Bug#506666: SDL_Init causing crashes on powerpc
Leslie Viljoen leslievilj...@gmail.com (22/02/2011): Sorry, I no longer have drive space available. I could try temporarily with a live CD but the Debian live CD's are not built for PPC and some searching shows no other PPC live CD's that look promising. Alright, thanks anyway for following-up. I'll wait a bit more for feedback from Risto Järvinen then. KiBi. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#600979: xserver-xorg-video-radeon: with a secondary user login via a new gdm session video playing colour is too dark
dave b db.pub.m...@gmail.com (22/02/2011): Actually it turns out to be a totem bug. When I play a video on that second session - it screws up the video (makes it dark). If I use vlc it doesn't occur. Is that really a totem bug, or does the difference com from the backend used in the players? Might still be a bug in some X layer… Got some feedback from totem folks? Here's the place for nightly dists: -- http://itupw056.itu.chalmers.se/xnee/nightly-dists/ I just checked this one: -- http://itupw056.itu.chalmers.se/xnee/nightly-dists/xnee-cvs-20110221.tar.gz . and it seems to be working fine[3]. Regards, henrik NOTE: When recording multiple devices on one display and replay to another display while using XI (and not core devices) Xnee has no good way of finding which recorded device id belongs to which replayed device id. Basically Xnee uses the same id as xinput --list spits out when recording and tries to find it when replaying. Perhaps Xnee will use the strings AND id in the future... let's see about that... at least you know now. [1] http://itupw056.itu.chalmers.se/xnee/ [2] http://itupw056.itu.chalmers.se/xnee-live/ [3] Here's how I tested the version above Record local display - ./cnee/src/cnee --record --mouse --keyboard -o testme.xns -sk q # stop recording by pressing q Replay to local display - ./cnee/src/cnee --replay -f testme.xns Replay to local display (and forcing core device event) - ./cnee/src/cnee --replay -f testme.xns -fcr Record Xephyr display (:3) - ./cnee/src/cnee --record --mouse --keyboard -o testme.xns -sk q --display :3 --time 3 Replay to Xephyr display (:3) - ./cnee/src/cnee --replay -f testme.xns --display :3 --time 3 Replay to Xephyr display (:3) (and forcing core device event) - ./cnee/src/cnee --replay -f testme.xns --display :3 --time 3 -fcr On 02/20/2011 11:17 AM, Javier Barroso wrote: Of course! Bug#614221: 2.6.37-1-powerpc does not but on iMac G3
Package: linux-2.6 Severity: normal I'm experiencing the same problem in my iBook G4 with an ATI Radeon Mobility 9200. After running the bootloader (tried both Yaboot and GRUB2, single or multiuser), some text messages appear and the screen is clared a couple of times. The following text is printed in white over black lines on a white screen: setup_arch: bootmem arch: exit Two more empty black lines and the system gets stuck in there, rebooting itself after a couple of minutes. Bug#614497: doc-debian: The OPL-licensed documents taken from Debian website are non-free
Package: doc-debian Version: 3.1.2 Severity: serious Justification: Policy 2.2.1 Hi! As you already know, the documents taken from the official Debian website are not really copyrighted by SPI: http://bugs.debian.org/388141 Moreover, those documents are licensed under the terms of the Open Publication License, Draft v1.0 or later, and thus fail to comply with the DFSG: http://bugs.debian.org/238245 http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2004/03/msg00226.html This is a (two-fold) issue for the Debian website, and is still unfixed, unfortunately. But it is an even worse issue for the doc-debian package, which is shipped in the main archive! I am filing this bug report, in the hope that this problem gets solved before wheezy is released. Of course, this bug report is to be marked as blocked by #388141 and by #238245: those two bugs should be fixed first; after that, the debian/copyright file of doc-debian should be updated accordingly. I can confirm this problem. But it does not seem to be the libcairo2 update but instead the libgl1-mesa-glx update to 7.10.1-4. installing 7.7.1-4 from testing (with libcairo2 from unstable) fixes the problem for me. signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Bug#614421: apache2: virtual host rewrite log has owner root and group root
On 02/21/2011 01:57 PM, Stefan Fritsch wrote: Apache opens the logs as root before changing user. This is intentional and makes sense from a security point of view. Thank you for the prompt response. :-) I'm designing a Linux/ Apache/ MySQL/ Perl content management system that I'd like to work in shared hosting environments (among other configurations). Apache typically runs as an unpriviledged user (www-data on Debian, suexec, others?). So, neither my software nor the user will be able to rotate or delete the logs. What is the correct solution? Bug#614495: pymsnt: no error reporting
Package: pymsnt Version: 0.11.3-5 Severity: important If pymsnt fails to bind to the file transfer port, e.g.: ftJabberPort8010/ftJabberPort then it just does not start. It does not log any error to /var/log/pymsnt/error.log, nor does it complain on standard output. This makes it very hard to find out why it's not starting (going though reams of strace(1) output is how I found my problem, namely Psi had bound the port already). The patch itself looks okay, but it doesn't appear to have been added to debian/patches/series, so isn't applied in the resulting binary package. Bug#538167: segfault in ntop
package ntop tags 538167 + moreinfo thanks Hi, could you try with version 4.0.3 from unstable or testing and report if it fixes your issue, please? It is known that even the latest ntop is unstable when DNS resolution is turned on, so it is disabled in the debian package. However the issue you reported seems to be specific about the a particular page. If 4.0.3 is not crashing for you, could you please try to re-enable DNS resolution (see /etc/defaults/ntop, remove the the -n 0 option) and see if it sill crashes when visiting the Hossts Summary page? Bug#610452: strobe: patch is in production
lördag den 19 februari 2011 klockan 22:30 skrev Michael Meskes detta: On Tue, Feb 15, 2011 at 02:37:53PM +0100, Mats Erik Andersson wrote: You might be interested in hearing that I have a new patch in testing, a patch that does support IPv6. Would you mind sharing this patch with us so we can test it, too? Here it comes! Having detected the serious fault in #613557, a portion of self-esteem dictated that a corresponding solution first be found, in order that my IPv6 patch should not be blamed for that error. Thus arose a week's delay. The patch included here is computed on top of the changes implemented for the resolution of #613557. As of now I have left the code at a stage using the first address returned by getaddrinfo(3), not implementing a full queueing of all permissible addresses deliverable from the lookup. The new options '-4' and '-6' influence an a priory decision on a specific domain family. Best regards, Mats Erik Andersson Description: Make changes for IPv6 support. The migration to code using getaddrinfo(3) is readily able to support IPv6 for Strobe. The subroutine resolve() must be eliminated in order to achieve bookeeping needed for portable code. The present changes are func- tional for GNU/Linux, GNU/kFreeBSD, OpenBSD, and FreeBSD. . A numerical target host, supplemented with a port, or port range, must use brackets for the numerical IPv6 address: . strobe [::1]:20-90 . but brackets are optional for IPv6 without a port specification. . Presently the implementation applies the first acceptable address returned from getaddrinfo(3), but use of the new options '-4' or '-6' will restrict probing to a single domain family. Games don't work (all of supertuxkart warzone2100); all that shows is a mouse cursor while the opening music plays * without compiz, these two games start, and the corruption I mentioned early on does not seem to appear anymore. Under supertuxkart, I was able to start a race and run a few meters (before I quit). Under warzone2100, the menus were perfectly clear and I could start a skirmish, with unmeasured but apparently pretty good fps, even when dragging the terrain around (right-click...dragshake), all text appeared good. Bug#614499: please provide experimental packages built using libgmp10-dev
Package: mpfr Severity: wishlist Tags: experimental the mpfr dependency libgmp recently got a new version (5.0), which has a new soversion, which is reflected in a new package name libgmp10 (instead of libgmp3). i've built mpfr with the new version (Build-Depends changed to the lib{,32}gmp10-dev without further version, -dev's Depends changed to libgmp10-dev, libmpfr4's explicit dependency on libgmp3c2 dropped although i'm not sure what it was supposed to do), and it seems to work (it built, and packages built from it worked). having such packages in experimental is required for building packages which themselves depend on the 5.0 version of gmp (like openscad from #583476), but to me it is -- now that i've built my own -- not too important any more (as far as the itp is concerned, i'll have to wait for libgmp10 to go into unstable anyway). so if you think it's not worth it, just take this bug report as a reminder of the upcoming libgmp10 version and a note that the transition seems to be painless on the mpfr side. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.37-trunk-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Well, I did not invented that, I do not like combined case commands there too much but I do not want to change it now (most users which have problems here will use some GUI wrapper or so anyway). Bug#606286: freetype: Freetype 2.4.4 is out with UVS Support and more

IMPORTANT BUG FIXES - UVS support (TrueType/OpenType cmap format 14) support is fixed. This regression has been introduced in version 2.4.0. II. MISCELLANEOUS - Detect tricky fonts (e.g. MingLiU) by the lengths and checksums of Type42-persistent subtables (`cvt ', `fpgm', and `prep') when a TrueType font without family name is given. The previous fix, introduced in 2.4.3, was too rigorous, causing many subsetted fonts (mainly from PDF files) displayed badly because FreeType forced rendering with the TrueType bytecode engine instead of the autohinter. - Better support for 64bit platforms. - More fixes to improve handling of broken fonts. It's really not necessary to file bugs against the freetype package when a new upstream version is released. I already get notified by the upstream lists; all filing bugs accomplishes here is gives me more bugs that have to be closed in the changelog. Thanks, -- Marc J. Bug#614509: ViewVC 1.1.9 released upstream; package available from the ZAP Group
Package: viewvc Severity: wishlist Dear David, Thanks for using my work in releasing ViewVC 1.1.5-1 for Debian; I'm glad you found it useful! For some reason, I didn't receive mail from bug #575777; I was in Russia (!) at the time and out of e-mail contact: perhaps the mail was accidentally rejected as spam. I note that upstream have released a new version of ViewVC, 1.1.9. I have already packaged this for the ZAP Group and am using it successfully on my server. I am including the diff of the debian directory between 1.1.5-1.1 and 1.1.9-0.1zg1 (my version). You can also download the full source to the packages, if you wish: ftp://ftp.zap.org.au/pub/debian/dists/zapgroup-sid/main/source/viewvc_1.1.9-0.1zg1.dsc ftp://ftp.zap.org.au/pub/debian/dists/zapgroup-sid/main/source/viewvc_1.1.9-0.1zg1.diff.gz ftp://ftp.zap.org.au/pub/debian/dists/zapgroup-sid/main/source/viewvc_1.1.9.orig.tar.gz Alternatively, you can use the following lines in /etc/apt/sources.list: deb ftp://ftp.zap.org.au/pub/debian zapgroup-sid main deb-src ftp://ftp.zap.org.au/pub/debian zapgroup-sid main You can replace zapgroup-sid with zapgroup-squeeze or zapgroup-maverick as appropriate. Highlights of my changes: * ViewVC 1.1.9 packaged (new functionality and also some bug fixes) * Patches in debian/patches refreshed for 1.1.9 Thanks in advance for your work! Bug#614507: xserver-common: Upgrade breaks X
reassign 614507 xserver-xorg-video-nouveau thanks Hi again, Nigel Horne n...@bandsman.co.uk (21/02/2011): upgrading from which version? I've no idea. But if you can give me a pointer on how to find out I will let you know. Is it in a log file somewhere? /var/log/dpkg.log will probably tell you. But if you could tell me whether you upgraded from a squeeze system to a sid system, that would be OK for me. If you don't know, look for the following package in that log file: linux-image-* (packages starting with “linux-image-”) xserver-xorg-core xserver-xorg-video-nouveau Until we triage it further (probably a bug in the kernel or in the nouveau driver), you may want to try and use the fbdev driver instead. Make sure xserver-xorg-video-fbdev is installed and specify the fbdev driver in xorg.conf as described in: http://pkg-xorg.alioth.debian.org/faq/general.html Do you mean X starts but the screen is garbled? Yes Could you please explain a bit more details how it's garbled? In the meanwhile, I'm reassigning this bug report to the nouveau video driver, Sven will probably take you from here. Bug#614413: re buildd's resolver and package's build deps
[explicit BCC to Roger] Hi everyone, Roger, Roger Leigh has filed a few bug reports related to how the buildd's resolver (either internal or any of the new ones: apt{,itude}) and I'm not sure I quiet agree. Let's take for example the one filed against php5 [#614413]: [...] Severity: important php5 is using these alternative build dependencies: automake (= 1.11) | automake1.11 libcurl4-openssl-dev | libcurl-dev libdb-dev (= 4.7) | libdb4.8-dev | libdb4.6-dev, libjpeg-dev | libjpeg62-dev libmysqlclient-dev | libmysqlclient15-dev The build dependency resolver is currently only using the first alternative. Newer resolvers use the other alternatives, and this can potentially lead to inconsistency between builds. Agreed that it can lead to build-deps inconsistencies. Please only use one package, the one you specifically want for the build, and drop the alternatives. The use of alternatives in build dependencies is not supported. In particular, you really only want one specific version of libdb (4.8?); there must be no uncertainty about this when the build dæmon installs the build dependencies. The same thing applies to automake and the other packages using alternatives. I disagree here. Alternatives in build-* relationships *are* mentioned by policy. In fact, there's even an example in section 7.1. There's also no stated guarantee *anywhere* (including release policy) that the package's build deps should be consistent, much less the result. Also, alternatives have been used ever since I joined the project for making backporting easier. Requiring stricter build-deps also affects that use case. After thinking about it for a while, my opinion is that if anyone wants consistency to be guaranteed (e.g. in php's case that a rebuild doesn't end up linking php to libdb4.6 instead of libdb4.8) it should be handled on buildd/release team's side. The build deps as provided by the source package are valid. If the package fails to build because the dependencies were resolved in a non- standard way then an RC bug should be filed and fixed. I abhor the idea of uselessly tightening dependencies. Bug#614510: pommed: Intel 945GM (MacBook v1) step value in the config is wrong
Package: pommed Version: 1.37~dfsg-1 Severity: normal My brightness keys were jumping the brightnes on my MacBook v1.1, e.g. increasing the brightness from 0% using function key would cycle like so: 0%-25%-50%-0%-75%-100%-0%-100%. Turns out the step value for the MacBook v1.1 (Intel Gma950) is a bit too big. /sys/devices/virtual/backlight/mbp_backlight/max_brightness is 15. When I've changed the step value from the hexadecimal value to 1 I got back the smooth/gradual brightness increase/decrease via function key. Below is the relevant section of the modified pommed config file. And it turns out I don't need pommed anymore, since it just works without it now. Bug#614512: FTBFS in version 8.0.1-2
Source: mesa-demos Version: 8.0.1-2 Severity: minor Tags: patch I am getting a FTBFS when making a local build of mesa-demos using version 8.0.1-2. I was able to build 8.0.1-1 from your git repo on Feb. 6 (before it was released), but my latest build attempt failed. I was able to resolve the problem after doing a bit of research. I found that 'xeglgears.c' and 'xeglthreads.c' (in 'src/egl/opengl') both depend on libX11, and 'xeglthreads.c' also depends on libpthreads. This apparently is a problem that has struck mesa-demos in the past, before its sources were separated from mesa itself this past year. I found this online info, for example: http://www.mail-archive.com/mesa3d-dev@lists.sourceforge.net/msg12679.html I marked the severity as minor because I have a massively altered graphics stack installed -- many packages built locally instead of obtained from Debian servers -- and the problem may only affect me. IOW, you may wish to dismiss this report out of hand. My purpose of filing the bug is to provide an early warning to the Debian XSF in case something has changed recently that is uncovering an underlying bug. As I mentioned before, I was able to build mesa-demos before; tonight I could not. I have attached a patch using 'reportbug -A'. (If that fails to work, let me know, and I will resend it.) It is a two-liner which adds *_LDADD specs for xegl{gears, threads} in 'Makefile.am' (dir: 'src/egl/opengl'); the build works fine for me with this patch applied. Bug#614515: linux-image-2.6.37-1-amd64: Random kernel crash when waking up from suspend to RAM
Package: linux-2.6 Version: 2.6.37-1 Severity: normal Tags: sid Since I upgraded to the SID version of 2.6.37 kernel image, I experienced randomly crashes when waking up from suspend to RAM. This crash occurs in the gpu module (i915). The screen indeed light up to a black screen, with just a white cursor _ on the top left of the screen, and nothing other than hard reboot can be done. The system manage to write the crash report in log (attached at the end). This problem doesn't seem to occur with the last image from experimental (linux-image-2.6.37-trunk-amd64 version 2.6.37-1). I may just have been lucky with the experimental kernel, as there seems to be only few difference between experimental and SID kernel (the only difference that may be related to the problem is that the SID version do not activate ACPI_PROCFS), but I switched back to experimental kernel and did not experience any freeze until now. Hi Daniel, On Sat, 2011-01-22 at 13:26 +, Daniel Thomas wrote: Package: libphp-simplepie Version: 1.2-1 Severity: important libphp-simplepie uses the idn_to_utf8 function which according to http://php.net/manual/en/function.idn-to-utf8.php requires (PHP 5 = 5.3.0, PECL intl = 1.0.2, PECL idn = 0.1) but since the control file only specifies Depends: php5 | php5-cli, php5-idn, php5-curl rather than: Depends: php5 = 5.3.0 | php5-cli = 5.3.0, php5-idn, php5-curl it can be installed with php 5.2.x which results in errors such as Fatal error: Call to undefined function idn_to_utf8() in /usr/share/php/simplepie/simplepie.inc on line 7645 occurring when simplepie is used. (the system information below is misleading as I am filing this bug from a different system from the one where the error occurred - though the error in the control file is still present) Sorry for the late reply. The php-idn in Lenny is not activated by default. So, you need do it. Here [0] you will found more information. [0] /usr/share/doc/php5-idn/README.Debian If there is no objection, I will close this bug as wontfix.
