yes you are right of course, that's no question.

For me the question is "Need we this at all and in what way?"

Thomas (Lange) and myself have spoken and discussed a lot about the
structure of www.d.o and the first realization we came to was that the
website has a really complicated and bloated structure that is hindering
us in every small corner to make a visible progress in modernize and
update the content. And if "we" (means the rather long time members) do
it all on our own we also wont ever find new contributors for that
because it's to complicated and to expensive to dig in.

The solution for every big problem is to split of the big problem into
smaller problems. Cutting out the currently implemented wnpp part would
be one of the rather smaller problems on the road.

We can and should discuss how we can do this.

This issue happened again on my system, and I was able to confirm that
the system (and networking) recovers fine after unplugging the Netgear

was connecting the system using the on-board ethernet and not that wifi
adapter (the wifi was left unassociated). I'll leave it unplugged and
see if the system works fine now.

lightdm-gtk-greeter currently ignores the system default themes, due to a

Bug#971327: libopenshot dependency on libavresample

Greetings, one of the libopenshot maintainers here.

libopenshot not only supports swresample, but uses it in place of
avresample for all LIBAVFORMAT_VERSION_MAJOR >= 57 (which corresponds to
slightly before the ffmpeg 3.0 release). The dependency on libavresample in
those cases is completely superfluous. Please do remove it from the package
configuration.

Dear Maintainer,

The file "/usr/share/dict/ogerman" contains the word

Atomzerstrümmerung

that I happened upon by chance and that misspells the word "Zertrümmerung".

I confirmed this is the case with version 1:2-36.

wnpp.debian.net is an unofficial service that could go away at any
moment if the Debian member sponsoring the domain leaves Debian or the
contributor providing the service decides to shut it down. I think it
would be better to not rely on it for things that we don't need to
rely on it for and rely on it for things that aren't implemented
anywhere else.

Bug#971645: sshfs: truncates timestamps to whole seconds

2020-10-03 Thread Adam Borowski
Package: sshfs
Version: 3.7.0+repack-1
Severity: normal

Hi!
sshfs sets the sub-second part of timestamps to 0. This happens both
on read (stat) and on write (utimensat).

This means, the metadata of a file copied over sshfs will be different,
causing unnecessary whole-file comparisons, etc.

Strictly speaking, some historic filesystems have a large granularity
(FAT has 2s...), but anything Unixy has standardized on 1ns since a long
time ago, thus too many things assume timestamps to pass through
uncorrupted.

And sshfs has no historic wire protocols to care about, thus this piece
of metadata loss doesn't seem intentional.

Bug#971644: elogind: accidentally hitting Fn-F12 crashes the system (dirty filesystem)

2020-10-03 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Package: elogind
Version: 243.7-1+debian1
Severity: critical
Justification: causes serious data loss
X-Debbugs-Cc: t...@mirbsd.de

Yay, I found another behavioural difference between just running Debian
(classic, that is, sysvinit withOUT elogind) and Debian with elogind (to
satisfy certain packages’ dependencies, I certainly do not need any of
its functionality!).

This is in the same manner as #919694 (*why* is that still unfixed‽)
and #949698 (now fixed).

I’m working on an IBM Thinkpad X61, which has a “suspend to disc”
symbol printed in blue on the F12 key, which means Fn-F12 would, if
the operating system handles it, suspend to hard disc.

This key never did anything without elogind installed.

I just hit it by accident. The system immediately(!) became fully
unresponsible (could not even move the mouse pointer), but my xterm
with tail -F /var/log/syslog captured a number of lines. The first
three of it were:

Oct  4 01:09:22 tglase-nb vmunix: [1043273.743227] elogind-daemon[1640]:
Hibernate key pressed.
Oct  4 01:09:22 tglase-nb vmunix: [1043273.747348] elogind-daemon[1640]:
Hibernating...
Oct 4 01:09:22 tglase-nb vmunix: [1043273.749104] PM: Image not found (code
-22)

This is clear evidence that elogind *actively* captured that keypress
and did something not normal (i.e. not present on a standard pre-systemd
system without elogind). Whatever it did apparently failed, but it STILL
proceeded to crash the whole system (with the screen flickering a number
of times and then the system suddenly powering off).

Upon starting it again (losing all my state, unsaved files I was writing,
and all that), I’ve seen the usual messages about problems with a dirty
filesystem, so it’s evident that elogind positively, actively crashed the
system instead of shutting it down cleanly, or, (which would have been the
correct thing to do) just returning and not doing *anything* after that
whatever it tried to do failed.

The other log messages I saw flickering by in xterm are, of course, not
preserved (ext4 “helpfully” inserted a whole block of NUL characters into
my /var/log/syslog file, though).

Now, from evidence to guesswork: from reading the log, I’m guessing it
actually *did* try to suspend to disc, failing to do so (naturally, as
this system is not set up for it, namely, the RAM is much larger than
the swap space, and no equivalent to Windows® 2000’s HIBERFIL.SYS was
set up either, mostly because I do not even *use* hibernation, nor do
I *want* it). But, like I said, that failure was mishandled.

Considering I actually lost (a small amount of) user data, I feel the
severity justified.

I’ve also just looked at the elogind.conf file I was told to change in
one of the two other bugreports I mentioned above. There is some config
regarding hibernation, so I guess, now that I know about the problem,
I could just turn off as a WORKAROUND *ONLY* (I *assume* changing
#HandleHibernateKey=hibernate
to  HandleHibernateKey=ignore
might do the trick) but then I wonder why this is not ignored by default,
and the failure to handle suspend-to-disc failure is still present (and
someone should probably check if systemd similarily suffers).

Anyway, this bugreport should point out something more: People *need*
to install libpam-elogind to satisfy package dependencies, which forces
elogind installation alongside; elogind now runs a dæmon which changes
system behaviour (compared to regular pre-systemd Debian) in unpredictable
ways, much to users’ detriment.

I believe there exist users who would wish for all these features, but
to me, who doesn’t even need them in the first place, a way of satisfying
packages without piling new bugs onto the system is direly needed.

Sorry for any grumpiness here, I’ve just lost some work and quite an
amount of session state and it’s half past one in the bloody night and
I visited the manuls (pallas cats) in the zoo earlier which provide for
appropriate grumpiness; I don’t intend any insult or something towards
any living being (just towards software).

By the way one gets different behavior with if(v->buf + v->used == NULL)
vs. if(v->buf + v->used) even on uninstrumented binaries. With the latter
I get a bunch of lines like
size is not zero
size is not zero
size is not zero
...
and then later it alternates:
size is zero
size is not zero
size is zero
size is not zero
...

Bug#971643: null pointer dereference with dpkg -V

2020-10-03 Thread John Scott
Package: dpkg
Version: 1.20.5
Severity: normal
Tags: upstream
X-Debbugs-Cc:

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256

I cannot reproduce this on a Debian binary package. Hardening flags like
FORTIFY_SOURCE may keep this from being an issue. I found this fooling
around with ASan:
$ ./dpkg --admindir='/var/lib/dpkg' -V apt
varbuf.c:99:3: runtime error: null pointer passed as argument 1, which is
declared to never be null

Here's the relevant bit of code with a check to diagnose:
void varbuf_add_buf(struct varbuf *v, const void *s, size_t size)
{
varbuf_grow(v, size);
+   if(v->buf + v->used == NULL) {
+   puts((size == 0) ? "size is zero" : "size is not zero");
+   }
memcpy(v->buf + v->used, s, size);
v->used += size;
}

This prints "size is zero", so maybe that's why this seems harmless:
memcpy() may not do anything and the same may go for adding 'size'.

I bisected the upstream commits and figured out that the problem was introduced
by commit 9b26ceaaba9796bc9e18f375be91da16a4aae04d. Upon closer inspection, I
noticed, that one renaming from LIB to FAKEROOT_LIB was omitted. The problem is
fixed by this patch:

Without this patch, the value of LD_PRELOAD will be ignored. This in turn
breaks other tools that rely on LD_PRELOAD like fakechroot. Without this patch:

$ fakechroot fakeroot sh -c 'echo $LD_PRELOAD'

With this patch:

$ fakechroot fakeroot sh -c 'echo $LD_PRELOAD'

Nope, but this bug was ported to Centos 8 and probably other distros.
TBH, looks like widespread bootchain sabotage to me.

BTW, NSA released technical report about secureboot recently:
https://media.defense.gov/2020/Sep/15/2002497594/-1/-1/0/CTR-UEFI-SECURE-BOOT-CUSTOMIZATION-20200915.PDF/CTR-UEFI-SECURE-BOOT-CUSTOMIZATION-20200915.PDF

Interesting fact, they skip initramdrive verification as well, and
modern distros make it's verification next to impossible.

Bug#971642: logidee-tools: Fails to build w/ latest TeX Live checkout

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?

Recently we uploaded a new snapshot of the TeX Live texmf tree into Debian.
For our texlive-lang part a regression is reported: your package does not
build any more.

https://qa.debian.org/excuses.php?package=texlive-lang

Excuse for texlive-lang

Migration status for texlive-lang (2020.20200804-1 to 2020.20200925-1):

Additional info:
Piuparts tested OK -
https://piuparts.debian.org/sid/source/t/texlive-lang.html

The error message in the build log gives the idea that a LaTeX package is not
loaded either by the TeX code or the used LaTeX class file:

ABD: EveryShipout initializing macros

! LaTeX Error: Command \fnum@table undefined.

See the LaTeX manual or LaTeX Companion for explanation.
Type  H   for immediate help.

I'm able to reproduce the issue here in a Debian unstable installation and
I could fix it by loading the longtable LaTeX package in the cls file.

Consider to upload a fixed package if you like the solution.

It built fine, so I merged it in the experimental branch.
Helmut: we plan to push a new Qt version "soon", so this particular
fix will be in there.

For the rest of the questions I still need to seat and check them,
although I think calling the build arch's qmake should be just fine.

Bug#971641: dpkg-parsechangelog: displays maintainer based on most recent uploader, rather than maintainer at time of change

2020-10-03 Thread Wm Salt Hale
Package: dpkg-parsechangelog
Version: 1.19.7
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

When using dpkg-parsechangelog with the `--show-field maintainer` flag, I
noticed that the maintainer was showing the wrong individual.

Upon further inspection, it appears that this field is set based on the most
recent change, rather than using the maintainer that submitted the change.

This can be problematic, especially in cases of "Non-maintainer upload". An
example of this can be seen by issuing the following commands:

```
curl -s "https://metadata.ftp-master.debian.org/changelogs//main/libn/libnet-
dns-perl/libnet-dns-perl_1.19-1_changelog" | dpkg-parsechangelog --show-field
maintainer -v 0.68-1.2 -l -
```

I suspect that a complete fix will require adding a new field which references
the uploader.

When break=mountroot is specified in the kernel parameter, the

resulting those mount_* functions overriden by the stubs.

Bug#971638: live-boot: multiple stages cannot be specified to kernel command parameter break=

2020-10-03 Thread Wang Shanker
Package: live-boot
Version: 1:20190614
Severity: important
Tags: patch upstream

Since Stretch, initramfs-tools has provided support for specifying
multiple stages for the parameter break=, which was introduced in
the commit b215c18c of initramfs-tools (#795832). However, the function
`maybe_break` gets overriden in live-boot and multiple stages cannot be
specified. This can be reproduced by creating a live-boot image and use
qemu to boot it:

```
debootstrap --variant=minbase --merged-usr buster rootfs
chroot rootfs/ apt-get install --no-install-recommends linux-image-amd64
live-boot busybox live-tools
chroot rootfs/ bash -c '/usr/sbin/busybox --list-full | while read cmd; do [ !
-e "$cmd" ] && ln -s /sbin/busybox "$cmd"; done'
mksquashfs rootfs/ livetest.squashfs -noI -noD -noF -noX -noappend -e boot
ln -s rootfs/vmlinuz rootfs/initrd.img ./
python3 -m http.server 8000 &
qemu-system-x86_64 -cpu kvm64 -machine pc,accel=kvm -smp
cpus=1,cores=1,sockets=1 -m 2G  -chardev stdio,mux=on,id=char0 -netdev
user,id=net0 -device e1000e,netdev=net0,id=net0 -monitor chardev:char0 -serial
chardev:char0 -kernel vmlinuz -initrd initrd.img -append
'fetch=http://xx.xx.xx.xx:8000/livetest.squashfs boot=live toram console=ttyS0
break=mount,mountroot,bottom'
```

In the above senario, the boot process only stops at ``mount" stage, but
not at ``mountroot" and ``bottom".

The following patch can fix this bug by directly calling the original
`maybe_break` function provided by initramfs-tools.

Bug#968971: gitlab: Can't create new project: undefined method `set_attribute_was'

2020-10-03 Thread Antoine Le Gonidec

Here I am running 13.2.8-1+fto10+2 on top of a Debian Buster, following the recommended
"FastTrack" installation method.

I get a similar error related to a missing "set_attribute_was" method when
trying to add a new push mirror to an existing repository.

The only mentions I found of this method are in the following packages:
- ruby-acts-as-taggable-on:
/usr/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/acts_as_taggable_on/taggable/core.rb
- ruby-attr-encrypted:
/usr/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/attr_encrypted/adapters/active_record.rb

Both are installed from Buster backports:
- ruby-acts-as-taggable-on: 6.5.0-2~bpo10+1
- ruby-attr-encrypted: 3.1.0-2~bpo10+1

The method "set_attribute_was" used to be provided by ruby-activemodel in its
5.* version (Buster and official Buster backports), but is not part of the 6.* version
(FastTrack-provided backports).

If I remove the calls to "set_attribute_was" from the two listed .rb files and
restart the gitlab service, I no longer get the crash on addition of a new push mirror. I
attached the edited source files to this e-mail for testing purposes, but keep in mind
that I am not a Ruby developer, I only removed some part of the scripts without worrying
about the consequences. If you use these edited files without a careful review, things
are expected to break in unexpected ways ;)

Bug#971634: RFS: btrfsmaintenance/0.5-1 -- automate btrfs maintenance tasks on mountpoints or directories

2020-10-03 Thread Nicholas D Steeves
Package: sponsorship-requests
Severity: normal

Dear mentors and Sven,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package "btrfsmaintenance":

 * Package name: btrfsmaintenance
   Version : 0.5-1
   Upstream Author : David Sterba
 * URL : https://github.com/kdave/btrfsmaintenance
 * License : GPL-2
 * Vcs : https://salsa.debian.org/sten-guest/btrfsmaintenance
   Section : admin

It builds those binary packages:

  btrfsmaintenance - automate btrfs maintenance tasks on mountpoints or
directories

To access further information about this package, please visit the following
URL:

  https://mentors.debian.net/package/btrfsmaintenance/

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command:

  dget -x
https://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/b/btrfsmaintenance/btrfsmaintenance_0.5-1.dsc

Changes since the last upload:

 btrfsmaintenance (0.5-1) unstable; urgency=medium
 .
   * New upstream release. (Closes: #970732)
 - /etc/default/btrfsmaintenance now optionally supports more granular
   systemd time and date specification.
 - balance, scrub, and trim are finally serialised as mutually exclusive
   operations.
 - Default filters for btrfs balance are now "5 10" for data (from "1 5 10
   20 30 40 50"), and "5" for metadata (from "1 5 10 20 30"); this means
   that less data is rewritten, and that less free space is recovered;
   this change mitigates some of the longstanding negative effects on
   system responsiveness during a balance operation because the work
   completes more quickly.
   * Drop leading white space from NEWS.Debian, and rename the file as "NEWS".
   * README.Debian: Note that btrfsmaintenance is not yet aware of a system's
 power state (on AC, battery, UPS), plus minor edits for polish.
   * README.Debian: Add Qu Wenruo's position against balancing, with
 citation.
   * Switch to debhelper-compat 13.
   * Override dh_installdeb to add missing executable bit to BASH scripts.
   * Set Rules-Requires-Root: no.
   * Add 0002-Add-doc-key-to-btrfsmaintenance-refresh.service.patch to address
 lintian complaint systemd-service-file-missing-documentation-key.
   * Update description to address new blk-mq default scheduler.
 (Closes: #970731)
   * Declare Standards-Version: 4.5.0. (No additional changes needed)

Bug#971633: debcargo: Debcargo should provide a man page

Package: debcargo
Version: 2.2.10-1
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

I was trying to figure out how to package a rust package and the Debian wiki
suggested debcargo was the tool to help prepare a pacakge so I installed it.

I then discovered it didn't have any documentation.

Debian policy encourages all packages to provide a manpage.

§12.1 "If no manual page is available, this is considered as a bug and should
be reported to the Debian Bug Tracking System (the maintainer of the package is
allowed to write this bug report themselves, if they so desire). Do not close
the bug report until a proper man page is available"

It would be nice to have some included instructions about how to use debcargo.

Thanks
Diane Trout

While looking at the code, I swore this worked in the past. And so I

paul@mulciber /tmp $ sudo su
root@mulciber:/tmp# touch bla
root@mulciber:/tmp# chmod go-r bla

root@mulciber:/tmp# ls -al bla
-rw--- 1 paul paul 0 okt  3 19:21 bla
root@mulciber:/tmp# exec > bla
bash: bla: Permission denied

However, when I do the following on a stable system:
admin@ci-worker05:/tmp$ sudo su
root@ci-worker05:/tmp# touch bla
root@ci-worker05:/tmp# chmod go-r bla
root@ci-worker05:/tmp# chown admin: bla

root@ci-worker05:/tmp# exec > bla
root@ci-worker05:/tmp# echo hello
root@ci-worker05:/tmp# exit
admin@ci-worker05:/tmp$ cat /tmp/bla

So, this is a regression from buster. I'll need to figure out where this
comes from and/or how to fix this. Suggestions welcome.

As I don't possess any specific java knowledge I cannot judge whether
this will fix the issue you reported. I will send you the deb file

it fixes this bug for you. If it doesn't, I am afraid there is little
what can be done, as upstream is dead.

And it has come to my attention that the default clang will likely end
up being clang 11 for bullseye, so maybe testing with clang-11 instead,
or waiting till the clang default is upgraded in bullseye.

Though clang 11 might become the default for bullseye, in which case
this would be a needless change; I haven't tested if simde builds fine
with clang 11.

Oops, that should have been:

   # Remove when switching to clang 10 or newer.
   export DEB_BUILD_MAINT_OPTIONS=reproducible=-fixfilepath,+fixdebugpath

Though from a reproducible builds perspective, building with a version
of clang that supports -ffile-prefix-map is still preferable to
disabling the feature.

I've reproduced this issue.

nqp-data is missing *.nqp files. Looks like nqp's build system no longer
install these files.

I don't know if this an expected behavior or a bug on nqp side. I've opened
https://github.com/Raku/nqp/issues/675 to track this issue upstream.

In the meantime, I'm going to tweak debian/rules to install the missing nqp
files until this issue is sorted out upstream.

All the best

Yes, I can write a shell test scripts which looks like
https://salsa.debian.org/mariadb-team/mariadb-10.5/-/blob/master/debian/tests/smoke

and verify that (when run from shell) it fails with non-zero
errorlevel in Stretch mariadb, and passes with 0 on Buster mariadb.

If that is enough? (I don't really have resources ATM to setup build
environment and do full-build checks etc)

I'm testing the patch to see if a normal buildstill works (you haven't
at leats mentioned that). I would guess yes... but...

Hello,

after upgrading I tried to reinstall texlive-binaries a first time and
the error was there. Tried a second time and it was gone. Probably on
the first attempt the update-alternatives database was still broken and
needed a repair. Log follows. A third run didn't show the error either.

Thanks again!

Is the 100% CPU usage also expected?

As one debian mirror admins, I also run an rsync server. I often
see rsync using 100% cpu, but I never knew why. I now assume that
the transfer was broken when they were mirroring the .iso image
from me.

Bug#971629: crrcsim: add sceneries and planes to the crrcsim package

2020-10-03 Thread a463b
Package: crrcsim
Version: 0.9.13

This 'bug report' is a very kind request for adding data files to crrcsim:

[A] The first request is to add the data from

http://joel.lienard.free.fr/crrcsim/index-en.html

to the crrcsim package in Debian. These sceneries are really spectacular and
completely transform the experience of crrcsim.

Mr. Liénard was so kind to attribute the "Creative Commons
Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License" to his work today to allow
the inclusion into Linux distributions. The (CC-BY-SA) v4.0 is part of the
DFSGLicenses.

[B] This report also highly suggests that the scenery

LesBusards

of Mr. Liénard's work becomes the default scenery for crrcsim.

After comparing the original default scenery and the LesBusards scenery, I hope
you will agree that LesBusards is as general purpose as the original default
scenery but far more beautiful and realistic.

[C]) If the license for the additional planes

https://sourceforge.net/projects/crrcsim/files/crrcsim-addon-models/CRRCsim-addon-models-0.2.0/

of the original crccsim project is the same as for crccsim itself, then it
would be good to include them into the Debian crrcsim package also.

Sincerely,

Peter

Bug#971627: 100% cpu on resume of transfer

2020-10-03 Thread Kurt Roeckx
Package: rsync
Version: 3.1.3-6

Hi,

I was transfering a large file using rsync (3 TB). The connection
broke after about 1 TB. I was using the -P option. So I restarted
the transfer. But that transfer resulted in 100% CPU usage on the
sender side, and limiting the transfer to about 1.5 MB/s.

It also seems that when I restart the transfer, it first reads the
1 TB on the client side, and then reads the 1 TB on the sender
side, causing a large delay before restarting the transfer.

Both sides have the same version installed.

This bug could be related, it sounds like an iteration problem when updating the

https://github.com/nextcloud/desktop/pull/2435

Backport: https://github.com/nextcloud/desktop/pull/2436

It should be included in 3.0.2 - so I suggest to update to 3.0.2 and close this

Bug#971625: libcups2-dev: please include a cups.pc for pkg-config

2020-10-03 Thread Helmut Grohne
Package: libcups2-dev
Version: 2.3.3-3
Tags: patch
User: debian-cr...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: ftcbfs
Control: affects -1 + src:gnome-settings-daemon

gnome-settings-daemon fails to cross build from source, because it
cannot locate cups. It uses meson to do so an meson attempts multiple
methods. First, it looks for a pkg-config file, but that's missing. Then
it tries cups-config, but those tools are often broken during cross
compilation, so it skips this unless specifically instructed. During
native builds, it locates cups using cups-config. Then it tries cmake
snippets, but those are also missing.

Since pkg-config is well-supported, I think cups should adopt it, too.
I'm attaching a patch that adds a basic cups.pc to the package without
integrating it into the upstream build, because this approach was a lot
simpler and it suffices to show that the solution makes
gnome-settings-daemon cross buildable. Integrating it upstream would
make sense anyhow if upstream agrees. The attached cups.pc is quite
minimal though and does not cover the full functionality that
cups-config provides. If going upstream, it would likely gain a little
more contant. Going upstream would also raise the question of how to
handle cups-config --libs --image. I suppose that this would be turned
into adding a separate cupsimage.pc. Likely, a proper solution involves
discussion with upstream.

Please consider applying and/or upstreaming the attached patch.

I am sorry I failed to annouce it on a list where the people interested
in looking after caldav-tester were present. I am very happy you decide
to take a look at reviving this package. I hope you succeed in porting
it to python 3 and getting feedback from upstream.

Bug#971401: texlive-binaries: triggers update-alternatives warning for bibtex

2020-10-03 Thread Hilmar Preuße

Am 30.09.2020 um 00:09 teilte Gabriele Stilli mit:

Hi Gabriele,

while configuring texlive-binaries, the following warning appeared:

update-alternatives: warning: forcing reinstallation of alternative
/usr/bin/bibtex.original because link group bibtex is broken
update-alternatives: warning: not replacing
/usr/share/man/man1/bibtex.1.gz with a link

The warning is reproducible on subsequent reinstallations.

The new TL base migrated into testing, so the issue should be gone now.
Could you retest?

Bug#966327: ITP: foot -- Fast, lightweight and minimalistic Wayland terminal emulator

2020-10-03 Thread Jonas Smedegaard
Hi,

Thanks for packaging foot!

I notice that several new releases have been issued upstream since the
Debian release now pending in NEW queue. I encourage you release newer
Debian packages - that is handled gracefully by the NEW queue, and eases
work for those like me super-eager to use it and building sneak-peak
local packages from git :-)

Bug#971623: review and simplify the /devel/wnpp section

2020-10-03 Thread Laura Arjona Reina
Package: www.debian.org
User: www.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertag: scripts
Severity: normal

Hi, we received the proposal to add listing of orphaned packages by
popularity in this merge request:

https://salsa.debian.org/webmaster-team/webwml/-/merge_requests/553

I find the idea valuable, but the approach (linking to wnpp.debian.net)
is very different from what we already have in /devel/wnpp section (we
build some lists ourselves with the wnpp.pl script [1], using the data
gathered by the 1ftpfiles script from the cron repo [2].

[1]
https://salsa.debian.org/webmaster-team/webwml/-/blob/master/english/devel/wnpp/wnpp.pl
[2]
https://salsa.debian.org/webmaster-team/cron/-/blob/master/parts/1ftpfiles

Having a look at both the resulting listings that we provide in
www.debian.org/devel/wnpp, and the ones provided in wnpp.debian.net, I
think maybe we could review our old approach and remove most of the
listings we were providing, and link to wnpp.debian.net instead.

This of course would require changes in the wml files in /devel/wnpp
section, the Makefiles, and the scripts in the cron repo.

What do you think?
Kind regards,

As the bug report of Sudip clearly states, these tests are valuable, we
do appreciate them. Even when marked superficial, they will block
dependencies that break your package, so that's OK. Why we want packages
to be marked superficial if they only do trivial testing is because we
treat packages with autopkgtests special in the judgement for migration.
Now a bit. During the freeze a lot more. This special treatment is based
on the understanding that significant testing has a reasonable chance to
prevent bugs in the package itself from migrating to testing.

So, for now it's really the maintainer call. If you believe that you can
test the package in such a way that there's a reasonable chance to catch
(some) bugs, than the autopgktest doesn't need a superficial
restriction. We're not asking for full coverage.

Please, just keep your testing limited to superficial testing if it's
not reasonable to do more, but mark it as such.

Plug (although I don't know how to do it exactly): there's reports that
one can also test GUIs via the accessibility bus. The great advantage of
doing that is that one is also testing for accessibility, which is a
great good IMHO. Maybe there's more to check in the responses from that
bus.

Bug#971618: diaspora: aspects membership list is broken

2020-10-03 Thread Pirate Praveen

Package: diaspora
Version: 0.7.14.0-7
Severity: grave
Control: forwarded -1 https://github.com/diaspora/diaspora/issues/8158

Attaching screenshot of broken aspect selection list. This is possibly
caused by newer version of jquery in debian (upstream is still using
jquery 3.4.1 and we are already on 3.5.1 which dropped support for self
closing html tags).

Though trying with older versions of jquery from
rubygems.org/rails-assets.org (jquery-ui-rails, rails-assets-jquery)
did not fix it. Another possibility is mismatch in backbone.js versions.

I failed to read above as a request for adoption at the time, and still
do.

Please formally orphan or file an RFA to most reliably communicate such
intent.

I assume that the package is now up for adoption, and will act
accordingly - hopefully I did not get here too late and the package gets
kicked out before I can finish my examination.

I'm removing because it's RC-buggy; otherwise, I think orphaning the

We already tried that if I remember, this doesn't help and the issue
remains. Apparently i386 is special in this regard by using 64-bit
extended values [1].

Bug#969672: gnutls28: please upgrade to guile-3.0 soon, if feasible

Andreas Metzler  writes:

> 969640.

Assuming I did it right (guile-3.0-dev was installed along with all
the other build deps, and guile-2.2-dev wasn't), a "fakeroot
debian/rules binary" just built without trouble here using the current
3.6.15-4 package.

I wonder if the problem has been resolved, or maybe it's intermittent,
arch dependent, or something else. And was the failure local, or on the
buildds?

I can double-check in a sid sbuild chroot later. (When it succeeded, I
was just using the system I had handy, which is somewhere between
bullseye and sid (x86_64).)

Hmm, are you sure everything is up to date?

Checking reverse dependencies...

opencv: libopencv-videoio3.2

Looks like this is a binary package, not a source package? Typically
you'd upload a version of the source package which does not build it and
then it'd be removed (automatically or manually).

The question

   "Shall we re-submit, or is that not enough?"

in [1] was never answered and so nothing happened from our side. I have
just re-uploaded - lets see what might happen.

Kind regards

  Andreas.

Could we have separate RM bugs please? Our scripts assume that so this
is currently much more effortful to process.
