Bug#687151: Missing printer driver WINEPS.DRV
Package: wine-bin Version: 1.4.1-2 Severity: important Hello, it is really an improvement that the new wine version is included now. But in this wine version some applications have a problem to open a window. In this case i try to open the print dialog with Irfanview. The result in the shell is: err:dc:CreateDCW no driver found for LWINEPS.DRV Why the printer driver is missing? How can i add it? Another example is an old software from 2001, that runs without problem in wine 1.1.42. Now the application starts with the start window but can't open the main application window? There is no output of an error on the console when you try to debug it? Any ideas how to solve these problems? Package: debian installer Version: 20. When asked for the location of the mirror, i said http://host and /debian/. First, the installer told me that the mirror doesn't contain squeeze and suggested to go back and pick another mirror. Since i didn't want squeeze anyway i just said no, i don't want to go back. The next screen told me that i had to pick a debian variant. Only wheezy was listed, wich i picked. The next screen told me that a file could not be downloaded. Bug#605133: Re: Preinstalled package manager(s) for PCs (wheezy)
Hi, just have a look here: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=605133 Obviously there is no interest for a package manager in X any more. So back to the roots with aptitude ... ;-) Or maybe the idea is that Debian has to be a distribution for servers only? Here is no response in the same way: http://lists.debian.org/debian-ctte/2012/02/msg00026.html Cheers Karsten P.S. Bug#677736: Big icon spaces in desktop sidebar
Package: plasma-desktop Version: 4:4.7.4-2+b1 Severity: normal Hello, after upgrading from Squeeze i have a problem with the sidebars. I am using a sidebar to add program icons for quickstart into a separate sidebar. This looks normally like smallspace.png. Now in wheezy i always get really big spaces between the icons as you can see in bigspace.png. The interesting thing is that the big spaces will disappear if you add or delete an icon. But after the next login you have always big spaces again. That's a little bit annoying. If this is the wrong package for the problem please assign it to the correct one. Bug#673795: Solution for the original NVidia driver
In many years i could only experience one time that the nvidia-package of Debian results in a running X-system. And i installed Debian on many different systems with different NVidia cards. Sorry that's really annoying. Now i could find out why the installation of the original drivers fail with a sigterm message: http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/account/questions/detail/i_id/423280 The reason is again a debian script. :-( This kills the NVidia installer and the user thinks the problem is the installation script of NVidia. I know you will damn me for my opinion, but X has to run in a simple way without reading tons of readme's or editing xorg.conf with the vi. The original NVidia driver normally will do this job - install and have direct a running X. Why this is not possible with the debian packages? Bug#651951: libgps20: /usr/bin/plasma-desktop crash at KDE startup while accessing libgps20
thanks for the bugreport - not sure why you've filed it against plasma-desktop and libgps20, though. Well, the segfault appeared to happen when /usr/bin/plasma-desktop attempted to use libpgs.so.20 (or so it appeared to me) so that's why. libgps20 is well tested (assuming one uses only documented interfaces). I'm sure. This is the segfault: plasma-desktop[4271]: segfault at 69006f ip a69bafc2 sp a698f1f0 error 4 in libgps.so.20.0.0[a69aa000+18000] In any case, please provide a full backtrace. http://wiki.debian.org/HowToGetABacktrace Installing kdebase-workspace-dbg and gpsd-dbg should help. Yep, I've done so now over at http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=651950 (took a bit to download the symbols packages :-) Thanks, Karsten -- GPG key ID E4071346 @ gpg-keyserver.de E167 67FD A291 2BEA 73BD 4537 78B9 A9F9 E407 1346 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Which package do I need to install to get them ? I've tried but apparently failed to catch those. It looks like KDE's bug #277036 (fixed with the commit 60d13c5) is quite similar; I agree: http://bugs.kde.org/277036 I'll cherrypick the patch, so it can be part of the next kdebase-workspace 4.6.5-x upload (whenever it is, if any before 4.7). Thanks. In the short them, if you need no gps geolocation in Plasma, remove /usr/lib/kde4/plasma-geolocation-gps.so /usr/share/kde4/services/plasma-geolocation-gps.desktop and then relogin. Since apt-file tells me: kdebase-workspace-dbg: /usr/lib/debug/usr/lib/kde4/plasma-geolocation-gps.so plasma-dataengines-workspace: /usr/lib/kde4/plasma-geolocation-gps.so plasma-dataengines-workspace: /usr/share/kde4/services/plasma-geolocation-gps.desktop and I assume you don't suggest I remove the plasma-dataengines-workspace package entirely (as that would remove a host of core KDE packages) I assume you want me to move the above files out of the way. BTW, this file: /usr/share/kde4/services/plasma-geolocation-gps.desktop doesn't exist on my system. However, there does exist a /usr/share/kde4/servicetypes/plasma-geolocationprovider.desktop Just renaming /usr/lib/kde4/plasma-geolocation-gps.so works fine for me. Bug#644173: Kuickshow does not exist any more
Package: kuickshow Severity: wishlist Hello together, i am really a fan of the kuickshow and so i am really sad that it is missing since KDE4 now. Yes, there is Gwenview and i also use Irfanview with wine. But no other picture viewer is so fast and has such easy to use shortcuts for rotate and gamma correction. The kuickshow should come back to Debian and to the world! Please also refer to this bug/wishlist: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdegraphics/+bug/45265 What i cannot understand is why the missing library functions from the imlib cannot be added in the source to the kuickshow statically? For other readers - here is a workaround to get kuickshow installed in Debian Squeeze: Edit /etc/apt/sources.list from deb http://ftp.ch.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main contrib non-free deb-src http://ftp.ch.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main contrib non-free to deb http://ftp.ch.debian.org/debian/ lenny main contrib non-free deb-src http://ftp.ch.debian.org/debian/ lenny main contrib non-free Only let this two sources activ! Then execute aptitude update aptitude install kuickshow After that undo your changes or use an backup of your sources.list Then again execute aptitude update This works. :-) Regards Karsten -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Kuickshow uses the upstream dead and buried imlib1 that also got removed from debian long time ago. /Sune Hmmm - but it is working with the old libs installed parallel to the new one. It would be the best way when the kuickshow developer would integrate the needed stuff from the old libraries in the sources of kuickshow. Is this possible? Bug#617468: Printing of PDF documents are only blank pages
Hello, i have the same problem here. It is very strange because i have 2 identical PC's with the same mainboard connected to an identical printer Kyocera mita FS-1010. The installation of Squeeze is copied from the first PC to the second PC and is so nearly identical. On the first PC i can print all documents including PDF. On the second PC i can only print from OOffice, but printing of PDF documents are only blank pages. The problem is the same printing on the local printer or remote on the network printer. It is also independent printing from the PDF-Viewer XPDF or Okular. Something is going wrong with the print data after the application that prints PDF. This problem is very annoying, because there are much PDF documents to print. A solution to solve the problem would be very helpful. How can i help to debug? Bug#635912: More Details for driver problem
Hello, because this bug seems to have some deep problems i contacted the support of Realtek. In the time between i got help from Mr. Cheng from Realtek. The problem is not solved up to now, but i will post what we have found out so far: RTL8169 series are PCI Gigabit Ethernet Controller. The r8168 driver is for PCI-E products, not PCI products! One assumption was that there is a problem with the CPU power saving. So I disabled cool'n quiet in the BIOS and obviously it makes an effect! I could perform ping to my router without packet loss, but contact to the IMAP-Server fails. This seems to be the right way to come closer to the problem. The question is why the frequency stepping of the cpu has effect to the ethernet problem? All my tests where made with the newest driver version 6.015.00 for RTL8169. Another problem is that Mr. Cheng requested the driver informations: root@PC# ethtool -i eth2 driver: r8169 version: 2.3LK-NAPI firmware-version: bus-info: :02:07.0 Mr. Cheng writes to me that it is the inbox driver version, not the realtek driver version. Can anybody say what the inbox driver is? lsmod shows to me that the r8169 driver is loaded - so i can't understand this? I will made some further tests now with cool'n quiet disabled. Some ideas how i can debug the problem in detail would be helpful. Regards Karsten -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#635912: linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64: High packet loss with RTL8169 using Megabit LAN
No, that is not the solution. Realtek distributes two drivers (r8168 and r8169) supporting two sets of similar chips. In upstream Linux the r8169 driver supports all those chips. Yes. In one PC we have a R8168B onboard and it works well with the r8169 driver on Gigabit LAN. Some people compare an old r8169 with a newer r8168 and wrongly think that r8168 must be better. I only see that the current r8169 (57K) driver is much smaller than the r8168 (383K). I also tried the newest r8169 driver from realtek in Squeeze with the same result. Please test Linux 3.0 as packaged in Debian unstable. That's much effort because i have no installation. What will differ here - because i already tried the newest driver? Ben. Any idea why the r8168 driver is loaded but not found as eth? Karsten -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#630645: #630645 - yabause does not run
Oh sorry - when i answered i thought here it is another bug - completely messd up! Of course i used NOT an PC-Bios for Yabause. But at this time i have no access to the PC where i tested it. So i don't know what BIOS and ISO i used at this time. But there where not so much BIOS downloads that could be found. As i have written the same BIOS and ISO worked in the windows version. So i assumed that they should be O.K. Which BIOS should work with this package? Regards Karsten -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#630645: #630645 - yabause does not run
Hi Evgeni, it's interesting for me that the reason has to be searched in the BIOS. without knowing which BIOS and ISO you use, I have no possibility to help. Esp as I never add a BIOS at all (but just tested a random one and it works).. The BIOS for the Mainboard can be downloaded here: http://www.asrock.com/mb/download.asp?Model=AM2NF3-VSTAo=BIOS I will look for the exact version next time - i could be V 2.30. Is there a possibility for me to check what is going wrong? Somewhere an information must be stored that is not correct. But it is not in the usual network configuration. Bug#634157: No DNS resolving after using an other eth of the PC
Package: dnsutils Version: 1:9.7.3 Severity: important *** Please type your report below this line *** Please refer to this bug from Fri, 19 Aug 2005 00:18:06 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=323875 The problem is not solved up to now! I am banging by head also with loosing the DNS resolve. I have two eth in the PC: 1. Onboard eth1 with 100 MPS 2. PCI RTL-8169 Gigabit Ethernet as eth2 First everything works fine using the eth2. But when you plug the network accidentally into eth1 and you boot, then you loose complete the DNS resolve. When you plug back to eth2 is will not help. You loose DNS forever! I tried everything to configure manual and here is the configuration that runs before and now: root@PC:/etc# cat resolv.conf 192.168.1.1 root@PC:/etc/network# cat interfaces # This file describes the network interfaces available on your system # and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5). # The loopback network interface auto lo iface lo inet loopback # The primary network interface allow-hotplug eth2 iface eth2 inet static address 192.168.1.12 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 192.168.1.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255 gateway 192.168.1.1 # dns-* options are implemented by the resolvconf package, if installed dns-nameservers 192.168.1.1 Now the interfacve is running and also browsing is possible when you tipe directly the IP instead of the URL. But a simple nslookup fails: root@PC:/etc# nslookup google.com ;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached So this installation is dead! Also reinstallation of the dnsutils is not possible without DNS. I opened this bug with important because this problem exists for many years and you can't work with the system any more when the error occurs. Someone else reported this problem, but so far I have not reproduced it on Ubuntu 10.04, Ubuntu 11.04, Fedora 14, and OS X. Both bug reports' backtrace show a crash in QVariantAnimation::registerInterpolator(), which I find strange esp. since our only Qt-based module, qimage, has not changed since before the v0.7.0 release. As you can see, it occurs when MLT calls dlcose() on a MLT plugin using Qt. Someone having the problem can easily see if deleting libmltqimage.so helps. I suggested this to the other reporter but have not heard back. Yes, I confirm that the bug disappears when I remove libmltqimage.so. Great, thanks. What is the Qt4 version? Hi Marco, I like to believe in determinism, so opening again a bug which I already closed as invalid will not result in a different outcome. I like to believe that you are an ignorant that wants no bug regarding udev. When the kernel suddenly cannot determine the filesystem there is going something wrong. The hardware is absolutely O.K. The same USB-Drive on the same USB-Port works perfect in Debian Lenny. So here is something broken in Squeeze! It doesn't help that you will not believe it. I will adress this bug to the kernel now. Maybe you will believe it when the kernel team says it is an udev problem? Bug#609441: reassign 609441 alsa-base
This bug is definitely not related to phonon. One subproblem is solved - it was a missing configuration of multiple sound cards (CA0106 bug 614074). Another subproblem has been defined not to be a Debian problem any more because of DFSG (CS4630 bug 614076). The last problem is still open (CM6501 bug 614074). It's good that some of the problems can be solved in detail up to now, but maybe there is the need for a better automatic configuration to avoid such problems in the future? And really strange is the applied patch: static struct BA1struct BA1Struct = { -{{ 0x, 0x3000 },{ 0x0001, 0x3800 },{ 0x0002, 0x7000 }}, +{{ 0x3000 },{ 0x3800 },{ 0x7000 }}, It looks like the exchange of some addresses - but now 3 values are missing !? But it makes no difference for the firmware binary after calling write_images (diff). That's all very strange ... But this can't be done by the Debian Alsa Team. I am sure you noticed that #614076 is still closed, though. Sorry - i cannot follow your opinion. Everything is fine with the kernel. There is a driver snd-cs46xx.ko already included but not the firmware. The question why the firmware has to be patched is still open. The main thing is that sound works perfect before in Lenny (stable). Now there are several hardware combinations with big problems. This is one of them. Elimar I will ask the ALSA-Team for this specific problem. At least the fact remains that older hardware isn't supported any more in Squeeze ... You can build your own Drivers and firmware: There is also a page for the cs4630: http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Matrix:Module-cs46xx Is the OSS/free emulation the BIOS part? http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Matrix:Module-cs46xx#Autoloading_OSS.2Ffree_emulation What is the difference using the original BIOS? In the Debian Wiki the original Bios is used and patched. Why it is patched and is this maybe the reason that IEC859 is not working anymore? Up to know i only understand that we have to parts: 1. The driver that is loaded by the kernel dynamically to communicate with the CSxx chip. 2. The firmware which is the elemntary software for the DSP in the CSxx chip. When there is provided a free BIOS within the ALSA-project why there is a problem with DFSG? Or does the ALSA solution need the original BIOS anyway? This has nothing to do with visibility. The sound devices are only usable for audio group members or root. I mean visible in aplay -l Please post user's output of user@PC:~$ id I proofed it after the login and the user was in the group. Before there was no sound output for this user.
