As a nice side effect, you can then use a gpg key to authenticate.

The latest HPLIP has been installed.
I have tried installing the proprietary plugin via original HP CD and also
download. Both installs fail because the "cannot find port". I.e. it is looking
for the WiFi port to connect to the printer. Incidentally, the printer WiFi
install does work
