Bug#573214: locales: sv_SE.ISO8859-1 locale suddenly invalid(?)
Hi! The settings are correct, but it looks like the locales generation has failed last time the package has been installed. Could you try to run dpkg-reconfigure locales, and send the possible error messages that happens during locales generation? Sorry, I should have mentioned that I did run that to make sure, and the problem remained. I see the same problem on another of my machines, also running Lenny, but this time i386 instead of amd64. -- \\// Peter - http://www.softwolves.pp.se/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#546586: Re: Bug#546586: xorg: X server lockup in int10 when booting a secondary card
Hello Cyril, some more remarks ;-) Am 20:59, schrieb Mader, Alexander (N-MSR): The configuration is as described in http://... The configuration is archived in the first email of this bug report as well. The restart with the upgraded packages gave me the GDM login screen. I was able to logon successfully but everything was a bit slow. The reason for this was that *everything* was *simultaneously* on *both* seats! In other words a separate login was not possible any more. Finally both X server froze at some point. As mentioned in my last post the single X server grabs all the input devices although there are explicitly configured ones. In the log this can be found when the events 2 and 4 are registered in addition to the configured ones (3 and 5). Is the observation of simultaneous logins just the result of all input devices being automatically registered with all X servers? In other words: Did I really login with both X servers? Would effectively separating the input devices allow distinct logins again? If so, how could I achieve this? I could not find anything at the end of the Xorg*log files but will send them asap. Unfortunately, I deleted one of the logs during my experiments. So I have to reproduce the dual seat stuff :-( I am sorry, please, stay tuned ;-) Best regards, -- Alexander Mader smime.p7s Description: S/MIME Cryptographic Signature

Bug#573268: Monitor swich crashes plasma.
Package: kdebase-workspace-bin Version: 4:4.3.4-3 Severity: normal This problem occurs only when I have notebook with external monitor turned on. Disconnect the monitor manualy (unplug cable) and than use shortcut to set the system (xrandr --output VGA0 --off --output LVDS0 --auto). How it looks like after crash? I got 2 panels, the one that is full-size stay ok. The other which is small and placed on left side (only for quick launch) loose all its settings (move up from center, set to always visible from windows can get over). Kradnrtray restarts and loose a lot of its content. To solve this I logout/login and set the small panel back to its correct settings. Also important is that the resolution of both displays is different: 1024x600 vs 1280x1024. And it is not new bug, it does in all versions of KDE 4 i used. Since 4.2.x There is no problem when external monitor is pluged in. I can swich LVDS/VGA without problems/crashes. Reproduce: Plugin external monitor to notebook. Swich the output to it (xrandr --output VGA0 --auto --output LVDS0 --off). Unplug the monitor and swich back to LVDS. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-fbcondecor (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=cs_CZ.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=cs_CZ.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages kdebase-workspace-bin depends on: ii kaboom 1.1.2The Debian KDE settings migration ii kdebase-runtime 4:4.3.4-2runtime components from the offici ii kdebase-workspace-data 4:4.3.4-3shared data files for the KDE 4 ba ii kdebase-workspace-kgree 4:4.3.4-3KDE greet libraries for authentica ii kdelibs54:4.3.4-3core libraries for all KDE 4 appli ii libc6 2.10.2-6 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libdbus-1-3 1.2.20-2 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libfontconfig1 2.8.0-2 generic font configuration library ii libfreetype62.3.11-1 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgcc1 1:4.4.2-9GCC support library ii libgl1-mesa-glx [libgl1 7.7-4A free implementation of the OpenG ii libglib2.0-02.22.4-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libice6 2:1.0.6-1X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libkephal4 4:4.3.4-3API for easier handling of multihe ii libkfontinst4 4:4.3.4-3Libraries for font installation in ii libknotificationitem-1- 4:4.3.4-1library for new way of handling sy ii libkscreensaver54:4.3.4-3Library of the KDE Screensaver sys ii libkworkspace4 4:4.3.4-3Library for the kdebase workspace ii libnepomukquery44:4.3.4-3Library for the nepomuk search ii libnepomukqueryclient4 4:4.3.4-3Library for the nepomuk client sea ii libpam0g1.1.1-2 Pluggable Authentication Modules l ii libphonon4 4:4.5.3-4Qt 4 Phonon module ii libplasma3 4:4.3.4-3library for the KDE 4 Plasma deskt ii libpng12-0 1.2.43-1 PNG library - runtime ii libpolkit-dbus2 0.9-4library for accessing PolicyKit vi ii libpolkit-grant20.9-4library for obtaining privileges v ii libpolkit-qt0 0.9.3-1 PolicyKit-qt library ii libpolkit2 0.9-4library for accessing PolicyKit ii libprocessui4 4:4.3.4-3Library for ksysguard process user ii libqimageblitz4 1:0.0.4-4QImageBlitz image effects library ii libqt4-dbus 4:4.5.3-4Qt 4 D-Bus module ii libqt4-qt3support 4:4.5.3-4Qt 3 compatibility library for Qt ii libqt4-script 4:4.5.3-4Qt 4 script module ii libqt4-xml 4:4.5.3-4Qt 4 XML module ii libqtcore4 4:4.5.3-4Qt 4 core module ii libqtgui4 4:4.5.3-4Qt 4 GUI module ii libsm6 2:1.1.1-1X11 Session Management library ii libsolidcontrol44:4.3.4-3Library for solid based network ma ii libsolidcontrolifaces4 4:4.3.4-3Library for solid based network in ii libsoprano4 2.4.0.1+dfsg.1-2 libraries for the Soprano RDF fram ii libstdc++6 4.4.2-9 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libstreamanalyzer0 0.7.1-1 streamanalyzer library for Strigi ii libusb-0.1-42:0.1.12-14 userspace USB programming library ii libx11-62:1.3.3-1X11 client-side library ii libxau6 1:1.0.5-1X11 authorisation library ii libxcursor1 1:1.1.10-1 X cursor management library ii libxext6

Bug#573272: transition: ruby1.9 - ruby1.9.1
Package: release.debian.org Severity: normal User: release.debian@packages.debian.org Usertags: transition Hi, In squeeze, we plan to ship two ruby versions: - 1.8(.7.249): current stable branch, used by most packages/applications - 1.9.1: development branch, already declared stable by upstream developers, but not considered as such by most ruby users Most of the packages have already been transitioned (see http://wiki.debian.org/Ruby191Transition and http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?tag=ruby190transition;users=debian-r...@lists.debian.org), but some packages haven't migrated to testing yet. What needs to happen is: - remove the ruby1.9 source package from testing. - make sure all the library packages have been transitioned and migrated to testing. The following UDD query gives the source packages that provide ruby1.9(.1) packages and have different versions in testing and unstable: select unst.source, unst.version as unstable, test.version as testing from (select * from sources_uniq where distribution='debian' and release='sid') unst left join (select * from sources_uniq where distribution='debian' and release='squeeze') test on unst.source = test.source where unst.source in (select source from packages where distribution='debian' and release='sid' and package ~ 'ruby1.9' or depends ~ 'ruby1.9') and (test.version is null or test.version != unst.version); How do you want to proceed? I could provide migration hints for those packages, so we don't have to wait for the 10 days delay, and also a removal hint for ruby1.9. -- | Lucas Nussbaum | lu...@lucas-nussbaum.net http://www.lucas-nussbaum.net/ | | jabber: lu...@nussbaum.fr GPG: 1024D/023B3F4F | -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#573276: Acquire::http::No-Cache for only index files
Package: apt Version: 0.7.25.3 Severity: wishlist File: /usr/share/man/man5/apt.conf.5.gz The man page says Three settings are provided for cache control with HTTP/1.1 compliant proxy caches. No-Cache tells the proxy to not use its cached response under any circumstances, Max-Age is sent only for index files and tells the cache to refresh its object if it is older than the given number of seconds. Debian updates its index files daily so the default is 1 day. No-Store specifies that the cache should never store this request, it is only set for archive files. This may be useful to prevent polluting a proxy cache with very large .deb files. Note: Squid 2.0.2 does not support any of these options. So apparently these three are Acquire::http::No-Cache Acquire::http::Max-Age and Acquire::http::No-Store . Well, I know Acquire::http::No-Cache works, see bug 564829. However Acquire::http::Max-Age doesn't seem to have any effect when apt-get update run is viewed with tcpflow. apt-config dump shows APT::Acquire::Max-Default-Age ; APT::Acquire::Max-Default-Age::Debian-Security 7; but these apparently are unrelated undocumented items. Anyway, what I want, for bug 564829, is a way to say Acquire::http::No-Cache true for non-debs, and false for debs. I could try Acquire::http::Max-Age 3600 if it worked. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

Bug#573277: Assertion error in pdsh when using genders
Package: pdsh Version: 2.16-1 Severity: normal Running pdsh using a /etc/genders file results in an assertion error: kaipak[nordmark]~ pdsh -a uptime pdsh: list.c:288: list_count: Assertion `l != ((void *)0)' failed. pdsh: list.c:288: list_count: Assertion `l != ((void *)0)' failed. Running with an explicit list instead works: kaipak[nordmark]~ pdsh -w`nodeattr -c ~nonexistentattr` -R ssh uptime (is there a better way to get all hosts in /etc/genders?) The funny thing is that the assertion error in only seen when the pdsh command is run from certain hosts (all running up-to-date lenny). It is however consistent, in that the error occurs on a particular host either all the time, or never. The error does not seem to depend on the contents of the /etc/genders file. Even a single line like: hostname pdsh_rcmd_type=ssh triggers the error. The command nodeattr -k shows no error in the /etc/genders file. Recompiling the 2.18-5 version from sid shows no change in this behavior. -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0.4 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-2-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages pdsh depends on: ii debconf [debconf-2.0]1.5.24 Debian configuration management sy ii genders 1.11-1-1cluster configuration management d ii heimdal-clients [rsh-cli 1.2.dfsg.1-2.1 Heimdal Kerberos - clients ii libc62.7-18lenny2GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libgenders0 1.11-1-1C library for parsing and querying ii openssh-client [rsh-clie 1:5.1p1-5 secure shell client, an rlogin/rsh ii perl 5.10.0-19lenny2 Larry Wall's Practical Extraction pdsh recommends no packages. pdsh suggests no packages. -- debconf information: pdsh/setuidroot: false -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#552000: packaging RawTherapee
Hi, I am interested in this project, and willing to help packaging/sponsoring it, if needed. I was that there are some licensing issues because of unknown license files. We do not need every file to have a license statement at the beginning before releasing the package (even though it would preferable). At least we need to make sure we know all license for every file. It is usually possible to track them to the original source. I suggest working on a debian/copyright file, gather as mush info as possible, and than tell upstream what is missing. Have you considered placing the work you have done so far on a source revision control on alioth (e.g. git.debian.org)? I could than help with that. Package: wodim Version: 9:1.1.10-1 Severity: normal Perhaps, my issue is related. I am getting intermittent no error errors displaying status: 0x02 (CHECK_CONDITION). I suspect that an extra resid: 28 in addition to a regular resid: 8 is an early indicator of the trouble. As UTF-8 support is (I believe) a release goal, I would - End forwarded message - I somehow agree that making inputting utf8 with -recommended would be a nice thing. I don't want to dig through the dependencies now, but are there any specific reasons why we moved ucs package to latexextra? Aside from already mentioned things, ucs also breaks pdf title, author and keywords. It gets stuff like [Pleaseinsert\〰ぐrerenderUnicode{Ž}intopreamble] for every non-ASCII character. To get rid of this behavior, you just have to do what the message suggests (or read the documentation). This is not the reason why ucs and utf8x should be avoided; rather, it's the maintenance status, the complexity of the package, and its failure to work with packages like csquotes. In princliple, the whole idea of ucs (and also of inputenc) is flawed: The (pdf)TeX engine is not and will never be Unicode-aware. This is impossible to fix on the macro level: you need a modern engine (i.e., LuaTeX). __ Do You Yahoo!? Sie sind Spam leid? Yahoo! Are you talking about utf8 or utf8x (≈ ucs) here? The former is part of the LaTeX kernel; the latter has not been improved since 2004 and is unsupported, perhaps it should even be added to the l2tabu document. Bug#553206: libc6: Similar fail for %llu on 0x200000-long string of '9's
OK, I've now built glibc (overnight - it took nearly four hours) in debug and caught the crash in gdb. We're in ADDW (L_('\0')), right after the comment /* Convert the number. */ quote src=gdb (gdb) run Starting program: /disk/home/eddy/work/mine/toys/sscanferange Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. 0xb7ee1e81 in _IO_vfscanf_internal (s=0xbfdff2dc, format=0x80485a0 %llu, argptr=0xbfdff3a8 ¸óÿ¿, errp=0x0) at vfscanf.c:1760 (gdb) p wpsize $1 = 2097152 (gdb) p wpmax $2 = 4194304 (gdb) p old $3 = value optimized out (gdb) p wp $4 = 0xbf5fef70 Address 0xbf5fef70 out of bounds (gdb) p/x wpmax $5 = 0x40 /quote OK, that sounds like it's probably the problem. Perhaps alloca can't handle 4MiB allocations ! Unfortunately, its return, in this case, isn't the NULL checked for. Indeed, ADDW's check for NULL is pointless - alloca() is not specified to do so: quote src=man alloca RETURN VALUE The alloca() function returns a pointer to the beginning of the allocated space. If the allocation causes stack overflow, program behavior is undefined. /quote It's also worth noting that, by the time it comes to this call to alloca, the code has previously alloca()-ed 0x3fff00 bytes of memory, since ADDW does a doubling game to get to this point; using realloc might be more apt. Of course, since this is in read-number code, it might be better yet for the code to notice it's overflowed, set ERANGE and simply skip over digits of input until it finds something else, without any copying. Unfortunately, the code is sufficiently convoluted that I don't see how to change it to do that ... For reference: quote src=gdb (gdb) p *s $6 = {_flags = -72515583, _IO_read_ptr = 0xb3b7 , _IO_read_end = 0xb3b7 , _IO_read_base = 0xbfdff3b7 '9' repeats 200 times..., _IO_write_base = 0xbfdff3b7 '9' repeats 200 times..., _IO_write_ptr = 0xbfdff3b7 '9' repeats 200 times..., _IO_write_end = 0xbfdff3b7 '9' repeats 200 times..., _IO_buf_base = 0xbfdff3b7 '9' repeats 200 times..., _IO_buf_end = 0xb3b7 , _IO_save_base = 0x0, _IO_backup_base = 0x0, _IO_save_end = 0x0, _markers = 0x0, _chain = 0x0, _fileno = 0, _flags2 = 16, _old_offset = 0, _cur_column = 0, _vtable_offset = 0 '\000', _shortbuf = , _lock = 0x0, _offset = 3086879200, _codecvt = 0x, _wide_data = 0xb7ffeff4, _freeres_list = 0x0, _freeres_buf = 0xb7fff670, _freeres_size = 3219125120, _mode = -1, _unused2 = (øÿ·p\rþ·\001\000\000\000\001\000\000\000\000\000\000\000U\202\004\b\003\000\000\000\000\000\000\000¨\226\004\b\001\000\000} (gdb) bt #0 0xb7ee1e81 in _IO_vfscanf_internal (s=0xbfdff2dc, format=0x80485a0 %llu, argptr=0xbfdff3a8 ¸óÿ¿, errp=0x0) at vfscanf.c:1760 #1 0xb7ee7a65 in *__GI___isoc99_vsscanf (string=0xbfdff3b7 '9' repeats 200 times..., format=0x80485a0 %llu, args=0xbfdff3a8 ¸óÿ¿) at isoc99_vsscanf.c:44 #2 0xb7ee79bf in __isoc99_sscanf (s=0xbfdff3b7 '9' repeats 200 times..., format=0x80485a0 %llu) at isoc99_sscanf.c:33 #3 0x080484bf in main () at sscanferange.c:13 (gdb) up 3 #3 0x080484bf in main () at sscanferange.c:13 (gdb) p (buf[0]) $8 = 0xbfdff3b7 '9' repeats 200 times... /quote so it's just copied the very last character when this happens. If this is not the intended behavior, please change to graph yes. This is the intended behaviour. The apt plugin is mostly designed to generate warnings. For a good apt graph, please use the apt_all plugin. It is not well documented, nor or easy to figure out. I have fixed this upstream, so munindoc apt will show a pointer to the apt_all plugin. I'd like to reopen this bug. I tested the apt_all plugin, and I doesn't fit my needs. I don't want a graph about testing and unstable packages, I just want a graph like the simple apt plugin is providing. If the apt plugin is meant to generate warning, why not show the graph ? The apt_all plugin generates warnings as well. Why not let the sysadmin choose whether to use the apt or apt_all plugin ? If someone wants to have the apt plugin for warnings without a graph, he is still able to change the graph option to no (it would be nice is this would me configurable). IMHO using the apt plugin only for warnings is not the common use. Shouldn't the munin plugins be graphed by default ? I would suggest to make the graphing of the apt plugin configurable, and to set it to yes by default. What do you think ? It skips .git etc for tar ball so these are improvements. 3.0 (native) is for native packages only, from dpkg-source(1): Format: 3.0 (native) This format is an extension of the native package format as defined in the 1.0 format and Format: 1.0 A source package in this format consists either of a .orig.tar.gz asso- ciated to a .diff.gz or a single .tar.gz (in that case the package is said to be native). Hmmm. I see. If you insist 3.0 (quilt) here, Build-Depends: debhelper (= 7) should include quilt. (per http://wiki.debian.org/Projects/DebSrc3.0 ) Where does it say that, from that webpage: Does a 3.0 (quilt) source package need to build-depend on quilt? If you drop the quilt usage in debian/rules (patch/unpatch logic), then no. I thougt I heard so too sometime ago. (I must have seen some outdated howto somewhere.) Oh, it seems debhelper (= 7) is not good default. Lintian recommend debhelper (= 7.0.50) which is new enough to support dh syntax well. I've updated this to 7.0.50, yes as we're using just dh we need to increase the depends version. Also using quilt seem to need some funky make file modification ... I Using quilt without the 3.0 (quilt) source format you have to. Using quilt within a 3.0 (quilt) source format you do not need this anymore. I see where my confusion came from... But Raphael Hertzog states in http://wiki.debian.org/Projects/DebSrc3.0 So I do not know what dh-make should do. Not put any of the quilt-specific stuff in. It probably means I need to remove the quilt flags. The thing is, I'm not sure what you do if you want to use dpatch. I want to remove dpatch section and put some good example to show how patch series can be added via 3.0 (quilt). Once we sort these up, main story of maint-guide should be made to use 3.0 (native). Then dpatch section should be replaced with example to use 3.0 (quilt) format. The maint guide should use 3.0 (native) as it's a Debian speicific native package. The examples should use quilt format. I see your point. I did use 3.0 (native) for this upload. (Quite honestly, I only used native format.) It turns out that this happened because the new version of gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad (which is installed because gnash recommends it, which seems reasonable) depends on libslv2-9. Hi, libslv2-9 is not directly dependent on jackd ,but libslv2-9 recommends slv2-jack package which need jackd. Bug#555743: source package descriptions: subtsvars are not enough
On Tue, Mar 02, 2010 at 11:05:14AM +0100, Raphael Hertzog wrote: It would be nice to have support for a Description field in the source stanza of debian/control. So, beside a few notable exceptions, the thread has a bit drifted to a set of appreciations on the idea of using substvars to factorize out common parts of package descriptions. I agree it is a nice idea, but it is not something we need specific support for (unless I'm missing some glitch we can use it right now) and has several shortcomings: - Most importantly: it does not solve the infrastructure problem, i.e. it does not encode properly the source package description so that it becomes part of package _metadata_. This means that all infrastructure parts (the PTS, DDPO, UDD, potentially the BTS) are still at square 0: they don't know where to find a source package description. IOW: it is a cool hack for package maintainers, but it is a hack that gets resolved at package build time and then vanishes. - It is not standardized: substvars are set via custom commands in debian/rules and there are thousands ways of setting them. When opening a random source package, one would not know where exactly to look for the common part of source package description. Nor an automated tool can extract it. To fix that, it seems to me that the most reasonable solution advanced in the thread is to add a proper Description field to source package stanzas. Then, in addition, we can setup an automatic substvar, whose content is the source description, that can then be used in package description stanzas to interpolate the source description. The obvious drawback is that Sources file will increase in size. Given that the size will be small compared to Packages file, I personally don't see it as a showstopper. The appreciation that translators expressed wrt factorizing out text from binary package description still applies to this proposal. Thats because Python =2.6 isnt officially supported by Debian. There was a extremely long thread on the debian-devel mailinglist.
