Bug#995162: cannot install together with i386

It has been considered, but I can tell you that it's _much_ more complex
than just that. For starters, there would be a huge layer violation in
doing so: the timestamp to use in the normalization comes from dpkg.
Also, normalizing to the previous sourceful upload date is quite likely
to resurface other bugs such what https://bugs.debian.org/843773 tried to fix.

I can add that there are quite many other packages affected by this
(currently 58 binaries), and regularly they cycle as they are binNMUed
and then re-uploaded. Fortunately this pretty much only affects -dev
and some perl-* packages, and not many people try to cross-coinstall
those packages (as opposed to pure libraries), so the bug doesn't
resurface too often.

I'll leave with the relevant "toolchain" bug: https://bugs.debian.org/969501
(which is what I consider a very valid technical non-full solution of
the problem), and what realistically is the one final solution:
https://bugs.debian.org/894441

Realistically, package-wise, I think they would good by not placing PNGs
in arch:any packages, that would side-step this issue. And it's the
proper thing to do anyway so why not. More than that, I don't think
they should bother excessively unless somebody reports them.

This is triggered by the binNMU, which varies the date of the changelog,
so that dh_strip_nondeterminism will normalize the metadata of the .png
to the binNMU build time instead of the time of the source upload as it
was before.

Now, this bug is trivially fixed by whatever next upload you do.

But really, IMHO all those files should go into an arc:all -doc binary
package instead of sitting into the -dev, so you should really go with
that when you have some time to split off the package once again.

I didn't even bother to export it anew, since what you have (although
with a .pgp extension) already was armored.

Anyway, since you are DM and I already have your key in my local copyof
the keyring:

% gpg --export --export-options export-minimal --armor nikol...@rath.org >
debian/upstream/signing-key.asc
% uscan -ddd
[same result as above]

(btw, you should use both `export-clean,export-minimal`, not just
`export-minimal`).

For you to try I pushed what works for me (once I got to this point, I'm
not sure anymore why I checked branch above…) to a "test-uscan" branch
of s3ql. In there `uscan -ddd` downloads and verify appropriately.

It does. But it doesn't mean that it shouldn't be investiaged properly.
FYI, here comes an *inkscape* bug as well, though it's not on amd64 like
the one you are concerned about.

And is a very good thing they added the test. It is very much not a
reason to dismiss their reasults.

It's not. a server-client is simply one very common software structure,
and the way dbus works.

what's wrong with dbus?

> Surely the resources provided by the

nothing in there talks about *network*. But doesn't mean that different
pieces of software can't talk to each other locally through other means.

> Again, note that this particular test was not present in previous
> versions, which is why it never caused a problem before.

Again, so what?

Just for your information, what I figured after a while is that, in that
failing build the following weird things are happening, compared to my
local build:

* there is no dbus installed
  But the build log has:
  -- Found dbus-1, version 1.12.20
  -- Found dbus-glib-1, version 0.112
so, mh... it install the library it wants alright, but not the dbus
  service itself.
* there is no libfontconfig1-dev
But I need to check if something actually need it; at least at
configure step it doesn't seem to be checked.
* there is no librsvg2-(2|common|dev)
It should not need the dev library, but I suspect the librsvg2-common
is *the* one package that normally triggers the shared-mime-info dpkg
trigger, that is what I suspect is causing the test to fail.
* it's using graphicsmagic instead of imagemagick, which is probably the
cause of all of the above

This points to, at the very least, a bunch of missing build-dependencies
that are probably pulled in by imagemagick normally (but not by
graphicsmagic, which is set as Provides:imagegick but it's really way
too different…). And, perhaps, a lack of some checking at configure
time on the inkscape side.

I don't know why in experimental graphicsmagic is pulled in, but given
the different dependency resolver than unstable it's not quite
surprising.

I'll now try to reproduce it locally given these new hints and hopefully
come back with something working.

I wonder, do you already thought about using a dpkg trigger?
I don't think that running daemon-reload once at the end of a set of

Hi!

SSIA.

Of course please exclude the cases where dh-autoreconf has some
version/arch/profile restriction, as that might be a good reason for it
to be explicitly listed.)

Please also remember to check in B-D-A/B-D-I.

?? of course. that's basically standard building env for me since I
use pbuilder. by contrast, know that the debian buildds do *not*
disable the network.

Anyway, I'm first going to upload 1.1.1 to experimental today and see
how that goes, otherwise I'm going to start debugging more.

There is also another failure I need to take care of, as building in
ubuntu exposed an unaligned memory access that causes bus errors in
armhf (when run in a arm64 cpu).

Bug#994741: regression tests: skipped vs failed

2021-09-21 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
Come on, inkscape 1.0 is not _that_ buggy. It has been around for a whole
year (with a few fixing releases in-between), and it's the version present
in Debian 11. If it really has grave bugs (I really mean grave), then
those should be filed separately, and I should work on getting them fixed
as patches on top of 1.0.2.

Then, concerning the ftbfs of 1.1. I know of it of course. Just that I've
been busy over the past month. I'm as weirded out by that test failure as
you, especially since I couldn't reproduce it anywhere else.
But no, I'm not going to ignore a test failure just because it's skipped in
other architectures for different reasons: I'll need more convincing
reasons.

If you'd like other bugs in inkscape 1.1: opposed to 1.0.2 it's doing some
kind of unaligned memory access somewhere (yet to debug), which makes it
crash on armhf when run on arm64 hardware. I was basically forced to
ignore that test failure on Ubuntu and that annoyed me enough, I really
don't want to ignore tests just because it's convenient for somebody.

Anyway, after another round of bisecting libxml2:

mattia@warren ..TEAM/xml-sgml/libxml2/upstream/libxml2
(git)-[CVE-2021-3541~189|bisect] % git bisect good
a28f7d8789e63f5e2ac63b42083754cba58f1a0e is the first bad commit
commit a28f7d8789e63f5e2ac63b42083754cba58f1a0e
Author: Nick Wellnhofer
Date: Wed Jun 10 13:41:13 2020 +0200

Never expand parameter entities in text declaration

When parsing the text declaration of external DTDs or entities, make
sure that parameter entities are not expanded. This also fixes a memory
leak in certain error cases.

The change to xmlSkipBlankChars assumes that the parser state is
maintained correctly when parsing external DTDs or parameter entities,
and might expose bugs in the code that were hidden previously.

Found by OSS-Fuzz.

AFAIK that's: https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/taskd which became quite a
bit abandonend over time. however I'd be interested in reviving it.

Did the previous domain get taken over by somebody else?!

I drifted away from the project, but it wouldn't be bad to start on it

I'm not sure I'd like to add such item to the Debian's NEWS. It would
stop updates for too many users that most likely are not affected. For
now, you are really the only one that brought up this issue.

It hasn't been done, so you should raise a bug with them if you think

I bisected libxml2:

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/libxml2/-/commit/01411e7c5ea0fff181271e092f46a2138c3720ec

So it's clearly intentional of libxml2 to be more picky now, and flag
this issue in the old dtd.

But you need to instruct xmllint to use said DTD, it won't by its own
decision to pick a random DTD from the filesystem. I also know how to
use apt-file myself:
| % apt-file search xhtml1-strict.dtd
| dita-ot: /usr/share/dita-ot/demo/h2d/dtd/xhtml1-strict.dtd
| erlang-erl-docgen:

| xmlcopyeditor: /usr/share/xmlcopyeditor/dtd/xhtml1-strict.dtd

indeed the one I used is the one from xmlcopyeditor (I picked a random
package, trusting that said .dtd is actually the same as all of the
above).

My system is fine. That error message is only a red herring due to
--nonet, and indeed the return code of xmllint is 0.

If you prefer, I can modify the DOCTYPE and do this instead, so there
won't be "I/O error"s and the return code is clear:

mattia@warren /tmp/tmp/xml % cat test.html

I can never manage to download DTDs from w3.org (how could you?!), so,
taking your testcase and a copy of the same DTD:

which looks good to me.

This is with the current 2.9.12+dfsg-4.

Bug#994617: h5py: please be more forgiving about mismatching HDF5 versions

2021-09-18 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
Package: python3-h5py
Version: 3.3.0-2
Severity: minor

Dear maintainer,

I'm currently seeting this while running a python's package testsuite:

=== warnings summary ===
../../../../../usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/h5py/_debian_h5py_serial/__init__.py:36

  /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/h5py/_debian_h5py_serial/__init__.py:36:
UserWarning: h5py is running against HDF5 1.10.7 when it was built against
1.10.6, this may cause problems
_warn(("h5py is running against HDF5 {0} when it was built against {1}, "

-- Docs: https://docs.pytest.org/en/stable/warnings.html

Now, whilst I appreciate that might be true for really different
versions, the concept of ABI is there for a reason, and I trust the
Debian's package version restrictions to prevent me from installing a
combination of hdf5 and h5py that is incompatible.

As such, I'd ask if you could either disable that warning, or at least
make it emit is only when there is a really different version that could
indeed cause problem.

Thank you.

I'm interested in seconding such patch.

For whoever is going to write it, remember to talk about:
 * Files-Excluded-$component
 * Files-Included
which are even less-known bits of the "specification" (Files-Included is
also *very* new, in Debian times).

IMHO, you should make your tooling produce this "nodejs:any" binary
dependency, instead of having each package have it manually listed in
d/control (see ${perl:Depends} as an example, since, it's actually the
very same thing, producing perl:any dependencies).

It shouldn't be IMHO.

That's good (though I think that needs an [all] to the title, which I
just added).

Now, it'd be good if somebody looked through the other apparently stale
binaries that are probably around, and either fix the auto-decruft
routine, or file a bunch of RM bugs.

Regardless of whether turning that switch on would fix the bug, that's
not considered as compliant in Debian, where we strive *very* hard to
avoid using internal copies of shared libraries.

Possibly.

I still find very odd that

$ dak rm -Rn python-setuptools-scm

doesn't find anything though. dak is obviously aware of the package...

if that's true, then you likely should add a build-depends on the newer
libxml2.

fwiw, I just uploaded libxml2 2.9.12 to unstable, so please go ahead

Generally speaking, `dget --build` is a fine feature, just please
remember that it's not quite suitable for "production builds", due to
the lack of isolation and other features like build dependency
resolution.

Bug#992711: debhelper: Please provide backport for bullseye

2021-08-23 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
We are talking about this 2-line change in update-rc.d:

https://salsa.debian.org/debian/init-system-helpers/-/commit/552e993488a403bf88aa342f73bf0b22ce62ff16

I think it's feasible to add that in buster in the next point release, and
with it allow debhelper to safely move the .service files also in
bullseye-backports.

Wouldn't you consider this option?

attached an update to retarget `dch --bpo` (and `dch --stable`) from
buster to bullseye.
I kind of forgot to push it during the last days of the freeze.

AFAIK this is wanted as ftp-master refused to update suites already

That's too late, as I said, since they are already "attached" to
src:plocate.

The official "mlocate is gone" message is definitely your job to write
as the new bin:mlocate maintainer ;)
That said, please do not mass-close those bugs. They are only a dozen,
I'm sure you can at least read the first message and confirm they indeed
do not apply anymore. But it's your call on how you want to handle the
bugs, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Actually, you don't need a RM bug in this case: the src:mlocate source
package will be manually decrufted whenever some ftp-master goes through
the cruft report, since it's a "source that doesn't build any binary
anymore".
As such, I'm closing this RM bug, since more than once I saw such bugs
executed wrongly and also removed the binary….

In the case of a curft removal, no bugs are closed.
However, this is not relevant in this case: bugs might be attached to
either a binary package or a source package: taking over the bin:mlocate
binary you also carried over all of its bugs already.
See https://bugs.debian.org/src:plocate

There is only *1* bug attached to the source src:mlocate that would be
affected by this (#969522 - which I recommend you go and manually close
already, since it's clearly obsoleted now).

This never happened, but Adrian Bunk insisted on doing the move.
Here is an IRC log from #debian-ports over the course of the past days
(elipsing/removing unrelated lines; all times CEST; first number is the
day of the month):

[19 11:13:22 PM] cbmuser, jrtc27: Two questions regarding m68k:
[19 11:13:46 PM] 1. […]
[19 11:15:47 PM] 2.
https://sources.debian.org/src/mpi-defaults/1.13/debian/rules/#L91-L93 - is
this still appropriate, or should m68k and sh4 now default to openmpi like all
other architectures?
[19 11:22:06 PM] […]
[19 11:22:17 PM] I can test the other packages tomorrow and look into
MPI
[19 11:22:40 PM] […]
[19 11:30:34 PM] cbmuser: thanks (and no need to hurry on either of
these)
[19 11:33:39 PM] sure
[20 10:31:41 AM] as a reminder: switching the MPI implementation
means rebuilding a bunch of things (I don't remember the details, but if you
dig into the release.d.o transition bugs and the ben-data repository you should
find the one I did for s390x a few years back)
[20 10:35:19 AM] OK
[20 10:37:11 AM] (oh, past me had already documented it in
d/README.source, good past me!)
[20 10:55:21 AM] I was considering a private ben tracker and then binNMU
through that if changed.
[20 10:56:50 AM] Which should be worth the effort if it makes packages
like octave build and permanently removes a difference from other ports.
[20 10:58:20 AM] mapreri: Was there ever a reason other than "openmpi is
not yet available for $architecture" for using mpich as a default?
[20 11:04:38 AM] bunk: there were considerations like "openmpi hasn't
been tested here much", but back in 2016-2017 when I was messing with
mpi-defaults my driving thought was to make everything the same indeed.
[20 11:04:52 AM] and openmpi wasn't available there at the time
indeed.
[20 11:21:15 AM] m68k and sh4 are building with nocheck, and mpi is not
something I'd expect to be used much on that kind of hw...
[20 11:31:34 AM] Multi-Arch: same considerations (if they matter) feel
like the strongest point against doing the transition before the release
[31 07:47:49 AM] Coming back to a topic already discussed a few days
ago: To make it consistent with all other architectures, could mapreri or
jrtc27 make a maintainer upload of mpi-defaults changing m68k and sh4 to
openmpi into DELAYED/14 ? I can then take care of the binNMUs (ben tracker
already setup). Would that be OK for everyone?
[31 08:46:23 AM] bunk: do we know that openmpi works fine on m68k and
sh4?
[31 08:59:46 AM] Do we actually know that mpich works fine on these
nocheck architectures? My goal is to resolve an architecture-specific
difference from a time when openmpi was not available there that currently
results in packages like octave and theie rdeps unbuildable there.
[31 09:02:31 AM] well, so far mpich hasn't made any problems outside
the issues you mentioned
[31 09:02:53 AM] but I just want to avoid many packages starting to
FTBFS
[31 09:03:03 AM] so we should run some basic tests first
[31 09:03:46 AM] scalapack builds both an mpich version and an openmpi
version, and both build
[31 09:04:09 AM] OK
[02 12:09:44 PM] bunk: I'm happy to do such upload if somebody opens
a bug report requesting so (in a way so I can claim that "i didn't decide on it
myself!")
[03 11:31:11 AM] mapreri: #853029
[04 11:20:55 AM] bunk: I'll past all the relevant IRC messages in the
bug log and upload then…
[04 11:21:05 AM] I am building gcc-11 on sh4 on a local qemu-user now
to see whether this fixes the problem
[04 11:21:14 AM] mapreri: thanks
[04 11:22:15 AM] paste*

So, overall, I guess I'll go ahead and JFDI.

Whilst your report is obviously very appreciated, it's quite out of
scope for ridistributor such as us. Especially when your test is
clearly not conducted on our platform.

Please send such report instead of the inkscape developers, at

Bug#991741: libtgowt: forward the utf8 "fix" ?

2021-07-31 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
Source: libtgowt
Version: 0~git20201218.6eaebec+ds-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

d/rules has this line:

|execute_after_dh_auto_install:
|# Cut non UTF-8 bytes off to silence national-encoding Lintian warning. Regex
taken from https://stackoverflow.com/a/1401716/5000805
| find $(INCLUDE_DIR) -type f -print0 | xargs -0 perl -pi -e
's/((?:[\x00-\x7F]|[\xC0-\xDF][\x80-\xBF]|[\xE0-\xEF][\x80-\xBF]{2}|[\xF0-\xF7][\x80-\xBF]{3}){1,100})|./$$1/g'

I personally find such line in the debianization somewhat of an eyesore
every time I see it.

I wonder if it would be possible to instead forward it upstream in the
form of a proper patch?

Likewise, I think it should be trivial to get the upstream build system
to stop creating empty dirs. (Somewhat unsure about the third one.)

Right.

That's because the trailing comma is added only in case of wrapping. If
you are not wrapping you won't get it.
I.e., if you use -at you get it, else you won't. It's not really
connected with "1 uploader", rather the lenght of the name of said
uploader.

Honestly, I'm a big proponent of -ast - to the point that I entertain
making it the default: https://bugs.debian.org/895570 :)

Bug#991242: lintian: fpos python3-depends-but-no-python3-helper

2021-07-18 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
Package: lintian
Version: 2.104.0

See src:libxml2, version 2.9.10+dfsg-6 onwards.

I use:

  8 Build-Depends:
  9 debhelper-compat (= 13),
 10 Build-Depends-Indep:
 11 pkg-config,
 12 Build-Depends-Arch:
 13 dh-sequence-python3 ,

But apparently lintian is not happy with it, and keeps emitting
python3-depends-but-no-python3-helper.

I see a changelog entry in lintian mentioning dh-sequence-python3
associated to this tag, so I suspect lintian should already know how to
handle it.

Dropping the build profile, makes the tag go away.

As a bonus, I suspect that lintian could also be clever, and double
check that if dh-sequence-python3 is annotated with , then
also the binary packages using ${python3:Depends} should also have a
"Build-Profiles: " in it.

Bug#991237: tracker.debian.org: please show a pseudo-excuses-experimental panel

2021-07-18 Thread Mattia Rizzolo

Hi,

since some time now, the Release Team provides
https://release.debian.org/britney/pseudo-excuses-experimental.html
https://release.debian.org/britney/pseudo-excuses-experimental.yaml
which is a ghost britney instance that is basically used to run
autopkgtest with a testing base using packages from experimental.

I'd find very useful if the result of those autopkgtest runs could be
shown on tracker, similarly to what is usually done for the testing
migration.

I wouldn't say that inkscape "expects" them.
It's just looking to see if they exist in case the user wants to use
some inkscape-specific fonts.

That said, I'll ask upstream what they think about toning down the lines
at DEBUG level, so they don't show up by default. Or at least INFO,
those warnings are overrated imho.

In this case, please have a look at reproducible_build.sh that already
does something similar. you might want to consider moving the relevant
function to _common.sh and call it wherever else you need it.
