Bug#758746: [NOT FIXED] kde-workspace-bin: Energy saving schemes have no effect
Updating ‘cgmanager’ up to version 0.33-2 indeed solves the issue with polkit / logind: $ qdbus --system org.freedesktop.login1 \ /org/freedesktop/login1 \ org.freedesktop.login1.Manager.CanSuspend now returns ‘yes’, while before update: ‘challenge’; and so $ qdbus --system org.freedesktop.login1 \ /org/freedesktop/login1 \ org.freedesktop.login1.Manager.Suspend true now works properly, while before update it returned: ‘Permission denied’. But KDE does not care – items ‘Suspend’ and ‘Hibernate’ in KMenu, KRunner, etc are still absent, KDE’s power management schemes still have no effect. So the problem seems to be more complicated. This might be related: $ qdbus org.freedesktop.PowerManagement.Inhibit \ /org/freedesktop/PowerManagement \ org.freedesktop.PowerManagement.CanSuspend false And yes, when the init is ‘systemd-sysv’ (not ‘sysvinit-core’) all works as expected. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Andrew Kelley superjo...@gmail.com X-Debbugs-CC: debian-de...@lists.debian.org * Package name: node-fd-slicer Version : 0.3.2 Upstream Author : Andrew Kelley superjo...@gmail.com * URL : https://github.com/andrewrk/node-fd-slicer * License : Expat Programming Lang: JavaScript Description : safely create multiple ReadStreams or WriteStreams from the same fd - Node.js module This module provides an API for creating multiple ReadStreams or WriteStreams from the same file descriptor. . The official Node.js API docs say that it is unsafe to use fs.write multiple times on the same file without waiting for the callback. This module solves this problem. . fd-slicer also provides additional features that builtin fs.createWriteStream is lacking, such as progress events and setting a maximum size to write. . Node.js is an event-based server-side JavaScript engine. . An older version of this module is bundled with node-yauzl. However now fd-slicer has a few more features and the new upstream version of node-multiparty depends on it. . I plan to maintain this as part of the pkg-javascript team.

Bug#731547: Bug located to glib.
Control: reassign 731547 libglib2.0-0 2.42.0-2 Control: tags 731547 + patch Control: retitle 731547 glib not handling -1 return from sysconf I have investigated this on the porterbox, and located the bug to glib. Patch is attached. The bug is due to that when the return value of sysconf (a long) is compared to the variable stack_size (an unsigned long) the values have to be converted to a common type in order to do the comparison. This common type is chosen by the compiler to be unsigned long - which is correct behaviour according to the C language standard. When sysconf returns -1 this is therefore converted to ULONG_MAX in order to do the comparison and this is of course then always considered to be the higher value. So the stack_size allocated for the thread becomes -1 bytes. When the thread starts and allocates memory in this non-existing stack it overwrites memory already in use by other threads. The patch checks that the value returned by sysconf is positive before comparing it to the variable stack_size. The lag comes and goes every minutes or so, I can't correlate it to any activity (idleness?). I tried to grab some profiles and stack traces using 'perf' (attached) of a test that demonstrates this bug. I am pretty new to 'perf' so YMMV. The test is pressing Up and Down once every 1-2 seconds in aptitute in a terminal, which lags by 1-2 seconds consistently. During the lags, it looks like the CPU is spending most of the time in nvidia_drv.so or maybe in the kernel beneath that module (e.g. perf.report_4.txt). I could be totally wrong here. Unfortunately, I can't get perf to produce stack traces when the CPU is in any section of the NVIDIA Xorg nvidia_drv.so module (Closed source. Lack of debug symbols? Unusual compilation options that prevent stack unwinding?). If anyone has any suggestions on how to even get such an Xorg stacktrace of the call stack above the NVIDIA bits let me know and I can try to get it. It might help pinpoint what specific X calls to the driver are having issues and suggest a narrower test. Bug#736782: roundcube: diff for NMU version 0.9.5+dfsg1-4.1
Control: tags 736782 + pending Dear maintainer, I've prepared an NMU for roundcube (versioned as 0.9.5+dfsg1-4.1) and uploaded it to DELAYED/10. Please feel free to tell me if I should delay it longer. This is a fix #736782, which is blocking roundcube getting into jessie. I've give it a brief test and it seemed to work but I am a (very) casual roundcube user so I doubt I'd notice anything subtle. Note that the .orig.tar.gz is by necessity repackaged now. I've arranged for uscan to do this automatically when it downloads it. If you keep this arrangement naturally this means you should use uscan to download the .orig.tar.gz from now on. The diff has had the files removed from the .orig.tar.gz below. Lines 1000's of characters long don't help clarity. It also presumably compiles to code using SSE4 instructions on x86-based architectures, which means it won't work on older x86 processors which Debian aims to support. I've attached a patch which fixes debian/rules to pass the correct options to the upstream build system (which seem to have changed between 1.2.1 and 1.2.2). I've test built this on x86_64 and verified from the build log that the SSE4-related options get set correctly. If you'd like me to NMU this fix, just let me know. Bug#763720: Please enable the vst plugin on i386 and amd64
[Tobias Doerffel] I do however not know how to instruct pbuilder to install packages from a foreign architecture. I have not been able to find a notation that work, and suspect the automatic package builders do not accept multiarch build dependencies. I thus suspect a different apprach is needed, and have disabled the vst plugin on amd64. The build did not work on i386 either, so I have disabled it there too. :( Not sure how important it is to include the vst plugin, as I am no regular user of lmms myself. If someone is able to provide working patches (as in package build in pbuilder on amd64 and i386), I'll try again. -- Happy hacking Petter Reinholdtsen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#765101: Dealing with the conflicting dbus policies?
Hello Josh, Josh Triplett [2014-10-14 7:03 +0200]: Given the increasing desire to install systemd-shim even on systems moving to systemd, both to make init=/lib/sysvinit/init work and to smooth the transition as part of 746578, I think we need a better solution for this problem than just updating systemd-shim every time systemd's dbus policy changes. Agreed. Simple solution: given that systemd-shim exists to help run systemd services without systemd as PID 1, how about making systemd-shim depend on systemd, which contains those services? IMHO this would be the way to go now. I think systemd-shim shipping its own version of the policy is a leftover from the time when Ubuntu split systemd-services, and did not install the systemd package. But now there's only the systemd package in both Debian and Ubuntu. So I think dropping the D-BUS policy from -shim entirely is now possible, correct, and desirable. Steve, do you agree? Bug#765327: lintian fails if the machine has a link-local IPv6 nameserver configured
Package: libnet-dns-perl,lintian Severity: normal This is likely a bug in libnet-dns-perl but I wonder if there are network accesses from lintian. % lintian ./openclonk_5.5.1-1_amd64.changes warning: Cannot load check binaries unresolvable name: fe80::4ee6:76ff:fe51:ae30%eth0 at /usr/share/perl5/Email/Valid.pm line 41. This is due to: % cat /etc/resolv.conf [...] nameserver 10.0.3.1 nameserver fe80::4ee6:76ff:fe51:ae30%eth0 [...] The syntax is perfectly valid and understood by glibc, but apparently libemail-valid-perl tries to resolve(!?) it and fails. No, it just loads Net::DNS::Resolver: $Resolver = Net::DNS::Resolver-new; So it seems what explodes is Resolver/Base.pm's nameservers sub. Bug#762571: Patch for libvorbis (Was: Debdiff)
[Martin Steghöfer] Here you go, that's what fixed the issue for me (attached debdiff). Disclaimer: Not sure, if I did the debdiff 100% correct, libvorbis uses source format 1.0 and I've never worked with non-quilt packages before. I haven't done much testing of the patched library, either (I'm not a regular user of libvorbis). Thank you very much. I used it when uploading an NMU fixing this issue and a few others. I converted the source format to 3.0 (quilt) in the process, to make it easier to track changes done to the upstream source. Please test the new library and let me know if there are any problems with the NMU. Perhaps you can want to join the Debian Xiph.org Maintainers group. I suspect they could use some fresh blood. :) Their mailing list could use a moderator using the listadmin package, that is for sure. Bug#758116: Any news about Blends in tasks selection (Was: Debian Installer Jessie Beta 2 release)

I wonder what might be the opinion of the installer team about bug #758116 which contains the suggestion to add Blends to the tasks selection menu and whether we could do something to help with the implementation. The bug report received a lot of agreement from people working in different Blends but only one question[1] of Joey Hess probably wearing his tasksel maintainer hat. For me it is not clear whether this is an issue of deciding what Blend to include (Joey's question was targeting into this direction) or whether you hesitate to implement this at all. Since it is not clear whether you think this kind of menu is sensible or not we did not yet mindet providing patches or so to support your work. Some kind of statement could be motivating to provide more work on the technical side. Kind regards and thanks again for your work on the installer Andreas. [1] https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=758116#140 well to be honest the whole blend story came as a surprise. Ahhh, this in turn is surprising for me since the first version of this bug is dated 24 Mar 2003 (#186085) :-). But I agree that Blends are not widely known even if I was proactively running around since more than ten years telling people Is there a topic in Debian you care about? Create a Blend today! as Asheesh advised me in last years DebConf talk[1 - just see the linked subtitles text to save time - it is *very* speaking for the whole topic!] In other words: I perfectly know the fact that Blends are widely ignored even amongst Debian developers and that's not about you / the debian-boot team - perhaps my running around and tell people is just not the right way to convince people. At least I can tell that those people who were listening started to like the idea [see 1]. I think we identified quite early in the release cycle that we would need to finally do something about the desktop situation (which first landed in D-I Jessie Beta 2). Well, Blends and the desktop situation could be considered orthogonal. The main goal of a Blend is not primarily to tweak the desktop (even if this could be done). It is rather about the applications. In Debian Med we even have a cluster task which contains exclusively those packages which can be run without a graphical desktop (bio-cloud [2]). Blends were first mentioned during a DC'14 talk in late August. To be precise: Blends (formerly Custom Debian Distributions - yes, I'm *not* responsible for this broken name :-() was mentioned on *any* DebConf I joined with exception of DebConf 0 where this idea was not yet born. If you scroll down my talks page[3] you stumble upon DebConf 1 in Bordeaux 2001 as first time presenting the idea on a DebConf. Any of my talks raised the question, whether there is a menu in the installer to a) get an easy installation method and b) propagate the Blends concept (which is obviously needed). It might have been the fault of people who care about Blends that they did not approached the Debian Boot team earlier, yes. The reason why at least I stayed away from this since 2003 (#186085) was that I have seen little chances to change the refusal. However, since recently some Blends of some more general interest like Debian Games and Debian GIS started or gained some traktion resp. the idea came up to rise this question on IRC in the DebConf talk. At the moment my personal feeling about this is that it looks a bit late, and I'm almost certainly not going to drive such changes myself. I perfectly agree that you as the one person army keeping Debian Boot alive (hey, do you like the Blends born idea to prove this point[4]??) should not spend extra time cycles into the implementation. I don't have any strong incentive to prevent other people from working on this though. (Of course, any work should happen sooner than later.) That's in fact a quite motivating incentive and I perfectly agree that we really should start rather yesterday than today. The thing is that it is not really clear to me, what we should do rather than adding the packages edu-tasks games-tasks gis-tasks junior-tasks med-tasks science-tasks debichem-tasks ezgo-tasks (multimedia-tasks is not ready according to their maintainer[5]) to the boot disks. Joey Hess as tasksel maintainer mentioned limited amount of space in tasksel for blends but this does not give a sensible hint of what exact action we should do now. Bug#742578: reopen, retitle 742578, and add details
reopen 742578 ! reassign 742578 apt retitle 742578 --simulate (etc) dropped from apt summary 742578 apt-get man-page still includes --summary --no-act, Debian wiki tutorial depends on --no-act thank you The Debian wiki at: https://wiki.debian.org/BuildingAPackage/SourceInVCS currently relies on --no-act as follows: Vcs-* fields If apt-get source --no-act $package outputs a message like this: NOTICE: 'fdupes' packaging is maintained in the 'Git' version control system at: git://git.debian.org/users/morph/fdupes.git Perhaps either of the following would solve this bug - allowing this option again for apt-get, or both: - removing the options from apt-get's man page, - and putting alternative command in tutorial above (I don't know what that command would be sorry) Note that the comment from Ritesh below (above) The newer versions of apt have completely replaced --simulate with -s. is incorrect, as far as I can see - see my test commands below, where all of -s and --simulate and the other variations (--no-act etc) all fail to work as per apt-get's manual page. The option is in the man-page for apt-get, not in the man page for apt, and produces the same error as above, for both. This is why I transferred the bug to apt package, because to me it looks like a bug, and a debian.org tutorial (reprepro I think) says that option is needed with apt-get source, to get certain output (such as the vcs url for source package cloning). Do you think this is an error for apt/apt-get? Thanks Zenaan On 10/13/14, Ritesh Raj Sarraf r...@debian.org wrote: Why did you reassign it to apt ? This bug actually should be closed now. Bug#758116: Any news about Blends in tasks selection (Was: Debian Installer Jessie Beta 2 release)
Hi Cyril, On Tue, Oct 14, 2014 at 10:14:53AM +0200, Cyril Brulebois wrote: In other words: I perfectly know the fact that Blends are widely ignored even amongst Debian developers and that's not about you / the debian-boot team - perhaps my running around and tell people is just not the right way to convince people. At least I can tell that those people who were listening started to like the idea [see 1]. to clarify a bit: my surprise was about blends support in tasksel/d-i. I've known about blends for a while but I don't think that topic popped up in my debian-boot radar during the whole Jessie release cycle. I admit I expected *you* to know about Blends for a while - but considering the video recorded quote I think I was not wrong using this chance to point this out for other readers of this mail as it is really a fact that I always meet DDs who mix up this concept with derivatives. I meant the needed changes in tasksel to support both desktop selection and blends. OK. ... earlier, yes. Blends… support in d-i (during this release cycle) was what I meant, sorry for being unclear. Hopefully that was covered by the above clarification. ;) Yes it was. :-) However, I also had taken the chance to refer to an earlier bug (perhaps also to review its old arguments). I perfectly agree that you as the one person army keeping Debian Boot alive (hey, do you like the Blends born idea to prove this point[4]??) should not spend extra time cycles into the implementation. That really isn't true, there are many other developers, reporters, and patch providers. I'm only adding glue or oil where needed… Of course we could do with more hands (look at the BTS), but I'm far for being the only one working on d-i. I agree that my term was a bit in terms of a compliment in the sense of a friendly lie. I was not trying to underestimate the work of those people who are providing smaller contributions. However, you really find lots of graphs similar like[4] which show the feature of one dominant person at a certain time. Perhaps you take this as: Thanks for the effort you spent obviously for debian-boot. That's in fact a quite motivating incentive and I perfectly agree that we really should start rather yesterday than today. I think currently eight additional lines is not that much. I also totally contradict to Joey's statement The 'Debian Pure Blends' effort has been around for several releases and been publicised. and I take [1] as sufficient argument that it is not the case. Blends were never ever regarded in practice as some Debian internal thing and *every* time when I talk about Blends on conferences and in private discussions I will be asked: Why don't you do this cool stuff right into Debian instead of a derivative? It would *really* help in this kind of discussion to point to the Debian installer ... So if we would get some helping hand what exactly technically needs to be done, we could try to come up with some solution. I'm not sure we have 8 slots at the moment. I'm pretty sure a scrollbar (if at all feasible) in a multi-choice menu would be a bad idea. I agree here. However, I think it would be a shame to drop a good idea (and as far as I understood the responses to the bug it is considered good by several people) since we failed to find a sensible menu design. Maybe we'd need a separate prompt for blends. I perfectly agree that some additional menu level would be the most natural way in my eyes. I think I mentioned this before. Hmmm, just wondering why I can't find this term in the previous bugreport(s) since I always imagined this. May be there is no instance of this since there never was a real discussion whether we should do it
Bug#765332: [Pkg-stud-maintainers] Bug#765332: stud: The upstream is no longer maintained
❦ 14 octobre 2014 10:54 +0200, Michal Trojnara michal.trojn...@mirt.net : The upstream for stud seems to be dead, as the team that authored and supported this software no longer exists. I'm not sure whether it affects the Debian package or not. I could not find anything on this topic in the Debian policy. Further details can be found on http://blog.bu.mp/: We are now deeply focused on our new projects within Google, and we've decided to discontinue Bump and Flock. Hi Michal! I agree that stud is currently dead. Upstream doesn't even have time to tag a new version (which could be useful because there are some interesting features). On the other hand, because the codebase is relatively small, it is easy to maintain as is. As far as I know it can still fill its role (but the 0.3 version doesn't have support for EC cryptography). Bug#744249: libgtk-3-0: gtk 3.12 breaks usability by forcing client side decorations on X11
Hi, I think a misunderstanding has occurred here. ... If GTK3 forces CSD on non-Gnome apps that don't use it explicitly, that IS a bug in GTK3. But if ONLY Gnome apps get CSD, that could be seen as a bug in THEM (or in Gnome) and not in GTK3. Indeed, I didn't get it right... The situation was/is like this: - GTK+ 3.12 forced CSD on all dialog windows and subwindows, making it impossible to resize them with a mouse in the environments other than Gnome Shell. This included not only Gnome apps, but any other GTK+3 apps as well (e.g. Synaptic). - GTK+ 3.14 removed [1] that feature. Now all the dialog windows have CSD only if GTK+ decides it works best in the current environment. In practice it means the dialogs in _all_ GTK+3 apps don't have forced CSD anymore if you're using MATE, Xfce, LXDE, etc. (in other words - not Gnome Shell) - In both GTK+ 3.12 and 3.14, most of the Gnome apps still have CSD in their _main_ windows. That means they're still not resizable with a mouse in the environments other than Gnome Shell, and that's still a bug. [1] http://blogs.gnome.org/mclasen/2014/07/28/a-talk-in-9-images/

Bug#764372: About pkg-config for BLAS/LAPACK
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA256 Hi Sebastian On 10/10/2014 20:18, Sébastien Villemot wrote: Hi Alastair, I saw your reports about adding pkg-config support for BLAS and LAPACK implementations (#764372 and #764491). I am basically in agreement with this change, but I don't have the time to take care of it before the jessie freeze. So, if you want to have this change in Jessie, feel free to do a Team Upload (or a DELAY/0 NMU if you're not in the Debian Science Team). However, if you do that, please also make similar changes at the same time to atlas (adding both a blas-atlas.pc and lapack-atlas.pc) and to lapack (adding a lapack-netlib.pc). Thanks, I will do so when I've added a lapack patch. Also, I don't think that cblas.pc is the right name for the blas package pkg-config file (cblas is a C interface to the Fortran 77 BLAS routines). I would rather call that file blas-netlib.pc. I agree, blas-netlib.pc is better and more consistent. For the openblas case, I don't think it makes much sense to set libdir to /usr/lib/openblas (though it does not harm), since actually the symlink /usr/lib/libblas.a will point to the right place. It is possible that openblas is installed and the symlink is manually set for netlib, for example. In this case using pkg-config blas-openblas would give the wrong results.
Finally, I don't understand why you say that your .pc file for OpenBLAS enables linking to OpenBLAS both generically and explicitly. Actually, it only enables generic linking to a BLAS alternative. Bug#663185:
Hi all, I already created a package for the latest version on my local for-personal-use-only repo since months now. I'd like to share it but I didn't fully understand how to do it the debian way. The midori upstream changed the build system to cmake so the new package is simpler than before but fresh, so I'd like to submit it somewhere for a review and to (hopefully) contribute to it's inclusion in the official debian repos. Bug#765179: RFS: yubikey-neo-manager/0.2.2-1 [ITP] -- YubiKey NEO management graphical user interface
On Mon, 2014-10-13 at 21:35 +0200, Simon Josefsson wrote: Dear mentors, I am looking for a sponsor for our package yubikey-neo-manager: Hello Simon! Thank you for your help in packaging the yubikey neo manager for Debian! I've got a few things that might need fixing up for you to take a look at. Thank you! Cc'ing Dain who has wrote the project. - The file neoman/libloader has a different copyright than the rest of the code, both in license and copyright holder. It needs to be specified in d/copyright Good catch! Dain, is it needed? I added it to debian/copyright meanwhile. - Do you want debian/* to be copyrighted by Yubico, or should it be copyrighted by you? (This may or may not be a question for legal counsel.) Having debian/* be owned by Yubico is fine, we are the same group of people working on both upstream and the packaging, and all are bound to Yubico. - There are several pixmap files being installed under /usr/lib; architecture independent files should be installed under /usr/share. - Icons in the Debian menu system should be 32x32 at the largest - the /usr/share/pixmap/neoman.xpm, file is 128x128. Yep, we are trying to figure these two out -- do you happen to know how to get high-res menu icons? 32x32 is really crappy, and there ought to be a way to provide a better image. - There is a substitution variable ${python:Provides}, but there isn't a substitution variable for that. What are you trying to get from that? Likely cut'n'paste issue, I dropped it. I have built and uploaded a new version to mentors. Thanks, again, for packaging these tools. I have a NEO on my keychain, so this definitely caught my eye! Glad to hear that :-) Btw, are you a DD? If you would be willing to sponsor this, that would be appreciated. /Simon signature.asc Description: PGP signature

As far as I know it can still fill its role (but the 0.3 version doesn't have support for EC cryptography). The big question is: should it be removed now or should it be removed in jessie+1? Unless you have enough time to take over the upstream, it's probably best to remove stud before Jessie is frozen.
