512M box) - this didn't get us anywhere.

Compositing was disabled. Enabling compositing gets us this crash
immediately instead only sporadically.

Bug#571679: texlive-latex-recommended: should include ucs.sty

2010-03-10 Thread Robert Helgesson
Thank you for the reply,

 Did you try
   \usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}
which is possible without -extra? Does this suffice?

Unfortunately no. In my code, which works OK with texlive version
2009-7, I have

  \usepackage{ucs}
  \usepackage[utf8x]{inputenc}

Changing this to read only

  \usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}

will cause the following error:

ERROR: Package inputenc Error: Unicode char \u8:∩ not set up for use
  with LaTeX.

  --- TeX said ---

See the inputenc package documentation for explanation.
Type H return for immediate help.
   ...

  l.30 $A$ of $Y$ is closed in $Y$ if $A=C∩
Y$ for some closed set $C$
 in $X$.

So it halts with error when hitting the character '∩', the first
non-ascii character in the file. Declaring the character manually
using

  \DeclareUnicodeCharacter{2229}{\cap}

Made this error go away (instead it complains about the next
undeclared character). But I'd rather not have to manually declare
all the ones I use when they are already handled by the ucs package.

Best Regards,

/Robert

Package: libraptor1
Version: 1.4.21-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

Today a routine aptitude safe-upgrade wanted to install a whole bunch of new
packages, including raptor-utils, a package which I do not want on my system.

It turns out that this happened because the new version of
gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad depends on libraptor1. Please demote the raptor-utils
package to a Suggests.

Cheers,
Fabian

Bug#573269: pidgin segfaults upon startup since gst-plugins-bad0.10 version 0.10.18-1

2010-03-10 Thread Andres Mejia
Package: pidgin
Version: 2.6.6-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Since the upload of gst-plugins-bad0.10 version 0.10.18-1, pidgin segfaults
upon startup. Message on the command line is:

$ pidgin

ERROR: Caught a segmentation fault while loading plugin file:
/usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstlv2.so

Please either:
- remove it and restart.
- run with --gst-disable-segtrap and debug.

A workaround is to remove the file in question.
$ ln -sf /dev/null /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstlv2.so

Not sure if this is a problem with pidgin, or really with the new version of
gst-plugins-bad0.10.

Bug#573268: Monitor swich crashes plasma.

2010-03-10 Thread Robert David
Package: kdebase-workspace-bin
Version: 4:4.3.4-3
Severity: normal

This problem occurs only when I have notebook with external monitor
turned on.
Disconnect the monitor manualy (unplug cable) and than use shortcut to
set the system (xrandr --output VGA0 --off --output LVDS0 --auto).

How it looks like after crash? I got 2 panels, the one that is full-size
stay ok. The other which is small and placed on left side (only for
quick launch)
loose all its settings (move up from center, set to always visible from
windows can
get over). Kradnrtray restarts and loose a lot of its content. To solve
this I logout/login and set the small panel back to its correct
settings.

Also important is that the resolution of both displays is different:
1024x600 vs 1280x1024. And it is not new bug, it does in all versions of
KDE 4 i used. Since 4.2.x

There is no problem when external monitor is pluged in. I can swich
LVDS/VGA without problems/crashes.

Reproduce: Plugin external monitor to notebook. Swich the output to it
(xrandr --output VGA0 --auto --output LVDS0 --off). Unplug the monitor
and swich back to LVDS.

Bug#573272: transition: ruby1.9 - ruby1.9.1

2010-03-10 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: transition

Hi,

In squeeze, we plan to ship two ruby versions:
- 1.8(.7.249): current stable branch, used by most packages/applications
- 1.9.1: development branch, already declared stable by upstream
developers, but not considered as such by most ruby users

Most of the packages have already been transitioned (see
http://wiki.debian.org/Ruby191Transition and
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?tag=ruby190transition;users=debian-r...@lists.debian.org),
but some packages haven't migrated to testing yet.

What needs to happen is:
- remove the ruby1.9 source package from testing.
- make sure all the library packages have been transitioned and migrated
  to testing.

The following UDD query gives the source packages that provide
ruby1.9(.1) packages and have different versions in testing and
unstable:
select unst.source, unst.version as unstable, test.version as testing from
(select * from sources_uniq where distribution='debian' and release='sid') unst
left join (select * from sources_uniq where distribution='debian' and
release='squeeze') test
on unst.source = test.source
where unst.source in (select source from packages
where distribution='debian' and release='sid'
and package ~ 'ruby1.9' or depends ~ 'ruby1.9')
and (test.version is null or test.version != unst.version);

How do you want to proceed?

I could provide migration hints for those packages, so we don't have to wait
for the 10 days delay, and also a removal hint for ruby1.9.

Bug#573274: pyquery: Please provide an upstream changelog

2010-03-10 Thread Jonathan Wiltshire
Package: pyquery
Version: 0.5-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

Please consider providing a changelog for the releases of pyquery. A changelog
would enable downstream packagers, users and other developers to see what's
changed in a release and assess whether they need to make any changes of their
own (for example, if the pyquery interface were to change).

Thanks.

Bug#573276: Acquire::http::No-Cache for only index files

2010-03-10 Thread jidanni
Package: apt
Version: 0.7.25.3
Severity: wishlist
File: /usr/share/man/man5/apt.conf.5.gz

The man page says

Three settings are provided for cache control with HTTP/1.1
compliant proxy
caches. No-Cache tells the proxy to not use its cached response
under any
circumstances, Max-Age is sent only for index files and tells the
cache to refresh
its object if it is older than the given number of seconds. Debian
updates its
index files daily so the default is 1 day. No-Store specifies that
the cache
should never store this request, it is only set for archive files.
This may be
useful to prevent polluting a proxy cache with very large .deb
files. Note: Squid
2.0.2 does not support any of these options.

So apparently these three are
Acquire::http::No-Cache
Acquire::http::Max-Age and
Acquire::http::No-Store .

Well, I know
Acquire::http::No-Cache
works, see bug 564829.

However Acquire::http::Max-Age doesn't seem to have any effect when
apt-get update run is viewed with tcpflow.

apt-config dump shows
APT::Acquire::Max-Default-Age ;
APT::Acquire::Max-Default-Age::Debian-Security 7;
but these apparently are unrelated undocumented items.

Anyway, what I want, for bug 564829, is a way to say
Acquire::http::No-Cache true for non-debs, and false for debs.

I could try
Acquire::http::Max-Age 3600 if it worked.

Well, I've now done the work and committed it to svn. You can test it

Thanks! I'll try the experimental upload as soon as it appears.

By the way, in trying to convert things over to UUIDs, you might want to

Bug#573277: Assertion error in pdsh when using genders

2010-03-10 Thread Arne Nordmark
Package: pdsh
Version: 2.16-1
Severity: normal

Running pdsh using a /etc/genders file results in an assertion error:

kaipak[nordmark]~ pdsh -a uptime
pdsh: list.c:288: list_count: Assertion `l != ((void *)0)' failed.
pdsh: list.c:288: list_count: Assertion `l != ((void *)0)' failed.

Running with an explicit list instead works:

kaipak[nordmark]~ pdsh -w`nodeattr -c ~nonexistentattr` -R ssh uptime

(is there a better way to get all hosts in /etc/genders?)

The funny thing is that the assertion error in only seen when the pdsh
command is run from certain hosts (all running up-to-date lenny). It
is however consistent, in that the error occurs on a particular host
either all the time, or never.

The error does not seem to depend on the contents of the /etc/genders
file. Even a single line like:
hostname pdsh_rcmd_type=ssh
triggers the error. The command nodeattr -k shows no error in the
/etc/genders file.

Recompiling the 2.18-5 version from sid shows no change in this behavior.

Bug#552000: packaging RawTherapee

2010-03-10 Thread Ludovico Cavedon
Hi,
I am interested in this project, and willing to help
packaging/sponsoring it, if needed.

I was that there are some licensing issues because of unknown license
files. We do not need every file to have a license statement at the
beginning before releasing the package (even though it would
preferable). At least we need to make sure we know all license for every
file. It is usually possible to track them to the original source.

I suggest working on a debian/copyright file, gather as mush info as
possible, and than tell upstream what is missing.

Have you considered placing the work you have done so far on a source
revision control on alioth (e.g. git.debian.org)?

I could than help with that.

Thanks,
Ludovico

Bug#549094: wodim: intermittent CHECK CONDITION followed by fixating

2010-03-10 Thread Ilguiz Latypov
Package: wodim
Version: 9:1.1.10-1
Severity: normal

Perhaps, my issue is related. I am getting intermittent no error
errors displaying status: 0x02 (CHECK_CONDITION).

I suspect that an extra resid: 28 in addition to a regular resid: 8 is an
early indicator of the trouble.

As a result, the blank DVD-R disk gets its session closed and I cannot
use it for my single-session burning.

I am including a failure log. After making a coaster of 2 blank
disks, I then got the burning succeed. I include the log of the
successful cdrecord invocation after the failure log. I think both
wodim and cdrecord suffer from the intermittent failure I am describing.

I would keep it in extra.

Please don't make such a fuss about experimental.

I do not intend to make a fuss.
When I invoked reportbug, I carefully looked into the
description of severities, and the description for grave is
grave : makes the package in question unusable by most or all users
and moreover reportbug clarifies that the justification to choose is
renders package unusable : renders the package unusable, [...]
; or renders package uninstallable [...]
and this is exactly the case. If you do not like the severity
descriptions, then you should complain to people who are in charge of
them.

this package depends on linux-kbuild-2.6.33 that though does not exist

(this is problematic for me, since my video card is not supported

 Why aren't you using nouveau?

FYI, because my chipset is 9400M, and nouveau is not supporting it yet.
9400M is the chipset used in Apple MacBooks; so this is a high
priority bug at
http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18638
but it is also 2 years old and unfixed.

And, BTW, the vesa X driver presents a blurred screen that really
sucks, texts are hardly readable.

Bug#569091: Uses obsolete V4L1 API

   4) Testing is a bit difficult for me with my cheap webcam, since
   it
doesn't support many functions; IIUIC some stuff expects a TV
  card
I'll try the package on the eee and see if it works.

The sample scripts give more-or-less same results as you reported, but
the led on the camera never lits, which makes me wonder if anything is
ever fetched from the camera.

Maybe the test scripts die too early when no tuner is found, maybe
they are targetted at tv-tuner cards.

Upon moving the eeepc between rooms, I unplugged it from the wall,
upon which the screen glitched up severely and random screeching
sounds played over the headphones. I eventually had to hard reset
 the system.

Seems like related to SHE setting change. Which Eee model is that?

Do you get infos back from the camera like in my output? If yes, then

But the question with the LED is good. I admit that I haven't checked

AFAICS some are and some partly. IIRC I tried with a simpler script
some time ago (which I have deleted of course but maybe we can write
up something quickly).

 2010/3/10 Norbert Preining :
  Hi everyone,

  From a Debian bug report:

  - Forwarded message from Decklin Foster -
Somewhere between Lenny and now, ucs.sty was moved from -recommended
to -extra. As UTF-8 support is (I believe) a release goal, I would
  - End forwarded message -

I somehow agree that making inputting utf8 with -recommended would be
a nice thing. I don't want to dig through the dependencies now, but
are there any specific reasons why we moved ucs package to latexextra?

Aside from already mentioned things, ucs also breaks pdf title, author
and keywords. It gets stuff like
 [Pleaseinsert\〰ぐrerenderUnicode{Ž}intopreamble] for every non-ASCII
 character.

To get rid of this behavior, you just have to do what the message suggests (or
read the documentation). This is not the reason why ucs and utf8x should be
avoided; rather, it's the maintenance status, the complexity of the package,
and its failure to work with packages like csquotes.
In princliple, the whole idea of ucs (and also of inputenc) is flawed: The
(pdf)TeX engine is not and will never be Unicode-aware. This is impossible to
fix on the macro level: you need a modern engine (i.e., LuaTeX).

fwiw, the only european language omitted from utf8, afaik, is greek.

as an (indirect) result, i've never actually used utf8.

Are you talking about utf8 or utf8x (≈ ucs) here? The former is part of the
LaTeX kernel; the latter has not been improved since 2004 and is unsupported,
perhaps it should even be added to the l2tabu document. If you want Greek,
Japanese or similar, you probably should not be using pdfTeX at all.

Bug#553206: libc6: Similar fail for %llu on 0x200000-long string of '9's

2010-03-10 Thread Edward Welbourne
OK, I've now built glibc (overnight - it took nearly four hours) in
debug and caught the crash in gdb. We're in ADDW (L_('\0')), right
after the comment /* Convert the number. */ quote src=gdb

(gdb) run
Starting program: /disk/home/eddy/work/mine/toys/sscanferange

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

(gdb) p wp
$4 = 0xbf5fef70 Address 0xbf5fef70 out of bounds
(gdb) p/x wpmax
$5 = 0x40

/quote OK, that sounds like it's probably the problem. Perhaps
alloca can't handle 4MiB allocations ! Unfortunately, its return, in
this case, isn't the NULL checked for. Indeed, ADDW's check for NULL
is pointless - alloca() is not specified to do so:
quote src=man alloca

RETURN VALUE
The alloca() function returns a pointer to the beginning of the
allocated space. If the allocation causes stack overflow,
   program behavior is undefined.

/quote

It's also worth noting that, by the time it comes to this call to
alloca, the code has previously alloca()-ed 0x3fff00 bytes of memory,
since ADDW does a doubling game to get to this point; using realloc
might be more apt. Of course, since this is in read-number code, it
might be better yet for the code to notice it's overflowed, set ERANGE
and simply skip over digits of input until it finds something else,
without any copying. Unfortunately, the code is sufficiently
convoluted that I don't see how to change it to do that ...

For reference: quote src=gdb

(gdb) p *s
$6 = {_flags = -72515583, _IO_read_ptr = 0xb3b7 , _IO_read_end =

is there any proper way to fix that? The config file should keeped there until

The block length for CFB mode was incorrectly coded as 1 all the time.
 It
should be the number of feedback bits expressed in bytes. For CFB1 mode
 set
this to 1 by rounding up to the nearest multiple of 8.

I'm not sure what to do with this, I'll contact upstream about this.

Any news about that bug?

There are more and more packages in unstable depending on the broken
libssl which blocks them from upgrade. I think the problem will get
worse if it is not fixed recently as the used incompatible CFB will hold
any upgrade possibility.

Bug#570917: closed by Stig Sandbeck Mathisen s...@debian.org (Re: Bug#570917: munin-node: APT Plugin does not graph)

2010-03-10 Thread André Roth

On 22.02.2010 12:39, Debian Bug Tracking System wrote:

/usr/share/munin/plugins/apt contains graph no in the config
section, which prevents the graph to be shown. If this is not the
intended behavior, please change to graph yes.

This is the intended behaviour. The apt plugin is mostly designed to
generate warnings. For a good apt graph, please use the apt_all
plugin.

It is not well documented, nor or easy to figure out. I have fixed this
upstream, so munindoc apt will show a pointer to the apt_all plugin.

I'd like to reopen this bug. I tested the apt_all plugin, and I doesn't
fit my needs. I don't want a graph about testing and unstable packages,
I just want a graph like the simple apt plugin is providing.

If the apt plugin is meant to generate warning, why not show the graph ?
The apt_all plugin generates warnings as well.
Why not let the sysadmin choose whether to use the apt or apt_all plugin
? If someone wants to have the apt plugin for warnings without a graph,
he is still able to change the graph option to no (it would be nice is
this would me configurable). IMHO using the apt plugin only for warnings
is not the common use. Shouldn't the munin plugins be graphed by default ?

I would suggest to make the graphing of the apt plugin configurable, and
to set it to yes by default.

What do you think ?

Do you get infos back from the camera like in my output? If yes, then
there should be some kind of communication :)

Yes, some of the scriipts report the camera min/max resolution, model,
etc.

But the question with the LED is good. I admit that I haven't
 checked
yesterday but it worked the last time I checked, and I will have a
 look later today.

It could be something with the my camera too. Cheese takes up to 10
seconds to show the image (after liting the LED).

Maybe the test scripts die too early when no tuner is found, maybe
they are targetted at tv-tuner cards.

AFAICS some are and some partly. IIRC I tried with a simpler script
some time ago (which I have deleted of course but maybe we can write
 up something quickly).

I think we better do. The patch is rather invasice and it would be
nice if we have some prove it actualy improves things :)

I am unlikely to do this soon, unfortunately so help (esp. from people
having dealt with cameras, this includes you gregor (:) is
appreciated!

Bug#516540: libapache-mod-security: please adopt general naming schema

2010-03-10 Thread Christian Kujau
As the bug is still unresolved (and the ticket has been reopened), I've
attached a .diff to be applied to the .orig.tar.gz, so that
dpkg-buildpackage can be used to build the package which in turn will be
named libapache2-mod-security.

The diff is basically just libapache-mod-security_2.5.11-1~bpo50+1.diff.gz
plus the needed modification to change the package name.

Just in case the attachment gets lost, I've put the diff and a mini howto
on: http://nerdbynature.de/bits/BTS-516540/

Bug#573284: mlocate: Use an /etc/default file to pass options to updatedb on the cron.daily script

2010-03-10 Thread Sergio Talens-Oliag
Package: mlocate
Version: 0.22.2-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

For the daily updatedb runs I want to use the default '/etc/updatedb.conf' file
and add some local options on some servers.

I know that I can change the /etc/updatedb.conf file, but that forces me to
edit or review the file on each upgrade, but if you add support for a
/etc/default/updatedb.mlocate file I can add aditional options on this file
and leave the default configuration alone.

I'm attaching a patch that adds support for this; note that I used the
'/etc/default/updatedb.mlocate' name because that is the name of the binary,
but maybe '/etc/default/mlocate' could be a better option.

Thanks in advance,

  Sergio.

utf8 covers (at most) characters represented in latex-standard font

in your case, i would imagine the problem was just that.

analysis of the code of utf8x leads me to suspect that it's not as
robust as that of utf8; since utf8x is not supported, this could in
principle be a problem.

fwiw, the only european language omitted from utf8, afaik, is greek.

Bug#573258: Acknowledgement (xrdp does not reuse existing connections)

2010-03-10 Thread Danny Baumann
Hi,

I think I found the bug. When comparing the type of the new session to
previous ones, different enum namespaces are used:

- The type parameter of session_get_bydata is a SCP_SESSION_TYPE enum
value
- The type item of a single session list item is a SESMAN_SESSION_TYPE
enum value (filled via calls to session_start)

Attached is a patch for that bug which solves the problem for me. Might
also be worth sending upstream, but the upstream bug tracker seems
abandoned.

Bug#573288: RM: gnat-gps [mips] -- RoM; unavailability of buildd servers blocks transition to testing

2010-03-10 Thread Ludovic Brenta

Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-CC: debian-m...@lists.debian.org, m...@buildd.debian.org

The past several attempts at building gnat-gps on mips all failed due
to the buildd admins enforcing a timeout for compilation which is
too short for this package. I have been able to build manually on
a mips machine from the GCC Compile Farm, which took 7.5 hours; but
this machine is now down due to a hardware failure. In addition,
I will not rebuild gnat-gps manually on mips for every upload just
for the sake of this architecture.

The latest upload of gnat-gps (4.3-5) is 12 days old and has been
built successfully on all architectures except mips.

Therefore, please remove gnat-gps from mips; this will allow the latest
upload to migrate to testing.

reassign 490161 src:maint-guide

Hi,

CJK PDF has been problematic and I jst disabled them for this upload of
1.2.15. Sorry.

This 1.2.15 was mostly bug fixes and build code sanitization.

I will make minor bug fixes in 1.2.16.

After that, I am thinking to attack UTF-8 transition. But if it
happens, it should at least build PDF for English.

If I can get this work for PDF, I will enable it. (Japanes is only one
working. ko, zh-cn, zh-tw does not. Oh, since I split maint-guide-zh
into 2 packages, I am reassign it to src:maint-guide opint it works.)

Than DocBook XML/po4a transtion may happen with UTF-8.

3.0 (native) is for native packages only, from dpkg-source(1):
  Format: 3.0 (native)
This format is an extension of the native package format as defined in
the 1.0 format
 and
  Format: 1.0
A source package in this format consists either of a .orig.tar.gz asso-

Hmmm. I see.

If you insist 3.0 (quilt) here, Build-Depends: debhelper (= 7) should
  include quilt. (per http://wiki.debian.org/Projects/DebSrc3.0 )
Where does it say that, from that webpage:

Does a 3.0 (quilt) source package need to build-depend on quilt?
If you drop the quilt usage in debian/rules (patch/unpatch logic), then
   no.

I thougt I heard so too sometime ago. (I must have seen some outdated
howto somewhere.)

Oh, it seems debhelper (= 7) is not good default. Lintian recommend
debhelper (= 7.0.50) which is new enough to support dh syntax well.
I've updated this to 7.0.50, yes as we're using just dh we need to
 increase the depends version.

Also using quilt seem to need some funky make file modification ... I
Using quilt without the 3.0 (quilt) source format you have to. Using
quilt within a 3.0 (quilt) source format you do not need this anymore.

I see where my confusion came from...

But Raphael Hertzog states in http://wiki.debian.org/Projects/DebSrc3.0
So I do not know what dh-make should do.
Not put any of the quilt-specific stuff in. It probably means I need
to remove the quilt flags. The thing is, I'm not sure what you do if
 you want to use dpatch.

I want to remove dpatch section and put some good example to show how
patch series can be added via 3.0 (quilt).

Once we sort these up, main story of maint-guide should be made to use
3.0 (native). Then dpatch section should be replaced with example to
  use 3.0 (quilt) format.
The maint guide should use 3.0 (native) as it's a Debian speicific
native package. The examples should use quilt format.

I see your point. I did use 3.0 (native) for this upload. (Quite
honestly, I only used native format.)

This last one was my big misunderstanding.

If you have good 3.0 (quilt) example with patches to replace dpatch
section, I think we can make 3.0 (quilt) more popular.

The following needs updates.
http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/maint-guide/ch-build.en.html#s-dpatch
http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/maint-guide/ap-pkg-eg.en.html#s-pkg-dpatch

I do not think we need to advocate dpatch anymore.

Osamu

PS: Now discussion is more about maint-guide. dh-make seems to be
fixed for debhelper version issue.

I do not intend to make a fuss.
When I invoked reportbug, I carefully looked into the

grave : makes the package in question unusable by most or all users
and moreover reportbug clarifies that the justification to choose is
renders package unusable : renders the package unusable, [...]

This is correct severity. However, it is not necessary to report every

9400M is the chipset used in Apple MacBooks; so this is a high

Bug#573160: dh-make: Default should be 3.0 (native) (not 3.0 (quilt)) ... or make it selectable

Some 3.0 (quilt) packages with patches: quilt, ftplib, libxml-mini-perl

Many things need an update indeed. Also -i -I are not needed anymore with
3.0 source packages, they are implicit by default.

If package version is not at -0 or -1 Debian revision, you must provide
dpkg-buildpackage command with the -sa option

That's also outdated, -sa is needed if the last changelog entry is not the
first one for the given upstream version.

I do not think we need to advocate dpatch anymore.

Agreed.

PS: Now discussion is more about maint-guide. dh-make seems to be
 fixed for debhelper version issue.

Reassign the bug?

Bug#549121: libslv2-9: abusive Recommends

Just a heads-up that this bug is becoming more important. Today I
stumbled upon it when a routine aptitude safe-upgrade wanted to
install a whole bunch of new packages, including the jackd sound
server, a package which I definitely do _not_ want on my system.

It turns out that this happened because the new version of
gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad (which is installed because gnash
recommends it, which seems reasonable) depends on libslv2-9.

Hi,

libslv2-9 is not directly dependent on jackd ,but libslv2-9 recommends
slv2-jack package which need jackd. Recommends changed to Suggests
is already done in git repo for awhile.

git clone git://git.debian.org/pkg-multimedia/slv2.git

Can somebody upload it for me please?

I don't do stray upload, but I can offer to help maintain the package
if you wish. To be most effective (I am involved in more than 100+
packages) I will want to use CDBS for the packaging, and avoid the
short-form of debhelper v7.

Is it ok that I get more involved: switch from abbrev. dh7 to CDBS and
then (obviously) release?

Kind regards,

 - Jonas

Bug#555743: source package descriptions: subtsvars are not enough

2010-03-10 Thread Stefano Zacchiroli
On Tue, Mar 02, 2010 at 11:05:14AM +0100, Raphael Hertzog wrote:
It would be nice to have support for a Description field in the source
  stanza of debian/control.

So, beside a few notable exceptions, the thread has a bit drifted to a
set of appreciations on the idea of using substvars to factorize out
common parts of package descriptions. I agree it is a nice idea, but it
is not something we need specific support for (unless I'm missing some
glitch we can use it right now) and has several shortcomings:

- Most importantly: it does not solve the infrastructure problem,
i.e. it does not encode properly the source package description so
that it becomes part of package _metadata_. This means that all
infrastructure parts (the PTS, DDPO, UDD, potentially the BTS) are
still at square 0: they don't know where to find a source package
  description.

IOW: it is a cool hack for package maintainers, but it is a hack that
gets resolved at package build time and then vanishes.

- It is not standardized: substvars are set via custom commands in
debian/rules and there are thousands ways of setting them. When
opening a random source package, one would not know where exactly to
look for the common part of source package description. Nor an
  automated tool can extract it.

To fix that, it seems to me that the most reasonable solution advanced
in the thread is to add a proper Description field to source package
stanzas. Then, in addition, we can setup an automatic substvar, whose
content is the source description, that can then be used in package
description stanzas to interpolate the source description.

The obvious drawback is that Sources file will increase in size. Given
that the size will be small compared to Packages file, I personally
don't see it as a showstopper.

The appreciation that translators expressed wrt factorizing out text
from binary package description still applies to this proposal.

Cheers.

Bug#573292: kdebindings: Python (= 2.6) extensions are not installed

2010-03-10 Thread Andreas Marschke
Thats because Python =2.6 isnt officially supported by Debian. There was a
extremely long thread on the debian-devel mailinglist. The problem revolved
around that the python package is currently managed by one person alone who is
currently sort of not really working on it. The last thing I knew about it was
that we might have a group of people maintaining it. Might take a while.

This is obviously the result of rebuilding the package multiple times

You completely misparsed my answer/suggestion. My suggestion is to follow
your advice, add a Description field in the source part of debian/control,
let it flow in the .dsc and Sources _AND_ modify dpkg-gencontrol so that
you can use new default substitution variables to reuse the source
description elsewhere. There would be no need for any custom command
in debian/rules.

To fix that, it seems to me that the most reasonable solution advanced

Bug#573297: openoffice.org-core: should report an error when a required component is not installed

2010-03-10 Thread Ulrich Klauer
Package: openoffice.org-core
Version: 1:3.1.1-16

I tried to open a Word document. After calling
  ooffice x.doc
the OOo splash appeared and disappeared again, then nothing happened. ps
showed a sleeping OOo instance. I tried again calling only
  ooffice
and the welcome screen appeared, allowing me to choose a document to open.
Again, nothing happened; the welcome screen persisted.

While preparing a bug report, I found out that the package
openoffice.org-writer was not installed. After installation, everything
worked as expected.

I think the OOo main binary should show *some* kind of error message or
other information indicating that it won't proceed, due to a required
component not being installed.
