Bug#687702: Accepted gnumed-client 1.2.5+dfsg-1 (source all)

Prima, danke.

Was sollten wir als nächstes hinsichtlich

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=687702

tun ?

Das RC-Problem hinsichtlich der .js ist ja erstmal behoben.

Bug#687151: Missing printer driver WINEPS.DRV

2012-09-10 Thread Karsten Malcher

Package: wine-bin
Version: 1.4.1-2
Severity: important

Hello,

it is really an improvement that the new wine version is included now.
But in this wine version some applications have a problem to open a window.

In this case i try to open the print dialog with Irfanview.
The result in the shell is:

err:dc:CreateDCW no driver found for LWINEPS.DRV

Why the printer driver is missing?
How can i add it?

Another example is an old software from 2001, that runs without problem in wine
1.1.42.
Now the application starts with the start window but can't open the main
application window?
There is no output of an error on the console when you try to debug it?

Any ideas how to solve these problems?

Best regards
Karsten

The missing packages must be installed with the i386 option.
aptitude install libwine:i386 libwine-print:i386 libwine-sane:i386

Afterwards the printing dialog works again.

But how can i solve the problem with the main window of the old application?

Bug#686754: update-grub generates wrong grub.cfg

2012-09-05 Thread Karsten Malcher

Package: grub2-common
Version: 1.99-22.1
Severity: important

Hello,

this bug seems only effect additional bootable partitions.
At this time i try to copy my primary installation to a SSD.

When i run update-grub my main partition is generated in the grub.cfg correct as

menuentry 'Debian GNU/Linux, mit Linux 3.2.0-3-amd64' --class debian --class
gnu-linux --class gnu --class os {
insmod gzio
insmod part_msdos
insmod ext2
set root='(/dev/sda,msdos3)'
search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root
6bfc15a0-2e9d-4020-9346-9fd52d2696f5
echo'Linux 3.2.0-3-amd64 wird geladen …'
linux /boot/vmlinuz-3.2.0-3-amd64
root=UUID=6bfc15a0-2e9d-4020-9346-9fd52d2696f5 ro  quiet
echo'Initiale Ramdisk wird geladen …'
initrd /boot/initrd.img-3.2.0-3-amd64
}

But the copy on my SSD is generated as

menuentry Debian GNU/Linux, mit Linux 3.2.0-3-amd64 (on /dev/sdb1) --class
gnu-linux --class gnu --class os {
insmod part_msdos
insmod ext2
set root='(/dev/sdb,msdos1)'
search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root
a1135478-503b-4213-86eb-f6011e35b596
linux /boot/vmlinuz-3.2.0-3-amd64
root=UUID=6bfc15a0-2e9d-4020-9346-9fd52d2696f5 ro quiet
initrd /boot/initrd.img-3.2.0-3-amd64
}

You can see that the search has the correct UUID, but the linux the wrong
UUID!
So the system is always booted from the harddisk instead of the SSD.
This error should be corrected.

The system is booting correct after manual correction of this error in the
grub.cfg.

Regards
Karsten

Hello,

i used this fine package to generate a Debian package for google-earth.
It works and generated a package googleearth_6.0.3.2197+0.7.0-1_amd64.deb

But after installation and start of google-earth the main-windows keeps without

There is only a blank screen but the menus and program is working.

glx works for me.

Bug#685464: [debian installer] wheezy debian installer, netinst.iso and local mirror

2012-08-20 Thread Karsten Kruse
Package: debian installer
Version: 20. Aug. 2012
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

The debian installer in the netinst.iso image fails if there is a local
mirror for wheezy only.

This is how to repeat the problem:

First i made a mirror:

| debmirror /storage/mirrors/debian/ \
--verbose --host ftp.de.debian.org --method=http \
--arch amd64 --dist wheezy,wheezy-proposed-updates \
--section main,contrib,non-free,main/debian-installer \
--rsync-extra doc,tools,trace --di-dist wheezy --nosource \
--exclude-deb-section '^debug$' --i18n }
--exclude '/Translation-.*\.bz2$' \
--include '/Translation-de.*\.bz2$'|

Then i Installed apache and linked the files:

| cd /var/www ln -s /storage/mirrors/debian

I tested the mirror:

||  wget http://host/debian/dists/testing/Release \
http://host/debian/dists/wheezy/Release|

And got the latest netinst.iso:

wget
http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/daily-builds/wheezy_d-i/arch-latest/amd64/iso-cd/debian-testing-amd64-netinst.iso

Then i used VMWare Workstation to install. When asked for the location
of the mirror, i said http://host and /debian/.

First, the installer told me that the mirror doesn't contain squeeze and
suggested to go back and pick another mirror. Since i didn't want
squeeze anyway i just said no, i don't want to go back.

The next screen told me that i had to pick a debian variant. Only wheezy
was listed, wich i picked.

The next screen told me that a file could not be downloaded. In apaches
error.log i found this:

|[Mon Aug 20 16:47:44 2012] [error] [client 192.168.10.125] File does
not exist: /var/www/debian/dists/squeeze|

Thats it. I tried the latest netinst.iso and the beta1, both show the
same problem.

Bug#645972: package name considerations

Using entangle as a package name would be very generic and likely to

This package would definitely

Enhances: GNUmed, GIMP, digikam

As the author of gnumed(-client/-server) I would even set it as

Suggests: entangle-photo

Comments/Problems:

The machine has a TP-Link TL-WN721N 802.11n WLAN dongle (based on an
Atheros AR9271 chipset) connected via USB. As long as this device is
connected to the computer, the detect network stage just hangs
forever. If the WLAN dongle is not connected to the machine, d-i works
as expected.

The firmware for the WLAN dongle is non-free and therefore not included
in d-i, but the installation should not hang completely just because
the device is connected to the computer.

The device itself is supported by Linux and works when connected after

Bug#605133: Re: Preinstalled package manager(s) for PCs (wheezy)

2012-07-25 Thread Karsten Malcher

Hi,

just have a look here:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=605133

Obviously there is no interest for a package manager in X any more.
So back to the roots with aptitude ... ;-)

Or maybe the idea is that Debian has to be a distribution for servers only?
Here is no response in the same way:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-ctte/2012/02/msg00026.html

Cheers
Karsten

P.S.
This is the newest thread i reply here:

Comments/Problems:

There were no problems with the installation itself.

One thing that I have stumbled about is that the default Xfce
installation contains both xfburn (Xfce CD burning application)
and brasero (GNOME CD burning application). Xfce is usually used
for lightweight setups, so I think there should be only one
CD burning application installed by default.

Bug#677736: Big icon spaces in desktop sidebar

2012-06-16 Thread Karsten Malcher

Package: plasma-desktop
Version: 4:4.7.4-2+b1
Severity: normal

Hello,

after upgrading from Squeeze i have a problem with the sidebars.

I am using a sidebar to add program icons for quickstart into a separate
sidebar.
This looks normally like smallspace.png.
Now in wheezy i always get really big spaces between the icons as you can see
in bigspace.png.

The interesting thing is that the big spaces will disappear if you add or
delete an icon.
But after the next login you have always big spaces again.
That's a little bit annoying.

If this is the wrong package for the problem please assign it to the correct
one.

Regards
Karsten

Bug#673795: Solution for the original NVidia driver

2012-05-22 Thread Karsten Malcher
In many years i could only experience one time that the nvidia-package
of Debian results in a running X-system.
And i installed Debian on many different systems with different NVidia
cards.
Sorry that's really annoying.

Now i could find out why the installation of the original drivers fail
with a sigterm message:
http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/account/questions/detail/i_id/423280
The reason is again a debian script. :-(
This kills the NVidia installer and the user thinks the problem is the
installation script of NVidia.

I know you will damn me for my opinion, but X has to run in a simple way
without reading tons of readme's or editing xorg.conf with the vi.
The original NVidia driver normally will do this job - install and have
direct a running X.
Why this is not possible with the debian packages?

Regards
Karsten

Bug#673786: NVidia-driver fails complete

2012-05-21 Thread Karsten Malcher
Package: nvidia-glx
Version: 295.49-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

i tried to install the nvidia-glx package.

After that the starting of the x-server is not possible any more. :-(
Before the graphics work.

I also tried to remove nvidia-glx without no effect.
I can't believe that after all the years the same problems will happen
again and again.
This time the installation of the original NVidia-driver also fails and
does not work.

Must i start from scratch and reinstall Debian completely?

Regards
Karsten

Bug#669658: [plasma-desktop] plasma-desktop segfaults when Notebook wakes up from suspend-to-ram

2012-04-20 Thread Karsten Kruse
Package: plasma-desktop
Version: 4:4.7.4-2
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

I usually just close my Notebook (Thinkpad X61) at work, put it in my
backpack and go home. At home i just open it, plug in power and network
an continue working. During the transport the sleep-LED (a half moon) is
on, the system is suspended to ram, not to disk.

Every now an then plasma-desktop segfaults when i open the notebook.
Plasma-desktop gets restarted instantly, so i can continue working.
Still, it sucks.

It segfaults about one time in three, the time in hibernation doesn't
seem to matter.

I run my own Kernel, but have the same problem with Debian testings Kernel.

This is the backtrace i get from Drkonqui:

2012-03-05 Thread Karsten Malcher
Package: kdebase-workspace
Version: 4:4.4.5-7+squeeze1
Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***

After the last system upgrade in February there are some strange effects.
One of it is that the shutdown button is missing sometimes.
I attached a screenshot of the system menu.

When i reboot it is existent again, sometimes not.

Any idea where to search for the reason?

Regards
Karsten

Bug#655209: close 655209

2012-01-09 Thread Karsten Malcher

|close 655209

Sorry - i found it now.

The language must be activated manually!
Extras - Add-ons - Languages - Enable

It seems to be a problem that many users will have with other languages after
the upgrade.

Bug#653614: Xorg server produces high cpu usage without reason

And the Debian driver does not support the card.
So what choice i have?

The main question is what have changed with the last xorg update?
Before everything was running perfect - including 3D support.

I will check this - thanks.
Up to now everything worked perfect with the original NVidia-driver.
But it would be better to use a Debian-package of course.

Bug#653614: Xorg server produces high cpu usage without reason

2011-12-29 Thread Karsten Malcher

Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.5+8+squeeze1
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***

Since the last system update the Xorg server consumes a lot of cpu usage and
the system is much slower.
Sometimes the system is hanging for some seconds and then working again.
Before the update everything was fine without this problems.

Any ideas how to ged rid of this problem?
The only solution i see is to roll back with an backup of the system before the
update.

Karsten

Bug#651951: libgps20: /usr/bin/plasma-desktop crash at KDE startup while accessing libgps20

2011-12-13 Thread Karsten Hilbert
thanks for the bugreport - not sure why you've filed it against
 plasma-desktop and libgps20, though.

Well, the segfault appeared to happen when
/usr/bin/plasma-desktop attempted to use libpgs.so.20 (or so
it appeared to me) so that's why.

 libgps20 is well tested (assuming
 one uses only documented interfaces).

I'm sure.

  This is the segfault:

  plasma-desktop[4271]: segfault at 69006f ip a69bafc2 sp a698f1f0 error
  4 in libgps.so.20.0.0[a69aa000+18000]

In any case, please provide a full backtrace.
 http://wiki.debian.org/HowToGetABacktrace
Installing kdebase-workspace-dbg and gpsd-dbg should help.

Yep, I've done so now over at

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=651950

(took a bit to download the symbols packages :-)

Thanks,
Karsten

Bug#651950: KDE crash log appended

Note it misses the libgps symbols.

Which package do I need to install to get them ?

I've tried but apparently failed to catch those.

It looks like KDE's bug #277036 (fixed with the commit 60d13c5) is quite
 similar;

I agree:

http://bugs.kde.org/277036

I'll cherrypick the patch, so it can be part of the next
kdebase-workspace 4.6.5-x upload (whenever it is, if any before 4.7).

Thanks.

In the short them, if you need no gps geolocation in Plasma, remove
   /usr/lib/kde4/plasma-geolocation-gps.so
   /usr/share/kde4/services/plasma-geolocation-gps.desktop
 and then relogin.

Since apt-file tells me:

kdebase-workspace-dbg:
/usr/lib/debug/usr/lib/kde4/plasma-geolocation-gps.so
plasma-dataengines-workspace: /usr/lib/kde4/plasma-geolocation-gps.so

plasma-dataengines-workspace:
/usr/share/kde4/services/plasma-geolocation-gps.desktop

and I assume you don't suggest I remove the
plasma-dataengines-workspace package entirely (as that would
remove a host of core KDE packages) I assume you want me to
move the above files out of the way.

BTW, this file:

/usr/share/kde4/services/plasma-geolocation-gps.desktop

doesn't exist on my system. However, there does exist a

/usr/share/kde4/servicetypes/plasma-geolocationprovider.desktop

Just renaming

/usr/lib/kde4/plasma-geolocation-gps.so

works fine for me.

Thanks,
Karsten

Bug#644173: Kuickshow does not exist any more

2011-10-03 Thread Karsten Malcher

Package: kuickshow
Severity: wishlist

Hello together,

i am really a fan of the kuickshow and so i am really sad that it is
missing since KDE4 now.

Yes, there is Gwenview and i also use Irfanview with wine.
But no other picture viewer is so fast and has such easy to use
shortcuts for rotate and gamma correction.

The kuickshow should come back to Debian and to the world!

Please also refer to this bug/wishlist:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdegraphics/+bug/45265

What i cannot understand is why the missing library functions from the
imlib cannot be added in the source to the kuickshow statically?

For other readers - here is a workaround to get kuickshow installed in
Debian Squeeze:

Edit /etc/apt/sources.list from

deb http://ftp.ch.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main contrib non-free
deb-src http://ftp.ch.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main contrib non-free

to

deb http://ftp.ch.debian.org/debian/ lenny main contrib non-free
deb-src http://ftp.ch.debian.org/debian/ lenny main contrib non-free

Only let this two sources activ!

Then execute
  aptitude update
  aptitude install kuickshow

After that undo your changes or use an backup of your sources.list

Then again execute
   aptitude update

This works. :-)

Regards
Karsten

According to this [1] there is a version for KDE4 libs.

Kuickshow uses the upstream dead and buried imlib1 that also got removed from
debian long time ago.

/Sune

Hmmm - but it is working with the old libs installed parallel to the new
one.

It would be the best way when the kuickshow developer would integrate
the needed stuff from the old libraries in the sources of kuickshow.

Is this possible?

Best regards

Seems to be an old driver problem that is resistant to be fixed.

I will not try to fix a problem that cannot be fixed for years. ;-)
So I will sell this stupid IBM PRO/1000 MT (that have nothing Pro) and i
will take a simply but working RTL 8169 card now for gigabit network.

Bug#617468: Printing of PDF documents are only blank pages

2011-08-28 Thread Karsten Malcher
Hello,

i have the same problem here.
It is very strange because i have 2 identical PC's with the same mainboard
connected to an identical printer Kyocera mita FS-1010.
The installation of Squeeze is copied from the first PC to the second PC and is
so
nearly identical.

On the first PC i can print all documents including PDF.
On the second PC i can only print from OOffice, but printing of PDF documents
are
only blank pages.

The problem is the same printing on the local printer or remote on the network
printer.
It is also independent printing from the PDF-Viewer XPDF or Okular.

Something is going wrong with the print data after the application that prints
PDF.

This problem is very annoying, because there are much PDF documents to print.
A solution to solve the problem would be very helpful.
How can i help to debug?

Regards
Karsten

Bug#635912: More Details for driver problem

2011-08-10 Thread Karsten Malcher
Hello,

because this bug seems to have some deep problems i contacted the support of
Realtek.
In the time between i got help from Mr. Cheng from Realtek.
The problem is not solved up to now, but i will post what we have found out so
far:

RTL8169 series are PCI Gigabit Ethernet Controller.
The r8168 driver is for PCI-E products, not PCI products!

One assumption was that there is a problem with the CPU power saving.
So I disabled cool'n quiet in the BIOS and obviously it makes an effect!
I could perform ping to my router without packet loss, but contact to the
IMAP-Server fails.
This seems to be the right way to come closer to the problem.
The question is why the frequency stepping of the cpu has effect to the ethernet
problem?

All my tests where made with the newest driver version 6.015.00 for RTL8169.

Another problem is that Mr. Cheng requested the driver informations:

root@PC# ethtool -i eth2
driver: r8169
version: 2.3LK-NAPI
firmware-version:
bus-info: :02:07.0

Mr. Cheng writes to me that it is the inbox driver version, not the realtek
driver
version.
Can anybody say what the inbox driver is?
lsmod shows to me that the r8169 driver is loaded - so i can't understand this?

I will made some further tests now with cool'n quiet disabled.
Some ideas how i can debug the problem in detail would be helpful.

Regards
Karsten

Bug#635912: linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64: High packet loss with RTL8169 using Megabit LAN

2011-07-29 Thread Karsten Malcher

Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-35
Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***

I have problems with an RTL8169 Gigabit PCI-card.
It works perfect with 100 base, but when i use an 1000 base switch i got
massive packet loss.

This problem is well known and normally the solution is to use the
driver r8168 instead of r8169.

So I compiled and installed the newest r8168 driver downloaded from realtek.
http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1PNid=5PFid=5Level=5Conn=4DownTypeID=3GetDown=false#RTL8111B/RTL8168B/RTL8111/RTL8168%3Cbr%3ERTL8111C/RTL8111CP/RTL8111D%28L%29%3Cbr%3ERTL8168C/RTL8111DP/RTL8111E%3Cbr%3ERTL8168E/RTL8111F
http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1PNid=5PFid=5Level=5Conn=4DownTypeID=3GetDown=false#RTL8111B/RTL8168B/RTL8111/RTL8168%3Cbr%3ERTL8111C/RTL8111CP/RTL8111D%28L%29%3Cbr%3ERTL8168C/RTL8111DP/RTL8111E%3Cbr%3ERTL8168E/RTL8111F

I followed this german instructions here:
http://wiki.hetzner.de/index.php/Installation_des_r8168-Treibers

Now the driver is loaded and can be found in the driver list with
|# lsmod | grep r81
r8168 29279 0

|But it is not listed by|
ifconfig -a|

I can only see my onboard 100 base as eth1.
The eth2 for the gigabit-card is missing!
The driver is loaded but the eth is not recognized?

This is what you can see with connected 100 base to eth2:

Bug#635912: linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64: High packet loss with RTL8169 using Megabit LAN

2011-07-29 Thread Karsten Malcher

No, that is not the solution. Realtek distributes two drivers (r8168
and r8169) supporting two sets of similar chips. In upstream Linux the
r8169 driver supports all those chips.

Yes. In one PC we have a R8168B onboard and it works well with the r8169
driver on Gigabit LAN.

Some people compare an old r8169 with a newer r8168 and wrongly think
that r8168 must be better.

I only see that the current r8169 (57K) driver is much smaller than the
r8168 (383K).
I also tried the newest r8169 driver from realtek in Squeeze with the
same result.

Please test Linux 3.0 as packaged in Debian unstable.

That's much effort because i have no installation.
What will differ here - because i already tried the newest driver?

Ben.

Any idea why the r8168 driver is loaded but not found as eth?

In a first attempt to figure out #635300, I tried to build ginkgocadx

Bug#630645: #630645 - yabause does not run

2011-07-21 Thread Karsten Malcher
Oh sorry - when i answered i thought here it is another bug - completely
messd up!

Of course i used NOT an PC-Bios for Yabause.

But at this time i have no access to the PC where i tested it.
So i don't know what BIOS and ISO i used at this time.
But there where not so much BIOS downloads that could be found.

As i have written the same BIOS and ISO worked in the windows version.
So i assumed that they should be O.K.

Which BIOS should work with this package?

Bug#630645: #630645 - yabause does not run

2011-07-20 Thread Karsten Malcher

Hi Evgeni,

it's interesting for me that the reason has to be searched in the BIOS.

without knowing which BIOS and ISO you use, I have no possibility to
help. Esp as I never add a BIOS at all (but just tested a random one
and it works)..

The BIOS for the Mainboard can be downloaded here:
http://www.asrock.com/mb/download.asp?Model=AM2NF3-VSTAo=BIOS

I will look for the exact version next time - i could be V 2.30.

Is there a possibility for me to check what is going wrong?
Somewhere an information must be stored that is not correct.
But it is not in the usual network configuration.

Karsten

Bug#634157: No DNS resolving after using an other eth of the PC

2011-07-17 Thread Karsten Malcher
Package: dnsutils
Version: 1:9.7.3
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***

Please refer to this bug from Fri, 19 Aug 2005 00:18:06
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=323875

The problem is not solved up to now!
I am banging by head also with loosing the DNS resolve.

I have two eth in the PC:
1. Onboard eth1 with 100 MPS
2. PCI RTL-8169 Gigabit Ethernet as eth2

First everything works fine using the eth2.
But when you plug the network accidentally into eth1 and you boot, then you
loose
complete the DNS resolve.
When you plug back to eth2 is will not help. You loose DNS forever!

I tried everything to configure manual and here is the configuration that runs
before and now:

root@PC:/etc# cat resolv.conf
192.168.1.1

root@PC:/etc/network# cat interfaces
# This file describes the network interfaces available on your system
# and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5).

# The loopback network interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

# The primary network interface
allow-hotplug eth2
iface eth2 inet static
address 192.168.1.12
netmask 255.255.255.0
network 192.168.1.0
broadcast 192.168.1.255
gateway 192.168.1.1
# dns-* options are implemented by the resolvconf package, if installed
dns-nameservers 192.168.1.1

Now the interfacve is running and also browsing is possible when you tipe
directly
the IP instead of the URL.
But a simple nslookup fails:

root@PC:/etc# nslookup google.com
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached

So this installation is dead!
Also reinstallation of the dnsutils is not possible without DNS.

I opened this bug with important because this problem exists for many years and
you
can't work with the system any more when the error occurs.

Regards
Karsten

Bug#421343: pdftk: does not seem a bug

2011-06-20 Thread Karsten Hilbert
Package: pdftk
Followup-For: Bug #421343

Thanks for packaging pdftk !

While I agree that the FDF file format (apparently: ASCII with enclosed
BOM-prefixed UTF-16-BE field values) seems rather cumbersome to handle
with text oriented tools this does not seem like a bug to me.

The UTF-16-BE parts you refer to are not the field *names* but rather
the *content*. Content apparently can come encoded as UTF-16-BE as per
the PDF spec.

Here is how to parse and replace those fields with Python:

http://gitorious.org/gnumed/gnumed/blobs/master/gnumed/gnumed/client/business/gmForms.py

(look at cPDFForm.substitute_placeholders(), mainly)

  What is your opinion?

Someone else reported this problem, but so far I have not reproduced
it on Ubuntu 10.04, Ubuntu 11.04, Fedora 14, and OS X. Both bug
reports' backtrace show a crash in
QVariantAnimation::registerInterpolator(), which I find strange esp.
since our only Qt-based module, qimage, has not changed since before
the v0.7.0 release. As you can see, it occurs when MLT calls dlcose()
on a MLT plugin using Qt. Someone having the problem can easily see if
deleting libmltqimage.so helps. I suggested this to the other reporter
 but have not heard back.

Yes, I confirm that the bug disappears when I remove libmltqimage.so.

Great, thanks. What is the Qt4 version?

Sorry, I have not been using Debian for years. What is a convenient
way to install recent sid in a VM just so an outsider like me can take
a look at an issue firsthand? Anyone making periodic iso or vm
 appliance?

I am not up on debian names - here is lenny and squeze:

It may not be reproduceable with Squeeze, so you have to install Squeeze

Bug#627070: Bluetooth not usable any more in Squeeze

2011-05-17 Thread Karsten Malcher
Package: kdebluetooth
Version: 1:1.0~rc3-2
Justification: renders package unusable
Severity: grave

*** Please type your report below this line ***

In KDE3 bluetooth connection to mobile devices was working with nearly no
problems.

Now in KDE4 / Squeeze it does not work any more.
The are only some rudimentary functionality that works on the shell with
bluetooth
devices.

My opinion is that's poor and not a progress for KDE.
Working interfaces to other devices is basically for a desktop environment.

2011-03-02 Thread Karsten Malcher
Hi Marco,

I like to believe in determinism, so opening again a bug which I
already closed as invalid will not result in a different outcome.

I like to believe that you are an ignorant that wants no bug regarding
udev.
When the kernel suddenly cannot determine the filesystem there is going
something wrong.

The hardware is absolutely O.K.
The same USB-Drive on the same USB-Port works perfect in Debian Lenny.
So here is something broken in Squeeze!

It doesn't help that you will not believe it.
I will adress this bug to the kernel now.
Maybe you will believe it when the kernel team says it is an udev problem?
But maybe it is an kernel problem, then you can be happy. ;-)

;-)

Yes - sure - but this is not what i mean or we have discussed.
This piece of source can be found at kernel.org - like described in the
Debian wiki.
But it is not part of the compiled kernel - so the kernel must not be
compiled new to use it.

It is dynamically loaded by the external kernel driver.

Another question is if a CSxx chipset can't be supported by Debian, if
only one file can't be shipped with the distribution?
The kernel driver is still part of the distribution, only the firmware
file is missing.

But it seems that the IEC859-Problem is based in the sources of ALSA, so
it is not a problem of Debian.

If someone want to follow the bug at ALSA here it is:

I want to remember the main problems for this bug here:

1. Sound is working only for KDE system sound and with MP3's and videos in VLC.
2. There is no sound with flash in the browser
3. There is no sound in Virtual machines with Virtualbox.
4. In Lenny everything works perfect on the smae PC.

In this bug it seems to be a configuration problem of the sound devices.
Some hints has been posted in the ALSA bug, but i don't know how to implement
them?

1) remove the entry pcm.!default and ctl.!default created by pulseaudio
2) configure libcanberra to use alsa

after you installed pulseaudio which override pcm.!default by type pulse

Bug#609441: reassign 609441 alsa-base

2011-02-27 Thread Karsten Malcher

This bug is definitely not related to phonon.

One subproblem is solved - it was a missing configuration of multiple sound
cards (CA0106 bug 614074).
Another subproblem has been defined not to be a Debian problem any more because
of DFSG (CS4630 bug 614076).
The last problem is still open (CM6501 bug 614074).

It's good that some of the problems can be solved in detail up to now, but maybe there is the need for a better
automatic configuration to avoid such problems in the future?

Please remind that there where not such problems on the same hardware with
Lenny before.

It is dynamically loaded by the external kernel driver.

This is a missunderstanding. snd-cs46xx needs no firmware.

But why i got the kernelmessage that the firmware is missing?
And why does it work when it get's the firmware file?
I would say the Wiki is not a fake ...

You definitly need to recompile the alsa driver sources or a vanilla
kernel.

O.K. But the driver is not the whole kernel.
I will try to do this and check if the problem is solved then.

Am 25.02.2011 19:54, schrieb Elimar Riesebieter:

Are you sure?

When i followed the description in the wiki
http://wiki.debian.org/snd-cs46xx
i take the original firmware file, patch it and put it into the
directory /usr/local/lib/firmware/cs46xx

# mkdir -p /usr/local/lib/firmware/cs46xx
# cp cs46xx/cs46xx-old.fw /usr/local/lib/firmware/cs46xx

This firmware file is loaded dynamically by the kernel driver cs46xx.ko.
Nothing of it is part of the kernel.
Before i added this firmware, the kernel driver errors out that he is
missing the firmware file.

Different to Lenny is only that this firmware is not part of ALSA now.
And really strange is the applied patch:

 static struct BA1struct BA1Struct = {
-{{ 0x, 0x3000 },{ 0x0001, 0x3800 },{ 0x0002,
0x7000 }},

+{{ 0x3000 },{ 0x3800 },{ 0x7000 }},

It looks like the exchange of some addresses - but now 3 values are
missing !?
But it makes no difference for the firmware binary after calling
write_images (diff).

That's all very strange ...

Bug#614079: Problem is solved now

2011-02-26 Thread Karsten Malcher

Today we booted the Linux again on this PC.

Without doing something the sound now works from the start.
It seems it only needs one more reboot.

In the mixer all 3 sound devices now can be seen.

This bug can be closed with success! :-)

Karsten

Sorry - i cannot follow your opinion.
Everything is fine with the kernel.
There is a driver snd-cs46xx.ko already included but not the firmware.
The question why the firmware has to be patched is still open.

The main thing is that sound works perfect before in Lenny (stable).
Now there are several hardware combinations with big problems.
This is one of them.

 Elimar

I will ask the ALSA-Team for this specific problem.

At least the fact remains that older hardware isn't supported any more in
Squeeze ...

They won't The cards are out of production and they don't earn
 money due to release sources.

I have argumented now that customers are not interested to buy and use
hardware with a hard limited software support.

You can build your own Drivers and firmware:

There is also a page for the cs4630:
http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Matrix:Module-cs46xx

Is the OSS/free emulation the BIOS part?
http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Matrix:Module-cs46xx#Autoloading_OSS.2Ffree_emulation

What is the difference using the original BIOS?
In the Debian Wiki the original Bios is used and patched.
Why it is patched and is this maybe the reason that IEC859 is not working
anymore?

Up to know i only understand that we have to parts:
1. The driver that is loaded by the kernel dynamically to communicate with
the CSxx chip.
2. The firmware which is the elemntary software for the DSP in the CSxx
chip.

When there is provided a free BIOS within the ALSA-project why there is a
problem with DFSG?
Or does the ALSA solution need the original BIOS anyway?

Bug#614079: [Pkg-alsa-devel] Bug#614079: Bug#614079: ALSA does not work with CA0106 chipset

2011-02-22 Thread Karsten Malcher
Hi,

 user must logoff and relogin.

Of course.
I did it after adding this (last) user to the group audio.

Now the sound devices are visible for the user in the same way as root.

This has nothing to do with visibility. The sound devices are
only usable for audio group members or root.

I mean visible in aplay -l

 Please post user's output of

 user@PC:~$ id

I proofed it after the login and the user was in the group.
Before there was no sound output for this user.

 Your sound should work perfect!

Should - but there is only noise.
Driver broken?

I can check this at the weekend - i am on another place.
But if it would be muted, why there is the noise output only when sound
plays?
