hat these constants are 'int' instead of 'int16' even
though those numbers fit perfectly into 16-bit.
Does gcc-6 require explicit casts for _all_ constants now unless the
lvalue is declared as 'int'? What about 'unsigned char = 128', would
that now trigger a compiler error as well?

Thanks for looking at this!
Would you mind reporting this bug upstream as well?

post the version numbers for lvm2 taken from
the Debian package? I have had a look at the lvm2 git repository
and there don't seem be any big changes after 2.02.142 which
could cause this issue. If we can pinpoint the change that fixed
the bug, we could just cherry-pick the necessary patch.

Probably another case of a user running packages with mixed versions.
Erik, could you just wait a few days for the next dist-upgrade or just upgrade
to unstable?
Reporting bugs in testing is quite pointless at the moment. Either use stable
or unstable, but not testing. The version mishmash of
neovim build-depends on libluajit-5.1-dev,
similar to what haskell-hslua does [2].
Thanks,

What exactly is the point of reporting non-critical bugs against ancient
upstream versions?
I don't think anyone will ever start fixing usability bugs in MATE 1.8.0.

Debian stable gets security fixes and important updates (drivers etc),
but such issues are normally not covered by that.

This is basically the same issue as in #790078 [1], so building with
-mcmodel=large
on sparc64 should be enough to fix the issue.
