Bug#641146: openttd: Swapped colors on sparc64

2012-04-07 Thread R. Bijker

Hi,

trying the same on a SPARC (not 64) QEMU shows something somewhat
interesting. First of all QEMU only supports 8bpp colours. Secondly,
when starting OpenTTD via either Allegro or SDL in 8bpp mode makes the
colours of the rest of the interface go totally haywire whereas the
colours in-game are correct. Thirdly, using 32bpp the colours are
definitely wrong, however changing the order from ARGB to ABGR makes the
colours look better but they are still wrong. I have no idea what is
going on there though. In any case, x86 uses BGRA (i.e. ARGB reversed),
PPC uses ARGB and now it seems SPARC uses ABGR. So it's not an Endian
problem, but some strange SPARC implementation detail issue.

The only caveat of changing ARGB - ABGR is that the screenshots will
then be incorrectly coloured, so somewhere during writing data to the
screen the bits need to be reordered. The main question is, however, how
can we detect that we need to reorder bits? As when we don't need it, we
shouldn't waste CPU on doing basically a no-op, and we would like to
know whether there are more peculiar targets.

In any case, I have no idea whether this also happens on SPARC64. For
example, I don't even know whether you used 32bpp or 8bpp OpenTTD. If it
is 8bpp OpenTTD, which I assume to be the case as that's default and you
didn't mention switching to the 32bpp blitter, then this issue isn't
your issue and I'd rather argue that it is a bug in SDL given we set the
right values in the SDL_Color structure.

Regards,
Rubidium

Bug#667703: Please remove synaptic entirely from task-desktop

2012-04-07 Thread Christian PERRIER
Quoting Joey Hess (jo...@debian.org):
 Josselin Mouette wrote:
It should be the role of metapackages to handle which packages are
  installed onto which desktop environment.

This actually depends how close a given desktop environment's definition
of desktop environment is to common user expectation of a linux
desktop. For example, none of the DE's include a print server, but a
Debian desktop system should have one.

And one might argue to Joss argument that tasksel tasks are
metapackages per se so pulling in packages can be seen as belonging to
them (otherwise, tasksel tasks become useless).

But, of course, when tasksel metapackages are pulling DE metapackages
that are pulling some packages, we don't need to replicate this in tasksel..:)

The gnome metapackage already pulls synaptic. If we decide one day to
replace it, it shouldn’t need two changes, one in gnome and one in
  tasksel.

I agree, there is no reason to pull in synaptic twice for gnome.

OK, so long for not pulling synaptic through the gnome task...and not
moving it to the desktop task

That leaves us with the decision of either adding synaptic to the KDE
taskor leave it up to KDE maintainers to do it in one of their
metapackages.

(and same decision for other DE)

Ah, yes. You make excellent points. I'm intending to prepare another
upload in a couple of weeks (after exams) to try and fix a couple of

include a fix for this then.

Bug#652347: Patch for the l10n upload of common-lisp-controller

Bug#667791: [PATCH] libsvm: Helping to update to packaging format 3.0

Hi Jari,

Thanks for your notification. All the modification looks great. Please
upload it in a NMU.

 Hi,

The dpatch patch management system has been deprecated for some time. The
Lintian currently flags use of dpatch packages as an error. The new 3.0
packaging format is an improved version which, among other things, contains
patch management built-in. For more information, see:

http://wiki.debian.org/Projects/DebSrc3.0

I had some free time; see attached patch to migrate to new package
format. Note that all files in debian/patches/* are canocalized to
 *.patch.

Let me know if there is anything that needs adjusting or if it is ok
to upload this version in a NMU in case you are working on other
 issues needing attention.

 Thanks,
 Jari

Hi!

Is any of the maintainers of the package looking into fixing this?

The cause of the problem is that a function declared in a header file in

The old header said:

krb5_error_code
hdb_generate_key_set_password (
krb5_context /*context*/,
krb5_principal /*principal*/,
const char */*password*/,
Key **/*keys*/,
size_t */*num_keys*/);

The new version says:

krb5_error_code
hdb_generate_key_set_password (
krb5_context /*context*/,
krb5_principal /*principal*/,
const char */*password*/,
krb5_key_salt_tuple */*ks_tuple*/,
int /*n_ks_tuple*/,
Key **/*keys*/,
size_t */*num_keys*/);

So there are two new arguments added in the middle at positions 4 and
5. The openldap code calls this function in one location in the file
contrib/slapd-modules/smbk5pwd/smbk5pwd.c on line 470-471:

ret = hdb_generate_key_set_password(context, ent.principal,
qpw-rs_new.bv_val, ent.keys.val, nkeys);

Without any knowledge about what this function does and what the
smbk5pwd module is, the best I can do is to add a NULL and a 0 for the
two new arguments:

ret = hdb_generate_key_set_password(context, ent.principal,
qpw-rs_new.bv_val, NULL, 0, ent.keys.val, nkeys);

Adding a patch implementing this change makes the package compile. But
since I have no idea what the module does, I also can not test if works
with this patch. A package that builds at all is better than a package
that is FTBFS though.

Does anyone have a better idea?

Mattias

Dear maintainer,

I've prepared an NMU for mtr (versioned as 0.82-2.1). I's just a patched version
of what Rogier Wolff said[0].

Regards.

Thanks! I'll get this tested and uploaded later this weekend.

Bug#667862: [PATCH] pygpiv: Helping to enable hardened build flags

2012-04-07 Thread jari . aalto
Package: pygpiv
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Hi,

The hardened build flags is one of the release goals of forthcoming
Debian releases. Number of security problems in the past have been
identified in packages that hadn't been fortified. For more
information, see:

http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2012/02/msg00016.html
http://lists.debian.org/debian-dpkg/2011/09/msg00013.html
http://wiki.debian.org/ReleaseGoals/SecurityHardeningBuildFlags

See attached patch to help to migrate to hardened flags. At the same
time I fixed items reported by Lintian and upgraded the package to the
latest tools and standards version.

Thanks,
Jari

Oops, looking at the utils.sh script, it is explicitly set to on there.

Bug#667863: transition: octave 3.2 - 3.6

2012-04-07 Thread Rafael Laboissiere
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: transition

The Debian Octave Group (DOG) is preparing the transition from Octave 3.2
to 3.6. There will be an important impact on the Debian ecosystem
because we abandoned the versioned naming scheme. Indeed, the Octave
package currently in stable/testing is called octave3.2. From now on, it
will be called simply octave (which will conflict/replace octave3.2).

After the transition is completed, we will ask for the removal of the
octave3.2* packages. This will affect a large number of packages in
testing. We are coordinating this transition through our wiki page [1].

There are two types of packages involved. First, the Octave-Forge [2]
packages that are maintained by the DOG itself. We have already ported
all of them and requested removal of the obsolete ones.

Second, packages not maintained by the DOG that have reverse dependencies
on the octave3.2* packages. The situation of each one of these packages
have been analyzed and appropriate bug reports with patches have been
filed [3].

We have also filed a RC bug report (Bug#661521) against the octave
package currently in unstable (version 3.6.1-4). We will wait until all
Octave-Forge packages, at least, are ready for migration into testing
before we close that bug report. The expected date when this will happen
is April 15, 2012.

Best,

Rafael Laboissière

Bug#656135: Add findiso boot parametre

2012-04-07 Thread intrigeri
Hi,

adrian15 wrote (06 Apr 2012 18:39:46 GMT) :
I've even improved the part about checking that the iso was mounted
 that intrigeri pointed out at:
 http://lists.debian.org/debian-live/2011/09/msg00067.html

 So you have replaced

grep -q /live/findiso /proc/mounts umount /root/live/findiso

 with

[ ! -z ${mountpoint} ] umount /root/live/findiso

It seems more fragile to me than what the original patch did (although
it did in a way I did not like); but maybe you can explain us why this
new check is sufficient and/or better suited than the old one?

Well, actually, I wanted to ask you what did you mean when you said
that exactly but I didn't think of sending you an email.

I suggested using the mountpoint *command* instead of the ugly
grep hack.

I can re-submit the patch without this change or try to implement
whatever you meant if you explain it.

Please do.

Cheers,

Gedit crashed after trying to start the valatoys plugin. The application keeps
crashing since then. Hence the bug is reproducable.
The bug was initially reported at

reproducable in Debian sid too. From the debian\rules file it seems like it is
a packaging issue

I'd be happy to provide a patch if that would speed up things.

I tried to migrate during the last days, but to no avail. I would

I'm not sure what I've done wrong.

Bug#667870: gajim: shortcut also activates roster filter

2012-04-07 Thread Dirk Griesbach
Package: gajim
Version: 0.15-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

If I use Ctrl+H or Ctrl+I in my roster, it will open history/show
information of the contact. However, the new roster filter will also
filter for 'h' or 'i'. Shortcuts like Ctrl+Y, Ctrl+O or Ctrl+N work like
expected without activating the filter.

Cheers,
Dirk

Do you need me to test this?

There's no need to. The thing is: current busybox udhcpc
does not compile on FreeBSD at all. Right now the applet
is marked as linux-only, and here's what you get if you
try to compile it on kFreeBSD:

  CC networking/udhcp/arpping.o
networking/udhcp/arpping.c: In function ‘arpping’:
networking/udhcp/arpping.c:51:13: error: ‘PF_PACKET’ undeclared (first use in
this function)
networking/udhcp/arpping.c:51:13: note: each undeclared identifier is reported
only once for each function it appears in
networking/udhcp/arpping.c:51:24: error: ‘SOCK_PACKET’ undeclared (first use in
this function)
make[1]: *** [networking/udhcp/arpping.o] Error 1
make: *** [networking/udhcp] Error 2

Looking at the git log, I see this has been this way for
a long time: udhcp* was linux-specific, and it were marked
as such by this commit:

commit 1d7266d3b59be361763dab61f680103bbb70f3e9
Author: Jeremie Koenig j...@jk.fr.eu.org
Date: Mon Jul 19 00:44:56 2010 +0200

mark Linux-specific configuration options

PLATFORM_LINUX is used as a dependency for applets or features
which require Linux-specific interfaces.

Now I wonder how it work{s,ed} in debian-installer...

Digging further... ;)

And after disabling ARPING feature, it fails
down the line, due to a few linux-specific
#include's in dhcpc.c, and after removing
these, due to raw_socket usage etc. So it
needs quite some more work to be not
linux-only... :(

   Hello,

   Tony Baechler, le Fri 06 Apr 2012 04:41:11 -0700, a écrit :
When booting the CD, I press s and Enter to start software speech.
I get no sound. I have to go to a shell and run amixer. My sound
card is a Sound Blaster Audigy using the emu_10k1 module.
Apparently, Audigy/Analog digital output jack is set to on, which
effectively mutes the card.

Oops, looking at the utils.sh script, it is explicitly set to on there.
Do we know exactly why this is so?

This is fixed while doing an Ubuntu merge last upload (1.0.25-1).

 Err, in 1.0.25-1,

switch_control Audigy Analog/Digital Output Jack on

 is still there...

So this must be done by the driver itself. There is a passus in
/etc/init.d/alsa-utils where this switch_control can be explicitly
set off:
# for CTL in \
# Audigy Analog/Digital Output Jack \
# SB Live Analog/Digital Output Jack
# do
# switch_control $CTL off
# done

I don't have an Audigy handy for testing, though.

Bug#646961: moot

2012-04-07 Thread Robert Millan
El 7 d’abril de 2012 10:39, Michael Tokarev m...@tls.msk.ru ha escrit:
Looking at the git log, I see this has been this way for
a long time: udhcp* was linux-specific, and it were marked
 as such by this commit:

Ouch. For some reason I thought this was the DHCP client being used
in D-I. I did all my testing by building a D-I image (sigh).

Ok, still would be nice to have one more DHCP client on GNU/kFreeBSD,
but this has become really low priority. Please keep the bug open for
now... it can be useful to read up on this later.

Thanks for your help.

Now I wonder how it work{s,ed} in debian-installer...

 Digging further... ;)

It has to be this:

Package: isc-dhcp-client-udeb
Priority: extra
Architecture: any
Section: debian-installer
Depends: ${shlibs:Depends}
XC-Package-Type: udeb
Description: ISC DHCP Client for debian-installer
dhcp-client-udeb is a minimal dhcp package used by the debian-installer.

Yes, that's a bit unfortunate and this was primarily just for your

I realize this generates unnecessary work for you, but the alternative
would be to require people to declare a versioned build-dependency for
all 73 affected reverse dependencies until we get rid of the 2.2 -dev

Bug#666772: apt cross-build-dep handling should be liberal with Arch: all packages

Have you talked to the dpkg developers about this? There is at
least dpkg-checkbuilddeps which checks build dependencies, and
I think dpkg also does build-time dependency handling in some
other tools. And as dpkg is one level lower than APT, I think
they should be asked first before doing something like this.

Well, I'm about to do a bugfix upload of my package, so I guess I
can't just ignore the bug for now and I will have to do the build-dep
dance. It also means I cannot upload a package that will nicely build
with both apache-2.2 AND apache-2.4 from the same source, which I was
planning to do to ease backporting work. Bummer.

I'm not versed into the specifics, but all I can say is that I liked
the idea of the status quo, that is, don't break something that worked
well for so long. Maybe it couldn't be done ;-P

It would be helpful to include a useful subject rather than a number
and patch. In any case, I don't see any reason why we should create
code to sort one list in our output (the list of automatically
removable packages) while all other lists are not sorted.

Note: None of our lists are sorted. Some appear to be sorted, but
they are just ordered based on the appearance in the cache. In most
cases, that list is sorted as the input files are, but there is
AFAICT no guarantee anywhere that something is in any specific
order currently.

Bug#667891: libpisock-dev: should not depend on libncurses5-dev

2012-04-07 Thread Sven Joachim
Package: libpisock-dev
Severity: normal
Version: 0.12.5-4+b1
User: ncur...@packages.debian.org
Usertags: libncurses5-dependency

The libpisock-dev package should not depend on libncurses5-dev, since I
could bot find any references to ncurses whatsoever in it.

The Debian changelog mentions that the dependency had been added in
version 0.11.7-2 as a response to bug #175466. That problem (ncurses
referenced in the .la files) seems to have been fixed long ago, in
0.12.0 or so.

Bug#663868: laserjet1018 (foo2zjs) printer disappears and appears in loop

2012-04-07 Thread Matthew Hall
For what it's worth I have the same issue when I use printer-driver-foo2zjs,
but the printer seems to work perfectly every time using hplip.

So I am guessing there is some problem with the USB interface in foo2zjs
combined with recent kernels, because previously foo2zjs was always working
perfectly for me.

Matthew.

Bug#666359: cabal-install

2012-04-07 Thread Joachim Breitner
Dear Cabal developers,

I just noticed debian bug #666359: The current cabal-install in Debian
(0.10.2) cannot be build at the moment and we should upgrade to a
version compatible with the Cabal shipped with GHC 7.4.1, i.e. 0.14 (?).
For some reason, no cabal-install-0.14 has been uploaded to Hackage.

Is there a reason for that? What is the official release of
cabal-install compatible with GHC 7.4.1 – the one shipped in the GHC
source tree, or the one living in
http://darcs.haskell.org/cabal-branches/cabal-1.14/cabal-install, or
some other?

I’d be grateful for some clarification, and possible an upload to
hackage of the cabal-install version you want Debian users to use.

Thanks,
Joachim

This failure is reproducible and happens when xpcshell is invoked. Aurélien
pinned it down to a failure with jemalloc, as the build completes successfully
with --disable-jemalloc. zelenka, the s390 porterbox, does have a s390x chroot
as sid_s390x. Fedora apparently disabled jemalloc in response to this problem.

Aurélien further found this:

10:25 aurel32 what i know about jemalloc so far:
10:25 aurel32 - it works with version 7
10:25 aurel32 - it doesn't with version 8
10:26 aurel32 - using the jemalloc from version 8 in firefox 7 still works
10:26 aurel32 - building with --disable-jemalloc make firefox working

Mike, is disabling jemalloc to make it build an option or would you prefer to
dig into the problem?

Currently iceweasel is blocking the rebuild of libproxy, which is the only
initially imported package left.

Kind regards
Philipp Kern

Bug#642136: Policy with two groups

2012-04-07 Thread Vladimir K
May I suggest another approach: make permissions same way as with cups printing:
'lp' group for those who are allowed to print, and 'lpadmin' group for those
who are allowed to manage printers.

Analogous to that: there exists 'netdev' group to allow use and switch existing
connection profiles. Add 'netadmin' group to allow managing system connections.

A simple policy as described here
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Network_manager#Can.27t_edit_connections_as_normal_user
applied to new 'netadmin' group would increase manageability of the system.

Regardless of group policy, new wireless connection profile should be created
with user acl, without asking for privilege escalation.

Bug#666714: emacs: Emacs 23.4+1-2 freezes with 100% CPU usage with option --daemon

2012-04-07 Thread Ivan Vilata i Balaguer
Package: emacs
Version: 23.4+1-2
Followup-For: Bug #666714

As additional info, Emacs in text mode in my computer (i.e. `emacs -nw` or
plain `emacs` without a DISPLAY environment variable) hangs after showing the
Welcome to GNU Emacs screen. However, running `emacs` with normal GUI
support, then running `server-start` from there lets me open and close
`emacsclient` frames normaly, and closing the main Emacs frame afterwards
doesn't result in it getting frozen.

So if you have a running X session, keeping a main Emacs frame open and
starting the server in there may help as a termporary workaround for running
clients.

Bug#666359: cabal-install

2012-04-07 Thread Joachim Breitner
[Resend to people listed as authors, as cabal-devel does not allow
non-subscribers to post. This is not the best behavior for the address
listed in the Maintainers field of a cabal package...]

Thanks,
Joachim

Bug#667906: transition: libffi

2012-04-07 Thread Matthias Klose

Package: release.debian.org
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: transition
Tags: wheezy, sid
Severity: normal

There shouldn't be any new build failures with this transition (at least Ubuntu
didn't see any).

A large number of binNMUs could be avoided if Haskell wouldn't hard code libffi
dependencies in every haskell package (see #639015).

The transition should be done before the freeze for wheezy.

Bug#667908: nginx-full: Add 3rd party module nginx-dav-ext-module

2012-04-07 Thread Chris
Package: nginx-full
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

the nginx webdav module are missing the PROPFIND OPTIONS commands for
full WebDAV support. This two commands are available in a 3rd party
module available here:

https://github.com/arut/nginx-dav-ext-module

Are there any chances to add this ext module to the nginx-full package?

Thanks in advance
