This problem is PowerMac specific. We have to compile in pata-macio
(libata) instead of ide-pmac (deprecated ide) driver into kernel.
Yaboot has to be fixed first to support pata-macio.

I found similar reports in other bugzillas. Not only xfwm4 is affected
but kwin too (any others?). It isn't specific to vte either, AFAICT it
can affect any widget using geometry hints in gtk3.
