I struck this issue doing a full-upgrade from etch to lenny.
xserver-xorg-video-via had status code c (removed - config files not
purged) in aptitude. The problem was resolved by installing it.

Works for me on 2.6.29. What kernel are you using?
It is odd there is no /dev/vcsa1, since the rest are there. That says
to me there is no terminal console 1, in which case conspy is doing what
it should do. If conspy 2, conspy 3, etc works then I would say that is
definitely the case.

Shouldn't this Provides be Replaces?
Otherwise, it sounds good to me. It certainly answers my original question
that caused me to look at policy (and as in #d-mentors) as well as answering
a few others that I didn't even know I should ask before.

Segmentation fault
The segfault arrives as soon as I run aplay:
:; aplay -vv -d 10 -D JX10 /home/stuart/ws
Usingbluez-4.66 from http://www.bluez.org/ installed into /usr/local stopped
the seg faults.
I'm using the same configuration files.
Valgrind is still showing lots of errors so there is a real bug somewhere.
