Bug#545205:

2009-09-07 Thread Bernhard Kleine
Bug no longer evident, without updating jackd or webmin.

If no further comment or report, bug can be closed.

(Is a re-boot nessessary so that an sysv-rc update gets functional?)

Bug#545205: update failure sysvinit/2.87dsf-3 and -4

2009-09-06 Thread Bernhard Kleine
Hallo, I am still left with an update failure:

the debconf window shows the following messages:

Tests have determined that problems in the boot system exist which
prevent migration to dependency based boot sequencing. It is recommended
to migrate for the following reasons:

 * the order of boot and shutdown is calculated dynamically, using
dependency information declared within each init.d script, which
ensures optimum and correct boot sequence for the set of installed
   packages
 * protection against problems introduced by new or upgraded packages
by preserving the boot sequence when problems are detected; the boot
sequence is only modified if it is safe to do so

If the reported problem is a local modification it needs to be fixed
manually. If it's a bug in the package it should be reported to the BTS
and fixed in the package. See
http://wiki.debian.org/LSBInitScripts/DependencyBasedBoot for more
information about how to fix the problems preventing migration. To
reattempt the migration process after the problems have been fixed, run
'dpkg-reconfigure sysv-rc'.

The following problems were detected:
package jackd left obsolete init.d script behind,
package timidity left obsolete init.d script behind,
insserv: warning: script 'S99webmin' missing LSB tags and overrides,
insserv: warning: script 'webmin' missing LSB tags and overrides,
insserv: script xfs: service xfs already provided!,

and synaptic stops the update procedure with failure.

dpkg --configure -a

shows

Richte sysv-rc ein (2.87dsf-3) ...
info: Checking if it is safe to convert to dependency based boot.

error: Unable to migrate to dependency based boot sequencing.
dpkg: Fehler beim Bearbeiten von sysv-rc (--configure): (translated: An

Unterprozess installiertes post-installation-Skript gab den Fehlerwert
128 zurück (subprocess installed post-install script returns Error 128)
Fehler traten auf beim Bearbeiten von: (Error while updating:)
 sysv-rc

The same is true with 2.87dsf-4. I wonder (since I not at all intimate
to the internals of debian) why dependency based boot is necessary.
Given that the system has been stable for quite some time (even with the
SID distribution) this update failure blocks any further updates thus
making package updating stopping. Is this intential?

I suspect the problem is debconf related. It would also be nice to
see the output from reconfiguring after adding 'set -x' to the top of
 /var/lib/dpkg/info/sysv-rc.postinst.

I will also try to reproduce this here.

Very strange. The error I was aware of was fixed in version

Bug#539479:

2009-09-02 Thread Bernhard Kleine
I had the same error with 5.1.37 I changed the my.cnf file and
removed the line skip-bdb. After that the installation went through.

I also did
mysql_update -u root -p
which demonstrated that gallery2 files were corrupted (I will have to
see to that later), but any other table was or had already been
successfully updated.

After this /var/log/daemon.log reports the following mysqld notes:

That file does not seem to be part of any Debian package. Is it this
 one: http://www.ctan.org/get/macros/latex/contrib/tkz-doc/tkz-doc.cls ?

I have installed texlive 2008 on top of debian texlive2007.

  Select coding system (default iso-latin-1):

the auctex log ( and the program I assume) stops at this point.

Emacs is trying to write a file, but could not find a safe coding
system, so it prompts you to enter one. Due to stdout redirection, you
 cannot see that, however.

  Locale: lang=de...@euro, lc_ctype=de...@euro (charmap=ISO-8859-15)

Does it help to use a UTF-8 locale instead? With lang=de...@euro,
emacs22 misdetects the encoding of tkz-doc.cls as windows-1252, that
 does not happen with LANG=de_DE.UTF-8.

 Sven

How can I encapsule this change for the update of emacs22-gtk solely. BTW I
have also updated emacs-snapshot-gtk today, and that update worked flawlessly!
Therefore, it seems to me that something with the emacs22-gtk is not correct,
not with my package system or environnement.

Bug#508494: culprit found

2008-12-17 Thread Bernhard Kleine
Hello,

I installed the tex-live 2008 distribution which includes a proprietary
install-info. this program was installed in /usr/local/bin and called
before /usr/sbin. After I moved this file to _install-info, the
original /usr/sbin/install-info was used again which eliminated the
error.

The bug can thus be closed.

I had a similar problem 2 days ago, one usb partition as /dev/sda1, boot

Rebooting solved the problem.

Bug#502378: timing problem

2008-11-13 Thread Bernhard Kleine
I would like to add the following information:

I use the panel feature system-preferences-screen resolution to adjust
the screen. The error with the panel hiding depends on this feature. If
I wait long enough till no further screen activity happens and say keep
new resolution then both panels are active side by side. However, if I
click, while the screen is not rebuilt completely with the new size,
then the second panel is gone.

Hope this helps.

Bug#502378: Info received (Not reproducible) Now reproducible and reopened

I want to reopen the bug: The problem is related to changes in screen
resolution. When starting gnome the resolution is set to 1152x864 pixel.
Then I change it to 1280x1024 using the system-settingsscreen
resolution applet (I hope the German-English translation is correct).
At the start the two panels are there, the bottom one visible and the
right one with a small line and to appear fully when moving the mouse to
the right screen border.
However, after applying the new screen resolution the small line of
right panel is no visible any further.

When I move the mouse to the bottom panel, at the moment I touch the
panel the desktop appears and the small line of the right panel. As long
as I am with the mouse over the bottom panel, the small line right panel
is visible. Moving via the bottom panel to the right one I can even
activate items from that panel. However, when leaving the right panel,
the bottom panel is gone and now only the small line of the right panel
is visible.

The system has been described when I opened the bug.

Bug#502378: gnome-panel: second panel's autohide depends on first panel

2008-10-15 Thread bernhard kleine
Package: gnome-panel
Version: 2.20.3-5
Severity: important

I have two panels: One at the bottom of the screen, always present, the other
on the right side with autohide. This normally works fine. However, today I
noticed that the trigger for showing the second panel was moving the mouse over
the edge of the first one which results in screen flicker. The few pixel of
panel 2 were not present, too. While moving the mouse over panel1, the panel
two became apparent and I could uncheck autohide. However, now panel1
disappeared which was not on autohide. Strange and not ready a new release.

it should read:

I have tested it and apt-get finishes without error.

Could you please provide a way how to eliminate postgresql-8.3 and get
it working. Interestingly in the postgresql-7.4 script similar errors
are present which prevent purging postgresql-7.4.

So why don't you just do what it says? It seems like you have
postgresql-8.3 process running with invalid pid file. Just kill it
manually, remove invalid pidfile and try it again.

 Ondrej.

As far as I can jugde, there is no pg-8.3 running!! I included the

Bug#432215: Lack of Emacs-support in the debian package

2007-08-02 Thread Bernhard Kleine
sorry, i was to short in my previous mail. I have reinstalled the actual
package in debian unstable which misses still emacs22 support (as far as
I can judge from the dependencies in synaptic's dependency description)

is it really difficult to add to the debian package the emacs21|
emacs-snapshot|emacs22 line?? or are there other things to change.
Unfortunately I can not help here.

BTW: I have copied the /usr/share/emacs21/site-lisp entries
to /usr/share/emacs22 with success: auctex is running on emacs22.

but this will never be updated.

when updating python2.3 from 2.3.5-9.1 to 2.3.5-12 the python2.3-tk will

This also de-installs python2.3-imaging-tk, skencil and sketch.

   Thanks for your help,

I have still in cache/apt/archives/ the 6.6-2 version, but apt-cache

  downgrade a single package.

I have already used dpkg -i ... but not for downgrading.

The first thing is to get the package .deb. Version 6.6-2 from your
 cache is fine, too

Now you have the package you ca install it with dpkg -i package.deb as
you did before. It will spit out a warning that you are downgrading, but
 that's all.

On the next update you will get the newer version though, so it might be
good to set the package on hold.

 Thanks again for your efforts,

 Wolfi

I went flawlessly and inkscape starts again! Yes, confirmed.

yesterday 2006-04-16 I updated from debian unstable and got some new
Xorg files. after reboot, no fixed fonts was found by the
xserver. In the /usr/share/fonts/X11/misc there was not a single file!!

I copied from /usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc the whole bunch of *.gz fonts and
run

update-fonts-alias -7 misc
update-fonts-dir -7 misc
update-fonts-scale -7 misc

I got a line fixed in fonts.alias. Strane enough, the fonts
7x13-ISO8859-1 was not present at all. There was in MISC not a
single 8859-1 file, but any other from -2 to -15. Installing xfonts-base
healed the situtation. I wonder whether there should
not be a dependency of Xorg or the more appropriate files on xfonts-base
which would avoid xserver failure!

2006-04-01 Thread Bernhard Kleine

Subject: firefox crashes when dragging an url to the sidebar/bookmarks
Package: firefox
Version: 1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.1-4
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***
whenever I try to drag a url into the sidebar firefox crashes.

I have disabled all extensions without getting rid of the problem.

I cannot exclude that flashplayer-mozilla is responsible. The version of
this is:

 apt-cache policy flashplayer-mozilla
flashplayer-mozilla:
  Installiert:7.0.63.0-0.0
  Mögliche Pakete:7.0.63.0-0.0

apt-cache policy flashplugin-nonfree

100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 7.0.25-5 0
500 file: stable/contrib Packages
500 http://ftp.de.debian.org stable/contrib Packages

I tried to file a bug at mozilla.org (bug 332430) but they refused since
the version was prepared by debian.

 thanks

Anyway, this appears to be #348202, which I now notice itself appears
to be the 5th instance of #348470. Could you test if
FIREFOX_DSP=none firefox crashes under those conditions?

 Justin

I am sorry, could you be more specific, where should I type

FIREFOX_DSP=none

start a shell etc. or what?

OK I am sorry, I change the FIREFOX_DSP=auto to none and it works.
