Bug#555695: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the slbackup-php package
Dear maintainer of slbackup-php and Debian translators, Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the slbackup-php Debian package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation update in the BTS. I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization bug as well as all other pending translations. The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in four days, so I will proceed with the NMU. The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail. The package is currently translated to: cs da de es eu fi fr gl ja nl pt ru sv vi Among these, the following translations are incomplete: none If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get ANOTHER mail with the translation to update. Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report against the slbackup-php package so I can incorporate them in the build. The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Thursday, May 20, 2010. If you are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS. The POT file is attached to this mail. If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU and send him/her all updates I receive. Otherwise the following will happen (or already has): Sunday, May 09, 2010 : send the first intent to NMU notice to the package maintainer. Friday, May 14, 2010 : send this notice Thursday, May 20, 2010 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation updates Friday, May 21, 2010 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/7-day send the NMU patch to the BTS Friday, May 28, 2010 : NMU uploaded to incoming Thanks for your efforts and time. -- -- # SOME DESCRIPTIVE TITLE. # Copyright (C) YEAR THE PACKAGE'S COPYRIGHT HOLDER # This file is distributed under the same license as the PACKAGE package. # FIRST AUTHOR em...@address, YEAR. # #, fuzzy msgid msgstr Project-Id-Version: PACKAGE VERSION\n Report-Msgid-Bugs-To: patrick.winne...@skolelinux.org\n POT-Creation-Date: 2007-06-24 01:04+0200\n PO-Revision-Date: YEAR-MO-DA HO:MI+ZONE\n Last-Translator: FULL NAME em...@address\n Language-Team: LANGUAGE l...@li.org\n MIME-Version: 1.0\n Content-Type: text/plain; charset=CHARSET\n Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit\n #. It's a different issue than #581351 and the configure script doesn't run with dash 0.5.4-12 and 0.5.5.1-3 either; posh fails also. The problematic line in the script is 21295 BROWSER_PLUGIN_DIR=${BROWSER_PLUGIN_DIR:-\${libdir}/mozilla/plugins} You can workaround this problem with this patch to parole's ./configure Well, configure files are autogenerated, so that means the problem lies before that. Does that mean autotools generate incorrect configure files, or does that means that particular one is buggy? Or does that mean dash is definitely doing the wrong thing? It seems we have some other packages which will FTBFS with errors in configure too, and I guess a fully archive rebuild would exhibit quite some failures because of that. I'm not finger pointing, but is the dash change really legit? Cheers, -- Yves-Alexis signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

The popcon [0] for these is much higher so the trick will work for more… The Breaks line will just be awful long but customization for architectures shouldn't be needed as all these non-available packages will be pure virtual packages so APT Co. can't care much less about them… The Breaks are just not the ultimate solution: Users without these metapackages (e.g. someone who is used to compiled his own kernel) will get nothing - just as without the Breaks. So udev still needs to fail if no supported kernel is installed. It is just that this is less likely for a default install at least. If that would be a normal package it should be also Breaks the old kernel versions so they get removed from the system - i just don't like the idea of possibly removing the currently running kernel… Also for a working system. There have been enough changes that the old udev will not like the new configuration files and will probably not work much, so the system must be rebooted ASAP after upgrading kernel+udev. So i would even more vote for a note in the release notes. On slow machines upgrades can easily run for an hour or two and/or users tend to do stuff while an upgrade is running in the background so ASAP can have very different definitions… And what does a user have to expect if he doesn't reboot immediately? Could the system freeze for example? If the upgrade would be still running… ++ungood. Best regards, David Kalnischkies [0] http://qa.debian.org/popcon.php?package=linux-latest-2.6 unfortunately the table doesn't include all binary packages, but out of 24621 adm64 popconers 20983 have the linux-image-2.6-amd64 installed… = 85% coverage -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#515392: survex: diff for NMU version 1.0.39.1-2.2
On Thu, May 13, 2010 at 03:47:59AM +0100, Olly Betts wrote: On Wed, May 12, 2010 at 07:26:04PM -0700, tony mancill wrote: Jari made the change because I was getting failures trying to build the package inside a chroot environment, but it didn't affect the build. I ended up unsetting my DISPLAY before the build. I agree that it would be better not to disable the entire test suite; I'll test with your patch. Hmm, it's not good if the package fails to build if DISPLAY is set. It's hard to know what is happening without seeing the error you got, but my best guess is that DISPLAY was set to a value which doesn't work in the build environment. If that was the problem, then the change in the NMU isn't going to help at all, and neither will my patch. OK, I've just tested, and my guess above was essentially correct. But the change in the NMU does actually help, but only because it isn't doing what was intended: - $(MAKE) check + [ ! $DISPLAY ] || $(MAKE) check Since this is a makefile, $DISPLAY is $D followed by the literal text ISPLAY so the shell sees: [ ! ISPLAY ] || $(MAKE) check Which will simply never run the tests. The best way to address this is probably just to ensure DISPLAY isn't set, so we don't try to use an inherited value of DISPLAY which doesn't work in the chroot-ed environment: - $(MAKE) check + $(MAKE) check DISPLAY= I'm tempted to do a general spring clean of the package - there's another open bug and a few lintian warnings. Wookey: OK to add myself as co-maintainer and do that? Cheers, Olly -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#581545: [kfreebsd] netinet/in.h origin issue
There are defined some kernel-specific macroses, e.g. IPPROTO_DIVERT, and some FreeBSD software expect to find it there. But on Debian this header provided by libc, not kfreebsd-kernel-header. And this header could only been found in kfreebsd-headers-$(version) which makes difficult to build-depend on it. I think this should be fixed some way to allow IPPROTO_DIVERT usage in correct way without hacks in sources. Bug#507313: linux-igd: Entries get appended to the PREROUTING table behind a catchall DNAT entry
On Sat, Nov 29, 2008 at 11:51:29PM +0100, Daniel Tryba wrote: Entries get appended to the PREROUTING table, the problem is I have a catchall to create a DMZ. The result is that the upnp rules aren't reachable. The solution is pretty simple with the following patch: Using the forward_rules_append config option to determine if the PREROUTING rule should be inserted at the beginning (-I) or appended (-A) to the table. Sure there is a security risk involved, but so does the prepending of FORWARD rules. Defining a seperate config option to determine the PREROUTING behavior would be a better solution, but this works fine for me (tm). Thanks for the suggestion. I'm going to include this patch on an experimental basis in the version which I'll be uploading soon. If you do need control over where your upnp entries are placed in PREROUTING and FORWARD, though, the suggested way is to create a new chain (forwardUPnP or prerouteUPnP, for instance), which you can then invoke from the appropriate place in the main chains. I'm also updating the docs to make explicit mention of PREROUTING in this suggestion. Nick -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. It happens when jackd starting, not when i turn on soundcard. Just to learn more about this: do you start jackd as root or as a user? as a user Normally, a user process should never be able to crash the machine. OTOH, firewire is a little bit special, because it has write access to a larger portion of the main memory. However, jackd must not reboot the machine, that's for sure. I think so too, but yesterday i saw crashes after restart jackd, and i can't explain it differently... ieee1394: Node changed: 0-01:1023 - 0-00:1023 This is the old firewire stack. Any chance you could run it on Juju? You'd need to upgrade your kernel to 2.6.32 or later. Today I went to ffado.org, and saw that ffado already supports new stack, although one or two weeks ago the answer was no. So, I'll try to use my soundcard with new firewire stack. There Are 2.6.32 xen kernel in unstable, but i must upgrade xen-hypervisor to version 3.4. Bug#581615: supplied initramfs-tools scripts dont work if $udev_root != /dev
Package: udev Version: 154-1 Severity: important Tags: patch Hi, Just recently i switched to initramfs-tools, so the bug i'm reporting might be rather old. But i didnt find any references. As i understand the $udev_root option it helps keeping udev out of /dev. since /etc/init.d/udev and udevd itself respect this option, i conclude that it makes sense to fix the initramfs-tools part as well. Currently, changing $udev_root in udev.conf somewhat messes up the initrd made by update-initramfs: - udev resides (half way?) in $udev_root, while devices are looked for in /dev. depending on how the root device is adressed, this ends in a debug shell. - before chroot, $rootmnt/dev is messed up regeardless of the setting of $udev_root. this is unfortunate when a static /dev is in use The attached patch forces udev to live in /dev before chroot regardless of the $udev_root setting (init-top/udev). but then it is moved to where the user specified, to $rootmnt$udev_root (init-bottom/udev). i'd be happy if this could be merged. regards felix -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-4-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages udev depends on: ii debconf [debconf-2.0]1.5.32 Debian configuration management sy ii libc62.10.2-6Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libselinux1 2.0.94-1SELinux runtime shared libraries ii libusb-0.1-4 2:0.1.12-14 userspace USB programming library ii lsb-base 3.2-23.1Linux Standard Base 3.2 init scrip ii util-linux 2.16.2-0Miscellaneous system utilities Versions of packages udev recommends: ii pciutils 1:3.1.7-3 Linux PCI Utilities ii usbutils 0.87-1 Linux USB utilities udev suggests no packages. -- Configuration Files: /etc/udev/udev.conf changed: udev_log=err tmpfs_size=10M udev_root=/etc/udev/.dev -- debconf information excluded diff -rupN itramfs-tools.orig/scripts/init-bottom/udev initramfs-tools/scripts/init-bottom/udev --- initramfs-tools.orig/scripts/init-bottom/udev 2010-05-13 16:28:24.0 +0200 +++ initramfs-tools/scripts/init-bottom/udev 2010-05-14 01:09:38.0 +0200 @@ -21,10 +21,15 @@ for proc in /proc/[0-9]*; do fi done +udev_root=/dev +if [ -e /etc/udev/udev.conf ]; then +. /etc/udev/udev.conf +fi + # move the /dev tmpfs to the rootfs -mount -n -o move /dev $rootmnt/dev +mount -n -o move /dev $rootmnt$udev_root # create a temporary symlink to the final /dev for other initramfs scripts nuke /dev -ln -s $rootmnt/dev /dev +ln -s $rootmnt/$udev_root /dev diff -rupN initramfs-tools.orig/scripts/init-top/udev initramfs-tools/scripts/init-top/udev --- initramfs-tools.orig/scripts/init-top/udev 2010-05-13 16:28:24.0 +0200 +++ initramfs-tools/scripts/init-top/udev 2010-05-14 01:06:01.0 +0200 @@ -13,7 +13,7 @@ esac echo /sys/kernel/uevent_helper -udevd --daemon --resolve-names=never +UDEV_ROOT=/dev udevd --daemon --resolve-names=never mkdir -p /dev/.udev/queue/ udevadm trigger --action=add

Note that having bashishms in a /bin/sh script is a violation of debian policy! Surely; I've been using laptop-mode-tools successfully with dash for two years. Bug#570053: ITA: blender -- Very fast and versatile 3D modeller/renderer
Rafael Cunha de Almeida wrote, On 14/05/2010 03:45: Cool, I think I can use some help :-). I'm not sure how to add two maintainers to a project, but we can figure it out later. Actually I'm completely new about the Debian packaging world and I am still learning how it works. So I can work and contribute on the git and let you the uploads thing. I've already cloned the git repository located at http://git.debian.org/?p=collab-maint/blender.git;a=summary and I'm actually playing with it :). Here is my github clone : git://github.com/kiniou/blender-debian.git I forgot to tell I'm working/developping with Ubuntu Lucid actually but i'm looking to build with pbuilder and Debian mirror. This is why i've got a branch called ubuntu-lucid. Yes, when I wrote that either there wasn't a alpha 2, or I did a poor job looking at the site :P. Anyway, I'm trying to compile alpha 2 now, which can be found at: https://svn.blender.org/svnroot/bf-blender/tags/blender-2.52-release/ you probably know that already. I'll have more time to work on this package on the weekend, for now I've played with it enough to see that I'll need to figure out about Collada. Right now blender is failing to compile due to missing collada headers. Strange ... the build failed for me at the linking process because of openjpeg missing header. It failed only with pbuilder but not with dpkg-buildpackage and so far I did not find any clue about this issue. Collada seems to be needed in order to export blender projects to a XML format. It's possible to compile blender without it, but I think it would be much better to support it. Unfortunately I don't see collada (or opencollada) in debian's repository. Do you know anything about this issue? I remember that Collada export was done with some python script in 2.49 and I think it could be ported to 2.5 but maybe it's worth packaging opencollada. Anyway for now I disabled it in the patch 10_build_configuration for tests. --- Kevin Roy http://blog.knokorpo.fr -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#581612: cron: Cron jobs fail after upgrade to 3.0pl1-110
Hi Robbert, On 05/14/2010 11:59 AM, Robbert Kouprie wrote: On two different machines I have some cron jobs failing after upgrading from 3.0pl1-105 to 3.0pl1-110. Involved MTA is postfix in both cases. Downgrading to 3.0pl1-105 makes the issue go away again. For example, the below cronjob normally executes without output, within 1-2 seconds. # m h dom mon dow command */2 * * * * /usr/bin/fetchmail -s /dev/null 21 Now it fails: May 14 11:44:02 server /USR/SBIN/CRON[8853]: (robbert) CMD (/usr/bin/fetchmail -s /dev/null 21) May 14 11:44:03 server /USR/SBIN/CRON[8852]: (CRON) error (grandchild #8853 failed with exit status 1) I actually think this is the correct behaviour, and that pre-110 had the bug. First, I tested the above with some random commands, and they ran fine. I then installed fetchmail. Checking fetchmail(1) however, I found this for exit code 1: quote code=1 There was no mail awaiting retrieval. (There may have been old mail still on the server but not selected for retrieval.) If you do not want no mail to be an error condition (for instance, for cron jobs), use a POSIX-compliant shell and add || [ $? -eq 1 ] to the end of the fetchmail command line, note that this leaves 0 untouched, maps 1 to 0, and maps all other codes to 1. See also item #C8 in the FAQ. /quote /usr/share/doc/fetchmail/fetchmail-FAQ.html contains: C8. Why is NOMAIL an error?/I frequently get messages from cron! which basically says that what you are observing is 1) common and 2) correct. I'll take a look at the diff between -105 and -110 and see what could have caused this change. It'll have to wait until Monday, though. Bug#581624: pulseaudio: Stuttering playback from Wine
Package: pulseaudio Version: 0.9.21-1 Severity: normal I listen to music using Spotify running under Wine. Every now and then -- I don't know exactly how to provoke it, but leaving the machine idle for a few hours is usually good enough -- the audio output of Spotify is unlistenably choppy, and not in a way that recovers as described in #523389. I get the same problem on two machines running a squeeze/sid mix (one with a stock 686 kernel, one with a tuned low-latency kernel with PREEMPT and HZ=1000, specifically configured to keep JACK happy) and on my laptop which runs Ubuntu Lucid (with stock kernel). No, I'm not actually trying to run JACK at the same time as Spotify. I'm blaming PulseAudio for this because I've not found anything I can do to Spotify or Wine to make the choppiness go away, but if I set the card's profile to `off' and then back to whatever it was before, the sound immediately becomes fine. I have the following (deeply unpleasant) script saved as `~/bin/kick-pulseaudio'. It gets a lot of use. #! /bin/sh set -e pacmd list-cards | sed -n ' /^[[:space:]]*index: / { s/// h } /^[[:space:]]*active profile: \(.*\).*$/ { s//\1/ H x s/\ / / p } ' | while read index profile; do pacmd set-card-profile $index off /dev/null pacmd set-card-profile $index $profile /dev/null done I realise that this is probably very hard to track down. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.31.9 (PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=en_GB.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages pulseaudio depends on: ii adduser 3.112 add and remove users and groups ii consolekit0.4.1-4framework for defining and trackin ii libasound21.0.22-2 shared library for ALSA applicatio ii libasyncns0 0.3-1 Asyncronous name service query lib ii libc6 2.10.2-6 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libcap2 1:2.17-2 support for getting/setting POSIX. ii libdbus-1-3 1.2.24-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libgdbm3 1.8.3-9GNU dbm database routines (runtime ii libice6 2:1.0.6-1 X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libltdl7 2.2.6b-2 A system independent dlopen wrappe ii libpulse0 0.9.21-1 PulseAudio client libraries ii libsamplerate00.1.7-3Audio sample rate conversion libra ii libsm62:1.1.1-1 X11 Session Management library ii libsndfile1 1.0.21-2 Library for reading/writing audio ii libspeexdsp1 1.2~rc1-1 The Speex extended runtime library ii libudev0 153-2 libudev shared library ii libwrap0 7.6.q-18 Wietse Venema's TCP wrappers libra ii libx11-6 2:1.3.3-3 X11 client-side library ii libxtst6 2:1.1.0-2 X11 Testing -- Resource extension ii lsb-base 3.2-23.1 Linux Standard Base 3.2 init scrip ii udev 153-2 /dev/ and hotplug management daemo Versions of packages pulseaudio recommends: ii gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio 0.10.22-1 GStreamer plugin for PulseAudio ii libasound2-plugins1.0.22-1 ALSA library additional plugins ii pulseaudio-esound-compat 0.9.21-1 PulseAudio ESD compatibility layer ii pulseaudio-module-x11 0.9.21-1 X11 module for PulseAudio sound se Versions of packages pulseaudio suggests: ii paman 0.9.4-1PulseAudio Manager ii paprefs 0.9.9-2PulseAudio Preferences ii pavucontrol 0.9.9-1PulseAudio Volume Control ii pavumeter 0.9.3-1PulseAudio Volume Meter ii pulseaudio-utils 0.9.21-1 Command line tools for the PulseAu -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. I think I'll give it about a week more, or so. -- The biometric identification system at the gates of the CIA headquarters works because there's a guard with a large gun making sure no one is trying to fool the system. http://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2009/01/biometrics.html -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#581545: [kfreebsd] netinet/in.h origin issue
Fri, 14 May 2010 13:08:18 +0200 (CEST) Petr Salinger petr.salin...@seznam.cz wrote: There are defined some kernel-specific macroses, e.g. Please, could you verify whether adding line #define IPPROTO_DIVERT 258 /* divert pseudo-protocol */ into /usr/include/bits/in.h fixes all your needs ? Yes, but are you sure this is a correct fix for this issue? Do you suggests to track FreeBSD kernel's netinet/in.h and append everything missed in libc's netinet/in.h to bits/in.h? This may be correct from tecnical point of view, but from organization one this will be a headache to keep them synchronized. I think that freebsd code should be brought to system with freebsd-kernel-headers, but you know this better, of course. -- Best regards, Alexander GQ Gerasiov Contacts: e-mail:g...@cs.msu.su Jabber: g...@jabber.ru Homepage: http://gq.net.ru ICQ: 7272757 PGP fingerprint: 04B5 9D90 DF7C C2AB CD49 BAEA CA87 E9E8 2AAC 33F1 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#581612: cron: Cron jobs fail after upgrade to 3.0pl1-110
On 05/14/2010 12:59 PM, Christian Kastner wrote: Hi Robbert, On 05/14/2010 11:59 AM, Robbert Kouprie wrote: On two different machines I have some cron jobs failing after upgrading from 3.0pl1-105 to 3.0pl1-110. Involved MTA is postfix in both cases. Downgrading to 3.0pl1-105 makes the issue go away again. For example, the below cronjob normally executes without output, within 1-2 seconds. # m h dom mon dow command */2 * * * * /usr/bin/fetchmail -s /dev/null 21 First, I tested the above with some random commands, and they ran fine. /quote One thing that just came to mind: If cron generated mails, that would probably screw up your testing. Say that -110 generates a mail. You downgrade to -105; -105 runs fine (because it gets the mail from -110). You upgrade to -110 again, and that fails again because of no mail. And so on. Bug#581631: please build cfdisk with ncurses, not libslang
Package: util-linux Version: 2.16.2-0 Severity: wishlist It's been over 12 years already since cfdisk is built against libslang. It can be built either againt libncurses or libslang. The interface it shows is basically the same. Reasoning: o libslang2 can be made optional, since the only reason why it is currently marked as required is due to the fact that it is used by util-linux package. On all my systems for example, cfdisk (util-linux) the only user of libslang. o to my taste anyway, ncurses interface looks more usual, since it uses the same interface as many other screen-based programs uses (editors, file browsers and even dpkg frontends like dialog). I even used to rebuild util-linux packages a while ago to replace slang with ncurses. This is just a (small) wishlist. People has their own preferences for such things, mine is with ncurses, but sure thing others may disagree. What is the result of that discussion? The freeze is approaching, so I guess we should come to a conclusion concerning this bug. We decided not to do this. Bdale had marked the package as conflicting with the package that has the 'grc' binary, and we're happy with that. Is the status quo okay to continue?
