Bug#662774: liblivemedia-dev: Why no shared lib?
Not that I am aware of. It's probably not provided, because upstream's build system does not support it. Excatly. Upstream uses custom Makefile. You could edit the Makefile.tail files and add support to build a shared library. Bug#592462: Solved: dump your old config files
Le Fri 20 Aug 10 à 20:37 -0400, Dave Witbrodt a écrit : Then I noticed that vlc was still remembering the old recent files playlist from stuff I had played on version 1.0.6. But if I had blown away the config files, how was it remembering? So, maybe there are other config files, right? A quick find -name '*vlc*' in $HOME found a directory called '.config/vlc'. Moving that out of the way restored video. All the video formats I have files to test have worked, so everything was actually just fine all along. Scanning for tips about this in /usr/share/doc/vlc/{changelog,NEWS,README}* revealed no direct statement that configs were incompatible between versions 1.0* and 1.1*. What baffles me is: how could they be incompatible, since they moved? Maybe vlc looks in both places now? Does it get confused if it finds old configs and tries to use them? The change actually happened between 0.9.x and 1.0.x . But config files shouldn't create problem like that. Do you happen to still have the old config file ? I'd be interrested by having it ( or a diff -u with the new config file) Can we please have something about this in the vlc man pages and/or /usr/share/doc/vlc? I have a feeling a lot of Debian vlc users are going to get burned by it. I'll add a note in the debugging tip presented when you launch reportbug. To report a new bug use 'reportbug' Also the subject field is not meant to contain the whole bug report. - Message d'origine - Normally its a critical bug when you cannot rebuild... It isn't mandatory to be able to build experimental package on unstable. So it's not a bug. Pbuilder by example is able to pick the needed build-deps from experimental. Bug#566924: vlc-nox: Please lower Depends: libavc1394-0, libraw1394-11
Le Tue 02 Feb 10 à 10:05 +0100, Reinhard Tartler a écrit : The slightly good news is that due to the modular nature of vlc if you remove libavc1394-0 and libraw1394-11 forcefully you won't break vlc (you should keep libdvbpsi however . It's needed to play MPEG2 TS files) Oh I thought that's exactly the situation where one could differentiate dependencies, and have vlc-nox only Recommends: libavc1394-0 and libraw1394-11 (because vlc can do without, and if they're just recommendend I could uninstall them without fiddling with the package management); This does only work if vlc was loading those libraries at runtime. If that is/was indeed the case, then we could do somthing similar like in the xine-lib package ages ago. If vlc is linked dynamically at those libs, then it would crash at startup as ld-linux.so would fail to bootstrap the image. xtophe, can you clarify here? VLC laods its modules at runtime so technically we could move all the depends to recomends except libvlc, libvlccore, libc6, libpthread, libdbus, libdl, libhal and libm But you'll have a pretty useless vlc. So in any case we are back to quantifying how important a module is. Then for not important module we have the choice of: - Putting it in its own package (vlc-plugin-dv, vlc-plugin-bonjour) - Grouping some modules in one package (vlc-extra-access, vlc-extra-servicediscoveries) - Relaxing some depends to recommends The third solution would bring some packaging fun . (Hmmm checking dpkg-shlibdeps' manpage there is some option to manage that) I'm also not sure if all the users would realise the Recomends are quite important. But we could try to educate them in reportbug control files. -- Xtophe -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? That's a question I ask myself everytime i add a new module. Do i put it in another vlc-plugin-foo package or do I add it in vlc-nox. My rule of thumb is that if the pulled libraries is less than 1MB on size i put it in vlc-nox. This is obviously not perfect. Some distro like Fedora by example package every single module in its own package and then prvide some meta package. Can you be more specific? When I try to remove libavutil50 from my system I have 109 packages that needs to be removed (vlc, gnome-office, xine, inkscape...), so I definitely can't remove it. Could the reporters still experiencing the bug with -V x11 or -V xv test and report if it's still broken once libavutil50 is removed and official libav* packages are used. Here you need to be more specific. As I said remove libavutil50 seems quite challenging and what do you call official libav* packages? Isn't libavutil50 official? The following steps should works: unbreak a debian system: - remove all references to debian-multimedia.org from /etc/apt/sources.list and /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*.list - apt-get install libavutil49 libavutil50- or with aptitude instead of apt-get. Bug#555915: vlc: Replace iceape-dev build dep with xulrunner-dev
Hello Mike, Le Thu 12 Nov 09 à 16:26 +0100, Mike Hommey a écrit : Package: vlc (disclaimer: this is a semi automatic message) Iceape 2.0 has been uploaded to unstable, and it is deprecating iceape-dev. For now, the iceape-dev package still exists and depends on xulrunner-dev, which may provide a smooth upgrade path, and your package may build properly this way (i.e. a binNMU would work) But the iceape-dev package is going to be removed from the archive before the squeeze release, so please switch to using xulrunner-dev anyways. I'm just back from holidays so all the followings is just ideas and not results from tests. You might remember that roughtly 1 year ago, you tested the vlc plugin in the various mozilla based browser and deducted that for it to work in all case it has to be built against iceape-dev. From your mail it seems that iceape-dev is part of the past and Mozilla fixed their apps. that's a good news. I'll try to test rebuilding the vlc plugin and testing in various browser before Xmas.
