Bug#270887: xbase-clients: startx and xinit do not preserve client _nor_ server arguments

2005-12-27 Thread Pancho Horrillo
Package: xbase-clients
Version: 6.8.2.dfsg.1-11
Followup-For: Bug #270887

If you try to invoke X like this:

$ startx -- -screen Some Screen
or
$ startx -- -layout Some Layout

where Some Screen and Some Layout are IDs of some screen or layout
as defined in /etc/X11/xorg.conf,

it will fail, due to the way that startx processes arguments.

The previous poster attached a patch that could be trivially extended to
cover the code that parses server arguments in 'startx'.

Nevertheless, if the default names at /etc/X11/xorg.conf where more like
default_screen, or default_layout (no spaces), at least the server
related section of the bug would be alleviated, and, for that matter, the
incantation would be easier to type.

[eight years using debian and this is my first bug report, shame on me!]

Thanks for the hard work, guys.

Bug#492413: moc: audible pause between tracks.

2008-07-25 Thread Pancho Horrillo
Package: moc
Version: 1:2.5.0~alpha3+svn20080629-1
Severity: normal

Hi.

moc uses threads to provide seamless reproduction of tracks, and it used
to work flawlessly for me (when tracking etch). Now I can definitely
hear a cracky pause between any two consecutive tracks.

Tested on stock debian kernel and also on my custom-built one.

Box is a G4 macmini 1.2 GHz. Load is negligible.

Thanks,

pancho.

It's a feature of mp3 format. The silence at the end of file is due
to padding the last frame to the whole frame size even if there is no
sound in the source file for this gap. There is also silence at the
beginning of a file due to technical reasons. MOC doesn't do anything to
fix it, I don't know if other players do.

Ops. Thanks! (I thought I remembered moc handling it OK; I'm getting

The best solution is to use some other format.

2008-08-02 Thread Pancho Horrillo
Hi, Peter.

I just tested your patch gdc-array-concat.dpatch, and it seems that
torus-trooper still segfaults on start.

This is the procedure I followed:

# aptitude build-depends gdc-4.1
# aptitude build-depends torus-trooper
$ apt-get source gdc-4.1
$ mv gdc-array-concat.dpatch /debian/patches
$ dpkg-buildpackage -b -uc
 # wait 96 min untill it is well done
# dpkg -i gdc*deb
$ apt-get source -b torus-trooper
# dpkg -i torus-*deb

$ torus-trooper
Segmentation fault

I can provide you with ssh access to my box (G4 macmini) if you want to
test further.

Let me know if you need something.

Thanks!

Bug#433236: the Apple Cinema Display, the radeon fb, and the linux-2.6

2007-10-09 Thread Pancho Horrillo
Hi, everybody!

I can confirm this bug, too.
Macmini G4, Apple Cinema Display 23, etc.

I found a workaround: recompiled the kernel disabling the option:
CONFIG_FB_RADEON_I2C

Tested the workaround in lenny and etch (two G4 macminis here).

This is the relevant diff.

So it seems that the nasty I2C behaviour is back... At least we know
where to look at!

Hope that it helps.

Greetings,

pancho.

 Hi,

So yesterday was kernel upgrade day for testing, it seems. I allowed it
since I knew I could have a way-back whatever the odds.

Well, in fact the bug is still there with 2.6.22-2-powerpc: the Apple
cinema display is stuck in sleep mode as soon as the kernel boot starts.

As previously, the computer works fine otherwise(although my Win-TV nova
usb-2 box is not activated: it seems to be a firmware update problem, I'll
try to investigate). It is also possible to make it kind'of work by the use
of the option video=ofonly at boot time, but it is really non-optimal,
since it prevents from using console login, once X11 is started.

I suggest to reclassify this bug as linux-2.6 as a whole since it is not
specific to linux-2.6.21 anymore, and it may be a show-stopper for debian
on mac-mini users (OK, it's not like there should be more than a few
hundreds of us there, but still...).

BTW, would it be possible that the vmlinux.old is not updated when the
running kernel is the one actually linked as vmlinux.old ? I mean, if the
current running kernel is the old one, there could be a reason, and I
don't see a case when it would be useful to update the old link to a non
running kernel. This one is only whishlist, of course. Should I send it as
separate bug with a whishlist status ?

 Regards,

 mata ne

Bug#470897: dict-foldoc: dictionary is installed empty

2008-03-14 Thread Pancho Horrillo
Package: dict-foldoc
Version: 20070526-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

The dictionary is installed empty, due to a small bug in the source
package.

Just
$ chmod +x debian/condense

and the package builds again nicely.

N.B.: I don't know if debian policy allows having other executable files
beside debian/rules. If not, then it is debian/rules where the fix
should go:

perl debian/condense

instead of just

debian/condense.

Hope that it helps.

Thanks for your dedication.

pancho.

Bug#612081: mpd: lastest version (0.16) no longer able to read flac files with embedded cue sheet

2011-02-05 Thread pancho horrillo
Package: mpd
Version: 0.16.1-1
Severity: normal

mpd no longer handles flac files with embedded cue sheets.
On the previous 0.15.x versions, it worked flawlessly.

Tried and rebuilt the deb package with the --enable-cue option to
./configure, but that didn't help.

Any suggestions?

Cheers,

Bug#568993: tpp does not work correctly with UTF-8 encoded files

2010-02-09 Thread pancho horrillo
Package: tpp
Version: 1.3.1-2
Severity: wishlist

Hi!

I noticed that the examples in /usr/share/doc/tpp/examples were encoded
in latin1. Recoded them to UTF-8, and tested tpp. Some extended
characters
are not represented correctly, and you can see Ã~ sequences around.

$ recode latin1.. /copy/of/usr/share/doc/tpp/examples/ac-am.tpp; tpp ac-am.tpp

It would be nice to get tpp to render UTF-8 text correctly.

Also, tried to run tpp with ruby1.9, but still I get the extended chars
misrepresented.

Thanks.

Bug#569279: mutt segfaults while operating on an IMAP folder through ssh tunnel

2010-02-10 Thread pancho horrillo
Package: mutt
Version: 1.5.20-7
Severity: normal

Hi.

Since one of the recent mutt updates (cannot precise exactly when),
mutt tends to segfault when I am accessing my email folder on a remote
IMAP server (via ssh tunnel).

This is the output of dmesg:

mutt[1943]: segfault at ip 7f6279de5411 sp 7fff37628120 error
4 in libc-2.10.2.so[7f6279da+14a000]

It is not always, but frequently enough to be an annoyance.

Not much you can do with this little information, I guess. I open this
bug so that if someone else has the same problem, he can comment here.

Cheers,

Bug#541048: libg15render1: breaks g15daemon, which is now unable to render text on the G15 display.

2009-08-11 Thread pancho horrillo
Package: libg15render1
Version: 1.3.0~svn316-1
Severity: important

Hi!

After updating libg15render to version 1.3.0~svn316-1, g15daemon is now
unable to render text on the G15 display, although graphics appear
without problems, just as with the previous version (1.2.0.svn250-2).

g15daemon lauches a clock client. The time in text mode no longer
appears.

g15stats is a client that uses g15daemon for rendering. No text is
displayed either.

Downgrading to the old version fixes the problem.

N.B.: I use g15daemon against a set of logitech Z-10 USB speakers, not
to a G15 keyboard.

g15daemon installed version: 1.9.5.3-4
g15stats installed version: 1.9.2-1

I decided to report this bug against libg15render1 and not to g15daemon
because I think that it is customary for libraries to be backwards
compatible. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Let me know if you need assistance.

Thanks a lot for your time!

Bug#541780: g15daemon spurious restarts due to udev rules.

2009-08-16 Thread pancho horrillo
Package: g15daemon
Version: 1.9.5.3-5
Severity: important

Greetings, earthlings.

I have a problem with current g15daemon, due to udev rules.

I boot my system and g15daemon launches OK. My rc.local script launches
g15stats afterwards, and it works.

When I run mplayer, or openarena, somehow udev reacts as if the device
(Z-10 USB speakers) was reconnected, and calls

ACTION=add /etc/init.d/g15daemon udev
(as per /etc/udev/rules.d/z60_g15daemon.rules)

I see this in dmesg:
input: G15 Extra Keys as /devices/virtual/input/input8
input: G15 Extra Keys as /devices/virtual/input/input9
input: G15 Extra Keys as /devices/virtual/input/input10
input: G15 Extra Keys as /devices/virtual/input/input11
...

(Each line happens after each g15daemon restart.)

The problem is that g15stats loses connection to the actual display,
since the g15daemon is connected to is replaced by a new one.

But not only g15stats, the clock app also disappears from sight, and
that app is managed directly by g15daemon.

I've even managed to see a corrupted startup screen (G15 Daemon version
2).

Hope that it helps.

Cheers,

pancho.

Bug#605004: libvirt-bin: ignores domain element in network xml, so dnsmasq is not called with the --domain argument

2010-11-25 Thread pancho horrillo
Package: libvirt-bin
Version: 0.8.3-4
Severity: normal

Hi.

I want to be able to resolv dns names of the VMs managed by libvirt.
For that, I use a system dnsmasq, which loads this config file:
$ cat /etc/dnsmasq.d/00_libvirtd.conf
# only bind to loopback by default
interface=lo
bind-interfaces
server=/my.private.domain.example/192.168.122.1 # -- added this
$

Thus, any request for a host in the my.private.domain.example will be
forwarded to the libvirt's private dnsmasq instance.

The problem is that libvirt is silently ignoring the domain element in
the default network xml. This element is documented on
sources: libvirt-0.8.3/docs/schemas/network.rng
and also in http://libvirt.org/formatnetwork.html (look for 'domain').

Let me show you this:

Bug#548045: [fwd] [Bug 24255] [945GM] DVI monitor not detected

2009-10-10 Thread pancho horrillo
Hi.

Using an intel Mac Mini, amd64 arch.

I experience the same problem here. With the patch provided by Michal,
xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.9.0-1 works for me.

Also, pristine xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.9.0-1 works OK using linux
2.6.31.3 with kms enabled.

I was going to provide X logs (with ModeDebug enabled), but I see that
Michal already did that. I'll keep them around for a while in case you
need them.

Thanks.

Happy hacking!

Bug#533737: perl-doc-html: broken link to pack function in unpack manpage.

2009-06-19 Thread pancho horrillo
Package: perl-doc-html
Version: 5.10.0-2
Severity: minor

Hi!

There is a link to function 'pack' in
/usr/share/doc/perl-doc-html/html/functions/unpack.html

that says:

pSee a href=#packpack/a for more examples and notes./p

and hence points to the same page (i.e.: unpack.html)

but should say (as the online version at http://perldoc.perl.org)

pSee a href=../functions/pack.htmlpack/a for more examples and
notes./p

Thanks a bunch!

Bug#612081: mpd: lastest version (0.16) no longer able to read flac files with embedded cue sheet

2013-05-02 Thread pancho horrillo
Hi again.

Back then I asked about this in the musicpd-dev-team mailing list, and got this
reply, which I should've posted here but didn't.

 I filled the details here:
 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=612081

I've tried to rebuild from the sources, to no avail. I tried calling
./configure with --enable-cue, but that does not do the trick.

Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Hi Pancho,

in MPD 0.16, CUE files are not shown as virtual directories, but as
playlists, as they refer to music in other files. The load
command may be used to append its contents to the play queue.

With embedded CUE sheets, we have a different problem; the client
cannot know that a FLAC file contains a playlist, because MPD does not
tell it so, and so it cannot offer an option to load the CUE sheet for
the user. That is a server-side deficiency in MPD, and I will try to
find a solution for 0.16.2.

Max

Bug#612081: mpd: lastest version (0.16) no longer able to read flac files with embedded cue sheet

2013-05-02 Thread pancho horrillo
On Wed, May 01, 2013 at 11:31:12PM +0200, Florian Schlichting wrote:
 Hi pancho,

Hi, Florian.

support for cue sheets was removed in mpd 0.15.12-1.1 due to a symbol
conflict between libcue and libcdio10 (read the details at
 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=597731). I guess that
when you rebuilt mpd with --enable-cue, you got the crash mentioned in
 that bug report?

I don't remember any crash, just that it didn't work.

Anyway, since version 0.17, mpd has a new cue parser not relying on
libcue. Could you check out mpd in sid/unstable and see if that solves
 your issue?

I've just updated the box, and mpd 0.17.4-2 still presents the issue.

Just to be clear, the functionality I miss is the ability to read flac
files with an embedded cue sheet (say, a single flac that contains a
whole album). When I say read, I mean presenting the single file as a
list of the contained tracks. I think that this functionality was dropped
upstream, so feel free to close this bug report.

Thanks a bunch,

 Florian

Hi!

It seems that the file /var/lib/dpkg/info/ifupdown.postinst

breaks the parse tree.

This can easily fixed:

After editing, run:
