Bug#545205: update failure sysvinit/2.87dsf-3 and -4
Hallo, I am still left with an update failure: the debconf window shows the following messages: Tests have determined that problems in the boot system exist which prevent migration to dependency based boot sequencing. It is recommended to migrate for the following reasons: * the order of boot and shutdown is calculated dynamically, using dependency information declared within each init.d script, which ensures optimum and correct boot sequence for the set of installed packages * protection against problems introduced by new or upgraded packages by preserving the boot sequence when problems are detected; the boot sequence is only modified if it is safe to do so If the reported problem is a local modification it needs to be fixed manually. If it's a bug in the package it should be reported to the BTS and fixed in the package. See http://wiki.debian.org/LSBInitScripts/DependencyBasedBoot for more information about how to fix the problems preventing migration. To reattempt the migration process after the problems have been fixed, run 'dpkg-reconfigure sysv-rc'. The following problems were detected: package jackd left obsolete init.d script behind, package timidity left obsolete init.d script behind, insserv: warning: script 'S99webmin' missing LSB tags and overrides, insserv: warning: script 'webmin' missing LSB tags and overrides, insserv: script xfs: service xfs already provided!, and synaptic stops the update procedure with failure. dpkg --configure -a shows Richte sysv-rc ein (2.87dsf-3) ... info: Checking if it is safe to convert to dependency based boot. error: Unable to migrate to dependency based boot sequencing. dpkg: Fehler beim Bearbeiten von sysv-rc (--configure): (translated: An error has been encountered while updating sysv-rc) Unterprozess installiertes post-installation-Skript gab den Fehlerwert 128 zurück (subprocess installed post-install script returns Error 128) Fehler traten auf beim Bearbeiten von: (Error while updating:) sysv-rc The same is true with 2.87dsf-4. I wonder (since I not at all intimate to the internals of debian) why dependency based boot is necessary. Given that the system has been stable for quite some time (even with the SID distribution) this update failure blocks any further updates thus making package updating stopping. Is this intential? -- Bernhard Kleine bernhard.kle...@gmx.net signature.asc Description: Dies ist ein digital signierter Nachrichtenteil

The same is true with 2.87dsf-4. Very strange. The error I was aware of was fixed in version 2.87dsf-4. This must be something new. With lang=de...@euro, emacs22 misdetects the encoding of tkz-doc.cls as windows-1252, that does not happen with LANG=de_DE.UTF-8. Sven How can I encapsule this change for the update of emacs22-gtk solely. BTW I have also updated emacs-snapshot-gtk today, and that update worked flawlessly! Therefore, it seems to me that something with the emacs22-gtk is not correct, not with my package system or environnement. Please do not send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] unless you wish to report a problem with the Bug-tracking system. I want to reopen the bug: The problem is related to changes in screen resolution. When starting gnome the resolution is set to 1152x864 pixel. Then I change it to 1280x1024 using the system-settingsscreen resolution applet (I hope the German-English translation is correct). At the start the two panels are there, the bottom one visible and the right one with a small line and to appear fully when moving the mouse to the right screen border. However, after applying the new screen resolution the small line of right panel is no visible any further. When I move the mouse to the bottom panel, at the moment I touch the panel the desktop appears and the small line of the right panel. As long as I am with the mouse over the bottom panel, the small line right panel is visible. Moving via the bottom panel to the right one I can even activate items from that panel. However, when leaving the right panel, the bottom panel is gone and now only the small line of the right panel is visible. The system has been described when I opened the bug. Bug#502378: Not reproducible
Sorry for the noice! After reboot, the error is no longer be present. I guess that during update of a couple of compiler stuff and (without noticing) gnome stuff, too, something went wrong. Should be closed. -- Bernhard Kleine [EMAIL PROTECTED] signature.asc Description: Dies ist ein digital signierter Nachrichtenteil
Bug#502378: gnome-panel: second panel's autohide depends on first panel
Package: gnome-panel Version: 2.20.3-5 Severity: important I have two panels: One at the bottom of the screen, always present, the other on the right side with autohide. This normally works fine. However, today I noticed that the trigger for showing the second panel was moving the mouse over the edge of the first one which results in screen flicker. The few pixel of panel 2 were not present, too. While moving the mouse over panel1, the panel two became apparent and I could uncheck autohide. However, now panel1 disappeared which was not on autohide. Strange and not ready a new release. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-1-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages gnome-panel depends on: ii gnome-about2.22.3-2 The GNOME about box ii gnome-control-center 1:2.22.2.1-2 utilities to configure the GNOME d ii gnome-desktop-data 2.22.3-2 Common files for GNOME 2 desktop a ii gnome-menus2.22.2-4 an implementation of the freedeskt ii gnome-panel-data 2.20.3-5 common files for the GNOME Panel ii libatk1.0-01.22.0-1 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libbonobo2-0 2.22.0-1 Bonobo CORBA interfaces library ii libbonoboui2-0 2.22.0-1 The Bonobo UI library ii libc6 2.7-15GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo2 1.6.4-6.1 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.76-1simple interprocess messaging syst ii libecal1.2-7 2.22.3-1 Client library for evolution calen ii libedataserver1.2-92.22.3-1 Utility library for evolution data ii libedataserverui1.2-8 2.22.3-1 GUI utility library for evolution ii libgconf2-42.22.0-1 GNOME configuration database syste ii libglade2-01:2.6.2-1 library to load .glade files at ru ii libglib2.0-0 2.16.6-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libgnome-desktop-2 2.22.3-2 Utility library for loading .deskt ii libgnome-menu2 2.22.2-4 an implementation of the freedeskt ii libgnome2-02.20.1.1-1The GNOME 2 library - runtime file ii libgnomeui-0 2.20.1.1-2The GNOME 2 libraries (User Interf ii libgnomevfs2-0 1:2.22.0-5GNOME Virtual File System (runtime ii libgtk2.0-02.12.11-3 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii liborbit2 1:2.14.13-0.1 libraries for ORBit2 - a CORBA ORB ii libpanel-applet2-0 2.20.3-5 library for GNOME Panel applets ii libpango1.0-0 1.20.5-2 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libwnck22 2.22.3-1 Window Navigator Construction Kit ii libx11-6 2:1.1.5-2 X11 client-side library ii libxau61:1.0.3-3 X11 authorisation library ii menu-xdg 0.3 freedesktop.org menu compliant win Versions of packages gnome-panel recommends: ii alacarte 0.11.5-1 easy GNOME menu editing tool ii evolution-data-server 2.22.3-1 evolution database backend server ii gnome-applets 2.22.3-3 Various applets for GNOME 2 panel ii gnome-icon-theme 2.22.0-1 GNOME Desktop icon theme ii gnome-session 2.22.3-1 The GNOME 2 Session Manager Versions of packages gnome-panel suggests: pn gnome-system-tools none (no description available) ii gnome-terminal [x-termi 2.22.3-3 The GNOME 2 terminal emulator appl pn gnome2-user-guide none (no description available) ii konsole [x-terminal-emu 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-5 X terminal emulator for KDE ii nautilus2.20.0-7 file manager and graphical shell f ii xterm [x-terminal-emula 237-1X terminal emulator ii yelp2.22.1-8 Help browser for GNOME 2 -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Could you too please downgrade libgc1c2 to 6.6-1 (e.g. from snapshot.debian.net) and see if you can start inkscape again? Thanks for your help, Wolfi I have still in cache/apt/archives/ the 6.6-2 version, but apt-cache policy does not show it. Could you please provide information how to downgrade a single package. I have already used dpkg -i ... but not for downgrading. The first thing is to get the package .deb. Version 6.6-2 from your cache is fine, too Now you have the package you ca install it with dpkg -i package.deb as you did before. It will spit out a warning that you are downgrading, but that's all. On the next update you will get the newer version though, so it might be good to set the package on hold. Thanks again for your efforts, Wolfi I went flawlessly and inkscape starts again! Yes, confirmed. Bernhard PS: Eigentlich hätte ich das ja auch auf deutsch schreiben können. Naja. In the /usr/share/fonts/X11/misc there was not a single file!! I copied from /usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc the whole bunch of *.gz fonts and run update-fonts-alias -7 misc update-fonts-dir -7 misc update-fonts-scale -7 misc I got a line fixed in fonts.alias. Strane enough, the fonts 7x13-ISO8859-1 was not present at all. There was in MISC not a single 8859-1 file, but any other from -2 to -15. Installing xfonts-base healed the situtation. I wonder whether there should not be a dependency of Xorg or the more appropriate files on xfonts-base which would avoid xserver failure! -- Bernhard Kleine mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] linux-user Nr. 411598 PGP-Key PGP-Fingerprint: 0x6C1D9C2A 3161 A9E2 B661 A242 D9AF 61BF C842 4D18 6C1D 9C2A signature.asc Description: Dies ist ein digital signierter Nachrichtenteil
