Bug#494193: iceweasel: checks for add-ons upgrades even for packaged add-ons

2008-08-07 Thread Andre Wendt
Package: iceweasel
Version: 3.0.1-1
Severity: minor

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

When launching iceweasel, I repeatedly get prompted if I wanted to
upgrade FireGPG because a new version is available.

However, I use the packaged add-on (iceweasel-firegpg) and thus
the browser will fail the installation attempt anyway.

Why does iceweasel even bother to look for upgrades it cannot
install?

Regards,
Andre

Version: 1.9.1+dfsg-2
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

I noticed that f-spot hangs on exit, see http://bugs.debian.org/444325.

However, this doesn't seem to be related to f-spot but mono, as
described in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mono/+bug/224291/

To quote from Ubuntu bug:
And here is f-spot being run under the mono debugger. Once it hung on
exit I ^C'ed the debugger and got a backtrace. Hope this helps. Looks
like the damn thing is in the final stages of exit cleaning up the
pthreads it created for itself (which is consistent with the gdb trace
above). Now, the question is *why*...

Andre

Bug#450567: debbugs: Please obfuscate e-mail addresses in web interface

2007-11-07 Thread Andre Wendt
Package: debbugs
Severity: wishlist

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

I've started using Debian, its BTS and mailing lists about 2.5 years
ago. Since that time, my inbox is flooded with SPAM. I suspect this is
partly due to the fact that debbugs' web interface shows the plain
e-mail address.

I find this to be a major issue but filed it as wishlist nonetheless.
Please consider obfuscating e-mail address in the web interface.

One way to do this gracefully is described in
http://www.alistapart.com/articles/gracefulemailobfuscation.

Bug#448581: fglrx-kernel-src: Kernel module freezes X server completely

2007-10-30 Thread Andre Wendt
Package: fglrx-kernel-src
Version: 8.40.4-2
Severity: important

I'm running a T41p with a FireGL T2 Mobility.

When loading the module, I can login using gdm but my GNOME session
doesn't get the time to load successfully. A few icons in the panel
appear, then the machine becomes completely unresponsive, up to a point
where I can't even kill the X server with [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[BS].

After three failed attempts, I moved fglrx.ko out of the way, restarted
and it worked again.

The module worked flawlessly with 8.38.6-2.

Bug#444381: synaptic: Should provide a choice if package upgrade is stalled by another package

2007-09-28 Thread Andre Wendt
Package: synaptic
Version: 0.60+b1
Severity: wishlist

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

libgtksourceview2.0-cil is currently upgradeable on my system:

$ apt-cache policy libgtksourceview2.0-cil
libgtksourceview2.0-cil:
  Installiert:0.10-3.1
  Mögliche Pakete:0.11-1
  Versions-Tabelle:
 0.11-1 0
500 ftp://ftp.de.debian.org testing/main Packages
 *** 0.10-3.1 0
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

However, monodevelop is in the way because it depends on version 0.11.
If I do a full-upgrade using aptitude, its default behavior is to keep
libgtksourceview2.0-cil at its current version.

Synaptic, on the other hand, wants to remove monodevelop right away and
does not leave me a choice. I have to manually hold the version I have
installed so that monodevelop does not get removed.

Expected behavior: Provide a choice to accept the changes or look for
another solution to the dependency problem as aptitude does.

Andre

Whenever I want to exit f-spot, I get GNOME's dreaded F-Spot does

$ du -sh .

$ find . -name '*.jpg' -exec ls -s {} \; | sort -n | tail -n 5

That's roughly 1000 pictures with 2.6G altogether, the largest
of which are 7.5M in size. Any hints as to why I can't exit the program
properly anymore are welcome!

I can't upgrade pidgin from version 2.0.1-1 to 2.2.0-1, it would get
removed in the process:

$ LANG=C apt-cache policy pidgin pidgin-data

If I specify both packages to upgrade, the same happens:

I have encountered the problem initially when trying to full-upgrade the
system. There is only one pinning policy (for mplayer), nothing else in
/etc/apt/preferences.

Any hints are appreciated!

Bug#397909: soundconverter: Does not convert m4a (AAC) files

2006-11-10 Thread Andre Wendt
Package: soundconverter
Version: 0.9.2-1
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

Hi,

I just gave soundconverter a try and found out it cannot convert m4a
(AAC) files into mp3. The files are unencrypted, so that shouldn't be a
problem: I have xmms playing those files, and according to the package
description of soundconverter, it reads sound files in any format
supported by GStreamer.

The application shows the progress bar and creates an empty target file.
But that's it. Nothing is being converted. I've tried several files
(different names, with and without spaces). Converting mp3 into ogg
works fine.

Either I am missing some package, or there is no support for AAC files.
If the latter is true, please adapt the package description accordingly.

Thanks for any hints,
André

I tried to use usplash, but all it does is give me weird chdir(): File

I have seen this behavior both with and without the

Where is the bootsplash promised by this package?

Since I have purged planet, the file /etc/cron.d/planet should must be

This behavior is due to the fact that /etc/cron.d/planet is not included

Bug#387839: gnome-screensaver: Does not use the same encoding as users-admin for display of user name

2006-09-16 Thread Andre Wendt
Package: gnome-screensaver
Version: 2.14.3-1
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi,

now that I got gnome-screensaver working, I noticed that my name in the
unlock screen is misspelled due to a wrong encoding in /etc/passwd.

I have ISO-8859-15 as my charmap, not UTF-8. I set my real name as
André Wendt with an accent over the ``e'' in users-admin. The name
seems to be UTF-8-encoded in /etc/passwd. If I re-convert the file to
ISO-8859-15, users-admin refuses to start.

Thus, gnome-screensaver should use the same encoding/decoding mechanism
as users-admin when reading /etc/passwd.

Bug#387549: dbus: Session bus does not accept connections or fails to start properly

2006-09-14 Thread Andre Wendt
Package: dbus
Version: 0.62-4
Severity: important

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

I can neither use gnome-screensaver nor screem (nor yet another package
whose name I forgot now) because of the message:

couldn't connect to session bus: Unable to determine the address of
the message bus (try 'man dbus-launch' and 'man dbus-daemon' for help)

$DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS and $DBUS_SESSION_BUS_PID are both set,
however, $DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS is 'unix:abstract=/tmp/dbus-SsLs0a*'
while no file /tmp/dbus* exists. Trying to invoke dbus manually using

  $ dbus-daemon --session --fork

has the same result.

This bug renders at least three packages on my machine almost completely
useless. Please do something about this issue.

If you need any more information on this, I'd be more than glad to share
them.

Kind regards,
André

Bug#387144: tomboy: Implement tags to organize notes

2006-09-12 Thread Andre Wendt
Package: tomboy
Version: 0.3.3-3
Severity: wishlist

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi there,

I have been using Tomboy for a couple of days now and I love it! It's
the best application I've installed in months. A better way to organize
notes would be to tag them, as we all know them from several Web 2.0
applications.

I know I could just create meta notes to act like tags, but I'd have to
update them manually whenever I tag a new note. It would be great to be
able to (un)tag them using buttons in the menu or status bar.

Thanks,
André

Bug#387217: alexandria: Please do something about the German locale

2006-09-12 Thread Andre Wendt
Package: alexandria
Version: 0.6.1-1
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi,

I noticed that an awful lot of menu entries appear to be empty here on
my machine. I don't know if it's the locale files of the package, my
locale or character set or what.

Missing from the menus are
* Add book and the entry below that under Library
* everything except Move, Search and Preferences under Edit
* first four entries in the context menu (empty area)
* entries 4, 5, and delete in the context menu of a book

I suspect there is a problem with the character encoding and the German
umlauts: Add book appears in the tool bar, but does so with a
question mark where an umlaut is supposed to be. However, I'm not sure
about that.

Regards,
André

Bug#366847: qemu: Option -redir does not work

2006-05-11 Thread Andre Wendt
Package: qemu
Version: 0.8.0-3
Severity: important

If qemu in launched with the -redir option specified, no network
traffic is redirected from the host to the guest, although the
documentation claims that.

I'm using qemu without any -net option specified, -net user
is thus the default. Specifying the option -redir tcp:8080::80 or
-redir tcp::22 for HTTP/SSH forwarding does nothing. A simple
check via

$ telnet localhost 8080

does establish a connection to the guest. But the connection times out,
leaving me with the only chance to killall telnet. Same with the SSH
forwarding mentioned above. Same difference when I specify -redir
tcp:8080:10.0.2.15:80.

If the redirection is not to be used as I intended, please clarify in
the documentation.

Regards,
Andre

Bug#361844: firefox: Does not honor application helper settings for PDF files anymore

Subject: firefox: Does not honor saved application helper settings for PDF
Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Package: firefox
Version: 1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.1-4
Severity: important

After upgrading to firefox 1.5, my application helper setting for PDF files does
not work anymore. I have the mozilla-acroread plugin installed, and set the
behavior for PDF files to use that plugin a while ago, but I am asked
nonetheless
what to do every time that I want to open a PDF file.

Hence, I re-installed mozilla-acroread with no luck, and ended up purging it.
Still no luck. I removed the setting which prompts me to select a behavior for
PDF files. When doing so, the entry re-appears in the preferences -- but is
ignored no matter what I do.

Bug#347195: openoffice.org-gnome: Save document confirmation moves window focus

2006-01-09 Thread Andre Wendt
Package: openoffice.org-gnome
Version: 2.0.0-5
Severity: normal

When quitting OOo without saving your document, OOo asks you what to do.
The window focus, however, is neither on the OOo main window nor on the
confirmation where it should be.

Reproducible: always -- create a new document, type something, quit OOo,
wait for the confirmation message to appear. You cannot use the keyboard
to confirm your action without placing the focus back on the message box
using Alt-Tab.

This problem does not appear without openoffice.org-gnome installed.

Bug#337335: nautilus: Dialog displayed when opening a broken link should cancel by default

2005-11-03 Thread Andre Wendt
Package: nautilus
Version: 2.10.1-5
Severity: wishlist

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

When opening a broken symlink, nautilus asks what to do and wants to
delete the link by default. This is especially annoying when working in
a network environment without mounting the proper shared directories. I
often simply forget to mount the shares and delete links by accident.

Please change the default dialog choice to cancel. No system should
delete anything by default.

Regards,
Andre

Bug#319998: /etc/init.d/apache does not use $SSD for every option

2005-07-26 Thread Andre Wendt
Package: apache
Version: 1.3.33-6
Severity: important

When invoked from a cronjob, /etc/init.d/apache fails with
start-stop-daemon: command not found. This is because the reload
option does not invoke $SSD but start-stop-daemon without full path. I
suspect /sbin (where start-stop-daemon is located) is not included in
$PATH for cron.

Bug#320037: gedit: Save dialog should honor system locale setting

2005-07-26 Thread Andre Wendt
Package: gedit
Version: 2.8.3-4sarge1
Severity: wishlist

My system runs with an ISO-8859-15 charset, but when choosing to save a
new file, gedit chooses to save it as UTF-8 by default. If I do not
change the charset, the file becomes uneditable in a terminal until
stored as ISO-8859-15.

This is merely a wishlist item as the package works great as is, but it
would be a major improvement in terms of usability.
