Bug#782690: xserver-xorg-video-intel: DRI2 is not available on the Dell XPS 13 9343

2015-04-16 Thread Andrea Colangelo
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.21.15-2+b2
Severity: important

Only software rendering is available on the Dell XPS 13 9343, and
possibly other recent Broadwell-based laptops. This makes the system
extremely jerky and quite unusable.

I tried to compile and run Linux 4, nothing changed. Nevertheless,
adding the xorg-edgers PPA[1] to sources.list and dist-upgrading fixed
this issue and allowed me to get a DRI2 capable GPU.
[1] https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa

Actually, I'm not that sure xserver-xorg-video-intel is the actual
responsible for this bug, as several pieces have been update (X, MESA,
etc.) by the PPA. I'll try to nail it down soon.
The following information are taken from a freshly installed and
updated Debian Jessie install.

Bug#782690: Installing xserver-xorg-video-intel from experimental fixes this issue

2015-04-16 Thread Andrea Colangelo
I could nail down the issue a little. Installing
xserver-xorg-video-intel from experimental (with no need to upgrade
other components of the stack) is enough to fix it and get DRI2
support and full hardware rendering.

Bug#775456: ITP: sankore -- interactive whiteboard interface

2015-01-20 Thread Andrea Colangelo
On Fri, Jan 16, 2015 at 12:22 AM, Mike Gabriel
mike.gabr...@das-netzwerkteam.de wrote:
Then there was this openboard fork which became very promising... and
vanished soon again, because the employee working on openboard changed his
employer (and his working focus with that). Andrea Colangelo (warp10@d.o)
did that part of the communication with the openboard upstream dev, but I am
not sure if that went to mailing list or if it was just between several
interested people in Cc:. Maybe Andrea can give a brief summary on the
 status.

The whole communication has been off-list among me and Claudio
Valerio, the guy behind the OpenBoard effort. It looked a really
promising project, then Claudio's company and the French government
had some disagreement and the work stopped. Even worse, Claudio can't
work anymore on that project, although the code is still available on
github. [1]

[1] https://github.com/OpenEducationFoundation/OpenBoard

Just in case something really bad happens, I forked the repo on my github too.

A big problem with Sankore is that those non-free fonts are used in
many parts of the interface, so some work to swap fonts and use free
ones is required. That is something that Claudio may (or may not) have
done in openboard, I haven't checked yet. The biggest problem,
nevertheless, is that upstream is totally unresponsive and not
interested in fixing the legal things, which is a showstopper as of
now. Patching sankore to use free fonts shouldn't be difficult, but
it's a quite big program and some effort might be required (also, I'm
not expert at all in C++, so digging the code to find the relevant
bits is not my cup of tea).

All that said, I strongly support any effort to bring sankore into
archives, that's a great piece of software and we really want it. In
my humble opinion, the best course of action is to check that the
latest version still has those issues (Mike did a great work reporting
detailed info on the other ITP [2]), and in case it still has, we
should try to get in touch with upstream again. Some time has passed,
so something might have changed. If, as I expect, upstream is still
not responsive, we might take the road of patching. Provided enough
eyeballs and fingers can work on it, that should be doable. The
packaging Mike and Miriam might not be perfect, but it's a great
start, surely enough to get at least a working .deb, so once we are
done with all the legal crap, the thing should be easy.

Thanks you for reporting this bug. It sounds like a reasonable

Wouldn't it more be in keeping with tradition for qmenu.cfg to be a

quite nice if a qmenurc could be accessed in a ~/qmenu/, which could
have .mnu files in it too.

Although I partially disagree about having ~/qmenu with both .mnu
files and the .qmenu.cfg, I agree that the qmenu configuration files
should be handled as a classic dotfile.

I forwarded the bug upstream to better discuss this proposal.

they'll use it at all. ;-)

I haven't set up anything in the repository yet. Feel free to start it.
We will certainly need a directory for each package; should we separate
them subdirectories by type (interface, slicer, firmware, other)?

It's probably a good idea to start a mailinglist there and continue this
 discussion on it.

Indeed. +1 for opening a ML: we are definitely OT here now!

I'd be glad to get some help maintaining tuxtype and tuxmath.

To package tuxmath 2.0.x, t4kcommon needs to be packaged first. I've started
working on this, but then stopped as I was distracted by other things and
 also
didnt feel like it was ready for wheezy.

So if you want to help, the first thing should be to get t4kcommon in a
 usable
 state, have a look at
 http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=tux4kids/t4kcommon.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/debian

I have seen some work has been done recently about t4k. What's the situation
now? Looks like t4kcommon is ready to be uploaded. Any more work needed?

Great!

I have pushed all the work I did with the packaging on a git repo on
collab-maint[1]. It contains all the changes I did months ago with the package
pushed in mentors.d.o, plus some updates. You can download and build it easily
with git-buildpackage or your preferred tools.

If you are fine with my changes, I'll find a sponsor to upload it into archive.

Bug#223988: ~/.fortunes

Thank you for reporting this bug.

I agree with you that adding custom fortunes in a simple way would be a nice
addition to fortune-mod. OTOH, this should be done by upstream developers, who
seems vanished, unfortunately. Further, the whole way fortne-mod accesses the
db and extracts fortunes should be deeply straightened up.

After adopting this package, I wish to work on this as a fortune-mod upstream
too. While I'm tagging this bug as wontfix now, I'll add your feature request
to the ToDo list.

Thank you for your reporting this bug.

Actually, I'm not sure this feature would be that useful. Anyway, I suppose
this is the kind of feature that should be added by upstream. Unfortunately,
upstream developers abandoned the development of fortune-mod, and I'm not sure
I wish to add this feature to fortune-mod (speaking with my hat as adopting

Therefore, I'm tagging this bug as wontfix. Feel free to add a comment or to

Bug#285561: Many Robert G. Ingersoll fortunes should not be marked offensive

2013-06-28 Thread Andrea Colangelo
tags 285561 wontfix
thanks

Thank you for reporting this bug.

I agree with your POV here, I don't think (most of) Ingersoll quotes are
offensive. Anyway, I am reluctant to move them out of off. This work should
be done by upstream, rather than by the debian maintainer (I am adopting
fortune-mod, BTW). OTOH, upstream seems vanished here, and not responding to my
mails. I plan to start working on fortune-mod as upstream too, deeply
reviewing all of the fortune database (which has several duplicated and other
inconsistencies) and fixing lots of bugs. When this effort starts, I'll take a
decision about this issue too.

Comments and suggestions by whoever are welcome.

Bug#353980: fortune-mod: Fortune invocation by relative path broken in two different ways.

2013-06-27 Thread Andrea Colangelo
tags 353980 moreinfo unreproducible

I wasn't able to reproduce this bug:

warp10@starfleet:~$ fortune test.sigfile
This is a fortune.
warp10@starfleet:~$ fortune ./test.sigfile
./test.sigfile: No such file or directory
./test.sigfile: No such file or directory
This is a fortune.
warp10@starfleet:~$ fortune ~/test.sigfile
This is a fortune.

Launching fortune with ./test.sigfile actually behaves weird, this might be
related with the leading . issue shown in #308602.

Mind check if you are still affected by this bug?

The point raised by Pascal is quite good and still valid: re-econding may alter
the length of line. As the adopter of this package, I'm leaning to close this
bug. I'll mark it as wontfix and leave it open for a while, just in case
somebody wants to comment or suggest another solution.

Thank you for your bug report.

Attribution of this quote seemes quite disupted. Several sources claim Mark
Twain's fatherood, others lean towards a different author. Further, looks like
Twain did present lectures on the topic of spelling reform (see:
http://everything2.com/title/A+Plan+for+the+Improvement+of+English+Spelling).

Waiting for a document stating with no doubts who wrote this quote, I adopted
a conservative approach:

Bug#157185: fortune-mod: -a and -o should be localized too

Thank you for reporting this bug.

I don't think I agree with you wrt to localization of -a and -o. -a allows to
choos from all lists of fortunes, so I don't see the point of using localized
fortunes only. -o has an override that maked the option to be ignores if a
fortune directory is specified.

I am tagging this bug as wontfix and leaving it open for a while, just in case
someone you (or someone else) want to add a comment.

True. fortune cs works great, fortune doesn't return anything, despite a

Heh, nice one. :)

Unfortunately the link is broken. I am willing to add this fortune to the
politics file, but would be happier if we can quote the author. I googled a
little, with no luck. Do you have some more details?

Bug#314391: Request for additional formatting standard in Notes

2013-06-27 Thread Andrea Colangelo
tags 314391 wontfix

Thank you for reporting this bug.

This is the kind of request that should be forwarded to and handled by the
upstream developer.

Unfortunately, upstream seems unreachable and fortune-mod development is
blocked. As the (adopting) maintainer of fortune-mod I'm not willing of
adding a formatting standard right now. Therefore, I'm tagging this bug as
wontfix. I'll leave the bug open for a while, just in case the reporter (or
someone else) wants to reply.

Ah, I see the point now, and can confirm the issue. This seem exactely what
upstream developers wanted, I suppose, but I agree that it's kinda weird that
one can extract fortunes in each language except the english.

I'll think about how to fix the issue. fortune-mod code does a lot of weird
things wrt to fortune extraction and locales management, probably I'll rewrite
much of it in a sane way.

Hi Adrian, and thanks for your reply.

I agree with you, is_fortfile() (and several other pieces of code too :() are
quite messy. OTOH, the way fortune-mod behaves seems exactely what its upstream
planned (comments in the code confirm this), so I choose the way you suggested,
patching the manpage. The patch will be uploaded soon.

Thanks,
Andrea.

Oh, that hurts! :(

I'm really sorry of this thing and will get in touch with GeoGebra

Hope they will understand DFSG's reasons. Please, keep me up-to-date with this

Thank you for reporting this bug.

I am a little confused by the behaviour you describe. By default, fortune-mod
installs fortune-min, which only contains english fortunes. Installing a
database of fortunes matching your locale doesn't imply fortune will only pick
those.

Anyway, I tried to set ru_UA.utf8 as a locale and to install your same
fortunes packages, but couldn't reproduce the bug.

Since several years and releases passed since this bug was reported, mind
checking if you still have this issue in the latest version?

Bug#690214: cellwriter: New upstream release (1.3.5) available

Hi Michael!

On Thu, Nov 15, 2012 at 6:44 AM, Michael Levin risu...@gmail.com wrote:
Sorry it has taken me some time to respond, I've been sick with a nasty cold
 for the past two weeks.

Not a problem at all, and I'm glad you feel better now!

I've released a new tarball which should be missing
the .svn directories. I've also run the debuild command and uploaded the
resulting deb file. I'm running Ubuntu so it fails the Lintian check because
it targets unstable-- it's an invalid distribution in Ubuntu.

Indeed, unstable is debian only. Try launching lintian with option
--profile debian to enable a sort of Debian compatibility mode
that avoid such false positives.

You can find the new files on the Google Code page:
 http://code.google.com/p/cellwriter/downloads/list

And you can find an updated package on mentors [1]. As you can see, I
did some housekeeping, updating to dh9, source format 3.0 (quilt) and
DEP5. I also added a watch file (which is still nice to have there,
even if yourself are upstream) and fixed a pending bug. Most notably,
I added myself in the Uploaders: field, I hope you are fine with this
co-maintainership.

Please, take your time reviewing my work, and if/when you are fine
with it, drop me a mail, and I will ask one of my sponsors to push it
into archive.

Thanks you so much for your help!

It's a pleasure!

Best regards,
Andrea.

Bug#685912: curtain: New upstream version (0.2)

I know about this. The problem is that the upstream author made a lots
of changes in the source tarball, and I didn't have time to work on

I'll let you know. Sorry for the delay.

Any news about this? I can provide an upload (and a sponsor) if you
don't have enough time to take care of this update.

Thank you,
Andrea.
